If the OP cannot reliably estimate how long the endgame takes, it must be...

TG QUEST!

When we left off, the Command Crew was left a disembodied entity, Ravel's riddle was answered, and the Black Ops detachment was defeated despite the horrors at their command.

With two teams successfully making it to the core, can the Command Crew manage to guide the remaining four to the final battle?

This is what we re-organized the Team Roster into:
>-Team 1
Tosh, Cheryl, Farseers, Avatar, Char, SCP Squad, X-COM Squad, Prawn A, Sandmen, KI Tactical Squad C, Egon, X-COM NOVA Veteran 4, 5, 6, MI Squad A, White Mage Squad B
>-Team 2
Star-Lord, BLU, Star Fox team, Spike, Seifer, Fujin, Ryu, UNIT Squad, Shadowrunners A and B, Psions, Dystopian Squads, Metpharm Secs, Lyla
>-Team 3
Darius, Agrias, Lavian, Alicia, Sonia, Aeshma, KI Tactical Squad A, Abjurers, Techno-Wizards, White Mage Squad A, Devastator Squad A and B, X-COM NOVA Veteran 7
>-Team 5
Elaine, Redemption Squad, Marc Lecointe, Mouse, Isel, Rodger Young Crew, Yuna, Aurors, TG Soldiers, X-Com NOVA Commandos, MI Squad B, X-COM NOVA Veteran 1, 2, 3

Also, the question came up if the Salarian Field Engineer Team can be used in the Team Roster, since the Techno-Wizards are included.
>>
>>22189495
Hmmmm. Well, they are FIELD Engineers. I'll allow it.
>>
>>22189495
White Mage Squads A and B have Enhancement and Battery Artifacts; one White Mage in Squad B has an Economizer.

A last minute alteration in the Transphase Lance distribution resulted in 4 of them being transferred to KI Tactical Squad A and 2 of them being given to Alicia and Lavian.

The Infinite Ammo Rocket Launcher is equipped on Shadowrunner Team A; don't give it to the Troll this time.

Darius, Agrias, Lavian, and Alicia have Heart Containers.
Darius was given extra Potions and Fallout Stimpacks.

TG Squad has Mass Rifles in addition to their other weapons.

And the Shadowrunner Teams A & B, and the SCP Squad are equipped with Mappers.

All EBO Cortical Stacks are to have their transporter functions turned off, or have their destinations changed to that of another person in the Team; no more transporter mishaps.
>>
>>22189570
Does that mean we also get the Salarian Field Scientists?
>>
>>22189495
Move Egon from Team 1 to Team 3, and add in the Salarian Field Engineer Team.
They have the most Power Armor Refit units, and the greatest need for Federation power cells. If they come across anything that can be used as a power source, then Egon and the Field Engineers will be needed in order to make a power adapter.
>>
Rolled 4

>>22189645

That leaves Team 1 without Science Support.

Egon is an accomplished engineer. Just assigning the Salarians to Team 3 should be sufficient.

Also we forgot one more person: YAMADAAAAA.

Add him to 1d4:
>>
>>22189645

Tosh, Cheryl, Farseers, Avatar, Char, SCP Squad, X-COM Squad, Prawn A, Sandmen, KI Tactical Squad C, X-COM NOVA Veteran 4, 5, 6, MI Squad A, White Mage Squad B, Salarian Field Science Team
>-Team 2
Star-Lord, BLU, Star Fox team, Spike, Seifer, Fujin, Ryu, UNIT Squad, Shadowrunners A and B, Psions, Dystopian Squads, Metpharm Secs, Lyla
>-Team 3
Darius, Agrias, Lavian, Alicia, Sonia, Aeshma, KI Tactical Squad A, Abjurers, Techno-Wizards, White Mage Squad A, Devastator Squad A and B, X-COM NOVA Veteran 7, Egon, Salarian Field Engineer Team
>-Team 5
Elaine, Redemption Squad, Marc Lecointe, Mouse, Isel, Rodger Young Crew, Yuna, Aurors, TG Soldiers, X-Com NOVA Commandos, MI Squad B, X-COM NOVA Veteran 1, 2, 3

I've moved Egon from Team 1 to Team 3, and added the Field Science Team to Team 1.
That way there's someone in each Team that can handle technology.

Slippy and UNIT will need to handle tech in Team 2.
>>
>>22189588
No, they should be safe and sound in Elysium still.
>>

Moving Egon around doesn't leave Team 1 without Science support if the Salarian Field Science Team is assigned to Team 1.

>>
>>22189835
Then move the Salarian Field Engineer Team to Team 1.

Egon is the one who has the longest and most experience with adapting other things to Federation technology. He'd be better off in Team 3 where that experience is needed.

The Salarian Field Engineer Team is enough for Team 1 that doesn't have as much of a pressing need for Federation power cell adapters.
>>
>>22189885

We can't assign Shepard. G-Man will assign him.
>>

We were specifically told that Shephard can't be assigned.

Your hearing returns to you first, vision shortly after.

"...searched the entire island. That's the only way forward and there isn't anything notable that might summon a rescue otherwise," Ryu stated.

"Great," Star-Lord sighed. "And still nothing on comms?"

"We're trying commander, but so far it's no go!" a UNIT soldier reports. "Static, static everywhere."

Team 2 is grouped up on a large floating island, looking to be half a mile across and dotted with ruined buildings and destroyed Radam plants. A curving path of floating rock platforms leads from the edge of this island to

"Hope everyone's good at jumping," Spike quips. "Dunno what that swirly rainbow stuff is down there, but I don't want to fall into it."

"If only we had Mario with us..." one of the Dystopian soldiers murmurs.

>edge of this island to

To where?

>Troops

This is the command crew speaking. There is little time to explain, but the quick of it is that all of the command crew has been turned into disembodied voices that can see a limited degree around all of you. The plan to breach the Temple of NOD was not as successful as hoped, and now the stakes have been raised; the STOB is still intact, and anyone who has had an interest in taking it is now here fighting over it. We can't destroy it; we need to now recover it and figure out how to turn everything back to normal again.

All of you must maneuver through this area to reach a portal or gate to reach some sort of central nexus. We've already guided two other groups to their destinations, and we will do our best to provide guidance for all of you here.
>>
>>22190478
>>22190498
A few of your troops start at the sudden voices, but Star-Lord seems unruffled by it.

"Figured you'd show up at some point. You always do. OK, so we got dropped on this island, I sent Ryu and some scouts around it, it's bare of anything useful, and the only way off seems to be a chain of floating rocks ala every platformer ever."

>>22190532
"I'll get to resettin' our respawn devices right away," Engineer says with a small salute.

>>22190546
The platform chain seems to lead to another smaller island, which in turn has a chain to a final much larger island.

>>22190546
"Oh, that all? Good, I thought we were in trouble," Spike grouses.

"Reminds me of that whole time compression bullshit. OK, well, let's do this then. What's the plan?" Seifer asks.
>>
>>22190689

Plateformers want to dance.

We never play by those rules.

Psions, can you guys create bridges strong enough for everyone to traverse?

I'd rather not rely of everyone jumping.
>>
>>22190689
Shadowrunners, do you think you can reshape some of the material of the island into a bridge across the gaps?
What about the idea of calling up a Spirit of Man to aid us?
>>
Engineer do you have your respawn set up?

After you do, set up a teleporter and another next to it.

We'll put a rock on one and see how it comes out the other side.
>>
>>22190748
"We can carry a few across by trying to summon flying spirits and elementals and the like, but I'm not sure about making a bridge," a Combat Mage responds.

>>22190717
"It'll be draining, but we should be able to manage that," a Psion nods. "We'll spread out along the path and create some Walls of Ectoplasm."

>>

We have two psionic options:
Psionic Levitation
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/levitatePsionic.htm

Or
a Wall of Ectoplasm formed as a bridge:
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/psionic/powers/wallofEctoplasm.htm

The first is cheaper, but we'll need to have the Shadowrunners use hope of some kind to move us around.

The second is more certain, but it takes up more power points.
>>
>>22190858

Then we'll do that and allow our troops to cross over.

Seifer, Fujin, please prepare to cast Fly spells on those crossing in case they should fall/the bridge fail.
>>
>>22190885
Psions, if you were to all work together, do you think you could move the rock we are all currently on using Telekinetic force?
>>
>>22190910
We need to be conservative with their power points, though. Their pools don't refill until the next day.

Shadowrunners, you've got rope and a grappling hook, right?
>>
>>22190982

We've got more than 60 men with Powered Armour.

Grappling hooks aren't gonna cut it.
>>
>>22190878

Got anything more complex than a rock to test out?

As I recall, we tried to teleport an EVA-titan earlier, and it turned into a horrid tangle of flesh and machine. After a simple bottle of water teleported with no trouble.
>>
>>22190878
Before we start moving towards an island we have no idea about, Dystopian Squad, some of you use your exographic scanners and take a look at that second, smaller island. What do you see on it? Anyone hiding, waiting to ambush us?
>>

"Uh huh. Right."
We can see everything that our troops can see. What do the metal pods look like?
I'd rather kill everything there while we're safe here, rather than on one of those small platforms.
>>
>>22191125

Mind getting us a picture of those metal pods, soldier? We need to go as fast as we safely can, but there's probably going to be a lot of enemies here trying to get to the portal as well.
>>
>>22191125
Large pods made of shiny black metal, about ten feet tall, though some are twenty. It's hard to make out details at this distance even with the scope.
>>
Psions, I'd like to test something. Could you all use Telekinetic Force to try to move this rock. I want to know if this island actually "weighs" anything. Since it's floating, you might just beable to ride this rock to the exit.
>>
>>22191268
The Psions burn some power points and strain, but are unable to move the island.
>>
>>22191242

We should have spotter scopes with us, or high-mag optics. Bed down into a stable position and take the time to get a detailed look, we want insignia or identifying marks.
>>
>>22191242
I can't identify it. Have Star-Lord take a look, see if he recognizes them.

How far away is that island, anyway?

The exographic scanners have a range of at least 2 kilometers. And within that range they can look at something as if they were right next to it.

>>22191313
There are plenty of those scattered around the island, alongside larger versions. Sweeping around and activating the x-ray mode with some tweaking to account for interference, your scout is able to sight headcrabs, combat synths, Striders being pulled from pods deeper into the island, and more. A full Combine force, though none are by the area connected to your island by the chain. The enemy has a slight numerical advantage, but nothing overwhelming.

The headcrabs occupy a strip of land between the landing area and the Combine area, and the chain to the next island is behind the Combine area. It looks like they are setting up some sort of device next to it.

Non-fluff description: Trooper is able to observe target and identify weak points on target or on defensive fields surrounding target. Trooper can call attention to this spot to allies, and trooper gains a bonus to hit that area if attempting to snipe.

>Black Sheep Wall

Trooper is able to recon extraordinarily well. Can overcome most static fields or obfuscating effects, and can generally do a much better job of charting areas with or without equipment.

Sniper Hero, I'd say.

Matthäus Hetzenauer? Nazi Sniper and fits with the Dystopian world.

Dystopian Squad and MetPharm High-Sec both have micro-transporter equipped rifles.

We can also check the Shadowrunner teams for any snipers, or a drone rigger.

Have them begin setting up to fire upon the Combine forces, with extra emphasis on that machine they're setting up.
>>
>>22191494

So headcrab central is in our path... and Combine forces aren't directly in our path, but are probably close enough to attempt to snipe/other stuff?

Engineer, do you think you could modify the Infinite Ammo Rocket Launcher with a micro-transporter from one of the other guy's rifle?

>>
>>22191579

>Black Sheep Wall

Revise it to include his squad as well. A single person wouldn't be enough
>>
>>22191654

>Black Sheep Wall

Version 2:

Trooper knows how to recon extraordinarily well, and how to direct others to do the same. A squad being directed by Trooper can overcome most obfuscating effects, and can generally do a much better job of charting areas with or without proper equipment.
>>
>>22191579
I'd rather have:
"School of Hard Knocks": Combined with prior military experience, this soldier is able to put the Federation exographic scanner and micro-transporter to best use, not confined by Starfleet's less-than-militaristic ways. All actions taken using advanced weapon and sensor systems receive a considerable bonus.
>>
>>22191494

You know.

Can our Pscions create the wall across the platform stage, then have the wall loop around the underside of the island to emerge where the next chain starts?
>>
>>22191693
Assuming that each Psion puts down a wall where the previous one ends, that'll be a bridge 660 feet long.
Not sure if that's long enough, though.
>>
>>22191575

Begin marking striders and the central machine for fire, we have enough heavy ordnance and anti-material capable weapons along with a range advantage so steep we should be able to take out the enemy.

"No worries mate. Bit of a range, but a stationary target that big? Piece o' piss!"
>>
>>22191820
Okay, have BLU Engineer do it. To test to make sure it's safe, what we'll do is secure it on the ground, sight it in, make sure it's safely away from the team, and then have one of the Psions use telekinesis to pull the trigger. That way, we can test fire it without danger.

>>22191838
>>22191820
Okay, I think we should fire soon, because we don't know how close the Combine is to getting that machine operational.

Psions, get ready with Walls of Ectoplasm in case the Combine shoots back at us.

Star-Lord, we should probably get into a dug in position near the floating platforms; the Combine will likely try to rush through them to get to us when we open fire.
>>
>>22191921

We need those walls of ectoplasm to cross the platforms. We'll need to ration them carefully.

"OK, I think I got it," Engineer says, producing the weapon.

You manage to get off several rounds of fire, causing the Combine forces to scatter. What few Overwatch soldiers among the enemy are swiftly taken down, though the Synths don't seem to take much damage from the small-arms fire. A number of malfunctions are reported as the firing commences, reaching a spike at the two minute mark, when the rifle rounds begin to be transported all over the area, not where targeted. A minute later, some of the micro-transporters begin to malfunction to the point of meltdown, several firearms getting damaged.

Sniper fires the fireball round and the Combine device is melted to slag, the Stalkers working on it sent flying into the void.
>>
>>22192225

Ok, we should still have long range ordnance. Engage with NON-transported rockets. We have range, combine weapons are hilariously inaccurate, even strider-mounted guns can't seem to shoot well beyond 200m.

Question, MetaOP, how are Fujin and Seifer's spell stocks like?
>>
>>22192710
Sniper's rifle goes off and he grins. "Too slow, mate."

Matthaus' gun goes off and he waggles a finger. "Nein. Just taking care of his partner."

"Leaving the last one to me, I gettit," Sniper says, bringing up his rifle and firing again.

"Wrong again, one more, and one down," Matthaus says with another shot.

"Look you two. Impromptu contests are nice and all, but-" a Shadowrunner begins to say before a sudden explosion sends him flying into the air, six bug-like looking aircraft suddenly soaring overhead.

"GUNSHIPS!" Star-Lord shouts.

Sniper, Matthaus, concentrate on anti-sniper work.

Lyla, try to catch that unfortunate Shadowrunner with a Float and a Raise if he's dead.

Star-Lord, NeiShot on those gunships.
BLU Team, provide some cover fire.
UNIT, switch to phaser rifles, maximum setting, and clip their wings.

And someone pick up that rocket launcher and aim for those Gunships.
>>
>>22192789

One more haste on that rocket shadowrunner.

Sniper, keep on the fire on those Combine Snipers.

Matthäus, call the shots, tell our boys how to place the shots on the Gunships to bring them down.

Fuujin, Seifer, Lyla, raise our downed troops.

Medic, heal those injured by shrapnel.

Infinite rocket them. It only takes two or three hits to take them down in Half Life, and we have infinite.

Fujin summons a mighty tornado that catches one of the gunships and dashes it repeatedly on the floating rocks. Again and again the metallic shell of the biomechanical monster strikes the ground until finally it bursts open and leaks innards, the Tornado pulling it over the abyss and letting it fall into oblivion.

Seifer does not have Aura, though for some odd reason you could Draw it from him in the game. According to the wiki he has Bloodfest, Firaga, and Flare.

Spike, Star-Lord, there's a fucking Combine Adviser here! Find it and kill it!

One of the remaining Psions, set up an Intellect Fortress, 15 power points!

Soldier and Heavy, take down those gunships.

Medic, Lyla, Fujin, try to raise and heal as many as you can.

Seifer, Fira spells on those gunships! Rockets might have trouble hitting them, but fire spells won't!

I think we should have Fuujin and Lyla raise the Psions, while the others keep up the heat on the gunships.

At least 1 on Intellect Fortress, another on trying to rescue the MetPharm Squad, and you'll have to be specific with which Psionic Power you're using to guide the rockets.

I actually think that instead of guiding the rockets, they should use Mind Thrust with 6 points, straight into the neural pathways of the gunships.

"It was over before you even started it, you amoeba," the Advisor mentally hisses. As the floating brain-creature crests the edge of the island for another attack, Star-Lord and Spike run at it, Star-Lord firing the Nei-Shot while Spike shoots off a few rounds from his hand-phaser, which he switched to earlier as ordered. The Advisor erects a telekinetic barrier that absorbs the tremendous explosion generated by the Nei-Shot, then floats to the side to avoid the phaser blast. Star-Lord gives a grunt of pain as immense invisible force slams him into the ground, Spike swept off his feet and cast off the island by the same power.

As Spike screams, falling into nothing, Lyla's eyes go wide.

"SPIKE?!" she screams.
>Lose Spike Spiegel.

"AAAAAAAARGH!" the Heavy roars, pouring minigun fire into the air as the Combine Gunships circle overhead. "That kill is MINE!" Soldier says, firing rocket after rocket. A Psion swears and hastily uses telekinesis to guide one of the rockets into the Gunship as it shoots down another. The gunship utters an electronic moan as it wobbles in the air, its flight further destabilized as the Art of the Fire Wheel crashes into it. A Flare from Seifer seals the deal, causing the war-machine to spiral out of control and into the abyss below the island.

"DESTRUCTION," Fujin booms, guiding another Tornado to smash apart another gunship as the final gunship continues to pour fire into your ranks.
>Lose 4 Dystopian Soldiers.

While the Advisor was distracted by the charging heroes, the UNIT team manages to prepare, and when it next crests the edge of the island, lasers, phasers, and plasma rifles bore into its side before it can erect a defense. It spirals into the air above, squealing in pain like a pig, horrid burns marking its side.

Scout can be quiet. In "Meet the Scout" he got very close to the enemy base without being detected, then snuck up on Heavy as well. Plus we could have him use one of his drinks and be a temporarily untouchable distraction.

Your force recon gets to the island with no problem, but shortly after arriving, they encounter the remains of the headcrabs infesting the area that survived the rocket barrage. They are easily put down, but the gunfire alerts the Combine and the group is forced to hide among the rubble. They are able to tell at least a few Striders and a troop of Combat Synths survived the bombardment.

Psions...I'm not sure. Suggestions, Anons?

>>
>>22195805
Medic, get to recovering the Cortical Stacks from everyone who couldn't get raised.

Star-Lord, does the NeiShot have the range to hit the Striders?

Psions, prepare to use Mind Thrust of 4 Power Points against the Striders. Target their bio-computers.

UNIT, keep the combat synths at bay.

Dystopian Squads, BLU and Shadowrunners, move up and get into position to fire on the combat synths from this island if possible.
>>

I meant BLU can stand guard over Lyla.

Shes not going anywhere for awhile and the rest of them aren't exactly good for sneaking about.
>>
>>22195805
By a troop, what are the approximate numbers?
>>
>>22195958
Psions could summon Ectoplasmic Shamblers. It would last for 11 minutes, and deal about 5.5 HP's worth of D&D psionic damage per minute to any creature it latches on to or to any creature caught inside its midst.

Level 11 Psions can summon it from 840 feet away, and can manifest it directly on a target. It appears as a thick mist. The shambler can also receive orders from the Psion to move.

I'm not sure if it counts as a creature that can be harmed, or if it's essentially a directable fire-and-forget spell.
>>
>>22196068
Thank you for giving orders to the Psions. I swear, I need to read more D&D manuals. >_>

>>22196084
Oh, yeah, that's fine.
>>
>>22196154
>>22196148
Actually, I'm thinking this plan might be better. After all, we get a spell that lasts us 11 minutes instead of an instantaneous one.

>>captcha: eoritu monday
Why yes, captcha, thank you for reminding me.
>>
>>22196068
Change the Psions from using Mind Thrust to calling up Ectoplasmic Shamblers.
It's a better use and the Psions are safer this way.
>>
MetaOP, can we get numbers on our troops?

How many of them revived with RED-2 after Lyla wasn't able to catch them?
>>
>>22196195
>>22196192

It's worth mentioning that the spell is the Psion actually fashioning a shambler from psionic energies, not an actual summoning spell.

>You fashion an ephemeral, manylegged mass of pseudo-living ectoplasm called an ectoplasmic shambler. You can direct the shambler as a free action. It has a speed of 10 feet. It can completely surround objects (and opponents) over which it is manifested or onto which it moves, because it has the consistency of thick mist. The vision of those within the shambler is limited to 5 feet, and manifesting powers (or casting spells) within the shambler is difficult due to the constant turbulence felt by those caught in the shambler’s form.

The Ectoplasmic Shambler rolls across the battlefield, sapping the strength of the Combine it entraps while several crab-like synths fire rapid-fire bolts of energy from belly-guns uselessly at the Scout.

The UNIT squad's plasma and laser weapons manage to perform admirably against the human-Synth hybrids, killing several before they can open fire. Sniper manages to bag two of the Striders with repeated shots from his Caster Rifle.

Space and time bends as the remaining two Striders fire their warp cannons at the UNIT squad, several of the brave soldiers being utterly annihilated by the attack, and more being wounded.

The Striders don't last long when Star-Lord enters the fray with the Nei-Shot, the powerful weapon cracking open each of the war-machines with a single shot. They fall to the ground in pieces.

Heavy attempts suppressive fire on the various variants of Crab Synths, but his bullets just bounce off their armored shells. Engineer manages to construct a Dispenser for mobile healing and munitions, though. The remaining UNIT troops backed by phaser fire from the Dystopians manage to drive back and destroy the remaining Crab Synths with light losses, but a contingent of the Human Synth hybrids arrive from a crumbling street, opening fire with disintegration cannons that cut through BLU and into the Shadowrunners with startling ease.

A Fire Wheel then slams into the lot, setting them afire as a blue blur speeds into their midst, slashing through their carapace armor with an ancient sword. Disrupted by this assault, the remaining Combine are left open to a vicious counter by your remaining troops, ending with the final soldier falling with a knife stuck in between armor plates on its neck, Spy decloaking behind him.
