The front page is half shitposts, half debates about which of two obscure styles with only four or five practitioners would win in a fight. Only decent thread is about Haggar's presidential run (he's declared himself an independent candidate, half of the democrat and republican ticket dropped out and the other half hired personal trainers. You have a feeling this isn't really going to be an election about the issues.) You open that one in a new tab. Also something about the Western Title changing hands to some mystery fighter, that might be worth reading? You open a tab for that one too.

You finally find a thread about the east coast World Warrior title changing hands. Half of the posts seem to be some variant on "Again? Why can't someone just hang onto this title until the fight?" or worse.

You open the fridge to find...confusion. It seems that someone's been cooking with your stuff and restocked it weirdly. Instant noodles in the fridge, along with some cans of soup and three or four boxes of baking soda. There are eggs buried somewhere in the back, along with a package of...turkey bacon? Urgh. Some more digging eventually uncovers a lone stick of butter as well.

You manage to whip up a pretty solid breakfast. Bacon and eggs, some toast on the side. Nothing fancy. With a plate in each hand you walk out to the living room. Tatsuya's still snoring.

Hell with it. He's reasonably civilized. You think. You nudge him with your knee to try waking him up.

Tatsuya bolts upright, throwing a punch your way on blind instinct.

No way to do a cross counter without spilling the food. Option B is a headbutt. It's always headbutts for some reason. You slip the punch - Tatsuya's groggy - and headbutt him. In the faaaaace.

This seems to rattle him. He blinks for a few seconds then seems to finally wake up.

The two of you eat while watching a rerun of another Fei Long movie.

It connects with a loud crack, flooring Danny. You step back, holding a ready stance.

Danny looks more thoughtful than hurt. He touches his hand to his head where you struck him and rises slowly to his feet.

"...this the first time you been hit, kid?" Tatsuya asks from the sidelines.

"I've sparred hundreds of times!" he shouts back.

"There's a big difference between sparring and fighting, kid," Tatsuya says. Danny puts his fists back up.

You exchange another few glancing blows with one another, looking for an opening. Saikyoken is kind of disrespected as a fighting style, but it doesn't have any obvious problems on defense. Finally, slightly annoyed, you overcommit to another strike. It hits again - another solid one - but Danny's moving into it, launching one of those silly-looking jumping knees at your face. You have a feeling that it won't feel so silly if it manages to hit.

You've put up with Danny Seagal about as much as you can take. If he's got some sort of mutant thick skull there are other options.

You slip another of his punches and jab him in the solar plexus. For good measure you jab him another two or three times. While he's out of breath you throw more strikes - his knees, that sensitive spot just below the armpit, a strike or two at his elbows. You end with another of those huge golf-swings into his jaw, the same way you ended the battle with Earl Gray.

Somehow he's still standing. Stunned, but standing. You calmly walk behind him and put him in a rear naked triangle choke. You're pretty sure you're not supposed to try doing one of these while you're standing, You really hope the sleeper hold is a real thing and not just something from cheesy movies.

You stop for a moment to catch your breath. Fighting this hard for this long takes it out of you.

Apparently the swarm of chi everywhere attracted Karate Joe, the city's foremost expert on ridiculous chi spam. He sidles in through the front door, as gigantic and smelly as ever.

You're starting to get a pretty good sense of when Danny's going to calm down for a moment. The skyward scream starts to lose volume and pitch ever so slowly and the swirling storm of chi begins to ebb. You start running.

By the time he completely loses breath and has to inhale you're airborn. Last time you did this was to some sort of imaginary pillow demon that you don't like thinking about. You had to get rid of all the pillows in your room last night and use a rolled-up blanket in their place. You've got a lot of hate that you need to vent.

You bring the butt end of both sticks down on top of his skull, hard. People outside can hear the cracking sound of it.

For a second you're afraid it's not over. Danny stares at you for a second and breathes deep...then slumps forward, face-first, butt in the air. He went out as ridiculously as he came in.

"That's a thick skull," Tatsuya says.

"That'sa lotta chi," Karate Joe says. The two stare at each other before both yelling "Dibs!"

While they bicker you roll Danny over with your foot. Miraculously he's starting to wake up already. What kind of military-grade armor did they make this guy's head out of?

"That was...that was actually fun," he says. "Never really fought before."

A young woman in business attire stands in the doorway, briefcase in hand.

"I'm Anon," you say. "What's up?"

"I'm Jen, with the World Warrior Association. We're here to inform you that your first official bout is tomorrow." She hands over a thick folder full of paper. "Starting today I'm assigned to be your handler until such a time as you lose the title. Welcome to the tournament."

Main reason I'd shy away from C. Viper is because of her chronic lack of shirt. C'mon lady, your tan is going to be really, really weird. Kim's something of a living legend, I figure. Ally of justice, hero of Korea, family man, beloved companion of most he meets (including Terry Bogard himself) as well as the UNDISPUTED World Tae Kwon Do Champion. He has a mighty stable of fighters and students, including his twin sons Jae Hoon and Dong Hwan, May Lee Jinju, Chae Lim, Jhun Hoon (a self-professed rival who doesn't directly train under him), Chang Koehan and Choi Bounge (though I imagine they've been relaxed a fair bit), Seo Yon Song, not to mention his far-flung, post-apocalyptic descendant Kim Sue Il.

The guy's a paladin, a provebial Kamen Rider without the mask. He is Mr. Tae Kwon Do. No one fucks with Kim.

Part of me wants them to make Capcom vs. SNK 3, just so Kim can stomp a mudhole in Juri. She's, like, the perfect storm of everything that Kim stands against: she is blatantly evil, uses Tae Kwon Do for evil, and she's an embarrassment to Korea. Yes, Kim Kaphwan is great and team KOREA STRONK are some of the nicer non-main characters in KoF. This sadly does not change the fact that Taekwondo itself is pretty shitty, especially WTF foot-tag hopping. Thankfully we don't really have to listen to reality for this, else we'd probably be following Gai Tendo's path of MMA and wrecking everyone via practicality and effectiveness.

Kim Sue Il is from the relatively rare game Kizuna Encounter from SNK. One of the two main characters with Rosa, he's a Korean detective and assumed to be Kim Kaphwan's far-flung descendant. He shares his ascendant's sense of justice and uses a lot of Kim's moves.

Another fun fact: Kim was never originally supposed to be in the King of Fighters. The original design had the Outlaw Team, which would've been Chang, Choi, and one other character. However, approaching the deadline, SNK realized they didn't have a third character.

Yeah nah regular TKD is bad, Olympic Taekwondo is maximum terrible. It's just not practical at all, and even if it has techniques taken from karate and judo, the biggest focus is always on silly, predictable kicks, often adding in jumps and spins that will get you murdered in a real fight. Sure, they pack a wallop, but they're so predictable and leave you so open it's not even funny. There's also no leg kicks, no hitting in the back during sparring, no hitting the face.

I practiced taekwondo 'cause it wa the only local thing that fit my schedule back then. It's shit. Even the sabumnim said that if we wound up in a real fight we'd better not try kicking and just stay well on our feet throwing punches to the face. All things that were not emphasized upon during practice. I know that practitioner>art and all that, but if you want good, solid kicks you need to look into Muay Thai. Taekwondo's nice for some light workout and decent stretching, but that's about it.

Yep, which is why Taekwondo is bad. They don't teach you that at all. It's a martial art whose core methods and teachings go against common sense and practicality.

TKD/anti-TKD is one of the prime skub/anti-skubs of the martial arts world. Same goes for MMA, internal martial arts and literally anything else about anything that you can argue about.

This is set in a crazy fighting game world where Karate Joe the fighting hobo exists, I'm pretty sure we can let superpowered TKD slide.

That's May Lee Jinju, one of Kim's star pupils. She's modeled to be a "Korean Athena." She uses a personalized form of Tae Kwon Do, but her primary gimmick is switching between her Normal Mode and her Hero Mode (which is visible in the picture). In Hero Mode, her moves are a bit more telegraphed, but she moves and fights just like a Kamen Rider (hence the belt). She shares Kim's passion for righteousness.

The Tekken, Virtua Fighter and DOA tournaments are all (probably) existent, depending on some decisions coming up you may or may not interact with them. I'm less familiar with 3D fighters than 2D, though.

As far as Darkstalkers, the general consensus in one of the earlier threads was that the power level disparity is too huge. Throw that one on the 'maybe, if the stars align wrong' pile.

Hell, May Lee's HSDM for most of the NESTS Saga was a Rider Kick (complete with pose and the enemy exploding).
Even more, her HSDM in 2002 was hitting the opponent into the air, creating a clone of herself on the opposite side, land a DOUBLE RIDER KICK, spend five seconds doing the full V1 HENSHIN! pose, and THEN the enemy explodes in midair.

Shit was ridiculous.
