Good evening /tg/! It's Thursday, so you know the drill by now! It's time for the official Red White and Britfag's Civilization Questâ„¢! Accept no substitutes!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21057999/

The full archives are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

Also! It's time for another Q&A session! No, this is NOT just a ploy to buy myself time to eat dinner! No sir; I'm not that irresponsible with timing! Perish the thought! So hands up if you're ready to go and feel free to ask anything about the mechanics or the fluff that's confused you at all! Anything at all! The greatest mistakes and blunders are often formed by mis-understanding something, so if there's anything you're unsure about, I'll be happy to provide clarification.
>>
hello britfag
>>
Awesome, managed to get here relatively early.
>>
>>21083964
Here, I'm here!
>>
Here, here!
>>
>>21083964

I guess I'll ask one to get things moving.

Now that we're on out way to 30 threads in this civilization, I've got to ask how well you're managing to maintain all of the information. You know, fluff, mechanics and general information?

Oh shizzle, another thought, I know before you said that using a hero unit to perform tasks can increase the likelihood of a successful outcome so I was wondering how much more successful the use of a God would be? For example, what percentage would Hrunti's priest make us more likely to come across useful materials out in the wilds while scouting? And if it isn't a percentage, how would you calculate that?
>>
>>21084284
For maintaining all the mechanics, I have a spreadsheet that helps me out. The main headache is keeping track of population levels and the season. You may have noticed that sometimes, a season will run rather long. That's simply my fault, due to the tribe not having a calendar system yet and thus, I have to describe the season, rather than simply changing a numerical value. Heroes... I'm ashamed to admit it, but I have to keep referring back to past threads to keep track of them!
> Would like to take this moment to point out STILL, no-one has described what any of the heroes look like. Backgrounds are great, but are we all even agreed what Trym, Rina, Gerain or any of the others look like?

I'm not sure what you mean by 'using a god'. Named priests are the same as any other heroes. Hrunti's priest, for instance, would help hunting and scouting endeavours... But not all the time, due to the nature of the god he serves. Other heroes may have other applications, certain types may be better at certain jobs, etc. etc. The main 'mechanic' that measures the effect however is simply a mix of 'rule of cool' and being realistic. I know that's haphazard, but still, hasn't it worked until now?

I imagine Trym either as a black maned built tough guy, or the ugliest motherfucker on earf.
>>
>>21084417
By "using a god" I meant along the lines of what you said. Obvious Hrunti's priest would be better for scouting and such, for sure. Thanks for the explanation, boss.

H
>>
>>21084508
H. I feel like we don't ask the elders enough.
>>
>>21084624
>>21084642
Given how it's the middle of winter, the elders are mostly content with how things are going for now. They believe however, that it's time to truly explore the river. With the rafts and canoes the tribe has, going downstream should be easy and quick, much quicker than exploring overland. In the meantime, they essentially mean to take it easy for the rest of the winter, especially after the near-disaster with Khoine.

Several have taken up hobbies in the winter, making things from wood or pottery. For the first time in a while, the tribe has real luxury time. Some of the elders are calling for a celebration. One poor soul practically begs for berries to actually be gathered next fall, clutching a long-empty drinking bowl.
>>
>>21084833

ok then

A) down the river
D) lets figure out a way to track the seasons
E) lets celebrate our new gods
>>
>>21084833

D. Tracking them seasons.
E. Celebrate our new gods

I've got no ideas for our third choice, really. I just don't want to explore in the middle of winter.
>>
>>21084875
Be advised... (I really shouldn't be helping like this...) Travelling and exploring and such in winter has risks! Even with a snow goddess on your side, it's still dangerous.
>>
>>21084875
Seconded
>>
>>21084970

i guess we can wait till spring for exploration, but idk what else to do for the 3rd choice
>>
>>21084970
It really should be common knowledge, really. lol.

Alright, just to have another option,

G. Lets work on our walls a bit. We may not get much done, but any improvement would be good. Especially remembering that Mikuhla has to meet a new people in the spring and they might not be friendly.
>>
>>21085025

thats true, we could also make some weaponry or shields, but idk how much copper we have saved up for spears/armor
>>
>>21085046
Building more weapons isn't gonna help much, but building better weapons will. Right now, the best course of action would be working on the walls.

So I'm changing >>21084974 with
D)try to find a way to track the seasons
E)Celebrate the gods
F)improve the walls
>>
>>21085114

ill say the same then
>>
>>21085046
The copper stockpile is a little low. It's winter, but the journey to the copper-rich hills isn't that far. Either way...

As winter starts to draw to a close, the tribe holds a festival to celebrate and praise the gods. Chani, Groza, Yeneth, Hrunti and Khoine are all praised, dances are performed, offerings are made, food is eaten and music played in prodigious quantities. Khoine herself attends the celebrations and spends a great deal of time close to Mikuhla, the hunter who granted her the arrowhead talisman. Neither of them will speak about their time spent together to anyone else and Khoine leaves after the celebrations, though she visits the village (and Mikuhla) regularly.

Realising that the seasons are passing un-numbered and un-marked, a flaw in their new writing system, the Wise Ones set to inventing some way to mark and number the days and years. It may be a while before they have results however.

The walls around the village are strengthened a little, logs wedged against them on both sides to give them strength, especially as some sections blew over in the blizzard!

Hey everyone, can't believe I was late. I'm going to describe the look of our various heroes. Starting with Trym Wolfsbane, God Slayer.

Trym is not taller than most of the men of the village, but broader of shoulder. His hair is black as pitch and extended to halfway down his back, along with this he has both a beard and attached mustache combo. These are neatly trimmed to close to his face. His skin is a deep tan due to constant scouting missions in the wilderness.

On his body he holds the scars of combat: against beasts, men, and gods. Each remind him of a battle and each holds a story. Particularly is the one along his left flank, where the spear of Grozin, God of Battle, nearly split him in two.

Next I'll to Gerin.
>>
>>21085443
Gerin Battleforged, The Mountain.

Nearly two heads taller than any man in the village Gerin is an absolute monster of a human, enormous and lumbering with muscles bulging so greatly that they nearly burst the animal hides binding them. His eyes are grey, but his hair fans out behind him as red as fire. His face is clean shaven.

He has taken to wearing the pelt of an extremely large elk buck. The head creating a hood over his and antlers fanning out above his head. His weapon of choice is an enormous copper block adhered to the end of a pole. Groza's Fist, he calls it.

Besides that he wears his armor nearly constantly, one of the larger versions of the copper scale armor created by the forge workers.

EVENT
Mikuhla awakes one day in his family's hut, the sun on his face, shining through a new hole in the roof that was not there before. He recalls the dream he had the night before, in which, he saw the goddess Ermetha, the Sun-in-Ascent. She told him in his dream that the time has come for him to fulfil his end of the bargain that was struck in the winter. Mikuhla has not seen Khoine since the snow melted several days ago and is reluctant to leave without saying his farewells.

What will the tribe do?
A) Tell Mikuhla to go at once. The bargain must be honoured.
B) Allow him to wait, in the hopes that Khoine will come again soon.
C) Send Mikuhla off with an escort for his safety.
D) Allow Mikuhla to stay. A bargain made under duress is not valid!
E) Other
>>
>>21085495
Rina is much more pale than most who are in the tribe, her skin ghostly white and her eyes a flashing green. She wears hides bleached nearly white so as to show that she is a priest of healing. Her hair is curly and the same black as most of the tribe. Her body is delicate, slim, and she is shorter than the average woman in the tribe.

Also she goes barefoot everywhere so she may be connected with the earth and river.
>>
>>21085508

i have a bad feeling something bad will happen if we just let him leave

E) we ask ermetha to allow him to wait for her before he leaves
>>
>>21085508
E) We will have Mikuhla go out into the forrest and call to Khoine. She will be weaker during the summer so she should not pose a danger to what ever tribe Mikuhla is going to. Have them go together, because someone needs to watch after that poor girl. Also send an escort. Three of our devouts, 1 wise man, and 10 able bodies hunters along with carts and enough provisions to keep them them safe.
>>
>>21085567
bodied
>>
>>21085508
C. Ermetha never said he had to go alone did she?

Feel bad for the young man, I do, but we are honor bound (and not willing to piss off the sun goddess) to send him on his way.

"Mikuhla, though I know it pains you to part without saying your goodbyes to the goddess, but we are honor bound to send you away. Take heart in knowing that the seasons will change once again and as Khione herself said, she is everywhere that snow falls. Though you may not see her, she is always there with you and before long, you shall be together again."

Just a wee bit of fluff.
>>
>>21085645
He should bring her with him. They need to fall in love and get married and what not. We need demigod babies! Think of the possibilities!
>>
> Wow... Low turn-out tonight...

It's a three-way split so far, with only one vote for each each option... I'm going to leave this open slightly longer, in the hopes of one coming out on top, but if not, dice will be rolled for it.
>>
>>21085645
tie breaker vote it is i am seconding this notion.
>>
I don't get why should we wait for the snow goddess. It's spring, no more snow, waiting for her would mean waiting for the next winter. I go for C, he'll see her again when the next snow falls.

>>21086083
That's partly because I'm not that good with God plays, I'm waiting for something more anchored in reality. It's not a complaint, the game is awesome even with all these gods, they're just not my cup of tea and can understand that others enjoy them
>>

>>21086194
> Heh... The reason the gods exist is... Well, check out Legend of the Five Rings, if you have the chance. There, 'mage' basically means 'priest'.

Aaaand it's still split two ways! Ah well.. Dice time!

1-3 Call to Khoine, so she and Mikuhla can say their goodbyes
4-6 Send Mikuhla off with an escort
>>
>>21086301
All my rage! I want demigod babies!

Oh well, next winter then. Also, is anyone opposed to those descriptions I posted?
>>
>>21086337
nope, they're all pretty solid.
>>

>>21086301
>Well, the dice have spoken! Nothing wrong with the descriptions from what I can see. Finally, we can tell what folks look like. What about Mikuhla? He's had a lot of screen time, even if he's getting put on a bus for now.

Mikuhla sees the reason in the tribe's words. Though he hides it well, it pains him to leave without a word to Khoine. He and his escort load up plenty of supplies onto one of the carts and leave, following his divinely-given directions. With luck and the favour of the gods, they will all return unharmed!

The new crops are sown in the fields, setting everything ready for the year's harvest. The crops are rather unpalatable as they are, but better than nothing at all.

The Wise Ones continue to apply themselves to their year-marking system. It is unsure how much headway they have made, given most of what they seem to be doing is arguing.

Several young men and women board a raft, taking plenty of supplies with them and setting out downstream. Trym and Syfron go with them, keeping to the agreement to spend the spring and summer with the River Brothers. When they reach Syfron's village, the scouts are shown something interesting: strange pots for holding dry goods, formed out of woven branches. They seem much lighter than pots and less liable to break. Proceeding further downstream, the scouts pass through the tall pine trees, the smell of resin heavy in the air. Going yet further, they finally reach the edge of the forest, where the land passes into long, shallow hills, the river winding through them. Just as their supplies run out, the scouts see signs further downstream of smoke, like many cooking fires. It's not unreasonable to assume that there is another tribe there. The scouts did not go any further, for fear of the strangers being unfriendly, but the supplies should stretch that far.

EVENT
The two cows bartered from the copper tribe have given birth! Two healthy new calves are now part of the herd, one male, one female.

The Wise Ones continue their arguments with regards to the dating system. They seem to be making some headway at least, although their arcane experiments with circles of stones with a stick in the middle have left many scratching their heads and pondering what on earth is going on.

Gerin prays to Groza on behalf of the tribe, asking his god for his wisdom on weaponry. Groza's only reply is that it matters not what a warrior is swinging, so long as he knows how to fight well with it. Spears, bows, axes, clubs, bare hands; the battle god doesn't care what is used (and Gerin suspects Groza doesn't actually know how to make weapons himself, only how to use them).

At the request of the heads of the tribe's families, the scouts go back downriver, unsure of what to expect. When they round the bend in the river, they are greeted by the sight of fields on the riverbank, more extensive than those the tribe has. Passing onwards, they come upon a large village, walled in by a sturdy palisade and with many huts inside the walls. The side facing the river is open and several rafts, canoes and curious craft made of skins stretched over a wooden frame lay on the banks, next to racks of drying fish. The arrival of the scouts is not greeted with as much surprise as one would think, though there is some curiosity about them. The foreign tribe does not speak the same language however and after the initial fuss and some very awkward bargaining for more supplies, the scouts return home.

Given the village's rapidly dwindling food stocks, the tribe takes to the boats, fishing for their food. While the haul isn't exactly overwhelming, it's sufficient and serves as a nice boost to the stores.

The Wise Ones report they are making some real progress on the calendar. They claim that soon, they expect something of a breakthrough. They then go on to say that by the system they're currently working on 'soon' is a very nebulous term that could mean anything from 'before lunch' to 'before you die of old age'. They're sent back to try again...

A handful of scouts and Wise Ones paddle upriver to ask Rina for her help in translating for them. The priestess gives her agreement and the party proceeds back downstream to the new tribe. What will their negotiations uncover?

You'll have to find out next time, I'm afraid! It's getting late here and I think that's all for today. Again, my apologies for the late start. The next thread will be on Saturday at 4:30PM EST. I hope to see everyone there!
