Storytime ho!

The beards or not issue had better be settled. I can't find anything before now related to it, and I wrote the first dwarven waifu to my knowledge... telling people "that kinda counters huge swathes of what everyone else has written" for why their new story doesn't work is one thing.

Telling them "We don't like what you've written even though it doesn't counter anything previously written and fits with everything else pretty nicely" is something else entirely.
>>
>>21973463
that said, going to begin writing the next portion of the story.

And at the same time, will explain how Fearghaile, our diplomat, was so ill informed, through no fault of his own.
>Bearbraids = kilt plaids is my thought. So what do you do for those with no natural beards? False ones. You'll see.

I would like to counterpoint that while no one has written a story about it, Bearded Ladydwarves are very much in the archives as discussed and agreed upon. Personally, while I am of the opinion that these beards should be a development of young adulthood, I will gladly concede this to a form of "beardopause" and that these things grow during middleage when a Dwarf-woman is no longer fertile.

Presumably, this would not interfere with Jistin's current stories where his waifu Ingelill is apparently still in young adulthood, at least by Dwarven standards, and as thus has not yet aged to where she will grow a beard. In fact, unless Ingelill is more than 25 years his senior, there is the distinct possibility that Jistin will not live to see his Dwarven waifu bearded as Dwarven middle-age is around 85-110 years of age. And even as such, it is a rather unfortunate implication that he should love her for the lack of whiskers on her chin than the beauty in her heart.

From there I can't think of any other story that features female Dwarves older than middle-aged, unless I'm mistaken?

No, there are no Tarrasque. They are world breaking creatures created by Gygax so that DMs would have something they could unequivocally party wipe with. It is a plague upon every setting it is in.

Quick heads up concerning my writefaggotry; I'm currently playing host to a friend from out of town. He tends to hog my PC, so my attendance has been sporadic at best.

However, I've been writing on and off during this time. Come the 15th, expect to see a good amount of material from me.

Well, she’s gone. Kikki left on her journey to the Jungles. She wouldn’t let me come along, which sucks because I wanted to be there with her, but damn. This is the longest I’ve been away from her for more than a day since we went on that first quest to the Dwarven mountains after establishing the knights. Four weeks. Almost a whole damned month. What the hell am I gonna do.

Go to the mountains of course.

In retrospect, this was probably a bad idea to do this in winter, even if it was the second half. By the time I returned to the city of Dervish-Rah, the local authorities had blocked off the mountain pass. I couldn’t go up that way even if I wanted to. It’s fine though, I managed to talk my way onto the lift. Most Dwarves have a good respect for citizens of TeeGee, since we were industrious and reliable and helped them clear their tunnels from hazards when they need without complaint. Mostly though, they’re just surprised (and probably a bit flattered) that a human would be interested in their faith.

“You’re late, Laddie.” Master Orekhim stood before the gates to his monestary. The wind whipped his beard to the side, though the driving snow seemed not to touch him or accumulate and his blue cataracted eyes seemed to glow under his hood. The Dwarven mystic turned through his door, leaving me in the blizzard.

I sloppily followed through. “Wait up a sec!” But the door closed before I could enter. Heaving the hammer to ring the bell outside, I tried to get in. The lift had already descended and would take a good long time for them to bring it back up again. I don’t much like the idea of being on an icy cliffside with a blizzard raging. “Open up!”

A small door opened and a head poked out. “<Who’s there? Food stocks go through the OTHER door. There is no entry into the monastery witho->” the grey streaked beard of Brother Bloodbeard expressed a level of supprise and then he quickly turned to the Common trade tongue. “Oh, Brother Fearghaile! I was unaware you were to come back!” The little door closed and I could hear heavy deadbolts unlocking.

“Really? Master Orekhim was just outside and telling me how I was late.” I yelled to get over the wind and through the heavy wooden door.

The gate creaked open and I was face to, well, waist to Brother Bloodbeard. “No, that’s quite impossible. I was just sitting here at the door. No one has come by here in almost an hour... unless...”

“Unless?”

Darius chuckled to himself. “Well, you see sometimes the Master likes to play tricks on us from time to time. His mastery of Mountaintongue allows him all sorts of abilities which we do not always expect.”

“Really? I never took Master Orekhim as much of a prankster.” The idea of the mystic planting a whoopie cushion or throwing a pie at one of the brothers tickled me, but the ‘greeting’ he gave me just a minute ago didn’t seem very goofy.

“He normally isn’t, but the Master likes to remind us that laughter is a key to the soul. I must say when I came I wasn’t expecting that out of the Warden of the Sword Arm.” We came to a cell, though it was rather Dwarf sized. “Well, I presume you came here to stay, here we have your cell already prepared.”

“Aren’t there only so many? What of other students?”

“Interesting you should ask. The Master has only accepted one other student since and has asked us to maintain this cell for when our ‘prodigal brother’ returns.” The aged Dwarf turned to me. “I’m presuming that would be you. Speaking of which... CORBIN!” His voice seemed to shake the halls as footfalls rapidly approached down the stone hallway. What looked like a middle aged Dwarf with a curly beard stood at attention, panting heavily.

“Yes Brother Darius.” He greeted his fellow submissively in a squealing tenor, bowing his head. “Initiate Corbin, this is Brother Fearghaile.”

“Lem is fine,” I pipped in, noting that Corbin called Brother Bloodbeard by his first name.

“- Brother Lem.” Darius gave me a look that insisted I don’t encourage him. “Go draw him a bath and fetch him some tea. It must have been a long journey.

Before he scurried off as the new guy, Corbin grasped a hand that was hanging by my side and shook it vigorously. “Brother Fearghai-, er, Brother Lem, it is a deep honor to meet you. I heard tales of your exploits in saving Master Orekhim.”

I stood there awkwardly, returning the shake firmly, so as not to give the wrong impression. “Y-yes, well, it’s what they pay me for. Eheheh...”

“INITIATE CORBIN.” The walls shook again as Darius bellowed, sending the initiate out to get me some tea. “I apologize for Initiate Corbon. She’s a little... excitable.”

“Oh, it’s a she. Corbin is usually a male’s name.”

“That’s because Corbin is her surname.”

“Oh, but then why did she call you -”

“Darius? Because she doesn’t listen is why. I would ask you not to encourage Initiate Corbin by telling her to be so familiar, but the Master wishes to see you as soon as you are rested. Now that you have passed our Trials, you are technically one of us, but I’m sure Master Orekhim wishes to fill you in on our way.”

“I’m only here for a few weeks though. I have a... um... an engagement.” I smiled wider than I should have let myself, but all Darius did was roll his eyes.

“Monks of this monastery are never held here against their will. If you do leave, I will not mourn your passing. To me you’re barely more than a young whippersnapper by my accounts, and while I am very grateful for your act of tremendous service to the Master and this community, I am still an entire human lifetime your senior. Many are called -”

“But few are chosen.” I couldn’t resist. It was the motto of the Diplomancer Corps and the phrase I put under the heraldry I made for myself.

Brother Bloodbeard turned to me, unsure of whether to be surprised or impressed. “Yes. Well, I suppose the Master has his purposes for you to be here. We will see if you fulfill it.”

“You talk like a Dwarven Senator.” I said before I could stop myself. I didn’t regret it, as it was at least half-way a compliment.

“I was, in a previous life.” He just smiled and left me to my tiny quarters. I did not complain. Being accepted as a part of the community was deep enough an honor. To complain that I didn’t fit the bed would be terribly presumptive. I made myself to look busy when Corbin came back around with tea and bath water. SHE didn’t particularly seem to get it at first when I asked her if I could have some privacy before I disrobed, but some time to myself and a simple meal of lentils, I was ready for the next day.

Probably because of the short bed or the cold, sleep was restless, but the sky was clear and the sun warm on my skin. A good Omen. Brother Bloodbeard led me to the back entrance to the Sanctuary where Master Orekhim made his hermitage. “Do you mind making your own way up? I have to make sure that Corbin doesn’t overcook the lentils again.”

“It’s just a straightshot up, right? I should be able to manage”

“Good.” He handed me a box. “Here’s the meal for the day, and DO NOT interrupt the Master if he is meditating.”

I took the box up the steep and narrow passage until I made it to the simple metal door that made up the entrance. First I knocked, the bronze making a satisfying clink, but after hearing no answer, I tried the door myself. Heavy, but open. There sitting before a curved wall of ancient writing was Master Maximos Orekhim, Warden of the Sword-Arm.

Heeding Darius’s words, I carefully placed the box on a simple stone table and sat patiently behind him. I shivered in the cold, but the restless night before and my own boredom started to put me to sleep. “If you’re looking for something to do, build a fire. Yeh must be cold.” Orekhim’s voice broke the silence and I snapped to. He hadn’t moved. I wondered if he had even said anything at all or if it was just my imagination. “Yeh heard me, laddie. There should be some wood over by the rear of the room.”

Alright, I definitely heard that one. “Sorry, it was a rough night.” I got up and started to gather wood around an ill-used fire pit nearby to the wood.

“Something on yer mind?” He remained still as statue. If one didn’t know any better, they might think he was one.

“You could say that.” I continued stacking the wood as I remembered back when I went camping with my dad in the old realm. Didn’t particularly help the state of mind I was finding myself in. Increasingly, everything that lay before me seemed more and more overwhelming. Firearm proliferation, responsibilities to the state, getting married. GETTING MARRIED. “There’s a good amount on my plate.”

“And you want some guidance I’ll be presuming”

“Something like that. I thought maybe some time up here would help clear my mind.” Building this fire was tough as my fingers numbed, but I put something workable together. I looked around. No way to start it. “Do you have a flint and steel? Or maybe some matches?”

The statue moved. Master Orekhim got up and moved over to the corner I had built the fire in. A word that felt like it split my head thinking about what it sounded like, and the small fire I built was crackling with life. “I’ll gladly take yeh on, Laddie, but I’ll need some dedication. You’re not to leave until I be satisfied.”

“But I can’t stay that long, I have to get married in four weeks!”

“Well then, we’d better get to it then, ‘ey Laddie?” The corners of his white beard curled up and I saw equally white grinning like a madman. What exactly have I gotten myself into...

On behalf of my client Jistin, I claim the space marine clause. Which follows as, they make men regardless of what they start with. Meaning her beard is a side effect of studying moutainspeak, and has little to do with her age.
>>
>>21977962
And I'm going to go with the "it varies" clause of biology.

Some people can't grow beards at all, others can grow big ones. Some lady dwarves grow beards at menopause, or not. Since Ingelill won't ever reach that period of her life in the terms of my stories probably, it will never be an issue.

Now everyone can be happy.

Though I have to say Fearghaile, it was a dickmove :S

also going to write up my version and we'll let people decide between themselves which is true. Since mine won't preclude the whole growing beard thing.

Now I need to find the pictures backing up my argument on why this shouldn't be the case :S

While you might see two different Dwarves here, I see the same one at two different points in her life. The first at 122, protecting a grandson, and at 40, in the prime of her youth.

See, beards are symbols of power and wisdom in Dwarven society. That all Dwarven women eventually grow beards is an important as it's Devish's proof that EVERY Dwarf, regardless of gender or social status is worthy of society. Beardopause IS my compromise so everyone can be happy. "It Varies" is a wishy-washy answer that comes about because the idea of a waifu with a beard isn't attractive to you. There's nothing that particularly conflicts with it and there's nothing that particularly makes it problematic for any character, including yourself. Within Dwarven society, beards serve a purpose, a purpose that provides depth to the order of things. They're a physical symbol that proves that Dwarven women are in every way equal to their men, and in my understanding of it, they're also a matter of pride and Dwarven beauty.

Besides, it's hilarious when you bring in the second generation stuff. "Grandma Ingelill's beard tickles when she hugs me~" is outright adorable. I mean, this isn't something that I would consider joke-worthy. In fact, make fun of a Dwarven woman having a beard, she's liable to cut you head off. Do you see my position?

Now what do people think of the story itself?

>>21979549
Not nearly half of TeeGee forces will be in the Shire. Only about 1000 TeeGee personnel (plus two long range artillery pieces) will be there. The Dwarves will pick up most of the slack with an entire Legion of their Centurions.
>>
>>21979735
alternatively, we see her with, and without, her ceremonial false beard.

My idea is that dwarves use beards as a kind of "Kilt" on ceremonial occasions, such as battle, they wear a beard braided to be specific to their clan, which is why they wear them outside of battle. Being able to grow a long beard is a convience and a mark of skill in battle (cause you have it attached to your face), but false ones to extend the size are perfectly acceptable.
>>
>>21979735
But you will be in the Shire. You've said so yourself multiple times. And at the same time, you are in the Tavern with everyone else. So unless you decide to take a vacation, which seems to be very un-Lem-like thing to do, you'll be creating a paradox.
>>
>>21979884
But doesn't that cheapen the beard? Even an Elf can weave hair into a false beard, but it takes a Dwarf, a proper Dervikhim, to grow one. What's your issue with beardopause that makes it unacceptable to you? I want to hammer this one out because this was a pretty easy to figure out back in thread 24.

>>21979944
That might happen at any time during 7AA, while the war doesn't actually start until late summer/early fall of that year and the TeeGee coalition doesn't actually mobilize until mid-autumn. The Battle for Shire River doesn't happen until spring of the following year. Plus, I can see some level of troop rotation, this would probably include commanders. I mean, Kikki is preggers during this, so of course he's going to be returning to TeeGee periodically.

>>
>>21980240

>>
>>21980240
Ehn, I'm okay with it now, it's just.

Okay, so Fearghaile, let's put you in my position for a moment. Let's say that somethign that was very, radically, different about the Kanim culture and phisiology came up from a minor detail that you missed (3 posts does not make it "figured out') from an earlier thread, and suddenly you're having to reevaluate how you write the character because of that. Because of what was suggested, you even have to consider "would I have even made the character in the first place considering this?"

You're going to be on the defensive immediately. Especially against the person who suggested it. No matter how reasonable their suggestions. It feels like a violation.

That's my position here. I missed a tiny detail, and suddenly, I have to reconsider the character because of it, yeah, it's not apparently a big detail, but let's not kid ourselves, I'm not the one going "Kikki will eventually grow something that would make her physically unnattractive to her writer." I'd be less miffed if I wasn't the first person with a Dwarven waifu on my character list, but there you go.
>>
>>21979525
Technically I'm very involved. But no, GearHeart is limited to dealing with the Orc part of this story. Which I plan to getting to after I finish the Boss's part.
>>
>>21982027
This is becoming like the dragon thing. Most of it happened outside of threads, and then someone mentions it inside and now there's more people against it.
>>
>>21982158
Which is why anything decided outside of the threads, and not written in either the source documents, or the wiki, really shouldn't be canon.

>>
>>21982397
I don't think it's been finished.
>>
>>21982419
So? This is a world building thread. Post the general ideas. Get approval from people on them, write stories about them, if people like them, they'll say so. THEN compile them.

The vampire thing was written as a story first then posted. But people liked the gun runner thing better so they went with that. The vampires might be dropped entirely as a long term villain of any sort, we might choose a different direction, that's the FUN of all this. New people should get in on it and we should make it as easy as possible for them to do so, or we might as well just do what the asshats have suggested in the past and move to a real forum.
>>
>>21982478
Point. Someone else will have to post it, cause I have no clue where it is anymore.
>>
>>21982027
Well, here's the thing, you don't have to reconsider how you write her. The whole beard thing is entirely physical and a normal part of Dwarven society and life. She might take it as a sign of growing older, but by then Jistin will probably have passed away, as we have already discussed. There is literally nothing different about Ingelill. Except a beard, and this beard is accepted as normal and positive. You don't have to reevaluate how you write her, just that these things happen. If such a random physiological thing were to happen so late in Kikki's life, aside from Lem knowing EXACTLY what he was getting into by that time, he'd accept it, because he loves his waifu, one way or another. Besides, he'd probably be too old to care downstairs by this point anyway.

What you MIGHT want to reconsider if you haven't already is that Ingelill might live to 165-190 years of age and how that might change her relationship to Heteros in the long-term as he'll literally only be around when she's young, but Dwarves being long-lived is a typical assumption. That's more radical than any unwanted hair grown.

>>21982397
I agree, I'll get to posting the Forward and Chapter 1 then.

Collected Essays on Marriage and Weddings, a textbook by Thai, Fearhaile, et al

Foreword

This book aims to aid readers in learning the proper protocol when attending weddings or unions both abroad, and in TeeGee. As many of you are aware, this nation is a melting pot of various cultures, so you’re best not to be, as to take from the old realm “the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral”. Inside you will find a collection of essays which have the information proven to be useful and or insightful in the ceremonies or situations that have occurred. Though not all races and or locations are covered, only the ones which we were able to draw a significant amount of information from, we do hope that this book will be useful to you.

Marital Practices by Race and Location

Chapter 1: Mirthterrah

Having the largest human population on the Continent, Mirthan religion is dominated by their Kingdom’s namesake god, Myrthter, the Iron God. Most of the faith revolves around purity of the soul and body, and as such, sexuality is often deemed taboo. To those who have studied Old Realm history, the Mirthan faith most resembled Christianity on the European continent during the feudal period (for those not in the know, consult Outrealm Mythology volume III).

While there is a strong theme of “loving” one’s spouse and the benevolence that entails, very few but the poorest serfs can enjoy such marriages. More often, couples are wed due to political or financial alliances, or some other reason outside the power of the couple (though usually the woman). This is why virginity among unmarried women and girls is so very important in the upper class, and as such, one must not under any circumstances accept a noble Mirthan woman’s advances without her family’s explicit approval lest you find yourself in chains awaiting execution at best, or causing an international incident at worst. Virginity is of extremely high political and sometimes monetary value and fornication, sodomy, and adultery out of wedlock is in fact outlawed in the realm. This is not to say that such things do not happen and are not ultimately ignored in many settings, but that subject is outside the scope of this essay.

Even the suspicion of such activities can create problems, as with Sir Andrew in the 4AA Renwald Incident (Fearghaile 6AA). As TeeGee accepts and even encourages things that the Mirthan Church considers highly taboo, perception may be biased against you. This is doubly so if you happen to not be human. Their strict adherence to purity, on top of their discrimination against non-humans, means that any relationship between nobility and the errant non-human Harem Knight is nigh impossible.

Since we have covered the basics of Mirthan sexual morals, we now have context for their marital rights. The predisposition of the number two (two hands, one that holds mercy, the other that holds righteous strength, two eyes, two Prophets, two books of scripture, two is the lowest prime number, etc.) accurately predicts a hard monogamous culture. Every part of the ceremony is the idea of two becoming one and thus has no place for polygamy in the sects found in the Kingdom of Mirthterrah.

Exceptions exist in the Free Kingdoms, which still largely worship Myrthter with a smattering of other minor deities and a growing population of those who worship the Serridian god. There exist in some traditions where polygamy is accepted both ways, and though they still focus on physical and spiritual purity, more esoteric rites seem to suggest that this is older than the current Mirthan rites of Two into One.

The ceremony is somber and serious, but straightforward. The local community congregates in their finest clothing at the near house of worship where the couple to be exchange vows. These are surprisingly egalitarian, as both men and women have to say the same vows of devotion and service to the other. And then they have a feast. The parents are expected to come together to provide for the ceremony, though it often falls almost exclusively on the Bride’s family in order to impress the groom. Dowries are usually used to pay for this, so wedding a daughter often has very little initial monetary gain for the family. The couple are then given a room to themselves, made as lavish as could be afforded, and they consummate. If it is a virgin woman being wed, traditionally, the sheets on the bed are white as to make a confirmation via blood from the torn hymen.

There are stories of droit de seigneur, or “the lord’s right” where an Earl or a Duke or even a Jarl consummates with the bride of any of his serfs on her wedding night. This is largely false. Openly associating with women of low birth, no matter how attractive, is generally frowned upon. In addition, such an act is technically against the Canon of the Church, and as thus only takes one wayward confession to call in the inquisition. Nobles instead tend to take on their Serf’s attractive offspring as concubines and maids, preferring their forbidden relationships behind closed doors. It should be common sense not to ask about this either because most often if a Lord is keeping mistresses it is out of the public eye.

The Mirthan wedding ceremony is held in TeeGee, and there are Mirthan Missionaries who live here as well, but they are considered on a short leash. They must watch their tongue with concern to the non-human races that their words might lead to action. Because of their rather hard line on non-human/human interaction, their popularity is very small, most of their TeeGee based congregation tends to leave after the rites end and the preaching begins. That said, there is a growing emphasis on Myrthter’s Hand of Mercy rather than Hand of Iron, with a few locals becoming clergy. One missionary church even married a Human and his Elven waifu recently (though when the church got word, the lot were summarily excommunicated).

If you wish to observe a Myrthan wedding first hand, do remember to be respectful. While you may disagree with their xenophobic practices and teachings, drawing the ire of Myrthter’s Church is more trouble than it’s worth.

>Nobles instead tend to take on their Serf’s attractive offspring as concubines and maids
Remind me to give such a noble an ass whipping in a story sometime. Don't worry, I'll make him think I'm a servant of a rival or something, so there'll be no diplomatic incident.

All right you thread people. Lem is telling me that Teegee's council owns the means of production. For you who aren't all that big with Marx, that's Socialism. I thought we were the good guys, and from all the buyinig and selling and stores we have had so far, I thought we were Capitalist. Tell me what you people think.
>>
>>21986771
Heavily against council owning means of production. If they control the means of production, then any economic freedoms we have are only lip service.
>>
>>21986771

...isn't that kinda, what's the word for it, controlling of the trade?

The Boss would barely have gotten aboveground if that was the actual case.

Not to mention even more tech-based rebellions in TG. We've seen guns, but what about radio, the press, modern medicine, and cosmetics?

The number of explosives alone...
>>
>>21986820
Also under the means of production that can and does include the working class people.
>>
>>21986820
Barely aboveground? Anyone from /k/ would have had a field day at this, and would have provided vast amounts of support just to make sure they might have an advantage.
>>
>>21986841
Not to mention that Marx himself said that for innovation nothing matches Capitalism.
>>
>>21986771
>>21986841
Thanks for twisting my words. I meant for our major industries such as Aluminum. Any potentially destructive technology is regulated by TeeGee as a State Secret, along with every technology that gives us a competitive edge (ie, Aluminum production).

So no, radios, guns, and mundane explosives would stay out of trade systems. Meanwhile, modern medicine and cosmetics would totally make it into trade with other nations, though the means of producing these items might be closely guarded.

This is entirely for economic reasons to protect TeeGee's position in the world and maximize leverage in international influence. This has nothing to do with any interest to control or rule over people. This is to do with cementing TeeGee security in a very chaotic world.
>>
>>21987398
dungeonfag: It does not own all, but also owns a portion of Silk production as well, from investments, though does not tightly regulate it. But pretty much every piece of psuedo-modern technology produced by TeeGee that might cause social problems, TeeGee DOES tightly regulate it, such as guns and related technology.
Basically, most TeeGee tech from the Old Realm is considered a "State Secret" and the means of production are closely guarded.

dungeonfag: Taking technology like Guns and producing them outside of TeeGee regulations falls under espionage charges.

That is what you said and does not mean the same as >Any potentially destructive technology is regulated by TeeGee as a State Secret, along with every technology that gives us a competitive edge (ie, Aluminum production).
>>
>>21987398
Ah. What you are speaking of is regulation.

I'm relatively fine with that, just make sure we're allowed to do whatever. As for industries such as aluminum, I feel that the council should only control industries that it makes itself, and to ensure that it does not use taxation income to permit it to run at a deficit until the industries others make are gone, I vote that any such industries are only allowed to be small scale, and only to be used to trade with high level foreigners to get as much of their money as possible.
>>
>>21987663
Which is a option I suggested to Lem and he turned down. I am fine with that.
>>
>>21987685
Forbid export of tech. I'm OK with this. Heck, all we have to do then is to make sure we have strictly enforced littering and recycling laws to prevent anything from getting out.
>>
>>21987720
Sure, the exportation of such tech from Teegee is perfectly fine.
>>
>>21987759
Meant to say outlawing the exportation of such tech from Teegee is perfectly fine.

>>
>>21987887
Suggested amendment to the article of the gentlemen.

The exportation of restricted tech of destructive means or council owned production from Teegee is regarded as an act of espionage and is punishable as such.

Such restricted tech is that of:
Firearms
Aluminum
(Throwout suggestions here for other restricted tech)

Textbooks from the old realm (Not likely we'd give them up anyway due to their extreme value, but we can't risk even a textbook on philosophy).
>>
>>21988072
I would argue especially not that. We don't need them going crazy philosopher. If your are not careful then you can lose touch with reality.
>>
>>21988117
I'm okay with regulation of this stuff. I thought the articles already covered that.

Also gotta agree with the keeping out philosophy texts, otherwise we'll get events like the rebellions in the Drageran novels where the leader of a mass rebellion found ancient works on why slavery, feudalism, racism, etc.etc. were all stupid plans, but there was no possible way the rebellion could take hold beyond getting loads of people killed due to things like affirmative action not WORKING against magically powerful, feudalistic, 'racially superior' technomagical china-elves who honestly don't give a fuck about killing normal humans and even their own "farmer caste" members to maintain control. (Imagine a bunch of pesants trying the whole Ghandi tactics in 700 AD europe or china.)
>>
Maybe some of the basic stuff like Aristotle, and on the nature of the Universe. Anything about freedom is going to take a while to get them used to the idea, and it will require a better educated populace anyway (or at least a weakening of the control of their government)
>>
>>21988359
pretty much.

The reason the whole "go and force democracy on the middle east" thing just has never worked is that, by and large, their populaces were not ready for it. Neo-Conservatism will never function because you can't force freedom onto people, they have to not only want it as a populace, but be ready to earn it. That's why the middle east going democratic with the Arab Spring is a turning point, it shows large portions of the populace ready to make and embrace that change.

We could certainly promote that theory, feeding people basics of science, hygene, and medicine, things to make them less dependent upon church and state and to expand because of it. But it'll take the advent of gunpowder as almost unbiquitous, the power to basically say "FUCK YOU PREDATORS" and "FUCK YOU BANDITS" that'll truly make a person nondependent upon a higher social power.
>>
>>21988359
Oh god, I just realized what I said. There is only one thing to do. Send out missionary teachers to make them literate.
>>
>>21988408
The problem with the Arab Spring is that they mostly elected people who are probably going to be worse than what they already had.
>>
>>21988437
Teething issues are to be expected. the French went through that, and ended up working out okay. So will most of the Arab countries. The best we can do is provide medical support, help refugees, persecute war crimes and crimes against humanity, and let them work it out. Any outside intervention is just going to go horribly wrong. Cold War proved that.

>>21988421
Agreed. They send us Missionaries, we send Teachers.
>>
>>21988251
When I wrote the articles I only said that the market would have limited regulation, I did not say how so or on what. This is a clarification. And it is needed as we don't want the council going out of control do we?

>>
>>21988421
One small problem.

Did we ever figure out if we could read the languages they use?

Middle English is a far different beast to Modern English, not to mention what the "lolwizard" translation spell did to people whose native tongue WASN'T English.

Unless we pull some TARDIS level stuff out, I'm having a hard time believing it didn't just rewrite our language and thought centers.

eg. Outlander X speaks English to native Y, they hear Native-ese. Outlander Z speaks Russian? Chinese? French?

So, what? Some sort of Department of Prohibition or Censorship? Shall we abandon the facade entirely and just call the DMs Onii-chan?

>>21988477
So...turn TG into Prester John or Shamballa?

It's either that or go a conquerin', and by then we've all got blood on our hands and on our tongues.

>Interestingly, I've been writing on everything BUT the next Journal piece proper.
>>
>>21988510
Its called arc fatigue
>>
>>21988510
You know, I still don't agree with the whole "magically knows the local languages" thing. I think that making the Common Trade language roughly equivalent to English would make everything much simpler. I've already begun to explain this through the Dwarven language basically being Latin and if the Human languages are Norse/Germanic, possibly an archaic version of French based on a vulgate of Dwarven Not-Latin, the Kanin written language is Gaelic, Gnomish and Halfling tongues might resemble Romantic languages, like Spanish or French Creole, and then you have your Persian/Arabic-alikes in Serrid. And there you have it: the necessary parts to amalgamate and create Not-English which we English speakers can roughly understand.

Thoughts? That's mostly how I've been writing it, but it's less obtuse than "A wizard did it" and lets us keep English without needing magic to understand people. Yeah, I know it's a bit of a stretch, but no worse than magic, plus that becomes problematic if ever the magic wears off.
>>
>>21990168
I was imagining the Halflings as speaking more towards Irish or Welsh, but I can work with Romantic languages (somewhat).

As I recall, some people have written about their character having some trouble being understood for just that reason. I feel that makes the story a bit more realistic, and I am in favor of us keeping it that way.
>>
>>21990168
I thought we agreed on us not really knowing the language, but being able to understand it and be understood because of it, similar to how demons speak. Throwing in actual languages instead of just regional accents seems like complexity added for its own sake this far in.
>>
>>21993680
I'm with Artorias on this
>>
>>21990168

Uh, French is a Romance language. Languages with a predominantly Latin language are considered Romance languages. An archaic French would be something even closer to Latin, as the French that we know today, IIRC, was something of the result of French aristocrats taking a whole bunch of scholars and telling them to make the French language even fancier. Stupid, I know, but this was evidently from the period prior to the French Revolution, where such dickery seems to have been in fashion.

The consequence of this would be that you have two/three groups, the Dwarves, Gnomes, and Halflings, all separated by a somewhat large geographical distance speaking languages that are very close to each other. Which doesn't make much sense unless they've historically had a lot of contact with each other, or there was some prior influence, like a Rome, that conquered them and got them to speak a common language in the past.

Though I thought it was established early on that English is "close enough" to some kind of Common language already in use?
>>
>>21995068
It was. And since there were at least three empires before the human one its entirely possible that there was a rome like influence.
>>
>>21995105
Demon, Dragon, Elf wasn't it?
>>
>>21992167
Halflings are deep south flavored as much as they're standard Hobbit flavored. Some kind of Creole I think would really suit them.

>>21993680
>>21993926
Well, we didn't really ever agree on it. Some people wrote about how it was MAGICAL TRANSLATION SPELL and others, such as I, have written about how languages in this world were roughly equivalent to others, like with how the Dwarven tongue resembles Latin.

>>21995068
Historically, yes, the Gnomes, Halflings, and Dwarves have had contact, from before the humans even. And yes, I thought so too, but apparently other people thought otherwise.

>>21995181
The Elf era wasn't so much of an empire as a society. They were actually pretty peaceful before humans came along, as evidenced by the Drow.
>>
>>21995208
I thought the elves were kinda totaletarian against the humans, and thus laid the seeds for the whole anti-nonhuman religion? Not to mention how their society went down the pipe following the disasters of the dragon wars and stuff involving the vampires and such.
>>
>>21995240
That's what the humans will tell you. It's just a slight bit more complicated than that. That includes the anti-demihuman religion. As with many things, it's good intentions twisted to unfortunate results.
>>
>>21995208
Interesting. Has there been any explanation as to how they stopped being peaceful?
>>
>>21995208
You and Clover are the only two I can think of. And Clovers creatures are very alien and not from the surface world.

society empire same difference for this, they ruled.

>>21995331
No, Lem just wants his peacenik drow.

>>21995240
Yep this, though Lems argument about multiple sides to the story and perspective and the winners rewriting history and all that has some point.

>>21995290
Lem, logically the anti-demihuman religion would come after the elves treated people like crap.

>Pic is Abe in costume.

It was two weeks later when Manwell and Jacko had completed their missions. Abe had called an emergency meeting, it was such a big deal that he had interrupted the Boss’s family game night. Abe saw his life flash before his eyes when Boss looked at him and nearly had a heart attack when Wyona gave him the evil eye. But within the hour all were gathered once more.

“Ok, listen up. Abe has some important news.” The Boss said, all business as the others took their seats.

Abe sighed, took in a deep breath and started to talk. “We have major problems, Manwell is fucked in the head, Jacko got wounded, also Whit had a heart attack and died.”

“Fuck.” Everyone else said in unison.

“Ok, everyone don’t get your panties in a twist-”

“That would be hard as I don’t have any sir.” Piko interrupted, a sly smile forming on her face, she slid on over into Jake’s lap. The Boss shot Jake a look, clearly saying that he should control his woman.

Jake whispered into Piko’s ear, “Honey, not now. Boss is not in the mood.” Piko looked as if she was thinking for a second then she just leaned her head against Jake’s chest.

“Like I was saying. We can handle this, cut manwell lose. Get a replacement for and we keep Jacko, give him a better gun. Whit we leave as is, we don’t need a in on the council anymore.”
>>
>>21995540
“We offing Manwell?” Jez asked, her eyes like that of a shark and her voice cold and uncaring as ice.

“No, a crazed murder bat, will more than spice things up, and draw the attention away from us. Sides, another exploding Teegeeian would be suspicious. Also just had an idea, Abe have one of the mooks under you, the Serrid ones, go and put a round in Whits heart.”

“Spinning it? Got it Boss, will do.” Abe said, visibly more positive than he had been just seconds ago. His faith in the Boss reinforcing his moral.

As Abe was going out the door, Boss spoke once more. “Make sure its a mook you don’t like.”

Abe paused for a second, processing what the Boss had said. “Right, laundry day. Put out a towel or two to dry.” The Boss nodded, and with that Abe closed the door behind him.

Pic is Jake but Jake looks a bit younger.

Abe walked down to the hideout of of a bunch of Serrid radicals he had managed to turn, humming a jaunty tune all the way. He activated the disguise ring that Jez had made for him, and he went from looking like a normal person to a one eye psychopathic business man in a cheap suit. Upon arriving he rapped out the pattern of shave and a haircut on the door. A seedy looking Serrid man opened the door cautiously. The first words out of his mouth were in his native tongue but they translate roughly as, “Oh fuck the Calliph may he never have to go far for a good time, Jarborn, that fucking devil with only one eye is back and he is smiling like the lucky virgins blessed to be broken in by the Calliph’s never ending cock.” A man wearing nothing but a bedsheet came to the door behind him, he responded in the same jabbering way. “Should we shoot him and feed his guts to the goats?” The first man, who had never looked away from Abe’s eye patch cover eye said out of the side of his mouth, all the while giving a big fake smile, “No, it would just make him angry.” He then switched to common as it is called and said in a overly false friendly way “Mr. Cypher, what can I do for you? To you?”

“Gentlemen, I have one last job for you two, then you shall be free of the contract. All you have to do is follow the instructions on this here paper. Do it right and you're home free.”

The man in the bed sheet tried to pull the other man back in the house. “Forget him Hilbof, we go inside and resume sea battle.”

The one Serrid wearing clothes looked back to the other man, then back to Abe. “Fuck you. We do it.”

>This is Robert

That very night two Serrid terrorists broke into a council members home and shot him in the heart repeatedly, within minutes the Homeguard was on their heels, seconds later the two were down, arrows intersecting their paths. All the guard got out of them was gurgling as they choked on their own blood escaping from their mouths. The senior most guard said to his partner, who may have had a thing for him, “Drat, Kelly what have I told you about shooting people in the neck, we can’t interrogate them if you do that.” Which he said in a tone of voice that clearly communicated the fact that he was happy she did, but technically they were supposed to at least try and catch bad guys first.

“Sorry sir, next time I will aim below the belt in order to only wound him.”

“I swear if you say anything about knees.”

“Knees? I was thinking a touch higher than that.” She said giving him a feral grin.

“Should have know, women, they always aim for the balls.”

“Really?”

“Yep, all the women I’ve ever known.”

And like that she kneed him in between the legs. He fell to the ground hands between his legs.

“What the hell was that for?”

“You said all the women you had known.”

“That wasn’t an invitation.”

“Jerk!” She shouted and stomped off.

The only thing on guardsmans Eric’s mind was, “da fuq?” After the pain subsided, he pulled himself to his feet. “Great, now I need to take care of two dead bodies and figure out what’s got her panties in a bunch. Fucking rabbit girls, bunch of tsundere psychopaths.”

>This is what Whit looked like

A time later, after the burial ceremony for DM Whitaker was a week past the gang did gather once again. They were sitting around their usual game of shadowrun. Maps, charts, and chalkboards scattered everywhere. Piles of dice laying about, and a stack of books almost five feet tall all crowded the living room of Abe and Jez Gamblin. To most anyone this looked just like another group of friends getting together for some traditional gaming, and it was. But business would come up, as that was the whole point. A convenient cover to meet and plan. Thing was, Jez kept falling asleep, head clonking on the table as they played.

Frank looked up from behind his GM partition thing a mobob. “Abe, is she alright? Do we need to get a healer?”

“Nah, she’s fine, just has a stomach flu is what she says.”

“Abe.”

“Yah Boss?”

“You’re a dumbass.” Frank said facepalming hard.

“What?”

“That’s what they always say.”

Piko stopped building a castle out of d6’s long enough to say, “Yep.”

Abe looked to Piko and then back to Frank and then to his wife. “What am I missing.”

>Add squirrel ears and tail and this is Piko.

Jake spoke up next, as the others were too busy laughing. “When a wiseguy loves a dragon a lot, then eventually they go to the store and pick out an egg. This egg hatches into a little baby dragon and then the two become parents. And the mommy and daddy raise the baby.”

Abe threw a pillow at Jake, catching him square in the face with a resounding “PWOMPH”. “You guys really think so?”

“There’s a bowl of crawfish covered in cheese and garlic sitting in front of her, she’s tired, and claims to have a stomach flu. One of these things is not like the others.” Piko chimed.

“What the hell do I do?”

“Well first you get a healer to take a look at her, then if we are right then we celebrate, provided that we are right.”

Piko jumped up out of her seat, jumped over Abe and Jez on the couch and ran to the door, she threw the door open, shouting out, “I’m a go and get a healer. Be back in a few minutes.” She was out of sight in a flash.

“Well then, I guess the game is on hold until we get this answered.”

War changes people, some more than others, for better or worse.

>>21995449
Logically. But humans aren't always logical.

The anti-demihuman policies of the Mirthan Kingdoms come from Human scripture which interpreted said humanity should hold dominion over non-humans. Now this "Hold dominion over" could also be translated from the Old Tongue as "Watch over" or "Protect", and was often used in the same scripture to describe Myrthter's relation to Humans, though some things are lost in translation it seems. It is unclear as to whether this interpretation became dominant before, after, or during the Elfish-Human Wars, but no verifiable records exist from the time period and both sides will claim otherwise.

Is this an acceptable explanation?

Well except for the people who were there. But still its better/more believable if both sides were wrong. Elves were assholes and the Humans went to far and went corrupted from misinterpreting their texts.
>>
>>21996035
I like the "Protect" translation myself. Given that, there's probably a few sects of that part of the religion that are springing up around Teegee. We should encourage this.
>>
>>21996320
Yep, no problem with the protect translation theoretically.
>>
>>21996115
This took place a good 3-4 thousand years ago. This was Greece vs. Persia style fighting, not medieval armies. No one is alive from those times, not even any Dwarven Mystics who sometimes experience several Dwarven lifetimes. It's an old, old conflict, and Mirthterrah has actually gone through many different forms, the most recent being the High Kingdom. This was when there were still Dwarves in the Iron Ranges. Midyas was in fact built on top of a long abandoned Dwarven outpost in the low hills before the mountain range.

In either case, I like to think a small minority of humans were assholes, some Elves kneejerked and associated all humans with those assholes and were assholes back, assholery escalated over time and broke into war/scripture propaganda. The Elves got their asses kicked by the stronger, faster breeding humans, and the damage was done.

>>21996320
Yes actually. The See of Mercy has the most presence in TeeGee, and focuses on some of the more benevolent interpretations. However, they're still beholden to the current Church's canon, and thus must maintain Human supremacy practices if it doesn't want to have to deal with the Inquisition.
>>
>>21996388
We're a foreign power. The inquisition has no legal authority here, and any acts they may do here will be prosecuted under the same laws that anyone who tried to act against them would be prosecuted by.
>>
>>21996388
Dragons, Demons, Fey, and other Immortals.

But, still the humans being assholes makes zero sense really as the ruling ELVES would kill them. It makes more sense if the elves started it.

>>21996418
Which is why I'm for killing them all and letting whoever sort them out.
>>
>>21996449
Can't kill them without provocation. That would make us both as bad as them and true enemies of the kingdom.
>>
>>21996465
I never said without provocation. "Hey the inquisition is spying on our people and killing people. Welp time to kill them all"
>>

>>
>>21996418
But if the Church excommunicates them, they lose their authority in many respects. Most will break off and repent. Protestant-style sects don't last very long either for a number of different reasons that don't have much to do with the Inquisition, though they might use "legal" means to squeeze these churches.

>>21996449
What did I say before? The Elves didn't exactly "rule" like an Empire. They were more like wardens. Concepts of property were vague. Humans waltz in from the western coast and start moving east, begin integration, but after some time, tensions rise. The fault of these tensions are up in the air, but in the end, the Human won out, for better or worse.
>>
>>21996540
I could write something, anything. I'm overdue for a story here anyways.
>>
>>21996655
Lem your the only one who thought that I'm pretty sure. I would argue that "wardens" is worse. What are the other races animals to be corralled and controlled? I don't really care as long as both sides are wrong/assholes what ever.
>>
>>21996655
>though they might use "legal" means to squeeze these churches
I read this sentence and thought, "surely the judges we have in Teegee are smarter than this", my mind raced, and now I'm imagining a common sense/rule of law favoring judge who throws things out because he's too busy being delicious.

Hey guys, I just checked out the 1d4chan page about harem knights, and I have a few questions about how sensate magic works. I'm sorry if this has already been adressed, but with over 40 pages, it's going to take me a while to get through it.

Sensate magic appears to only work with elements like fire and electricity, is this the intentional limit? Could someone with a history of severe migranes inflict that pain on someone else? Does this work with emotion based sensations? Could someone with depression make others depressed? How about experiences with drugs? Could someone who has had a bad trip cause others to feel that?
>>
>>21998420
The answers to your questions is yes. A Whitch does that a lot.
>>
>>21998420
Yes. Sensate magic is all about the feelings you have. Most sensates tend to stay within a single branch and specialize. Here's a help right here.

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20953217/#p20962237

A Witch deals with it a lot.
>>
>>21998519
GearHeart would make a bad sensate there is only rage.
>>
>>21998519
>>21998550
Cook would make a weird sensate, there are so many songs and in-jokes.
>>
>>21998611
Right forgot about that. So Cook and GearHeart would be the equivalent of Cthulhu if we were sensates.
>>
>>21998550
Lilly wouldn't stop. Ever.
>>
>>21998661
Now there's a scary thought. There is no peace, only rape.
>>
>>21998649
>>21998661
That would make Lilly the Great Old One... or Shub-Niggurath.
>>
>>21998743
Wait, are there any sex/rape themed Old Ones? They generally seem too concerned with things that aren't rape.
>>
Migranomancer here again, are there any specific rules for creating a character in this setting or is it just free-form? I have a couple ideas, but I would like to know what is or isn't ok.
>>
>>22002492
Relatively freeform. Try not to trample over another person's canon, it starts arguments. Also avoid bows. Just trust me on that one. Remember that elves are jerks, Mirthterrah varies, and the Caliph (May his feet never smell) and Serrid are based off the ancient arabs.
>>
>>22002492
Beyond typical rules of literature, not really. Best recommendation I can give you is don't create a character with significant power or responsibility within currently existing circles without understanding EXACTLY what that means.

Basically, don't be a dick and step on other people's literary toes.

Roughly Medieval, but less military conquest, more trade focused. Why rule you when they can just take your money? Think a nation of oriental traders and you pretty much have Serrid.

So what do people think about an Order within the Knights that call themselves "Jedi"? They can be kind of like our warrior monks with two rules to mix it up: Poverty and Celibacy. I think it would make an interesting but still benevolent contrast to the rest of the Knights Harem. Would be interesting as well to see how far the commitment would take them with this in terms of narrative, kind of like how Thai sort of accidentally drank his way into marriage.

Either way, I'd kind of like to write about how Outrealmers would do the whole Ascetic thing. A band of Warrior Monks from TeeGee who wield light, magical swords and don only simple robes. Maybe make their names as mediators, though not necessarily political until later.

Only difference I see is that our Jedi don't have the force. Just make sure they're absolutely beholden to the rule of law (They've been receiving a lot of crap in the most recent books because they didn't stick around for trials or anything). Also make sure they know exactly what they're getting into, and have Silver train them on how to avoid the Fey, to prevent prophecies about chosen ones.
>>
>>22009192
No, no prophecies, but there's magic for the "force". I had even been toying with the idea of having them being minor practitioners of Mountaintongue, though limited only to pulling and pushing (in the original trilogy sense only) though I think that might cause Jim to have an aneurysm. Combined with some Bard-style Charm magic, you basically have Medieval Jedi.

There are tales in TeeGee about cape’n blade, of sword-swinging action and brave courage, given extra taste by spinklings of Love. This is not one of those histories. This is my history, that of Sir Miguel the Sword-Shy Knight of Hy’Brassel (the best rendition of my old world homeland’s name in this language, anyway. Also, why those people like people to be called “Title Name Adjective From Location X? Sure, let’s run with that, impresses the women), a weird journey through the saga of TeeGee and its people.

The tale begins when the original Outremer folk arrived, amongst them I, Sir Miguel, who by them had a different name from The Old World, know only by myself and a small piece of paper hidden in the right place, in case I ever needed someone to know my true name for some reason. It was a tough time, full of harsh suffering. The old world was a different place, where hard toil and constant fighting against the elements was something common only to poor nations and distant remote places. Even the climate was extra harsh on me, and it still is. My place of origin in the old world is a place of great rainforests, where only two seasons exist: Summer and winter, the former a season of strong-yet fast raining and Winter, which a tad colder but constantly rainy. Most of the Outremer folk come from temperate forests, with four seasons and similar climate to this place. So far I know not of a place with similar climate to my homeland, but perhaps I will relocate there eventually. Snow still comes off as a novelty to me anyway (frozen ice that falls from the sky? Weeeird…). Also, why the air is so dry? HUMIDITY, PLEASE!
>>
Althrough I only dare to divulge my origins for the few people intimate with me, it is enough to say that I am a far-far-distant descendant of a noble family from another country of the Old World, which fought for centuries to liberate themselves from the harsh dominion of a heathen faith, and eventually created a new nation on another continent, where the women were exotic, like here, and gladly delivered themselves into the arms of the new benevolent conquerors. Perhaps it is in the blood to like exotic women? We carry such a belief in the Old World to explain the tendency of kin to act similarly, which we call “Genetiks.” It is very complicated and only few scholars understand it. Some of the old world scholars theorized great magicks that could be harnessed from it, but that’s another tale. Too bad the Old World gave concern to noble heritage no longer, strange as it may seem here.

There were the elven attacks, about which better men than I told about, so I will only say that it was the early fighting against those pointy-eared rapists that I managed to overcome my inhibition of killing other sentient beings. Still don’t like it, even today, much better to befriend, love or trick, depending on target. Others (especially the knights of our Order that are from this very land) regard my tactics with suspicions of cowardice, but it was they which kept me alive in the unpredictable wave of oddities that which is life. Some of our enemies do deserve an arrow or bullets on their heads, but I prefer to pick thoroughly instead of shooting indiscriminately and possibly eliminating a soul capable of good. Totally rotten badguys get a bolt on the head through.

Artorias was sitting at home one day waiting on the rest of his family to get back from the market. He had a pot of something waiting by the fireplace, waiting for his wives to get back with the last few ingredients he would need, but while he waited he contented himself with studying.

He hated to admit it, but he couldn’t read either the trade languages or the writing of Mirtherrain scholars, something he was starting to regret now that he was already 35. He had loved reading in the old world, and he had to admit that in the winter months he missed it sometimes. Still though, it was more than a little embarrassing to just be learning this at his age.

The weather had been bitterly cold this season, almost as bad as the first winter had been, and the ground outside was covered in snow. For all his time in the Northern Reaches, the knight had never liked snow. It was beautiful to look at, to be sure, but he thought of it as something best viewed from afar instead of experienced. Thankfully, he had something planned for when the others came back that would warm everyone up.

When he was in the middle of writing out a few sentences, he heard the door open and the patter of little feet. “Daddy!” cried a little half-Karin child, latching onto her father’s side as soon as he set down his quill. “What you working on, daddy,” she asked curiously, looking up at her father with inquisitive eyes.

He picked her up and set her in his lap, marveling at how much she looked like her mother, same green eyes and blue-ticked hair, but with a slightly darker complexion like her father. It was hard to believe she was already three. “Well,” he explained, “daddy was trying to learn how to read while you, mommy, Auntie Bethany, and Auntie Melena were out shopping.”

“I still can’t believe you never learned how to read, Arty,” Melena called from the door, a few bags in her arms. “I thought you already knew how to do that anyway.”

“I can read and write in my native language just fine,” he said defensively, “I just can’t read the trade language, and don’t even get me started on these scribblings the Mirtherrians call writing.”

“I don’t know,” said Bethany, “I’ve seen the way you guys write. I’m surprised anyone can read it.”

“Well, I think it’s a good thing he’s finally learning,” said Karrigan. “Maybe now I can put him to work looking through trade manifests when he’s not busy.”

“Note to self: find more things to keep busy with,” he said.

“Daddy, you’re silly,” Amanda chimed in from her father’s lap.

So you know, the Trade language (at least how I've been writing it) is basically English. In written form, yeah, it has the archaic elements of Chaucer, but that's mostly because its written form isn't set in stone. Technically, modern American English could be deciphered by anyone who can read once you get the idea of the TeeGee local cant.
>>
When things got more established, I decided to sit back and stay on the guard. Someone got to protect the waifus of adventurers, after all. Astorias told us what to do; there was this guy and his two batgirls (Kipteria or something?) who watched from the air (note to self: In case of flying waifu, grab her good before flight), as a tech-curious person I often nagged the Fatwelder with demands for ranged weapons – I gained the “Sword-Shy” nickname during the fights with the Elves, when I found out my stocky and spry Amazonian (not Amazonian in the woman warrior sense) physique didn’t combine with sword-swinging (to constant derision from my allies), and picked a nice wooden short spear from a dead Elf, which made me much better at the whole thing. Still can’t thrown the spear or anything else worth shit, through, better remember that in case the scienceboyz or others gets us some grenades. I was warned in no uncertain terms by Sir Astorias to stay away from the Molotov Cocktails or else.
>>
It all started on Hope Day, the holiday commemorating the birth of the first newborn of TeeGee. Everyone was either drinking in a bar or making a party with their waifus and their children. Fun stuff... except for the poor guard who was on a watch.

One of my bosses told me to stay guarding a door in the deepths of Castle Waifu, which was allowed entrance to no one except a few people who knew the secret handshake, which was a Outreimer-only secret.

So there was I, spending a holiday in a hot and dark dungeon holding a spear like a statue. In heavy armor. Words could not describe my fury. Granted, I had no waifu or children, but damnit! They were playing a Warhammer 50K tournament on the tavern today! I wanted to watch and show them the power of GRAND SICARIUS! Someone recently started to make genuine Vodka and I could't take drinking beer anymore! At least they didn't give me a sword... again.

Because mysticism and "the power of the universe". They probably wouldn't actually gain any real traction until much later though, since they'd have to recruit capable Knights and actually train them in this sort of thing. They're probably gonna have a decently high turnover.

>>22019764
Well, as powerful as it CAN be, it's still not really more powerful than normal magic in actual practice. To actually train and meditate and will yourself into learning this takes much more time than learning a simple pull and push spell. The difference is that the power can deploy a bit faster, scale with willpower, and cast slightly more consistently. Being able to fight Demons and Fey is just a slight perk, but the Mirthans do that sort of thing just as effectively with a slightly more complicated combination divine magic and mundane alchemical effects. This isn't quite the Godmode you keep making it, even though the most powerful practitioners are just short of demi-gods, that's not MUCH different from the most powerful wizards.
>>
>>22019887
Normal Magic scales with willpower. And you can fight Fey and Demons with normal magic. So if the only difference is silgtly faster and more reliable then that's fine.

Hey, question. Okay, actually two.

First, would anyone mind if Warforged (magic robots, whatever) are introduced? Strictly in the, "these guys are kind of around, nobody alive that we know has any idea where they come from or how to make them" kind of deal?

And second, naming conventions for new species. For those of you who've introduced a unique species, how do you come up with a name for them? I'm torn between using twisted biology classification names and using some nonsensical word for naming the mouse people I plan to introduce.

And by nonsensical word, I mean something that just "sounds" like it's something from their language. Kind of like how "Jawa" and "Ewok" sound like words those respective buggers would actually use in their language.
>>
>>22020063
I've used both. I find taking the classification and twisting it til it sounds like nonsensical words works best.

As for Warforged, beat you to it.
Vault from Dragon City was one.
>>
>>22020063
>First, would anyone mind if Warforged (magic robots, whatever) are introduced? Strictly in the, "these guys are kind of around, nobody alive that we know has any idea where they come from or how to make them" kind of deal?
eeeeeeeeeeeehn....

Not feeling it. But hey, then again, somebody out there will have a sapient golem waifu I'm sure.
>>
>>22020063
They don't really seem to fit the setting as it is, those Warforged.

The only things like it so far are the Gnomes purported Clock Guard wind up things, the Magic golems that are either too simple or driven mad, the Sentinels of Obsidos and that's all that's been seen or heard of.

As for the Mouse people, why so hard on the Jawa and Ewok scene? Must this race be as much vermin and scavenger as their animal counterparts? Don't limit your imagination, but keep it linkable to the concept of "there goes a short person with mouse ears and possibly whiskers and a tail".
>>
>>22020223
Yeah what Clover said about the either too simple or go mad thing. Vault was five different flavors of fruitcake.
>>
>>22020198
>>22020200

Didn't consider a highly advanced animatronic to be a Warforged.

But it sounds like introducing one won't be a problem then.
>>
>>22020276
Do you even lift?
>Yeah what Clover said about the either too simple or go mad thing. Vault was five different flavors of fruitcake.

Also explain to me the difference between a animatronic with real AI and a war forged.
>>
>>22020223

Not really hard on the Jawa/Ewok thing, it was just the first thing that came to mind when concerning names. Though I decided rather early on that these people were, due to living in the Frozen North, would be nomadic and very scavenger-esque.

Again, the idea was that they're living in the large ruins of a "highly advanced" civilization that started and ended because Wizards do not understand right and wrong. So finding a not-warforged chilling out there didn't seem too much of a stretch.
>>
>>22020335
>large ruins of a "highly advanced" civilization
Yeah, this is what we have problems with. Also, the Frozen North only has ancient Elven barrows. It wouldn't make sense for them to live up there unless they were to the western parts of the north? Eskimo mice-folk seem fine, but remember what I said: KEEP IT SIMPLE, STUPID.
>>
>>22020664

Western parts of the north? Sure. Someone suggested an expedition to the North, and that seemed as good as any place to start.

And quotes for "highly advanced" for a reason. Probably more along the lines of by-now-mostly-useless-magitech and things that really aren't likely to be well understood to someone not familiar with the basics. Which would make the scavenger culture of the mice folk make more sense.

It was intended that their understanding of the technology and doodads up there to be somewhat primitive, even among the TeeGee expedition. Like, they understand that if you do X with Y, you get Z, and that you shouldn't do A to B otherwise B doesn't work anymore. But exactly how Y and B work is a mystery, as well as their intended functions.
>>
>>22020777
It's more to the idea of "lost civilization in a frozen north that was always frozen". It's stupid, inane, and done before already in this setting. Let's avoid it if and when possible. If anything it just needlessly complicates things that don't have to be complicated. Mysterious Elven barrows are puzzling enough.

Eskimo Mouse-folk living in the northwestern tundra. They trade with the Kanin via sea and the Dwarves via land. Their main products would be fish and furs. Their diet consists of fatty tundra grazers, fish, and some root vegetables. Semi-nomadic, but mostly keep to the coasts. Some small communities exist in the northern reaches of the Kanin ruled Snarltooth Isles. Occasionally have problems with Unseel of the Winter Hunt coming up from the frozen marshes, which is where their relationship with the Kanin (who act as mediators) come in. Sound workable?
>>
>>22021217

Workable? Yes.

Will I do it? No, because at this point, you've already done it for me.

And the whole "frozen north" deal isn't really critical to what I had in mind. It could just as easily be in the south, or in the far east. I initially wanted to avoid those directions because someone already did some kind of Gnoll expedition to the south, and directly to the east there's elven lands, plus some other stuff that's already been fleshed out to some degree that I'm not too familiar with.

I'm more interested in fleshing out the scavenger-centered culture of the mouse people. Large ruins of a somewhat advanced civilization that always seem to have stuff to scavenge is only required to foster that culture. I don't really have much interest in making the ruins mysterious or puzzling, or having the expedition go in and dungeon dive. Again, I'm more interested in fleshing out that culture, and the whole "wizard did it" is intended to make the ruins less mysterious and more "something that's there."

I think a good analogy might be the setting for STALKER. Yeah, you've got the crazy-ass mystery of Chernobyl and that, but for the most part, the locals are more interested in surviving and making money and couldn't really care about said mystery.

Do you get what I'm driving at?
>>
>>22021710
Yes, but that doesn't really fit the aesthetic of the setting. See, when you worldbuild, the pieces have to fit together, and when you want to make a new people that fit a new niche, you have to consider why that niche is there in the first place. Having a random society of Wizards in the northern tundras seems on one level nonsensical, on another level something that would be very hard to scavenge, and on yet another level something that's wouldn't last very long. You can have your semi-nomadic rodent-people, but the way you have this set up seems very isolated and impractical, not to mention in conflict with the aesthetic of the setting.

Okay, now that I got that last story out of my system, it's time to write something else.
>>
>>22021710
I think the main problem he has is the highly advanced part. Most likely wrong though. My recommendation, would be to have the whole thing under the ice and just tone back on the highly advanced part to keep some what with the setting. One thing that might make sense is that it was demons or dragons that made the ruins, that way it could be really old and have the really odd stuff to scavenge. Just my two cents though.

Well that's a part of it, but it's also that the idea isn't self-sustaining. See, scavenging only works as long as there are things to scavenge. Since this "lost civilization" is being scavenged to sustain a community, eventually, the source would run out. Consider, the Chernobyl disaster happened in 1986, and 17 years later, the first STALKER game takes place in 2003. Less than 20 years later, the Chernobyl area is pretty much picked clean of everything valuable or useful. Now for these Mice-folk, it wouldn't just be 20 years since people started exploring here, it would be closer to 2000 years.

If these Mice Folk lived somewhere before and just moved north, where was it they moved from? Why did they leave? Are there any of their kind left back there? And why did they give up whatever they did to sustain themselves for a way of life as unsustainable as scavenging? If these Mice people are a race, they must have a history, and if they're all scavengers of this lost city in the frozen north, then eventually they would run out of stuff to scavenge, and thus their entire way of life would collapse. It just doesn't make any narrative sense, no matter how adorable mousy STALKERs are.
>>
>>22025293
You have a point of course, but I think he could answer all that. As for the picked clean part, maybe they are wandering types and this just happens to be their latest hold.
>>
>>22025607
And from there you have issues with where they're from and what kind of distribution their people make. Scavenging is actually harder than just settling down and farming since you need sources to scavenge from, and because of the reality that everything is spread out is like casting all to the wind. The "Scavenge" culture on this continent just wouldn't pan out on the long term, not when there's so many more better alternatives.

Miriam sat on her bed in a mixture of gloom and confusion. As if the poisoning wasn’t bad enough the Inquisitor had suspected Roy of all people to behind it. She wasn’t happy at all that her hair had fallen out, that her feet felt funny and that she always felt nauseous. The healers had done their best but they didn’t know what kind of poison it was so the best they could do was stop it from killing her at the least.

The room was small and made of stone yet it was surprisingly rather warm with a nice view of the courtyard outside. Which was why Miriam was surprised when she saw Roy walk in with Prez, the Pandacat. This was supposed to be a private cloister for the sick clergy themselves. Secretly she was also happy that he made an effort to visit her unlike the Inquisitor but he was probably busy so she didn’t really hold it against him.

A small rap on the door and she bid him come in. The smart blonde man she had befriended entered. The Pandcat as well entered and trotted up and leapt into her lap whilst Roy took a seat beside her bed.

“How are you feeling Miriam?” he asked in greeting.

His worry was touching really.

“I’m fine now Roy, no need to be measuring me up now.”

He chuckled a little bit at the joke. He, after all, built coffins for a living now. Reaching into his pockets he extracted a vial, in it was a blue liquid.

“I brought some medicine,” he offered it by placing on the small table at the head of the bed.
>>
>>22027397
“Oh really?” another voice broke in.

Inquisitor Lamarr, her superior an aged man with a presence, stepped in to view. How he managed to enter silently Miriam did not know but she wasn’t really paying attention to her surroundings in the first place Her heart sank again, she knew they both didn’t get along well with each other.

“How do we know it’s not just another poison?” Lamarr continued, his gazed locked firmly on Roy,

“Inquisitor,” Roy staring back in return, “If it make you feel any better, you can do whatever you do to ascertain that this is indeed medicine before letting Miriam have any.”

“You seem to be very knowledgeable about a lot of things Fokker.”

“When one has dealings with death, you learn of how and why it comes.”

“A likely reason,” the Inquisitor smiled, “But a little bird told me something interesting today. Are you an Outrealmer?”

“Yes, I am,” Roy answered without missing a beat.

Then there was silence. Miriam was even more confused now. Roy was an Outrealmer? But he was a villager of Orniere! He walked and talked as they did. He prayed and cursed as they did. How could he not be anything but Mirthan? If he was an Outrealmer, then perhaps his deception had been so great as to lead her along like so. But he saved her life and mourned for Godwinson as she did. The Inquisitor of course was also not someone who threw around meaningless accusations either. It was the Inquisitor’s near silent snort that caught everyone off guard.
>>
>>22027421
“So you’re a convert,” he spoke between his well contained chuckle, “Honestly I couldn’t tell even when I had it ripped it from the mind of a heretic.”

“Well I’m glad you can accept me for who I am Inquisitor,” Roy answered nonplussed.

“Acceptance is another matter altogether,” the laughter stopped, “I’ll put the matter of you being a convert aside for later. Right now someone has had the temerity to try and poison one of my own. Tell me why you are not the culprit Fokker.”

“I have no motive,” he shrugged, “That and the both of you had access to healing clerics. There would be no point in even trying to strike down clergy in their own home.”

“Good, I’m going to enjoy skinning you alive for that remark.”

“Inquisitor please,” Miriam pleaded, speaking out for the first time since he appeared, “If you can’t be convinced then I shall find you your evidence myself!”

She grabbed the blue vial and uncorked it. The Inquisitor was only able to gasp as she drowned the blue liquid as quickly as she could. It was bitter. All medicine was like that she supposed. The Inquisitor may have mistook her action as only a leap of faith. Faith that Roy had not poisoned her nor was attempting to do so. While he was right in that regard, Miriam had another reason for ingesting.

Scrying magic was not an all-powerful tool that allowed one to look into the past unlike what most magical colleges would have you believe. It had rules and limitations, especially when scrying a living breathing human that was also in a constant state of change. She needed a point of reference as her magic looked into herself.

There, the blue liquid had entered her body and using that as a reference, her eyes witnessed as time magically wound back the state her body had been in. Three days, one week, and soon she found the exact moment the poison had affected her. Now her focus shifted, following the thread of events further deeper and deeper.

The two men sat and waited silently for her to finish. It was only a short while before Miriam’s eyes returned to normal. Roy was the first to catch her as she recovered. In his arms she told them what they needed to know.

>I don't know which post to respond to, so I'll just respond to the one with a picture of Stalker Nazrin.

The North thing is kind of a non-issue. In fact, if nothing more south than the Ork Lands has been developed yet, then the mouse people can be there instead of the north. Really, it's just a matter of "which area of the map haven't we done much to yet?"

For the self-sustaining issue, I was planning on working off the idea on how the ruins and dungeons that TeeGee knights love to ransack just seem to keep popping up out of nowhere. I recall that there was a discussion early on regarding the source of these things, with no clear consensus and at least one explanation being something along the lines of "wizards did it." My idea was to make the ruins something like a massive seemingly self-generating dungeon that goes deep underground and is known to re-arrange itself for reasons nobody truly knows. It was either that, or have the underground portion be so deep, expansive, and dangerous that it's virtually impossible for the mice people to ever map the place out in the foreseeable future. Personally, I like the idea of the wizard-made-mega-dungeon-of-no-clear-purpose, as it fits with the entire premise of this setting (and allows me to make a few video game references as well).

Concerning the history of the mice people, I wanted to work off the fact that they're rodent people, and thus weren't really welcomed anywhere in the city. Thus they were never really in any position to know much of the whys or hows of the ruins, other than "it just happened one day, and we were curious."

Now are there any more plot holes and inconsistencies that I need to be made aware of, or is this decent enough?

Well what you said is what I figured. But I have always been a supporter of the mystery dungeons while Lem has been against them I think. But I see no problem in what you have.

3. Guns and Blades.
I spit in contempt at this treachery that has happened. The mighty Blades, not even Knights, hold guns to themselves. Claiming to know better, claiming to be in the right, claiming firearms for themselves. They carry them openly and proudly, and yet for anyone but them to own one is a crime. To make one without the Council's blessing a crime. I call bullshit OP. I do not remember the Blades, I remember the Knights Harem. When did the Blades become our masters? Where did they come from? They have no respect for our law, they have no respect for our ways, They have no respect for us. Who gave them their power? Not I, not you, but the council. Were we the Knights not to be the power? Were we not to do what the Blades have come to do? They need not a trial to kill one of us, they need not beg for a gun, what do we need of them? They view us as naive sheep, to be controlled.

1. A rambling introduction.
We have often congratulated each other, with high satisfaction, on the glory we secured in both worlds by our favorite enterprise of planting Teegee in the soil of this new world. The history of nations and of mankind was familiar to us. In consequence of such contemplations as these, it was the unwearied endeavor of our lives to establish a society on humane principles. We succeeded to the astonishment of all about us; and our posterity, in spite of all the terrors and temptations which have from first to last surrounded them, and endangered their very being, have been supremely happy. But what shall we say to the principles, maxims, and schemes, which have been adopted, warmly defended, and zealously propagated in Teegee since our founding. We very well remember the grief we felt, in those dark first days. Nor has anyone forgotten our mutual joy at the very unexpected resurrection of a spirit which contributed so much to the birth of our home. But how soon is this ardor extinguished! In the course of a few months they have cooled down into such a tame, torpid state of indolence and inattention, that the missionaries of slavery and those of Iron are suffered to preach their abominable doctrines, not only with impunity, but without indignation and without contempt. Complacent is the new state of Outrealmers and our elk. Where is your fire, where is your drive, where is you sense of right and wrong?

Our government, a council, selected from our best, leads us. But oh where do we wander, where are we lead, have we strayed or stayed the course? I have long argued that our beloved council has to too much power over the simple folk, and too few checks on said power. With the growing heat of words over the form our government should take a argument has arisen, what path will we take?
>>
>>22032653
we ought to consider what is the end of government, before we determine which is the best form. Upon this point all speculative politicians will agree, that the happiness of the society is the end of government, as all divines and moral philosophers will agree that the happiness of the individual is the end of man. From this principle it will follow, that the form of government which communicates ease, comfort, security, or, in one word, happiness, to the greatest number of persons, and in the greatest degree, is the best.

All sane an' sober inquirers after truth, ancient and modern, have declared that the happiness of man, as well as his dignity, consists in virtue. Confucius, Zoroaster, Socrates, Mahomet, not to mention authorities really sacred, have agreed in this.

In theory politics is the Science of Happiness -and the felicity of societies depends on the constitutions of government under which they live. When put to practice, it quickly degenerates into the barging of power for more.
>>
>>22032661
If there is a form of government, then, whose principle and foundation is virtue, will not every sober man acknowledge it better calculated to promote the general happiness than any other form?

Fear is the foundation of most governments; but it is so sordid and brutal a passion, and renders men in whose breasts it predominates so stupid and miserable, that TeeGeeains will not be likely to approve of any political institution which is founded on it.

Honor is truly sacred, but holds a lower rank in the scale of moral excellence than virtue. Indeed, the former is but a part of the latter, and consequently has not equal pretensions to support a frame of government productive of human happiness.

The foundation of every government is some principle or passion in the minds of the people. The noblest principles and most generous affections in our nature, then, have the fairest chance to support the noblest and most generous models of government.

As good government is an empire of laws, how shall your laws be made? In a large society, inhabiting an extensive country, it is impossible that the whole should assemble to make laws. The first necessary step, then, is to depute power from the many to a few of the most wise and good. But by what rules shall you choose your representatives? Agree upon the number and qualifications of persons who shall have the benefit of choosing, or annex this privilege to the inhabitants of a certain extent of ground.
>>
>>22032672

The principal difficulty lies, and the greatest care should be employed, in constituting this representative assembly. It should be in miniature an exact portrait of the people at large. It should think, feel, reason, and act like them. That it may be the interest of this assembly to do strict justice at all times, it should be an equal representation, or, in other words, equal interests among the people should have equal interests in it. Great care should be taken to effect this, and to prevent unfair, partial, and corrupt elections. Such regulations, however, may be better made in times of greater tranquillity than the present; and they will spring up themselves naturally, when all the powers of government come to be in the hands of the people’s friends. At present, it will be safest to proceed in all established modes, to which the people have been familiarized by habit.

A representation of the people in one assembly being obtained, a question arises, whether all the powers of government, legislative, executive, and judicial, shall be left in this body? I think a people cannot be long free, nor ever happy, whose government is in one assembly. My reasons for this opinion are as follow:

1. A single assembly is liable to all the vices, follies, and frailties of an individual; subject to fits of humor, starts of passion, flights of enthusiasm, partialities, or prejudice, and consequently productive of hasty results and absurd judgments. And all these errors ought to be corrected and defects supplied by some controlling power.

2. A single assembly is apt to be avaricious, and in time will not scruple to exempt itself from burdens, which it will lay, without compunction, on its constituents.

3. A single assembly is apt to grow ambitious, and after a time will not hesitate to vote itself perpetual.
>>
>>22032684

4. A representative assembly, although extremely well qualified, and absolutely necessary, as a branch of the legislative, is unfit to exercise the executive power, for want of two essential properties, secrecy and despatch.

5. A representative assembly is still less qualified for the judicial power, because it is too numerous, too slow, and too little skilled in the laws.

6. Because a single assembly, possessed of all the powers of government, would make arbitrary laws for their own interest, execute all laws arbitrarily for their own interest, and adjudge all controversies in their own favor.

But shall the whole power of legislation rest in one assembly? Most of the foregoing reasons apply equally to prove that the legislative power ought to be more complex; to which we may add, that if the legislative power is wholly in one assembly, and the executive in another, or in a single person, these two powers will oppose and encroach upon each other, until the contest shall end in war, and the whole power, legislative and executive, be usurped by the strongest.
>>
>>22032695

Therefore it stands we do need to endeavor to create some form of check least the council becomes no better than that of Serrid. Serrid, Myrthterra, both nations of humans, with more in common than dis. With the means owned by those of power, with one ruling body with not a check or balance. Are we not better than they?

In recent times, the council has claimed ownership of more means, under the claim of protection. I do not doubt their intent, this moment, but down the road? What for the disregard of law our so called civil servants carry out? Spies and Blades care not for our laws, nor does the council seem to at times. Our trials are a sham, or is it a shame? Our nobel bright and white commanding knights are stained in blood and cloaked in shadow. Why, why I ask have we thrown aside the light? They tell me it is to keep out the rancor of Feudalism. Yet all I see is Fascism. Would not a government without shadow leave no place for the enemies we fear might invade to hide?
>>
>>22032705

In the end I care naught what form our government takes, as long as the freedom of its populace is not in question. Secret police, and oppression of the people does not for freedom make. One must always balance safety and freedom, as more of one means less of the over. I fear we may swing too far to anyone way in our zeal to achieve greatness.

In conclusion, I do not want a “completely free market”, I want one where a person can make or break on their own feet. I do not want the government to own the means to everything.

I do not want a new government, only a more honest, lawful, and balanced one. A council of GM’s to provide a check on the DM’s. The GM’s will have no powers or responsibilities but to watch over the DM’s and if the DM’s stray from what is right the GM’s will intervene. While the DM’s are picked by the knights only, the GM’s will be picked by all citizens of Teegee. There should be no more or less than Five GM’s in total.

On foreign religion, if the preaching or practice of such proves harmful to the citizens of Teegee then that religion should be barred entrance. I am rilled at the treatment some of ours have had under the hands of mercy and iron. The fact that we continue to suffer these barbarians who worship a cruel and harsh god disgusts me. I understand that those in the ivory seats so do love to play their games, but I say enough is enough.

Only slight difference. One is zero regulation, meaning that one can sell anything of any quality, such as poisoned bread. And the other is one where the people can still sell and buy but with a bit of government oversight in the form of regulations. But too many would be as bad as too few. Dictated by his Eminence, the Bladed Cardinal, Jean Jora II, Duke of Burgis, First Horn of the Third Order of Monster Slayers, Teratologist of the Realm.

It is in this turbulent time, the years since the Outrealmers, self-admitted blasphemers and madmen through and through, have made their settlement upon the Elven forests, that good, pious folk of the Iron God may feel swayed to turn to their heathen practices and embrace of the unshriven races. But not content with getting their claws into human hearts and minds, they spread dissent with their thoughts, songs and, most troubling of all, their trade.

As many noblemen, merchants and priests are quick to point out, their city against the gods lies on newly wrought trade routes, through which they peddle their wares, equally loathsome and luxury, fatting themselves on the greed and vice of all who deal in lurid coin. But I digress, for one of the few things they are reluctant to part with, but are eager to tempt others, is their unsightly weapon, the firearm.

Yes, the new weapon currently flooding into the hands of the marketplace, the militia, the men-at-arms, the pirate and the bandit. Yet they refute, deny, and deflect any and all accusations that they provided these tools of chaos and destruction to the world, they deny the production and refinement of these weapons, they deny the assassins trained and sent to strike down lords and ladies of the Iron Land.

But heed not these words, for what little merit they hold, as the matter is now out of their hands and into the wild. The demonstration upon the Bishop Dunot, may he ever be at peace by the side of the Lord, proved that soon enough.

Surely, these must be the products of Hell’s own hands, I hear you cry. Surely, nought but bloodshed and death will be the fruits of its passing, so the humble folk confess. Before I can answer these pleas, I shall retell a set of events that occurred not two score years ago.

Though the Free Kingdoms and lands to the west were ravaged by the ‘Demon King’ Allison’s scourge across the coastline, the plains and ranges were suffering from their own flames of Hell. Formless creatures and monsters without loyalty to any nation, human or otherwise, were making their presence, and their appetites, known.

For not only were hearty livestock and villagers taken in the dead of night, left slaughtered and strewn like some dogs dinner, but the abominations responsible for these, heinous, acts against man and Myrthter had the gall, nay, the choler to throw these as a challenge against the Pax Ferros!

So I rode with the finest men and paladins the Church could spare the folk of the plains. With blade in hand and banner of His Iron Peace, we rode out to turn back the night and bring only the solace of the grave to the enemies of the mankind.

…I remember, as a much younger acolyte, that I strangled a Greater Capra Demon to death with my own bare hands for not repenting before the gaze of Myrthter. Don’t ask, you’ll never know what I’m talking about. But that’s how I got my namesake and this hellspat blade, and both blade and hand have served me well in my crusade against the foul and abominate.

So it is that in my later years, I, both wiser and of cooler temperament, now turn to seeing to my congregation and the safety of the lands. I have seen too many good men fall to things of nightmare and madness, not by the weakness of their mettle or the prayer in their hearts, but by the mechanical inferiority of their arms against such feral and untamed strength.

It is thus the right, nay, the commandment of any good and righteous follower of his Menace and Mercy, Metal-clad Myrthter, to attain and surrender these weapons to the Church! For if, in his grace and benevolence, he sees fit to bless his servants with the foresight and knowledge to turn these pagan weapons to the side of his mission, then by God and by High King, so it is your duty!

F: Solid connection between drug and lead trade. Require slave movements, freed or otherwise, and a list of sacred groves near TG.
M: Granted. Move with haste, before certain interests cover the scent.

Also no where in the world has 100% free speech. Look up Time and Place laws.

Hold on

>One google later

Huh, whadya know. I just threw that in to highlight this cardinal's, shall we say, religious fervor. Like if the brothers Ridcully switched jobs.

And before you go off on one about the Iron Church et al, read between the lines and its a simple identify and acquire order, with a bit of morale boosting on the side, that could very well apply to any organization in the setting.

Boys and their toys, you know. Everyone wants a piece of the new toy on the block, especially when they here the stores have got them.

I'm staying out of this, I barely got high marks in regular economics, much less political.

Allow me to explain. America has a free economy system, in which citizens own and sell goods and services.
The government has laws and regulations to ensure that we don't sell, say, illegal weapons, tainted food, meth, etc.
In a completely free market, as Gearheart seems to want, we lack those regulations, meaning that these things move completely freely. I'm sure you can see why we have regulations now.
>>
>>22033543
Wait, you mean you basically word for word wrote one of his best lines without meaning to? Scary and awesome. Also I'm not going off about the Iron Church. I only have a problem with Iron Church stories when we suck up to them.

As for political science/economics its all mostly BS.
>>
>>22033699
Statistics and trends disagree with you. Like, all of math disagrees with you. I should know, I've got fucking metrics crammed down my craw every fucking day and yeah, there are outliers, but generally, there are patterns, and while people disagree on what brings about those patterns they don't disagree that they exist.
>>
>>22033673
To clarify I only care about weapons and books. Regulating food and drugs I'm all for.

>>22033737
I never said what I think you think I said, I was talking about how there are countless different theories and explanations. That no one can figure out what is right. Sure they have vast swaths of statistics and trends, but the theories behind are bullshit. If you dissagre explain deficit spending.
>>
>>22033810
Whether we have a budget deficit depends largely on economic growth and foreign trade. A lot of it in my country has to do with the fact that America relies on foreign oil for the moment; we'd probably move into a surplus if we tapped into a domestic supply.

The trends are easy to figure out once you get the hang of it. Shall I explain more, Gearheart? Jistin?
>>
>>22034042
Al I know all that. But see Financial Cliff. Better yet, lets not get into real world politics. So I'm going to stop talking about them. Suffice it to say most of what I say about politics is trying to manipulate things to work for the whole Boss story. I am not as crazy as I act.
>>
>>22033067
I would like to point out that I
>>22033028
was this
>>22033159
and not this.

And to that jackass: Selling poisoned bread is already illegal as murder. It is not the same as saying "You have freedom of speech, as long as you don't say these things". It is saying "If your actions hurt people, you're liable for that". We can sue someone for slander and libel, but the legal actions of saying such things can only be in civil court, not a criminal court.

Well said anon, well said indeed. Everything is shaping up nicely, MWahhahahahahaha.

Minutes later Piko returned with a healer. Jez was still asleep at the time.

The healer said, “I won’t do anything without her permission. She is just sleeping after all.”

“Stupid healers and their stupid rules.” Piko said under her breath.

Abe nudged his wife, Jez stirred slightly. “If this isn’t important I’m killing everyone” She muttered sleepily.

“Honey, you’ve been falling asleep all day. I’m a little worried so I got a healer to come and check on you.”

With that her eyes bolted open and she sat up straight as a pole. “I’m fine, really.”

Abe made his best puppy dog eyes at her.

“Fine dammit, everyone out of the room first though.” Jez said shooting the audience an evil look. “That goes for you too healer, I’ll send Jake for you in a minute.”

“Doesn’t matter to me, I’m payed by the hour.” The healer said and walked out of the room.
>>
>>22034349
Hardly, even I don't want that.

>>22034367

The others dispersed leaving Abe and Jez all alone. Abe sat down next to his wife, putting his arm around her. “So....”

“I...There is something I need to tell you-” Jez said softly and slowly, hesitating with every word.

“I figured.”

“Abe, Just shut up for a minute!” Jez yelled. Abe was stunned, he just sat there staring not sure what was going on. “Abe, the truth is I’m not a dragon.”

“Lizard person? You do have scales.”

“No... just a fey touched demon.”

Abe opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it. He held up one finger, gesturing for her to hold on a second. He then thought hard for a moment. “Wait what?”

“Its a long story, but the point is, I’m no dragon and with the whole pregnancy thing...”

“You figured you should tell me now before the baby comes.”

“Yeah, I’m scared, I don’t even know what the kid will be like.Normal or fey touched, or demon, or like me.”

“Does it matter-”

Jez interrupted, shouting loudly again. “Of course it matters, I don’t want anyone to deal with what I had to.”

Abe hugged her tight, pulling them as close together as possible. “Dear, I love you no matter what, and I’ll love our child no matter what.”
>>
>>22034386

Jez hung her head, Abe tried to get her to look at him but she turned away more. “Abe, truth is... I made a deal with a Fey. For... my first born son.”

“.... Well then lets hope its a girl.”

Jez slapped Abe hard across the face, sending him reeling across the room. She stormed out of the house, past her waiting friends and the healer.

“So I take it I can go then?” The healer asked. The glares from the gang could have melted cast iron.

Abe pulled himself to his feet and rushed after her. He couldn’t catch up to her though, she was faster and had a good head start. He yelled after her, “JEZ, I’M GOING TO FIX THIS. TRUST ME, NO MATTER WHAT!”

Frank, who had caught up to Abe who had now come to a stop, put a hand on Abe’s shoulder. “She’ll be fine, she just needs space. I remember when Melody was pregnant with Tommy, it is a highly emotional time.”

“Frank,” Abe said in an emotionless tone of voice, looking down at the ground.

“Damn Kid, you never call me Frank, what?”

“Do me a favor, find her bring her back. I’m going to fix this somehow.”
>>
>>22034404
Days later Abe was in the middle of the woods, deep in Fey territory. Least thats what everyone called it. He had yet to see one goddamn fey in his whole time here.

Abe turned his face to the sky. “Come out you mother fuckers and take my fucking challange, you slack jawed pansy sniffing tree fuckers. Face me like a man. I’m ready and fucking rearing to go. But no all of you are too fucking chicken!” Abe screamed, falling to his knees.

But not a single creature came to him, not even a bird. The forest was silent but for Abe’s barrage of cursing that assailed the air. Moments of silence passed, after a time despair hit Abe like a five hundred man hitting a swimming pool from the high dive. Abe fell on his face, screaming and crying into the ground.

“Son of bitch, it not fair. Since the day I was born the world had it in for me, then I get transported to this assbackward shithole, nearly dieing to fucking elves in a winter hell. I find the love of my life, and what fucking happens? That gets ruined as well. Thats right universe, you fucking win. I have nothing left to give. Go on just end it.” Abe waited a second. “What's that, no bolts of lightning, no rocks fall I die? Is not my suffering enough?”
>>
>>22034411
Abe lay there for what could have been hours, to no avail. The sun rose from its slumber, and finally Abe gathered himself. He started his week long painful trek back to TeeGee. All the while trying to think of some way of fixing things.

It was on the third day of his journey homeward bound when he crossed paths with a hobbled and hunched back old woman.

“Hold on there a sec sonny, I have something that might interest you.” The witch said hidden under her hood.

“What could the likes of YOU, possibly have that I would want.”

“Only the solution you seek. A brooch that erases geasses and the memories of them.”

“Sounds pricey.”

“Oh, it is, it is.” The woman pulled out a shining golden brooch out of a pocket, showing it to Abe. “Took many souls to make, cost many souls for you.”

In a heartbeat Abe’s gun was in his hand, he filled the old witch full of holes before she could even react. Abe stooped down and picked up the brooch. “Can’t hurt.” He muttered, stuffing it into a pocket.

Up high in the sky, above the clouds, amongst the stars a creature floated. Wood and wire in hand. It gave a great yank of the wire and the body of the witch flew up into the sky. The being was pleased, no one stole from it’s lord.

A time latter Abe had made it home. On the living room table was a note in Jake’s hand writing. It read, “Jez is staying with us, she’s not well. Come as soon as possible.”

Yeah, no. I don't even want to be on the council. Let alone have to be the sole ruler. When would I fuck bitchs and troll people? Sides, those who seek power are the ones least fit to wield it.

That kind of power at least. Unfortunately, they're the only ones who get to that power, as they're the only ones who seek it.
>>

I'm... okay with this. Other positions are given to the Master Diplomat/Secretary of State, Secretary of the Homeguard, Secretary of the Treasury, and Secretary of Adventuring, all of which can be removed by a vote of no confidence.

I'll have an official rebuttal to the anonymous treatise Sir Gearheart has brought to light, hopefully sometime tonight and for the next thread, but may I ask what year said treatise was distributed?
>>
>>22040689
As for the council duty, I actually like the idea.

As for the anonymous treatise, its some time after Abe... well you know. Most likely a month after.
>>

Still not following. Year and season?

As for the Council duty, yes, I like it. Though I think it should probably be limited to Knights. Do you think Blades should be disqualified from this?
>>
>>22042518
Blades are disqualified, one can not have two masters and so on. Sides they aren't knights. And yes, duh only Knights, no non knights. As for Year and season, Figure out when the council takes care of Abe, then a mouth after that.
Spoiler is for Lem only.
As for take care of I mean after they shoot him dead the whole gun war thing you know. I don't know when that is as it is up to you.

My Grandfather has enough and I shoot when I go visit him in VT. If I ever were to own one firearm and love it with all my heart and soul, it would the M1897 Trenchgun. So fine, yet so rare...

Anyway, New Thread
