Quest thread time again, folks! Sorry it's a little late tonight; it was starting the quest or eating delicious foods. I regret nothing.

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21996577/

Who's ready to finish this fight?
>>
I have arrived, I have finally caught up.
>>
Howdy, looking forward to another night of discussing the destruction of a zealous band of barbarians.
>>
>>22027920
I feel that Groza has betrayed the tribe, that his mobile little shrine should be smashed to pieces and when we get home we burn his actual shrine, replace him with Hrunti for the time being and replace the portable shrine with Wolf Banners.
>>
My body is ready.

>>22027952
We did kinda say "We don't need your help." Then come around and be all like "Ok, maybe we really do need your help." He has a right to be a little angry. Besides, he is just ignoring the situation at the moment, if we bust his shrine he will turn on us and actually try and actively make the battle harder.

Also smashing the shrine would destroy moral, we need to do as I said last thread. Act as if the spear is a gift and boost moral. maybe he will see that and take pity. It's the best chance we have.
>>
>>22028026
Destroy it after the battle. If we take this shit from the Groza then what stops some filthy god from deciding he's going to tell the tribe what to do?
>>
>>22028059
We do, we scorned him then came crawling back... honestly if the River Brothers had done that to us we would have done the same thing to them, if not worse.

We need to repair our relationship with Groza, we need a battle god if we want to compete with enemies who can use things like the Sun Cannon (that thing they shot last thread). We need godlike, and Hrunti has shown he is far more indifferent than Groza. Groza is our best bet for power. Besides, he is not telling us what to do, we asked him for help and he said no. It's not as if he gave out orders.

On another note, even if he did decide to start giving out orders we know we have multiple individuals who can best gods in single combat, we can simply solve the problem that way if push comes to shove.
>>
>>22028122
The mere fact that he had the audacity, not to simply deny the request, but to actually make it look like he was going to help by throwing down a spear (which turned out to be garbage) truly was an insult to the tribe.
Imagine you're a warrior on the battlefield, you figure your big boss man will help if you ask, he slaps you in the face - but you know you have men in your tribe that can smash his face in, what do you do? You slap him right back in the face by breaking his shrine. It's also a perfect opportunity to sort out a power structure of our pantheon. Not all gods are equal.
>>
>>22028169
Yes, not all Gods are equal. Groza is probably the most powerful one we worship. We need him, it'll help the tribe more to repair our relationship with him and get him to helping us again than merely smashing his shrine and driving him off.

Also, what message will that send to the other gods? You realize they all know each other, and if we do wrong to one the others will begin to dislike us.

Repair and rebuild, do not tear down what we have done. All you argue for is a step backwards.
>>
>>22028196
I do not trust Groza.
>>
>>22028263
This coming from a priest of Hrunti.
>>
>>22028263
Because he told us no once? We dishonored twice recently, and so now he doesn't want to give us a weapon to win.

We need to show him what we can do, take this joke spear and use it on his enemies. It shall be our longest fang, one of the artifact that shall follow our people through the ages. It shall taste blood this night.
>>
Britfag, lets hit the ground running! I need to hurt because I have a final in 4 hours!
>>
>>22028411
I think he has left the thread.
>>
>>22028425
No, that's just Britfag, he always does this.
>>
>>22028296
That might actually make us look like idiots though. Like, they intend for us to understand that this is a physical 'fuck you,' but if we treat it as something serious, we risk looking like fools not just in front of our gods, but our enemies.
>>
>>22028465
We also mustn't forget that Groza commits adultery with other tribes, whilst (as far as we know) Hrunti and Chani are firmly married to our tribe.
>>
>>22028465
Its a weapon carried by one warrior, the enemy won't have any idea he's even using it. Besides, we will not look like fools. We will act this way in front of the men, and then during the meetings of the high command explain to the leaders of each squad what really happened and our plan to cully the god's favor. Groza will be listening in, so he'll know what we're doing.
>>
>>22028492
...why is it a problem that he is worshiped by the Earthsplitters as well?

We worship gods that come from other tribes, if you start holding that against gods you're just being a hypocrite.
>>
>>22028516
I trust neither the sun in ascent nor the love goddess.
>>
>>22028550
If the sun in ascent had not protected Mickey his entire squad would be a burnt crisp at the moment. She is supporting both sides... which I do not like, but I can understand. She also saved us when we would have otherwise died a terrible death of having out tribe frozen to death.

The love goddess has helped move along Trym's and what her face's marriage, and allowed us to keep allegiances with the River Brothers.

Also, we have taken in a harvest god as well. It will allow us to maintain our grain harvest and fields... which we will need.
>>
>>22028610
The Sun in ascent only protected Mickey under the circumstance that he would become her priest, she was trying to increase her power base.

The Goddess of love is just that, a Goddess of love. She will not understand the political advantages of marriages and may condemn them for failing to have 'love'

I do not know this 'harvest god'
>>
Rolled 1, 1, 3 = 5

Let's fuck bitches.
>>
>>22028644
If it wasn't for Mickey most of his unit would be crisps by now. Whether you like it or not she is protecting them.

Also, the goddess of love... she hasn't been a problem yet so why worry? She has only been a help, we can not condemn her for hypothetical situations that may never come up.
>>
>>22028662
Britfag seems to have passed out... his poor british heart must have have out.
>>
>>22028673
She has not been a problem yet, but the Sun Warriors were not a problem until a short while ago.
>>
Rolled 1, 6, 1 = 8

>>22028680
So...IRC to dick around until he shows back up?
>>
>>22028718
Yes, exactly...

>>22028703
So what do you suggest? Drive her out before she ever becomes a problem? It will call a plague down on our tribe just as driving out Groza would. Both would hurt us far more than help. We need to increase our godlore to a point where we can defend ourselves with magic before we even consider driving out the gods.
>>
>>22028734
Keep a close eye on her follower, vanity should not be respected in the tribe, it does not produce kinsmen.
>>
Rolled 4, 3, 4 = 11

>>22028734
It's open, same Fang Time, same Fang Channel
>>
>>22028746
...you mean her priest?

Come on man, you are sounding paranoid. We need to increase our godlore and develop magic in our tribe.
>>
>>22028763
Tell me that when one of them betrays us to a different tribe. Even the ascending sun has betrayed her own people, by accident of course. She revealed their location to us and she has made mickey strong enough to block their sun magic.
>>
>>22028794
The thing is though, we do not give people to go to war against us. We only fight the Sun Tribe because they made the first strike. The only war we could be a target of is a war of conquest, and not from someone within the Riverlands... we're fairly safe.

After this it is only the Sprayfolk we need to worry about really, and they worship several Sea Gods... none of ours.
>>
>>22028835
You are very much hypocritical, the most noble sprayfolk give us gifts, be polite to us and have even loaned us a blacksmith to create bronze. Groza is a foolish god who does not even know how to work the metal he handles.
>>
>>22028854
They took our people, insulted us, and gave us a blacksmith who after several years among us still hasn't taught us Bronzecraft. I do not think he actually intends to teach us at all at this point. THat is part of the reason we went to war against the sun folk, in conquest comes reward. We can make them teach us bronze craft instead of learning it from the Sprayfolk.

Besides, I am merely saying the Sprayfolk are the only ones who pose a threat to our tribe. They are a large and powerful tribe bordering on becoming a city state. The Riverland's concord exists to help protect us against them if they ever seek aggression.

> Crap, sorry that took so long. Now then!

Gerin leaves his band and runs to the shrine of Groza, the god of battle. He offers an impassioned plea to his god in particular and all gods in general for aid against the enemy who calls down strange magic upon the heads of the Long Fangs and their allies. In response... Out of the clear heavens streaks a weapon that buries itself point-first in the dirt beside Gerin... At first glance, it seems to be a spear! But when Gerin looks closer, he sees the truth. The spear is not Groza's wall-shattering spear, but rather quite mundane... It is elegantly carved and fashioned of bone; useless in any kind of real fight. It takes a moment for it to sink in before it becomes clear. The Gods, feeling slighted at having their aid neglected the first time, have indeed thrown the tribe a bone when asked now... Literally. Amid some confused and worried laughter, it becomes apparent that the tribe will have to win this one through other means.

While Mikuhla moves on, still reciting his prayer to his goddess for protection from the sun, one of the Lion bands manages to rally, turning about and plunging back after the exposed Sun People! The Earthsplitters attempt to continue their advance through the hills towards the Sun People archers, but the wily foe withdraws further, still peppering the Earthsplitters with arrows and dropping a further twelve.
>>
>>22028931
Alright! You have 30 minutes to plan. Then I'll request you to finalise your move. Good luck and let's finish this today please!
>>
>>22028931

Gerin takes the spear and holds it high above his head and shouts. "This is the weapon gifted to us by the gods, the spine of the spirit, the longest fang. From this day it shall be Ya'jal the Spear of Bone. We shall take this and tear down their temple, tear down their gods. We are the long fangs," he thrusts the spear into the air, "and our fang shall taste blood this night!"

This will help boost moral, we shouldn't let the men realize what Groza just did.

We just let the others keep fighting out there, Mickey is bringing a message for them to come back to plan the assault.

We also should move Entherma's shrine to the center of camp, so as to maximize it's protection of us against the sun cannon in case it can reach this far.

For everyone else we merely settle in and wait until nightfall... each squad of hunters still with us needs to guard camp, make sure no one can get the jump on us.

Seconding.
>>
>>22028993
Ok everyone, head over to middit for chat

#longfang

it's to discuss off topic things, and for more quickly getting strategy across.

*mibbit

I apologize, I am an idiot and got the name wrong.
>>
>>22028977
seconding this... let's hope the idea works out as intended.
>>
Gerin takes the sun spear and says "I am sorry I am such a pussy Groza, I will try to bathe this spear in blood of our enemies in mortal combat." He says this to Groza and stops being a douche.

Thinking quickly, Gerin snatches up the spear that his god sent to him, brandishing it over his head and declaring it to be a sign of the gods' favour! His zeal and conviction seems to disguise the fact that the 'relic' is nothing more than a mundane, carved spear of bone. The warband cheers, seemingly emboldened by the gesture!

In the hills, the Sun People archers desperately attempt to skirt the Earthsplitters, only to be caught by the vengeful tribal warriors! Weathering another volley of arrows, the Earthsplitters charge through the hills and meet their foe in a great clash, cutting down almost a dozen foes. Their enemy has a good position however and fight like men possessed, keeping the numbers relatively even.
>>
>>22029598
Ok, so just one more thing.

I say we center out camp around the sun goddess's shrine and have the two groups of hunters guard the camp with bows ready. Besides that we simply wait the rest of our men and the other tribes to get back then wait for sunset.

Seconding.
>>
>>22029620
I'm okay with that. Seconding.
>>

Thording.

Sorry I'm late, had a play to attend.
>>
> This place is a ghost town! Again, I really prefer it when people discuss in the thread, rather than IRC. I know there's a lot to talk about, but that's what gives the thread its life!

Mikuhla's band suffer quite a surprise as they near the battle between the Earthsplitters and the Sun People. In a desperate attempt to break free of the encircling forces, the Sun People make a break for it, charging head-on into Mikuhla's forces! Though they inflict heavy casualties with their charge, Mikuhla reacts quickly, leading a counter-attack just as the pursuing Earthsplitters hit the enemy's rear. The result is that, after a brief, vicious melee, not a single foe is left standing! After a brief cheer of celebration, Mikuhla, through shouting and waving, indicates to the Earthsplitters to fall back to the camp now being established.

>>
>>22030929
Britfag, we thought you had died.
>>
>>22030929
Well, there wasn't much to discuss this time around. And the IRC was 95% offtopic and discussion of past mistakes, so no strategy discussion there either.

Also this:
>>22030961
>>
>>22030951
Ok, anyway, just wait till nightfall... give me a time skip good sir! We need to wait till sunset when their god is less powerful
>>
>>22030999
also...dammit other lion bros... where the fuck did they go. Too late now, can't fix that.
>>
>>22030999
Yea, seconding the timeskip. We need this to go faster, otherwise Brit's batteries will be drained.
>>
>>22030951
It's not that we don't like you, it's more that we like each other more.
Just kidding, we love you the bestest

And shouldn't Derrik be back by now?
>>
>>22031054
No I love you the besets

/spoiler but no really, britfag.... I have a total man crush on you
>>

I'm just here for brit's body...

Also Brit, mind joining the IRC? We promise strategy discussion will stay here.
>>
>>22031083
You want brit for his body? I want him for his c--

*gets smashed over the head*
>>
but seriously though guys... I have this awesome idea:

We break down the gate and actually make it into their city, we march forward and suddenly a woman dressed all in black walks down the center of their road. She is carries shadow in her wake.

"I am the Moon and the Eternal dark. You dare fight my people?" she holds up her hand and shoots tendrils of darkness towards our warriors. Where out of fukkin' no where a spear shoots from the sky with a thunderclap.

It's enormous and when it hits causes an explosion that knocks men off their feet, when the dust settles Groza is standing there, grappling with the moon goddess.

"You were right, they really aren't fighting fair." Seeing our god our men rally and clash forward against the Sun Tribe, battling around our two gods locked in single combat.
>>
>>22031215
>Groza is standing there, grappling with the moon goddess.
yea... grappling...
>>
>>22031215
implying that Hrunti wouldn't be the one to rescue us
>>
>>22031250
Groza isn't a fertility god silly... he is a god of combo---

Oh god he has a paddle!
>>
>>22031263
Groza would be more meaningful in my eyes since he gave us the finger. It would mend the relationship between us.

Also we need a god orgy... now.
>>
>>22031284
Dammit all, Refrek! If it's not demigod babies, it's trying to hook your gods up with others! At least I know you've only got two settings, but damn you for supporting Freudian theory.

>>22031047
It's not my batteries... Well maybe it is. I think I'm suffering from Quest Fatigue... Let's at least get this battle done, eh? I blame myself for it not being over already!
>>
> Why the hell can't I focus on one simple task like running this thread? Christ on a crutch...

The Lion Tribe's broken band finally reforms once it crosses the bridge, coming into the comforting bulk of the main warband. Mikuhla and the Earthsplitters are making their way back to the bridge however, when the priest has another sudden bad feeling. He begins to chant the prayer to Ermetha for protection, but realises too late the magic's true target! Having realised that Mikuhla is protected, the Sun People target the Earthsplitters, nine of them being blasted by the explosion of solar power and falling dead. Despite the blinding flash and the confusion it brings, the Earthsplitters manage to complete their retreat before they are fired upon again, making it back across the river.

The camp is set and night soon follows on the heels of the bloody day.

> Would you like a brief re-cap of your present numbers remaining alive?

Alright, Ref. What's our plan now? Make plans for the siege?

Any ideas about what to do about that magic?
>>
Not that we've made camp and setup some defenses, my suggestion is to fix up any wounded we currently have and make plans for the siege.

Their magic covers a pretty good sized area but not an entire hex, I suggest once on the other side of the river we march at the city with our people spread out. That way we'll minimize casualties from that magic and archers, I believe, since they tend to want to keep us at range and a bunch of smaller targets are harder to hit than smaller ones.

As we approach the walls themselves we form back up under the (I swear its very minor) assumption that they wont use magic near their own walls. Archers keep up fire on the walls as our rams get to work. One on the gate and the other not too far from it along the wall.

If I may make one other suggestion. Those Rams are important and I would request that one of them be folded into Mickeys group. Specifically the one that hits the gate. The longer we can keep is hitting that door and not suffering near instant death the better.

As for the marching order, Mickey in the middle with Gerin next to him holding the gift of the Gods up high as a boon to morale during this advance.

Seconding this. Got an addition though.

How about we have the lions with their fire jugs (assuming they have them) throw them at one side of the wall, so it gets set on fire.
Distraction, the enemy might send people there.
