You throw everything into a chi shield ahead of you as you charge in. The dragon's breath scours the landscape around you as you charge in. Almost there.

The dragon takes another swipe at you with its claws. You drop the shield and duck the attack. It stumbles for a moment - overextended the attack when it thought there was going to be something solid.

You form a chi shield about three feet off the ground and hop onto it, then another and another. While the dragon is still recovering its balance you're already above its shoulders.

You land at the base of the dragon's neck with an impact that would shatter concrete. The vertebra snap with a sound like a tree cracking in half.

The dragon roars one last time, flame gouting out with a bloodcurdling scream, then collapses, limp.

You walk to the front of the dragon. Looking it in the eyes is the least you can do.

"That was...something," it pants, struggling to breath. "I've never seen its like, and I've been alive eight hundred years. Or maybe only three. It's hard to tell." It tries to catch its breath and fails. "The old man," the dragon continues. "The one you seek? Seek him in the eye of the chi storm. Downtown Boise."

"Thank you," you say. "You lived and fought well. You can face Death with pride."

"I wonder..." it says. "I wonder if there's anything waiting for a game piece like..."

The dragon falls silent, the great sides ceasing their movement. The dragon begins to fade then, glowing faintly and then softer and softer as the chi fades.

It forgot to tell you where Joe is, like an asshole, but even that's probably just more of its job. Besides, you think, he's probably in the castle you ignored at the crossroads.

You really hope you make it to that castle before he starves to death or something. To be on the safe side you run back to your horse.
