"He didn't leave much that wasn't to you." He says after a few moments thought. "A few last minute charitable donations, but that's not unheard of. He did have a storage unit in town somewhere though. He asked me not to open it, just make sure dues were payed and no-one asked too many questions."

Saber nods, and after a minute we begin to spar again. We start to approach the hour mark, and I feel slightly frustrated. I know, logically that I can't match a servant in direct combat, especially not Saber.

She's got a lifetime of experience behind her, and that's before the boost to speed and strength she gets from becoming a servant. Yet I can't help but feel....

A sharp crack as her sword hits mine. I'm off balance, next she'll come in low and knock my legs out from under me.

I can't deflect the blow in time. But if I was just a bit faster-

I feel myself shift, and for a split second the world moves slower. I deflect the blow.

Saber adjusts quickly and smacks the inside of my arm as I over-correct trying not to tip after my wild swing to deflect. Two blows later, I'm disarmed and on my back, saber standing over me with a smile. "You're improvement is rather amazing, for someone who's only been training for a couple of days."

"I used to train with my Dad. Maybe some of that's just coming back to me?"

"... Perhaps." Saber responds. "But you have a bit too much of HIS style in there for that to be the entire reason."

I don't even need to ask who she's referring to as I stand up. "Two hours of training for now." I say. "Maybe we'll do more after lunch."

Saber nods, and we head back to the main house. Tosaka's sitting in the living room when I return.

"Since for instance, making a healing potion would involve taking herbs that stimulate cell growth and numb pain, and using magic to make the effects more potent."

"So it's still the same herbs, just enhanced. The same way that stick was still wood."

Rin nods, satisfied. "Exactly. It tends to be an under appreciated field, simply because a mage with the right spells could do it faster and easier than a potion. It also, frankly, tends to be boring compared to most forms of magic. Who wants to make a better stick when you can rain fire from the sky?"

"What do we do in the meantime then?" I ask.

"Well, we could go into town to scout, or we could keep training here." She says. "If we fight another Master before we're ready, the results could be disastrous, but it might be even worse if we have no idea what they're capable of when we meet."

I think it's safe to say Tohsaka already knows we suck. Also, having two fully healed servants is better than having one and a half. IIRC, Saber's wound from Lancer is still in effect, and continues to be until the second Berserker fight in the VN. So, if we can learn how to A) Heal her with mana and B) Get her into spirit form for daylight protection, we'll be better off and won't burn a second command spell just to summon her to our side in case of an emergency.

Given the way Shirou's magic works, I'd say it's more likely that he used enhancement magic on himself, in the same way Caster buffed her master.

I mean, given that it's structural, and all his magic is based on some form of that from basic tracing all the way up to full on projection, it's entirely possible.

I know the light novel said that he had the crest, in fact the Emiya crest was so well developed it took up most of his back.

Time magic was most of his dad's specialty, since he was attempting to refine the magic to sorcery level to reach the Root.

Kiritsugu could do what he did because he managed to artificially create a lesser reality marble, and combined it in himself to bend time on the fly. I think Lancer's master said as much when he figured it out.
