Hail, /tg/. Not Crusader Quest. I'm running this to see if you guys would be interested in it/the setting.

In 1914, North America is a fractured series of nations. The United Kingdom defeated the Rebellion of 1776, but were unable to prevent a successful French invasion of Ireland in that same year. The Scots revolted once more after the Spanish landed Prince Charles Stewart in Scotland, and Europe devolved into a free-wheeling chaos of a five way war, between Britain, France, Spain, the German principalities, and the Russian Empire. The colonies in North America soon followed, and by 1800, Europe had reachieved the status quo; each nation warily watched the others, while doing their best not to provoke overt ire and hostility. England, having resubjugated Ireland and Scotland, completely lost North America during the chaos of the war. The Catholic populations of Scotland and Ireland, facing vastly more strict laws against them, fled to the now free North America, where they, with their pre-war fellow emigres, managed to build a nation. However, due to their... fractious nature, it soon dissolved.

North America in 1914 is a patchwork nation of principalities and monarchies.

my vote is for Duke of Cetus

Antlia's western border are the Appalachian mountains. The eastern border is the Atlantic Ocean. The northern border is what would be today's border between Maryland and Pennsylvania, and the southern border is what would be today's Georgia-South Carolina border.

Diarchy is the rule of two, exercising power as two monarchs. See William of Orange and Mary's rule of England. The Diarchs are absolute rulers, the twin daughters of one of the previous Diarchs. They're confirmed by the Conclave of Lords upon succession.

>Duke of Cetus, relative to the Diarchs of Antlia.

How old is the Duke of Cetus?
What rank is the Duke?
Where is Cetus?
>Coast
>Mountains
>Midlands

Depending on where /tg/ chooses, our job will differ.

>Coast: Officer in the Navy, charged with patrolling territorial waters and preventing enemy action.
>Mountains: Officer in the Army, serving in units raised locally in the defense of the frontier.
>Midlands: Officer in the Diarchs' own guard.

Rank is relative to age. A 17 year old won't be commanding the respective units, but probably serving as a Lieutenant.
>>
>>22060001
>Midlands: Officer in the Diarchs' own guard.

lets make some connections, also what is the technology level?

He's 23, of high rank for his age, and is an officer of the Diarchs' guard in the Midlands.

1914. Only difference is that cars never got as big as they did in 1914, meaning horses are still highly useful.

>>
>>22059887
How old are the Diarchs? Just how close a relative of theirs is the Duke of Cetus, and how much influence does this relationship bring?

How does the Diarchy ensure it has two rulers? Twins made it easy this time, but in the past?
>>
>>22060081
The rule is ensured by the fact that at least one Diarch in the past has given birth to twins. Nobody knows why, but common acceptance is that God has a hand in it.

The Diarchs are 21 years of age, and have been enthroned for 5. The Duke of Cetus is a semi-close relative. Cousins.

I would have gone for Navy myself, but the Diarchs' Guard means we can be more involved in the politics and machinations of court. Besides, local units at the frontier did sound fun too, so it's not like there was an obvious single choice.

Navy also would have been my choice. Would have been able to scout the islands of the Far East and set up our own little island kingdom. All for Queen and Country of course. Plus ship captains get enormous freedom when at sea, as opposed to the crushing oversight of anyone still at home.
>>
>>22060617
Problem is, i don't think we have a clear vote. I would certainly be happy to wait since i am one of the naval Anons, but i fear you may alienate the Guardian Anons if you change at such short notice.

What I can do is I can write up two posts, one Naval, one Guardian, and let you guys vote on which one you want.

Plenty of airships existed around this time and were used by military forces, usually as part of a naval force for the US and Germany because they flew over water (US to patrol oceans, Germany to drop bombs on Britain).

The US had a good number of them that were airborne aircraft carriers.
>>
>>22060617
I'm >>22060546 and I voted Midlands, but I'm happy to change. Like I said, I can see any being fun, so other anons can make the choice.
>>
>>22060731
That'd be pretty cool.

>>22060742
I've heard about this like a million times on /tg/ but it's never actually come to fruition. We could be one of the political backers of the airship programme or something, and a bridge officer or command an airship for droppan bombs and slingan recon planes.
>>
>>22060742
The Navy has oversight of the airships, popular opinion being their floating ships and patrol boats.

It's broken down:
Royal Army
--- Royal Marines
Royal Navy
--- Royal Air Forces
>>
>>22060775
How far is the tech level in this alternate universe? Considering that there has been more war and fracturing it might be either farther or lesser advanced than in our timeline.

>>22060770
Disregard Airships, aquire submarines! No seriously, i am cool with both, and with conventional airplanes and warships.
>>
>>22060839
The Navy has U-boats like the Germans do; there's a lot of exchange between Antlia and the Germans, especially considering the Germans are the enemies of the British, and the Antlians have an almost genetic memory of what the English did to Scotland and Ireland.

Airships are able to launch fighters, but this time the Antlians are ahead of the Germans, with the Germans using Antlian fighters and airships.
>>
>>22060839
Subs were too regulated by now. There were treaties and all kinds of shit regulating their manufacture, and death was easier to come by as well. Airships are more of a wild-ass adventure craft.

You are the Duke of Cetus, aged 23, Lieutenant Commander on TMS Savannah, an airship analogous to an ocean going dreadnought. You served a stint with the Army and the Diarchs' Guards, but the open ocean and sky are your two true loves. You're the tactical officer for the ship; your job is to accept relayed information from the spotter's perches and telescope perches, turn it into a clear picture for the CO and XO, and give it to them. You're also third in command if something happens. Hopefully it doesn't.

You're currently listening to a telescope on the underbelly inform you there's four ships on the ocean below you, and a spotter on the top of the ship informing you there's four more ships above the Savannah.

>Do you inform the XO now?

You are the Duke of Cetus, aged 23, Major in the 72nd Highland Regiment. The 72nd Highlanders come from the Smokey, Cumberland, and Allegheny Mountains. Your cousins, Nicole and Alexandra, are the Diarchs of Antlia. After having served with the Cumberland Highlanders as a Lieutenant, you have actual combat experience repelling raiders from the Kingdom of Albany. Your uncle, Ian, also forced you to serve in an Army unit embarked on a Naval frigate acting as its Marine unit. The goal of your father and uncle was to provide you with a well-founded knowledge of all services of the Army, but it simply left you with a slight dislike of the Merchant Marine, and a love for the mountains.

Currently, you're inspecting the guards outside your cousins' office. Standing tradition is that the Diarchs share office space, but with two desks. One of the guards, a Private MacFitzGerald, reported that they allowed Earl Charleston in. That would explain the source of the shouting; Nicole is giving Seamus a piece of her mind on his idea of 'military spending' and 'switching from a gold standard' and 'stopping coal mining'. You enter silently, nod to the two guards posted inside, bayonets fixed, and kneel to the Diarchs. Rising, you tap Charleston on the shoulder. Being as he's a Colonel in the Guards, you have to call him sir.

"Sir, Your Highnesses, if I may?" They nod for you to go ahead.

"Can you please stop the yelling? You're making Private MacFitzGerald uneasy, and he accidentally bayoneted a horse I was on when he was uneasy. At least pretend you're being civil." Grinning apologetically at you, Nicole shrugs and then nods. Charleston and Alexandria are unwilling to end their hostility, and now target you.

Well, at least they're not about to kill each other. Just you.

Relay the information ASAP. The XO needs to be informed of any unregularities.

I have to side with the airship one, I think. We can get our court intrigue by wireless telegraph and radio just as well as we can get it on horseback with early machine guns and updated civil war weapons.

Probably airship to airship combat is all shadow-boxing and hiding in clouds and fighter screens and using radio cyphers to fuck with the processing of enemy trajectories in the enemy difference engine or some shit, though. Never come closer than ten miles to each other, maybe carry an artillery piece or two for pelting the enemy, everything else is gatling guns and anti-tank rifles.
>>
>>22061152
Don't forget the smoke screens. You can make one impenetrable to the kind of radar they'd have had before the 1930s by burning oil or liquid coal with certain compounds added that screw up its capacity to penetrate clouds, I think it's a resin additive or something.

The TMS Savannah is a MacKenzie Class Dreadnought, one of seven. Designed to operate as either a lone wolf, stalking air and ocean going shipping, or the flagship of a flotilla or fleet, the MacKenzie Class was named after a group of clansmen that died holding a mountain outpost against an army of Albany raiders, honoring their sacrifice. Because of its dual role, the MacKenzies could achieve a maximum speed of sixty one miles per hour, and it had an enhanced communications suite, with a carrying capacity of sixteen fighters.

You quietly tell the Deck Master to launch a flight of four, for closer reconnaissance. She informs you it'll be done, and then you inform the first officer of the spotter's sighting, and the telescope's sighting as well.

"Very good, Commander Fraser. Inform the Deck Master she is to launch a four fighter flight, and then inform Radar she's to turn on both systems. Omni-directional and directional."

You relay the order to Radar, and then you lean back in your seat to wait for the information. It's forth coming quickly.

"Radar reports the surface ships are German battlecruisers, escorting an envoy ship. Fighters report that they're being harassed by the dirigibles, two British and French heavy cruiser-analogs. Orders, sir?"

"Hm... Thank you, Commander. I believe this is to be a learning cruise for you? Very well, what are your orders?" Oh, wow.

>Launch the rest of the fighters, refuel and relaunch the recon fighters to try to protect the German ships?
>Close and begin engaging with them?
>>
>>22060972
Inform the XO immediately, unless these vessels are expected the possibility of attack takes precedence!
>>
>>22061546
>Launch the rest of the fighters, refuel and relaunch the recon fighters to try to protect the German ships.
But keep a flight of fighters back for CAP. Don't know if this is all that is out there. Might be an attempted ambush.
Ready all anti-air weapons, better safe than sorry.
>>
>>22061546
>Launch the rest of the fighters, refuel and relaunch the recon fighters to try to protect the German ships.

"I'd launch the rest of our fighters, and recall the recon flight for refueling and arming."

"Don't tell me, Fraser. Tell the Deck Master!"
You turn to your speaking tube and do so, before adding something else that occurred to you. "Deck Master, keep the recon flight back for combat air patrol after they're relaunched. This may be an ambush, sir." She acknowledges your orders, and gets the rest of the fighters launched and the recon flight turned around.

"Helm, take us to full military speed. Guns, prepare the anti-aeroplane weapons and the broadsides." Your orders are followed and the Savannah begins closing the gap, as the fighters begin harassing the British and French dirigibles.

"You retain command, Commander Fraser. I believe I and Commander O'Toole and I need a sip of wine. Mind the bridge for us, Fraser." The Captain and Commander leave the bridge, leaving you! in command of a MacKenzie Class Dreadnought about to enter battle.

>The bridge is yours, Commander!
>Order boarding parties ready?
>Order boarding parties to prepare to repel boarders?
>>
>>22061804
What are we doing that we are getting boarded or have to worry about being boarded? Definitely need to station the ship above the Brit/French ships to control the fight, but also to prevent just such a boarding. It takes much longer for a plane or ship to climb altitude than it does to dive the same distance.
What is the effective targeting range of our weapons and by-the-book time on target for our cannons?
>>
>>22061804
"Take us to above the French and British airships at half above full military speed, Helm. Boarders are to stand by to assist Damage Control." The nature of aerial warfare meant that often times, airships were upon each other before one or the other realized it, and when a boarding party or three could be placed upon the enemy dirigible, that meant that prize money would often times be forthcoming.

And prize money, you knew, could make a poor young lieutenant with no personal finances a semi-rich man. Yeah, you had had the finances of the Duchy at your call if you needed it, but your uncle Ian had control of the finances until you turned twenty one.

As soon as the guns on your stern armaments come into range, they open fire, sending shudders through the ship. The cannon mounted are 40mm, armor piercing shells, designed to at least pierce the armor, if not kill ships. The fighters are doing damage in their own way, gunning for the enemy bridges and propellers.

They've launched fighters of their own now, and are beginning to turn to present their broadsides to the Savannah. Grimacing, you know they're going to open fire as soon as they're in range. The Savannah is above them in the air, but only just. Due to North America's blood-soaked recent past, the Diarchy of Antlia has better military technology than other nations on the continent, and it's slightly ahead of that of the British and French. The Germans are on the same base with the Diarchy, but only because you aid them.

>Turn to give the Brits and French your broadside?
>Continue on, hope to survive what's about to happen, and then unleash Hell in the middle of their formation?
>>
>>22062266
(Thank you for clearing up the boarding issue)
>Continue on, hope to survive what's about to happen, and then unleash Hell in the middle of their formation.

We are a Dreadnaught! We fear nothing, prepare a single boarding crew to establish a beach head on the enemy command ship. Sending a second wave once the way is opened. Double prize to any who volunteer for the beachhead.(taking it from our own award if necessary)

Once we are among them open fire on all targets but the command ship. Maximum fire rate, and damn the guns! We need make this short, brutal, and decisive! Show these fools what it means to tangle with the Savannah!
>>
>>22062266
"Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead!" Ignoring the blank looks you receive, you charge gamely on, for Diarchs and country. "To any man or woman that decides they want to be rich, I'll double the taking for their share of the prize money if they volunteer for the first wave of boarders! I want every gun firing at maximum speed! I don't give a damn if we damage the barrels! We need to make this short and decisive. Imperial Germany is our ally, and it has never been said the Diarchy of Antlia left an ally hanging! Nor will it start today!"

The Savannah jumped forward, Engineering redlining their babies. Now she's in the Brit-French formation, and the killing work begins. The massive 105mm cannons on the Savannah's broadside open up, tearing through the enemy cruisers' armor. All of them start venting air, and as soon as they're below the Savannah, the boarding party jumps ship for the enemy flagship's command deck. Snipers have begun their deadly duel from the spotter perches, and the Marine contingent remaining on the ship have begun to take shots at the command decks of the enemy ships. "That's enough, Commander Fraser. You may join a boarding party if you wish." The Captain is back, and with her is the exec, Commander O'Toole.

>Do you go and join the boarding party? Members that help take it get a bigger share of the prize.
>Remain on the bridge?
>>
>>22063319
>Do you go and join the boarding party? Members that help take it get a bigger share of the prize.

"Aye, sir! You have the bridge, sir. Permission to assist with the capture, sir!" Stop and grab a pistol, axe, shotgun, and grenades if available. We need to force a surrender of all hostile parties.
>>
>>22063319

"Aye, sir! You have the bridge, sir. Permission to assist with the capture, sir!"

"Granted, Fraser. And don't die on me." Assuring her you won't, you dash off the bridge and to your cabin, where you belt on your sword and grab ammunition for the pistol in its holster on your belt. Running from your cabin, you make it to the deck and you're about to swing across to the French ship with the command of the enemy group, when an enormous explosion lifts you off your feet and slams you into metal, ears ringing. Staggering to your feet, you lean over the railing and see the envoy ship from the Germans belching fire and smoke into the air. The rope attached to your waist for swinging across the empty air between ships is five hundred yards long.

>Do you dive the five hundred feet and try to help the Germans find survivors?
>There's nothing you can do, despite little tiny blobs of white, undoubtedly faces, looking for any rescue. Swing to the bastard French ship and murder every son of a bitch you see.
