Well hello one and all, it's time for another company civ. Last time our intrepid company secured for themselves a contract to try and win the rights to work to repair the city's rail system, and hired themselves some new employees (including a feline lycanthrope girl lawyer).

Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/22043336/

Now, what will we do today? I'll wait for a person or two to post before I start.

>>

This

And can someone explain to me the issue with the bureaucracy?
I couldn't really follow that well in the last thread.
>>
>>22074551
You must specify how you would to improve the trains and how you want to get to work on that train system. Being specific is your friend.
>>
>>22074585
Well, we already have a working prototype, but that doesn't mean it will be better than the ones that our competitors are making. Next step would be making it faster but without making it more dangerous. Everybody loves to get to places faster.

I'm not sure about the special offer though.... I guess we send out people to check the rails, stations and trains to find what we could improve and make better and then work on it?
>>
>>22074585
We should fit the trains with our fancy new watches... Faaanceh
We need it running like clockwork yes? They need fancy clocks to do so...
>>
>>22074572
There is no longer a central power figure that keep the bureaucracy in line. Now it has gone in on itself, sung thousands of different editions of the code of laws to try and regulate the city. It's basically a power bubble that only keeps itself running because everyone thinks they are in power, they have no actual strength.
>>
>>22074709
So we need a baron or a leader, and if we get one into power that has our support, he'll no doubt assist us in the lucrative public sector jobs

Is there any individual who seems to have more power than the rest of the bureaucracy? Or does the Baron have an heir of anysort?
>>
We already have the Elemental Combustion Engine powering the trains, ja?

How about we develop a solution that reinforces metal?

Rust Monster spit run through something that will negate and reverse the properties.

We can stick that stuff on the back of a train and have it squirt it out on the tracks as it goes by. It'll clean the rails and keep them strong and in shape.

Does that sound raisinable?
>>
With concerns of how the public could view your magi tech Eric and Archibold set about making their prototype ECE engines more safe and efficient. The spell work on the micro portals is tightened so that even if the spell work were to fail for some reason the portals would merely dissolve instead of coalescing into singular larger portals for each element. Which while a small chance, was still at risk of occurring. They also convert all their current engines to this new model, and construct a few more. The tighter spell work also allows for less bleeding over, and so more efficient usage of the energy.

=============

Men are sent out to search the rails, checking all the magical crystals and other systems for any problems that could present itself for when the rail systems are converted to the new ECE trains. The only large problem they could find was at each station a train would have to stop for minutes at a time, and that the constant stop and start of the ECE engines could cause force elemental bleed over.

Also, while they are out they see one of the competitor's trains. A steam device consisting of two large boilers adhere to the back, and rain the engines that push the train along.

=========

For fear of having their good sabotaged and their named ruined Archibold decided to leave the golems out on a constant vigil, two in each store and one in Eric's garage.
>>
>>22074836
we are way, way, way too fucking small to even start thinking about this
And the current baron (who went into seclusion) is a super national hero. No one is going to try to replace him till he is officially dead. And we are not killing him because that is a man who went toe to toe against an eldrich god-tier enemy

It was about the same speed as your engine, both move a bit faster than the previous magic crystal system.

Also it means that when the trains stop the portals to the elemental planes don't just close. This means they radiate heat, while you made it so the engines themselves don't fail it causes the air around them to heat up... a lot. The train stations would be really hot due to the elemental bleed over from the engines.
>>
>>22074881
Well we can't just live in a town where every single person thinks he's in charge.

ITS EITHER US OR NOBODY,

Even Bismark retired and that old fool united Germany, Its time for the past to be the past and get a new leader, we can post some fake news about his declared retirement, powergrab occurs, we support most likely winner, we profit

Worst that could happen is the old baron returns and everything stabalizes win-win situation
>>
>>22074980
But doesn't the ECE run off of continuous explosions from the essences of the Air and Fire interacting?

The portals aren't supposed to stay completely open, what is supposed to happen per my original design is that there is a weak but adjustable antimagic field that affects both the portals just enough so that they stutter rapidly. To turn it off you just increase the antimagic field. If there is any buildup in heat it would be from the giant explosions going on in the main reaction chamber.
>>

Which is what I'm voting for

G: Leak an anonomyous tip to the largest newspaper service saying that the Baron has retired.

Questions
How long till we are due to present the working model?
Are we just working on the train where the engine is (whatever the term for that is) or the entire train (including the passenger cars)?
>>
>>22075079
fuck no
>>
>>22074999
Well, the baron when the baron went into seclusion he went into his castle known as the Silver Citadel. Silverdale itself is between two mountains, originally constructed in the craggy valley between them. The citadel sits atop one of the mountain peaks overlooking the city. The draw bridge had been up for the past forty years, and there are rumors that there are no entrances into the palace.

The only ones with a supposed way to communicate with the Baron is the monster hunting guild The Baron's Sons, which was founded by the remaining members of the Knight's Order of Silverdale (commonly referred to as the Tin Hounds) after the Baron disbanded it after the war (He did this as one of his last acts before going into seclusion, saying "he would no longer be there to lead them, and that they must forge their own path"). A speaking tube leads from the citadel to their guild hall, and occasionally a voice blares through it detailing out a particularly dangerous contract. These are highly prized by the slayers.
>>
>>22075071
That's the thing, it's difficult to just open and close the portals continuously. You can't completely close them, because to reopen them would require a magi to come and rewrite their mage's knot. It can be made smaller, but that is difficult as well. To make this more efficient to be able to make them as small as possible when not in use would require research.
>>
>>22075166
something something another portal that takes all the energy from the first portal when it is not needed, when the engine is running both portals are separated by a shutter. SCIENCE! and MAGICK! ... TOGETHER!

anyway, yeah, lets research some more

>E
Sparks for Hire: Go to the elemental plane of fire with the fancy new suit invented and try to get for yourself a contract.
>>
Eric and Archibold begin to work on how to fix the heat overflow problem. Archibold comes up with the idea of another portal to take away the excess energy. He leaves the coordinates of the portal unspecified, and so it opens a small warp into the void. Whenever the engine stopped a shutter opens to the void portal, sucking up excess heat into it. This causes them to actually cool the area around them during times of non movement. No one complains about this however, as the train stations are unpleasantly hot most of the time.

==========

To increase the power of the engines output Archibold and Eric decide there is only one option... double the number of elemental portals. After this significant power boost the engines run as a much higher speed than previous, the pistons going so far that they will increase the speed of the gains by a factor of 25%.

==========

Archibold waves to the rest of the company as he stands in front of a large portal to the elemental plane of fire. Sarric had come for him so that he could take the young inventor before the council of nine, named for the nine family heads that lead the Royal House of Ash.

Once on the other side Archibold clenches his teeth for a moment, worried that the suit might fail, but even while surrounded by enormous wreaths of fire and volcanoes dotting the horizon the inside stayed a comfortable temperature. The palace of the Royal house of Ash extended up over the rest of the plane, an iron castle. The ramparts each were made of solid pieces of iron, glowing red from the heat. Dozens of rivets, some looking like they could be a fourth of a mile across, hold the building together. Sarric turned to Archibold.
>>
"Just wanted to give ya a view of the place before he head in. I like to impress people a bit." Once inside they walk through many chambers, it reminded Archibold of the magi college, deep carpets, lots of paintings of old men (replacing the beards with facial hair made of fire however) and a general air of pompousness.

The central chamber was also made of iron, the ceiling made of arches that seemed to have been made by melting together thousands of weapons into singular masses. In nine seats surrounding a signal podium the council members sat. Sarric nudged Archibold.

"If you want to make business you gotta impress this lot... make your case."

> What do you say?
>>
>>22075651
"Good day my dear council, I am Archibold, the same archibold whom you may know of who assisted Saric in retrieving the Iron Crown. And I am here with a proposal"
>>
Random, what is the business deal you wished to do with these guys anyway?
>>
>>22075651
Impress? Shit man, I dunno. I'm bad at dialogues.

We have studied in the magi college and know these types of people and presumably know how to talk with them. Use that knowledge to advantage here.
As to making the case... well, we are pretty much the only magi-tech producing company in the city and can make things that no one else can, just look at the suit we are wearing. We can invent and make custom products. We have powerful R&D capacity both in magical and technological. Seeing how their palace seems to be made using modern engineering and technology we can safely assume they are not against technology and probably don't have any bias against magi-tech.

We don't have any products for them right now, simply because we do not know what kind of demand elementals have but we can work out a deal.

I REALLY wasn't expecting to meet the all the rulers of this place, what the hell Sarric?
>>
>>22075800
That's the thing, I just wanted to know what we could sell to these people, certainly didn't want to meet with all the rulers. Elemental plane is an alien place, we first must know what kind of things they would want, if we can supply them and then make a deal.
>>
>>22075800
Im proposing borrowing some extra muscle or some magical artifact on the previous thread. Also see if we can create something that the elemental need.
>>
>>22075765
Well I guess thats followed up with a

"We are possibly the only magi-tech company that you have access to. If you have tech/magi related issues in your kingdom I am sure that our R&D department could more than easily rectify. That being said, we would like to become the Official Magi-Tech company of the Royal house of Ash, and sponsored for any product you would like to produce."
>>
Ok guys, decide upon something to say. Also... Sarric knew you guys wanted to do business. Everything that goes in and out of the plane does so at the discretion of the royalty there. You needed to talk to them if you wanted to sell anything regardless.
>>
>>22075938
"Good day my dear council, I am Archibold, the same archibold whom you may know of who assisted Saric in retrieving the Iron Crown. >>
>>22075938
seconding what drew said. minus the sponsorship part, offer our service to create anything they request, after that we can talk about sponsoring our venture.

I need to leave for class. hopefully this thread will still be alive after 4 hours.
>>
>>22075938
Still, to do business, we must know what they want. How can we make a case without knowing what they want?

here are some ideas
>>22075765
>>22075892
But I would hold off about "the official magi-tech company of this plane", that's getting ahead of ourself there.
>>
"You're the one who helped retrieve the Iron Crown? Sarric is this true?" shouts one of the assembled, getting to his feet. Around him his form blurs, the iron keeping the fire in place straining. From around him currents of blue flame wash down the chamber to fill the mote around the podium. Despite your suit working well... it was beginning to feel a tad warm.

"Yes father." The elemental lord considers this for a moment before speaking, next to you Sarric nudges you as he gets down to kneel. You take this to mean for you to do the same.

"I thank you. If it was not for you we would have lost some rather... precious materials. We shall hear you out." Archibold begins to explain how his company is possibly the only active magi tech one in the city, and that if they have any problems of that nature they should come to him to solve them. Also he explains the goods they have, and the desire to sell them. The lords sit back, only asking for clarification a few times.

"Well... these "Air Conditions" are of little use here, as are the watches. However the suits, like the one you are wearing. The magi have also maintained the only way to survive once crossing over was via experienced magi and spell work. You have proven otherwise. I would like to..." he searches to find the right word, "commission a few of these suits."

~A business deal has been made, the Royal House of Ash wishes to purchase a set of fire suits. Making a total profit of 300 Tarllings, also business relations have been open for possible future dealings~

Okay, we made our trains faster (though we should make them even more in future), now, lets make them cheaper. The city will take in consideration which trains are cheaper to build and maintain when choosing which kind of train to adapt.

Airships are one of the main modes of travel across the continent due to the fact there are a lot of horrible eldritch creatures around. It uses a special gas mined from the ground in a city known as Mellic. It's in the mountains just like Silverdale, but to the south.

You can work on the passenger cars. You simply are not required to. Who knows, you might impress if you present new passenger cars as well.
>>
So what is your final idea?
>>
>>22076427
Alright.

Still, we'll have just enough money to pay for the taxes unless we spend it somewhere.

Anyway, the suggestions are

>>22076212
>E: Finally I think its time we meet our captain and discuss exporting goods. I'm sure the watches and AC will be well received in other cities.
He should have moved the previous batch of goods already. It has been over a month

>>22076266
>D)Research
>Okay, we made our trains faster (though we should make them even more in future), now, lets make them cheaper. The city will take in consideration which trains are cheaper to build and maintain when choosing which kind of train to adapt.

>>22076443
Oh sweet. How about we make them more comfortable? Add our AC units and put a clock in each one. Also, a tableau that will show what the next station is and when they will arrive. Anf try to increase the capacity... perhaps we will be able to make double-decker cars in future (they exist! I've ridden in them!). Oh, and make them sound isolated so that the wheels don't make noise and make remove any swaying so it basically doesn't even feel like being in a train.
Anyway, this all is a
>D)Research
action
>>
I saw that the company continues to research the passenger car. It never hurts to have another product to sell. Even if the product is not accepted, the plan could easily be sold for a good sum to another company or city.

Secondly buy the Slavery Exempt License

Third Meet your old friend the captain in an attempt to convince him to export your products. Bring Yaril along with the lawyer to hammer out a contract. Bring some alcohal too, maybe cause he trusts us now he'll take a drink.
>>
>>22076545
>>22076581
Just a thing, at no point have you been selling your goods to other cities. You have been selling it to the captain, You can try to export your goods... but you have no one to sell it to in the other cities, no one ready to receive your product, and no offices there in case something goes wrong. You need infrastructure before you export.
>>
>>22076700
Curious OP, what exactly does The Maiden's Fancy do?

Are they shipping? Are they passenger? Or something else?
>>
>>22076700
I was under the assumption that the captain sells goods to other cities and that Drew's suggestions was just another business venture action.

We haven't been improving our watches and have held off our best product (watches with AC). Do we still want to keep doing that? I'm not sure what the initial reasoning was but these watches would sell better for more and would probably increase our revenue from "Shops" job a bit. Lets start selling them too
>>
>>22076757
They are a shipping company and a defense firm. They are kinda like there merchant marines.

But the thing is you don't have any infrastructure to export. You could ask him to send your goods somewhere, but once it is there you can't do anything with it.
>>
>>22076779
No, you sold them to the captain and his crews/ships. Also, you sold to the captain the watches with AC. if you want him to buy another shipment you'll need a significantly improved watch design of some kind.
>>
>>22076779
Yes, lets develop infrastructure next turn though
>>
>>22076837
I see. That's out then. We can't expand to other cities just yet, unless the captain is willing to sell them to other cities he visits.

Also, op, a questions of mine from previous thread that didn't get answered: is there anything stopping us from branching off to other company types from the first thread? Like lawyer firm, loan sharking, etc?

Also, can we get more information on this action and how it works
>F) Go to Invest in a company.
We never used this and I assume that is because no one knows how it works.

>>22076885
It's not that easy. Will probably require a big initial investment and higher reputation.
>>
>>22076885
you need to put out new ideas for this turn, since you couldn't do the captain thing >.>

Also I am thinking this might be the last turn for the day, unless you guys are really into it. I don't know, the thread feels less appealing to me as time goes on. I like running games, but this seems kinda tedious for some reason. Maybe if I slim down the turn reports or something?
>>
>>22076929
No there isn't anything stopping you. Through business ventures you can search for companies to buy out, or hire enough employees and use a business venture to section them off to do a new thing.
>>
>>22076952
Yeah last turn, I'm not getting into it either that much, prolly cuz its only two of us

And I really need to study

Last action would be hire more workers 13
Might as well
>>
>>22076983
The actual buying out of campaniles and creating of new ones as subsidiaries of yours is an F action.
>>
>>22076952
I'm really into this.
I guess you can try slimming down the reports.

Please don't abandon this!
>>
>>22077008
I won't abandon this, I'm the captain. The captain goes down with the ship!

But if Drew is done then I gotta end it if it's only one person.
>>
>>22076995
Lets not hire more people, we have to pay them remember and if we hire more, we will have barely profit.

Anyway, here's a suggestion
>D
Research magitech toys. We've been talking about this since thread one, it is time to finally make this true and start selling them in our shops!
>>
>>22076995
>>22077031

Come on, Drew, stay a while!
>>
>>22076929

We don't need that much investment, we just need to get a merchant in the other city to sell our goods... Then we can have the captain ship them over their and the merchant sells it.

No taxes... Price of the goods goes up, but we have products in other cities, and our rep goes up
>>
>>22077050
Fine for like three more turns
>>
>>22077044
k seconded
>>
>>22077062
So we having four researches?

More comfortable passenger cars?

Better engine cost?

and magical toys?
>>
>>22077062
wont we need an office in the other city though? Even if it is just renting a room/shop somewhere.

>>22077105
seems that way
>>
>>22077105
yes

One day in the workshop Mousy was left alone to her own devices. Most of everyone else was either out working on the trains, getting mixed up in elementals planes of fire, or saving the city from ultimate destruction. As such she needed to entertain herself.

To this end she got some of the spare clay and tin scraps from around the workshop and made herself some tiny calls, etching golemacy runes onto their sides. The new creations got up, walking around with unsure jerky steps. Behind her Grac came in.

"HELLO MOUSY, WHAT YOU DOING?" Mousy turned around, trying to cover the dolls.

"Nothing."

"IT LOOK LIKE YOU MAKE TOYS, MAYBE I PLAY TOO?" Mousy looked from the giant to the toys, considering this. She eventually let him bend down and play with the tiny golems with her. Later Yaril walked in on the two of them, but stayed silent, looking on... and idea brewing.

~New design. MicroGolem Dolls~

==========

Eric and Archibold had been working tirelessly for weeks, trying to get their designs done before the deadline for their materials to be presented. So far they had finished figuring out how to improve the cost of their engine, swapping out some of the more expensive materials with cheepers ones imbued with golemancy. In addition they had brought in one of the passenger cars, installing it with both AC and clocks in order to add a bit of the "Wow" factor to their system.
>>
>>22077184
>installing it with both AC and clocks in order to add a bit of the "Wow" factor to their system.

Don't forget advertisement of the AC, people will start thinking different about this thing when they enter a passenger car on a really hot day and find it pleasantly cool inside.

>MicroGolem Designs
>Current Jobs: Shops and Such: (Brings in 40 Tarrlings per turn, occupies 4 employee.)

Do we need to make another action to start producing and selling the toys in our shops?
>>
>>22077283
Correction, remove the slave exempt licnse. Put this:

400 Tarllings, Magi Training: Send one of your special employees to the magi college to learn from a specific art (will give a boost to research in that). Arts include: Summoning Magic, Runesmithing, Alteration, Elemental Magic, Golemancy, Illusion Magic, Druidism, and Enchantment.
>>
>>22077300
Yes, you have the design but you aren't producing and selling them.
>>
>>22077283
>>22077239
I'm guessing it should be 6 more turns till tax
And two more till upkeep

E: Meet with the prominent toy stores around the city, see if they will stock you toy.

D: Research the toys to have less jerky movements, and make them a little safer for kids.

F: I say look around for small toy companies to take over. If we can find a small company with a few toys in their design, we could succesfully launch our own brand of toys as well as start producing our own doll.
>>
>>22077283
>D) Research into a new product for the market.

Make the engines more powerful so they can pull more weight. Would be useful

>>22077333
Okay, that's good
so, before we start selling them here's an idea
>D
R&D toys further. Make different versions. Make toys for boys and girls. For boys, we will make the typical toy-soldier stuff, toys that can fight with each other but don't actually damage anything (especially the kids!). For girls we will make toy-houses and appropriate props and doll designs, basically Sims where they have limited control over the life of the toys.
Also, all toys include switch-off, protection from tampering and make them secure (no toys moving around at night scaring the kids shitless)

then
>G
produce and sell the toy

then
>H
Get advice on how to improve our chances at the train contract. He might even suggest what we improve next.

Also, buy a market stall
>>
>>22077383
Well shit balls, it should be 3 until taxes and you should have gone through an upkeep. I'm an idiot.
>>
>>22077425
Oh, so we have 514 tarlings for now, right?
>>
>>22077408
>>22077383
This is why I don't like doing this with only two people and normally go the rule of three. I think I'll just call it here guys, because this causes there to be no one to do tie breakers. The next thread will be on tuesday. There are always less people on week end so wendesday's thread should be better. I promise to be on the ball then (also I will have to do money calculations for the stuff I missed.

That ok with everyone?
>>
>>22077505
kk thats tight, see ya then

I"ll be done with finals and be able to focus
>>
>>22077505

Well dang, okay then. What time will you be there?
>>
>>22077505
>>22077555
Also, it is not like we could have come to consensus. Both agreed to develop toys further before selling it, I can drop my suggestion to produce and sell toys this turn and instead go with looking for toy stores.

Though we must keep developing the train. That, I cannot drop.

don't forget to archive the thread
>>
>>22077581
>>22077555
2pm PST most likely.
