Good evening /tg/, it's time for the Civilization Quest again. Last Saturday's thread failed due to lack of concerted response. That means there is THIS thread and ONE more chance remaining.

That said, I hope everyone's still on-board with this! I'm willing to keep this thread going as long as people are willing to play!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21083964/

The full archives for the quest are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

ALERT
Low food!
>>
>>21153680
Given the village's rapidly dwindling food stocks, the tribe takes to the boats, fishing for their food. While the haul isn't exactly overwhelming, it's sufficient and serves as a nice boost to the stores.

The Wise Ones report they are making some real progress on the calendar. They claim that soon, they expect something of a breakthrough. They then go on to say that by the system they're currently working on 'soon' is a very nebulous term that could mean anything from 'before lunch' to 'before you die of old age'. They're sent back to try again...

A handful of scouts and Wise Ones paddle upriver to ask Rina for her help in translating for them. The priestess gives her agreement and the party proceeds back downstream to the new tribe. The party arrives in the strange village, again to little fanfare. The tribesfolk seem fairly unconcerned by the appearance of strangers in their community.

The village seems fairly larger, perhaps more so than back home, with a wooden palisade around it and fields outside the walls. It's worth noting that the docks are just outside the walls, with a series of shelters, drying racks and smokehouses decorating the shore, along with rafts, log-canoes and strange, bowl-like craft made from animal hide stretched over a wooden frame, pulled up on the shore.

What will the party do?
A) Look around
B) Talk to the villagers
C) Ask to be taken to the elders

> Yes. Yes it most certainly is. Thank goodness. If this quest died, I might do something productive with my evenings, gods forbid!

Rina addresses one of the villagers in their own speech. There's some slight problems at first, but she quickly overcomes them. Once she has made it clear that they are from UPstream, rather than DOWN, the group is instantly treated wit ha great deal more curiosity and enthusiasm. The woman she approached brings the party into the main village and towards a very large hut; a longhouse with two roundhouses built onto the sides. The walls are mud-daubed wicker, from what can be seen and the roof made of thick bundles of dried grass.

Inside, a large fire smoulders in a shallow pit, the embers keeping the room unseasonably warm. Women and a few men sit at benches and tables, talking or working on various small crafts. At one end of the room, a large, carved wooden chair with a high back sits, a bearskin thrown over it and few smaller chairs beside its bulk. In front of the table before these, a powerfully-built man, looking like he is getting on a little in age, wrestles playfully with a boy still a few years off adulthood. Seeing the approaching party, he trips the boy, flipping him harmlessly to the floor, straightening up and looking over the group curiously. "You do not look like the ordinary traders," he says, frowning a little, "You wear too many skins and furs. Who are you? What do you want?"

How will the party respond? Give attitude and specific words.
A) Humbly, as though addressing a better
B) Commandingly, as though addressing an inferior
C) Confidently, as though meeting on equal terms
D) Formally, as though meeting someone important
E) Informally, as though speaking as friends
F) Curiously, questioning about the village and other things

It's great giving me an attitude guys, but I don't have anything to work from here. What would you like Rina to say on the tribe's behalf?
>>

I'll post something in a minute.

Ask about their gods, what they need, tech level, and if they'd be willing to trade anything

"We are the lord of the river, we have tamed it's gods and defeated all those who oppose our rule. We do not seek war, we seek peace, understanding, and trade. If you will come to us under the great clan Wolfsbane we wish to push our world into the future, but do not cross us. WHen risen to anger the long fangs are fierce in our retribution. We have fought gods in the past... and we have won."

Sorry about missing the last two sessions but I guess I vote B) not that it matters.

none here
>>
>>21154604
May I add one thing? Have Rina have a a sentence for each of our gods tagged into the speech, it doesn't have to be in the fluff but I think we should reflect our really ingrained faith.
>>
>>21154604
nope
>>
>>21154502
"We are the lord of the river, we have tamed it's gods and defeated all those who oppose our rule. The spirit of the river grants us her bounty, the spirits of snow and the sun favour us. We do not seek war, we seek peace, understanding, and trade. If you will come to us under the great clan Wolfsbane we wish to push our world into the future, but do not cross us. When risen to anger the long fangs are fierce in our retribution. We have fought gods in the past... and we have won. The greatest among us humbled the god of battle and slew the white wolf spirit."

The man scratches his beard and considers for a moment, "Proud words for a stranger," he grunts, "You come from no-where with tales of your deeds and say my clan should come you? Hah! I have heard nothing of you before this time. Trade we may agree on, but to join you? I think not." He points a finger at Rina confrontationally, "You've given me reason to fear your might, or at least words enough to make any man who is not a fool think twice, but what do you offer my people and myself?"

How will Rina respond?
A) Lavish offer
B) Average offer
C) Meagre offer
D) Other
E) Change subject

Please give specifics along with a category.
>>
>>21155024
tech for tech if they have any tech to trade, if not tech for resources that we don't have, if not that then tech for food
B
>>
>>21155024
B) our food supplies are low
>>
>>21155024
A) An offer of non military technology, to show how we want to bring the entire world into the future, along with:
D) An explanation of our gods and a question of what gods they have, and finally these words:

"The world deserves to be a better place, we offer your tribe to be one of a clan among equals, we already have bonded ourselves with the tribe 'River Brothers', and seek to bring more into the fold. The clans shall rule together under the great banner Wolfsbane."
>>
>>21155067
this sounds good
>>
>>21155067
I agree with the technology offer, but the union thing is just too rash. We just met these guys, how do they know we don't talk bullshit?
>>
>>21155253
I am not talking another political marriage, merely trade ties and technological exchange. At a later date we can bond our tribes more securely. Or maybe we can invite them to the yearly salmon fishing. That's helped us bond with the river brothers.
>>
>>21155300
I think we should bond the lion tribe before we start to bond with this tribe.
>>
>>21155313
I say we do both at the same time, we have enough heroes that there's political marriages to go around.
>>
>>21155332
Then I say next turn we use our point to work on relationships with neighboring tribes but first we need to find out if they except our trade of technologies and knowledge of gos.
>>
>>21155384
Yes, I say we turn away from tech increasing for a short while and instead go for increasing our its with other cities. If we pull this off we might be able to call ourselves a "kingdom" soon.
>>
>>21155067
The man listens to Rina, as she translates the Wise Ones offer into the foreign dialect. He remains silent throughout the offer of sharing the tribe's secrets, but brightens up at the explanation of the tribe's faith. "Ahh, so you are the ones who named Groza! We too honour the battle god, though we have little cause to call upon him. For the most part, we simply call upon Perwan, to ensure our fields keep a bountiful harvest. A few honour the foreign goddess too, Yeneth. A little luxury is deserved, is it not? After all, we have the time for it now!" He laughs loudly and smirks, "Though... My tribe will remain apart." He stresses the word 'my', very subtly, "If you think you have anything to offer us, you may by all means, send people downstream to trade. I will see if they have anything worth our time.

"For now though, I've given you enough of mine already. You can leave." He turns his back on the party and calls for a drink, which a woman brings for him in a silver cup.

The group has been dismissed
A) Leave the village
B) Look around some more
C) Talk to some of the others
>>
>>21155491
A
>>
>>21155300

B.

Sorry I'm late guys. I think we might want to try and tone down our accomplishments a wee bit so as not to anger these strangers with boasts of our greatness so early. Especially since it seems that they are a fair bit more advanced than us in at least the area of fortifying their holdings.
>>
>>21155491
A) I think we got what we want.
>>
>>21155523
Should have refreshed earlier. That b vote was for the tech trading.

C on this vote. Though that guy is clearly their leader, i'd imagine there are a couple other important people on their tribe, might as well see what we can learn.
>>
>>21155491
C, also is any one else sorta offended that he gave us permission to leave? or am I just reading to much into that?
>>
>>21155609
Yea this guy is an arrogant bastard. Maybe not even worth making friends with but only time will tell.
>>
>>21155491
C, I sense that one drop of poison in this man's drink and we could have the tribe for ourselves in a matter of hours.
>>
>>21155654
Groza's gonna be super pissed if he finds out about this!

We're just guests in his village, so his attitude seems normal to me. If we're gonna have actual issues with them, we should settle them through an actual war, not sneaky crap
>>
>>21155765
Fine, a spear through the heart. That should keep Groza happy.

We are guests on his lands. Whilst his manners are an affront to our honor, we must not condemn the people his tribe and ours to death, over simple pleasanties.
Also, they have silver! DO WANT!!
A)
>>
The group tries to see what they can gather by talking to the other villagers. It turns out, the reason so few remarked on the tribe's arrival previously was because this village regularly has contact from further downstream. Traders come from down the river to barter goods for crops and furs. These strangers bring metal tools and weapons, as well as fine cloth and pots. The chief's silver cup was a gift from the traders as a sign of goodwill. (It is worth noting the term 'chief'. The Wolfsbane tribe is ruled by consensus among the heads of the families, not by one man). The strange tribe seems quite content with their existence, as the prosperity from trading allows them to have some time for their own pursuits.

What will the party do?
A) Look around the village
B) Try to glean some specific information
C) Leave the village
D) Other

>>21155609
He did seem rather rude. Perhaps you upset him somehow? Or maybe he's just a prick.
>>

>>

B) Lets see if we can get these traders to make the journey a bit father upriver to our tribe.
>>

>>
B) lets see if we can meet these traders
>>
>>21155873
B) find you were the other traders are
>>
>>21155873
D. Let's see if we can find some traders who would be willing to to come up to our neck of the woods too. Trade brings about a great and many things, guys. Or at least talk to come weapons merchant about what kind of stuff their rocking, perhaps? Bronze please, I'd like to learn about bronze, please.

And he was rude, but I'd imagine because we busted up in his village saying that he needed to join us and become part of our clan. Better relations will flow from mutual respect of each others positions.
>>
If someone does not willing want to come into the future then we only have the option of dragging them into it, kicking and screaming if necessary. Let us ally with the Lion Tribe by proposing the idea of subjugating this one.

The future is ours for the taking, Wolf, Lion, and Snake (the river brothers) shall bring the world into tomorrow.
>>
>>21155957
I think we should work on getting the river brothers completely under our wing they have a large population. If we combine our workforces think of all the things we could accomplish.
>>
>>21155957
Speaking of the copper tribe, we should probably check in on them and see if they've made any advancements in metallurgy. Perhaps they've come across some tin. That's for next turn anyway.
>>
At the Wise Ones behest, Rina makes some enquiries with members of the tribe. It seems that the traders come upriver only once every few months, sometimes less, sometimes more. They've been trading for a few years now. All that is know however, is that they come from downriver. This tribe doesn't seem to be great river-farers, so they have never gone to look. Apparently however, the boats the traders use are impressive; more so than simple rafts. The 'coracles' this tribe uses are apparently based on the design. One man shows off the axehead that he gained in trade; a strange, copper-like metal that seems slightly off-colour. They also claim that the chief has a very long knife of the metal, as long as his forearm and half again!

The Wise Ones decide they have learned enough and with no way of knowing when the traders will return, decide to leave.

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
E) Hold a cultural event (specify)
F) Craft specific objects
G) Send envoys to another tribe
H) Other
I) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>21156058
We need to capture a few deer and pen them up so they don't die off completely. In the other threads I believe you said there were some left but barely any.
>>
>>21156069
D) keep working on the calander
G) send an envoy to the river brothers to talk about a festival they are invited to
D) see if we can make copper rings

I was think for the rings to have malachite on them since malachite can be made pretty and that could be our gift to all tribes that join us since no one so far seems to have nice jewelry.
>>
>>21156051
*twitch twitch*

There is a city state somewhere down river. We need to advance quickly so we may destroy them when the time comes.
>>21156069
G) Send an envoy to the lion tribe, talk to them about the possibility of bonding the tribes around a marriage to our priest of battle Gerin. Also propose a great tournament between the two tribes to strengthen relations.
F) God armor, wooden sheets with carved symbols of our gods and other painted pieces. It should have small bone carvings of the god symbols as well. We need some super natural protection.
B)Send out a lot of people to gather plants, and have them be on the look out for any plants with seeds that could be used to put into our fields.
>>
>>21156069
A. Explore up the river this time.
D. Continue work on the calendar.
G. Send envoys to the copper tribe

This would count as H since the capture and domestication of deer
so
H: deer
D: Calender
I: Ask Elders
>>
>>21156134
I'd like to explain my G vote to see if I can swing a couple votes.

The copper tribe is as skilled, if not more skilled by this point, in metallurgy as we are, so it stands to argue that they've probably made advances of some kind so it might be of great benefit to visit and see what's going down with them lately.

I'd also like to speak to the river brothers but since those encounters will probably trigger events I figured one each turn would be good.
>>
>>21156186
The Elders are concerned with the news brought back from downriver, but for the most part are optimistic. Their main concern is what they can gain from this new meeting.

Otherwise, there is quite a bit of division. Some of the elders want to focus on exploring and mapping the area, others want to celebrate, some are driven by fears about the food supply and yet others want to focus on making things, now that the tribe has some real leisure time (one in particular just wants his booze. He's getting quite depressed)!
>>
>>21156474
Change the I into A and send our scouts upriver ths time.
H: deer
D: Calender
A: Scouts Upriver
>>
>>21156069
Howdy, happy I made it.
I'm going D) Calender
G) Go talk to the copper/lion tribe about marriage and such
and I'm going to second the deer pen idea so
H) Go round up them deer
>>
The Wise Ones continue their work into a calendar system and seem to have finally stumbled onto something workable. They claim that its full completion may take some time however. Their idea is still in its infancy, but seems to be based mostly on the phases of the moon.

Several hunters set out and do their level best to herd some deer into an area to keep them contained. The skittish beasts prove tricky and fast however and the bare handful that are tricked into the penned areas simply leap over the fences in great, panicked bounds.

> Vote was tied on the final issue. The tribe could not decide whether to send an envoy to the Lion Tribe, or the River Brothers.
>>
>>21156743
Can we build pens high enough that the deer wouldn't be able to leap over and how high would they have to be?
>>
>>21156769
How about we don't pen up deer since deer work better as wild animals. Hrunti would like it if we just stopped hunting.
>>
>>21156586
Ohh, little too late, Mojo
