"For centuries, the civilized races of this world have known the ogres to be completely incapable of teamwork."

"This should come as no surprise. Nowhere in the written annals of history has there ever been a case where the ogres, working as a collective people (yet another impossibility), made any lasting alliances. Individuals and, more rarely, small groups have been seen working together with the savage, warmongering orcs and their debased kin; however, further studies have shown that the ogres were merely cajoled by shiny objects, food, or the promise of something to do. This is supported by reports of ogres wandering off in the midst of pitched battle, their short attention spans having already reached breaking point."

"Again assuming that the ogres are actually capable of collective action, no scholar of the civilized races has ever known an ogre to understand the merits of trade. Most have hypothesized that the phrase 'I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine' is a completely foreign concept to them, or that an ogre who is offered a trade would simply crush the offering party, eat him, and take everything for himself."

"Of course, some of the more... open-minded of us scholars have also put forth the theory that the only races that the ogres have encountered were just too advanced for them. And that the ogres might learn to get along with the foreign, barbaric races of the largely-uncharted Terra Incognita."

"As it is, however, the ogres are stuck us here in the Old World with the civilized races (or the other way around), so the only way that would happen would be if the ogres somehow traversed the Grand Ocean separating our two continents, whether by magic or by ships."

"... but that would just be silly."

>Still halfway through a turn...
>Settlement: 82 - GREAT!

Armed with the new knowledge of mining and the required tools, the ogres had a grand old time striking the earth and reaping a veritable bounty of stone, mysterious ores, and strangely light Featherstone. But then, why wouldn't they be enthusiastic? This is the first time they've done engaged in an activity not directly related to survival (like food-gathering, house-building, or... hat-making), and being so productive is an amazing feeling!

... of course, this leaves the ogres with one slight problem.

"Boss, wot're we gonna do with all these rocks?"

Boss Ogre ignores the question for the moment, staring up at the four piles of rocks in a mixture of horror and amazement. They'd gathered a fairly modest amount of Featherstone and mixed ores, whose respective piles only reached up to the ogres' bellies, but the haphazard pile of sandstone, made up of stones of all shapes and sizes, nearly rivals the Oasis Spring rock pillar in height.

Boss Ogre scratches his head. Perhaps they'd gotten a bit carried away. "... right," he rumbles, trying to project an air of confidence and general knowing-what-he's-doing-ness. "Let's just leave dis sandy stone outside da houses 'til we know what we're gonna do with 'em. Get to work, boys!"

Ogres being ogres, they don't stay serious for very long.

>>21112894
"Hey, look at wot I made!" crows an ogre. "Look at dis! I made a SUPER-big rock shanty! Let's put fings in it!" Ogres start hurling manure, leftover food, and extra rocks into the building, stopping only occasionally to throw things at each other.

"Dat's small time!" Another ogre starts hurling sandstone chunks into the oasis, inadvertently creating six pillars. "Look, dese fings make a HUGE splash, hur hur hur!" He finally throws an extra-long one, but it merely clonks onto pillars, much to his disappointment.

"..." Boss Ogre stares around the encampment, blinking at the serviceable storehouse and pier that suddenly popped up into existence around them. "I... yah, that... I guess dat works, too."

"Okay," the ogres yell, blissfully unaware of the value of their miraculous constructions. "Now let's knock it all down!"

"- WAT NO."

And then Boss Ogre had his hands full stopping the ogres from ruining everything ever.

>STATUS REPORT
Well, the ogres have really discovered a use for their newfound mining skills- the inside of the mysterious Oasis Springs cave is now a makeshift quarry, and it has begun divulging its secrets to the ogres! Though most of it seems to be sandstone, who knows what other miraculous things are waiting deeper down!

... granted, the ogres will need both time and somewhat better tools than stone pickaxes to dig much deeper, but hey, it's a definite start.

They've also found a use for all of that surplus rock. Now the ogres have one consolidated place for everything they find, reducing the odds of important things getting lost and/or stepped on! Perhaps more importantly, fish is MUCH more accessible for them now; being able to trawl the deeper waters has given them a lot more food. And, of course, more food means more ogres!

Of course, more ogres means more opportunity for trouble to brew. This much brawny testosterone (matched with ogre brains) means that something is bound to happen eventually, right?

There is also a worrying new development: bones have begun appearing around the settlement in the morning, after the ogres wake up. No one remembers seeing who left them, or can even identify the remains. When asked, the Scaratone workers hauling manure from Oasis Springs are just as confused as the ogres.

Only one thing is clear: the bones are arrayed so as to lead away from the settlement, further into the desert. Perhaps the ogres should investigate...

Two ogres sit on the edge of the Oasis Springs pool. One idly flicks pebbles and sand into the water, while the other chews with gusto on a piece of raw fish.

The rock-flicking ogre sighs, leaning back onto the sand and crossing his hands behind his head. "This is da life, huh?"

"Mmmgphpafjmunchsnarf," the other ogre replies, messily devouring entrails and organs and bone.

The other ogre nods in agreement. "Yah, you sure said it. -- hey, you hear how That Guy was talkin' about tryin' something new?"

"Mmshanrghfgh?"

"Nah, I don't know what it was, either. Reckon it won't turn out all dat-"

Both ogres break off their conversation, staring with interest as an ogre streaks by, screaming at the top of his lungs most probably because he is entirely engulfed by red-hot hungry flames. There's a splash and a sizzle as the burning ogre vaults into the oasis, the sound causing birds to take flight.

The two ogres go back to their respective activities.

"Reckon dat was him."

"Mmmphgrgsnarfchomp."

>Trail of Bones
Armed with crack-tus sticks, rocks, and whatever else they can get their hands on, Boss Ogre leads a small warband into the desert wastes, following the trail of bones so helpfully laid out for them.

Boss Ogre spits off to the side in distaste. He can't quite put his finger on it, but he has his misgivings about this entire thing. "If dey wanted to talk to us so bad," he mutters, " why don't dey just send someone to talk to us?"

"Who cares 'bout dat?" another ogre pipes up. "I just wanna know how he got da bones outta these guys' bodies without gettin' blood an' guts all over da place!"

"... yah, there's dat, too," Boss Ogre admits. Looks like he's not the only one worried, for once.

His misgivings only worsen when they reach the end of the trail. All those countless femurs, ribs, grinning skulls, and other unidentifiable bones scattered through the sands, and all of this...

"... just for a box!?" Boss Ogre exclaims. Sure enough, the end of the path leads right in front of a stone treasure chest, sitting smack-dab in the middle of the open sands, looking as innocent as can be. Boss Ogre commands the ogres to stand a good ways back from the box. "A'right, we's gonna get to the bottom of dis, so- yah, what is it?"

An ogre near the back puts his hand down. "... ain't we gonna open da box?"

Boss Ogre blinks. "Wot? But- dis is really weird, ain't it? Just a random, sus-pish- suspi- weirdo box outta nowhere? Dat's just strange, an' you wanna OPEN it?"

The ogres shuffle their feet, looking at the ground. "... all of dat just makes us wanna open it even more."

Boss Ogre massages the bridge of his nose.

"A'right," Boss Ogre grunts, shouldering his crack-tus stick. "Let's take a look-'round an' see if we can find who left dis here. A'right? A'right. GO!"

He takes a few steps off to the side- before whirling around and cuffing one of the ogres. "And NO openin' the box!"

"Yah, boss," the would-be perpetrator grumbles, rubbing his head.

The ogres split up, making good time as they comb the immediate area for any sort of clues. Of course, they're not quite experienced in either tracking, exploration, or being all that perceptive- ogres have never really had a need for any of that sneaky-like stuff, preferring to tackle any problem by brute force.

"Nothin' here," one ogre calls out, stepping on and erasing the sets of large, terrifying footprints that he didn't see.

"Nope, can't find nothin'," another one says, kicking aside a discarded rag of withered, sun-dried flesh and utterly failing to realize that it's out of place in the desert.

"Whoof," a third ogre groans. "It's real hot out here, I'm gonna take a break," he grumbles, sitting down on the snout of a dragon skull large enough to swallow him whole. "Good thing dis bench was here, otherwise I'd be roastin' my butt on da sand," he mutters, completely failing to notice the eldritch energies flowing into the dragon skull's eye-sockets as the fell beast wakes up from its slumber.

"... well, that worked better than I had expected," the dragon skull rumbles, before eating the unlucky ogre and rising up out of the sand, its cruelly sharpened claws crushing two more ogres as the animated skeleton levers itself up to all four limbs. "I guess I SHALL be adding you strange creatures' bones to my collection, after all. How joyous!"

Boss Ogre stares up at the dragon skeleton. "... don't suppose we could try dis again?" he hazards, as the remaining ogres- all six of them- quickly back away from the dragon, not sure whether to fight or flee.

The undead dragon tilts its massive, horned skull, considering this proposition. "On the whole, I think I much prefer this state of affairs."

"Huh. 'Kay then."

"Yah, actually, there's somethin' ya gotta know," Boss Ogre continues, remaining abnormally calm even despite his fellow ogres' almost palpable fear.

"What?" The dragon skeleton laughs, the derisive sound amplified and distorted by the echoes reverberating through its bones. "You are telling me that there is something I don't know? I, Ryagmos, the Immortal Dragon of the Scouring Wastes?"

"You just sez you don't know what kinda strange creatures we are, right?" Boss Ogre shoots back, completely silencing the dragon. The ogre ignores this and picks the wax from his ear with a pinky finger. "'Course, if you wanna eat us an' never know wot is wot..."

Ryagmos huffs. "There is nothing Ryagmos the Immortal Dragon does not know, but I shall entertain you, strange creature. Very well, what is it?"

Boss Ogre beckons him closer and, perhaps out of instinct or long years without seeing other sentient beings, the dragon skeleton leans down. "Ya see, da thing is... erm..."

And then Boss Ogre slams the dragon on the nose with his crack-tus stick. "FUCK YOUR SHIT, WE'RE DA OGRES, BOYEEEE!" he roars.

"I AM FEMALE, YOU INBRED INGRATES!" the dragon howls, clutching at its dented snout.

For a long, long second, the desert echoes with Boss Ogre's cry.

Get 'im...
Get 'im...
Get 'im...

And then the moment passes, and the ogres' eyes light up as an inner fire kindles within their hearts. All fear dissipates immediately; their boss gave them the order, and absolutely everything is right with the world.

"WE ARE OGRESSSS!!" As one, the ogres bellow their warcry and charge into battle, crack-tus sticks at the ready. Three ogres start whacking the dragon's shin(bone)s, while the others flank the undead beast, looking for some opening.

Boss Ogre stays where he's standing, bending down to pick up a rock and humming a jaunty tune himself, making up the words as he goes along. "o/` We are bigger, stronger, an' meaner than you'll ever be~... o/`"

"Gyaaaahahaha!!" With another derisive (borderline maniacal) laugh, the dragon sweeps its tail, sending ogres bowling left and right. Another contemptuous flick, and the flanking ogres who dashed in are also flung back, and the dragon's clawed foot pins one unfortunate ogre to the ground- strong enough to keep him pinned, but not strong enough to crush him.

Meanwhile, Boss Ogre licks a finger and tests the wind, turning this way and that. "o/` We is gonna wear your skull as a hat an' use your bones as toothpicks... o/`"

(Cont.)
>>
>>21114704
"You have some base cunning, you strange creatures, but it shall all be for naught! Behold!" The dragon rears up onto its hind legs, its forearms wreathed in incandescent eldritch fire. "The fruit of a thousand years of study! I shall raise you as revenants- no, as zombies! My eternal slaves!!"

"o/` We iz gonna stomp you, an' any other gits dat get in our way, flat... o/`" Boss Ogre changes his stance, one leg going straight up into the air while one arm is cocked back, his form good enough to make a professional baseball pitcher weep tears of amazement.

The undead dragon looks at Boss Ogre. "What on earth are you doing, you strange creature?"

"This."

(Cont.)
>>
>>21114715
And with that, Boss Ogre hurls the stone with all his might, the missile soaring right into the dragon skeleton's ribcage and coming out the other side, knocking out the one magically-enhanced vertebrae that just so happens to hold the entire undead creature together.

"W-What? No!!" The dragon screams, the magic that held it together dissipating and leaking into the air with an audible thunderclap. Already, entire bones start falling from the undead zombie's body, falling with loud THWOOMS and kicking up sand; in seconds, the dragon is naught but a ribcage, quickly unraveling spine, and a skull, its limbs scattered around it. "How did you know that that one magically enhanced vertebrae was the keystone to my entire undead existence? How!?"

"Dunno. But dat was for my boys." Boss Ogre strolls over easily, tapping his crack-tus stick against one hand, and he stands next to the skull, glaring down at it. The other ogres join him, grinning. Boss Ogre nods to them.

"... gentlemen."

And as one- "WAAAAAARRRGGHH!!"- they all start raining down blows upon the prone skull, reducing it to powder within seconds.

There's a beat as they stare down at the remains of Ryagmos.

"Boss?"

"Yah?"

"... can we open da box now, boss?"

"Yah, boys. Yah, we can."

>STATUS REPORT!
The ogres have finally- finally!- discovered the secret of fire, and they really really liked it! Hell, they liked it even more once they figured out how to move around without lighting everything in the immediate area (i.e. other ogres) on fire. Sure, the CURRENT results may be modest- all they really have right now is a small fire burning in the middle of their settlement at night.

However... though they don't know it yet, an entire world of opportunity has opened up for the ogres.

Perhaps more surprising than the discovery of fire was the discovery of a gigantic skeletal hellbeast that tried to lure the ogres to their doom! Boss Ogre wasn't about to have any of that, though, and he personally ended the long and illustrious career of Ryagmos, the Immortal Dragon of the Scouring Wastes. For that, they gained a great many things, like... dragon bones. An awful lot of dragon bones. Sans skull, of course.

They also opened the treasure box! And contained inside was a great many... strange papery things, bound together into books. It's really kind of a pity that ogres can't read, but hey, it's a good thing that they have friends who CAN, if the ogres so choose.

Speaking of which, the ogres DO have an awful lot of things that need appraising- the unidentified metal ores, the howling flying creature bothering them a few nights ago, and now these books and the dragon's bones. Perhaps a visit to the Scaratones would be in order?

>Tech: 66 - DOUBLES - STUPID LUCKY

Perhaps one day, in the near future, the ogres will finally embark upon the technological paths that will allow them to harness the power of fire for other means. Maybe some ogre will accidentally drop food into a fire, and cooking will be born. Or maybe some ogre will somehow realize that subjecting certain rocks to high temperatures will lead to some exciting new things to play with!

Today, however, is not that day.

On the outskirts of Oasis Springs, the worker Scaratones' overseer scribbles on a sheet of papyrus, balancing it on a nearby rock as he goes down his checklist. "Okay-okay, brute-warriors' leavings are on target for this trip. Unloaded many-many fungi, picks... all set, yes-yes. Time to-"

"You there! In the name of the Imperial Queen! Wait!!"

The overseer looks up in confusion, watching as the scout Scaratone runs toward him. "What? You bring news from her Imperial Majesty?"

"Yes-yes! Overseer, there has been a grave mistake!" the scout chitters nervously, wringing his hands together. "A mix-up in the last shipment of picks, there has been! One pick was mistakenly taken from the wizard caste! An experiment! THAT experiment!"

The overseer's blood runs cold. "But- the brute-warriors, they just took that pick into their mines!"

The two Scaratones look at each other for a moment before taking off for the underground cave at a dead run.

(Cont.)

>>21115482
A few yards away, the smaller ogre hefts his shiny new pick. These newfangled picks that the beetle-men were giving them are REALLY nice- why, this one weighs a lot less than those older stone picks! Still, he wishes that underground river wasn't so loud.

Blissfully unaware of the two incoming Scaratones screaming at him, the smaller ogre swings his pick into an exposed vein of Featherstone, before staring as the pick begins to glow. That's funny, now veins of glowing light are extending through the cavern, almost as if ALL of the Featherstone running-

A few miles away, a vulture perches on the skull of some unfortunate creature, pecking at the sand. It looks up with interest as the ground suddenly shudders slightly- and then takes off in a panic when it begins RUMBLING. Loud cracks and more than a few screams rend the air as Oasis Spring's rock pillar lists hard to the right, and then to the left, and then to the right, and then to the left, and-

- then it proceeds to rip itself out of the ground entirely, carrying a sizable chunk of the desert and underlying rock layers, the underground cave, and the entire ogre settlement with it. Once in the air, the now-floating oasis drifts lazily over the desert, remaining a few yards above the ground.

The smaller ogre, having left the cave, glances over the edge of the now-island, his pick over his shoulder.

"... oooh, so THAT'S how Featherstone works."

An ogre scrunches up his face, looking around. "I lost my hat," he says to no one in particular, almost as if he's talking to an invisible audience. "I want it back."

The ogre approaches Boss Ogre, who's busy talking to a worker Scaratone. "Have you seen my hat, boss?"

"Nah, I haven't seen your hat."

"Okay. Thank you anyway," the ogre says, approaching the worker Scaratone. "Have you seen my hat, little beetle-man?"

"No-no, I have not seen your hat, brute-warrior."

"Okay. Thank you anyway." The ogre walks over to yet another ogre, one who's wearing a spiffy rock hat with a dead snake coiled around it. "Have you seen my hat?"

"No! Why are you askin' me?" the hat-wearing ogre retorts, looking around shiftily. "I haven't seen it. I haven't seen any hats anywhere. I wouldn't take no hat of yours. Don't ask me any more questions or I'll krump ya."

"Okay. Thank you anyway."

Later that afternoon, the ogre sits in his rock shanty. "Nobody has seen my hat. What if I never see it again? What if nobody ever finds it?" He sniffs. "My poor hat. I miss it so much."

The Scaratone overseer trundles by, but he stops and lowers his checklist. "What's the matter, brute-warrior?"

"I have lost my hat. An' nobody has seen it."

>ONE HOUR LATER

Boss Ogre, along with most of the settlement, stares down at the body in the storehouse. There's an ogre who looks quite dead lying facedown in his own blood, with a bloody rock next to his head. Next to him is an ogre in a spiffy rock hat with a dead snake coiled around it, and he's looking down at the prone ogre in horror.

Boss Ogre is the first to break the silence. "... a'right, wot the hell happened here?"

"It was an accident, boss!" the hat-wearing ogre wails, holding his hat down on his head protectively. "I was only meanin' to krump him a little bit for takin' my hat!"

Boss Ogre prods the body with a toe. Normally, ogres DO settle their disputes with duels and agreed-upon krumpings, but this... "But you hit 'im from behind. That ain't proper at all."

"I was mad, boss! He took my hat and told me he didn't take my hat when I asked him!!"

"But you killed him for a hat!" Another ogre yells out.

"Yeah, I guess you kind of did kill him," Boss Ogre says evenly.

"Yeah! He killed me!" says the dead ogre, sitting up and glaring at the hat-wearing ogre indignantly. "... wot?" he adds, as everyone else stares at him.

... Boss Ogre massages the bridge of his nose. Krumpin' someone from behind is wrong. Stealin' someone's things is wrong. And he's the boss, so he's gotta figure out what to do with the two of them in this situation...

[ ] Stealin' is wrong, sure, but krumpin' someone from behind is super bad. Punish the krumper only!

Well they're both in the wrong.
That hat-stealling Ogre for stealing the hat in the first place, and the Killer-Ogre for krumping him from behind over a hat.

I would suggest that if anyone does anything wrong, And ever body acknowledges this, then the sort it out with a straight, fists-out fight, with no tricks or weapons.

If its something serious, like stealing or murder and they Ogres can't settle it, then they come an talk to the boss, and he will decide who does what, and who Krumps who.

"... a'right. Now, da way I see it..." Boss Ogre says, crossing his muscled arms and giving his best I'm Da Boss Look at the two wrongdoers. "Stealin' is bad, but krumpin' from behind is like... it's SUPER bad."

He looks between all the ogres. "I mean, you don't wanna be walkin' along some day, an' BAM! Suddenly, ya get krumped in da back of da head! Dat kinda threat, you'll be scared o' walkin' outta your home an' gettin' krumped dat you might go wacko an' krump everyone first!"

The ogres nod amongst themselves, grumbling under their breath to each other- but most of it sounds approving, at least. Boss Ogre takes a breath. "So here's wot we're gonna do. You." He points at the thief. "You're makin' hat frames for everyone, an' especially for all of da ogres who might be comin' here from elsewhere, 'til I say you can stop."

"An' you," he adds, pointing at the hat-wearing stealth-krumper. "You're doin' da same, but for longer! An' THEN you're gonna help da beetle-men shovel ogre poop! You best feel lucky I ain't for krumpin' left an' right," he grunts as an afterthought.

Boss Ogre starts walking out of the building- but then he pauses and turns back. "From now on, if any ogre has a problem with another ogre, dey krump at each other da proper way! If dat don't work, you take it to me! Got it?"

"Yah, boss," comes the slightly heartened reply. Boss knows best, after all!

Actually, yours could work better. I was just going for a later corruption of 'Lots of Ogres' as the place name. 'Ogre place' could work as well.

For the name, I suggest we go with something simple like Boss or Boss Skullbasha. (I still hold hope for the rare, magical two headed Ogre to be born and called 'Angronn StoneBreaker')

He could be 'Boss' because thats what all the other Ogres call him.
Or he could be 'Boss SkullBasha' because he has A)punched out a rampaging mutant Ogre in one punch also, what has happened to the mutant Ogres, have the successfully returned to Ogre 'society' or not? and B) smashed a Dragon Liches Skull to pieces have we told the bugmen about this? I'm sure they'd be interested to know. Maybe we'd get a reward for it!

>EMERGENCY EVENT
>PRESENT DAY, PRESENT TIME
Boss Bawss stares over the edge of the now-floating Ogir Place, joined by the rest of the ogres and the few Scaratones who were in Place at the time. (Two of the beetle-men seem to be having conniptions and/or rocking slowly back and forth while sitting in the sand, but Boss Bawss ignores them). Absolutely NO one dares to move- even the stupider ogres know when gravity's going completely bonkers, especially when said gravitational forces are directly exerted on/near/towards the ogres.

Almost immediately, fear and disquiet ripple through the massed ogres, and muttering can soon be heard as the ogres start talking amongst themselves ("Wot're we gonna do?" "Wot the hell happened?" "Why're we flying?" "I HAVE TO PEEEEE").

And then Boss Bawss Fistboss crosses his arms, sits down, and looks thoughtfully up at the sky.

"I know dat pose!" the pick-wielding smaller ogre yells out, breaking the confused silence. "Dat's Boss's thinkin' pose, it is! He'll figure out a way to- to figure somethin' out!"

As the ogres take heart from this statement, Boss Bawss decides that now would be a bad time to tell them that he's sort of terrified of heights.

(Cont.)
>>
>>21116846
Instead, he clears his throat. "A'right. I don't care wot happened, it's probably magic, we can care about dat later. Wot we gotta do now, is... we gotta make some kinda way to get down to da ground." He looks out at the assembled ogres. "Anyone got any bright ideas?"

Immediately, one random ogre pipes up. "We can jump! An' then we can just jump back up! ... oh wait, we can't jump dat high."

A slightly smarter ogre snaps his fingers. "Dig a hole out from da cave, THEN jump! 'Cause da bottom of Place is so much closer to da ground, see?"

"WEEBLE WORPLE," crows a mutant, the veins standing out on his neck.

"Build things that'll help you walk up an' down, an' build a heavier thing to keep Place from movin' around unless we lift it up!"

"Park da floating Place onto a hill for now, an' drive it away again later!"

Boss Bawss turns to stare at the smaller ogre. "... you can DO dat?"

The smaller ogre shrugs. "Don't see why not, boss. I kinda feeeel how to do dis fing in my gizzard, see?"

Boss Bawss looks up into the sky again. Decisions, decisions...

[ ] Try to dig out an exit from the underground cave to (a little above) ground level first.
[ ] Try to build a stone staircase first.
[ ] Try to build an anchor first.
[ ] Let the smaller ogre try to park it into a hill.
[ ] ALL OF THE ABOVE GO GO GO.

Can we lower the Bugmen down to the ground with so leaves or rope or something, and then get them to come back as quick as possible with some rope to anchor us to the ground?

If not, I think we should try carving out some stone steps to the ground. We're only a few feet from the ground as it is, so if we carve out some steps/handholds we can get up and down from the solid ground.

Also, if we do manage to get back to the earth, we can go through the crater we left and see if there are anymore shiny rocks or anything down there.

Build an anchor! We got fishies and we got water, what else could we possibly need?

"All of it," Boss Bawss says.

Everyone stares. "... all of it?"

"ALL. OF. IT," Boss Bawss repeats firmly, standing up and using his battered crack-tus stick as a cane. "You lot, go an' start diggin'! You, you, an' you, you're buildin' dat thing dat lets you walk up an' down! You lot make a heavy fing, an'... you!"

The smaller ogre perks up? "Yah, boss?"

"Park this thing on da nearest place without any people!" Boss Bawss barks out. "An' make it snappy!"

The smaller ogre grins like a loon, rubbing his hands together. "Aye, boss!"

As Ogir Place's inhabitants started working their asses off, Boss Bawss squints off into the distance...

>Staring into the distance: 42 - Adequate!
They don't really seem to be drifting towards anything terrifying- it's mostly sand, sand, and more sand. However, there IS the hazy outline of something tall and spindly in the distance, and... are those dots on the sand out there?

"Pray to the Imperial Queen that we don't crash-bang into the Tower of-" one Scaratone worker mutters darkly before he's silenced by the overseer.

>>21117434
A few hours later, the ogres huddle back up on the shores of the oasis to discuss their results. Two groups have lugged things with them, looking inordinately pleased, while some of the other ogres are shuffling their feet and looking down at the ground.

Boss Bawss sighs. He really doesn't need to ask, but... "So? How's it goin'?"

The group in charge of digging an exit shuffles their feet some more. "... it didn't work, boss," an ogre says mournfully. "Our picks still ain't strong enough to break through all da way down. We had to make an exit halfway up da island."

Boss Bawss shrugs. He'd expected something like that, really, but it was worth a shot. "Don't worry, boys, you did good. Walky-thing team?"

"We made most of it outta some of da Featherstone we found lyin' around, an' we tinkered with it, an' we got this!" This group of ogres unveil what appears to be the bastard child of a staircase and a retractable walkway. "We call it da SUPER-DUPER walky thing!!"

Boss Bawss nods. Now THAT'S more like it. "Not bad, boys! How 'bout you?"

These ogres heft a giant boulder filed into a point at one end. "We chained a lotta small rocks to a really, really big one! Like, an anchor thing!"

Boss Bawss blinks. "How'd you make 'em stick together?"

"Hell if we know!" the ogres say proudly.

Boss Bawss nods, not having expected any other answer.

He then turns to the last remaining ogre, who's still grinning madly. "How 'bout you? Ya learn how to move dis thing around?"

"Yah, boss!"

"An' are we all set to land?"

"Nah, boss, I only actually learned how to make this thing grow arms and legs," the smaller ogre says, as if this was the absolute best possible outcome that could have happened. "See, I felt dis funny thing in my gizzard, so I just pushed an' shoved an' boom!"

Boss Bawss opens his mouth. Then he closes his mouth, before turning to look over the edge, realizing that the island had indeed come to a full stop.

... and yes, there are indeed what appear to be giant, sandstone brick golem legs made out of rock growing out from beneath the island, standing on the desert sand. On the sides, there are also arms made of the same material just sticking out from the island's rock layers.

Boss Bawss looks back to the smaller ogre, at a loss for words for a few moments. "... guess dat's close enough," he eventually manages.

>Ogir Place has grown appropriately-scaled golem legs and arms!

>STATUS REPORT
... where to even begin?

First and foremost, the ogres have gained their very own system of justice! ... but at this point, that is the less important of the new developments.

Not only is Ogir Place now a floating continent capable of moving under its own power (thanks to the wonders of Featherstone and the strange, strange power of the Scaratones' experimental magics, but it now has completely usable... limbs. Limbs made from rock, growing out of the island as if it was the most natural thing ever.

Perhaps thankfully, the limbs retracted back in after an hour or so had passed, leaving the island anchored to the ground with the ogres' new tools. The smaller ogre reassures Boss Bawss that he can probably maybe kind of resummon the limbs if need be! Because seriously, you never know when you might need an island-sized krumpin' to happen.

... don't ask. It's ogres.

Regardless, Ogir Place's new mobility means that it is now in a markedly different position than it was before, and also that there is some new exploration to be done- of the settlement's underground cavern, of the crater left behind by Ogir Place's amazing ascent into the sky, and, of course, of their new surroundings. What to do, what to do...

The Scaratones are more than slightly agitated by pretty much all of these new developments, and they have sent another envoy, this one looking even more haggard than the last. The Imperial Queen herself wants to speak to the ogres, preferably as soon as possible please please please holy shit do we have things to talk about...

This is good, because the ogres still have some appraisals they probably need!

And as a final, rather morbid note... that one missing ogre is still missing. It's been a long time, even taking the ogres' lack of any sense of direction into account. Perhaps it's time to look for him... assuming we have time.

>Settlement: 38 - Not So Good...

Boss Bawss stands on the shores of the oasis, looking out over the ramshackle rock shanties dotting the land around him- with each one of them precariously balanced on the very top of their now-floating island.

He heaves a great sigh. They've already had some unfortunate incidents with incautious ogres tumbling off the side of Ogir Place, and while none of them were really HURT, Bawss figures that it's only a matter of time before something REALLY bad happens. Or if they have to make Ogir Place fly REALLY fast, what'll happen to the rock shanties up top...?

Honestly, all this thinking is making his brain hurt. First things first-

"Boss! Hey, boss!! What do you want us to do with all dis extra sandy stone lyin' around?"

Boss Bawss groans, rubbing at his aching temples. "C'mon, man, I'm tryin' to FINK here! Look, just- we got loads of extra sandy stone all over da place from all dis flyin', so just go do whatever with da rocks, 'kay?"

"'Kay, boss!" the ogres chorus, cheerfully lumbering off to go do some heavy lifting.

>Two Hours Later:

"... why," Boss Bawss deadpans, staring at the tall, randomly-sized stones stuck haphazardly into the ground, all along the edge of the floating island.

The ogres shrug. "Dunno, boss, seems like it'd be real convenient. No more runnin' to the storehouse for sandy stone! Just come over here an' pluck it out from the ground!"

"... near the edge of Ogir Place, makin' it so that the ogre who picks out a rock might end up fallin' off da edge?"

The ogres turn to look at the stones again. "Guess we could always stick more stones in between the edges?" one hazards.

Boss Bawss shrugs. "Not like it'd hurt any, yah? Look, you just go get more of 'em extra stones, I gotta go talk to da beetle-men 'bout dat fraggin' diplomancing visit..."

With that, he stalks off, massaging his temples and muttering about how the hell he's going to stop ogres from walking off the edge, and the ogres get to work.

>Ogir's Place now has Primitive Palisade! It's not strong, but it'll do for a visual Don't Walk Off The Edge deterrent!

When the ogres hit a lull like they did last thread, I'll do my best to throw in some more internal Quest/Event things!
