I see no reason not to join in. FTL travel in this setting is done via a use of Subspace gates, These gates are old, like predates the formation of subspace old and they can come in any size. Nanoscale gates can be used for communication for instace and There's a gate at the edge of Sol System formerly obscured by a cloud of particles that are apparently a waste product of the gate's power supply.

The more people research the gates the more they're forced to come to the conclusion that they are the product of a truly ancient culture, specifically a human culture.

But you know, the entire continent is a fucking battleground. Civies are in it too, they can affiliate themselves with one of the many corporations, and have special events. Kinda like the bloodbath challenges from Madworld.
