You are Anon, a street fighter and America's World Warrior for the upcoming tournament. Two days after the battle with Boss Honda you're mostly just enjoying getting some rest in your own bed for once.

That's what makes Pete and Jen appearing in your bedroom at six in the morning so confusing. And maybe worthy of murder.

>previous threads here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Street%20Fighter

"Morning, sleepyhead," Pete says as he turns the lights on, startling you out of an otherwise pleasant dream. He and Jen take a seat at the foot of your bed.

"What the fuck?" you say.

"You have three weeks before you face the best the world has to offer," Jen says. "What's your plan for training?"

"Who let you in?" you ask.

"I bullied Pete into letting me in. What's your plan for training, Anon?"

>What is the plan?

"I don't really have much in the way of projectiles," you say. "Maybe I could train with Karate Joe?"

"Went west somewhere, nobody knows where to find him now," Jen says. "Also, gross."

"I'm becoming kind of a Metro City poster boy," you say. "Maybe I could punch a lot of Mad Gear thugs?"

"Not that likely," Pete says. "Ellie took out their leader and most of their gang bosses, it's going to be awhile before they reassemble."

Gears start to turn in your head. Mad gears.

This is literally the best option that we've ever gotten in this entire quest and I endorse it wholeheartedly. That said, what other options do we have? We've got three weeks, which is enough time for a road trip, but no crazy other-country training or anything. We need to get drastic.

"It's...probably best you don't know all the details of this, Jen," you say. "Could you wait in the living room for just a minute? Pete, we need to talk." Jen looks doubtful, then leaves the room.

"Okay, I'm going to need a disguise," you say.

"No," Pete says.

"Something that covers my face. Makes me look like a Mr X kinda guy."

"Stop what you're saying, nothing good can come from it."

"I'm going to restart Mad Gear and then beat it up."

"That's...wait." He looks thoughtful. "That might work."

"So we just get a mask and a huge cloak, recruit a few tough guys who recruit more tough guys and then we wail on 'em. What's more, it'll demoralize them so bad they might be put down for good this time."

We don't commit any crimes, we can get out whenever, and we break their spirit by beating them in jail.

Hey, if we're the American World Warrior (not counting anyone the Armed Forces or whoever else gets a bug up their ass who decides to compete), don't we have a bit more clout and money now? We can start globehopping to learn the fundamentals of other styles. Who knows? Maybe we can get an audience with Eagle himself.

What kind of moral do we have?`No! We shall not create a new Mad Gear gang so that we can beat them. If we do that, it is high risk that it will ruin our good reputation!

Metro is kinda tapped dry right now. We can always check on Tatsuya and Ellie's Kyokugen dojo. Plus, we heard about this "Real Bout" thing they got over there, with a bunch of fighters. Maybe we can check that out.

Again, ask Jen if there's info on the other World Warriors yet, and see if we can't travel abroad yet.
>>
>>21373381
I'm still convinced we don't need beams to be successful. Plenty of fighters are successful without projectiles. That aside, sumo and escrima don't have any noticeable synergy, and I doubt Honda has much to teach us.

Idaho? I dunno... that doesn't sound all that dangerous. or exciting. I say we head to Southtown, fight Ellie and Belle, and see if they have any good training ideas. Also, it'll give us a chance to fight their newly acquired murdernun and get some practice against Counter fighters.

Boss Honda, Pete and the Mad Gear remnants are currently in Metro City. The karate hobos he traveled with have been migrating west for unknown reasons, but apparently this is an exodus that's common for them. Earl Gray is somewhere out there. Tryhard Coolguy may be here, his current status is officially Unknown.

Southtown has the King of Fighters team and Tatsuya. Real Bout is a competition that exists in both cities, both about equally fierce.

>Head to Southtown

We should look into rounding up our game some more, no matter where we go. We're good with the sticks, everyone knows we're mostly an eskrima dude, we should keep adding stuff to catch people by surprise. My favorite idea right now is adding to our strikes by training our leg strikes. Muay Thai would be a good idea what with the leg kicks, push kicks and knee strikes, but I wouldn't mind Taekwondo either.

King's Court is a thing in Southtown, yes. We don't NEED to visit, but it'd be a nice bonus.

"You're the one who woke me up," you say. "Get out, I'll be there in a minute.

A minute later you're in the living room in an old t-shirt and sweatpants. If they wanted you to be formal they could have knocked. Pete has taken a seat beside Jen on the couch, you sit in an old chair that's followed you from apartment to apartment.

"So what's the plan?" Jen asks, setting aside her phone.

"Go to Southtown, train with the Kyokugen school some more. Look to round out my game a bit by sparring against their King of Fighters team," you say.

She raises an eyebrow. "This is the plan you had to send me out of the room for?"

On the surface there's nothing wrong with the man, just another one of those guys who looks like he should be on the cover of a romance novel. Flowing blonde hair, chiseled jaw, all that. He trained kickboxing as a youth and was some kind of prodigy, barreling in to win the World Warrior Tournament out of nowhere. Nothing wrong with the story so far.

The problem came with what he did once he won. Or rather what he wouldn't do. Romance novel covers, shampoo commercials, a terrible new age album, a line of children's jeans at K-Mart, if you offered the guy money he'd put his big stupid mug all over it. "ENDORSED BY THE WORLD WARRIOR!" was almost as common as "AS SEEN ON TV!" now. The tournament gets a cut of his advertising money so they're not willing to shut it down. After half a decade of this nonsense the reputation of the entire fighting world was starting to go downhill.

Looks like he's going to be there this year.

You're actually kind of glad. You can't wait to kick him in his stupid handsome face.

By narrow margin you decide to become Boss Honda.

You are Boss Honda, former karate hobo, former World Warrior contendor, now just sort of...Boss Honda.

You drove away your mentor by pursuing a path of hate and destructive power. Now the Satsui no Hadou (or whatever its equivalent was) has left you, leaving you with normal sumo and karate hobo powers. Which is still pretty good, all things considered.

With the bustle of the tournament over and a day of recovering in the hospital out of the way, you find yourself feeding bread crumbs to pigeons on a park bench. It's starting to grow cold, and Metro City never had great parks to begin with. It's time to figure out what you're going to do next.

You've been on the road for awhile. Time to see if your stuff is still there.

You start with the truck, last parked at the Metro City trauma unit where that mysterious Skull Girl punched you in the head and threw you in an elevator. You make a mental note to try for a rematch if you ever find out who she was.

In any case, no luck finding it. Apparently the hospital lot tows unattended vehicles left in short-term parking unless the owner is registered as a patient. Walking out under your own power and getting drunk one block over meant you were fair game.

At least you live on the bus line, you comfort yourself. You scrounge up enough change to get you to the lousy apartment block that used to be your home.

...whoever that is watching TV in your new apartment sure looks like they're enjoying the space, you find yourself thinking.

Just when you think to yourself this day can't get any worse you hear Jolene clearing her throat behind you.
>>
>>21374568

"Hey stranger," she says. You turn from watching your old building across the street. You're not really sure what to say.

"Haven't seen you around in awhile," she says. "We were starting to wonder if you'd died or something."

"I kinda...went west," you say.

"Well, we heard," she said. She seems just as nervous. "I was just on my way to work. Wanna come along to the bar?"

"...sure," you say. Maybe it'll be nice to see the old gang.

You follow along, trying to think of any small talk. You could explain the beauty of the road to her, what it was like hopping train to train, meditating in the desert, feeling that rush of chi rising in you. You wonder if you can tell anyone about all that.

"Well, here we are," she says, breaking that uncomfortable silence. "Hell, right over there's where you got the ol' Black Mjolner to the face." The laughs a bit when she says it.

"...yeah. That."

Maybe this wasn't as good an idea as you'd hoped.

You are Ellie, Kyokugen fighter.

It's mid-afternoon, but Belle is at work (you're not completely certain what it is that she does) and Moira's with her church doing whatever it is she does. It's just you and dad in the gym together for the first time in a few months.

"Watch your technique on the right straight," he says as he blocks another punch. "Your shoulder's pushing too far forward."

"Right," you say. You set up for the same combo, trying to mind the technique more this time.

"Solid," he says. "You're definitely faster than before you left."

"I need to be faster," you say, teeth grit. "That nun threw me twice yesterday."

"Well, you did choose her because she's a counterfighter," he says. "If you're that worried about it we could work on your kicks more? You almost exclusively punch, makes it easy fora counterfighter to guess what you're going to do."

"That..." You think about it. "That actually works, yeah. Can we do that?"

"Sure, just let me - whoops," he says, hopping back to avoid a sidekick from you. His phone starts vibrating. "Let me get this real fast. Hello?"

You keep striking while he answers. He's answering with his left hand, so you make sure it's all strikes he can parry with his right. That's just being polite. You think you hear Anon's voice.

"Yeah? Sure, no problem. Can't stay here this time, Ellie's back in her room. Yeah."

"Wait, he was staying in my room?" you ask.

"Uh-huh, that's her. Nope, hadn't told her. Just come by when you get here, I think we're about to fight for real." He hangs up and tries to take a ready stance, your foot already three-quarters of the way to his face.

You are Boss Honda once again.

You sit in a corner booth, surrounded by some of your old drinking buddies, Jolene coming by with the occasional pitcher on the house and a wink.

You're starting to realize you actually kind of hate these people.

"So what'd you get up to out west, Boss?" Willie asks, slapping you on the shoulder. "Chasin' those California girls, soakin' up the sun, all that?"

"Rode the rails. Ate what I could find, trained every moment I could," you say. You find yourself smiling. "Fought Mad Gear for a bit, other gangs when they tried hassling me and the old man. The Railyard Bull, too, we think he's a robot. A guy in a metal mask at least. Went wherever we wanted, lived how we liked."

"Well damn if that ain't sissy talk," Willie says. "You and this old man had somethin' goin' or what?" He and the others laugh at this, a hoarse choking laugh that's starting to grate on your nerves.

The hell with it. You stand up and start to leave. You catch Jolene's eye in the corner. She seems as if she'll start to say something, then sees the drunks behind you and clams up.

The hell with them. The hell with all of this.

Two hours later you're on the back of a westbound coal train, staring into the distance. Somewhere out there is a wonderland of master-level fighters and raging storms, where an old man with tears in his eyes parted ways with you when he couldn't stop you from destroying yourself.

"NO TICKET NO RIDE," a familiar voice booms behind you. You grin despite yourself. Just wouldn't be the same without these guys.

Dude who suggested Moira's counter mechanic last thread and made the Eagle roll, etc. here. I'd been mulling things around in my head a little since earlier today, and since the thread is still here, I figured I'd post my thoughts on the other characters' dice mechanics for your perusal (not counting Anon, since that's a little of everything).

Ellie's Rushdown Mechanic
Start with a single die or small pool (say 1d10). To start her rushdown/combos, roll at least a hit; the threshhold of what counts as a hit (x to 10) varies depending on her, her opponent & how well she can hit them -- for example, against Moira right now, the initial threshold to tag her once would be nothing but a 10.
If the hit connects, increase the pool and/or hit threshhold, and on the next post, go again. If there's another hit, repeat. Adjust the number of hits needed to succeed where necessary, e.g. longer combos, forcing blockstrings, etc.
Perhaps add a finisher mechanic where at any time, given the option to end the combo, say with a special or super, roll one last test where you "blow up the pool," totaling hits or the overall rolled number, perhaps making the dice explode (10 = hit & reroll). It's a strict success test and doesn't have to beat a given threshhold.
From there, the pool resets, albeit not as small as at the start of the fight (2d10 instead of 1d10), since Ellie now controls the fight's pace and continues her pressure.

Sherm--Missy Sue's Grappling Mechanic
Start with a given dicepool (3d6 for example). To go for a grab, set a target number (10). Roll the pool and total the numbers. If it meets or beats the target, it's a successful throw/submission/pin/whatever. If not, then the opponent teched the throw or she whiffs or it's a stalemate. Optionally, improve the pool (add 1d6) for the next time she goes for a grab.
Naturally, circumstances can influence a given target number -- the opponent, positioning, working them over, any given (dis)advantage and whatnot. The main thing is to offer multiple different grapple options, each with their own TN, on top of whatever other options you give. For example, against a big guy throwing a slow haymaker at Missy's head, you'd post:
Pool: 4d6
>You're way faster than that. Tag him first!
>Dodge away. Let him tire his fat ass out.
>Jump at him and flying armbar that punch! (TN: 9)
>Slip behind him for a German suplex! (TN: 20)
Chain throws and locks/submissions work in much the same way. For chain throws, add multiple TNs to a single choice or string them along in multiple posts, offering to transition from grab to grab. For submissions, make the first check to hit the pin, then offer to hold the pin -- the same test at a higher TN the longer it goes on -- among other options like transitioning between grabs or breaking away.
The same system applies to counter throws, i.e. if someone tries to grab Missy.

>>21377340
Both mechanics, while reflecting Ellie/Missy Sue's own unique styles, also make them a sort of momentum-type character (at least if you use the rule of improving Missy's pool with each successful grapple). Once they get going, it gets more difficult to stop them. Though, if they get caught by a good counter (coughMoirahack), it can potentially stop them cold and force them to reset the pace.
Anyway, those are my musings. Tell me what you think.
>>
>>21377328
>>21377340
These seem interesting, but we already have a bunch of PCs.

Let's keep it to Ellie's team, Anon, Boss Honda, and some third guy. Pete maybe.

Otherwise shit will just get very complex.
>>
>>21378719

He was talking about Ellie and Missy. Missy is a part of Ellie's team. Just as a substitute/member for a striker team.

Plus with how this quest goes we might have another PC to quest with, maybe, Not that it is a bad thing. And yeah, I like the systems for the two. Seems to fit perfectly.

Missy and Moira never actually fought, but because the two had the best performances of the day (barring the Ikari "yoga instructor" who lost to Moira), Ellie and Belle decided to add both of them to the team. Moira McKenzie the aikido nun is the official third member, while Missy Sue is a reserve.

I like the mechanics for Ellie! I'm not sure if we'll get much from Missy's viewpoint, as some have mentioned we're slowly adding viewpoint characters at a ridiculous rate. Anon is staying as prime MC, Ellie as deuteragonist, Boss Honda may keep up a tradition of dropping in for a thread or two before disappearing on his own adventures, like a spinoff character reappearing on his show of origin now and again.

Actually, who do you guys like seeing/being the most at this point? You all cool with Anon and Ellie trading off MC duties?

It's Anon and the KoF team as a whole (with Ellie as the primary). Boss Honda makes for good tangents.
>>
>>21379967
Technically, it's two separate entities if you count the whole KoF team (Ellie/Belle/Moira/Missy) as one entity, three for Boss Honda. Ellie is the primary character in the KoF plot, yes. On the whole, I'd assume we're in control of the team overall.

>>21380182

From my viewpoint Ellie is the MC of her side of the quest with a few sidekicks, sort of like Pete and Jen are to Anon. When they fight in KOF matches we'll control all three/four, but anything that isn't a fight will default back to Ellie.

We may get one-offs in someone else's head when plot relevant/I wanna drop some dramabomb secret like the fact that Belle is pro-skub, but we probably won't get Belle Quest. In any case, I'm glad you guys like Ellie, playing as her started as kind of a whim because Anon was losing a fight against her, then she just kinda grew into her own proper character. Same for Boss Honda, originally he was never going to come back.

Considering the others are meant, by KoF design, to be Ellie's equals, they would have a bit more weight around her end of the quest, compared to Pete and Karate Joe with Anon. Hence the entire confusion of how to treat the overall team. I'm not saying make Belle Quest or Moira Quest or Missy Quest, but they have their own bit of importance and their own characters and story arcs.
>>
>>21379277
Why did we do that, anyway? It's an unnecessary character, main cast should be kept small as possible. I say send her over to the Yoga place for recurring character status.
>>
>>21380875

>>21381543
Barring all the Shermie pictures posted throughout the past thread or two, she's only really come up in two or three posts. But considering the rolls between Moira, Yoga, and Missy were 100, 99 and 98 respectively, it was hard to just let go.
>>
>>21380875

She's kinda sidelined until one of the KOF fighters gets injured or we need a Striker. I'd be surprised if she becomes a recurring character at the level of Belle or Tatsuya.
