Olenus Primaris... where the hell did it all go so very wrong?
A week has pasted since the full 20 Regiments of the campaign landed planetside. The mission parameters: subjugation or elimination of a rebelious populist movement lead by the Subsector Governor, Goliath Mekanus, which had gripped all three primary hive cities. Plagued from the start by equipment shortages, poor logistics support, and nonexistant supply lines, the campaign's success seemed decades away, especially considering that the rebel elements possessed vastly higher quality weapons and heavy ordinance than had been expected. Even worse, High Command was silent, giving little to no support to those on the ground. Spirits among the loyal Guardsmen soared when the Astartes arrived in orbit; Ultramarines, First and Second Companies, and with them the fresh and fully supplied Cadian 842nd. The men joked that at least the Space Marines arrived at the start of the campaign to steal the glory, and not after decades of bloody warfare. But then the shit really hit the fan.

Just as the fight was turning against the rebel PDF across the hive cities the disguised Ultramarines revealed their heresy. All across Olenus Primaris, in a highly organized, methodical ambush, the Alpha Legion exploded from within the ranks of the Guard. The Hive Secundus Task Force went dark, and no word was heard from any Regiments posted there. Hive Primaris and Hive Tertius were bombarded with thousands of junk messages, false-flags, threats of Exterminatus, and bad intelligence. Chaos and confusion ruled the day, and the Gaurd struggled to coordinate any sort of resistance to the wave of Traitor Astartes. Colonel Gaius Scavolo of the 81st Brigwick lead the efforts to control the flow of information from his Forward HQ at the Hive Primaris. Though his efforts were successful, the 81st position was being weakened by heavy artillery bombardment. Meanwhile, Major Danielle Lightfoot of the 145th Hellguard spearheaded the effort to organize the heavily scattered Tertius Task Force. One figure stood above the rest, however, that man was Commissar Nathaniel Haas. Though he was humble about his role, many saw him as the glue which held the Gaurd on Olenus Primaris together. His bravery while leading the 19th Balaster Penal Legion became legend overnight. The living hero won further respect by silencing the heretical ambitions of Lukas Mastor, commander of the Cadian 842nd, who's men, upon landing planetside, swore vengeance on the loyal Gaurdsmen who supported Haas.

At this darkest hour, General Markus Linna, the head of Task Force Gauntlet, appeared in system to relieve the beleagured Guard and to bring fire and death to the Traitor Astartes in the Emperor's Name. General Linna and his armored Regiment appeared on the battlefield of Tertius Hive like a hammer upon a ripe melon, splitting and routing the cowardly heretics like so much chaff in the wind. Meanwhile, the 81st Brigwick, having secured a temporary cease-fire with the populists brought the combined artillery of the rebel guns and the Kilbeck Regiments upon the Traitor Marines at the Hive Primaris. Still, the forward HQ and communications hub was crumbling. Timely relief, in the form of the heroic Sergeant Matheys and his equally gallant Regiment, the 1st Drusian Crusaders, and the 19th Marston Penal Legion, turned the tide and allowed the two Task Forces to combine at the relatively safe Hive Tertius. VO Bailey of the 75th Liongrad was declared Martyr, and the morale of the battered Guard rose. Sadly, Commissar Haas was declared KIA, and all loyal Guard mourned his passing.

With the flase-flag operations waning, General Linna easily organized his ad-hoc Task Force Tertius (TFT), compiling all remaining loyal Guard which could be contacted. The Traitor Astartes elements, seemingly elimanated or routed beyond recognition, allowed the TFT to turn their eyes (and lasguns) at securing the Hive Tertius. Unfortunately, the Gaurd still faced many problems. The originally stressed supplies were now hopelessly low. The task force had few vehicles or air assets, and precious few fresh Regiments. The fighting within the hive and upon the ashen wastes were fierce. At this time, many units distinguished themselves, worthy of the Emperor's Praise. The 19th Marston Penal, the 145th Hellguard, the 1st Drusian, the 1st and Only Heavy Snipers, 49th Catachan, and the fortitiously arriving 287th Elysian, to name a few. One group even located the supposedly dead Commissar Haas, still alive and fighting the heretical elements.

Commissar Haas, following the RF tags of a friendly Regiment lost in the confusion, has discovered the meat of the heretic plot; a summoning of epic proportions. The heroes of the campaign rushed to the Commissar's aide as he led the Skullfuckers ever onwards towards the missing Leviathan of the Lord Militant Arcturus Golias, now overtaken by traitors and heretics. At thistime, Goliath Mekanus, governor and populist, attempted to repatriate from his fortress at Hive Secundus, but his communications went dark before a true peace could be made. Haas bid those who had followed him, besides the 19th Balaster, to return and protect his advance towards his objective. True to his word, his faith brought the shields protecting the cowardly down and he instructed the Guard to give them the bloodiest of noses. The Guard obliged. As the ordinance struck the Leviathan, everything within 20km erupted into fire. The astropaths of all ships in in orbit explode, and the ships themselves beging to fall like rocks from orbit. Every vox-caster planetside erupted with a dark voice, rich and thick and slick with promise, it was Haas. He had pledged himself to Tzeencth, to the Changer of Ways and the Lord of Lies. His grand sacrifice, Lord-Miliant Golias, and his Leviathan, was accepted, and the now daemonic Haas rose to led the forces of Chaos against his former brothers.
>>
The bloodied Guard struggled to evacuate all it could in the wake of the disaster, but the lack of APCs, Valkyries, and other fast action vehicles meant many assets were left to wither and die in the ashen wastes around Hive Primaris and ground zero of the vile summoning. A glimpse of hope arose when the a Company of crusading Black Templars arrived in orbit. Marshal Sarusmund of the Black Templars promised aid to the Guard, but after their initial transmission nothing more was heard of them. Their ship floated silently in orbit, another symbol of the misplaced hopes of hopelessly fucked heroes of the Imperium of Man.

At this new darkest hour word finally came from the 144th Diech out of Hive Secundus. They reported that Hive Secundus was gone, sacrificed to the man by vile heretics to appease their dark gods. They came out of the meat grinder with 4 regiments of rebel PDF, surrendered to the Emperor's Judgement, and begging to fight alongside their ever-loyal enemies against the tide of Chaos. They also brought the rebels vehicles, both land and air, and equipment that the Guard sorely needed. With vile daemons licking the heels of the 144th, the 15th Marfos, 47th Kilbeck, and the tattered remnants of the 19th Marston rushed to their brother Guardsmens aid. The fighting was thick and deadly, and as the 144th's last commanding officer, Major Vicard Cicero was being overwhelmed a mysterious unidentified transmission assured him his prayers were answered. The bright white light of an orbital drop filled the 144th's lines. A small contingent of Serephim, led by Sister Palatine Agustina of the Order of the Fiery Heart, exploded through the lines of the vile. Traitors and heretics fell to their knees and begged fro death and for forgiveness. With the help of the dramatic entrance of the Adeptus Sororitas, the Guard spurred by dauntless resolve of Major Lenz of the 47th Kilbeck, crushed the heretical elements and rallied along the trenchlines of the TFHQ. Major Lenz and Major Cicero are both reported as alive, though both have been critically wounded. More Martyrs blood on the ashen ground of Olenus Primaris.

Finally, victories began to be scored by Imperial Forces. The 287th and 1st and Only began to preform hit and run operations against heretic convoys, robbing them of valuable supplies, including several Superheavy tanks. However, soon a group of Khornate Berserkers appeared, forcing the Imperial Troops to hold their ground. The Hit-and-Run units began to take the brunt of the assault, but were soon vanquished by support from 15th Marfos and the 47th Kilbecks. Once those units retreated, the Kilbecks began to take the brunt of the defense against the Khornates. Imperial Guard forces were roped into helping rebel, non-Chaos PDF into defending themselves from the attack. As the fighting grew, Imperial Forces drew their trump card- the 957th Cadians used a nuke they had found earlier in the fighting to vaporize Hive Secundus. Meanwhile, Imperial Air Support under the 287th Elysians reinforced the Kilbeck Siege Infantry fighting on the front lines. Now, as Imperial Troops begin to must themselves for another attack, something dark is stirring in the Chaos ranks...

The following is a list of Regiment serving the campaign.
>>

++Snake bites heel. Primus.++
>>
The following units were originally deployed to Olenus Primaris at the campaigns outset, and are still active:

- 75th Liongrad Spirejumpers: Homeworld militarization has psychologically prepared regiment for heavy fighting. Regiment is outfitted primarily for urban warfare, and skill sets common among the regiment's Guardsmen compliment this loadout efficiently. Took part in the heavy fighting at the planetary capital, Primaris Hive. Liongrad contributed the campaign's official martyr, Guardsman Bailey, who bravely called an artillery strike in on his own position to destroy a column of Chaos berserkers. Bailey, however, later reappeared alive and well. Declared a Living Saint by General Linna, some distrust the 75th Liongrad, due to the unfortunate parralels between Bailey's recovery and that of Traitor Haas. Reporting at 30% Combat Readiness, and insanely high morale. Located at TFHQ.
- 957th Stormtrooper Regiment: Drastically undersupplied Stormtrooper regiment, veterans of the fighting at Primaris Hive who also played a large role in covering the relocation of the Primaris Task Force to Hive Tertius. They have been held in reserve since, and this has had a deleterious effect on the regiment's morale. Reporting 43% Combat Readiness.
>>
- 47th Kilbeck Siege Infantry: Unit is noted as entirely consisting of noble scions and volunteers from among a ruling military elite on the world of Kilbeck. Noted as both a hard-fighting and elite regiment, as well as purely fanatical in their devotion to the Emperor. Commissariat contingent has noted that disciplinary executions are necessary 'only in cases where zealous hatred of the Emperor's foes would jeopardize a battle plan. Originally deployed to Hive Primaris, the unit has only recently seen what they consider hard combat during the Sally Forth to the 144th. Word has spread that should Major Lenz succumb to his injuries that he be made the new Martyr of the campaign. Recently defended Imperial Headquarters from Kornate cultists, suffering heavy losses in the process Reporting 48% Combat Readiness, located in the Trnches
- 19th Marston Penal Legion: Penal Legion consisting of Roughriders recruited under the Marston Plan. Though originally rated as untested and drastically undersupplied, the 19th has exceeded all expectations. Despite sustaining heavy casualties on nearly every front of the war, including Primaris, Haas's Push, the rescue of the 144th, and the defense of TFHQ, the 19th Marston refuses to go quietly into the night. YIP YIP YAHOO! Reporting 13% Combat Readiness, attached to the 47th Kilbeck.
- 49th Catachan Jungle Fighters: Light Infantry regiment from the death world of Catachan. A skilled and motivated unit that fought its way through the debacle at Primaris Hive. They're currently stuck deep underground beneath the Hive Tertius. Reporting 20% Combat Readiness, and some hope of resurfacing, with a clear line out available.
>>
- 15th Marfos Light Infanry: Elite Light Infantry regiment from the agri-world of Marfos. Diverted by Alpha Legion ruses, the 15th Marfos took no part in the initial fighting, but has performed well since arriving at TFHQ. Reporting 73% Combat Readiness. Located on the trenchline guarding TFHQ.
- 48th Kilbeck Siege Infantry: Unit is noted as entirely consisting of noble scions and volunteers from among a ruling military elite on the world of Kilbeck. Crippled by a variety of morale issues, the 48th have yet to truly engage the enemy. The Commissariat reports that the 48th is now 'properly motivated and ready for combat.' Reporting 89% Combat Readiness, located at the front lines, engaging cultists.
- 31st Thunderfall Mechanized Infantry: Veteran Regiment consists of the firstborn sons and daughters of every noble family on the world of Thunderfall. The 31st Thunderfall held off Chaos berserkers at Hive Tertius, preserving the Imperial bridgehead until reinforcements could arrive. Their sacrifice has given the campaign a fighting chance, but it would be a hard thing to ask more of the 31st. Somewhat bolstered by the vehicle husks brought in by the 144th. Reporting 25% Combat Readiness, but this number is likely exagerated, Command estimates the 31st's actual Readiness at 18%. Located in the TFHQ Reserves.
>>
- 145th Hellguard: Light Infantry regiment, originating from the volcanic Death World of Hellrock. Well-suited to harsh environments with poisonous atmospheres. Regiment is confirmed to have seen extensive action before, particularly during Golagros Fell's failed Black Crusade against the sector fifty years ago. Experience from the previous generation's membership has been passed onto the current one. The Hellguard acquitted themselves well in the fighting at Tertius Hive, despite having to detach part of their command staff to form a new planetary headquarters. Regimental Hero, Major Danielle Lightfoot was instrumental in the establishment of TFHQ, and was among Commissar Haas's greatest proponents. Reporting at 42% Combat Readiness, though they are plagued with some morale problems due to Haas's betrayal. Located on the front lines.
- 81st Brigwick Recon: Reconnaissance regiment rated as a combat unit, fully capable of engaging the enemy on their own terms and winning. The 81st fought bravely at Primaris Hive. Thanks to their superior communications equipment and experience, the Brigwick regiment's headquarters were able to broker a cease-fire with the populists, then pull our battered forces together for a break through the Chaos lines to Tertius Hive. Went dark at the end of the Primaris conflict, performing hit and run raids and engaging in asymetric warfare to buy time for the other Primaris regiments to withdraw. Reporting 75% Combat Readiness. Due to the general lack of free air power, the 81st are currently black, scouting the ashen wastes and are due to return to TFHQ in about 2 hours time.
>>
- 1st Drusian Crusaders: Regiment of line infantry that isn't even technically an Imperial Guard regiment, although it was founded and trained as a sort of private army by a Guard veteran. Regiment is noted for being confident in their abilities and fanatically-devoted to the Emperor. The Drusians, and regimental hero Sergeant Mattheys (the invasion force's top tank ace with 119 hostile vehicles and hundreds of infantry confirmed kills), not only fought at Tertius Hive but also detached their mobile battalion to spearhead the relief column to Primaris Hive. Reporting 38% Combat Readiness, heading back to TFHQ mostly unmolested.
- 144th Diech Infantry: Regimental training scores were habitually low due to lack of preparation prior to deployment on the Olenus Primaris campaign, and Commissariat reports indicated 'psychological weakness.' The 144th were assigned to Hive Secundus and only recently reappeared from that hellhole. Currently reporting only one living CO, Major Vicard Cicero, who is in critical condition. The rest of the 144th's officers went mad after the vile summonings backlash. Re-emererged with the populist governor in chains and 4 surrendered rebel regiments and their vehicles and equipment. Their long march to TFHQ decimated their own forces, as well as their captured soldiers and equipment. Reporting at 8% Combat Readiness and the vehicle elements of a Mechanized unit, though, should the Commissariat allow, the regiment is willing to accept any of the surrendered rebels who marched with them across the planet. Should this be allowed the unit reports 25% Combat Readiness and effectiveness as a Mechanized Unit. Located in the Reserves at TFHQ.
>>
- 958th Cadian Light Infantry: Originally sent to Secundus Hive, they recently reappeared, stuck in the same tunnels as the 49th Jungle Fighters. The two linked up and set off a nuke the 958th found, utterly obliterating Secundus hive and most of the tunnels. Led by Ssgt, they search for a way to the surface with 3.5% effectiveness.

The following units arrived after the conflict had begun, and have tried their best to render aid to their fellow man in the Name of the Emperor:
>>
- Narmenian 54th Strike Armour Regiment: Part of Task Force Gauntlet, which, after hearing of the plight of the Guardsmen, diverted to Olenus Primaris. Commanded by the now Acting Lord-Militant Linna, Ad-hoc Grand General of the campaign, they were dropped into the Tertius Hive Warzone just in the nick of time, and aided in the rally of the Imperial Guardmen. Currently reporting at 85% Combat Readiness and located at the TFHQ complex at Hive Tertius.
- Cadian 18th Armoured Regiment: Super-Heavy Armoured Cavalry, boosting of several Baneblades. Part of Task Force Gauntlet. While they have suffered severe logistics issues, they are now (finally) fully deployed. Reporting 100% Combat Readiness and loacated at the TFHQ.
- 1st and Only Heavy Snipers: Part of Task Force Gauntlet. The 1st and Only boast an impressive killcount among enemy heavy armour, included 3 Baneblades to date. They currently at TFHQ at 93% effectives.
- 287th Elysian Drop Troopers: The 287th Elysian arrived late to Olenus Primaris due to erratic activity in the Warp. Using their late arrival to their advantage, they deployed deep behind enemy lines. This regiment has the dubious honor of having rescued Commissar Haas before his betrayal. However, they believe they have redeemed themselves through the following events. Reporting 62% Combat Readiness and located on the front lines, preforming Close Air Support.
- The Mission Agustina: Adeptus Sororitas. Following their dramatic appeareance during the rescue of the 144th, this small detachment of the Order of the Fiery Heart, the various assets of the Mission Agustina have rallied behind the Guardsmen, bringing faith to all loyalists who lay eyes upon them. Though a tiny force by regimental standards, the Sisters are water for the thirsty here. Reporting 98% Combat Readiness, located at TFHQ
>>
The following units have either been destroyed, lost in the field, folded into other units due to casualties, or otherwise.

- 195th Cadian Armoured: Veteran Armoured regiment. Reports indicate that this unit was largely destroyed blunting the Chaos onslaught at Primaris Hive. Remnants have been absorbed by 1st Drusian Crusaders.
- 586th Cadian Light Armoured: Hunter-Killer regiment committed to Secundus Hive. Status unkown, presumed destroyed.
- Cadian 758th Mechanized Infantry: Drastically undersupplied during the intial campaign. Landed in support of operations at Secundus Hive. Status unknown, presummed destroyed. These boys were some of Cadia's finest, we'll all tilt an extra one back for them.
- Bredock 12th Light Infantry Regiment: Caught up in fighting Chaos berserkers, this inexperienced regiment was largely destroyed. Remnants have been distributed to other units.
- 3rd Sadettin Drop Troopers: Regiment is noted as being deliberately undersupplied to provide the more competent 75th Liongrad with needed equipment and food. Regiment consists of totally new recruits who passed basic training, but were given little opportunity to put that training to the test in a lower-priority campaign. Committed alongside 75th Liongrad in a combat drop on Primaris Hive and effectively destroyed in the fighting there. Remnants absorbed by 75th Liongrad.
>>
- 4th Murok Planetary Prison Armoured Regiment: Penal Legion consisting of white-collar criminals (largely Administratum adepts from Murok) that was drafted and then issued armour. Confirmed to have had serious morale problems and a lack of incentive to engage the enemy. Tanks have been divided up among other regiments, personnel distributed into headquarters and logistics. They're happy not to be fighting, and the Imperial Guard are glad to have their administrative expertise.
- 19th Balaster Penal Legion: The Skullfuckers - these guys were a Penal Legion with a combat rating and training scores on par with Cadian Shock Troopers. Favored by Commissar Haas before his betrayal. KIA. Daemons disguised themselves as this unit and caused mass chaos.
- Cadian 842nd, Traitor Legion: Headed by the now infamous Lukas Mastor, and his Lord Commissar Octavian, this unit which was on route to assist the Olenus Primaris forces, the summary execution of their commanding officer by Commissar Haas led to them turning traitor. Despite the confusion caused by Lukas Mastor, perhaps, he knew something the rest of us did not. Still, the 842nd is to be killed on sight.

Major Danielle Lightfoot contemplates the flask again. What if it's nothing? If it's nothing, I've exercised a prudent caution. That's what we have to do in these situations. Exercise due care in the service of the Emperor. And don't fixate on a single detail, either. TFT has plenty of other problems. She sends a brief message to General Linna:

"Lord Militant, with your permission I'd like to gather up some of the walking wounded to begin training conscripts on a regimental scale. We need to do more than just repple these guys in.

I'll also start a survey of the Hive's industrial capacity. With supplies so low and our tail in disarray, we've got to establish our own resources.

Maj. Lightfoot"

Hive Primaris. Once the foothold of the entire secessionist movement, it belongs to the Daemon Prince Haas'tur. Clouds gather ominously over the tainted spires, as hordes amass below in the streets, ready to the meet the gathering armies with glee. Those who were once known as the 842nd Cadian Shock Troopers Regiment have been, twisted, perverted, and irreversably corrupted. Their bodies host a thousand different mutations. Skin like scales, bulbous eyes, feathers protruding all over the body, foot long dual tongues, avian eyes, feline eyes, canine eyes, eyes of all sorts popping up over the skin.

The mutations wrought on these once good men had not only warped body, but also mind. Instead of taking away years of combat experience, Haas sought to contort it. The brains of the mutated Guardsmen are now hardwired to enjoy combat, as if it were a drug. The euphoria of killing their former allies brings nothing but sadistic joy to the Guardsmen. Among the ranks of the soldiers were civilians unlucky enough not to be claimed in Haas' ascension. In a few scattered number were Horrors of Tzeentch, and other miscellenous daemons of the warp. Around Primaris, reality had met warp. Already the land lie tainted with daemonic growth. Here, the daemons could be stabilized.

An army of thousands of mutants and daemons, all arrayed for the defense of Haas'tur's new fortress.
Coming slowly ever closer was the ad-hoc force of Guardsmen. Leading the way are the combined Basilisk batteries of all regiments, with the soaring Valkyries of the Elysian 287th. Behind them, an armoured wall made up primarily of the Drusian 1st Crusaders, but along with them are the armoured elements of all regiments still remaining. Behind that, is a seemingly endless wave of men, transports, and supplies. The coming battle will be one not to be soon forgotten...

The tracks of Thor's Prudence, laden with 312 tons of armor and guns, broke and flattened the ground as the Stormlord advanced near the head of the Imperial offensive. From the commander's chair, Markus Linna directed not only the battle plan, but his own tank crew.

"Target: Field Fortification, 2 o'clock. Engage with Vulcan."

"On the way."

There was a deep rumble from the heart of the tank, and the enemy position disintegrated under a stream of projectiles the size of a man.

"Target: APC, 9 o'clock. Engage with Port-side Las."

"One the way!"

A ear-spitting crack, and the vehicle was sundered in a beam of burning light.

"All formations, continue the advance. Offensive reserve, deploy and move the exploit the left flank."

- Markus Linna, Lord Militant, Olenus Primaris

The days he'd lived and loved and laughed kept running through his mind,
He thought about the girl back home, the one he'd left behind;
He thought about the medicae, and wondered what they'd find,
He ain't gonna jump no more.

Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
With your lasgun in your right hand as you're falling through the sky.
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
And he ain't gonna jump no more...

The Valkyrie flew by, missiles pouring down on to the positions below. Harklan put on the Grav-Chute, following the lead of the rest of his Command Team. The Valkyries had been flying CAS missions all night and the missiles had finally run dry. So it was time to do the only thing they could- send in the men. He grabbed the lascarbine, the bullpup feeling familiar to his hands. This thing had seen endless combat, and here it was, going in again. He grinned, fixing the breather mask to his face. The doors of the Valkyrie slid open, the air buffeting the command squad. The rest of the Valkyries, he could see, were doing the same. Elite "Helljumper" Stormtroopers had already hit the ground and were taking out key enemy targets. The rest of the unit would move up and and secure a beachhead for the rest of the Task Force.

>This is Harklan, Elysians are hitting the ground, over.

He turned to his command squad. Four Helljumpers, a Squid from the Nay and a Vox-Caster. These were the men he was entrusting with his live. Wouldn't have it any other way. "Alright boys, feet first to hell!"he said, jumping out.
>>
He hit the ground, the sound was "SPLAT", his blood went spurting high;
His comrades, they were heard to say "A hell of a way to die!"
He lay there, rolling around in the welter of his gore,
He ain't gonna jump no more.

Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
With your lasgun in your right hand as you're falling through the sky.
Gory, gory, what a hell of a way to die,
And he ain't gonna jump no more.

Rolling out of the command Chimera was a massive figure who's armour was shrouded in deep blue, with strands of gold enveloping him. A set of horrific claws sprouted out from his hands, power swords each one. The task had been done. The simplistic killing machine had completed it's task. Such an unimportant figure, it pondered. Why did he warrant the wrath of a Warp Talon? It didn't matter. Haas had his work done, and now the assassin could return to whence it came. It jumped into the air, disappearing in a crackle of purplish-orange energy.

Inside the armoured transport however, Josef Loschmidt's body laid cold and silent. His organs were strewn about the floor, the bodies of his subordinates joining the mess on the floor. The vox meanwhile hissed with the voices of many fellow officers trying to hail the Colonel, to figure out what happened. It is in this that Haas struck a deadly blow to the resolve of the Kilbeck forces. The 47th was nearly all but destroyed in the initial fighting. Daemons appeared out of nowhere, bringing immediate death to their surroundings. They seemed to be focusing on the force that posed the greatest threat. The regiment designed for siege warfare.

The 48th was able to fair better. Their new vigor was not destroyed, and they fought onwards, with the Hellguard and Elysians. They were at the footsteps to Hive Primaris. How could they come this far, just to give up?

One out of thirty Kilbeck soldiers would survive this fight, a sacrifice they gladly accepted.

Right, Harklan here. Good news is that we've fallen back to a safe location Bad news is that we were forced to advance right into the fucking hive. The wall of metal surges forth, barking fire from their mouths as they proceed ever closer to the bastion of Haas the Arch-Traitor of Olenus Primaris. Daemon engine fiends roar, crashing into the armoured ranks of the Imperial Guard, ripping man and machine alike in a glorious frenzy of death. Lord Militant Linna's Stormblade is possibly the only thing keeping the advance moving forward, else it would fall into a horrid stalemate. Their foes are not without their own armour however...

Leman Russ Tanks, whos' insides have become one with the daemonic belch their warpfire, scorching all in their path. The Drusian Crusades stand tall in this mayhem, driving a spearpoint into the depths of the tainted hive. The walls of the spires have grown mouths, tongues, and eyes. Each one speaking out in a myraid of different languages to confuse and mislead the Guardsmen. Still, the Imperial Guard press onwards, determined to make a difference. But the Black Templars must be remembered, for if they did not stop the assault of Possessed Traitor Marines, the Imperial Guard's flanks would collapse from the ravenous onslaught.

Lenz awoke, his new body feeling surprisingly warm. He'd figure it'd be, cold. The augmentation work was superb, the finest craftmanship used to repair his body. The Tech-Priest had waited exactly 17 hours, 34 minutes, and 24 seconds for him awaken. He was delighted to see the Major stir to consciousness. He said to him, his voice still up-beat and happy, "Helloooooh there Seigfried! I'm glad to see you are now with us living. Your regiment is currently assaulting Hive Primaris."

That made Lenz rise up, "What?"

"Yes," The Tech Adept man replied, "Off to fight their war. I'm sure they'll be fine. Oh, someone left you something."

He handed him a large cask of amasec. "The Colonel had one of his lackies bring it up for you. He said keep a hold of it till the batle is over, and you both will drink it at the celebration over the victory of Hive Primaris. That's what the lacky said the Colonel intended, anyways."

Lenz placed the amasec down on a table close to him. He didn't know what to say.
>>
The Daemon Prince Haas'tur rose from his Throne built out of the melted spires of the nobility. He roars aloud, throwing a ball of warp flame into a tank column reducing it to mere slag. "Come Guardsmen, come and see the glory of Haas'tur!" Another set of tanks took up the space left by their fallen brothers, this time with the Stormblade leading the way. "Ah, it's a General who fancies themself a Lord Militant. Come, come so I may humble you!"

Outside the Hive Primaris, the infantry of combined forces fought side by side, trying to hold off the worst of the daemon onslaught to allow their armour just one shot at bringing down Haas.
>>
At one particular instance of the battle, a rag-tag group of Guard soldiers, consisting of Elysians, Drusians, Hellguard, Diech, and Cadians, all totalling some 600 with various heavy weapons and fortifications, found themselves in Hab-Block 42-A, now known as "The Shrieking Corridor" (called such for the banshee-like echoes shots and explosions and screams of dying made). This mixed group was led by a Captain Gunther Brock, of the 47th Kilbeck. This hab-block formation became a choke-point for any to go through, and the small group used it to their advantage. Over the course of sixteen days and nights, the Guard held the line against the hordes of mutated renegades. Though they were loathe to kill their own, they recognized the danger these lost souls posed would they have broken through. Yet Captain Brock's men held the line.
On the seventeenth day, reinforcements arrived. They alleviated twelve survivors. Sergeant Roderno told them the message passed on by the late Captain: "We held the line."
>>
The daemon lunged forward, attempting to strike straight into the Stormblade. It had been tiring, fighting on and on with his armoured foes. For every time he brought down a tank, they would score so many hits across his hide. He made one last attempt to bring an end to his. Racing forward, Haas'tur brought down his staff to crush Linna's Stormblade, but in a moment of quick thinking, the main gun fired directly into the Daemon Prince.

Haas was dead. After weeks of intense fighting, he was dead. He had been felled by one last final blow from the volcano cannon, sending him back the warp. Over time, his taint, his corruption, began to erode away almost as fast as it had arrived. The mutant hordes collapsed from organ failure and internal bleeding. After all this time fighting, the battle was over, Olenus Primaris, had been won. But there was still a question left that had not yet been answered, what of the commanders of the various forces? What of Marshal Sarusmund and his Black Templars? What of Major Lenz, who did not partake in the fighting at all? What of Captain Grant and his Rough Riders? And what of Major Danielle, closest to the Arch-Traitor out of everyone who had survived?

>The 287th survived, but only just. Relieved at the last second with the destruction of Haas'tur, they were left with roughly a single squad of Helljumpers, three Valkyries and many, many wounded. The unit returned to Elysia, battered, but alive. The 287th restocked it's ranks and filled them with new, fresh troops. They were last seen at the 13th Black Crusade, chasing a rogue fleet into the Warp.

>Harklan himself was crippled by the bolt round he took to the leg. He survived, becoming a rather well-known tactician. Most likely called it quits.

Their original plans were so messed up that they had little chance to gain anything in this other than wiping out some Guard regiments, and that'd be a waste of resources. Besides, two Hives were totally destroyed and one was left. Too much to lose and too little to gain. They simply pulled out.

>She makes an effort to straighten up, adjusting her BDU as she composes herself. With a light clearing of her throat, Khlarren looks like a colonel again.

Good to see you, Major Lenz. If only circumstances were better...

>There's a bit of a catch in her voice which she beats down.

We... Found his command Chimera in the prelimary engagement area of Kilbecks' salient into the hive. Somehow, the heretics broke through the screen he and Captain Grant set up. Before you go throw blame around, after-action reports show that even the 19th were taken unawares, in spite of the very best of precautions set up by your CO.

Whatever it was... It ripped him and his retinue apart...

I'm sorry, Major. You're ranking officer of the Kilbeck now.

"No."

He stated flatly, denying the honor, taking the tags greedly from Ingred's hands. He stared deeply into them, trying desperately to gain some unforeseen knowledge from them. Yet he could draw up none. The emptiness in his heart could not be filled so easily. And so he spoke back, finally, explaining fully this time.

"You lost a lot of officers yourself. The Kilbeck forces are below half strength, and unable to continue fighting under their own numbers. There are many other regiments that are the same as mine. Too weak to fight alone anymore. Amalgamation is required ma'am. We need to combine the 15th Marfos, both Kilbeck regiments, the 958th Cadian, 31st Thunderfall, and the 49th Catachan. The Olenus 1st Almalgated has a certain ring to it doesn't it?"

Routa clambered up from the ruins of the hive. There were dead and dying men everywhere, some of them his own, most of them not. A few Catachan tunnelsrats had wandered to him during the heat of battle and brought a heavy flamer with them. That had probably saved them all at the end; it had proved itself invaluable in burning off the seemingly limitless hordes of mutilated cultists that had tried to swarm them.

"Sergeant..." The man had lost three fingers and his ear to a two-headed man-bird-hybrid. His grin, however, was still there.

"Cap'n. How's the hand?" Routa was looking worse than ever. The right side of his face was hanging loose, the stitches on his cheek had torn and his bloody teeth were grinning from th tear. The left side was burnt and blistered from the flash of the nuke he'd set of earlier. His left eye was gone, it had been burned too bad and had fallen out of it's socket.

"Not as bad as you face. How are your men?" Routa licked his exposed molars. The Catachan captain watched with mild curiosity as Routa's tongue squirmed in his exposed mouth.

"I've got one left."

"We should probably get out of here. I've got a working flash, let's ask Colonel Harklan for a pickup, shall we?"

Routa lights a bloodstained Iho-stick. "Yeah, let's do that.

>Routa spent months in medicau, getting augmentations implanted in him. His surviving soldier, Eve, was also heavily injured. They were both recruited by a Lord Inquisitor and shuttled offworld, rumouredly for training in the Temple Callidus. That's probably a myth, but several sightings of a pair of heavy snipers with brass masks accompanying an inquisitor could support that claim. Out of a hole in the ground (there seemed to be a forest of them sinking down across the killing grounds), staggered two dozen Kasrkin. Each trooper's carapace armor dangled off his body raggedly, held only by its straps. Sergeant Murphee felt very much the same as his ruined gear; the tunnel-fighting had been horrific even by Cadian standards. But he couldn't rest yet. He couldn't show his weakness while his men were still with him, dragging themselves slowly back to anywhere except those throne-damned slaughter-pits.

"Fuck daemons, fuck traitors, fuck the brass, fuck the flyboys and fuckedy-fuckin'-fuck being underground," Trooper Bracken's words were heavy with exhaustion.

"Well-said." Murphee replied.

The Cadians sent up a hollow "Oorah..."

Murphee did not asked himself if the ends justified the means. Of course they did. He had never doubted that in all his forty one years. But that knowledge didn't bring back the dead, didn't undo the injuries of the maimed, didn't bring any happiness in victory. There was only the grim acknowledgement of being the better butchers. Already Murphee felt tears welling up, but he forced them back down with iron will. So much death, and yet he still lived. His time to cross the Styx and face the souls of the men he'd let down wasn't here. He gave thanks and then recited his own personal litany;
Fuck killing.
Fuck dying.
Fuck war.

>The 958th Cadian, by this time reduced to barely platoon size, is retired. A lengthy investigation by the Commissariat concerning their Destruction of Sovereign Imperial Territory and Unauthorized Detonation of Imperial Munitions eventually finds them blameless. SSg. Murphee and his soldiers, on their request, are seconded to the the "muthefuckin'" 49th Catachans.
>As for Murphee himself...?
>...well, how does that old phrase go...?
>"Old soldiers never die, they just fade away."
>gory gory, what a hell of a way to go

(Yeah, I was scrolling through my pics and went "YES. THIS ONE." the second I saw it. So very coincidentally related, hah.)

These threads have inspired me to join my local PDF regiment... By which I mean find a group to play Only War.

>She reaches for her cup and throws the contents over her shoulder before offering it to Lenz.

Yes, the Olenus First Amalgamated... Not a name to shake the stars, but with a little work, we could have a regiment to be proud of. We'll have to pass it by Linna, tho'. Paperwork and all that. Thank you.

>She takes back her half-filled cup and raises it in a toast.

To new beginnings, I suppose.

Just did.

A thin, hollow smile forms on Lenz's lips.

"Old Kilbeck saying; With every ending, there is a beginning..."

Lenz of course, was less human that man now. He felt great aches in his chest, often. His new muscular structure in his legs was new, foreign, and felt wholly unnatural. Overtime he learned to come to grips with it, but he could never quite get the handle of his own power yet. He could crack granite floors, dent metal plating, and make Carapace Armour crack from a single precise kick. But the legs were bothersome, none of the less. His fingers...were actually pretty nice. They reacted faster than the old ones, and were much more effective than the one's his mother gave him.

His shoulder was covered in vat-grown flesh, covering up the chrome artificial skeleton which repaired his right portion of the body. Yet it felt, cold. Always cold. No matter how blistering hot he got, that metal just felt chilling. The vat-grown flesh was, unwelcomed as well, but acceptable. The fake lung inside his chest was solid, yet it allowed Lenz to breath much easier at times. The sub-dermal plating beneath his skin was a plus, though. He was armoured without wearing a thing. Larrik said he was, "My finest work yet!", yet Lenz hardly felt that way. His life was spent in awkwardness, a young man reduced to self-hatred and given the false admiration of a thousand veterans for a single, stupid act.

Well, at least he had a liver to ruin.

It's good to know that even an army made of pure JUST AS PLANNED just can't beat our good, old-fashioned Imperial killfuckery. Ave Imperator!
-Corporal-V.O. Vasbeck, 75th Hellguard
>Corporal Vasbeck was sentenced to summary execution immediately after this communication for the crime of "Being an Insufferable Twat!", which would, apparently, fall under the category Other in the Codex Imperialis.

Nope, Haas was awesome and I see no reason to be sorry.

During all this heretic bombing I bet you missed the Ork spores I planted at the bottom of have Primairus. I hope you dont destroy them or anything, I gave quite a many slaves to that Rogue Trader to acquire those. How many was it again? 50 or 100 kilos of spore. Oh wait! It was 200. My bad.

>Pic may help... but wont,

(I'd hate to beat a dead horse, but I looked at this again and realized I'd left a bit out. Take it or leave it.).

The Cadians murmured a hollow "Oorah..." To those who heard it, it seemed to then to be more like the benediction of a prayer than a warcry. And those who heard it never could forget, for they heard it again, in lonely moments and in their nightmares, for years to come. For how else could men who knew only war and violence pray for the dead, and for themselves; the dead-to-be.
