Happy Thanksgiving, /tg/! Also known as "Thank Fuck The Puritans Are Gone Day." I know the odds are low of anyone being here, when they could be with family, eating far too much turkey and other delicious foods, but in case anyone IS up for it, it's time for Civilization Quest!

The previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21673404/

Hands and voices up people; who's here to play? If an insufficient crowd shows, I won't hold it against you, it being a holiday and all.

meh I should be good for a few hours still. Thankfully I don'r have to do the cooking.

Holy shit, you are on time! I completely forgot what day it was last Tuesday, so I missed it, but read archives...Rina serves Chani...righttt?

Things to remember for this thread:

>"Mikuhla is questioned about the nature of the Sun People and agrees to tell everything he knows. The Sun People live high in the foothills of the mountains, their village commanding a good deal of the land around. Their position means that they would see attackers almost at once. They number a little over four hundred and take well to animal husbandry, though the farmland nearby is poor and their farms have to be built at the base of the hills. They are cunning builders, mostly using copper tools, though he identifies that a few of them had bronze, though it seemed by no means widespread. They are ostensibly ruled by a council, but from what he could tell, one man held power, like a chief."

>ITS OVER FOUR HUNDRED!!!

>"The Wise Ones put their heads together, trying to come up with a way to breach the enemy's defences, should it come to such a battle. It doesn't take them long to create a crude battering ram, that could be re-produced easily 'in the field', carried by six people. Several other ideas, such as the Lion Tribe's balls of straw dipped in pitch are disregarded as too unreliable."

Awww, fuck yea, civ thread. Bumping this bitch.

Yay! We gonna play now!
>>
>>21703347
I have a plan for the war, we got a lot of information last thread such as:

Their farmers are mostly dead, which means their food stores will be lessened this year.

They are willing to leave their city to defend their farms, we can pull them into open combat

It does not seem that they have their god sup[porting them overtly, at least not as of yet.
>>
>>21703565

PARTA-AI!!!
>>
>>21703586

You need to do your speech at the festival imo. I know you kind of tried last thread, but it doesn't seem the point went across. |

Atm, I am thinking our troops need some experience following orders. We also need to establish a scouting system not to walk into traps. Then there is the matter of covering our ram.

At least, that's my .05 atm.
>>
>>21703347
Also, one more thing. At the moment it appears out army will outnumber their entire population. We have enough to send 200 soldiers, if each the lion tribe and the earth splitters bring 100 we'll outnumber them outright and their military probably 2 to 1.

All we need to do now is make armor, bows and arrow, convert two more carts to mobile shrines, make a sigil for the Riverlands Concord, and then shove off the month after the festival (which is in 2 months).
>>
>>21703586
Ahem, I should note that Derrik did not give an estimate of the enemy casualties when the scouts ransacked the farms. They didn't actually get particularly far, before they were run off by the counter-attack. Just putting that out there.

Well, there's more people here than I anticipated! Looks like my thread is officially better than pumpkin pie. ...That's really quite an achievement! I don't quite know what to say besides 'thank you' and 'on with the thread!'
>>
>>21703623
>convert two more carts to mobile shrines

What about the whole doing this "without the gods' help" thing? Or are we sweeping that under the carpet?

Also, I agree, but I think we need some practice maneuvering. At least break up army into 12 man squads, and have them do some maneuvering practice. Otherwise we will have another tactical disaster.
>>
>>21703603

At the moment and outright siege seems risky. I advocate for sending a small force to attack their fields while hiding our main group in the forest at the base of the mountain. When their warriors come out to fight in their fields we send our main force to slaughter them and occupy the land. Then we build a siege camp using their fields to feed ourselves over the siege time while we wait for them to starve in their halls.

Also for troops following orders, we don't have enough time. We're shoving off in only two months. My time on here will be sporadic, as I am gonna eat thanksgiving dinner soon.

>>21703647
We're building one to the sun goddess, not because we want her help, but because we want her not to help the other guys....

Actually we only need one, so we should be good. Unless you think we should make one to Hrunti and Chani so none of our major gods are left out.

I meant to come on time, but forgot...

Anyways, let's get started. Not sure how long I'll be able to stay awake today though.

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>21703719
G) Craft bows and arrows, See if Derrik has any pointers for improving it.
G) Craft hide and scale armor, have Derrik help out with the hide armor as he is our best hunter and all
B) Go out and fish, have Rani join them
>>
>>21703749

I am actually cool with this, though fishing seems fairly useless now and I am for leaving Rani alone.

I would change your last option:

G) Craft bows and arrows, See if Derrik has any pointers for improving it.
G) Craft hide and scale armor, have Derrik help out with the hide armor as he is our best hunter and all
A). Have Gerin and Trym ask for volunteers for patrols around the village. We are looking for 3
squads of 12 men. Tell them that this is in
preparation for war. The patrols are to wander
around the village this moon, staying within a
day / half-day of the village. They are to keep
an eye out for enemy scouts and not engage unless
they can win - report back otherwise. They are to
look for smoke from the village, and return

promptly should they see it. They are to live off
the land as much as possible, but should be given
enough supplies not to starve. They are not to
weaken themselves through training, but merely
try to rough it out. They are to return if a
party member is injured. They are to practice

staying in formation and moving quickly and
silently. They are to try to hunt birds and other
game (not deer herd) if the opportunity presents
itself. No risks.

I am sorry, my notepad spacing is fucked again.

YO BRITFAG, I AM ADDING A FREE ACTION:

Send the scary face shield guy to Derrik to ask him if Hrunti has been visiting any of our people in their dreams, just in case. (I know, i just won't leave this alone)

Ok, so it seems we are sending out 200 men and women warriors. Which means we are leaving 140 able bodied individuals to defend the city. I suggest we have them prepare for being attacked, just in case, because I wouldn't put it past Britfag to do that.

Fixing the walls and what not, laying traps, and other things would be prudent after our army leaves.
>>
Anon is watching you.
>>
>>21703782
I'm just doing the fishing so we can send our army with as much food as possible, but army organization is more prudent I believe. I'll go with your idea.
>>
>>21703800

Britfag is definitely going to do it (if we do anticipate it at least). This is also why I am recommending scouts NOW. We are doing counter-intelligence.

But yea, we definitely need to have good defense. Maybe even build a HUGE signal fire at the village / network of signal fires.
>>
>>21703782
Seconded
>>21703800
I think we asked him already and he said no... right?
>>
>>21703814

I think we are in agreement now that we need to strike hard and fast. Food supplies ARE low, but we kind of pissed off Chani by over-using her, imo. Also, it's winter, not that much fish.

Plus I want some counter-intel atm just to be safe, since we also agree that the village might get some raiding parties.
>>

>>21703782
I am for it. After killing their farmers they might be desperate and try to attack. Patrols are good idea.
>>
>>21703816
140 able bodies individuals will be enough to hold the village for a fairly long time if need be, that's another reason I want our food stores to be high.

The signal fire won't work, our warriors are heading rob ably a hundred or more miles away, too far for a fire to signal them, unless you mean just for the patrols while our army is away.

Also, once the Riverlands Concord is signed we'll be able to call upon other villages if we come under siege.
>>
>>21703856

Right now the patrols are purely while we prepare with two purposes:

1. Catch any enemy scouts.
2. Give the men at least SOME practice in unit cohesion / living off the land.
>>
>>21703834
I don't think so, we just asked the guy about his dream.
>>21703850
The only thing is though, they don't actually know where our village is. Unless they have sent scouts we have not seen, but they don't even know what direction to send scouts in, so I doubt it.

>>21703837
We didn't piss her off for overusing her, we bruised her ego for refusing her help in going to war. That they my speech and the river lands concord one is prudent.
>>
>>21703856

Alright, cancel the signal fires idea.

>>21703891

We don't know if our returning party could have been followed or not. But mainly, practice.
>>
>>21703889
Sounds good, lets go with your idea for this turn. I have to go eat, but next turn I advocate:

F) The yearly festival (go to the last thread for my speech about the rivelrands concord, bring the sigil we make and have the elders recite it. Also go to the thread before that to get my god speech and use that too)
G) Make a large sigil for the Riverlands Concord, each of those signing it will prick a finger and leave a bloody fingerprint upon the hide.
G) Convert a cart into a mobile shrine to our sun goddess and one to Hrunti and one to Chani, a month seems like enough time to do that. Have Derrik to the Hrunti one, Rina the Chani one, and Mickey the sun goddess one.
>>
>>21703902
Khione kicked up a blizzard, I don't think they were followed but it is a possibility.
>>
Britfag, you here?
>>
The village already has more than plenty of arrows and bows, but even so, at the families' request, the people set to work carving even more as replacements and spares. Derrik simply shrugs when asked however. "I may be old, but I am not one of the wise ones. I know little that would help you to craft better arrows or bows." He turns one of the arrows over in his hand and shrugs, testing the flint point with a fingertip, "You could maybe give the arrows bronze or copper tips, but I don't need to tell you how wasteful that would be."

The tribe lacks any copper tot make more of the scale coats! With the massive drive to arm everyone in the tribe, the reserves have just plain run dry. The tribe's hide 'armour' is little more than just lots of hides piled on to give a little resistance to bludgeons and flint and copper weapons. Bronze though, proves able to cut through the protection with relative ease. There's enough for everyone, but it's hot, heavy, smelly and uncomfortable to move in for long. Again, Derrik offers no assistance. He claims that while he may know the wilds well, the ways of the craftsman remain more-or-less a mystery to him.
>>
>>21704445
The Devout who painted the evil face upon his shield is then presented to Derrik and the priest frowns, stepping forward and almost seeming to peer at the man with his milky, blind eyes. "...His dream was no doing of Hrunti's," he says sagely, "Why everyone insists I can take on the form of a wolf, I have no idea." He gives a small, wry smile before shaking his head, "I cannot tell whence the dream came from. I do not sense anything of the wolf-spirit about this man. But I do feel something... A shadow perhaps... Pah. I am an old man and imagining things. Doubtless due to being disturbed by young folks such as yourselves. Begone! Leave me to my meditations. Ask Rina if you must have answers, or that girl you have with the frippery, serving Yeneth." He waves his visitors off, before returning to sit in the hollow of the roots before the sacred Wolf Oak.
>>
>>21704449
A handful of the best warriors from the tribe are sent out, three dozen in total, to patrol the local area, looking for any signs of the enemy. No-one honestly expects them to return with anything but made-up stories about how they vanquished a hundred foes with naught but a stick and a swagger. After six days however, twelve of them report back in a hurry, looking worried. They found traces of a camp not too far from the village, well-hidden and without any campfires that might have given them away. There are a few signs of stone arrowheads, flattened ground where people slept, even a bend and uselessly corroded copper knife-blade. The tribe is immediately thrown into concern and rumours. There's no evidence of who the camp belonged to, but everyone is certain who it was:

The Sun People
>>
>>21704510
Damn, we will have to prepare for a siege. Ok everyone, once our people leave I say we start reinforcing the wall and storing food for a long siege so we can simply wait them out. They should't have siege ladders and if we pile our gates up we should be fine, they won't risk staying too long where our arrows can get them.

>>21704449
This is very interesting, I knew there was something. We'll send him to Rina next, to see if Chani knows anything. I'm starting to think what ever is inside of him just must give us an edge in the coming war, I'm glad I chose to investigate it.

>>
>>21704510

We can ask the River Brothers to supply us with food since we have been preparing so hard for the war effort. We should be ok until next month at least.
>>
Any reports on how big the force might be? I am inclined to think it's just a scouting party. Is that what the evidence suggests?
>>
>>21704869
The evidence suggested it was just a scouting party, and if their body imprints were still there it suggest the camp was less than 1 week old. They will have not made it to their home tribe yet, and we might be able to catch them before they send a force back after us, or maybe meet them halfway (more likely). I suggest when we do go we follow the same path their scouts did because their returning force will probably be coming back the same way.
>>
>>21704924

I). Assuming this is a small band of scouts - arm 30 men to the teeth. Take the original 12 with them, assuming they are well-rested/healthy. Go to camp site, interpolate route enemy might take. Engage if out-number the enemy 1.5 to 1, at least. Otherwise, retreat and report on position. If no one is met en-route, try to track the scouting party, but not far from the village. Return before half this moon is out.

B). Send out fishermen. Patrol the banks in squads of 4. Hold two squads (24 men) in reserve, by Chani's shrine. Ready to defend an area at a moment's notice.

Optional (want tribe to vote) - along with the party, send some LIGHT hunters, who can support with arrow fire from the rear, but are there primarily to hunt, while defended.

G) Convert a cart into a mobile shrine to our sun goddess and one to Hrunti and one to Chani, a month seems like enough time to do that. Have Derrik to the Hrunti one, Rina the Chani one, and Mickey the sun goddess one.

My thoughts: We are dangerously low on food. We will have to postpone festival one more turn, especially since enemy might be right here.
>>
>>21704924

Also, Ref, I was genuinely going to support everything you said this turn, but scouts and dangerously low food makes me vote to postpone it.
>>
>>21704961

Note, engaging is only under the assumption that this is the lion tribe. I am not advocating attacking an unknown party.
>>
>>21704993
We need to leave next turn, the other tribes are already expecting it. We need the concord and festival to make the final preparations for leaving and telling them were we are going. We can chase them after the festival.

We can't suddenly scive off from our duties to the other tribes, they look to us for leadership. Besides, do you see our population? We'll have enough to defend if we come under siege.
>>
>>21704993
The lion tribe? They have been our allies for years, under no circumstances to I advocate attacking them. I only hope you mistyped and meant sun tribe.
>>
>>21705015

Did we promise to hold the festival / concord this particular moon? If so, I will go with everything you said.

If not, I maintain we need food and an attempt to catch the scouts.
>>
>>21705029

I mistyped.
>>
>>21705039
The festival is promised to be this moon, and it is the only time everyone will be together in order to sign the concord, and we are scheduled to leave next turn with everyone else. With our new population we can afford to send 350 warriors against the sun folk, certainly enough to take them on with the help of the lion lords and earth splitters.
>>
>>21705061

Alright, I will second your if you change shrines building to fishing before the festival, guarded by patrols.

I am too lazy to type out in detail, but you are basically leaving us open to a siege while the army is gone. I don't think sun tribe wants to "trade bases," but it would hurt as more than it would hurt them.
>>
>>21705105

shrine-building*
>>
>>21705105
We are leaving 450 people to defend our city, we'll have time to prepare for a siege and allies who are willing to come to our aide if need be. We'll be fine, at worst we'll simply have to wait for our army to return.

B). Send out fishermen with Rani accompanying them. Patrol the banks in squads of 4. Hold two squads (24 men) in reserve, by Chani's shrine. Ready to defend an area at a moment's notice.

F) The yearly festival (go to the last thread for my speech about the rivelrands concord, bring the sigil we make and have the elders recite it. Also go to the thread before that to get my god speech and use that too)

>>
>>21705143
I'll second this. And holy shit, we are in a bad situation.

Man, I'm not really contribootin much tonight. But what is there to contriboot when we have competent tribes people like Ref and V that say most of everything?
>>
>>21705193
Oh well, big population isn't exactly a bad thing. We'll just have to ask the River Brothers for food at the festival if we plan of preparing for a siege.
>>
I suggest we propose this at the festival. until the war is done each of the tribes will send a group of three runners to each of the other tribes every two weeks. If in a two week period a tribe does not receive runners from another, or their runners come back with knows that the tribe is under siege the tribe will send a detachment of it's remaining warriors to come and help break the siege. This way we'll only have to hold out inside our walls for two weeks instead of an entire season.
>>
Okay guys, so here is an idea....

What if the guy who painted the thing....

What if he experienced a Dreaming God?
>>
>>21705221
I think we'll need to look into proper agriculture in a bigger scale very soon. Also improving on animal husbandry.
Maybe even improved fishing, but keeping it at a sustainable limit. We can't live off of hunting and fishing forever.
>>
>>21705143

i am cool with that.

>>21705216

@Ska: I like when you contribute. I am actually cool with just reading. I just wanted to get spec ops started lol.

Btw, I made a mistake by calling 4-man teams "squads," squads are going to be 12 men for us.

Anyway, I am down with what has been said. I will be in and out, but probably often enough to contribute.
>>
>>21705276
Yeah, i say after the war (or even during it while our army is away) we do another field expansion, finish the harvest temple, and build a second set of bird enclosures for more Rock Wobblers.

(also, get the idea that milk might taste good)
>>
>>21705276

I agree with you 100%. Agriculture should be all of our turns after the war,

>>21705272

Travel to the astral realm! It was probably the battle god though. Good to see you Imperial.
>>
>>21705272
A god of dreams? I doubt it, that would not serve much of a pratical purpose. The god he experiences he said he was in "Awe of it's might". In all honesty I am hoping he saw some kind of god of Victory, Conquest, or even Death.
>>
>>21705298
Groza you think? maybe. How about we add sending him to Gerin as a free action this turn? and to Chani?

YO BRITFAG, WE ADD SENDING THE SCARY SHIELD GUY TO GERIN AND RINA TO ASK THEM IF THEIR GODS HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH HIS DREAM.
>>
>>21705306
>>21705298
A god of Dreams would also have the realm of Nightmares, which can be powerful tools. If you can manipulate an enemies dreams, he is already a dead man.

Yes, a God of Dreams would be powerful indeed.
>>
>>21705286
Yea, but especially in military concerns you two cover most of what needs to be said, and my forté lies more in civilian needs.

>>21705290
Forgot about the rock wobblers. Did we ever get around to catching deer? Can't remember if we scratched that. After the war we really need to dedicate some time for agriculture. And we need more variety in veggies as well.
>>
>>21705325

Nah, not Groza, I need to be more specific. It was probably a new combat God. I think Groza and Chani won't have shit to say.
>>
>>21705332
Yes, yes. How about we commercialize that? Having people pay for being able to do whatever they will in their dreams.

And if they're not willing to pay, maybe convince them with neverending nightmares? hehe...
>>
>>21705332
A lord of nightmares, maybe, but I am counting it as a long shot. Besides, it's not as if we can control any of our gods that much now, I doubt a dream god would simply give us power over our enemies dreams.

>>21705333
Yes we did in fact, we have four of them in the pen.
>>
But guys, think about how powerful a dream god would be!!

It'd be a god of all the locked knowledge of dreams, a slumbering master who knows our desires and fears. A god that could teach us many things, magic and what happens after death, maybe even the secret of Killing a God.
>>
>>21705349
It wouldn't hurt, Derrik did tell us to send him to Rina for answers and to our love goddess's priest (I forget her name).

A new combat god? Maybe a god of victory? The Commander to Groza's Warrior?

Groza is the chaotic portion of combat, built upon blood and bone and martial power. This new one is build upon the ordered parts; wit and cunning, sword at his side but mind sharp as any blade?
>>
>>21705388
We don't choose what kind of god it will be, that is for Britfag to decide, so no amount of hoping will help us.
>>
>>21705388

I agree that dreams have a lot to teach, and understanding them can actually ALLEVIATE superstition and panic, when properly analyzed. Still, I just kind of don't care about this god because we dont know shit. We painted his/her thing on our shields - goods enough for me. If it wants, it will manifest itself.
>>
He could have just drank some bad ale before he slept, you know.

>>21705428
Derrik sensed some kind of presence in him, so I doubt it.
>>
Argh, alright I'm kind of lost. HOLD EVERYTHING. No more discussion for now. If you have an option, post it, then everyone who doesn't, vote on it. Sorry it took so long. Had a personal issue to resolve.
>>
Also go to the thread before that to get my god speech and use that too)
G) Make a large sigil for the Riverlands Concord, each of those signing it will prick a finger and leave a bloody fingerprint upon the hide.

Free Action: Send our scary shield devout (Can I just name him Exotel for the time being?) around to each of our priests (Gerion, Rina, and our love goddess one) to see if any of their gods had anything to do with his dream, or if they have a ny insight into it.
>>
>>21705487
And for the record Britfag, we were only speculating on what Exotel could have possibly seen and the implications there of, and on possible siege preparations for later.
>>
>>21705522
Casting my vote for this plan.

Refrek may be psychotic at times, but you cannot deny that warfare is foreign to him. The Legion of Emperors have informed me that should he desire a position as a Centurian, one will be offered to him
>>
>>21705573
Warfare isn't foreign*

My apologies, good friend.
>>
>>21705522
Seconded.

So... anybody thought about how we go about this whole war affair? And maybe we should have checked on the other tribes beforehand. Not that they forgot to get ready. Also do we all meet up somewhere or directly at the village. Seems like a little bit of preplanning might have been missed.

>>21705573
Keep praising your corpse god, lap dog of mankind.
>>
>>21705603
Wrong Empire, my fair lady
>>
>>21705603

>a little bit

Understatement of our little village's history. Apparently we are just winging it. By the time I showed up, we were on that course already.

We can ask if other tribes need more time at the meeting.

Anyway, thirding what Ref said.
>>
>>21705603
I have already had a plan mocked up on what to do for several different contingencies. We shall be amassing on the river banks between the Lion tribe and the Long Fangs.

At the festival we shall be electing the four generals, one for each tribe. While Trym is our battle master and battle master for the entire force, I propose we elect Gerin to be our General on the council of four.

All the other tribes know we are leaving next month, we already told them. So I expect the festival to be a bigger event than usual.
>>
>>21705625
Of course you would think YOUR emperor is still alive.

>>21705487
Britfag, I'm sure you've already got a battle system up and running, and I'm sure you've considered it already beforehand, but a (very very) basic system might be like King of Dragon Pass'. Minus the whole "whatever you choose, you lose".
Talking about different pre-battle-set-up basic tactics where some of them are better against others and vice-versa. And mid-of-battle action events.
>>
>>21705603
The force is going to be organized and run by a council of four general, one from each of the tribes participating. In addition Trym will be battle master of the entire force and have the authority to make snap decisions if we do not have time to bring together the generals.

We personally will be sending 350 soldiers, I'm expecting between 150-200 from each of the other tribes. that'll be a force of 650. Their entire population is 400... honestly we're gonna win.... unless they have allies we do not know about.

Wouldn't it suck if they turn out to be the Long Fangs of the mountains, with allies up and down the range ready to come to them at a moment's notice.
>>
>>21705755
>Wouldn't it suck if they turn out to be the Long Fangs of the mountains, with allies up and down the range ready to come to them at a moment's notice.
Shhh! Don't give Brit any ideas.
Also the other tribes' populations might have grown some, too. And why 4 council members when the Rivers don't send any troops? (Or do they?)
>>
>>21705793
They are supplying us with aide via food, supplies, and what not (they are sending people with us as quartermasters, that's how such a system works). They deserve a spot, and it will strengthen our bond if we give them a spot, which has been shaky as of late.
>>
>>21705793
Don't worry, I doubt it. Being crazy zealots doesn't generally make you friends. Look, we are even going to war over it.
>>
>>21705840
I guess you're right. And I like that council idea, btw.
>>21705848
When we started the game, I also wouldn't have expected a huge white wolf to start talking and returning as a spirit...
>>
So do we really know what happened to Derrik?

It's obvious that he can't Am Become Werewolf, but Derrik the Wildsage has obviously undergone some sort of transformation. He could sense something inside of Exotel the Shield Bearer. He can see even though he appears to be blind. We need to figure out what this guy's shtick is sense he could be a valuable asset.
>>
>>21705887
He doesn't seem very forthcoming about it. We should not push Derrik for details, instead start appeasing Hrunti until they both become sated enough to tell us on their own.

Also I say after the war we send Gerin to go and commune with Groza, unless actually being in wartime conflict doesn't bring out a similar manifestation in him (which honestly it would make sense if it does, being a battle god and all).

Finally about The Council of Four, it will be a part of the Riverlands Concord.

In our history the day it is signed will be forever known as the Eve of Red Sun.
>>
>>21705874
Funny how that works, huh?
>>21705699
Ohhh no, I have a far better (or at least 'different') system set up. I recommend you give Ironhearts a gander.

>>21705522
The fishermen set out onto the river, with Rani alongside them to give aid. The discovery of the enemy camp has put everyone on edge and two dozen men wait in reserve to rush to aid, in the event of an attack. Ultimately, this proves unnecessary however.

The shield-bearing devout is taken by his comrades to first Chani's shrine, then Groza's and finally, Yeneth's. Gerin takes a brief look at the warrior, claps his back and offers him a drink, before declaring he cannot see a damned thing wrong with him. Naveen is less certain however, claiming that Exotel gives her an uneasy feeling, before ordering the warriors out of her shrine. Rina considers him longest, at her shrine at the falls. She examines him for a long time, before gasping and looking past him at the river. She clears her eyes and frowns as everyone looks back to see nothing out of the ordinary. "It was... A shadow in the water," she claims, "Reaching downriver, long and dark and sickly... Strange." She eventually declares there is nothing wrong... But gives Exotel an uneasy look as he leaves. The other warriors are also starting to avoid him in training and day-to-day life, angering the Devout himself. Sallina seems to be the only one who doesn't listen to the rumours.
>>
>>21706095
Hmmm... so there definitely has been something. I say we instruct him to start meditating in an attempt to bring back the spirit.
>>
>>21706095
Here is what we do with Exotel, you guys.

We have him take his shield, and pray to it.

We put him in a dark, secluded place, and have him pray to that shield for as long as it takes for whatever entity is within either himself or his dreams to manifest themselves. The tribe will provide him with food and water, but he will not return to us until he has made contact with the creature.

Also, thistle be a thing he does of his own free will, let's not have the Elder's force him or anything.

And yeah, I said "thistle" on porpoise.
>>
>>21706231
I'll second this, but this can wait. We need all of our devouts heading off to the war at the moment.
>>
>>21706095
Well, I figured by now you already had a system of your own. I just hope there will be mid-battle action.

>>21706231
Good idea for after the battle. For now we need his scary shield to frighten the enemies.
>>
>>21706095
The Earthsplitter, Lion and River Brothers tribes all arrive for the annual festival (a little late this year, as they are usually held in spring, rather than the first month of summer). Once the festivities have begun, Gerin motions for one of the Battleforged family to stand up and deliver a speech to the assembled guests.

"We are all men of the river, we drink from its banks and feast upon the flesh of its bounty. We should not be apart any longer. Let us bring together our four tribes under one banner, create permanent trade between our two people and consolidate our strength. In the past some of us have fought, some have starved, and some have argued, let this be no more. This day you all came here as separate tribes, brought together only by the strife of the Red Sun that looms beyond the horizon. We should see this as a time to not come together for just war, but for eternity. From this sunrise to the last sunset let us be together as a single people, as brothers in arms, as men of the Riverlands. Let this be the Riverlands Concord, the great binding of our people. Let us go across to the mountains and topple the Sunfolk, they have risen the Red Sun for war; let us set their sun, forever."

Upon the hide of a particularly large stag, the wise ones had drawn a great pictogram, showing the symbols of all the great tribes of the Riverlands. This they bring forward and with great ceremony, Trym (acting as champion of the Wolfsbane Tribe) cuts his thumb and leaves a bloody smear on the base of the hide. From the other tribes, a representative comes forward in turn and adds their blood in a stripe of their own. They all seem to be in agreement; the Sun People will die by the hands of the Riverlands Concord.

>>21706450
Happy day oh happy day! That went off without a hitch!

Now, one more thing to say.

"Next month we will be amassing our forces along the banks of the river between the Lion Lords and the Long Fang cities. Each tribe is to send warriors and food with them, and various other support. The River Brothers have graciously offered to supply us with the food for our journey so we do not starve once we arrive.

Besides that there is one more thing. A council of four general, one from each tribe, will have control over the combined force. Trym shall be battle master of the entire force, and make snap decisions when there is not time for the generals to be called. We nominate Gerin Battleforged, priest of Groza, as our general. What do the other tribes say to this proposal?"
>>
>>21706574
Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)

> RULES UPDATE
> Armies and parties are not self-sufficient! If an army or party on the march runs out of food, they will attempt to subsist off the land, but will suffer HEAVY attrition every turn they are without food supplies!
>>
>>21706592
B) Send Rina with as many men as possible to go and fish, send Derrik with as many men as possible to go hunt
D) Gather as much food as possible from the forest.
(basically I am saying increase our risk for a higher output on the food)
I) Send 350 men and women to the designated meeting spot along the shore of the river. They shall wait there for the rest of the forces including the River Brother's food aid. They will load carts with the food fathered this turn and bring it with them. Mickey, Derrik, Trym, Gerin, Sallina, and Exotle will be the heroes that go with them. Rina shall stay with the tribe.
>>
>>21706646
Make sure we have Exotel worshiping that shield all along the way, just in case a God pops out.

Otherwise, going with this plan.
>>
>>21706712
Well, the journey will take several turns. I expect Britfag will split the actions in two. one for the tribe and one for the army.
>>
>>21706646

I have to go, but I will leave a few changes and comments, and you can adjust your suggestions, if you feel like it.

1. I would send at least a couple of squads with Derrik (probably the squads already versed in patrolling) to protect the hunters. I am not saying the hunters are incompetent, but I don't want them getting ambushed. The hunters and the squad can return a few days before step I to rest.

2. I recommend that said patrolmen run patrols within 15-30 minutes of the main force, watch for patrols and ambushes and some such.

3. I agree that we have to touch the deer herd, unfortunately.

4. Once we do step I, again, volunteer our deer patrolmen to meet the food supplies from the River Brothers and escort them to the final meeting place.

I know I am abusing them, but I want to put these motherfuckers to work.
>>
>>21706741

5. We can post guards around the river again, because why not. Just a squad or two again, just for advanced warning / deterrence. This way the fishermen fish with a calm mind and can focus on it. I realize we wont need this, but nonetheless.
>>
>>21706741
We;ll be able to organize how our force moves after they amass.
>>
>>21706768

But we can send the patrolling squads with Derrik now, to provide security. We can use the same defense squads we used on the river NOW. I realize we won't be getting ambushed, but in war, you make sure.

As far as them patrolling around the main force later, yea, that's for a later turn.
>>
>>21706802
I don't think it's needed. Their scouts have not even gotten back to their village yet, let alone their army making it back to us. It's a waste of man power and the heroes would be better to inspire moral around our military camp.
>>
>>21706821

We never sent any heroes with the scouts. Gerin just asked for volunteers. Same with river defense. I think it's a good idea, and hardly a huge waste of resources. If anything, it's command structure / unit cohesion practice, as mentioned earlier. Especially if the 3 dozen doing the patrols will be doing patrols for the main army.

Anyway, your guys' call. Last thing I can say in this thread.

Till Sat/Tue everyone.
>>
>>21706860
I for one vote no.
>>
> load carts with the food gathered this turn and bring it with them
Your call then.
>>21706646
In a last-minute scramble to be ready, Rina takes to the river, along with the fishermen, while Derrik vanishes into the forest to lead the hunters. Both parties bring back a mighty haul, granted by the favour of their gods. Several of the hunters report that Derrik seemed years younger, leading the hunt, his ability to track and corner the prey being almost frighteningly uncanny. One of them swears blind he saw an old, wizened, grey wolf right beside him, only to look again and see it was Derrik. The old priest again scoffs at the rumours of him taking the shape of a wolf. "What nonsense. Running around on all fours at my age..."

Parties of men and women head out into the forest to gather as many wild foods as humanly possible. Though they do not recover a great bounty, they do return with armfuls of wild vegetables and fruits. The River Tribe arrives roughly midway through the month, bringing grain for the expedition and lend the gatherers the use of one of their inventions; a pot, but made out of woven sticks! The gatherers soon catch on and start using baskets to move the food, as it's a hell of a lot quicker and easier!
>>
>>21706860
>>21706878
I'll vote yes on added patrols. Better be safe than sorry. Also they might still have some sabotage guys around, who knows? And it doesn't take that much manpower away.
>>
>>21706646
I guess I'll second this.

I just really wish you guys had laid down some ground rules for what we'll be doing after we win, if we do. The way it sounds, the other tribes fully expect to eradicate the entire village.
>>
>>21707210
Oh shizzle. We aren't leaving any for the village then? That's no bueno. Unless the can subsist for a turn and hunt on their own after the army departs.
>>
>>21707210
Wait wait no, not all the food. D:
>>
>>21707210
Damn, we're going into starvation mode. We'll gave to gather again next turn, our food will be basically gone.
>>
>>21707210
Also, does anyone take the fact he is denying the fact he can turn into a wolf as many times as possible as proof he can turn into one. I mean come on, he is obviously displaying some kind of supernatural power.
>>
>>21707306
Whelp, thats just life. Should've been more specific. The tribe isnt entirely out of food. We'll just have to hope they can fish while the army is marching to the sun people village.
>>
>>21707210
Next thread... You will select the forces you will be sending on the march! I hope you all know how to write an Army List for Warhammer, because firstly, if you DON'T, what are you even doing on this board, you filthy casual and SECONDLY, there will be a few crucial options for your forces that you'll need to chose between! A good army is the difference between victory and defeat.

The next thread will be at 1600EST on SATURDAY. Play will actually start at 1630EST, but try to show up for the earlier time, just so I know people are here. I hope you all enjoyed today's thread and any Americans among you didn't eat TOO mu- Oh what am I saying, of course you did! Have a good one folks. I'll see you next time!
>>
>>21707333
Perhaps so, but he won't teach us that. He already said he would only tell the secrets he learned to Hrunti's followers.
>>
>>21707343
Aha, I played warhammer for years. We'll be able to do this... Britfag, if you could liken the combined force to any one army what would it be? (For the love of god don't say Lizard men)
>>
>>21707398
At the moment? None of them. You're a copper-age tribe. You really don't have much in the way of options or organisation. If anything, you'd be closest to the beastmen. But even that's tenuous. You'll see next thread.

>>21707306
You do have SOME food left... But my GOD is your morale going to sink like a stone until you have some decent reserves. People do NOT like going hungry!

> NEXT TIME ON CIVILIZATION QUEST:
> THE TRIBE FINALLY GOES TO WAR!

Before that though, are there ANY questions? I want to get those out of the way asap. Next thread'll be busy, so let's answer them now.
>>
>>21707459
Are we going to have to be oddly specific from now on out?

Because if so, I'm really good at that shit.
>>
>>21707459
So I take it that I'll be able to give my units orders before the battle, but mid battle orders are going to be extremely limited? So I'll have to come up with plans and contingencies beforehand?

Also, could you give us like an example of one kind of unit we can make?
>>
>>21707459
And beastmen... I'm good with this.
>>
>>21707398
Good to have somebody who knows that. Probably everyone but me does... I'm a filthy causal, just here for civ quest and funny stories.

>>21707459
I don't think I have any game-related questions. Not on the mind right now at least.
However:
1. Please tell me, you actually area high-ranking British politician.
2. Are you jelly of american thanksgiving or just 'family' festivals in general?
I don't really expect an answer, but oh well.
>>
>>21707605
Ska, are you drunk?
>>
>>21707636
I honestly hope she is.
>>
>>21707605
Oh and as always, it is unfortunately unlikely that I will be able to participate on saturday... I will try, however.

>>21707636
What makes you ask that? I'm not, in fact. I may seem awkward when trying to chat, but I'm certainly not drunk.
>>
>>21707654
I... WHY? And I hope you're kidding about the "she". I have a penis, you know?
>>
>>21707681
You must be a trap.

God Emperor of Fetishism Cleo XVI will approve of this, no need to be ashamed!

At least you will always have a place in the Legion of Emperors as a bedslave. Are you Greek, by any chance?
>>
>>21707681
Huh, I thought you were a women.
>>
>>21707717
>>21707758
What the actual fuck, guys? I'm speechless now. How'd you even get that idea? Am I that annoying?
And no, I'm also not a trap.
>>
>>21707773
No, it's because Ska sounds feminine.
>>
>>21707773
I don't know, you just assume the aura of a female at times.

And you're still Greek right? Do you know how much the Emperors would pay for a Greek Bedslave?
>>
>>21707487
Define 'oddly specific'? I'm just going by what was said. The winning vote included ALL the gathered food this turn going with the warband (better name at the moment than 'army') so ALL the food goes. It's that simple.

>>21707559
Yeah. You can dictate strategy before the battle, but afterwards, you'll only have control over ONE unit; your 'command' unit. Later, this might be a general and bodyguards, or staff, or what-have-you, but for now, it's just the mob of tribesmen with the warchiefs in.

As for an example, well... At the moment, you've only got two types of units. But your Tribesmen Bands can have multiple options, like a lot of hunters in the band (giving it a ranged attack), Groza's Devouts in the band (making it considerably more deadly), etc. etc.

>>21707605
1: I could tell you my position in the British government, if I held such a position, that is, but then I'd compromise my position as such, if I were one.

2: Me? Jelly? Whatever gives you THAT idea? Just because you Americans get a chance to just feed yourselves stupid once a year for, while we Brits get nothing of the sort; a holiday for the sake of celebrating life and eating as much as possible of so many delicious foods? Why could I possibly be jelly of that? Just because I'm freaking starving and have never had turkey before but it looks soooo delicious and I want to find out if it tastes like duck at all and you get to spend it with family letting all bygones be bygones and just pig out, as opposed to Christmas here where it always feels so damn forced what with the gifts and everything or maybe that's just my family? You think that might make me jelly?

Because if so: YES I FUCKING JELLY! Lucky bastards... I want turkey too...
>>
>>21707806
At least you don't have to deal with the Damn Puritans anymo-

Oh... right......
>>
>>21707783
>>21707804
What the actual fuck guys? Come on; I could tell Ska was a dude from the word go.

Also; Imperialbro, seriously, you're giving me so many evil ideas. I'll be sure everyone in the tribe knows to blame you when the midden hits the windmill.
>>
>>21707847
If you make a single one of my citizens a bedslave I'm going to fillet you Britfag.
>>
>>21707847
I would GM a game like this if I could, but I don't want to encroach on your space. That, and I love your setting so much that I might end up borrowing ideas from it a bit more than I should.
>>
>>21707783
>>21707804
... Well... I don't know what to say now. And Ska is just the music genre I use as the short version of my actual online name.

>>21707806
1. hehe...
2. I see your point. Christmas feels mostly the same for my family, so I think thats usual.
Also I'm german, so I guess you weren't directing your anger at me. We don't have a celebration like that as well, where it's just about the food. May you be granted the delight of such a frivolous festivity at least once, dear Brit.

And yea, that american thanksgiving food sure looks delicious, though I doubt it would delight my german tastebuds.
>>
>>21707876
Would I do that?

Would I?

Really?

I would totally not do that.

>>21707877
I appreciate that, bro. Just you wait and see what I've got lined up; it's going to be good, I promise.

Oh and good call. Steal from my setting and I'll not just gut you, I'll fry you in batter and serve you with chips! Just a friendly reminder!

> Just kidding; I love you guys
>>
>>21707897
Hey, at least you get Oktoberfest

Off to bed now, as soon as I've archived this. Goodnight all, I'll see you at the next thread!
