It’s not exactly everyday that you end up in a cell-like basement with a practically naked winged man and a rather overprotective Alraune for company, Garret disappearance caused an inevitable heavy mood and you wondered for a moment how to explain it to the girls topside, but the alchemist has been in isolation for as long as you remember seeing him, the new of his death, as cruel as it may seem, is probably going to flow well.

During your musing, Kyorn finally manage to completely pull himself out of the overflowing core, the incredible large flower of the plant monster easily took most of the space inside the room and the accompanying overflow of nectar easily reached your boots, and you made sure to look away given the nudity of the man but you didn’t had to stay uncomfortable for long as the monster actually wrapped his entire lower body in vines, but the obvious cringe in his face made it sure that such garb were very, very uncomfortable.

‘’Ifè, it… kind of sting and its tight’’

Rosy haired and green skinned plant girl return smile made both you and him uncomfortable but, some movement in the plants imprisoning his lower half remedied his predicament.

How to describe Kyorn? First, he is completely covered in tattoos, so much in fact that absolutely no space is left on his body and his very skin is actually part of the intricate, overall geometric design but, as the seconds trickled, the deep, dark ink cleared away to reveal a toned and unbelievably scarred skin, you’ve seen men twice your ages having lived on the edges but this man take the trophy: the amount of small and deep looking scars is staggering and you wonder how the hell he can be standing right now.

Maybe it’s the wings, they aren’t as tall and grandiose as Hadraniel, nor as soft looking as the ones Radiance possessed, they give an overall rough and bird-like feeling even if each of the feathers are a beautiful deep, jet black the remind you Mylen hair, you doubt he’d be able to support a heavy weight in the air much unlike Hadraniel but, even so, the man was a hero, even if the wings aren’t as impressive as the angels they must have just as much potential.

‘’It’s safe to assume you didn’t come here alone, right?’’

‘’He didn’t’’

The Alraune, Ifè quickly interjected before you could answer and from there, the man continues.

‘’Well I’ve got two conditions before following, but are you the one calling the shots?’’

Keeping it short and less regal would be best, that’s the impression he gives you anyway, Kyorn doesn’t seem to be listening as he rub his hands together to get rid of the viscous nectar, his every demeanor look sleepy and sluggish but, in retrospect it make sense: after all he just woke up from what you can only guess as hibernation.

Mentioning the angel in the first place would probably have been enough to surprise him, but not his expression is one of complete astonishment, to the point that the plant woman can’t resist a brief laugh but he soon recovers and rubs the back of his neck awkwardly.

The nostalgia in his voice and face is obvious; you can’t help but feel a bit jealous.

‘’Right ,well you’ve obviously got a way out of this damn place that doesn’t require a month or two of trekking, since you are here on the behalf of a queen I’ll place my conditions right now’’

Then he point to the Alraune with his thumb, the girl almost jump at the gesture.

‘’She’s coming with us’’

He then drop his arm while the rosy girl try to mask her smile with her hands, but the small droplets of tears gently falling down her face is telling enough, seem like she was certain he’d leave without her.

‘’Second, there’s a ghost I want to free from this place, since it’s my decision and quest I’m willing to take all implied risks’’

Having placed his chips, the Hero locks you with an indifferent gaze that reminds you of Mylen but, no doubt that a fire is burning inside him right now.

Those conditions sound pretty reasonable. We found out about the cursed girl from Garret last thread and knew that Kyorn will want to bring her back.

You break stare with the Hero as he nod to your word, the girl is recovering from her outburst but is still clearly quite flabbergasted, her emotions seems rather excessive but you are in man eating swamp of evil, this kind of kindness seem extinct.

‘’The second one, I must ask, how? What must be done to free her from this place?"

Kyorn take a few steps, his flower, vines and plant clothing seem perfectly comfortable, but the gesture was most likely taken to reassure himself, nothing is atrophied.

Goatman? You surprise is evident and from there, the Hero continues.
‘’We’ll see him before we exit, I’m certain of it, a group can’t venture in here without being part of his little fun’’

The Alraune grimace make it clear that she knows this individual as well and, since she realize you’re looking at her, she add for emphasis.

And he doesn’t seem happy about it, his face contort in a grimace of anger and shame.

The words of the Alraune seem to fall on deaf ears and the girl sigh.

You interject, breaking the atmosphere and, despite himself, the winged man smile as he look back at the girl who, flustered, hide in her flower.

He asks her, in a more relaxed tone without jest.

The rosy girl peeks between the large petals, some overflowing nectar falling from the core.

You doubt Ame could summon any kind of locomotion, from what you’ve seen her magic seem to be related to spirits and fires, the two don’t exactly mesh well with a spirit eating plant girl.

It’s very easy to deduce her answer, her shining eyes half hidden by the large petal of her flower immediately fall on the hero who give a brief laugh and turn to her.

‘’We need to see who is the most competent for that role’’

‘’Oh…’’

Now that is a very heartbreaking deception, the poor girl hides herself in her core but not before giving you a perfect image of a hurt, love-struck girl.

‘’Are you gifted in magic?’’

He asks, seemingly completely disregarding the Alraune and you nod.

‘’Right, then it would be the best if you carry her, I fight with mobility and savagery, having to take care of Ifè would make me a liability.’’

‘’That’s not true’’

The green girl immediately interjected, but the hero will have none of it and instead, shake his hand while crossing his arms on his bare chest.

‘’Ifè, we will get out of here but to do that, we must put every chances on us, you know fully well how I fight, having you in the middle of a formation would put me much, much more at ease’’

He was met with a pouting ‘’hmph’’ but, it would seem the girl was convinced and without further ado, you set to work.

Beside a very green skin and plants clothes to keep her modesty, the Alraune Ifè seem very much – and weight – like a perfectly healthy human being. She possess every parts, no kind of malformation whatsoever and the process of getting her out of her flower was as simple as her stepping out of the flower but, that simple act seem to have taken a huge toll on the poor girl and right now, after securing herself on your back with a bunch of very strong vines that will need to be cut, the girl fell asleep midway up the stairs.

‘’Alraune don’t survive long outside a flower, she’ll have to make a garden once we reach your safe haven’’

In school, it was said that Alraune can’t move form they’re core but it seems like you’ve just been proven wrong.

You were the first to emerge and the surprise on everyone face when you were carrying a sleeping Alraune was quite comedic, but once Kyorn showed up there was an inevitable frozen atmosphere… Broken by Batrion who threw his arm up in the air and approaching his friends, going as far as hugging him while the poor guy could only grunt as his skin made contact with the armor, Hadraniel tough, felt quite a lot of fear at this reunion but, Ame stepped forward to talk to him and the discussion was a repeat of your own, while you were approached by Sylphis who unceremoniously poked the plant girl on the tight before asking you.

‘’Where’s Garret?’’

Athena quickly flanked you; those girls were obviously concerned even if the alchemist made sure to keep from forging any kind of bonds.

Go talk to Ame; Siggy needs to warn her about the Goatman. Killing it will free that girl's spirit so Kyorn can bring her back. It is one of the conditions of his joining Ame's forces.

You pause, looking at the girls who immediately understand, and Sylphis cut you off.

Athena is holding her corrupted arm, but there isn’t any kind of discomfort in the link, and she simply nod at you with a smile to reassure you which, in retrospect, doesn’t do much, this thing is a time bomb.

Given the angel solitude, you bid a brief goodbye to the two girls and walk to her, she seem so concentrated on Kyorn, Ame and Batrion that she jump when you speak to her.

"Hey, you alright?"

She simply return a surprised look but, upon seeing the Alraune, she calms down fast but the plant girl seem to be sleeping hard, no movements and sounds cause her to stir or grunt.

‘’Yes… I am well and ready for battle’’

She answers, focusing back on Ame.

The amount of guilt that keep leaking from her is rather telling, it’s obvious to deduce she think herself responsible for Athena current predicament, but discussing that with her will have to, unfortunately, wait.

Ame concluded, high and strong, after briefing everyone on the possibility of the ‘’Goatman’’.

Small pleasantries and greeting were exchanged with the very fancy garbed winged man and the girls, but there was no time to linger, the formation was the same as previous but this time, the vanguard was shared with the new arrival and Batrion, the entire greenhouse felt… asleep.

Gone were the moving plants, gone was the oppressive and aggressive atmosphere, it actually felt like you were in a regular jungle instead of everything trying to kill you on sight, making the return to the mansion all the more easy – and fast – but that doesn’t mean the summoned Hero wouldn’t leave soon.

Kyorn seemed to be talking to his comrade, in a low voice but he was constantly doing it, meanwhile you noticed something quit unusual about Ame.

Your queen was unwell and tried to hide it best she can, her face was sweaty and she would sigh at random time while rubbing her forehead, sometime there would be small curses under her breath as she looked sideway, but every mannerism was made with as much discretion as she could and, quite frankly, it’s only because your so close to her that you actually manage to pick up on her discomfort.

Her walking was steady, her tails and ears moving like they always did but she seemed… very tired and even angry.

With you and her in the center of the formation, standing next to her wouldn’t look too farfetched, the ones behind you are Athena and Sylphis, they’d keep silent if they overhead anything anyhow and right, you feel quite a bit worried.
Letting out a brief breath as you lift the Alraune in a more comfortable position on your back (the vines help immensely in not cramping up your arms), you approach your queen without trying to make it too obvious and ask in a hushed tone.

"Majesty, is something wrong? You're not unwell, are you?"

Her eyes, the same gold as Tsukiyomi, resemble her mother too much with the loss of the usual shine; the spark of vitality that always animated her is gone.

‘’I am‘’

She answer truthfully, rubbing the side of her head and even letting out a brief cough but never, for a moment, slowing down her walk.

‘’But that doesn’t matter in the least, we will continue and make sure we exit safely, alright?’’

When your queen is speaking so gently…It's easy to deduce that she's bubbling up everything

Her and Tsu may not be blood-related, but Ame is definitely as stubborn as her mother.

She's the queen so I don't know if Siggy should push the issue. However, that doesn't mean he should ignore it. Keep an eye on Ame (and quietly ask Sylphis to do the same) and if she gets worse, then it's time for Siegfried to put his foot down and let the others know the swamp is making Ame ill.

She simply nod as you separate, her gaze wasn’t as strong or, indeed, even on you half the time, as if she was either hallucinating or lost in memories, with a quick movement of your chin toward Sylphis, the girl hop to you while Ame simply concentrate on moving forward.

Her answer, however, surprises you.

‘’I’ve been doing that, Athena actually noticed it first and warned me, she has that bad habit and never bothering anyone…’’

The entire trek inside the greenhouse was made without incident and over twice as fast, Ame didn’t offer any kind of hint as to what could be assailing her, even with adding Hadraniel in the mix of watchful eyes the queen simply pressed on right until the end, where the group was, unfortunately, forced to stop.

Batrion silent form suddenly toppled, his knees buckled and he fell without the characteristic sound of scrapping metal, Kyorn being the closest to his brother-in-arm even tried to support him the moment he lost balance but the arm of the hero simply phased through the paladin.

‘’Batrion…’’

Hadraniel was the second one to kneel beside him, but the heavily armored Hero gave her a thumb up for greeting but the sadness inside the beautiful girl made you wince, she and Kyorn were finally standing side by side but none of them ere speaking, the One to break the silence was Ame-no-Uzume, taking a step as clamoring.

‘’Thank you, Batrion, for your vital help, I hope…. That we can see each other again’’

Even sick, tired and angry, she kept the perfect of a queen, the paladin simply nodded and shared an empty handshake with Kyorn, the man adding a brief ‘’See you around, brother’’ but, ever dexterous and amazing, the greatest of paladin pulled out a small piece of paper pinched with two finger that he handed to the angel, the following pang of emotions made you wince, however the man was far from over, he beckoned you over as half of his body was disappearing in firefly, a rolled up scroll in hand he simply handed it to Kyorn who, in turn, gave it to you.

Inside was a warning

«If you don’t treat Tsu right, I’m coming for you»

How will you reassure him, Siegfried? Inside the slowly disappearing suit of armor, his stare even if empty, is heavy and so very, very serious…

Handing the piece of paper back to Kyorn, you put your hands back on the Alraune while the winged man carefully roll the piece of paper and put it in his backpack, you have, after all, no baggage due to your sleeping charge.

You give the disappearing paladin a nod and a smile, adding a smile ‘’don’t worry’’ for emphasis, his specter is already consumed up to his chest now, his expressive hands are gone and the helmet look toward you, Mylen, Sylphis… everyone, one at a time, right until he disappear.

It took a while to deduce, but you’re finally convinced of the reason why Batrion was mute.

There was no body inside the armor; somehow, it was animated by a soul, a warm, fatherly soul just as human and expressive as anyone else and, in turn, well loved by those that knew him, Kyorn and Hadraniel have both taken the same stance: Hand on one heart and looking into the empty space occupied by their brother-in-arms, wings outstretched and simply… waiting, praying.

Batrion stay was short, but just like Lysta he left a deep impression.

The journey back to the hall was calm, but not exactly: the number of will-o-wisp floating…pretty much everywhere in the corridor increased dramatically for one obvious reason: the plants weren’t active anymore, the small balls of light were free explore as they pleased, the random pumping of the vines and roots on floor, walls and roof was absent as well, the plants didn’t have any kind of supernatural or mutated characteristics anymore they were just… flowers and plants.

Although Ame losing her balance wasn’t optimistic, it wasn’t anything serious at all and she quickly blamed it on the various vines on the floor, it’s not like she fell like a puppet having its strings cut, it was merely her needing to keep herself from falling by putting a hand on the wall.

It isn’t exactly usual for a nine tailed Inari to do this but, with the door to the big, big hallway finally present, she simply ordered for to press forward and with good reason but…

There’s this nagging feeling inside your skull…

The hall is as big as you remember, the footsteps of the group echoes inside, but many decorations now adorn the place.

A heavy looking crystal chandelier shines when the colored light of the stain glass touches its frames.
Row upon rows of armors at the sides, blocking doors and paintings, each holding a very heavy and carefully prepared claymore, you’d count fifty in total.

Candles floating through the air thank to captive will- o-wisps.

Fifty masked gentlemen and gentlewomen garbed in very different set of clothing, from long frilly dress to more down to earth gothic attire, red, blue, yellow, purple, black, white a literal sea of colors and of course who could miss the masks? In the form of animals to anonymous mannequin, some straight out of a masquerade while other are simply in the form of a human face.

And on the second floor, you hear him before looking, the Goatman finish his delicacy: a poor will-o-wisps floating too close, his garb are tightly fitting and fit for a servant, dark and… classy you have to give him, or it that.

A soil covered in snow and naked trees all around the clearing free of vegetation, a single imprint made by a small girl long gone, taunting you with your first failure and immediately the scene is burnt back into your mind, the small snow child skewered by iron, her clear blood invisible amidst the purity of the white, cold, cold forest.

‘’You have the potential to be king instead of staying a prince, why is it that you hold back, Siegfried? Can’t you see he’s growing complacent, angry in his isolated cell?’’

For emphasis, you see a collar on the phantom animal, a sizzling black chain tying to the of you together for you, two, possess a very similar thing on your neck but, with a simple flick of hand, the objects disappear, the sound of burning ends, leaving silence and glares as you and the animal ferociously stare down each other.

Hadraniel spear skewering your heart, the two of you standing in the shrine, the Hero looking cold, distant and most of all, certain of herself.

Sylphis standing over your corpse, bloodied and battered inside a forest, corpse in fact, surrounds you and in the edge of your vision, you see an unmoving green scaly tail.

ng you down in that very same forest, her corrupted arm masking your face but blood and tattered are your clothes and armors, you notice that you are missing an arm and, lying amidst a sea of corpse lays a single scythe.

Bodies upon bodies, dying scattered, soldiers no more, now simply people trying to survive an impending and certain doom, the castle is dead, but you see yourself, your corpse, near the water shrine while a dark haired vulpine woman gaze down at you without emotions, you died with the settling sun.
On the field of battle, wiped out by the enemy, yet as your battered corpse lay motionless you spot the profile of a Tenko, why is it that she’s looking at you? You aren’t the only one dead, an angel is pinned to a tree and a succubus has been pierced with arrows, still alive, on her knees.

It doesn’t end there, sometime you see yourself bringing death to them, and sometime you see Ame and Tsukiyomi killing you, a never ending cycle, deaths upon deaths until, finally, everything clear as you snarl, hands balled in fist and ready to charge, but the vision of the snow calms you, bring you peace and the imprint of Avina sober you, emotions flows out and peace remains.

Again, that damnable dog is standing motionless, but the elegant Kitsune has taken a few steps closer.
