Trying to defend yourself would only sink her mood, poor girl is really way to serious and for a moment you think of trying to strike a joke about the softness of her scales and discreet tail hovering behind her, it’s not constantly moving like those of the foxes and tend to fall flat on the ground as she move or stand, clearly lacking the extravagance of the fluffiness your accustomed to.

You really get sidetracked easily don’t you?

You focus back on her, a golden gaze with warmth and softness hidden away behind an ideal of chivalry, this girl sacrificed her sword arm for her home, for a moment you wonder how many things your soul link with her didn’t tell you.

The Cursed Swamp, the Deadland, is one of the very few place left on this world where old strive unknown to time, yet the influence of the Demon Lord strike even there and sometime the two clashes, but the results has always favored the previous blight, it’s a constantly expanding place that has, thankfully, been kept in check by Central and the further civilizations, however this cursed land has effectively cut all hope of roads and trades, yet it’s impossible for thieves and criminals to find shelter, nay, monsters roam free and undead awaken in the night, to die there is to be trapped under the curse of the madmen Queldan, High King of the Swamp for the name of his realm has forever been lost in time, some mage even theorize that time is distorted inside, specter of past soldiers and champions flickering in and out of existence and that a week spent there I merely a day outside its barriers, all made to further rots and diseases as much as possible.

You didn’t had the chance to get some proper information on what happened, with the various reactions of the girls however its easy enough to deduce that you lost control and simply not knowing may be for the best, whatever it is you did has already been forgotten.

Athena silence prompts you to focus back on her, you notice that her eyes are closed and she seem slightly out of it, lost in thoughts maybe?

Upon her graceful wave, you stop once you reach a closer distance, for a moment there’s nothing but silence where the Inari captivate your gaze with her moving tails but then, out of nowhere, she reach for your wrist and you are left completely dumbfounded when she put your hand atop her head, gently squishing the pair of dark vulpine ears.

She gently let out a satisfied sound as your hand awaken and start squeezing the soft, soft fur between your fingers.

Somehow, Ame keep smiling through your words and you find yourself relaxed in her presence, maybe being near her keep you from being stressed or, could it be the charisma of a queen?

You pause, forcing yourself to finally let go of her head and you ball your hand in a fist to chase the lingering tingling sensation in your palm, Ame golden eyes glowers, both of you know what you’ll say next.

‘’I do wish to come."

The Queen smile spread, her teeth show themselves and you wonder about her expression, some kind of mixture of excitement and resolution that almost look cruel, it’s quite unlike anything you’ve seen from her.

Ame said she planned to take the golem so I assume she meant Emeth. It would be good if the whole crew goes: explaining everything up to this point to Mylen, encouraging her and the other girls to bond so she can settle in with the group. Maybe Siggy should see if Hadraniel can work in a flying lesson or two with our succubus bodyguard.

Mylen needs to realize how much damage her spear could do when she's in flight: Death from Above.

‘’Now that its settled, I aim to part very soon, in the next… 20 minutes would be best, the swamp at night is deadly but time is cruel to us, would you accompany me for the preparations, or stay and say your farewell to my mother?’’

The queen start walking after her words, many a pale fluffy tails swishing to and fro, elegance and confidence almost dripping, her smile seem almost cruel when she nod to Athena whom immediately set out in the bowels of the castle.

You look back to the archery range, Tsukiyomi is looking at you with a perfectly controlled, austere expression that is all but impossible to decrypt and, slowly, activities starts in this courtyard, soon Sylphis is out of sight and Garret gently grab the golem, traveling in the same path of the fluffy queen, leaving Mylen and Hadraniel slightly confused, with Yuria having abandoned her post, talking with the Anubis, both of them walking in the center garden.

How do you proceed?

It might be best to stay with those left behind, the mood has completely plummeted, from peaceful conversation and relaxed demeanor to the grim and strength born out of duty and following ideals, you give a nod to Mylen and Hadraniel and the two accompany you while you walk to Tsukiyomi who has Rhy and the centipede at her sides, although the insect girl is busy scribbling something on various piece of papers, long drawn out letters, the exact same alphabet that Tsukiyomi use when writing with…

Wait, she’s using the pen, the gold, ornate and runed one that Tsukiyomi always keep on her person.

Behind the Queen-mother, 7 bushy, large and blond fluffy tails encircle her form like the broken petals of a flower.

She stop and sigh, then cough up a black, corrupted tar, Hadraniel resist the reflexes of going to her side.

With the change of subject, the two girls attention are on the busy centipede but your eyes never leaves those of your lover, she look… fatigued once more, but by now you know that tiredness is the same as being worried for Tsukiyomi.

Perhaps the atmosphere mounted to your head, but such words were, of course, head amidst the dead silent courtyard and the Queen-Mother smile, one that seem both resigned and resolute and for a moment, a trickle of warmth come from the armored angel.

And stray into what I might ask? I doubt she'd go looking for her old home, but as someone connected to the area... Also, I get it's basically a "Death World" like Catachan, but does it make ya see hallucinations and such too? And is there anything good to eat there? Prisoner fruits and whatnot are corrupting (only slightly, eating one or two won't do much, only if you eat a lot of em' do ya end up turning into a succubus/get corrupted), but they are quite nutritious and such if we lose our rations.

I hope this works out. After reading the archives, I can see what a dangerous position Zipangu is in: Ame and Tsu are essentially fighting a war on two fronts.

The Church wants them destroyed and I doubt the Demon Lord looks fondly on the idea of an island of monsters that seek peaceful co-existence with humans.

Then she sighs and stands, walking to you, placing her hand on your cheek, prompting embarrassment from Hadraniel.

She turns to the Hero who, despite her reddened cheek, meets her gaze head on.

Then you hear the buzzing of activity, Tsukiyomi turn to sit and you spot Yuria and Mebuchednazi walking to the queen that is now garbed in a heavy set of leather clothes, fit for both armor and travels in treacherous lands, Emeth suddenly worm her way out of all these peoples and walk to you, standing out like a sore thumb when she crosses the empty little field of flowers, although she’s holding what look like a backpack and, when reaching you, unceremoniously empty it to reveal the same kind of clothing the whole group is now garbed with, minus the baggage’s, enough for everyone.

‘’There a changing room in there’’

Tsukiyomi point to a door that you realize is there for the first time while Hadraniel start coughing, looking very uncomfortable and you can only give a halfhearted glare at Ame-no-Uzume who seems to be clearly enjoying herself.

That was a very disgraceful way of shoving you aside, Tsu seem to find some fun in the situation while Emeth, now looking like a proper adventurer, simply walk to you and take your hand.

Hadraniel is really gorgeous outside her armor even so she’s stubborn enough to keep her helmet, the pointy top stab through her halo as she look down, avoiding your gaze and hiding behind Mylen who look as stoic and bored as she ever was, the two pair of wings almost touches and, from the angel, come a constantly refreshing wind as you try not to stare too hard at her athletic body before venturing into the room yourself.
Inside, the only light come from a small window, spacious and comfortable tis the perfect place to change.

Emeth always taking your hand, you give him a shrug and down the down in one volley, almost choking when the liquid literally cling to your throat, you don’t even drink it properly, it just… vanish right as it goes down your esophagus, your display ear you a brief clap on your shoulder and a ‘’good boy’’ and then he start handing it to the others girls.

Then Sylphis jump up, Ame-no-Uzume waved for everyone to gather and you give Tsukiyomi, sitting in the archery range, one last look: she’s gently stroking Bletsia head, the girl is using her tight as a pillow and, absentmindedly, you run your fingers along the scroll case housing a very, very important magical item.

‘’I hope this hero is worth it…’’

She says without looking at you, the link is more than honest about her reservations but you opt for silence this time because, honestly, you are of the same opinion thus, you gently string Emeth along, her square and blood red pupils scanning everything around her while she accompany you in silence.

The Anubis is speaking in a strong voice; very fit for a leader, at her prompt the two slices they’re hand, enough to cause a fair amount of blood to drip and both offer they’re blood in the balance, the staff draining it like a thirsty man, behind you, magic and a powerful voice with the sound of burning, Tsukiyomi burn an ofuda and the wounds heal.

‘’Lady Queen, think of the location’’

Holding her free paw forward, Mebuchednazi begin chanting in a way very similar to Tsukiyomi, a soft ringing and the soft voice of a female singing, all around you people grab they’re weapons, Mylen seem the most composed for even this display is enough to keep her bored.

Then a powerful clacking in the horizon, like a thunderous boom in the storm, a portal tear apart the very fabric of the air just like that, the Anubis promptly fall on her knees coughing up black tars, quickly tended to by various aids.

‘’To brave the coming storm, we must accomplish the impossible, to me!’’

Headfirst, she step into the slimy looking portal, piercing the membrane, the next to follow is you, holding Emeth.

There’s a squishing sound when your heavy boots land upon the cursed land, water and humid patch of dirt, sometime mud all around the portal with a complete and total desolate area as far as you can see, all around you lies some kind of bone jutting out of the ground, era olds remnants of beasts and horrors too big for word and in the middle stand a queen with a set of fluffiness swirling around her like 9 serpents, looking up to the clouded sky and setting sun, boots submerged in water as, one after another, each member of the group exit the golden portal.

Keeping both hands on sword and sheath, you mull the idea of actually taking it out and shed light upon your group but think better of it right at the last second, tension is thick amidst everyone with the group having formed into something of a rough diamond formation, you, Ame and Emeth taking the middle spot with Garret at the vanguard, guarded by Mylen and Hadraniel who look very stern and serious, your bodyguard expression has changed, even she recognize the utter damnation of this place, the rear line consist of Athena and Sylphis, no words are exchanged for a good long ten minutes while the group walk at a rather slow pace, given how damp and muddy the place is its normal to proceed as such and you silently thank your lack of cape, these boots and clothes are quite formidable, ankle deep in water and nothing to soak your socks.

The sky is masked with big, menacing clouds with the setting sun struggling to illuminate whatever patch of torn lands this forgotten place has to offer; thankfully you don’t spot corpses, absolutely nothing in fact, a complete empty horizon, a desert of mud and disgusting water.

"Garret, do you think we can make any distance before nightfall or should we make camp nearby?"

Your words break right into the tension, the constant slushing of water making silence impossible somehow everyone around you seem to calm down by the very simple fact you’ve opened your mouth to speak.

Never before have you felt such a complete and utter feeling of isolation, the forest where you guide is leading your group stand out like an unnatural piece of land in the horizon, yet right at the edge of your vision sometime you spot some kind of desolate monument only for it to disappear when you look more attentively, all around you is an tension nothing short of unnatural, and your group huddle together as invisible eyes observe murderous attention, all directions are being carefully guarded by trained and experienced individual, thus, everyone is more than able to feel that the very land seem to reject the living, air thick and heavy, soil full of obstruction, mud and water…

A queen stand tall and proud, her smile mischievous and strong, in silence your group proceed, in silence you help one another before someone trip in a facefull of mud.

Above all, Emeth is the one being extremely cautious, more than one time the golem would stop moving, her hand in fist would grip and tremble as her square pupil look with an expression of complete and total ferocity to the sky, sometime she’d come near Hadraniel who, confused, could only look at her then in her direction, other, her stare would force the group to stop when she gave Ame a unflinching gaze, to which the Queen simply said, numerous time.

Ame says, but there’s still an incredible tension in the group, the figure has probably already picked up on your little sounds and with the night falling, obscurity cloak over every single part of the world, and inside this house stand this defiant, forlorn knight resting in this quiet, quiet fire…

Aye, that is lucky. I do wonder though, why would a person ever venture into this place willingly. There are less dangerous places to prove thy worth (the Demon Realm for example). Does the church have a "Crusade of Absolution" policy for some heretics like in 40k? The borderline heretic who dabbled a bit in chaos/boned a monster or something is sent into the eye of terror/deadlands to battle "the enemies of man" for years, even centuries. If he comes back untainted, he is absolved of his sins. Nobody ever comes back out though (which is kind of the whole point of the exercise, you die, but hey we get something out of your heretical ass)...

Garret and this knight are looking at one another in complete silence, still sitting this lone armored form shift its stance more comfortably, looking over your whole group while the dark outside this fire completely mask the world outside and, just like that, this person resume its silent staring into the fire, leaving many with cold feet, but soon enough, you and Ame actually step to it and form there, everyone else follow, forming a circle around the fire, you at the right of this champion with Emeth beside you, Ame occupying the second flank, here, the air isn’t a burden, here, the humidity is absent, here, is reprieve.

A comfortable silence, night fell into the Deadland, to proceed outside this fire is complete and utter madness, for a moment your gaze fall on Hadraniel and she flee your stare, somehow her cheek redden and, finally, Garret break the silence by capturing this new person attention, asking

‘’Would you like to trade?’’

That, somehow, caught this person attention and now the two of them are sitting face to face, the alchemist pulling out many different items out of his pouch.

It seems that this place just became a camp, how do you proceed?

Slowly, you get up from your post, prompting Emeth to follow you and start creeping around the area, walls and furniture lay in piece both in and out the light of the fire, caved in roof act as obstacle to the northeast corner and the stairs leading to the second story are blocked by both a hole and rubbles, Emeth hold your hand but, when you finally theorize that nothing will creep under your feet, the golem resist your light pull, her face is looking straight into the dark beyond and it is then, you hear a soft music coming from the camp.

The armored champion is holding a music box, its gentle tune breaking into the heavy atmosphere and everyone look, intrigued, as the melody continue uninterrupted.

The only one staring right into the darkness is the girl in the image of your mother.

‘’You can keep it, I’ve got the perfect thing to shield it too’’

Garret says, his expression nostalgic, yet gentle while the Champion simply look with vast interest into the box producing such a precious melody.

They’re taunting you.

Then the music cease, you turn, forcing the girl to follow Hadraniel steps to you and gently take your hand, pulling you to the fire while Ame eyes are closed, the brief sound of armor from the champion is head as he, or she, rewind the box.

‘’You don’t have to give me something this precious…’’

But the person simply shakes its head and the alchemist pick up an idol made with straws, you feel magic in it, old beyond belief.

For the surviving girls, the only thing I can say is you'll see.

As for the corruptions, everything is dominated by the old with the new one popping up at, literally, random place most of the time, very, very few emplacement actually contain a proper ''new corrupted'' spot, the way the two corruption mix is in the constant creation of abominations that act as wild card, killing off undead and living alike and usually catching the attention of champions.

How a mosnter girl would survive in there is by being incredibly opportunistic, nocturnal and probably getting the hell out unless she can cooperate with other people to survive, this is, quite frankly, worse than the demon realm.

A new found game called Fallen Enchanteress, a 4x fantasy game with leveling an hero recruited, very easy to mod barely a week after its out adn there's already a total conversion and the game tickle my summoning love.

Wel lthe way I go with this is that I give each character the mean to survive a crit fail, it jsut so happen Garret had something very, very precious with him that lead to acquiring this new item and, maybe, a temporary follower.

I can't stress this enough when I say that the Champions are the most precious allies any living can hope to have.

Empire building is a bloody, horrible affair. War, Assassinations, Betrayal, bloody suppression of Rebellions due to the high taxes you need to maintain any sizable one or one of your many laws that are always a problem with them or the governors/nobles/politicians being total dicks (and lets face it, most of them are)...

I don't think it'd fit Siggy to want that. He's fighting this war to protect his friends and lovers. While greedy, I don't sense much of the "Will to Power" within him and he dislikes killing. He was happy as a noble, didn't have a lot of ambition beyond that (that I/he knows of, his memory isn't 100 percent yet). Empire building would just put them in more danger as it would mean putting them on more battlefields. We fight because we must to save our companions (and bed them, but that can wait), not because we want too.
