[Sup, TankGuys and TankGals. I'll be swamped with horrible shifts at work so I'll be doing this oneshot SkirmishQuest. The premise ? Panzerfahren: IH Style ]

Cue Intro
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7VLTqGCOC8

The year is 700,

The nations of Tera have enjoyed a time of peace that some would call a thinly veiled ceasefire. With each nation progressing forward in this changing world, the courage to excel becomes the focus of national trends.

So what better way to go back to their competitive roots as martial forefathers than to witness the shadow of their great wars through;

PANZERKUNST !
USING THE STEEL LEGS OF RAGNYLL TANKS,
FEELING THE RUMBLE OF VOSSKON ENGINES
BEING NESTLED SAFELY IN IBONTIUM THRONES OF WALKING MACHINEMEN
ONE CANNOT HELP BUT BE HUMBLED BY WHAT THE GENERATIONS BEFORE US HAVE GIVEN !

AND YET WE MUST ROLL FORTH WITH PRIDE FOR OUR FOREFATHER'S WARMACHINES. FOR SOON THIS COMPETITION MAY JUST BE A SPORT NO LONGER BUT A WAR, A BATTLE FOUGHT FOR THE HEARTS OF THOSE WHO SIT ON THE BLEACHERS !

AN INVASION OF ROLLING STEEL !

Ahh... that felt wunderful.

Alright, let's begin with the meeting.

As you know our school, Isara Millitia academy, is one of the many institutes to practice PanzerKunst competitively and indeed the revenue that comes from such events are lucrative enough to support whole towns [and pay for the damages]. Which is why this school continues its tradition of the Martial Armor Fighting art well into more junior grades as yours. Which reminds me, I would have to get your names, care to introduce yourselves ? Likes ? Dislikes ? And Medical conditions I need to be aware of ....?

A name tag will be sufficient, after vvich we can start assigning armors.

> You are a millitary academy student that has either hailed from Ragnyll, a humble nation in the Valknyres that has weathered the fires of war, or you were from its millitant and disciplined neighbor Voss, [who likely started those wars]

Coffee Darkroast sir, first year! I love coffee as much as my parents did, not to mention a firm grasp on the art of sleeping 2 hours per night tops, I also have a firm dislike of tea and seafood.
*Coffee violently twitches for a brief second*And as for medical conditions... acute insomnia I'd say, but we wear that as a badge of honor in this family!

Ahahaha yes, let me introduce myself,

I'll be your official proctor for PanzerKunst; Officer Fahren of the Volunteer Peace Corp. Dont let the name delude you, we know nothing about peace, just the thing we try to prevent.

"Honestly, I don't know why you need our names when you have our records, but I am Archibald Von McO'Donovaneil, The Third."

Archi waits silently as he is being looked upon, as if he needed to answer more.

"What, you really want everything, do you? Fine, I enjoy praying, writing and being generally the best at everything I set my mind to. I dislike idiots, morons and rifraf of all sorts. I do suppose I am eager to participate in this little game, it should be a breath of fresh air from the library."

Again he stops, looking at the man, and sighs. "I have acute OCD about having everything prim and proper, however my eyesight is better then most, something to do with my ancestry, but I'm not too sure about that.

I'll settle for a few more, perhaps 2-3 more before we start, you don't happen to have anyfriends in the sciences ? sports clubs ? hell even those wierd fellows in game clubs will do as vell, your school could use the manpower it could muster. Armorfeight is no joke when it comes to what's on the line~

Mmm I don't need you to recite your records for me, but I'd rather your classmates knew who they are working with up front. After all you'll be spending much time together in the same Armor.

As for your eyesight, you'd do well for scouting and shooting at range but your OCD might throw off your game if you ever tried multiple armor types at once...

Question! What kind of tanks will we be fielding?
>>
Anyways, I know you're all eager to get into a ride, but first how about a view of both we and the Ragnyllian army was using at the end of the 6th century Valknyre wars.

After their flight from the mainlands of Voss, the Ragnyll consolidated their runaway scientists and engineers and began work on making mobile armors that could stand up against the heavy industrial machines of their neighbors. Fast, Maneuverable and very friendly to range, the Ragnyll excercised field control at the cost of cheaply built yet hardy machines ...

We have in our storage so far, a few bitanks and striders but only 1 Terran Transport. The Rigcycle cant be used for Armorfeight engagements due to them not meeting up to safety standards unfortunately...

Now I also have it on good faith that a friend will be willing to ship us some Voss imports. The Armors are a dime a dozen but they're made of the tough stuff that fought in wars.

Superior Armor, Firepower and even enginepower. But very lacking in maneuverability and weapon options are limited Since their add ons were stripped down aeons ago. So we don't have much to work with here , which is why we'll be taking today and tomorrow to get ready.

Ah... Ignore that coffee order. I happen to order from home in bulk ...

Unlike the binary movements that the Bitanks can make, turning and turnspeed must be taken into account when practicing with tracked armors. They have their own charms howevers, such as the ability to run over anything with legs.

Pay attention to this one carefully, it'll determine how effecient you'll be with your movements should you decide to go into driving positions or dream of piloting a voss tank.

Now, as your instructor, I ask this question to everyone; of these armors which one do you think will be the weakest in an ArmorFeight ?
>>
>>21989956
The one piloted by the worst pilot.
>>
Daughter of a Ragnyll mine baron with no interest in the mining business, had to go some place. What better than the tank academy. Do the nation proud and all that...

>>

Either the Strider or the Basilisk, because of its inability to move and act in the same turn.
>>
>>21989956
One sharply dressed student snaps to attention, her posture perfect and straight as a rail.

"From what I can see, Instructor, it would be the Scout Strider. It has the lowest armor rating and its gatling cannons will not be able to penetrate even Ragnyll armor plating, much less the thicker armor Voss usually employs. Its speed and maneuverability will only take it so far."
>>
>>21989983

And why the strider ?

>>21989988

Ahhh we have two well made points here;

The Ineffectual Strider,

And the armored Artilery Piece, the Basilisk,

I shall now extrapolate on their further use, but first to address your points.

The Strider is only good as an anti infantry and sometimes an anti-air stand in. On legs it was a terrifying machine that relentlessly hunted down stragglers and ghouls. Against tanks and they will be the other way.

To reaffirm their position in the front, R/D engineers have formulated a rather put together explosive compound that fired out as a viscous ball that soon detonated once oxygenated. This grenade launcher rivalled even the Basilisk in batter range due to their terrifying mobility. And now the basilisk....
>>
>>21989992
For obvious reasons, it's primary armament is ineffective against armored targets.
>>
File: 1355215348687.png-(199 KB, 438x530, FIXEDALLALONG.png)
199 KB
As an artillery piece it had subpar range, only allowing it to offer mid range support amongst colums of other tanks.

But to be fair it didnt need to do anything else. By itself it was definitely a poor machine but due to its intentionally limited frame, Voss factories were able to produce these twin snakes in pairs and they were in fact /deployed in pairs/

Driving it around is simple that just about anyone can cart it around with you, but once calibrated to fire, it was all about the Artillery commander to let loose a salvo on nearby targets. However its been known that setting the barrel to higher marks have allowed it to hit farther than it says on the manual.

It is also known that it's limitation of range was conquered once spotting support was given... ensuring that fire saturation made up for its lackluster aiming.

To my knowledge the Dagram Academy have a competent team consisting mostly of bitanks. Their strategy of only fielding a singular type of armor has come very far.
>>
Do we have mpre information on the other school?
>>
>>21992977
I have to admit, they have very good taste.
>>
>>21990289

I'll be going with one of the Ragnyll staples as well, as much as I dread getting into the thing, at least it will be by myself!
>>
Do we have a strategy lined up for this? I assume we do, but it would be very generous of the group leader to explain it.
>>
>>21997919
Nothing concrete, yet. We don't have much of an idea for terrain, and all we know about the enemy composition is lots of bitanks.

I know from experience that Bitanks are extremely formidable. They're fast, maneuverable, durable, and pack a punch, all in one compact package. The trick is trying to find a way to ambush them, because if the bitank sees you first, you're dead.
>>
>>21998012
Might I propose someone takes the transport, and we put as many of out available units inside and scout around, going in for a surprise attack on their flank. With the rest of the team following slowly behind, reading for a pincer.
>>
>>21998063
Terrans can only hold infantry.

>>
>>21999358
Well if you are feeling up for it, maybe you could try for the simple ragnyllian strider? Equipped with the scourge add-on, of course.
>>
I'd like to point out the that both the strider and octoped would benefit extremely being paired with each other. If they can work smartly together, they can deny a huge area. This could be important when facing an enemy that relies on mobility, such as the all bitank team.
>>
>>21999905
But we do not have access to the octopoed
>>
Ha! And they thought they could bar me from competing with disciplinary action. How unfair, I only broke one guy's arm, and everyone knows knockouts don't count for disciplinary action!

>>
>>22001572

Ah, now I'm embarassed I forget that valknyrian millitary callsigns were rather similar of each other.

In any case your first task is to consolidate your team. No more than 8 can be fielded. And they all must have an armor assigned to them.

Quick and dirty guide to Rostering;

[bt1] Mcaffee
[bt2] Mell
[bt3] Ahbed
[ss1] Shaheed

Notice the numbering of each unit with different models, It's also possible to assign numbers to people independent of their unit, for example.

[bt1] Pomish
[Ss2] Poorish
[bs3] Parish
[Bt4] Peter

However I would stay away from custom numbers, I tend to save those for those who've earned it you see. [But I'll let you be the judge of that.]

This battle is an 8krew limit, the enemy may field less but dont expect them to hold back just because they did.
>>
>>22001786

Are 2-vehicle units such as the basilisk and Striders 1 crew or 2? (I would guess 2 just because of numbers obviously...)
>>
>>22001810

It seems ve have the priority on this round's coin toss, but before we decide our starting quadrant, a Team name perhaps ?

Also, the map current.
>>
Looks like a squadron of 2 for basilisks and striders counts as 1 Krew, so the roster stands as posted before.

Well, I'll ask around what you all think for a team name. And for map quadrants, well I think the NE has its virtues; we can use our relatively large amounts of indirect fire from there and we force the enemy bitanks to deploy on empty terrain, where their mobility is somewhat negated. We'd have to keep an eye on the alternate approaches to our quadrant though...

Forgive my shit-scribbles, but let's go with this as an opening plan of action. Artillery camp out in the light blue zone, using the wall for cover. Tank killers fire directly if given the option and cover for basilisks behind them. The tracked vehicles blow a hole in the ruins and try to hold the bridge over the chasm, while scout striders outflank with cover, etc. Terran transport digs under the enemy and hits targets of opportunity. Sound decent?

RAIN CHECK ,ADVANCE !
CONSOLIDATE YOUR DEFENSES.

the BattleTank will be your flag tank this round. Should it get disabled or defeated, the leader will not be able to call for [Reinforcements]

Let's go over the rules again,

Each team's objective is to Take out the FlagTank, or accomplish the total annihalation or disablement of all forces.

Should either side lose too many units, they may request for [Reinforcements] which will allow them to Refield their benched pilots.

However, when this happens, the opponnent may choose to upgrade, or "tune up" their machines , allowing them to increase their combat parameters.

Both sides may freely call for reinforcements once per turn at the beginning of their turn.

Now, let us begin !

This match's time limit is 6 ROUNDS.

Enemy Phase.... It seems they know this place well enough to dodge our vantage points.. Be vigilant !

[Enemy Phase] - Discuss Strategy if you wish.
>>
>>22004442

Hm. I don't like this... Check the nooks and crannies for an ambush, and don't get caught unawares! If you're nervous call down some basilisk fire on a suspicious spot.
>>
>>22004442
I feel useless up there, nothing on our half of the map...Or in my maximum range.
>>
>>22004500

>Driving it around is simple that just about anyone can cart it around with you, but once calibrated to fire, it was all about the Artillery commander to let loose a salvo on nearby targets. However its been known that setting the barrel to higher marks have allowed it to hit farther than it says on the manual.

>It is also known that it's limitation of range was conquered once spotting support was given... ensuring that fire saturation made up for its lackluster aiming.

I think if we can spot a target you can fire at it pretty much anywhere. But the shot will likely scatter similarly to the BtK when fired indirectly.
>>
>>22004525

The enemy will probably move N from the SW corner in order to get some height on us and use the rough terrain to their advantage. Also there are obviously tunnels they might be able to utilize. Keep scouting for our basilisks, and again, try not to shoot all our artillery at one time unless there are multiple targets of opportunity.
>>
>>22004525
Very well, I will remain here. I am sorry for being unsure, I am unfamiliar with the Voss machines.
>>
>>22004605
"We can always collapse the entrance to the tunnels, if they try to use them against us."
>>
>>22004616

Don't apologize, this is literally the first time any of us have used a basilisk anyways. You and Aldon get to be pioneers!
>>
>>22004646
If I could have gotten my hands on an old Aeon machine...We would be halfway to victory by now.
>>
>>22004680
Ehh, they must cost a ton. Maybe ask the Principal if he'd be willing to raise up some support or something.
>>
>>22004732

I think there's still some heresy involved with driving one of those things for secular purposes... Not that I'd know.
>>
>>22004746
Unless I'm mistaken, the old small suit-types weren't so bad. But then again...even for us Aeon exchange students it's somewhat iffy to get some knowledge on them. I'm going by textbook references. However, for a design proven and tested and never replaced, you have to give those beauties some credit.

" SHIT !! "

===

Their Flag tank is annihilated; I will say that this victory goes to you for now. Normally a game of " Waves " would have dragged on for much longer.

Rain Checks take Victory. That is of course you wish to settle for another name ~ ?
>>
>>22006171
Well, according to the terms of the bet, in addition to the Ironclads, if we won we would also obtain the rights to the Steel Rain name.
>>
>>22006171

Ah, the Terran. Truly a king in these kinds of matchups. Well, I think we learned a few things from this, not the least of which is... spotting for indirect artillery shots probably needs someone to spend an action on it.

So, we still want to change names? Or do you all want to stay Checkers for now?

Glad we won, all of you who actually managed to land shots. I know I sure didn't. Glad I was able to play bait for you all! Basilisks and Tank Killers showed their power in this kind of matchup, and underscored the importance of scouts.

Maybe now they'll take that disciplinary action off my record....

Well I definitely never thought that these sands would give way to an enemy from underneath. It seems I am content in entrusting this victory to you,

But I'm curious, even though you're Ragnyll you don't seem to adhere to any one Nation's way of doing things and I can recognize that Aeoni accent anywhere.

There a reason ?
>>
>>22006285
I do think that bringing in a little of everything is an effective strategy, coupled with the surprise effect. How would you react if the opponent fielded armors from all 4 of the great countries?
>>
>>22006285
The Hellghasts we mentioned earlier had a similar composition. Even though they were a Ragnyllian unit, they had a lot of expatriates as well. Aeon nobility, Cloven engineers, Iffram trained casters, hell, they even had Voss in their ranks.

That being said, you do NOT want to know how complicated my family tree is.
>>
>>22006285

Ha, well hell I wouldn't know any reason for it - I was late to class as usual. Heck, I just wanted a ride that wouldn't get obliterated in a single shot by a bitank! But hey, it's the mark of a good team that can take so many disparate elements and work them together, or something sentimental like that.
>>
I see... the mobility of bitanks would do well in a pinch, and the vosskon steel always pull their weight even under fire...but.

The tradition of Armorfeight is not as easy as winning fights with the bestest tanks, my friend.
It's also about showing your home's colors and showing them that you're not to be trifled with. But still, to see so many kinds of people in the same team... gives Ragnyll a sort of .. Character. Aheh.

I never did understand other schools' adherence to using one nation's armor. It seems pretty limiting, you know?

It seems that with our newly acquired IronClads, we not only invite more kinds of people into the ArmorFight, but also more styles. I'm not one to talk, but Infantry combat means we would need more members. And possibly specialized training of a sort.

Dmitry, I'll leave it to you to pick /4 classes/ for new recruits to sign up to. Perhaps even appoint a 2nd Lieutenant to help the foot sloggers.

Everyone else, you may tend to your studies, your armor, your loved ones or your lives, but I expect a better you tomorrow. Dismissed !
>>
>>22006345
Exactly, Alfya's tactics couldn't kill Iceheart for good, they'll never be any use against me.
>>
>>22006345

It is no surprise, that Terran is infectiously good at emulating it, which is why we'd love to have one. Oh well, perhaps we'll see each other again next time~ I might run into some juicy trading opportunities with my Clovish contacts.
>>
>>22006364
Not to sound out of place...but if you ever come across Aeon machines. Even 1 single Rook. Think of us. I'd love to see what we can do for such a fine trade.

The ArmorClads are the modjobs of the century. Allowing human frames to wield proportionally larger weapons. With this, weapon damage is greater and they also allow for [HEAVY] damage types that wouldn't normally do anything to armor before ~

[weapons that are already hvy do not undergo a damage type change in this way]

>>
>>22006588
"I-I guess..." Isara stammered, not expecting the sudden invasion into her personal space. "Just give me a second."

With a piece of chalk, Isara scrawled the word "LUPUS" onto the side of her bitank. After all, it was family tradition to name a tank that you had taken a liking to. Lupus was a fine name for a venerable machine like this.

Archi rummages trough his equipment left outside the battlefield, returning to his fellow classmates minutes later. "Alright, I planned for this and while this will never be as good as a real stone oven, this small portable metal one will do the trick."

Starting a fire in the small portable oven, his hands would flow fast, assembling what seems to be dough, some sort of red sauce, a few large aromatic leaves and some uneven clumps of cheese. "Now we leave this in the oven for a few minutes, cut it in triangle shaped slices, and we feast!" he'd smile back, thinking that the smell of his dish would do most of the talking for him.
>>
>>22006629

"Well, you sure weren't wrong about feasting. I've been running myself ragged between all these school troubles recently, I haven't been able to get a decent meal in edgewise. So now that we have some better equipment, shouldn't we get some dirt on the next team? Knowing these guys had mostly Bi-Tanks helped, but this is a Voss team, who knows what they may have.
>>
>>22025363
The glorious Vosskon tanks nearly always have heavy armor, so we must be sure to have armor piercing or destroy damage weapons when we go up against them.

Also, what do you call this... strange food you made?
>>
>>22027591
I do believe the basic term for it would be Pizza. This is the traditional recipe. But you can honestly put anything you want on it, as long as you respect the basics of dough, sauce and cheese. I had someone from Clovis put a lot of meat on his. I find that it kills the basic aromatic taste, but as I said, everything works.

A little bit of a primer on ironclad infantry.

Ironclads are almost incomparably fragile in a Panzerkunst match, neither having the numbers of striders or basilisks nor the durability of the heavier tanks to survive hits, although you have the ability to go prone and utilize cover more effectively. Also notable is an ironclad's ability to run, which allows the soldier to give up his actions for the turn in order to move twice his MOV. This pretty much sticks you into a support role or a skirmisher, and the classes chosen reflect that.

The [[V]] has the direct combat capability to effectively engage enemy vehicles, as well as even more effective cover to survive enemy retaliatory fire. But frankly, its short-range offense in a game that seems to be increasingly dominated by artillery or long-range guns is dubious. Short of sticking one in a Terran Transport, their best use is literally using their shield as moving cover for a flag tank or artillery position. If you do manage to get close to an enemy tank you can do some nice damage, though. If you need help, take advantage of both of your actions! Raise your shield and then either spot for artillery indirect fire by your allies or overwatch. A final note: try using shield bashes, they might actually be more effective against tanks, though I am not going to guarantee that statement is correct.
>>
The [[M]] doesn't really bring anything to the table offensively that isn't already better covered by the bitank, though its AoE capabilities will punish closely formationed tanks. Instead, its most interesting abilities are its flare and smoke support grenades, as well as the remote charges it has access to. Both support grenades effectively cover a 19-hex comb (radiating 2 hexes out from the center). The flare clears fog of war, illuminating the targetted area. The smoke round instead blocks LoS, generating new fog of war for the enemy. This makes these support rounds vital for supporting the long-range firepower we seem to have no shortage of, as well as counter similar enemy units. The Demo's remote charges are great both for clearing terrain (or perhaps collapsing it on the enemy) and for protecting our sides from enemy outflankers. Don't overlook these abilities!

The [[S]]'s one offensive virtue is its range, as otherwise its rifle isn't the most effective anti-tank weapon. While it can one-shot striders, it will barely scratch most Voss models. Your best bet might be to maked called shots in an attempt to hamper enemy tanks instead of destroying them outright (Called Shots take a -1 penalty to hit). Keep in mind the rifling property, which allows the weapon to fire beyond its range for a -1 to hit penalty for each hex beyond its range. The Scout's more universal spotting ability can benefit allies beyond our basilisks and tank killers, and hacking the enemy's radio channel is as useful as it sounds.

The [[Hm]] and [[Hr]] were pretty much just picked because ironclad rockets are one of the most powerful armaments available. However, the Heavy Machine Gun is no slouch against lighter armor. Their stationary nature fits them to a defensive role, but try hitching a ride on some of the sturdier tank models. Ironclads riding tanks... might be dangerous but it'll be damn cool!

Coffee runs back to try and have a moment with the commander after their decisive victory. "Commander Farhen, ma'am! I'mWonderingIfYouHaveAnymoreInformationOnTheNextSchoolWeHaveToFight?" he'd ask, sipping away at a mug of steaming hot coffee he had brought with him.

"IfWeCouldGetInContactWithThemItWouldBeCoolToKnowSomeInformationAndPerhapsIfTheyWouldBeWillingT
oAnteSomeOfTheirTanksToALittleBet." he takes a moment to breathe in for the first time, doing his best to slow down his speech. "InShort we want to....know if we can...meet or contact...the leader of their team...for a pre-battle chat. Size the opponent up...SoToSpeak"
