(Previous threads: suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Ogre Civilization Quest)

"Despite how they are portrayed in children's tales, myths, and word-of-mouth stories, most ogres are not callous, brutish villains who 'grind bones to make their bread' or 'murder billy goats gruff.' As such, ogres are responsible for many anticlimactic moments in recent history."

"Upon receiving eyewitness reports of ogres lurking in nearby forests or foothills, many isolated backwater villages have gone into frenzied panics, believing it to be a matter of time before an army of those ravaging monstrous humanoids sweep through the settlement and burn it to the ground. Fear-mongering is the word of the day, as ogres are blamed for everything from missing livestock to inexplicable magical phenomena (i.e. swamp gas, rains of frogs, etc)."

"What often happens is that some wandering adventurer happens then across the village, and solves the 'imminent ogre attack' by simply finding the ogre and convincing it to wander off to some other area, usually by using some combination of logical argumentation and bullshittery. While there are of course some bad apples (i.e. those ogre magi who are too smart or ambitious for their own good), many ogres are really quite mellow unless provoked or persuaded that senseless acts of violence are in their best interest."

"In one recent case of an anticlimactic resolution of an ogre incident (where villagers were spooked by the sighting of a slightly larger-than-normal ogre), the larger ogre in question was easily persuaded to leave; it stated that it was just watching the village, mostly to 'study wot dis civilization thing was all about.'"

"As it would happen, this was shortly before the ogres begin disappearing from the Old World..."

>Still most of the way through a turn...
>Agreed to trade Featherstone to the dwarves in exchange for their aid in the upcoming war!

The rest of the ogres' meeting with the dwarves passes by very quickly; upon reaching their agreement, both sides start the process of ferrying Featherstone down from Ogir Place to the dwarven tunnel cutting through Ogir Crater. Soon enough, most of the dwarves turn their attention away from the meeting to get themselves acquainted with Featherstone's rather unique properties, busting out scientific-looking apparatuses that the ogres (and even the elves) can't make heads or tails of.

The elves mostly find themselves on the sidelines- between the ogres' and dwarves' combined strength, there's more than enough manpower to haul around lightweight rock. Celicia takes advantage of the small lull to ask the dwarves' overseer/leader/prince, Lockstock, something that had been bugging her for a while.

"... so what happened to the humans?"

The older dwarf blinks up at the elf soldier, stroking his beard in thought. "Well... see, I wasn't exactly /there/ when it happened, but we basically let them get on with their lives. Let 'em keep their sorry little above-ground land-holdings, on the condition that they shut down their mines and leave the digging to us dwarves," Lockstock replies, seeming to fully approve of this course of action. "If they want any of the earth's bounties, they'll have to take it up with our merchants instead of messing about in OUR mountains."

Celicia raises her eyebrows. The last she'd heard of the ongoing skirmishes between the humans and the dwarves, the humans had managed to hold onto SOME of their continent's mountainous regions, for at least a few centuries. If the dwarves had managed to break that stalemate in the short amount of time she'd been stationed away from the Old World, here in the deserts of Terra Incognita...

The blonde elf phrases her reply carefully, trying not to let on any of her unease at this. "Can't see the humans taking that too well."

"Ooh, aye, the looks on the human bigwigs' faces were reputed tae be something amazing," Lockstock chuckles. "No metals except for what we or someone else sell 'em? That ought to stop the humans from fielding an army for a while!"

Among other things, Celicia thinks to herself. The next few years look like they'll be a bad fucking time to be human.

Meanwhile, Boss Bawss Fistboss sits on a nearby boulder, devoting all of his energy to planning out his next few steps.

Lockstock's a friendly enough dwarf, but it's probably too early to invite him and an honor guard to a tour of Ogir Place- the other dwarves aren't nearly as trusting yet, and look to be impatient to get back to their work. So that's right out.

On the other hand, the dwarves have also been kind of vague as to what KIND of help they'll give in the upcoming battle between the Scaratones and the Formichroma, along with what kind of diplomatic overtures the dwarves will make to the Scaratones themselves. Might not be good to pry too much, but on the other hand, it might also be good to know. Could be worth a shot to press 'em on this.

An easier topic to broach would probably be to ask them about the underground landscape in and around Ogir Place. Boss Bawss noticed that the dwarves look to be a hardy lot, and most of them at least seem to know their way around a fight, especially since Lockstock pledged their aid to the upcoming fight. Maybe the dwarves bumped into some new fauna underground, or picked up some other relevant information...

And, of course, there's always other trading options to explore.

"What? Our plans for battle?"

Perhaps most other emissaries from most other races would be at least somewhat put off by how bluntly Boss Bawss phrases his question, but Lockstock simply takes it in stride. He DOES give the larger ogre a sly grin and a wink. "That would spoil the surprise, wouldn't it, lad? - alright, alright," Lockstock relents upon seeing Boss Bawss's nonplussed expression. "Well, we're only a small group of miners, see, so we can't exactly pitch right in on the front lines or anything like that. And if what you're sayin' is true, lad..."

"Wot, about da bad bugs comin' up from da deep underground?"

"Aye. Well, back home, we got our own ways around nasty intruders tryin' to dig into our mineshafts, you see. And we think that your enemies- they'll find that it's a /blast/," Lockstock quips.

The dwarf's guffaws only increase in volume at Boss Bawss's blank face as the pun goes right over the larger ogre's head. "You'll see what I mean, lad! Hit an' run tactics, booby traps, dummy tunnels to throw 'em off the right direction- that sort of thing. Why, the Scaratones might not even know that we're there, only that the enemy forces're having trouble reaching their defensive lines! ... er, you SHOULD probably tell them about us, lad, we don't want to spook the beetle-men or make them think we're bogeymen or something," he adds quickly.

(Cont.)
>>
>>21875577
Boss Bawss's eyes light up as another question narrowly escapes being forgotten forever. "'Ere, speakin' of bogeymen... didja see anythin' strange under da ground, on da way over?" he rumbles.

"Weird things, weird things..." Lockstock mutters, scrunching up his face in recollection. "... well, now that ye mention it, we DID bump into something on the way over, once we reached Terra Incognita. Far east and kind of north of here, we had to reroute the tunnels deeper into the earth, you see, because we kept hitting walls."

"... walls?" Boss Bawss repeats. As far as he knows, there aren't ANY buildings that extend that far underground... right?

"Walls," Lockstock confirms. "Really old things, like some kinda regal cellar or basements or some other such rubbish. That's not the worst of it, though. Had to do some backtracking, because we nearly got caved in by- get this- bones. We ended up digging into the bottom of some sort of mass burial site or something- one moment, we're diggin' through dirt, and the next?"

Lockstock makes a 'pew-pew' sound, pantomiming things falling from the ceiling. "Bones! Big bloody bones and skulls, falling everywhere, and most of them look like they'd been gnawed on or somethin'. Had to seal THAT part of the tunnel up real fast," he mutters, shuddering and taking a swig from his hip flask.

... well, that's... something. For a moment, Boss Bawss can't help but think of Ryagmos, the psychotic bone-collecting drake lich they'd fought all those days ago...

[ ] [END TURN] Say goodbye to the dwarves for now, and head back home; there are a lot of preparations still to be made!

>Write in.

We also got some more special bits and pieces we found if you want help with traps and so, like some of our Aqua Pebbles!

A single one can provide you with infinite water if you just add water to it. So, with a single stone, you could flood entire mines hafts and so on. It'd really handy!

Of course, we really don't have that many left at all, but with this battle coming up, we can spare one or two to be used in trap building and so on. You could create massive floods using stored up water, or endless reservoirs, as long as you pull the stone out once you have enough water.

Oh and we have Gubbins as well!

He's a really good Geomancthingy. Can do all this magically stuff. He also made heaps of Ogres learn how to do it as well, if you want his help.

And then there's Cuddles. He's this big thingy we found and keep in Ogir Place. He makes all this fiery stuff, so we use him to heat the place and stuff.

Make you can meet him?

That and we have some other stuff you can mess around with at a later date, if you want to meet up again.

I agree we should offer to introduce the dwarves to the Scaratones (if we haven't already), but it's a little too early to start handing out aquifer pebbles or trading them mole ravagers. We are not mentioning cuddles to them (binding an archdemon has got to be a cheevo, don't mess with a dwarf's cheevos!). Might want to ask if they'd teach us to mine properly so we don't tick them off like those pesky humans.
>>
>>21875825
You don't really tell everything, including the fact that you have a demon, to people the first time you encounter them. Ogres also don't really comprehend magic except Gubbins. Some other stuff(like meeting with the scaratones) can be done later
>>
>>21875706

Hmmm. We probably should have our Master Geomancer look at what they're working with. Maybe he could somehow build them some sort of underground magical radar or boost their drill or something?

Plus, you know, demigod of volcanoes and stuff. I bet "SURPRISE LAVA!" would be a good trap.

Oh dear gods, we need to learn trapmaking. Like some sort of horrible, oversized, clumsy kobolds.
>>
>>21875901
Didn't Gubbins turn all the Ogres into Geomancers earlier?

Anyway, I'm just making suggestions. We could do it at a later date, and I just want us to actually have a look at Cuddles, rather than letting him stay locked up without any proper supervision.
>>
I say we should act as mediators when it comes to the dwarves and scaratones, but that is it. No aqua pebbles or tours or fluffy. We can't throw those things around willy nilly. We don't have an infinite supply.

Besides, as is, everyone is tense. If we want to be at our best, we wait until AFTER we deal with the major threat is dealt with and certainly not today.

>>21875940
Just a quick note- I'll be changing around how we choose actions at the beginnings of turns, and checking up on Cuddles will be one of the things included. So that's one less thing to worry about at right this moment, hopefully.

>>21875963
Basically, this. Ogres can do a little basic Geomancy without really thinking about it (this will mostly happen when the ogre is threatened in some way), but there's still a line between "impulse instinctive earth-shaping" and "conscious Geomancy practitioner."

Boss Bawss is about to call the meeting right then and there, but he pauses as a few more things occur to him.

"So I was thinkin'," he rumbles. "I was thinkin'. Me an' Queenie an' Celicia, we're gonna have a big ol' get-together before da big battle happens. You know, to make plans an' stuff. You dig?"

"Aye, lad, I do dig," Lockstock replies dryly.

"So..." Boss Bawss scratches his head. "Dat's probably a good time to meet up wit' 'em for da first time, right? I can totally hook you up. So dat we can all... all cord-Nate together," he continues, squinting at Celicia (who's standing behind Lockstock and miming out the appropriate things he should be saying). "And figure out da best... opt-animal configragrious for da... porpoise of tact-cool... /things/," Boss Bawss finishes decisively, ignoring the rest of Celicia's charades (and her subsequent palm-to-forehead). "To figure out da best way of fightin' things."

"Talkin' to an ogre, a lass, and royalty of a previously unknown civilization... well, how can I turn something like that down?" Lockstock replies easily, a twinkle in his eye. "That's acceptable. I"d just as soon prefer that we learn which bugs to blow up and not to blow up!"

(Cont.)
>>
>>21876437
"-- oh, and if you DO see any Formichroma beforehand," Celicia interjects. "Do not attempt to engage them one on one. Their leader has the nasty ability to... /take over/ the bodies of his subordinates at any time, transferring his powers as well."

Lockstock takes a moment to ponder this, absentmindedly twirling a lock of his beard between his fingers. "And that leads to a bad time, aye?"

"A very bad time," Celicia confirms, in that deadpan voice of hers.

And on that slightly worrisome note, the meeting draws to a close.

"- I'm telling you, we have to WAIT for confirmation from the High Council before we can use Featherstone in our cheevo attempts!"
"Och, shut yer big flappin' mineshaft! I'm tired of hearin' about the High Council this, the High Council that! Do you need permission to suck on their hammers, too?"
"Your high-falootin' Fourth Edition loosens up tha' regulations keepin' tha' Achievements Tome from becomin' an overgrown paperweight with no limits-"
"You... you... double tree-hugger!"

... to be more specific, the meeting draws to a close when the dwarves start brawling amongst themselves, forcing Lockstock to devote all of his remaining energy on breaking them the fuck up.

(Cont. for status report and new turn in 10-15 minutes!)
>>
>>21876452
>STATUS REPORT
First and foremost, the ogres have somehow managed to reactivate the DEactivated portal inside Daphnaia! In fact, they've rigged it to do some pretty amazing things, starting from "pulling doomed elf soldiers from different time periods" to "opening up a connection to Lolth's Guild of Merchants," the technically elven freelancer merchants who don't fall under the umbrella of the Elven Coalition (oh, elven politics). Celicia no longer has to worry about losing all her elves through gradual attrition, and Ogir Place looks like it'll have enough crackshot elven riflemen to last them for a long time!

The ogres have also discovered currency! It is shit, and therefore not really suited for anything other than an Ogir Place-only currency. Still, it's a start.

More importantly, the ogres have done two things: first, they've plumbed the depths of their animals (not like that, you guys) and discovered all the possible uses for the giant bats and the naked mole ravagers- food, riding, the works! Secondly, the ogres have invented Rockkiteering, which is the act of taking random iron tubes and fucking reality so hard that the tubes actually function as rock-shooting artillery pieces.

Finally, the ogres made second contact with the dwarves, managing to finagle their aid in the upcoming battle in exchange for a bit of Featherstone (and how to use it)! The achievement-loving dwarves seem to be somewhere between 'neutral' and 'friendly' with the ogres, though time will only tell how they'll take to the Scaratones...

(Cont.)
>>
>>21876665
>The Current State of Affairs...
Think of this as the calm before the storm. The ogres only have one more turn to prepare for the battle between the Scaratones and the Formichroma, and much to do. Ogir Place is home to more and more ogres, and many of them are in the process of being trained for their respective vocations; meanwhile, the elves are still being integrated into the Felpowder Elves' forces, though Celicia has that well in hand.

Right now, the ogres can spare some manpower to do a little bit more exploration of the realm. Last time, elven scouts spotted the beginnings of a mountain range, far to the west of Scaratone Hive; as it's one of the few landmarks in the deserts of the Scouring Wastes, perhaps it would be prudent to take a look, despite the distance. How safe are the Scaratone Empire's borders?

On the opposite end of the spectrum, to the east of Ogir Crater, there is still that shimmering structure visible in the distance. To Boss Bawss's knowledge, no ogre or elf has traveled quite that far before, and the dwarves have kept to the underground. Maybe it's worth checking out...

Finally, the flying beasts are back- the nocturnal, elusive creatures that plagued the ogres' nighttime sleeping hours ever since the ogres settled at the oasis. The flying creatures continue howling into the night, and a few grow bolder, raiding the outskirts of the settlement. No defensive action is really necessary right now, but perhaps an all-out offensive, to root out the source of these creatures, might be called for...!

B1, C1, we don't want either of these things to catch us off guard.

A3, C3, we need to specialize and also we should check up on cuddles.

E - Healing could be a big use in the coming battle.
E AGAIN - We've got a huge Elf-Tree we needs to take care of, boyz. Climate control in the desert could be big. That and, you know, Necromancy book. OH GODS THE NECROMANCY.

C1 - We will hunt them, and Squiggles Irwin will make them OURS. All will fall before the UNSTOPPABLE FRIENDSHIP.
Which direction were the evil bugs coming from? A1/B1 whichever that is for either helpful allies or a place to send our Ogre Forces.

C3. SO. HARD. We want to know everything. What do demons eat. Fear? What do they want? Fear?

A3 - 10 Rockkiteers. 10 Riders. And Squiggles needs to take one some apprentices. And So does Gubbins. Also, that one guy, who knew of the mysteries of cooking? Head chef. Give him 4 apprentices. For he is a Wizard.

And not B3. We've delved too far into the dark side of Economics already. Let's stop while our economy is shit, and not make it worse.

>[X] Improve Settlement (Defensive): 33 - STUPID LUCKY

The first thing Celicia does when she wakes up in the morning? Haul herself up out of bed, grab a cigarette, and enjoy her first smoke of the day from the top of Daphnaia in her pajamas, looking down on Ogir Place and the desert beneath them.

... today, however, Celicia pauses just before lighting up her cigarette as she takes in the scene below her.

"I'll get you next time, Captain Ruoumoko!" The stock-standard Monster of the Week shrieks, surrounded by angry ogres and one incensed lava elemental/demigod. "You and your little ogres, too!!"

[NOT ON MY WATCH, FOUL VILLAIN! TODAY, YOU'RE... /FIRED/!] Ruoumoko quips, firing off a well-placed gout of lava that sends the Monster of the Week blasting off again, all of its evil plans ruined.

"Hurrah!" Gubbins cheers, as Ruoumoko dusts off his hands, the fiery humanoid looking every inch the hero of justice. The other ogres follow Gubbins' lead, cheering and clapping jerkily, almost as if stuck in the capricious throes of some sort of late 80's cartoon. "T'ank you, Captain Ruoumoko! If you hadn't stopped da evil mastermind with your amazing Lava Shield, our oasis woulda been fouled forever by acid rain! And by... /poisonous pollution/!" he breathes, barely daring to whisper those words.

[HO HO HO, THINK NOTHING OF IT, OGRE,] Ruoumoko laughs. [NOW, WHAT VALUABLE LESSON DID WE LEARN TODAY?]

"Don't piss where you drink!" The ogres parrot back. "An' don't piss in water!"

(Cont.)
>>
>>21878085
[GOOD! MY WORK HERE IS DONE... BUT YOURS IS JUST BEGINNING!] Captain Ruoumoko points over at the left golem arm of Ogir Place- which bears what looks like some sort of gigantic shield made entirely out of lava. Molten lava that defies gravity and physics by staying shield-shaped, instead of dripping all over the place and/or burning ogres by sheer proximity due to convection. [AS LONG AS OGIR PLACE CARRIES THAT SHIELD, NOTHING CAN HARM THE INHABITANTS LIVING ON OGIR PLACE- NOT RAIN, SLEET, SNOW, OR EVEN AIRBORNE ASSAULTS! NOW REMEMBER, OGRES...]

Captain Ruoumoko bursts into shimmering sparkles as his summon timer runs out. [THE POWER... IS YOURS!]

Up above the fracas, Celicia squints dully at the giant strapping lava shield and the cheering ogres for a few more moments before shaking her head in exasperation. "There's never anything good to watch on Saturday mornings," the elf mutters dourly as she lights her cigarette.

>Ogir Place has gained [LAVA SHIELD]! The living quarters (and Daphnaia) on top of the oasis are now mostly immune to bad weather, airborne assaults, and evil Saturday morning cartoon villains who wish to cause mayhem on unsuspecting ogres.
>Note: Ruoumoko does not wear spandex, nor will he ever.

>[X] Arms: 34 - Not So Good...

"Boss! Boss!"

Boss Bawss Fistboss turns as That Guy flags him down- the other ogre is beaming so widely that just about all his teeth are on display, including his tusks. "I thought of da bestest weapon EVER, Boss! Dis'll make a huge difference in da upcomin' battle!!"

The larger ogre tentatively allows himself to feel some rising excitement. "Oh, yah? Somethin' to help da Scaratones, like armor, or somethin' to make it harder for da Formichroma's big cheese to hit us wit' dat weirdo stuff of-"

"Nah, nah, nothin' like dat!" That Guy pulls out from behind his back a strange assortment of tools- one long stick with a string attached to both ends, some small sticks with feathers on one end and pointed rocks on the other end, and some strange container that could probably hold the pointed things. "I call it... da bow-an'-arrow!" That Guy says triumphantly.

Boss Bawss squints at the bow and the arrows. Then he turns and wordlessly points down toward the impromptu firing range at the foot of Ogir Place, where the ogres are busy practicing their marksmanship with their crude iron tubed rockkit launchers (and obliterating the targets they'd put up earlier).

That Guy stares down at the firing range. Then he stares at the bow and arrows in his hand, before dejectedly walking back toward his rock shanty, shoulders slumped.

(Cont.)
>>
>>21878648

>Bonus(?)

... BUT THE OGRE SPIRIT IS NOT SO EASILY DOUSED.

"Boss! Hey, boss!" That Guy crows about thirty seconds later. He quickly shows the fruits of his labor- one end of the bow is unstrung, and the now unattached end of the string is... tied to an arrow, creating some kind of incredibly pointless flail. "I call it... da CLOSE-RANGE BOW-AND-ARROW!" That Guy crows triumphantly.

Boss Bawss gives the weapon a solemn once-over before nodding his approval to That Guy. "Take it to da storehouse an' tell da others to make more," he rumbles gravely.

This is an EXCELLENT use of their materials.

>The ogres have invented [SHORT-RANGED BOW AND ARROW!]
>It's just a flail!
>Like- no, seriously, it's a stick with a string attached. And an arrow dangling from the other end of the string.
>W-Well, I mean, it's not TOTALLY useless, as it's a lighter, faster alternative to the Cracktus Sticks, but- um-

It refills fairly easily, man. It's be out of commission for like, one thread. That's the start of the war. While it means we can't Friendship this whole thing to a standstill if our luck sucks, I'm willing to accept that for reasons of plot. We won't get too deep that we can't save ourselves when the intervention comes back around.

Better this way, actually, so we don't end up wasting it on the first salvo and not have it for the counterattack.
>>
>>21879091

I see us finding the enemy village, and using our intervention to have Gubbins successfully pilot Ogir Place into the earth like he already planned, but without causing harm to the living quarters. Remember, that charge allows us to deny reality as much as we like.

Also, Blorp, you forgot to mention our super sweet OgreTech suit in Baws list of perks.
>>
>>21879035
There are many benefits other than camouflage. Make them fight illusions, or each other. Make them get lost. conceal weapons. Intimidate them with monsters. Confuse them till they think they're tripping balls. And trick people into thinking we're wearing different hats then we are.
>>
>>21879091

An adequate roll is more than good enough. No sense using Intervention if we don't know will come up in this and the next thread, since if we do use it we probably wont have it available.

>Magic: Learn Healing, Illusion Magic

The evening of that very same day sees Gubbins poring over some of the tomes they'd picked up from the Scaratones over their various diplomatic visits. His reading speed has really improved over the past few days. And he'd assumed that casting new schools of magic THEORETICALLY shouldn't be so hard, since they've gotten used to casting Geomancy.

... but it's still slow going. As in, completely locked into a standstill. Probably because Geomancy is a more /instinctual/ form of magic- geomancers control earth, earth is everywhere, and you just sort of reach into the earth around you and browbeat it into listening to you.

As far as Gubbins can figure, though, healing requires the caster to force happy mojo magic into the target, but with enough finesse to knit together complicated-looking muscle and bone groups and stuff without turning the target into a giant pulsing meatball or something. And then there's ILLUSION magic, which is making people's eyeballs making their BRAINS think that there's some image there when there really isn't...

After a few hours, Gubbins thinks he has the hang of illusion magic, after conjuring up a few spectral gibbering disembodied butts (and enjoying some laughs and giggles because hurr hurr butts). It's not easy, and the illusions look like something scrawled out in crayon and magic marker, but it's a start. Healing, on the other hand, is simply a no-go- until Gubbins holds one tome in each hand, and thinks the following sentence to himself:

Why not both?

(Cont.)
>>
>>21879390
Oh fuck. here we go.
>>
>>21879390
"So dis is wot you came up wit' for healin', then?" Boss Bawss rumbles thoughtfully, watching Gubbins' spellcasters get to work. Celicia stands next to him, her cigarette dangling forgotten from her lips as she flat-out /stares/ at the scene in front of them.

"Yah, boss!" Gubbins nods. "Usually, da heal spell is invisible, but I can't do da healin' without visualizin' some kinda illusion flowin' from me to da guy I'm tryin' to heal. Like... da healing spell has to piggyback onto da illusion spell, otherwise it won't work."

The two ogres (and one flabbergasted elf) watches with interest as one recently-trained ogre magi channels his one and only healing spell, conjuring up an illusion that flies directly to the target he intends to heal.

"BUTTS BUTTS BUTTS BUTTS," shrieks the giant spectral flying butt illusion of happy healing mojo, which slams and melds directly into the target's body in the manner of some sort of terrifying Frankenstein-esque horror movie. The illusion dissipates with one final, childish scream as the healing magic goes to work, showering the target in green sparkles and strange twinkly sound effects.

Boss Bawss Fistboss and Geomancer Gubbins chuckle to themselves. "Huhuhuh. Oh, butts, will ya never stop bein' funny?" Boss Bawss chortles, wiping a tear of mirth.

Celicia's cigarettes drops to the sand as she does a 180-degree pivot on one heel and marches back to Daphnaia, presumably to warn her fellow elves not to run away from any ogre healing spells. (Or just to curl up on her bed with her head under a pillow, either or).

>[X] [VOCATIONS] Divvy up the ogres and give 'em job classes!

Split the population up into their job classes in percentages! Starting values are as follows:
[90%] [Basic Ogres] (Stubborn! Can't drop below 50%.)
[5%] [Geomancers] (Geomancy I)
[2%] [Heallusionists] (Healing I, Illusion I)
[1%] [Rockkiteers] (Can use Rockkit Launchers)
[1%] [Rough Riders] (Can ride Naked Mole Ravagers)
[1%] [Airborne Calvary] (Can ride Giant Bats)

- 10% is the bare minimum needed for a group to be actually effective.
- 20% is the most cost-effective.
- 30% is the MOST effective; battle actions requiring use of this group will be almost always be successful (barring certain circumstances).
>>
>>21879752
10% geomancers 30% rokkiteers
>>
>>21879752

LET'S MAKE THIS COUNT!

10% Heallusionists
10% Geomancers
15% Rockkiteers
10% Rough Riders
5% Airborne Calvary

50% Ogres

We can mess around with these percentages in the future, right?

And as our population grows, smaller percentages could become more effective, right?
>>
>>21879752
Okay, 20% Geomancers, we're fighting underground, 10% Heallusionists, 10% Rough Riders, 10% Rockkiteers, 1% Airborne Cavalry 50% Basic Ogres.

Don't ask about the additional 1%.
>>

>>
>>21879752
+5% Geomancers (Total 10%)
+8% Heallusionists (Total 10%)
+19% Rockkiteers (Total 20%)
Leaves us eight to fiddle with however to see fit. My suggestion is to either take both the percent from the Rough Riders and Airborne Calvery so we have another 10% to use, either to put onto something, or to devote to RR or AC.
>>
>>21879752

DISTRIBUTION:

Basic Ogres - 50%
Geomancers - 20%
Heallusionists - 10%
Rockkiteers - 20%
>>
>>21879752
10 Geomancers, 20 Heallusionists, 10 Rockkiteers, 10 Airborne Calvary.
>>
>>21879752
50% Basic Ogres
10% Geomancers
10% Heallusionists
10% Rockkiteers
20% Rough Riders

We don't really need that many Rockkiteers because we got Elves on our side for sharpshooting, and since we're fighting bugs, likely underground, we don't need the Batriders right now.
>>
Considering the variety of answers you seem to be getting, how do you plan to choose which one, Blorp?
>>
>>21879752
I'd say give 20% to the Geomancers, 10% to the rough riders, 10% to the Heallusionist
>>
>>21879842
I can agree to this one.
>>
>>21879856
Don't forget we having the flying things to track, yet. Having enough batriders to use as a unit might turn lower rolls to more effective ones, there.
>>
>>21879864
Prrrrrrrobably by looking at the general trend to the answers and seeing how many people choose the same kinds of answers (i.e. do more people favor more rockkiteers, or want more geomancers, etc).

... y-yeah, I'll have to think of a better way to phrase this choice set next time.
>>

>>
>>21879918

>>

all of them can use it instinctively. Am guessing train Geomancers are able to do more complex stuff.
>>
>>21879931
>>21879939

Think of it more as a natal defense.

So if an Ogres is about to get killed, they can do Geomancy to try and save their life.

At least, thats how I think of it.

Anyway, before we decide, lets find out what each one can do and how easily they're put together.

Can bat riders drop explosive stuff or big rocks on enemies? How useful are they inside the various tunnels and stuff that we may fight in?

How easy is it to train rockkiteers? How many can we use at once, like a firing squad?

What about Geomancers? Can Gubbins coordinate a bunch to do magic individually, or can he simple use their power to augment his own? Can he take it from all Ogres or only trained ones?

How viable are mole riders? Can they cling to any surface in a tunnel to run down our buggy foes? Are they effective with armor and weapons or does it slow them down to much?

Are illusionist well trained or do they just like the butts? Can we pair them with Elves, so they can point out with Ogre needs help at the most crucial a time and defend them during a fight?

And finally, our basic Ogres, what are they armed with? Armour and crack-tus sticks? Do they know any tactics or anything?

Answers please Blorp?

>Questions

... OKAY LET'S SEE

>Can bat riders drop explosive stuff or big rocks on enemies? How useful are they inside the various tunnels and stuff that we may fight in?

Yes, bat riders can drop things- that's at least a third of their potential use right there. Their effectiveness underground depends on the location; there'll probably be tight small tunnel fighting, but just as easily (and quite likely), the fight could be taken to the larger caverns under Scaratone Hive.

>How easy is it to train rockkiteers? How many can we use at once, like a firing squad?

Rockkiteers are stupidly easy to train- it's as easy as using a crack-tus stick, really. Take iron tube, have the boss or an important NPC tell you it's a rockkit launcher, and then point and shoot and make a cool explode-y noise!

... also, as many as you can fit into a line, really! Unless some other way is found for the ogres.

>What about Geomancers? Can Gubbins coordinate a bunch to do magic individually, or can he simple use their power to augment his own? Can he take it from all Ogres or only trained ones?

... Yes.

>How viable are mole riders? Can they cling to any surface in a tunnel to run down our buggy foes? Are they effective with armor and weapons or does it slow them down to much?

They can cling, they can dig, and they can carry the full weight of an ogre and all the ogre's own equipment (EXCLUDING Bawss's Ogretek Armor) without being slowed down.

>Are illusionist well trained or do they just like the butts? Can we pair them with Elves, so they can point out with Ogre needs help at the most crucial a time and defend them during a fight?

It'll be situational (and will probably require some sort of roll, depending on what illusions you guys want), but butts are very much preferred.

Also, yes, elf-buddy-system is a possibility, though there may be better uses of the elves' skills.

>And finally, our basic Ogres, what are they armed with? Armour and crack-tus sticks? Do they know any tactics or anything?

Basically, any armor and any melee weapon. They'll listen to their boss's orders as much as any other group. Their biggest draw is that these ogres will fight pretty much to the death; if ogres from this group get dead or injured or taken out of commission, it won't have an impact on any of the specialized groups.

What happens if we use the Moles as Artillery mounts (carrying a barrage of Rock-et launchers), have them line the tunnel completely, and slowly march forward, getting the good bugmen to reload them (presuming that they can cling to walls)

Oh, and get the Geomancers to reinforce the walls and continue to build the tunnel, so that any evil bugmen have to attack us throughout this tunnel, or we'll bore our way straight into their central hive and release a massive flock of bat riders to bomb the fuck out of their hive (also presuming the dwarves trust us with explosives)

I'm thinking we save the cool mixed vocations for when we advance our civilization. Make that [DISCOVERY] button more tempting to vote for, you know?

Overnight government? Sounds about right.

Working on it. It really is almost done. I SHOULD have had it done for this thread, but I got distracted. I blame the Steam sales. Anyway, I will have it ready for next Monday*

*All dates tentative to ADD

>>21880245

Yeah, I need to get the "compact" mode done. I just got way farther on gaint robo mode because, ya know, giant robots.

>>21880260

Maybe? The other drawfag would actually probably better suited to this one. His faces are much more expressive. I could try one I get done with the others, but no promises yet. Though I really want to do a drawing of Cecilia at some point. And the bat riders. And half a dozen other cool things. My big limit is time, so I will do what I can.

>"Ogres' realization that WE ALL GEOMANCERS NOW before Boss Bawss got that shit under control" bonus material I promised to write from like a month ago

Somehow, for some reason unknown to everyone but the gods, the ogres of Ogir Place all gained some measure of instinct-triggered magical ability, allowing them to manipulate the forces of the earth itself with naught but a mere thought.

About five minutes later, Boss Bawss and Celicia are clinging onto the edge of Ogir Place for dear life as the sand/dirt/otherwise solid earth of Ogir Place ripples like disturbed water, the entire rocky structure horribly buffeted by the sheer volume of geomantic magic being forced through it.

"THIS FUCKING SHIT HAS TO STOP," Celicia yells to Boss Bawss, trying to be heard over the rumbling sound of dozens of ogres trying to forge giant butt statues out of the rock in order to properly krump their opponents.

"WHAT?" Boss Bawss yells back over the sound of scattered ogres falling off the side of Ogir Place, only to be caught by big earthen hands that pop out of the side of the rock (and briefly making Ogir Place look, from the distance, like some sort of terrifying mutating tentacled monster).

"I SAID, THIS SHIT HAS TO STOP!" Celicia screams back, her voice almost hoarse from yelling over the sound of the very earth cracking, grinding, and re-forming beneath their feet.

"OGRES," Boss Bawss yells out. "DAT KINDA GEOMANCY DON'T WORK UNLESS YOU'RE SERIOUSLY IN DANGER OR SOMETHIN'."

Instantly, the geomantic magics stop flowing back and forth, and all is still again as Boss Bawss's new ironclad rule of magical physics, one that has always been around forever since two seconds ago, suddenly goes into effect.

And that's the story of how Boss Bawss saved the entire world from being split apart into giant rapidly-cooling molten chunks drifting endlessly in space.

... complex mixed classes will probably have to be a discovered thing later! Though for getting them experimented with earlier, rolls will probably need to be had.

>>21880430
yes good, fellow giant robot enthusiast

Seriously, thanks for the art- it's seriously a strange and wonderful feeling to get fanart for something like this, and at such a high quality, holy shit. I look forward to your other drawings!

Also, that one picture I keep posting of Celicia is... basically pretty much how I've come to envision her, for some reason! This is partially because I seriously could not find any other pictures of gun-toting elves that didn't look like something out of a goth loli magazine or a lesson in how not to dress for a battle.

Also, I am rapidly losing coherency so I think it's time for me to sleep like for reals. Night all!

Before this quest is done, Your picture is going to be Celicia.

Except with Ogres.

Thanks for the thread, as always.

Now go to sleep, before Papa Nurgle decides you are not getting enough love.

Can we make rokkit cavalry of rokkit riders?

I swear moot made these captchas fail 90% of the time to make us buy passes
>>
>>21880286
Ok new plans for the intervention

We teach our Ogres to fire rokkits from the backs of moles or bats so that we can rain krumpin down on dem bad buggy men
