Before you, the sky was streaked with the oranges and reds and purples of the New Arcturan sunset, slowly sinking into the horizon. You protected yourself from the cold, hard stone rooftop of the keep by sitting on swathes of blanket. Kaliel was leaning up against you, munching on Lembas bread from the nearby basket. Tea set to brew sat by your side, and every now and then, you sipped at it.

Kaliel curled into you, silent, as the two of you had been for the past hour or so.
"I... had a nightmare this morning." She said, hesitantly.
>>
>>21207871
"Oh? Was it because of my nightmare you entered?"
>>
>>21207871
"I know. I could feel some of it through the ring. Do you want to tell me about it?"
>>
>>21207871
"I know, I felt it. What was it about?"
>>
"I know." You say. "I could feel some of it through the ring."
You give her a reassuring hug. "Do you want to tell me about it?"

"We- you and I, I mean- were just... fooling around, and then you just lay there, so content, like you do, and then... you started... withering." She said, frowning. "Withering away. You went gray, and then thin... and then you were just bone, and eventually there was... there was nothing left. You were just dust. Gone."
>>
>>21207925
"Is that what you've been researching so intently? I don't intend to die and leave you alone. If it comes to it, I'll use sorcery and just will my lifespan longer."
>>
>>21207925
"I won't abandon you Kal, I promise"
>>
>>21207925
There's very little to say here. Personally, just hug her a bit more and "We got a long before that will happen."

Anything else gives an idea of false hope. We really don't know if she can figure out her spell or we can do anything for Ishy lifespan at all.
>>
>>21207925
"I... I know it must be difficult realising how much you might outlive me. But we'll figure something out. Or I'll come back as a wraith. Or... just don't use up all the time we do have working yourself to death trying to solve it."
>>
"Is that what you've been researching so intently? I don't intend to die and leave you alone. If it comes to it, I'll just use sorcery and just will my lifespan longer." You say. "I won't abandon you, Kal, I promise."
"No, you can't." She said. "You can't, just the same way you couldn't bring someone back to life on your own. It would take... so much power that you'd have to use.... blood magic, or something." She said. "And if you use blood magic, then you might as well not cast anything at all."
She closed her eyes.
"We have a long time before that will happen."
"We only have forty years." She said. "That's... shorter than my entire life so far, and I'm just... just a kid. That's... not a long time. A short sliver of time, in the scheme of things."
"I... I know it must be difficult realising how much you might outlive me." You say. "But we'll figure something out. Or I'll come back as a wraith. Or... just don't use up all the time we do have working yourself to death trying to solve it."
"I'm... I'm the only one who can." She murmured. "Nobody else can understand the forces at play. Even... Even Mala doesn't know. There's nothing in her book about it."
>>
>>21208024
"Is the spell she used on herself in there, or is that one of the things she left out?"
>>
>>21208024
just...
don't shut yourself in, kal.
if all you do is work on it... we wouldn't be the same, if you did come up with something in the end.
Please, don't bury yourself only to find out everything's changed or not worth it in the end
>>
>>21208024
"But Mala made herself immortal, didn't she? She just wants you to figure it out on your own."
>>
"Is the spell she used on herself in there, or is that one of the things she left out? Mala made herself immortal, didn't she?"
"The spell is just... a fancy healing spell. It repairs what organs start to fail when you age." She said. "Over and over. It cures the symptom, not the cause, and even she has a time limit. It takes... more and more energy to heal herself as time goes on, because her body's constantly breaking down. Her spell is not acceptable for us to use."
>>
>>21208145
"Why doesn't replacing the organs with new ones work?"
>>
>>21208145
"What are the forces at play? How come when you shapeshift into a form that ages slower you still age at your normal speed? Why does her body break down faster after being healed to exactly the same state it was before? It doesn't make sense to me."
>>
>>21208145
Exabyte, Is Azariel on his way to becoming "The Father"

If he's able to fight concepts, he must be on his way to becoming a concept himself. I would love some info about him and what is going on with him and the afterlife.
>>
"Why doesn't replacing the organs with new ones work?"
"It's... it's not just the organs, it's the entire body. " She said. "Even if the organs take, eventually it starts breaking down as well."
"How come when you shapeshift into a form that ages slower, you still age at your normal speed?"
"I'm not entirely sure." She said. "It's something about alchemy. I need more time to figure that out. Shapeshifting... doesn't change someone completely. Doesn't change their nature, or their talents, or their mind... it just changes the shape of their body."
"Why does her body break down faster after being healed to exactly the same state as it was before? It doesn't make sense to me."
"You know how... how when you get injured, and let it heal naturally, how it leaves a scar? It turns out that as time goes on, all the new parts your body grows... is less and less perfect, as time goes on. That's age. But... healing magic doesn't make anything 'perfect', it just speeds up that regrowing process. Eventually... everything is so faulty and so bad that it's impossible to live. And then if you force yourself to live further, you end up like Mala. Rotting off of her bone, with her body constantly breaking down..."
>>
>>21208259
"Oh. What about if you did it like Grayson? Make a whole new young body and move over somehow."
>>
>>21208288
Don't think that will work.

If I remember/read it right, he's a spell, a construct, kinda of pseudo life.
>>
"Oh." You say. "What about if you did it like Grayson? Make a whole new young body and move it over somehow."
"I'm not sure." She said. "Grayson is special, that way, to do it so easily. It would probably be a large ritual- something a lot like how we brought Cassiel back."
She frowned.
"I'll have to look into it." She said, and closed her eyes, kissing your cheek. "And even if all of this is impossible to change... then I can just sacrifice half of my lifetime in order to give the rest to you."
She shrugged, and crunched into another wafer of lembas bread.
>>
>>21208328
And we have souls that are literally made out of pure magic as well. And they go on after the body has died. And powerful ones like Gary can possess people.
>>
>>21208345
"Hopefully we won't need to do something that drastic."
>>
>>21208345
"Maybe I'm special too. The arakoatoa gave up their bodies. If I did that I wouldn't age any more, there would be nothing to age. Maybe I could even make a new body like my mother did."
>>
"Maybe I'm special too." You say. "The Arakoatoa gave up their bodies. If I did that, I wouldn't age anymore. There would be nothing *to* age. Maybe I could even make a new body like my mother did."
"Maybe." She said. "But we don't know how they did that. It could be something natural with their race, like the way the dwarves are, or there could be some... process, or ritual when they do that. And your father was human, and maybe that changed something..."
She frowned, and pulled you into another hug.
"I just... I don't want to stress about this." She said. "I want to do something about it. I'm... a great step closer to figuring it out. I... found out how to age things. Artificial aging."
>>
>>21208499
"Is that what the rats were for?"
>>
>>21208499
What about attaching my existence to another thing, like the dwarves did?
>>
>>21208499
"We can find out how they did that. I have a portal spell to their world as well. But it's not urgent. If you've already figured out ageing this quickly you should be able to do it backwards within 40 years."
>>
"Is that what the rats were for?" You ask, and she nodded.
"They all ended up dead." She said. "I could speed it up, but not slow it down. That's... probably why I had the nightmare."
"What about attaching my existence to another thing, like the dwarves did?"
"It changed them." She said. "Fundamentally. If you attached your existence to something, you... wouldn't be you anymore."
"We can find out how the Arakoatoa did that." You say. "I have a portal spell to their world as well. But it's not urgent. If you've already figured out aging this quickly you should be able to do it backwards within forty years." You say.
"That's what I'm hoping." Kaliel responded. The sun finished it's final few moments of peeking over the horizon, and then it finally sank beyond your view. Kaliel gave the sky a glance.
"This is beautiful." She said, staring up at the oranges and reds and purples of the sunset.
>>
>>21208625
No need to say anything.
>>
>>21208625
Sigh and hold her hand.
>>
You lay back, and clasp your hand with hers, staring up at the sky.
Eventually, the weight of the day slowly descended on you, and for a moment, just a moment, you close your eyes.
Quietly, incredibly quietly, Kaliel softly whistled a tune. You were about to ask her what it meant... but then you were asleep.

When you come to, morning's light shines in through your window. It's incredibly early, just after dawn, and Kaliel is curled up in your bed with you, snuggled under the covers. Carefully folded and set aside were your clothes from yesterday, put aside as she'd changed you out of your nightclothes. She had a small pile of books on her side of the bed, which weren't there before. You stir, and her eye opens a crack, amber light shining through, and then she closes it again, still mostly-asleep.
>>
>>21208821
Lie there for a bit. Seems like we always get up early.
>>
>>21208821
Give her a hug and a kiss.

Whisper through the ring <I'm going to get some breakfast for the both of us, stay in bed dear.>
>>
You roll over, and give Kaliel a hug and kiss.
"I'm going to get some breakfast for the both of us." You murmur. "Stay in bed, dear."
In response, she pulled you closer to her, and gave you a long, breathless kiss.
"I stayed up a bit late, so I'm going to sleep in, if that's fine." She asked, her eyes still mostly closed. She gave you a squeeze, and then went back to sleep proper.

You climb up and out of bed, getting dressed in one of your favorite frocks, making sure you had your armor in your inventory as usual, and strapping Rikar and your spellbook to each hip. You make your way down to the dining hall, and there you see Lewin and Selene sitting- Selene was apparently human again.
"Ishelda." Lewin said, grinning widely. "Did you see that thing outside? Showed up about an hour ago."
>>
>>21208975
"No, I haven't seen it. What is it?"
>>
>>21208975
"No, I've just got up. What happened?"
>>
"No, I've just got up." you say. "What happened?"
"It looks like a prism." Lewin said. "One of the flying airship ones, except smaller. It's not very fast, so it's still in the distance, but it's on it's way. From the east. Selene's never seen one before."
"Except the two flying above the castle, connected to that tower." Selene said. "The silver one and the big dark wooden one."
>>
>>21209018
It must be Kiyara and Ell. Let's prepare for their arrival by telling the people that handle that kind of thing. Or maybe send someone on the sparrow to greet them.
>>
>>21209018
"It must be the elves coming to visit. Maybe it's Ell and Kiyara."
>>
>>21209018
"A prism ship? Why do they need the Weave out here? You'd think they'd give me some warning instead of just suddenly turning up."
>>
>>21209018
"Those two are mine. The small one's the Sparrow, Kal got it from Kiyara and Ell, the large one's the Jormungandr, it used to be an Orcish ship until I messed with it. Oh the adventures we've been on.

It's probably the Elves, my guess would be some combination of Ell, Kiyara and Kyvann."
>>
>>21209018
Let's send a couple of Kalak on the sparrow to greet them. This seems quite sudden.
>>
>>21209018
So what they just show up into our airspace with no warning? The fuck.
>>
>>21209074
yes let's risk those who are nearly extinct
rather transform into kalak ourself and go check it out
>>
>>21209094
We could get Lea or Aeriel to teleport us. They might not recognise us in kalak form. Aeriel doesn't count as being risked because he's already dead.
>>
"It must be the elves coming to visit." You say. "Maybe it's Ell and Kiyara."
"Maybe." Lewin said. "I could try to talent it up and see if I can see the people on it."
"You still need to explain what you mean by your talent." Selene said.
"Hidden magical power that I unlocked by defeating an ancient, towering troll made of bark." Lewin said.
"Pff, yeah right." She responded.
"I should go greet them." You say. "This seems quite sudden."
"Do you want me to come with?" Lewin asked, and nodded to the corner of the room, where an armored lizardman sat, tearing apart some striplisk with his teeth. "Nahzit's over there if you want to bring some soldiers. Just in case, of course."
>>
>>21209094
If gehenna's there then they can just portal back and Zeke is a very powerful offensive caster. I doubt they'll be in much danger. Even so, Call up the elves on the rings and request information on what's going on.
>>
>>21209125
I meant Aeriel.
>>
>>21209115
"I don't think that's necessary. Feel free to use your Talent to take a look though."
>>
>>21209115
"I'd rather not appear threatening. If just take Aeriel I can teleport away if there is trouble."
>>
>>21209115
Let's call Zeke and Aeriel to come and bring a couple of guards. Let Kaliel know that we'll be gone a bit longer than expected.
>>
>>21209115
"Actually he's telling the truth about his Talent. It came to life when fighting a giant troll.

Talents are magical abilities outside of wizardry that are usually passed down through the family and work better the more true you are to yourself and to the origin and meaning of the talent. Thing's like Kristoph's anti-magic, Lewin and his sight, my own Sorcery.

Please do take a look.

I'll bring you and Nahzit, even if we don't need soldiers we may as well have a proper welcoming for them."

<Sorry Kal, I'll have breakfast up to you later if you want, an airship just showed up.>
>>
>>21209178
She's sleeping, shh
>>
"I'll bring you and Nahzit. Even if we don't need soldiers, we may as well have a proper welcoming for them." You say.
"Well, then." He said, getting to his feet.

"And Selene, he's actually telling the truth about his Talent. It came to life when fighting a giant troll."
"... Really?" She asked. "Nice one, Lew."
"In the spring, talk to Romulus about it." Lewin said. "He told me that these special abilities run in families. So maybe mom was more than just a hunter, before that bear got her."
"... Maybe." Selene said.

You, Lewin, Nahzit, and a token force of soldiers- most namely two lizardmen and Jeanne, end up on Sparrow. You look to the east, and a small, distant dot floated there- a prism, it looked- a large disk, with a tall crystal floating in the disk's center. As you urge Sparrow on, the prism got larger and larger, until you only see maybe two elves standing there.

"Hey, there's that one knight." Lewin said. "And a girl I've never seen."

Eventually, the airship darts near the prism, and you see an elf you hadn't seen in two years. Sir Verniad. Once an elven keeper, he came to fight the demons in the south with you. He personally confirmed the closure of the demon portal, getting badly injured by astral fire at the time.
"Your majesty!" He called, and bowed. The woman next to him anxiously looked to him and then bowed as well. "No doubt, Councilor Kiyara informed you of our arrival."
>>
>>21209265
"It's nice to see you, Sir Verniad, but I'm afraid she hasn't. What are you doing here?"
>>
>>21209307
I was writing a post literally identical to this.
>>
"It's nice to see you, Sir Verniad, but I'm afraid she hasn't. What are you doing here?"
"Erm... right." He said. "Um."
He cleared his throat.
"It has been decided, by council decree, to place a prism within New Arcturus, to serve as an embassy and as a gateway to the weave. The major proponents to such an action- namely, Judicator of the West, Absinad, Councilor Kiyara, and Judicator of the East, Kyvann, Councilor Leyaas, and Councilor Geheja'merelda elected myself to be the ambassador, based on my previous rapport with you during the military actions down south, two years and some months ago. I believe Councilor Kiyara was supposed to speak with you about this, but she must have forgotten."
>>
>>21209380
"Just as likely she hasn't had the opportunity, though we've spoken on the subject previously. Welcome, Ambassador Verniad."
>>
>>21209380
"That sounds lovely Ambassador Verniad. Allow me to formally welcome the two of you to New Arcturus, may you find it as pleasant a place to live as I do.

Now may I ask who the lady is?

I was about to have some breakfast, would you two care for some as well?"
>>
>>21209380
"Well, we'll be glad to have you, Ambassador Verniad."
>>
>>21209380
Wonderful! I've been wondering when the nations would request embassies here. And who might this lovely lady be? Are there any new arrivals besides yourselves? And will you be needing a place to live, or will the prism ship serve as your home?

>Also, ring home and have Gehenna and Cassiel prepare for their arrival.
>>
"Just as likely she hasn't had the opportunity, though we've spoken on the subject previously. We'll be glad to have you, Ambassador Verniad. Allow me to formally welcome the two of you to New Arcturus. May you find it as pleasant a place to live as I do. Now, may I ask who the lady is?"

The woman cleared her throat.
"I am Crafter Jaylnys. I'm here to anchor the prism once it is moved. And, I'm, well, The ambassdor's wife. Your majesty."

"I was about to have some breakfast." you say. "Would you two care for some as well?"
"Most certainly." The ambassador said. "But, sadly, we must continue to pilot this prism- it's not a proper prism ship, like Kyvann's ingenious one, but it's a mere levitating crystal. Perhaps when we arrive at Triune's Gift proper, but the breakfast then will be quite late."

"Are there any new arrivals besides yourselves?"
"Sadly, no, not quite yet." He said. "This should change soon, though, as no doubt, some of the eastern elves may want to visit, when the bridge is completed- which should be soon, I believe."
"And will you be needing a place to live, or will the prism ship serve as your home?"
"A place to live would be... ideal." He said. "I'm no stranger to the ground, but Jay isn't very comfortable there, and this isn't a proper ship, or a place to live. It's simply a relay of the weave, like many that are being sent to bridge this continent and the one to the east."
>>
>>21209532
"I'm sure we can arrange something. Perhaps a tower? Or rather, Gehenna can arrange something. He's very good about that sort of thing."
>>

>>21209532
When You arrive I'll have the details sorted and you can have the builders create a domicile to your specifications. Until then there is of course room in the castle to stay. Now, how about a little extra speed? No point in waiting if you don't have to, right?

Rolling to speed up the ship, unless we brought aeriel, then just port. Or have aeriel port here, then port us back.
>>
>>21209532
"I believe we can set up quarters for the both of you in a tower. Unless you want me to try to make a flying room, that actually seems rather doable."
>>
>>21209532
"Will I need to build one of those towers to put the prism on?"
>>
"I'm sure we can arrange something." You say. "Or rather, Gehenna can arrange something. He's very good about that sort of thing."
"I'm glad to hear it." He said.

"Will I need to build one of those towers to put the prism on?"
"Not at all." Jay said. "These relay prisms are designed to continually float, absorbing only very small amounts of power from the weave. It was originally suggested to construct a proper prism, complete with Growers to maintain the fields of flowers, but there was too much of a vehement reaction- so the embassy had to be toned down to this. I believe the councilor Kiyara worked on the original versions of these, which are currently heading east to concrete the weave to the eastern continent."

"Okay." You say. "Well, it will certainly be useful to have the Weave here."

<Aeriel, could you open a portal for the prism to get to Triune's Gift?>
<Buh, wha?> He asked, groggily. <Like, an elven prism? Wouldn't that break whatever connection they have to the weave?>

"Of course, it's to be noted that if the energy from the weave is stolen or used in projects other than airships and basic transport by non-citizens of the elven nation, reparations will have to be made." The old Keeper said. "I don't expect that to happen, but I'm supposed to say it nonetheless. Building and using airships to transport things are fine, but use of the bracers are prohibited, blah blah blah." He grumbled. "They gave me this entire list of things to say, but basically, it's illegal to steal magic unless it's used to fly airships to and from the elven nation, is what it looks like."
>>
>>21209797
Aeriel's groggy? I thought he didn't sleep.
"Fair enough. We have our own Galadriel's Light if we want to do our own projects."
>>

So it's illegal to use power, and it's illegal to use it as a relay for our own power? That's rather limiting. I guess I shall have to keep that up for good relations, but I can't promise I won't accidentally make it obsolete one night via drunken sorcery.
>>
>>21209797
<Sorry Aerial, I thought I was the last person to know. There's a mobile, floating elven prism nearby that they plan to install here as a part of the weave.>
>>
>>21209797
"Aww. So I can't use it to power up a portal to tear the city into another world?" Fake pout then a giggle
"I'm sure I wouldn't need it for that anyway."
>>
"Fair enough." You say. "We have our own Galadriel's Light if we want to do our own projects."
"That's good to hear." Keeper Verniad said, and then leaned back. "Again, if you have any questions or concerns to bring up with the elven nation, simply ask me. It's supposedly my job, now."

<Sorry Aeriel, I thought I was the last person to know. There's a mobile, floating elven prism nearby that they plan to install here, as a part of the weave.>
<That's good to hear.> He said. <But I don't think it's a good idea to translocate it or use a portal for it to get it here faster. If it's mobile, just wait."
>>
>>21209911
<Okay. Though I'm surprised you were asleep, I've almost never seen you sleep unless you got very drunk the night before.>

"How annoyed would the elven nation be if I made my own weave, but better?"
>>
Rolled 30

>>21209797
"We have to make our own magic battery powered by Galadriel's Light for that then. It would be easier if we simply fed our energy into the weave and used that but it is understandable that the old fears persist for a while."
>>
>>21209911
<Hmm, in that case, do you think you could translocate some breakfast to the prism for the ambassadors if I gave you its location and speed? I've no real idea of how draining that would be on you, so feel free to say no if it's an inconvenience.>
>>
>>21209911

"How annoyed would the elven nation be if I made my own weave, but better?"
"They'd say that they're very glad that you were able to do so, and blah blah blah, but they'd be envious and resent you quite a bit." He responded.
<Then can you send some breakfast over for us?> You ask.
<I can. You're having some breakfast with elves, right? I have a meal they'd enjoy...> He said. <The Cage gives me a good idea of where you are when you use the rings, so I can just... try... this.>

There was a flash of light, and some bowls of warm, sugary gruel appeared. Immediately, the ambassador and his wife both sat at one of the tables near their belongings.
"Erm, if you don't mind, your majesty, could you tell me a bit about yourself?" The elven woman asked, stirring up her gruel.

They've no doubt heard the stories of Queen Ishelda and how magic is a verb whenever she's around.

>Society of wizards, also, they know that magic is a verb when you're around.

"Of course I don't mind." You say. "Do you have any specific questions, or should I just try to give a general rundown?"
"Well, I've heard little else but stories." She said. "About the demons to the south, and the enslaved elves to the east, and the warped lands. When you first created New Arcturus, things were quite contentious in the council, and they say that you were responsible for Eidolon's recent appearance. I was responsible for Eidolon coming back. Though he came back somewhat crazy and tried to destroy the world.

As for the elves to the east, I was there on unrelated business, saw what was happening, decided it was wrong and killed the most powerful evil wizard because he tried to hurt me and the friends."

"Well not entirely. It used to be an Orcish vessel that me and Kiyara modified.

I helped in building it, made the magic storage crystals, awoke it somewhat so it has a tiny bit of independent will, I can't remember if I made it bigger on the inside than the outside, helped put in an array of enchantments and the various magic cannon on the ship were made mainly by Zeke.

I'll give you a tour. It ought to be fun. Oh the adventures the Jormungandr has seen."
>>

> I can't remember if I made it bigger on the inside than the outside
We didn't, that was a 'what iff' if we got the 100 on enlarging it.

Also, we should say most of that whilst touring, not beforehand. Remember we're showing off Kiyara's work, not our own.
>>
"Oh yes, I had just arrived in the Elven lands for the first time in an Orcish ship, which was then given to me in actual ownership. I had just met Kiyara, who had herself just solidified her design and needed a ship. I made the crystals with my talent, and she made them work.
Since then it's been upgraded a few more times by various people in several ways, but you're more than welcome to examine it."
>>
"Yes, I helped with the process." You say. "It was fun. It was her first airship that *worked*."
"I remember her being at the northern prism, wasting ship after ship to make one that flew." Jay said.
"Any yes, I helped a bit with sorcery. I imagine you'll have plenty of time to examine it while you're living on it."
"Wonderful." She said, grinning. "But for now I need to finalize the prism. One moment." She said. "And actually, it looks like that tower is your airship port. I can simply move it above there- that would be easiest."

Slowly, the prism hovered above the airship tower, and then Jay touched the crystal with her gauntlet, and the prism shuddered for a moment. New Arcturus was now connected to the weave.

"... I'll give you a tour." You say. "It ought to be fun."
"Thank you." She said, giving you a smile.
"It used to be an orcish vessel that me and Kiyara modified." You say, as you walk around inside the ship. "I made the magic storage crystal, and helped put in an array of enchantments."
She knelt down near some of the orichalum cabling, and gently touched it with a gauntlet.
"These are also Ell's work." She said. "The council pretends he isn't much, and he pretends he isn't either, but... he's as skilled as I am. Maybe even more."
"The various magic cannons on the ship were made mainly by Zeke and Ell." You continue, giving her more of the tour. "Oh, the adventures the Jormungandr has seen."
"This is so interesting." She said, eyes wide.

"And what I would give to hear them." She said.

"What sort of crafting do you usually work on?"

>>21211043
"Sure. Goldsteel golems aren't very good. If I could make a workforce of orichalum golems that would be useful."

>>21211100
Goldsteel is tougher and stronger than orichalum, meaning the golems are tougher, stronger, and better suited to physical tasks or combat.
>>
>>21211116
No, it's the other way around. Goldsteel is soft as shit.
>>
>>21211146
Nope. Goldsteel is tougher and heavier than orichalum. It's why the eastern elves make armor out of it, but the western elves don't make armor out of orichalum.

>>21211100
>>21211116
>>21211146
>>21211158
>Orichalum transfers significantly more magic, more efficiently, but it's soft as shit.
>Goldsteel is tougher, more durable, holds an edge longer, is incredibly dense, but it holds an enchantment only half as well as orichalum (but twice as well as non-transmuted material)

"That sounds lovely." You say. "I hope I'm able to teach you, as I learned through a rather nonstandard method. Would you like to do that here, or down at one of the various workshops?"
"I have a small impromptu workshop up on the prism." She said. "I have glass, bronze, steel, anything you'd need for transmuting." She said.

"I get the feeling you can make spellcrystals from a variety of things. Do they each have different properties?"
"They do, but you only have two choices." She said. "It's glass or quartz, or nothing." She said. "Quarts is better for making smaller, more delicate and more compact crystals, and glass is easier to shape, and can carry a lot more power. Prism crystals are made out of glass, with quartz cores."

The two of you make your way back up to the prism, where Verniad was sleeping.
"Erm, please don't be offended." She said. "But Verniad, well, he's not the most extroverted person. I'm not sure why he came to be ambassador, out of anybody."
She looked over to a set of tables, each with strange devices and supplies.
"So, which should we do first? Western artificing, or eastern?" She asked.
>>
>>21211158

>>
>>21211186
So why do the western elves never use goldsteel?
>>
>>21211246
Because for mundane tools and shit they just use regular metal, and for magic they use orichalum since it's better.
>>
>>21211246
because they don't actually do any work, if they need to dig a hole they make a hole digging crystal, and put it in a bracer.
>>
>>21211246
>>21211198
Politics I imagine. Whoever holds orichalicum probably has a monopolizing deathgrip on other metals.
It could also be that Eidolon preferred orichalicum and the entire elven race has been all but worshiping him for the last few centuries.
>>
>>21211261
They still make golems. And golems are better in goldsteel. So why did they scrap that and start making them in orichalum instead?
>>
>>21211284
They don't make golems anymore. The golem Bubbles was inhabiting was a relic from another age.
>>
>>21211284

"Was it his choice to come? It sounds a bit like he was bullied into it."
"He wasn't, he did want to come." She said, looking over to him. "I'm just not sure why, and I'm too... well, polite to ask him. It's something that seems... too touchy to ask."

You look over to the table.
"I'll try to teach you the eastern cores." You say. "And I'll make some goldsteel first."
"Okay." She said, watching you intently.

First, you take some bronze wire, and quickly shape it into a setting for the core that will soon sit there, and then, with a simple spell, you transmute it into goldsteel.

Next, you take a handful of water, scooping it up, and pouring your own magic power into it. Eventually, You said a single word of power, and it crystallized, turning into a teardrop of a hard, glasslike material. You slipped the teardrop into the setting, and the core was complete.

"... Interesting." She said, scratching out the spell to create the water cores. "Can I examine it?"

>Mithril holds the same amount of enchantment as non-transmuted metals; like steel, or iron, or bronze. Copper is unnatural that it's a *teensy bit* better at holding enchantments, alongside bone and certain types of wood.
>Alchemized materials aren't easy to alloy- the magic that transmuted them makes it impossible to alloy them properly. You can make a composite, though.

>>21211319
>Western Golems exist, and they're made now and then, but they're too sluggish and useless for much- if anything, they're used for toys, and usually made by crafter parents.
"Of course." You say. "That's what I made it for."
"Wonderful." She said, taking a look at it. She took the core in her gauntlet, and smiled.
"This is... much, much better than using a spellcrystal as a power core." She said. "The goldsteel setting would be better if it was orichalum, though..."
Soon, she put the core back down, and took some more bronze wire, and a few bits of glass.
"I'll make... I don't know, some sort of bracer." She said. First, she wove the wire around her wrist, and then incanted a simple spell, pouring her magic into the wire, and it suddenly sheened gold, as orichalum. Next, she cast another spell on the glass. It hummed, and started glowing blue. She took a tool from the table, and started carving into the crystal.
"This is a minor version of a crafter's gauntlet." She said, when she was done. She slipped it off. "Go ahead, it's yours. You might find it useful."

As you slip on the bracer, you find that... Nothing is different. At all.

You poke the bracer, and you feel enchantment magic inside of it spring free. You close your eyes, but you don't feel anything strange or out of the ordinary, even as you focus. You can feel the prism like normal, and the enchantment on her own gauntlet...
"Yours isn't as major as a true gauntlet." She said. "It's mostly useful for feeling the web of enchantment around an enchanted item. But that one's makeshift, so it's not as good as a proper one. I'll make you a proper one later, if you wish."

You take the bracer off, and slide it into your inventory.
She quickly looks behind you, thinking you'd dropped it behind your head.
"Erm..." She shook her head. "Moving on. You said you could make golems. Could you show me? A simple one? I can quickly copy down my carving manual for you, if you want. It tells you how to translate spell runes and such into a form you can use with spellcrystals. It's not perfect, and you have to fiddle with homemade spells, but you get used to that."

You give her a smile, and then bend over the workbench.

You're utterly infamiliar with the tools... at first. As soon as you take a few in hand, you intuitively know exactly what they do, and what they're used for.
You take a bit of metal, and transmute a bit of it into orichalum, and a bit of it into goldsteel, quickly shaping it and it's limbs. You create a brand new, smaller core, and quickly picking up on the concepts behind carving spellcrystals, you weave small enchantments into the limbs, much more efficiently than the standard 'pure goldsteel' enchantments. Small tendrils of light burst from the marks in your arms, as you slowly weave wizardry into the golem as well...

And then you pull away from the small spider, a nigh-perfect replica of Bubbles' old golem body...

Except with a simple black tophat, and a small circular eyeglass on it's face.

Robotically, it asked if anybody would like some tea, in an orcish accent. You only made it to understand 'yes' or 'no', sadly, so it isn't truly intelligent.

"Yes please." Jay asks, and the spider gets to brewing tea, complete with spitting fire in order to heat it.
>>
>>21211846
"And that's how you make tea golems, the best kind of golem."

"Lil' Bubbles, could I have some tea please?"
"Right away, milady!" He says in that thick orcish accent. The spider nodded to you, and did a little bow... and then stupidly dumped out the tea on the ground, and started anew.
"... You'll need to fix that." She said, and giggled. You reach toward it, and quickly teach it to understand *when* it's making tea, so that it won't restart every time someone asks it for some.
"Let's hope the tea it makes is good, I could really use some." You say.
"You like tea, don't you?" She asked. "I understand that your people have a really good sense of taste. What's that like?"

Us nobles buy all the chocolate we can afford from the lizardmen, and a few enterprising Growers who are trying to get the trees to grow on our soil. But I see what you mean. It would be impossible to explain color to someone who was blind."

"Really? I have to say, I am interested..." She said, as you opened the door to the tower.

She immediately closed her eyes for a moment, and then took a deep breath.
"Okay, let's, um, hurry." She said. Taking her hand, you quickly make your way across the courtyard, eventually reaching the gate proper.
Her eyes closed, she stepped in, and took another deep breath. She had a cold sweat on her face as you closed the door, and then she opened her eyes.
"That... wasn't as bad as the first time I ended up on the ground." She said, wiping her brow. "They called it a, um, panic attack."
Now safe, the two of you made your way toward the kitchens. You see Cassiel, sitting at a table with Kaliel next to him, and a very fluffy, full-grown kalak. He'd moulted, but for whatever reason, his feathers were still fluffy, and with a very light brown, almost yellow plumage.

Frustrated, he patted at his plumage... and you hugged him, smooshing down his plumage.
"Oh, I get enough of that when I'm elven." He said, grumbling.
"You need to teach me." Jay decided, pointing at Cassiel. "How to make chocolate. These are delicious."
"Um..."
"I will pay you." She said.
"There's no need, no need at all. How good are you at transmutation?" Cassiel said.
"I'm an alchemist." She responded.

Jay was too busy enjoying her cookies to notice.
"My cookie..." You say, frowning.

"Well, how about some more?" Marigold asked, giving you a proud smile. She held a tray of warm, still steaming cookies in her oven mitts, before setting them down. "Hello! I'm Marigold, princess of New Arcturus, and sometimes Regent, when her majesty is off adventuring.

<Well, okay.> She said. <Provided that I'm the only one in your harem. Unless I can figure out a way to shapeshift me into two bodies.>

"Do you have any other secret recipes, Cassiel?"
"It's not very secret." He responded, holding up another scrap of paper, sliding it over to you. You slide it into your inventory, to copy it over later.

Suddenly, there was a loud smashing noise, as something burst through the door. Something small and golden charged toward you... and then skidded to a stop, in front of you.

Lil' bubbles set down two teacups.
"Your tea, milady!" It said, and turned to Jay. "Your tea, milady!"
It turned to Cassiel. "Your tea, milady!" It called, pretending to set down a third teacup.
"... What." Marigold said, examining it.

"It's tea, obviously." Jay said, and took a sip. You take your own sip.

It's very delicious.
