BTW, I'm the guy who's volunteered to start running beta-test games for the community once I'm free (So like, end of next week), which will either be short scenario games for like, 4-5 players, or up to 8 man recreations of MP game types, teams and free-for-all (I'm thinking Slayer, CTF and maybe KotH if I can figure out a way to do that without needing to become more adept at Maptool or something). Probably over IRC since Skype with that many people would be ridiculous. After seeing the damage rules and combat example, though, I'm sure this game needs a neutral arbiter to oversee everything, for now at least.

(Also, Grim, having watched Forward Unto Dawn, in addition to any examples of play you have, the beta test or final product should definitely be distributed with a little demo setup of a CTF game, with like a little map, rules for the game, and maybe pregen characters)

Be hanging around in the latest Halo Universe thread or if there isn't one on /tg/ in general in like, 9-10 days, assuming we're ready to test by then?

When Covenant beta comes out I'll run some Grunt-only games which will probably be hilarious.

Then, maybe when Flood are out, I'll do Infection games. Flood Combat Forms get infinite respawn, last Spartan/Marine/Elite standing wins.
>>
Here is my problem at the moment.

NOT A SINGLE UNSC FLYING VEHICLE HAS ANY FUCKING SPECS. NO SPEEDS, NOTHING.
>>
>>21888488
At this point, we need to find the current equivalent to certain vehicles, so I can come up with decent speeds and results in comparison for the rest of the vehicles.

Hornet
http://www.halopedia.org/AV-14_Hornet
Guessing it could be about the speed of one of the faster Helicopters...

Shortsword
http://www.halopedia.org/B-65_Shortsword
So... One of those mid-orbit jets we use.

Vulture
http://www.halopedia.org/AC-220_Vulture
Lets see... Those slower chubby looking B2 Bombers?
>>
>>21888488
Well, Hornets and falcons go about the same speed.

Cruising speed is like, twice a mongooses speed. You could test it in game.

Full speed, I imagine they can step on the gas pretty fast. Look up real world helicopter speeds or something.

Also, in the armour permutation section, are you gonna add some for ODST's? Or can they use the Spartan ones?
Since in universe I imagine ODSTs would have a lot of the same variety, seen in ODST the game, and in Reach you even see the Bullfrogs with their jetpacks.

Just asking because I imagine most of the time my players will be ODSTs, since they are super badass, and more options is always cooler
>>
>>21888384
>Playing nothin but Grunts
That's like playing Dark Souls on Hard mode
>>
>>21888613
Most of those will work with the ODST suit.
>>
>>21888597
Helicopters aren't terribly fast. Absolute max speed is around like 400 kph. A heavy beast like the Hornet which looks more like a gun platform then something that needs to go fast and agile would be like 160 kph. Maybe like 200+ for a Falcon.
>>
>>21888614

Which is why Grunts will have like, a 9 lives rule. You can die up to 9 times and replace yourself with an identical grunt before you have to make a whole new character again.
>>
>>21888597
Short swords are in Atmosphere bombers, so when bombing they'd probably be using sub sonic speeds. But all UNSC jets should be able to go fucking fast. Like, several machs.

>>
>>21888732

>>
Because I have to bullshit and guess...
AV-14 Hornet
Length: 38.2m
WIdth: 59.4m
Height:34.6m
Mass : 5 metric tons
Acceleration 12KM/s
Max Speed: 50km/h
Hull Integrity 37 (Hog is 35)

http://www.halopedia.org/AV-14_Hornet
>>
>>21888668
>>21888488
>>21888597

Alright, well, after doing a tiny bit of reading, looks like a decent max speed for modern 5-th generation fighters is around Mach 2, so that's probably a stable cruising speed for atmospheric UNSC craft, with maximum speed for anything capable of going orbital on its own power needing to be like, Mach 25, which, according to Wikipedia is the speed needed to achieve low earth orbit. Not accounting for planets with higher gravity. For atmospheric only, meh, I dunno how much credit you want to give UNSC for tech improvement.

My intertub converter says Mach 2 is 2,448 KpH
>>
>>21888826
38 meters long?
59 METERS wide?

Is this a Hornet or a Flying Mammoth?

The Pelican is only 30 meters long.

Also, its max speed should be faster. 50 kph is unbearably slow.
Make that its combat speed or something. But even in game it goes faster then that.

And no military would ever use something that moves that slow out of combat. How would it ever get anywhere?

I'd recommend 150 when its locked into flight mode.
>>
>>21888853
That is batshit fast.

With the Hornet, it is used as a VTOL, which usually means Helicopter. Gameplay shows them fast, but slower than an actual plane, and it handles like a Helicopter.

>>21888886

Well, if you have a game handy, and don't mind some VERY guerrilla math, assuming that all Spartan models are MC's height (2.18m), can you eyeball how many Spartans tall/wide/long the Hornet is?

I'll go look up speeds for like, a Harrier or some attack helicopters, see if that's informative.
>>
>>21888853

Yeah, standard bombers and fighters most likely won't be able to leave atmosphere, unless deployed in space.

Hence why the Sabres in Reach needed booster rockets.

Long Swords MIGHT be able to leave atmosphere, since they are huge capable crafts.
>>
>>21888940
No... no... I did something even dumber.
>>21888956
I'm using the Warthog's official stats to eyeball everything right now.
>>
>>21888886
>>21888940
Ha ha, thats what I thought.

Hornets are still rather agile and sprightly.

Like look, I can go almost 45 kph on my road bike. This thing is a jet powered turbine craft made for war and dog fights. It needs a little boost in speed at max at least.f
>>
>>21889003
f is pretty fast so I dunno...
I made Acceleration 30KM/S
Max Speed: 180 KM/S
>>
>>21888983

Even better. Pelicans have official dimensions.

Anyway, Harriers have max speeds of like, 600 or 700 Kph. Apache attack helicopters, on the other hand, do ~290 KpH. So maximum speed for a Hornet shouldn't be that far away.

>>21888959

Yeah, I basically figured only Pelicans (being dropships) and Longswords would have that kind of power. I don't know much about the Broadsword, but are they capable of exiting gravity wells?
>>
>>21888983
http://halowiki.net/p/Hornet

I don't know how official this speed is, but it looks right to me.
>>
>>21889068
120KP/H? Thats it?
Also, Halowikia is to be ignored because they've spitballed everything by the games and ignore the books.
>>
>>21889064

Harriers are Jets though, not just helicopters. It turns into a plane.

Apache is built for speed more then the hornet. Hornet is still rather un-aerodynamic.

I'd say 100-150 max speed.

Pelicans wouldn't have the power to reach orbit, I think. look at their thrusters. Nothing on their that could propel that hunk of titanium to mach 24.
Pelicans seem like In atmosphere, or Entry vehicles, ala the attack on the ark.
>>
>>21889102
Ah, just saw your new post. 180 is great for a max speed.
>>
>>21889102
Some of their specs on vehicles is a good place to start though. Like their Longsword info looks pretty legit.

Also I find it funny that when I type longsword into google, it was like the 4th result down.
>>
>>21889064

I forgot to add that that maximum velocity would not be the combat speed we probably see Hornets traveling at in the game most of the time.

Also, are you sure you mean Kilometers per second, Grim? 180 KM/S is 648,000 KP/H or 402,600 Mph, which is way more speed than my mind can wrap around. An F-22 Raptor now has a max speed (estimated) of 2,410 km/h, or about Mach 2.25

>>21889108

Pretty sure Pelicans have come in from orbit and departed to orbit in the books though. Not 100% sure.
>>
Working on the Vulture...
>Six Sylyver Launchers
>Four GUA-23 Autocannons

NOTHING SURVIVES.
>>
>>21889155
For those who don't know. Six Sylyver Launchers can fire 12 missiles a turn that hit next turn doing like 3D10+9 damage.
That is SCARY.
>>
Also, who here liked the Pelican in Halo 4?

I felt like it needlessly changed it. It sorta lost the UNSC feel, and made it all SMOOTH AND FOOTURE.
Whoever designed the ramp clearly missed the fact that now you can't stand at the open entrance, or even leave the craft if there is a vehicle being carried now, since t blocks the ramp. Guess Chief can't watch the hog get shot off by active triple A now.

Also, it was obscenely overpowered. Its chaingun able to cut Phantoms down in seconds. And a Scorpion turret on top? Ok.
The turbo Spartan Laser was cool though. Just less effective then the gun...
>>
Six ventral thrusters, two on each wing nacelle and one on each aft nacelle, allow the Pelican to land and take off vertically. These engines are capable of both space and atmospheric operation.

This is about the Pelican
So how fast is this thing's Max Speed?
>>
Hey, Vorked, is this your first project like this? or have you tweaked systems and such before?

it just seems like an awful lot of work for one dude.

I actually fiddled with a D20 Modern/Future adaptation of Halo, but it kinda bogged out when I came to the realizations that A.) I'm not terribly familiar with Halo Fluff beyond FoR (and I hated the games past the first one) and B.) Modern/Future were terrible systems to start off with, even though large chunks of it were functional and extractable.

I've been considering trying it again with an open-ended point-buy system, like BESM, or Shadowrun 4th, but I've been hung up on other projects...
>>
>>21889306
It doesn't say its capable of exiting the atmosphere though, just that it can Operate in space.
I'm just not seeing how it could possible do that.

The Longsword has two huge fusion engines to breach orbit, but the pelican has 6 tiny thrusters.

And we've seen its top speed in Halo 4, as well as. Speed daemon it is not.
>>
>>21889369

>Mach 25, which, according to Wikipedia is the speed needed to achieve low earth orbit

8.636 KM/S or 31,090 KP/H but I'm not a rocket scientist. Might be possible to not have to go exactly that fast.

If not, eh, I'd need to check some numbers on cargo and transport helicopters and expound.
>>

>>

The Darter is a UNSC cargo ship that goes from space ships up in orbit to ground and back.

Length 28.8 Meters
Width 20.1 Meters
Height 11.5 Meters
Mass 12 Metric Tons
Acceleration 250 KM/H
Max Speed 1100 KM/H

I don't exactly know what to make the stats, but this is what I have so far.
>>
>>21889437
umm... I kinda think specific wound location is mostly unnecessary to begin with. I mean, I know a lot of people like these details, and I like them myself in some games (Pathfinder's update of "called shots" suits me quite well) I feel like its adding too much minutiae to the system. options are fun, but are they really necessary?

as for bleeding, I would say any wound inflicted bleeds based on the number of damage dice dealt. shot somebody with a 2d10 bullet? they bleed for a base value of 2. hit locations could modify this (very small extremities -2, small extremities -1, regular bleed for most locations, head wounds and vitals +1 bleed value, and major arteries +2.)

sorry, I just jumped in on this in this thread. I know its been going for a while, but I hadn't had much to contribute previously.

IMO I would've preferred if they left John looking like he did in 3. 343 could've dodged a ton of complaints on the random armor update and it would've been a nice contrast to the Spartan-IV's.

Seems like they made him stand seven and a half heads tall in Halo 4, like the teenager on the second from the left. Less HUGE KNIGHT and more ANIME PROTAGONIST.

All things considered, I don't think I like it, either, but I can't help recalling the final "battle" of sorts with the Didact. It would have been jarring to see a huge bastard clearing that distance with a grenade so quickly.
>>
>>21892453
>>21892420
Too bad the armor wouldnt let John move right in the Mocap. That is the reason for the redesign. It wasnt mobile enough.
>>
>>21892544
Whats wrong with it? They even had a redesign of it in MP, so why take it out? It looks totally fine mobility wise. Maybe the shoulders would clash, but not much more the Halo 4's would

god I hate even looking at it, it's a completely differetn set of armour.

if they're going to change it they should at least have the decency to have cortana say something like "I upgraded your armour whiel you were out"

but no it still has the orbital re-entry scratch on... is that even a fucking chestplate anymore, fuck.
>>
>>21892648
I thought she did say that in something. And John was all "Youve been busy"
>>
>>21892669
She only said she upgraded the firmware , allowing him to use Promethean and covenant armour abilities.

Frankie said once it was nano bots that she used while during the trip, but its never mentioned in game, or anywhere else, and where the hell did she kept Mjolnir Improving nanobots from?
>>
>>21892669

She only commented on upgrading the firmware of the armor, which is kind of a code-only thing.

It explains the new HUD, but not much else. It's not too much of a stretch to think she might've designed new armor and put it on his cryostasis'd body, but tools and materials are kind of hard to come by when you're adrift in the ass-end of nowhere, in the ass-end of a ship.

Gotta say guys, don't know how more detailed is bad. And looking at 1 through 4, that's honestly what each change looks like, they added further detail to the render. While they're a little more obvious from 3 to 4, even other games look, at least to my eye, to have involved some proportional shift. 2 to 3, for example, looks like a thicker model they used.

And honestly, I don't know how "thick" John is supposed to be. SPARTAN-IIs are built like Olympic athletes, not slabs of meat. Other than Samuel, who I believe was remarked upon as huge.
>>
>>21892702

yet it still has the scratch on the right side of his pec, I really dislike the new art direction, the new covvies look kinda cool and I love the promethian weapons and designs but the spartans and pelican re-designs just look so awful it almost makes me physically ill.
>>
>>21892764

it's not the detail that looks bad, what looks terrible is that it's got to a stage that it no longer looks like Jon at all, the armour is completely different, the only thing thats stayed the same is the colour of the visor... and even thats much darker than in H3.
The issue I have is that he and all the other spartans don't look 'slim' or 'athletic' they look anorexic, and the armour looks like it's wetsuit thick rather than anything that looks even remotely protective. and there so little actual armour on their armour if I was a grunt facing one of them I would just laugh and fill the fucker full of needles.
>>
>>21892764
>>21892811

the new weapons look and feel cool though but I lament the loss of the plasma rifle, it feels too iconic to be left out.
>>
>>21892811

Well, the Gen 2 armor is actually supposed to be thinner and lighter than the first Gen of MJOLNIR armor, but presumably because of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (Which is totally Humanity's move now) protection is similar. Me, I don't have any problems, other than I don't know how anybody approving a military budget would have accepted some of those helmet designs.
>>
>>21892764
More detail isn't a problem, but just arbitrarily changing stuff for no reason is annoying. Like, why did all the spartans in Halseys flashback also wear this new armour? And They could have just made Mk6 more detailed. Infact, they DID. But they give you this weird change instead. Sorta just rankles.

Also, Halo 3 Master Chief was not too bulky at all. He's exactly what I'd expect of a man thats been augmented like he has. He's still in very good proportion, and just looks like a large imposing figure without looking cartoony.

Halo 4 he, and all the S4's look... skinny. He's got like a chicken neck, and in some cinematics he looks like a beanpole. Seems like they resorted to making him waaay taller too, to give him a senesce of presence. In previous Halos his silhouette alone was enough, but now that he's surrounded by other power armoured idjeets, he needs to be made into goliath to stand out.

Biggest complaint about the new armour though, is the lack of coverage, and how some stuff just seems stuck on, like the abdomen guard, and the shoulder pieces. They are just slapped on without being a part of the cohesive whole.

So yeah, too much detail can be bad, when you go into the over designed territory. The new Pelican is the best example. It just no longer looks like a rugged UNSC vehicle. Now its some slick new footure werfer death machine.
>>
>>21892875

there's thinner and there's "oh god why are you wearing a gimp suit into battle" art direction for the spartans has taken a massive nose dive, the armour just looks.... ugh I could rant about this for hours but I'm not even going to waste board space.

suffice to say, if I ever see the art director for H4 at a convention or in public or whatever I cannot be held resposible for my actions.
>>
>>21893006

this, this a thousand times everythign this man has said.
>>
>>21889205

I like parts of the redesign because now it's more reminiscent of the MI-24 - my most favorite helicopter of all time.

However, I became more than slightly miffed when they separated the cockpit from the rest of the hold completely. That was lame.

>>
>>21894654
Really? I like the design, but I feel the opposite.
In her first incarnations, she seems more in control. She's slim, has sheer cropped hair, and looks a little stern.
By Halo 3, she's sorta let go a bit, hair is longer and a bit more imperfect.

Then in Halo 4, she looks younger, more vulnerable and human, because she's going crazy, and can't stop it, and doesn't know what to do.
>>
>>21894858

>>
>>21894883

>>21894950

>>
>>21895069
I just found it so unmemorable. When I think back to the first 3 Halo games, remembered a scene is as much about the music as what was happening. Hearing Warthog Run when you are doing one of the epic final drives, or the music at the beginning of The Covenant, or the end when you are assaulting the fortress.

Alll soooo good. Going back and playing 4, I do hear some decent stuff once in a while, but it seems more subdued, and less glorious space opera, and dramatic tension music.
>>
Excellent. Laptop back and now I am playing Halo 4 for uh... research. yeah

So here is the deal. I was adding a system that allowed players to earn extra support points/cR by playing CTF and other multiplayer based game modes.
These would be inbetween missions, as I have explained in earlier threads.
If players pulled off winning the challenges, they would gain a certain amount of winnings for each objective that was accomplished.
This would also allow premade maps to be able to be made and passed around with different challenges, sort of like making your own map and setting Waypoint challenges.
Losing shouldnt lose anything, really... Not sure.
This would be more in line with Wargames but with simulated enemies, and a death just means a loss without respawn or losing the character for real.
>>
>>21896345
Missions are of the following.
Secure the Prisoner
Capture the Flag
Kill the King
Hold the Point
Extermination
Espionage

Extermination is to clear out everything hostile in the location.

Espionage is to sneak around and sabotage something without being seen.
>>
>>21896469
This is a really cool idea. I was already gonna start with my group doing paintball style CTF against each other for the first mission, but this would be a massively awesome extension of that.

Well, since these will game-types included in the game, it's only fair to say that my Weekly War Games matches will involve.

Don't know if I'll start that way, but I will probably be doing 4v4 variations of them (With human players on both sides), unlimited respawn, and playing until so many points, which I will probably start by low-balling until I find an appropriate amount for like, 30-45 minutes around, probably run a couple of rounds.

This will just be for bragging rights and experience with the system, since it's not campaign play and there's not a whole lot of point to me offering rewards, unless we're going to build some giant living games community.

My plan is for players to pick from, like, 8 pregens (SPARTAN-IVs with MJOLNIR GEN 2) of different specializations, each armed with a Magnum, a Knife, 2 frag grenades and your choice of an AR, BR or DMR and I'd offer an SMG if I thought anyone would take it (If Grimlock doesn't think this is a terrible idea). There will be four random Ordinance drops at the start of a round scattered around a map. If I feel like a round isn't thrilling enough, I may drop in more weapons later. First couple rounds probably wont have vehicles, and I probably wont deal with the additional armor stuff, but It'll be in eventually.
>>
>>21904848
Nothing about The Package is canon, nor was it intelligent. Whoever made that was obviously an idiot that didnt know what he was dealing with.
>>
>>21904933

I'm not even sure the Package was trying to be intelligent. Mostly I'm sure the animation group was trying to be as Rule of Cool as possible. It makes something nice to watch, but kind of shitty in context of its universe.
>>
For personal entertainment, are players allowed to use "skulls" either randomly or by set rules to change up certain skills or bonuses? This would be especially entertaining for players who are all Spartans/Marines/ODST's who are up against a GM Covenant/Flood/Promethian controller. When waves become more frequent, so do their upgrades and so do more challenges for the players?
>>
>>21905005
That could be a thing at some point, yes.
>>
>>21905005

So you're saying you want some Firefight action?
>>
>>21904933
This.

Can we also treat Glasslands and Thursday War as non canon? I read Glasslands and the amount of canonical contradictions in the fucking book was retarded. Somehow, the professor had a instantaneous communicator that fit in his pocket, all of ONI got wet and a bad case of the waaaaaaa over the kidnapping of children for the S-II project, Lucy was described as being only 12 years old in the dyson sphere even though that's the age she was at years prior during operation TORPEDO, etc etc
>>
>>21904933
Do you have a favourite Halo Legend?

I quite like Babysitter (Cept for the spartans hair. Its like they thought at the last second they needed to smack us in the face to remind us they are japanese.)

And Prototype was awesome. Especially now that the Mantis is considered the Mk2 of the frame.
>>
>>21905090
Yeah, what was with that? Pretty sure spartans are all about the military regulations, hair included.
>>
>>21905075

Personally, I'd say to regard general large scale events being canon (I can totally see ONI being bastards to the elites, even if they're on our side) but details should probably be brushed over or ignored.

Shit, Traviss left Del Ray and the SWEU because of "creative differences" (Read: She played a little fast and loose with the canon, and didn't like it when people did the same to her). Personally, I think she should be steered away from anything remotely resembling some kind of deep or political issue, and just write scary space men in a scary space jungle.
>>
>>21905075
Uhg, this.

Hiring Travis to write these books was really just a slap in the face to all fans. She's just shitting on the universe, and make whatever she wants up.

I realllly hate the treatment of Halsey, and am sorta disappointed that its transitioned into Halo 3 and Spartan Ops like this.
>>
>>21905178
Yeah, I agree with this.
>>
>>21905190
I'm really irked that 343 let her do that, and played along with it. Fucking ridiculous.

>>21905190
Traviss needs a competent adult to veto her stupider shit. Seriously, there are writers you can trust not to go pantsu-on-head if left to play in someone else's sandbox, and then there's Karen Traviss, who never got over having her precious speshul mando toys taken away.
>>
>>21905069
I would like to have Firefight related fights. At least when Spartan Ops missions involve defense or attack, there are multiple waves of enemies for he players to fight against. This would be very fun at the least. The origninal "firefight" was on Halo in Halo: Combat Evolved when you were saving soldiers.
>>
>>21905294

Most of the Missions will be Spartan Op like events. Which is why there is a lot of tings involving pre-mission setup. You setup for shorter missions, usually leading to something XBAWKS HUGE.

Wait, was The Babysitter foreshadowing the whole human empire thing?

I alway thought that the clearly japanese style buildings was just a lazy artist impression of what mysterious alien ruins would be, but now, its totally possible that they ARE ancient human ruins. The forerunners could have missed the planet or something.

I'm thinking for my first game to just be a bloodbath where the players are pretty much GOING to die. And I wanna use some Covies.

I'll probably just BS for weapon damage and shit, won't do anything complicated.

Who knows, maybe we'll come up with some cool Covanant abilities while were at it.

Just a couple of revision recommendations:
S90 Gas Mask - +20 to tests to resist effects of poison gas

Spoofer - +20 to hacking tests

recommended Additions:
Drop Clip - rope and winch tethered to belt, allows user to safely drop up to 30m if secured

Medkit - containg:
Morphine - stops loss of consciousness and shock
Med-gel - stops bleeding for next 10 hours
water purification tablets - purifies water
Sutures - Close wounds, if sutured locations are hit again in next week, wounds have a chance of reopening, increasing bleeding

Open any door seems a bit OP, and unrealistic, even in halo, hacking is still something that's not a guarantee. Unless you're a smart AI, hacking shit is not so trivial that it should be an instant pass, and I fail to see why you'd have a device that can only hack doors, but nothing else. Why not have something that makes you better at hacking?

I agree with you on the gas mask though.

my sources say the spoofer works by sending an electrical impulse through the door to destabilize the locking mechanism, so it's not hacking the door, so much as fucking with it's locking mechanism using. Obviously, this won't work on all doors, and if it doesn't work, it's not like you can just wait longer and it'll start working.

Uh, why does a carbine do more damage overall and even have more range than a full sized rifle, especially when they use the same bullet?
>>
>>21912764g
Because a shit ton of weapons and this is all a beta to find mistakes like that.
Thanks for pointing it out. When I have access to my laptop, it will be fixed.
>>
>>21912846
Alright. I just found it weird it did the most damage. Similar damage to the other MA5 rifles would be fine, and it not having better range than the other rifles.

I don't know how you intend on representing weapon classes, if any. Generally, a carbine's advantage over a rifle's would be:
1. Weight.
2. Firing it up close
3. Takes up less space.

With cons being less overall accuracy and penetration.

Same applies with subguns and handguns over short barreled shotguns & carbines.

So,

Handgun > Subgun (like SMGs) > Carbinesshort-barreled shotguns > contemporary rifles and shotguns > battle rifles/DMRs > shit like full-sized WWII rifles

etc etc
>>
>>21912764
Speaking of, I noticed the M6J carbine has a longer range than the MA5 rifles.

It uses a .50 caliber round, but, say., the .50AE from a desert eagle is not the same as a .50BMG from a M2 machine gun.

Just like how a .357 magnum round isn't the same as any .30 caliber rifle/carbine round.
>>
>>21913212
>>21913256
Everything except for damage came from the actual stats of the weaponry. So a lot of the ranges came straight from Bungie. The real things I need to fix are weapon damages.
>>
>>21913559
When was the M6J Carbine ever used?
>>
>>21913559

As someone who knows a little about guns, and who has served in the military, I would advise you that Bungie might not be the best source for firearm information.

Your weapon ranges are all over the place and do not match with the calibers. About the only gun in that whole list that has realistic range values is the DMR and to a slightly lesser extent, the shotguns. Using the M16/M4 platform as a baseline (optimal effective range 300m, max effect range (point target) 500m) your assault rifles are woefully short ranged, especially for the munition they use (7.62x51mm NATO weapons like the M14 and M240B are have effective ranges well past 700m and are lethal well past 1500m). Barrel type does have a lot of effect on those numbers, but even out of a shorter barrel, 500m would be child's play for such a round.

Ont he flip side of all that, your pistols have ridiculously long ranges, as well as other weapons firing large caliber rounds. Physics is the big limiting factor here. Such large rounds go relatively slowly compared to rifle rounds, and thus, while they carry terrific stopping power, they are very short ranged. The only way you are getting any sort of pistol round out to 300m is if you aim it into the air like a mortar. The closest RL analogue to the round the BR fires is the 9x39mm round, which has a maximum effective round around 300-400m and while technically a subsonic round, even with a more powerful load behind the slightly larger 9.5x40mm, it's effectiveness wouldn't be much higher.
>>
>>21914128
Fun fact: Halo it set 500 years in the future across thousands of worlds

BR is suppose to have a range of 900m according to Harvest though
>>
By the way, the VISR thing was retconned on to all the Spartan armors
>>
>>21914277
If I ever do Halo, I'd probably set it to the Haloverse prior to Halo 2.

Partly because I'm most familiar with that, partly because I like the novels, partly because Halo is now a stupid clusterfuck of dumb retcons.

Is OP going to use the damage seen in the games or the books? IE: plasma pistols aren't dinky things but rapidly melt through armor (which is one justification why warthogs have no armor)
>>
>>21914128
The M6 series pistols are used as rifles, bro. They have science long ranges. The shotguns technically hit outside the effective range, they just get weaker after that point. These ranges are range of firing and effective damage/accuracy. I am going by what Bungie has set for these weapons, because this is a game based on Bungie's universe. If playtests show that these need to be altered from what Bungie originally had set, then they will change.
I am not disagreeing with you, just know that.
>>
Okay, so what is the bump limit of /tg/? I know /co/ had a bump a while back, not sure if /tg/ got it...
>>
300, maybe?

Is the "Select Fire Rifle' supposed to represent the experimental single-shot rifle in the Reach novel? Because it does more damage than all the other BRs.

I think you should add weight to weapons/ammo/gear. Given that in Halo you can only carry so much ammo and only so many weapons, I think it'd fit. Of course, you'd still need some sack or whatever to actually carry x10 rockets even if you're a spartan.
>>
>>21914823
Weight is coming after the beta.
Also the Select Fire Rifle is the type of rifle. You are thinking of the XBR55.

Okay here is what I've done so far.

BR, DMR, and AR piercing has been increased.
Pistol Piercing has been balanced pertaining to the newest and oldest and application use.

Carbines lessened piercing...
Beta will tell in time what needs what.
>>
OKAY. How is this?

FIREARMS AND RATE OF FIRE
Every weapon has a Rate of Fire. This indicates how many shots a character can make in a Full Action. If a character decides to fire the weapon with a Half Action, the Rate of Fire is halved (Rounded Down). Characters can also attempt to make shots at a Response Action at a -20 penalty; this only allows the player to take 1/4th of the Rate of Fire in shots, with a minimum of one.
If a weapon has a Three-Burst Rate of Fire, the gun can be fired six times in a turn, a burst per Half Action.
>>
>>21914823
A "Select Fire Rifle" means you can switch firing modes from single shot semi automatic to either burst or automatic. So it's more like the XBR55 from Halo 2 and 3.

>>21914735
The M6 series has always been slightly borked. It's all a matter of whether you want to keep that or not.
>>
>>21914973
I want to keep their damages, at this point. If they are broken, I will lower their firing speed.
>>
>>21914949
And the time for target acquisition when switching targets?
>>
Simplifying bleed by merging Internal and External. Original rules had it more difficult to heal internal, but I dont want to weigh down the system.
>>
>>21915060
Switching targets? You mean manually switching targets to shoot them? Maybe using the character's Response Action?
Could be a Free Action, because man have you seen trained soldiers going down firing ranges? Shit is crazy fast.
>>
Bleed for major organs increased, bleed for appendages decreased.
>>
>>21914994
I didn't look at the pistols, but in the games, the fire rate, damage and accuracy of the pistols were different from eachother.

Halo 1 had 3SK pistols that were the games equivalent of a DMR in handgun form.

Halo 2 had rapid firing, but much weaker pistols in exchange for capacity.

Halo 3...don't really remember.

Halo ODST had them as a pseudo-Halo
Reach DMR. Fired fast, but took multiple hits to kill with. Had a scope as well.

>>21914994
I assume semi-auto weapons would be Burst?

Will there be weapon mods, btw? Civilian guns? Non-canon content in general to fill in some gaps?

What is going to be the powerlevel of a Human, Spartan I, II, III, ODST etc?
>>
>>21915238
There are weapon 'mods'
There are already Civilian guns on the game.
There will be non-canon content. Bungie said that if there is something in the military, now, there is most likely a UNSC futurey variant.
The "Powerlevels" were posted somewhere in the thread in an image already.
>>
>>21915066

Could have a fatigue/lethal system, instead.

If the fatigue damage from a single source is more than a quarter of your Toughness, the difference is converted into lethal. Then you can have crazy bastards that jump out of third-floor windows, sprain an ankle, and try to keep running. Or you could have a set of ORION motherfuckers trying to march their way around the edge of Hell to provide support, and only end up winded instead of exhausted/wounded.
>>
>>21914741
Plasma pistol shots to the face hurt. A lot. And we're not talking about a full overcharge...
>>
>>21915107
Yeah, but on a firing range you know where your targets are going to be. Not so in an actual engagement. You might be surprised how much being a "trained solider" nowadays involves putting hundreds of rounds downrange just to suppress two or three shooters.
>>
>>21917853
Already have a fatigue system.
>>21919063
Yeah. They'll be doing book damage, but every character will just be able to take more before dying.
>>21919323
No, you dont. Most Testing Ranges like what I am talking about change whenever they do them.
