Adventuring on the second level, the party fought some ghouls and won a magic shield. So armed they defeated a group of Kobolds, forcing one to reveal several treasures and agree to have the tribe allow the party to pass unmolested, since they'll kill their hated enemies the goblins. Returning home to rest they were contacted by the mysterious Samael, who offered to prevent Bargle from escaping the castle in exchange for the bounty, and warned the party of his ally the medusa in exchange for a share in her gold. The party was joined by the thief Jenai Ky Ovat, who went with them into the rooms near Samael's cave. They fought rats and goblins but were driven back, and solved Granitas' riddle for a pile of gold. They slew the Rust Monster and defeated skeletons, but were stymied by the door they guarded. Heading west they found corpses and signs of fighting, and in a room off to the side four shadowy figures, but temporal disruption prevented them from engaging in combat.

If you want to play, Samael could contact you with a little job. Apparently there's a gang of bandits attacking merchants he's protecting. He wants you to get rid of them in exchange for an equal share of the stolen money you recover for him.

Okay. You're travelling through the woods where you've been told they are. You search around for a while, and find a path with what seem like chicken bones, dropped by a snacking traveller. Up another way, you think you hear bees.
>>
>>21400355
Oh, when Echo was asking about healing potions, I should have checked harder. Apparently a quart of giant bee's honey gives back 1d4hp. That's not a spoiler, I mean you've already heard them.

You wait in the forest for some time, watching the bandits. A good number of them leave for a while, leaving 3 guards. >>21403052
Well, asking around town you hear the rest of the party went off this morning to harvest giant bee honey from the forest. They all bought a big jar and headed in.

Echo's massive axe easily allows you to gather firewood, and
>>
>>21403052

>>
>>21403048
So, my vote is to smoke them out, kill the guards, with sleep if need be, then as they try to come out, into the smokey mess of bee drowsiness, we kill them with range, using the entrance as a choke point
>>
>>21403073
If you kill all the bees in the hive, you can't get more honey later.

>>21403092
we wont' kill the queen, larva or current foragers, everything else is fair game though. Is the smoke strong enough to inhibit the guards yet?
>>
>>21403068
I gather myself up for a bee-hunt, and prepare to back up my allies.. I follow their trail as best as I can. Presuming I finally arrive amid the flame-to-bees discussion, I suggest the following:

"Why not huck a flask of oil with a lit rag in it? Or make fast a bundle of wood, light it with some oil, and then roll it at the entrance all sudden-like?"
>>
While you're discussing the plan, you get a smoky fire going in a nearby clearing
>>
>>21403103
possibly if we can be dwarven enough we could create our own dwarven tunnels to easier access the honey
>>
>>21403145

>>21403145

>>

It takes a while, but the guards become drowsy with the smoky air. They allow you to come closer without chasing you off, and you use this to start a nearer fire. Eventually they ignore you altogether.

>>
>>21403212
I consider it, until they totally ignore us.

I'll gather a bit of the punky, smouldery wood and see how close I can get to the entrance before starting to attract attention.

It's 500gp to tunnel out 1000 cubic feet of stone. So a small Dorfy tunnel of 5' by 5' is 500gp for 80 yards. Maybe 100gp to construct a tunnel through loose earth
>>
How does one join one of these /tg/ campaigns? newfag here

I think I'm the only one running a game on here right now, and to join you just roll up a character. 3d6 six times (thats dice+18d6 in the email field) for your ability scores, pick a class and name (Fighter, Magic User, Cleric, Thief, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling), and take either standard equipment or buy some.

>>
>>21403338
Presumably honey's a major ingredient in healing potions, so a pint would be between 50gp and 250gp, depending on how much honey is used in a potion. Say around 100gp a pint, or 200gp a quart.

Back of the envelope, you'd need about 12000gp to pay for a tunnel there, and it would take a month. That's not including guards or the construction at the site (like digging out a fire pit and putting trapdoors into the hive so you can smoke them out easily), and assumes a five foot by five foot tunnel.
>>
>>21403593
Well, we're not THAT rich... yet...
>>
>>21403545
Yes, Giant Bee Honey is magical.

Though that's from the town itself. Just digging out under the hive with an access tunnel would be a lot cheaper even with all the guards needed, I'd have to work out an estimate though
>>
>>21403593
>>21403616
Yet!

I poke around the hive a bit, keeping a respectful distance, and not losing sight of the entrance or my other companions.
>>
>>21403616
Yeah, just realised you probably meant a short tunnel, not one from your houses in the town. Like I said a 40 foot tunnel 5' x 5' through soft earth is about 100gp, trapdoors are 20-40gp, and regular doors are 10-20 gp. You'd have up all the tunnels, maybe 100gp for a big firepit, and a few hundred for the trapdoors and it's actually quite reasonable.
>>
>>21403626
Alright, we fill up with as much as we can and head out, objections?
>>
>>21403673
None. When everyone has eaten their fill and then each filled their collection jar with honey, I plug the honeycomb I tapped with the pitons so as little is wasted as possible.

"Let's git one of 'ose bee's stingers on da way oot."
>>
>>21403670
I would very much like to invest in this. can i get a possible total, also extend the tunnel about 20more feet and setup a small building to process the goods.
>>
>>21403662
The hive is maybe 100 feet across. You explore around and see through a tunnel a glimpse of the massive queen bee, about the size of a cow.

From these figures I just made up, maybe about 2000gp to dig out the area under the hive itself. Then you need a tunnel to a place safely away, and 1,000gp for a building to store the honey for transport to town
>>
>>21403730
we'll make our money back and more!
"I really fink we should get them honeys more oftens."
>>
>>21403730
I'd say maybe 500gp for the tunnel to the building.
So a budget of 4000gp, with the extra being for guards, surveyors, and extra expenses seems good.
>>
And 50xp to everyone, for getting the honey with a clever plan.

FTFY

Did you want to start work on the honey tunnel?

It will require a consensus from everyone.
>>
>>21405473
I just got back from dinner with family, a toddler, and fish sammiches.

If RDJ or JKO are around, would you be willing to trade me your gems for equal value in gold?

>>21405653
I'm all for building the tunnel, but, uh, you can kinda see where Fig's treasure priorities are.
>>
>>21405722
"Lemme reason with ye fig, I know I canna have an easy time with muy brain bein full of metal werkin and such, but you must understand this is the best idha ive had, we make tunnel to teh beez and take bits of their healin hunny to sell at town, makin 100-200gp per pot after we take out expenses. Ya could buy while gems with that money!" I try in my own way to explain what my idea is to Fig'Tard
>>
Wait, no Fig' had 644gp
>>
>>21405761
"Aye, Oi agree with ye, but the others got gems now! So Oi trade 'em my gold, an' get their gems. 'en 'ey give ye my gold an' we make the 'oney pot. 'at way, Oi get gems, an' we all get 'oney!"
>>
>>21405822
So, if I can buy the other 240gp of garnets off the other party members, I'll still have about 400gp to pledge to the honey pot. Brilliant!
>>
>>21405844
and that shall be the name of the production center disguised as a bar front that we have on top of our tunnel. the Honey Pot.
>>
>>21405844

>>21405824
So you would have 4000gp, which I'd ruled would be enough for you to hire guards during the week long construction.

Here's how much people are to hire over the long term. Labourers cost 1-2gp a month, more for skilled people. Alchemists can convert honey to healing potions (which do better and are easier to drink).
>>
>>21405887
The tunnel would be in the woods though. It would take about another 2000-4000 to extend the tunnel to the town itself
>>
>>21405892
I shake the appropriate coinage out of my boots and into a sock, which I hand to JKO in exchange for the garnets, which I put down my breeches to join the rest of my family jewels.
>>
>>21405926
Thinking for the future Friend DM, something my character is ill equiped to do.

Hurmmmmm.....

>>21405950
"Fig duanna you have ta do that without warnin meh?
>>
>>21406007

Let's keep it simple for now, a consistent supply of 1d4 HP pots is amazing at level 1. But I agree, eventually building a Dorf'sBees honey, nectar and beeswax business sounds like an excellent idea.

>>
>>21406267

I could probably haggle with him, considering that's part of my backstory.

The kobolds are allied with us for now, and hopefully that will continue, we can always export our goods, that hive looks like it's been there a while, im not to worried about it dying out.

>>21406294
>speakeasy. A tavern, mayhap, a safe place for travelers to stay out in the wilderness while they go.
Thats what I was leaning towards, but Fig's right it's a bit of a big project to start up with our limited munny.
