You are Oberst Hans Landa, a Combat Engineer with the Third Reich who has an extensive knowledge of civil engineering. An asset to the Reich, which is what landed you a promotion to Oberst for this secret operation.

You have traveled, via magical means, to an unknown world. A world that you suspect holds much more dark and powerful secrets than even your superiors could have ever hoped for. You have brought with you a small army, and have settled in and fortified a location near your arrival point. You have repelled a large warband of Kobolds and Ogres, led by Ironmaw, the most vicious of them all. Having repelled the group with minimal losses, your current holding appears secure.

>September 5th, 1939. 7:45 AM local time. Location Unknown. Day 3

Your morning begins on a good note. You're able to wake up, get served coffee at the mess hall, grab a meal of some eggs and a portion of freshly caught fish (the local varieties reminded you of fish for some reason), and you get to review the notes from the work that took place while you were resting. Plus, you get to nurse away your hangover a bit from the post-victory celebrations.

All wounded men from the battle will recover fully, thankfully, though the dead are a lost cause. Dr. Klein, working late into the night, was able to successfully defang and claw the prisoners in addition to his surgery duties. You currently have three ogres and eleven Kobolds in various states of awareness and health caged inside of steel bars, carefully (and hastily) welded together by your engineers. You doubt even the Ogres, were they not wounded, would be able to so much as nudge the solid steel beams. With the double latch mechanism installed, it's a perfect, portable prison for your captives.

Dr. Buren also reports that her interrogation of the Kobold prisoner from Gunther's raid was quite successful. Though a common language is not shared, she was able to have it confirm that there are other settlements, as well as that the encampment was-- indeed-- the one where the majority of them were operating out of. Your facility should be secure for some time, barring outside circumstances. She's still working on the language issue, though, and has filed a request for additional prisoners to interrogate and collaborate stories with.

Gabriella has filed a request for a Science Lab [Basic] to be built. A two-story building a bit larger than your command post, it would be mostly built out of wood, with level concrete for the floor. Very basic, but enough to at least study out of.
>ETA: 7 Days.

You also have a report from the engineers: The improved machine gun nests, with a level concrete firing platform, wood paneling, and some camouflage brush will require an additional two days to complete, progress already well underway for the northern wall.

The Command Post itself is complete, and Gretta seems quite pleased as the radio antennae goes up, tripling the broadcast and reception range. You have a clear line back to base, for what little good it may do you.

And on a final, slightly humorous note, the auxiliary latrines were quickly dug out near the motor pool, a subtle reminder of why Hans shouldn't disregard protocol, albeit in the heroic fashion he so did.

Day Three has arrived. What shall you do now?

>>
>>21813362
The river does, indeed, have fish. The men, on their off time, are encouraged to fish. The fish here are exotic and different from those on Earth, but edible. They're supplementing current rations to a moderate degree.

>>21813359
But what? There's not exactly an abundance of people around, and those reptilian things-- while declawed and defanged-- seem downright gross.
>>
>>21813362
We have, they're quite edible.

>>21813317
>>21813379
Lets put Gabriella's request on the queue as well as more advanced medical facilities. I'd rather the triage tent not just be basic if we can help it.

Get people onto filling the water storage drums, just in case.

>>21813359
No rape, we'll seduce the twins and Dr. Buren in time.
>>
>>21813435

Seduction? We're her commanding officer. We can order to have sex with us atop the battered corpse of one of the subhumans. We've earned a celebration.
>>
>>21813469
We might be able to do that, but it seems like a rather bad idea to get on the bad side of our chief scientist, our radio operator, and one of our best doctors.
>>
But what ausf is the Panzer?! WHAT AUSF!!!!

This is actually pretty important, I might add, cause if we have the high velocity gun it could potentiall come in handy
>>
>>21813525

>Implying she wouldn't like it

>>21813469
/d/ pls go
>>
The trolling attempts in this thread are so shitty..

Lets get a small science facility built!
>>
>>21813564
Ausf. C, one of the newest models yet to be produced.

Hans runs it like a demon, though, and keeps it in good care. You suspect it might have a few modifications that aren't standard, but Hans likely wouldn't do anything risky with it.

>>21813435
There are two main options for production:
>Surgical Hospital [Basic]
>ETA: 5 Days. Stone floors, two floors, and an independent generator for power supply outside of the base's generators if there's a shortage of power. Also has a dedicated operating theatre separate from the checkup wards. Think the surgery room from MASH.

>Infirmary [Basic]
>ETA: 3 Days. Doesn't have the backup generator or dedicated OR, but has increased room for basic to moderate injuries, with the same stone floor and wooden walls. More like a doctor's office, but can handle more volume.

Additional options, or modifications, can be made.
>>
>>21813683
I think the Surgical hospital, it's better for major operations.

We might want to attach more to it so it can handle more volume though.
>>
>>21813643
>>21813435
>Science Lab [Basic] added to construction queue.

Relaying the orders to Gretta, the woman would send them out in turn. The construction materials you brought with you are being put to very good use, and it's been barely half a week. It's not a schloss by any means, but it's home for now.

"Also, sir, I was thinking: Perhaps we could build a spotlight in the middle of camp? The men on patrol might find some use for it, and I doubt it'd take long... We could even put some speakers on it and use it as a broadcast station for the camp!" She offers energetically, smiling.

Which is true: A basic steel pole with some power cables, eighty feet tall, would be enough to provide a spotlight with 360 degree coverage of the base. It'd help illuminate the forests and anything else you wish while active during the night, but it'd also be a beacon to any outside forces. A PA might improve morale, but also have the risk of being heard outside of camp.
>>
>>21813683

Aww well, it mounts the Low Velocity gun, provided we have enough ammo for it, if need be it'd act as an effective howitzer.

Hrmm seems to me if our squads each have medics they can tend to the least threatening wounds while the Doctor treats the worst of any wounds sustained.

Additionally if we have spare time it might be prudent to get the doc to get the medics up to snuff for some more serious stuff. I assume we have at least SOME medicines on stock?
>>
I think we should start working on diplomacy. We should ask Eric if we could get in contact with his baron. We should also try to get more rings and marble for recharging until we have learn their language.
>>
>>21813379
Tack the research lab on after the warehouse, as much as I would like to say before we need safe storage before we need labs

OP did you ever play original war? This has a lot of the same feel to it
>>
Herr Oberst,

If we intend to stay here, i suggest creating a concrete wall with pillboxes around the gate. This way we may defend it, and restrict access to infiltrators.
In addition we can use the structure to protect the vehicles. Then construct all of the improved buildings within. This way our science personnel are protected, and can pass between the lab complex and other buildings without danger.
>>
>>21813761
Only problem I can see with this is what is our situation on Diesel? Tanks are thirsty, and generators don't just sip at it. I'd rather not just throw away Diesel in a situation like this before we can get our own facilities up and running, or at least have a lot more on hand.

Other thought, a possible campaign of deforestation should accompany our campaign of extermination of the Kobolds.

Final thought, ask High Command what day it is and how long we've been gone. If only to establish definitively the time offset is.

>>21813795
Agreed. We need to figure out what our options are diplomatically and Eric should be sufficiently awed by our power.
>>
>>21813795
Seconding this right here.
>>
>>21813761
We've already made our presence kinda well known in the surrounding area, I don't mind putting that up. Anybody who is nearby enough to nice those will probably notice us anyways.

Also we might want to look into alternative fuel sources for the generators, we need the diesel for the tanks and other vehicles. Though it's much easier to get fuel for diesel engines, you can make it out of a lot of things.
>>
What I think we should consider setting up is a rental agreement with the baron, we rent this area and pay a fee, so that we have a place for a permanent trading post.

The less we behave as agressors, the less they will feel threatened by us.
>>
This is stupid.
You're stupid.
>>
>>21813914
Actually i think he should pay US! We are afterall, much better monster killers. Huh?
>>
>>21813914
I don't think we even have to pay rent. We cleared out a nasty band of kobolds and ogres, they aren't going to ask us to pay to set up camp here.
>>
>>21813925
Your racial stock is stupid.
>>
>>21813925
Fuck you too mate.

>>21813914
This has merit, but I don't want that to set the tone for our future relations. I don't want this baron/duke/whatever to think he has power over us because we pay him money for land.

Maybe we could work out a long term "lease" or just make some overt references to how please die Führer would be if he would cooperate with us...

Oh and we killed that menace that you were trying to kill, so could we pretty please get to stay here?

Even tho Nazi's never say pretty please.
>>
>>21813805
I did not! But added regardless.

>>21813780
That is the current situation. Medics are able to handle wounds enough to stabilize the men for surgery, where Dr. Klein and Dr. Buren are able to tend to the men. Granted, the former is the expert surgeon between them.

>Influence Check
>Influence Check Passed
Dr. Klein, although a bit overworked at the moment, would respond to your request promptly, smiling and nodding, "Yes, sir." He says, "It wouldn't be a problem for me-- especially considering your help of me before. I'll put in double shifts until the medics can handle some of the basic aspects of surgery. They won't be stitching arms back on, but they should at least be able to treat the arrow and stab wounds I've dealt with so far. Should take a couple weeks at most."

>>21813795
You currently have two rings of translation fully charged that remain. Each ring grants 10 minutes of total comprehension and ability to converse freely, and a severely reduced time if reading is attempted.

Do you wish to use one of the rings to relay your request?

>>21813821
The Gate, which is the magical portal you arrived by, is currently closed until the end of the month when home base will have recharged it.

Creating such fortifications is more than doable, however, for both your main base and the Gate itself.

Concrete walls will take two weeks to build around the base itself. It will take one week for just the Gate itself, with an additional seven days to add concrete pillboxes for each case.
>>
>>21813925
Man aren't you the guy who was butt mad about it being nazis in the first game.

pls leave to Israel
>>
>>21813761

No easily visible structures for now, Gretta. Maybe later.

For now, concentrate on the projects we have, have the wermacht infantry, when not on watch or sleeping, work on reinforcing their own holes or doing grunt work to assist the engineers. Keeping the men busy will keep their minds off the losses and their current location.
>>
>>21814003
No, this is the first time I see this thread.
And I think it's stupid.
>>
>>21814000

No concrete structures for now, we don't even have a company of troops, we simply don't have the manpower for that size of project right now.

Baby steps, gentlemen. First we'll get a functioning operating base, then next month we'll get more supplies, engineers, and infantry, with a second PzIV, and some mortars. THEN we can start working on hardened fortifications, at least for our base, and some basic standing patrols along the gate.
>>
>>21813825
>>21813866
You're currently at about 96% fuel stock. The trucks haven't been run that much, and the tank was only active for a short period of time. Besides that, the generators consume perhaps 1% of your fuel each day, collectively speaking. At the end of today, you'll be at about 95% fuel. If you insist on fuel rationing with the generators, running only the bare minimum as far as lighting and other such things goes, you can cut that down to .5% per day, freeing up fuel for more operations.
>>
>>21814006
>>21814041

Well, I agree, but nobody really likes mercenaries or having mercenaries around.

Our mere presence is going to cause a crisis considering the reaction Eric has shown us so far. I think that we should appear as we have nothing to gain or have any interest of conquest until we know more about the current political situation.

We know that marble is expensive in this world and that their magic is fueled by marble. Hence it is rational to believe that they think that our weapons also are expensive to operate, by acting none-aggressive we further reinforce this hypothesis.
>>
>>21814042
Well that's comforting to know, while I expected German Logistics to carry the day, I didn't expect to be as full up as we are actually on diesel.

Could we do some basic scouting around the area with a squad of Wehrmacht? And in the meantime get Eric to see about his liege. If he can't find him after a week, we'll have to see about maybe changing our current ideas.
>>
>>21814124

We need to figure out if Eric can read and write, if their written language is phonetical. Then we can have him write down the most common phrases. But we should first ask if he can help us get more/better magic translation and about his baron and if it would be possible to arrange an audience.
>>
>>21814124
You have several directions you can travel for scouting. All are available, and it is up to you which you pursue.
>[ ] West, along the road that's already there
>[ ] Attempt to ford the river to the east
>[ ] North, back to the manor and razed village, and perhaps even farther yet.
>[ ] South, to the rather tall stone tower.

You also put the men to work, or at least those not busy patrolling. They're toiling diligently, seemingly happy at having plenty of work to do. Morale is actually pretty high, all things considered, which is a clear indicator of your early success.
>>
>>21814124
Next thought (apologies for semi-stream of conscious here).

We've pretty much announced that we're here and we shouldn't be messed with. I see no harm in errecting the lights/PA system, anybody else have any opinions on them?

>>21814160
Good point, let's put together a list of things we want from Eric.

>Can he read/write
-->if so is their language phoenitcal
---->if so, can he write down the most common phrases and how to say them for us?

>can Eric get us access to more/better magical translation tools

>Does Eric have any clues about his liege's current status
-->if so, can he see about arranging an audience?
-->if not, does he have any idea about where/how he'd start the search?

------
>>21814184
Stone tower.... sounds like a job for Gunther and his goon squad once they're healed up, probably with a squad of Wehrmacht to provide some back up should things go south. (bad pun, I apologize)
>>
>>21814000
>Do you wish to use one of the rings to relay your request?

Yes. We should also ask him if he has seen anything like the gate before.

If the charging rules apply to the gate as well as other magic items, we might be able to decrease its charge time by placing marble next to it.
>>
>>21814184
[X] South, to the rather tall stone tower.

Also post some sentries on our end of the road, we should be able to see anyone coming from a fair distance.
>>
>>21814160
>>21814124
Eric doesn't speak the same language as you, though the two remaining rings are able to translate what he says (and what you say to him in turn). It's up to you if you want to use one, or have Dr. Buren use one, or have Gabriella use one as well. It's up to you who takes what, but you only have three rings with a charge. You also have the lead-lined case with the marble in it, which might be able to recharge one of the spent rings.

How, you're not quite sure, but that's what the scientists are for, isn't it?
>>
>>21814211

I dunno, squad of wehrmacht, a blitz, and enough supplies for a few days travel (call it 5, 2 out, 2 in, 1 for wiggle room) is a chunk out of what we have currently, while I definitely think we should do some exploring I don't know how well that will work out when we're as short handed as we are.
>>
>>21814214

Recce mission to the stone tower:

Primary asset: Gunther + SS Commandoes fit for duty
Backup: 1 Squad of Wermacht Infantry

Transport: 2 Sdkfz 251 Half-Tracks

Additional assets: Sdkfz 247 scout car
Opel Blitz

Deatils: Area recce of the tower via motorized recon, then foot recce of the tower itself by the commandoes. Self-defense fire only, we're still vulnerable.

Recover any "magical" assets, books, and any supplies you may think are useful, if the tower is abandoned. If occupied, act friendly.

If attacked, defend yourselves, but break contact and RTB. We'd need a proper assault plan for a tower and this is only a recce mission.
>>
>>21814214
Cant we just have Eric us it? That should allow us all three the benefit of translation, or does that drain it faster?

You write out your list of requests, grabbing one of the remaining rings before approaching him. The man, as well as the three other women servants recovered from the Manor, had all congregated in the mess hall. They were busy being fascinated by the tin mugs full of coffee and the exotic, foreign "rations" that you and your men are eating.

You also notice that Eric seems to be observing the conversations going on. Apparently he's rather curious about just what "German" is.

"I am, indeed, literate, sire." He informs you, once you make it clear that you're able to speak -his- language now (but not for long). "I-- Yes. I can write out phrases. Surely you can as well?" He asks, curiously, "The language in the capital isn't that different, is it?"
>>
At your other questions, Eric nods twice, "More magical equipment? There is the somewhat temperamental Magi Arthur. His dominion is in the tower to the south-- But he is very ill-tempered to visitors, often seeking to stay in his reclusive palace. He is, however, bound by the Emperor's laws, and will assist the Emperor's servants when so ordered." He assures you, smiling, "As for the Baron... Yes. The city of Redding is a week's travel on foot to the west. Perhaps a quarter of that on one of your magnificent metal war beasts. Once there, Baron Farnsworth would be foo-- I mean, he would be quite unwise to deny you an audience." He asserts, bowing his head.

Gunther's wounded men will be back to operational status in two weeks. As far as the Wehrmacht, you still have four squads fully functional at this point, if with a bit of temporary reorganization.

For now, one of those squads is covering the western road, pending further investigation. A small outpost, consisting of little more than a watch tower with some bedrolls and lanterns, would take about three days to erect, and have enough cover and room for one squad.
>>
>>21814385

What are you talking about? We've got effectively 8 squads right now, discounting our half-strength wermacht squad.

Assuming the recce mission and the OP construction happen simultaeneously, yes, we'd need to stop most of the work on the base as we'd only have a squad of engineers avaialble, plus some of the vehicle crews, but we need adequate forces to recce the area of that wizard, even if only for a basic map.

Also, Ober, how many of our combat engineers are trained in mapping?
>>
>>21814424
"Ach, we are not from here, that is why we require your rings in order to talk to you. Also, those trucks are not beasts, and their maintainers would resent the implications, they are but wonderful contraptions running on Science and principles originally discovered by Germans!"

I suggest we write down some basic German phrases and how to pronounce them for Eric, just a basic vocabulary and what they mean, basically go through the first week of German I from High School.

Also, inquire into the status of those who were under his command, it's only polite and helps cement his impression of us as relatively decent people, even tho his first meeting was with Gunther and his Goonsquad...
>>
I feel that it is probably in our best interest to clear up this issue of mistaken identity.
>>
>>21814424

Fuck watchtowers, make a proper, naturally camoflaged OP suitable for a half-squad. We can rotate in the detail daily, and have the other half assist the engineers
>>
>>21814538
THIS! We need to explain that we are german-friends from a distant land! Here to trade and learn!

Also, we should reserve the last ring for seeking out the mage, we should also bring Eric to explain that we seek help in translation and might be able to provide marble
>>
>>21814591
>>21814591
This, no need to broadcast our presence via watchtowers when we can have a semi-ostentatious "main" "base" and keep our OP's camouflaged until it's time to demonstrate Superior Firepower to these primitives.

You decide to clarify for him,

"We are not the Emperor's men-- we are foreigners, men from the distant land of Germany."

He goes wide-eyed at this, "... Foreigners? You're foreigners, and you have firewands of such potency and power?" He asks, clearly alarmed by this. You raise your hands in a placating gesture,

"Please, please, Eric, do not be alarmed!" You say, directing one of your men to write out the alphabet as you talk. You're down to five minutes, according to your watch.

"One of my men is writing down the basics of our alphabet and language, enough for you to speak the basics." You clarify, "We are here to trade and learn! We come in peace, using the science of Germany to carry us, not metal beasts!"

He seems a bit overwhelmed by this, but eventually nods, "Okay... It makes a bit of sense now." He mentions, "I... Can take you to the Baron, if you want, yes." He tells you eventually, thinking things over heavily.

You have about three minutes' charge left.

>>21814516
About a third of the engineers, including yourself, are trained in mapping. That's six combat engineers total.

>>21814591
>>21814637
A camouflaged OP will work much better in terms of resources and time. Using basic camo netting and binoculars, you could have something rudimentary erected in a single day, though it will be-- in summary-- little more than a small observation post with camouflage and some sandbags for cover.
>>
>>21814673
You have retrieved a number of documents, which Gabriella is now going through, after clearing out the library. A map may be present amongst them, but it's slow going for now as you attempt to understand the language and connect phrases to actual meanings.
>>

That's the entire point of an OP!

As for the mapping trained engineers, have them compile a list of tools and materials they need and don't yet have to begin their cartography of the area, we'll need accurate maps for when we get mortars and howitzers through.

Begin construction of the OP, and ask Eric about the wizard to the south, since we're going to need to make contact with him.
>>
>>21814802
I almost feel sorry for the guy.

It's gone now.

Okay, let's ask him how they recharge their devices, since it is likely different from our own methods.

Let's get those engineers doing some surveying work once we have the manpower to take away from our main construction effort.

Once Eric writes out his Common Phrases, make sure we get the words for Map.

Any other questions for our bewildered native?
>>
>>21814802
Is there any way for us to know our current altitude? This would help by leaps and bounds if we have a topo map in the spoils
>>
>>21814847
Also, given the cause of most of our casualties in the previous battles, make sure all positions have some form of solid roof (if only planking). That should defend well against arrows and javelins raining down from above.

>>21814853
Ask him how extensive the baron's lands are, what rules govern settling on them, and whether we are breaking any of them. We won't move if we are of course, we may just need to be aware of the need to come to an arrangement for the time being.
>>
Well I would think I would be a good idea to apply for increased resources for the mission, and to increase geological survey so we can find out what actual worth this has for Der Vaterland?

And also try flatten a field enough so we might get a makeshift landing strip (primarily for a scout plane (Messerschmitt Bf 163 (not needing a very long runway) would be a good option))
>>
>>21814933

No aircraft, too many specialised parts, fuel use is atrocious, and we can't afford the gap in our lines right now. As for the increased resources, first we need enough troops to hold a large enough position to support trade with the locals and our civilian staff.
>>
>>21814933
>>21814961
Perhaps this world holds a better flying scout for us, like ornithopters, or griffins. We haven't explored very far yet.
>>
>>21814933
I would love to get some aerial photography so we can get a a more detailed overview of the closest area plus with a plane we can cover basic scouting of a large radius in a short amount of time
>>
>>21814933
A geological survey would be great we could find out what deposits are in this world and the abundance that they occur in. Why didn't we bring a geologist or a geological engineer with us?
>>
We ought to talk to this Arthur. Someone familiar with the occult of this land would be incredibly useful both in support of our standing here, and in support of the war effort back in Europe. I say a personal visit with a squad of men, a translation ring, Eric, and the lovely Gabriella is in order.
>>
>>21815076

Civilians don't go outside the wire, you dolt.

Not yet, at least.

I vote for my recce plan as outlined here >>21814278, but with Eric being the diplomatic assistant to get a meeting with the Wizard. Once we have that, we'll head down in person to negotiate.
>>
>>21815035
Using animals would most likely imply taming and training of the beast (not to mention finding such in the first place) and also training of personnel to "ride" it. Anyways I think clearing a larger portion of the forest around the camp is a good idea for better overview (and in the future perhaps the foundation of an airstrip) , this I forgot to mention first.

>captcha: inkmage recesses
>>
>>21815123
I vote for your plan
>>
>>21815143
If such a beast were trainable, we would probably find them in service to the people here anyway. Maybe we could hire them, if we found them, and attach cameras to their mounts. All pure speculation, of course.
>>
>>21815143
I agree here.
Training the beasts won't be as easy as strapping a saddle to it, even if we managed it training our scouts to use them is a further issue

I think we can put off worrying about air superiority until we are more entrenched and self sufficient but even a single fighter squadron would be an immense boost to our capabilities and even a single bomber would make us near invincible against their fortifications since we could attack them from beyond the reach of even spells

The other advantage is mobility where the artillery could do a better job of destroying our enemies we could fly a plane to their camp and wipe out half their forces before anyone knew what was happening

Again this is long term though, we would need months if not a year or so preparation to do this

"Simply keeping the ring close to the marble shall work, sire, to recharge it, according to the instructions of the Baron's mages." He informs you, patiently writing out a few words of his own next to the German ones. A workable translation, at least.

>>21814933
>>21814961
>>21815069
Being part of the first wave, your Combat Engineers are fully equipped for both cartography and geologic surveys. Though they won't be able to do very extensive evaluations, they can at least test the local 'arrival zone' for deposits of oil, iron, or anything else of value.
>>
>>21815308
Your current altitude is unknown, as you have no immediate frame of reference.

>>21814925
"I am not aware of just how extensive the baron's lands are, but they span many smaller villages and towns, just as this one did. He rules from the city-- though I know nothing of the settlement laws, all these lands belong to the Empire."

>>21815076
>>21815123
>>21815147
You decide that an expedition to make contact with Arthur would be best, and lay out the appropriate orders for the expedition. Do you wish to accompany them?

Furthermore, you have two minutes left on the ring. What do you ask last, if anything?
>>
>>21815314

Any defenses on the tower, how best to approach, any ritual greetings, anything like that. Give Eric the last ring and place the spent one in the box to recharge it. Let him know to use it once he's talked with Arthur and knows what will happen next.
>>
>>21815314
I doubt then they would let us build upon swelling soil like Pierre Shale
>>
>>21815314
I think we should accompany them, this is going to be a hopefully diplomatic mission, and we'll want to be there.

We'll probably want to take a ring with so we can talk to the wizard.
>>
>>21815314
Ask him to escort the us and the group to Arthur to translate and advise on customs etc
Hopefully we can intrigue him with technology so that he teaches us about magic in return
>>
>>21815380

We aren't heading out to start, we're hanging back like any good CO would. We wait until we have confirmation of our objective, then we move in.
>>
>>21815380
If we're doing pure reccee then we shouldn't accompany, if we're doing diplomacy I think we should accompany.

Either way, I don't think we should allow Gunther and his goons anywhere near this tower, send them North? East? Pulling Guard/Recovery duty?
>>
>>21815472

They're leading the recce along with Eric.

They're pulling security, but under strict orders.

If you think it'd be a bad idea, swap them out for watch duty and send a second wermacht squad.
>>
>>21815496

I'm on the fence about allowing Gunther anywhere near these people, especially since this Wizard might very well be nowhere close to what we consider racially okay. I can see the SS going batshit crazy over the Wizard being twisted, putting us in a terrible setting to try and negotiate with them.

Explaining this to Gunther however.... I love the guy but I think he's more of a liability in this situation.
>>
>>21815314
Yes, accompany the squad. Landa has second thoughts about using Gunther... after all, even SS commandos need time to rest. They have had a very busy day and night. Better to take two squads of the Wermacht infantry!
(We don't need a potentially insubordinate and compulsively violent man around during delicate negotiations.)
>>
>>21815524
We tread dangerous ground with potential enemies of unknown strength and disposition. Be honest with him about your concerns.
>>
>>21815622
>trying not to metagame
>concerned about wizards,enchanters,summoners, ect.
>we need anti-magic asap.

He contemplates your final request, "... Alright. I'll accompany you, but I can't make any promises. He's very much a recluse, and even the local lordling didn't dare try and tread on his tower's grounds, outside of shipments of food traded for tribute to the Baron. Just... try not to give him any reason to start shooting off spells?"

That being done, you outline to your men for two men of Wehrmacht infantry to be sent in place of Gunther and his men. Considering Gunther's squad is at half strength, two full-strength squads is probably better anyways, though Gunther doesn't seem tired in the slightest.

"I want to go. My men can keep the wounded safe without me." He tells you, "I want to know as much as you do about the local situation... Oberst." He eventually concedes, likely knowing you'll accompany the group anyways.

You have enough charge in the ring left for one last question. Anything to ask, or save it for later, departing now?
>>
>>21815659

Take the other ring with us, ask Eric to handle the talking once we're there, only to gesture to us once we can speak to Arthur himself.
>>
>>21815659
Depart now
Have Gunther tag along as insurance / recon for us, have him 2IC this and handle the Wehrmacht while we work on the diplomacy
>>
>>21815659

Unless anybody has anything to say, let's just let Eric know of our gratitude of serving as a Translator for us. Can't hurt to earn some brownie points with him (and by extension the Baron) while we can.

"Gunther, I appreciate all you've done for us currently, but right now I need somebody to watch the base while I'm away. I trust you to use your best judgement to keep the base intact and safe. We'll have a radio with us, so if you need anything we're only a call away."
>>
>>21815722
Let's not patronize the huge, angry psychopath. He won't get pissy if we just go off and leave him to do his thing, we don't have to check in like some sort of indulgent father.
>>
>>21815805
True, cut that stupid last bit, damned if I know what I was thinking.
>>
>>21815805
I say we take him with us. Our defences will make a mincemeat of any attack whether he's there or not, but if things go sour with the mage, a good killer by our side might mean all the difference in the world.

Ask him to take a submachine gun, machine pistol and a couple of grenades. We should get some, too.

In close confines of a tower, those will be most useful, ignoring the possibility of lolbullshit magical defences.

Gunther seems content at you explaining his staying back as being in charge of the base in your absence.

Eric, for his part, almost looks eager to finally be able to ride again in the back of one of the transports. The two half-tracks idle in place as the Wehrmacht load up, Eric taking the half-track with you in it.

The Blitz and scout car hang back, similarly loaded down with extra supplies. Without further ado, you depart, the sun bearing down at your sides as you head towards the ancient stone tower to the south.

The entire time, you can't help but feel a sense that things will only get more difficult from here-on out. You've managed to perform well in your first few days, taking only minor losses, but you know that each loss is a trained soldier not easily replaced.

The men are hard at work as you finally depart, men and women laying down foundations, constructing the observation post, and charting the landscape with trained eyes and steady hands.

Success is possible.

But at what cost?

Heh. See you then.
Come to think of it, it's five in the morning here, and I've stuff due.

Ach I missed out on die thread!

Well I saw anti-magic mentioned earlier.

Remember when Eric said they line the marble boxes with lead? Dollars to Donuts lead has some sort of dampening effect on magic.
