Or these guys.

Long story short the city was home to a cabal of mages who had a deal with some demons. They fucked up in came the demons, lots of rape murder and slavery, a few centuries later only tieflings live in the city ruins.

If the demon could breed he had a child so you've got everything from both sides of the Baetzu and the Taanari running around there.

But yeah, Luxan tieflings are cool.

Kobolds it is...

>>
>>22057772
How are tieflings bland? Or rather how are they bland in a manner that Lizardmen and Kobolds are bland in the exact same manner?

Kobolds= Wolf/Lizard people who are short.

Lizardmen= Lizards who walk like men.

Tieflings= People with demonic heritage. There's dozens of different kinds of demons that can breed with humans and there are dozens of different kinds of tieflings we could produce.

We JUST HAD a lizardman quest with the world, its time for tieflings,
>>

First off, no drow quest is currently running.

OP no.

Kobolds would just be short lizardmen with traps. Tieflings got a background Kobolds didn't you should go with what is fleshed out.

In the deep darkness of an ancient cavern, a group of Kobolds collected. A reptilian people of unknown origins they gathered. The world was a dark and scary place but numbers would be their greatest asset.
Soon a basic village was formed in the depths of the caverns, and the primary cuisine was fish that lived in the various subterranian lakes around the area. The 99 kobolds elect you as there leader. May you lead them to success and victory.

yeah.

-one minute of googling later-

and yeah I was right. Tucker's Kobolds don't impress me very much. I wouldn't call them shlock though that's going to far. Clearly Tucker's Kobolds are the archetype for trap loving kobolds though and an example our kobolds should follow.

Whatever. I have Kobold-ade I guess I'd better drink it.

Oh and thanks to the anon who liked Green-Leaf, I figured we should have names based around plants and stuff, like the leader being Named Vera, after Aloe-Vera.

I guess we should try to explore the caverns, domesticate some spiders maybe.

Tucker's Kobolds are simply one of several archetypes, cutebolds not included. Kobolds are lesser known because nobody really pays attention to the half hit-die monsters, but happily this means they don't have a sufficiency of history to create stupid figures like Drizz't or whatever the fuck.
Aloe is a plant. The -Vera suffix is a latin word that has little to do with floral shit.
>>
>>22058196
A1: Tame the ants.

Using our supeior knowledge of local plants and their uses I'm certain that we can find an herb that will disguise our scent to the ants and an herb that can be used to attract them.

Therefore we can grow these herbs and use them to convince the ants to build colonies around our settlements. While I doubt we can out and out train themI'm sure we can direct them.

The kobolds decide that before any rash action is taken they must study the Ants first. With a few watchers, they observe the Ants for a month. It turns out that the three feet ants are part of a much larger ant nest. They are attracted to a certain sort of carp that resides in the runoff in the cavern explored that leads to the lake .
It seems that every week, a small group of ants will try to fish these carps out of the water.

A piece of extraordinary luck happened. A small ant got carried away in the runoff and was drowning in the lake, luckily the waters managed to save the ant and carried it back to the village, where it is currently chained.

Eh, alI ever saw was "Short guys in between you and the shiny." My goblins usually build pallisades around their villages and ride wolves or similar animals. They also make use of fortifications, and whatever natural recourse they have on hand. One tribe for instance was near a tarpit so they used lots of alchemical fire weapons.

Kobolds being short guys in between you and the shinies did much the same thing. I put them in a system of caves, had them use pit traps and hidden walls and giant attack lizards and stuff.

also I never saw why goblins couldn't serve wizards or evil clerics and stuff so I guess the dragon servant thing just doesn't register with me.

hey opinions, whatcha gonna do?

Sounds good.

You know a sling is quite deadly and easy to make. You get some leather, make a pouch, put a smooth stone in the pouch. (we have a river, we're right next to a fucking gold mine as far as sling stones are concerned) and then you swing your arm towards your target.

Put the sling on a staff and you've got even more reach.

Plus I think slings are very Koboldy.

The ant is fed a continous diet of carp. The carp seems to be a relaxant to the ant, and it eases up. The kobolds are still very scared of the ant, but eventually the same kobold that nearly had his arm bitten off; on a dare mounts the ant and rides it around for over an hour. By the end, the ant is completely submissive to the kid kobold. The ant has been tamed.
The kid kobald has been promoted to beastmaster and has better relations with any animals.

Just a little more information about the kobolds, they speak a version of the draconic toungue, though it is very unrefined and no official script exists.
The main deity of the kobolds is Kurtulmak, the god of war and mining. The other main god worshipped by kobolds is Gaknulak, the god of protection, stealth, trickery, and traps. A lesser-known kobold demigod is Dakarnok.

Construct a wall that acts as a windbreak, either by building up out of the ground or by digging down.

If that's not something we have the manpower for, we could try taking any stones the stonecarvers/stoneworkers find to have odd properties of warmth and light and striking them over cast-off scales (or other flammables). That'd probably be fire.

A huge wall has been constructed at the entrance to Scaletown. The wall has been breaking the cold wind and food consumption is back to normal. Along with that, the miners of Scaletown have been saving strange minerals and stones that they find. One of the stones which the elders have named "Flint" produces a warm spark when it is rubbed against some of the other stones. The elders have yet to identify the charateristics of the other stone and strongly implore Firnen in devoting village time to finding this remarkable light/heat source.

A sorceress has emerged from the ranks. A young kobold by the name of Fuess. Talented at geomancy, she can do basic manipulation of various minerals and earth. Indeed she can even can lift boulders the size of a kobold.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I like Clove...

Clove is sent along with a metric fuckton of carps to lure to ants into the ambush to be captures. Firnen is in charge of the ambush along with 20 other kobolds. Clove riding his ant which has a buncha carps strapped to its head has the five other ants follow it to the bottleneck entrance of the village. After the ants exhaust themselves clawing at the entrance of the village. The ambush begins and right away the stone pickaxes of kobolds which are meant for mining purposes are useless among the thick chitin of the ants. 5 of the kobolds are butally killed but Firnen discovers that when the ant opens its mouth slashing the pickax seems to hurt the creature. 2 of the Ants die, and three others are unconscious. After regretful losses, the three live creatures are taken inside and chained to be tamed. And the two others are simply lieing at the entrance of the village with no practical use for them yet discovered.

The elders through meticulous trial and error has figured out that by stricking flint with a stone identified 'iron' a flame can be produced. What the flame can be lighted on a special type of rock known as 'coal' or 'black shit' a fire can be produced.

With extensive work, hearths are built into the heart of every kobald. The kobalds use the new gained knowledge of fire to build giant fires that heat every kobald up. Morale goes up remarkably, and the losses of yesterday are forgotten.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The three ants are well trained, and three new ant riders are trained under the instruction of Clove. These units are amazing scouts in terms of speed and attack.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two other ants are taken inside and examined by the elders. They discern that by carefuly cutting off the chitin and heating it with the newly discovered fire it can be molded as they wish. Chitin vests are made for the Ant Riders and Firnen. For more to be made, more chitin will have to be collected.

Some of the miners were throwing a sharp piece of flint around, because hey I need some fucking way to invent a flint spear, and it struck one of the kobalds in the elbow. The miner than had an amazing idea of long stone poles tipped with flint. Flint spears are invented.

And this'll be my last turn

I just realized you never mentioned how they got all the carp. You could invent fishing nets. That way they can stet them up in the river for a few hours and go get their big bag O' carp. You now have a sustainable way to feed the ants you train.
>>
>>22059699
The kobolds use, primitive stone spears to fish...
Very ineffeciant though effecincy has gone up with the flint spears...
>>
>>22059659
Mushroom trees, Lrn2 Avernum.
>>
>>22059739
he, no mushroom trees are known to be near the village, if an expedition is sent out, they might be found along with who knows what else

or maybe nothing will be found
>>
>>22059596
>>22059659
Some of the hearths are likely lined with stone for safety, and the kobolds might notice that the stones include specific rocks that kind of partially melt from the heat (ore, the metal melts out). In this way, they might discover the beginnings of metallurgy, though they'll be far from forging much of anything beyond oddly-shaped ingots. Good for sling-bullets, though.

Use the sorcereress - get her trained as a rider and give her chitchin kit. She can drop rocks on ants to stun them.

Use the bottleneck at the village entrance to corral ants - expand it and shape the landscape a bit, and you'll create a place to bait the wild ants into with carp.

Finally, throw stones and metal ingots (or sling them) and menace them with spears.
>>
>>22059787
This plan should have us as the proud owners of a medium-sized herd of ants for riding, labor, and eating in no time. Seconding.
>>
>>22059780
Well then I guess we'll have to search for mushroom trees at some point.

Hit /rs/ and search for avernum. It's a good game and its set in an underground kingdom so should help you get some ideas.
>>
>>22059787
Works for me. Thirding, also, make some slings.
>>
>>22059596
Create a large stone circle to corral the ants. The geomancer can seal off the entrance after the ants make it in.
>>
>>22059888
I guess we could use sinew and skein for the sling materials for now.

A massive baby boom has occured. Usually only one out of every five eggs will actually hatch, but the sudden use of fires to keep the place has increased the amount of eggs hatching. Birth rate doubles.

---------------
The elders have begun experimenting with certain stones that they notice melt at the hearth. The one metal they particularly notice is their old friend iron. Though a far way off, the elders are closer to shaping iron. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
--------------
Fuess is trained into an ant rider and given the last remaining chitin vest.
The bottleneck entrace is expanded at the sides and is now a makeshift stable.
(You will have to trap the ants next turn)

A pack of 40 kobolds run into your cavern. They are soon met with filern along with his warriors. Filern asks (Roughly translated) "Who are you? And why do you venture into our lands"
The leader of the pack, Vern replies "We are the last remenants of an attack on our village right near the surface of this cavern. We are looking for a home and place to stay. They chase us, and we cannot run forever"
"Who is this they"
"The tieflings"
"How many?"
"They sent forty to chase us into here"
A1. Allow them to stay at your village.
B1. Tell them there is no room.
C1. Capture them
D1. Kill them and take their equipment. (They are well equipped with what seems like human armor and weapons"
E1. Your suggestion
>>
>>22059979
Really OP?
>>
>>22059979
"If you will live by our law, we will make you our clutch-mates and defend you as blood-kin. We may even manage to settle the matter with the tieflings. Now, tell us of your conflict with them."
>>
>>22060005
Yes, it's funny...
>>
>>22060005
We don't have to fight them.
>>22060015
Say that, learn about the conflict, take them in, assess equipment, cross-train, etc. We'll need more adults to protect and feed that many hatchlings anyway.

If the tieflings aren't hot on their heels, we can trap ants and make weapons. Otherwise, prepare a defense.
>>
"Our tribe above the cave originates in the ruined city of the Tieflings, The Shadow. They were our masters, and we, their servants. I was there, when a great human palidan was captured and brought to the cells. I took care of him, and he asked for any assistance we could muster as a great siege would soon upon the city. We told him we would assist in any way we could. When the siege came, an underground tunnel which had been dug by my kind for escape long ago was suddenly turned into a siege tunnel. With it the battle was won by humans, and the tieflings were infused with a bitter hatred of our kind. The tiefling survivors of the battle escaped and rebuilt. Eventually they found our little village and massacred us all. We have no way of contacting our human allies at the surface without running into the tieflings so we fled into these caverns. And luck befalls us here you are."
>>
>>22060022
Mmm yeah no. Being petty is never funny.

In the mean time.

>>22060037
backing this, lets try and learn about these Kobolds, get their armor and weapons away from them (how do we know what human armor and weapons look like anyway?) so they can't take over the village if they're jerks and prepare for invasion.
>>
>>22060144
....Seriously?
>>
>>22060015
>our clutch-mates
So long as we take clutch in the most literal sense of the word.
>>
>>22060144
diplochallengeaccepted.jpg

>>22060148
We can set up an armory, if they agree to teach us.

>>22060169
Like a clutch of eggs?
>>
>>22060165
Meh, whats wrong with the story?

>>22060148
And some of the elders have lived above the ground before coming down to the caverns, they know what human weapons look like.
>>
>>22060201
It sounds like an R.A. Salvatore novel.
>>
>>22060199
As in we get to clutch their mates.
>>
>>22060276
Never read
>>
>>22060276
Its worse, I would say.
>>
>>22060201
Don't worry OP they're just being dicks, carry on
>>
>>22060295
he created Drizz't Do Urden, who was cool until everyone started immitating him.

Recently his work has gotten downright awful, rumor has it that he wants to kill of Drizz't but WotC won't let him and has him under contract to produce more books.

Its all kind of toxic really.
>>
Filern answers "You may stay, if you agree to teach us all you know"
Vern replies "Yes, yes a million times over yes. This will be our new home and we will do our best to defend it".
(Better knowledge of outside world gained along with some of the cavern, knowledge of iron tools gained, knowledge of slingshot gained, knowledge of written dialect gained)
40 new kobolds gained (They are easy to discern as their skin is much darker due to more presence in light)

You will get a map in the next thread....
>>
>>22060340
Thanks for the quest, OP, see you next time.

I wouldn't worry about the naysayers, every quest has them.
>>
>>22060327
I'm expressing an Opinion. I was having fun until the "Oppressed Kobolds" showed up.
>>
>>22060379
They're a vermin species, anon. Half their existence is being displaced and murdered by adventurers, these just managed not to die. They're not oppressed, they're just kobolds.

The point of civ games is that you make the story decent by working with what you're given. No need to be all sour grapes about it when there's cool shit to be done.

Also, basically every single civ game is snoflakery.
