YOU ARE ALEX RASTON.

And you walk down the stairwell with Dave, shoulders heavy with the weight of the heart you just broke.

As you approach Dave's 'Saab of Justice', he turns to you. "So what's next for you?"

A fair question.

>What do?

"Didn't have any particular plans.

Mind telling me what you found out about the local gangs and so on from Molly?"

"Apparently there's a couple of street level punks like the Tunnel Snakes, but everyone else belongs to a group called the 'Continuum Syndicate'."

"What're they like?"

"Like if the mob was born from the mindset of a 21st century businessman. Very efficient and profitable schemes, all compartmentalized so it's impossible to even try to stop more than one operation at a time. Word is they've got a stake in pretty much everything in America bigger than the normal local street shit as far as illegal activity goes. Drugs, weapons, slaves, anything for the right price. And done professionally, in nicely tailored suits."

"What about those weird guys with the coats and shit?"

"No idea." Dave says. "I skimmed the info she had, but the only things she didn't know a lot about are the black-rocks and a couple of little punk groups, like Tunnel Snakes wannabes."

"Tunnel Snakes Wannabes is one of the most depressing concepts I've been exposed to."

"Yeah."

>Question anything more specific?
>>

"I suppose it'd be silly and rude to ask why and how Molly knows this.

I don't think that this Continuum Syndicate is the people I encountered. It just doesn't feel quite right."

You decide to go back to the hangar, and you and Dave begin to climb into the car.

When you turn to him, you notice that Dave seems to be asleep.

Then you notice the dart in his neck. Then you feel a sharp pain, and darkness.

You wake up tied to a chair in an office, looking at a man in a suit. He has Brown hair with gray streaks, and ice blue eyes that seem to be both judgmental and oddly cheerful. Like he considers you beneath him yet doesn't hold it against you.

"Hello there." He says with a smile, over a glass of scotch "How do you feel?"

>What say?
>>
>>21065743
"Like I just got stabbed with a dart and kidnapped.

That was kind of a silly question to ask."
>>
>>21065743

>>
>>21065743
Like I really need to stop getting kidnapped. I'm worried what the repeated exposure to powerful tranquilizers might do to my long term health.

>>

>>
"Like I really need to stop getting kidnapped. Seriously. I'm starting to get worried about the long-term health effects and shit. Also, I need to see if I can get a refund on my anti-ninja security measures, as it seems to not do shit for me." The man smirks at you. "Also everything tastes like pennies, and it feels like a small horde of sheep have taken up residence in my throat."

"Technically, a group of sheep is called a 'flock'."

"Fuck your technicalities. If I had a nickel for every time I've woke up tied to something I'd have na sock full of nickels to beat kidnappers to death."

"Got the snark out of your system?"

"Maybe."

>Anything else?
>>
>>21065859
Ask him why did they kidnapped us.
>>
>>21065859
"So, why did you kidnap me? Was it my winning personality or something else?"
>>
>>21065859
Oh wait.. wait... no that's gas

Yep snarks gone for now
Although I think I should start hanging a standardized kidnapping form on the door so that in the future I can skip all this and we just get straight to business
>>
>>21065930
>>21065900

"So, why did you kidnap me? Was it my winning personality or something else?"

"Actually, it's because You know my son, Matthew."

"... Who?"

"... Dammit." He says, turning to his second in command. "Did we kidnap the wrong guy? Really? Come on guys, I thought we were past this kind of amateur hour bullshit." He turns back to you. "Unkempt hair? Two pairs of goggles? Giggles incessantly while reading science journals?"

"You mean Mooch?"

The man in front of you stares blankly for a good ten seconds. Before he begins to rub the bridge of his nose. "... Fuck me running.... Mooch?" He says looking at you, almost pleading "Mooch? Fucking seriously?" He throws up his hands in exasperation. "Fuck it. Chair." He says with a gesture, and his second throws him a metal folding chair, which he places in front of you, leaning forward onto the back as he sits down. "Here's the deal Alex. I brought you here to ask for your help. And... Mooch's.... as well." He says your friends name like it makes him physically ill.

>Say what?
>>
>>21066059
"And you figured the best way to ask for my help was to kidnap me and tie me to a chair. Thanks.

Given that I'm tied up anyways I may as well ask. What is the problem you need our help with?"
>>
>>21066059
Lemme get this straight. YOU need MY help both with your problem and with getting the help of your estranged son with said problem. So you, being the BRILLIANT specimen you are, decide that the single best way to ASK for said help, is to have me tranquilized and kidnapped, and then interrogating me while I'm tied to a chair. Did you ever consider just, y'know, ASKING for help, or does that not make you feel enough like Tony Soprano to make up for your inability to fulfill your wife's needs?
>>
>>21066107
seems a bit offensive for a guy being tied up by mobsters
>>
>>21066107

"Well, not so much NEED, but he seems more likely to listen to you. Then again, my alternative plan of just chucking you off the roof for being a cock looks more attractive." He sighs. "You see, there are three kinds of people in the world, by my point of view. there's the people who help my plans, the ones who do nothing to my plans, and the ones who impede my plans." He looks up at you. "They are rewarded, ignored, and eliminated, respectively."

"So you're saying 'help or I kill you'?"

"No I'm saying that everyone has a value. With every bit of snark that comes from you, yours decreases. If you're no longer worth my time...." he lets the sentence hang. "Look, I'm not asking you to kill somebody, or burn down an orphanage or whatever. So I'm asking less of you than I do most people. All I want, is to talk to my son. I want to convince him to come take over the family business. I want my kingdom to live beyond my rule."

"So why not just talk to him?"

"He blocks my calls. When I send people to talk to him, he either kills them or leaves them tied naked in front of as church or something." He sighs. "Less likely to do this to a friend, which available data says you are. At this point, my options are to give the keys to him or his brother."

>Say/ask anything?
>>
>>21066287
So I take it his brother is not a good option?
>>
>>21066287
"Alright, alright. I can ask him for you."

What's the family business again? I think we've gotten some sort of description of it from Mooch?
>>
>>21066317
Mooch's dad is a crime lord.
>>
>>21066287
"And his brother is somehow worse than Mooch.

I know this because if he wasn't worse you'd go for him instead of kidnapping Mooch and sending a small party of AC pilots after him when he escaped.

So what's the problem with the brother. Is he crazier than Mooch, if such a thing is possible? Is he evil, insane, psychopathic, sociopathic, not profit focused?

I'm going to be honest, I'll let him know you want to talk about this, but I'm guessing he's not going to accept your offer even if I try to convince him."

>>21066317
Evil Crime Lord.
>>
>>21066297

I'm pretty sure the brother was the dude in the orange suit.
>>
>>21066330
>>21066335
Oh yeah, that. Now I feel kinda silly about asking.

Eh, screw it, I'm going back to bed.
>>
>>21066287
"How exactly am I supposed to do that? Telling him you'll kill off his friends isn't exactly a great selling point.
And if Mooch is so against having the job that he'll probably let everything go to pieces through disinterest, and his brother is apparently worse, why not pick a different successor?"

I think this ruins the idea of a family business.
>>
>>21066335
>>21066362

"I don't think you'll have to be too persuasive. Once he knows I might give it to his brother, he'll come running back." He responds with a chuckle. "Besides, I can't pick a different successor. All of my important files and equipment are gene-locked. They can't be opened unless someone who's a direct line male descendant uses it. It's a fantastic fail-safe that insures my family's success and dominance for as long as we possess a Y chromosome. So my only options are Matt, his brother, or to get re-married and try again from scratch. Which will take about twenty years before we get to where we are, at least."

His assistant coughs. "There's also cloning...."

"Shut up Gary. Cloning is too unreliable a science to be a viable alternative. By the time the research in that field begins to bear fruit, we will have already lost all other alternatives." He sighs and looks at you. "Oh well. I've got a promise out of you to talk to him, I suppose this will have to do for now."

"So are you going to untie me?"

"And risk you disclosing my location?" He responds with a chuckle. "Give me some credit Alex, I'm a professional."

Before you can ask what he means, you feel a sharp pain in the side of your neck. Just before your conscious fades completely, your hear Gary's voice one last time "I'll be taking you home now, Mr. Raston."

His employer also chimes in with a "We'll be in touch."

"Same story on my end." You respond.

Hate to say, but... Mari is right. I'm pretty sure that MGN and AC are the best quests on /tg/ atm, and I think it could probably be scientifically proven. Ask Mooch, he'd know how. My only complaint about AC is there's not as much content as I would like per thread, most other quest threads seem to go much farther per thread...
>>
>>21067208

>There are reasons for that, meta and otherwise: Some of which is spoilers territory.

>What it boils down to is this: the more people want to micro-manage, the slower overall progress will be. It's difficult for any quest to find the right balance between player freedom and narrative strength.

>I can't speak for how they're doing right now, as it has been a while since I've read either, but MSQ and SWQ seemed to be planted firmly at either end of the spectrum.

>MSQ got the micromanagement problems so bad that almost every action was deeply considered and well executed. To the point where cooking a single meal took up most of a thread.

>Meanwhile, SWQ was an unending torrent of awesome, but frequently Planefag would misinterpret, ignore, or tally votes too soon, and would post a giant block of plot, exposition, and character development in a direction nobody wanted to go in.

>Interestingly, it's a problem I have little experience in, since it's pretty much completely unique to quest-threads.

>As much as people might praise or deride me: I'm really learning this on the go here. I've been running and playing traditional games for several years, and I've been playing vidya since the SNES.

>But AC-Quest is the first Quest I've run that people took a serious interest in, and is one of my first attempts at serious game design.

>So, uh, if there's any complaints/criticism, I try and hold semi-regular threads for commentary and brainstorming. Feel free to chime in.

haven't read either in soooo long, I was reading too many quests and it was eating my life, so I picked my Favourite which turned out to be AC quest and MGN.
ACQ because I love giant robots and I don't think there is another quest involving them and AC guy pretty much perfectly emulates what I think life in that universe would be like
I stay for the unending crazyness that is AC guys life

Apparently Kate decided to stay at the hangar for a little bit with Elsie before headed back. Your sister waves a hand in greeting as you enter the kitchen, and you decide that you don't really NEED to go home yet.

Besides, when was the last time you actually sat down with your family? It might be your last chance for a while.

"I just thought I'd stop and talk, see how you were doing, and enjoy having some time without my normal daily craziness and responsibilities. Besides, I don't see you often enough." You force a small smile as you look to her. "So, how have you been doing lately?"

"Mostly doing what I can to help Zack with his efforts to organize and distribute things." She answers. "Beyond that just fixing up the house and looking after everyone as best I can." She shrugs. "Same sort of thing I was doing before, just new place, new people."

Your sister nods. "Yeah, I do what I can to help her when I'm not busy with things at the hangar."

You feel a slight tinge of guilt, which your mother apparently notices. "Hey, don't worry about looking over the little stuff. You do more than any of us. Besides, I can't really get upset with you for not helping me sweep when you're splitting your time between a battlefield and a hospital room." She then blinks at how accusatory that DID sound to her, and looks away. you always knew hat she didn't really like what your chosen career, but it seems like lately she's been letting that supportive mask slip a bit more.

What's the word on the street, how are the rest of the citizens of Hope doing? They coping alright? There anything more I can do to help?"

"Glad to hear you're alright." You say, and then you think about it for a second. "You know, I keep hearing about how things are in a general sense with everybody, but how are things looking from street level?" your mother looks at you quizzically. "I mean, Zack keeps tabs from an administrative level, and I'm always trying to do something to improve the situation on the whole, but... you're right there in the thick of it. I was wondering if you had any perspective to share."

She thinks about it. "I guess it's been tense and hopeful. I think you help a lot, not just with money either. Especially during the tournament, you were a very visible example of us trying to make things better, not just a promise of something more. Like an Icon or something." The notion makes sense, even if it does make you a little uncomfortable.

"How about you personally? Anything you want yourself? Just around the house?" You ask, glancing around.

"Nothing worth complaining about. I mean, the picture on the TV isn't great, and a microwave would be convenient, but we're barely above worrying about starving right now. Those sorts of things are luxuries by comparison."

"You don't want them?"
>>
>>21077948

"I can do without. I mean, they'd be nice, but it's not worth making someone else go without new clothes instead." She shrugs. "I know you don't remember it very well, but right after everything went to hell we called it a good day when we had clean water to drink and a warm place to sleep. what we have now is paradise compared to that, especially since I don't have to worry about two little kids at the same time." She adds with a laugh. "Don't worry about me too much Alex. I appreciate the concern, but I can take care of myself just fine."

>Anything else you wanted to talk about?

"I know you can, but that isn't going to stop me from worrying.

She gives you a hug that you return, and as you reach for your coat she hands you a bag. "Here. Make sure you share with your friends." She tells you.

"Why, what's in here?"

"Cookies, home made kettle chips, things like that. Just a little care package for you and your friends. And you know they're good, because your sister ate most of the first batch."

Paris, France, the apartment of SEELE-07.

He opens the bathroom, still clad in his silk bathrobe, and walks to the medicine cabinet to begin his day. Opening the mirrored cabinet, he cocks his head. At least, he does until a cell phone rings out in the hallway. The door to the apartment opens, one of the black suit clad bodyguards walks in, closing his cell phone.

"Yes?" SEELE-07 asks, "What is it?"

His answer comes in the form of a swift kick to the face.

As you lay on the floor, you take a moment to collect your thoughts.

Taunting your sister was a bad idea, in retrospect. Generally speaking you never really WIN these things. Even a technical victory just sets you up for payback in the future.

But what bothers you currently isn't your mother trying to decide who she should side with: you, for getting injured, or your sister, because you totally had it coming. You're wondering how you got draped over the fallen chair at this angle. And why the back of your head hurts.

The only thing that makes sense if if the boot hit you hard enough while you were dodging to actually make you flip over and smack your head on the chair. It would certainly explain how the coat-rack fell on you, since you apparently crashed into it upside down and tried to catch yourself.

Ari's looking like she's trying to make sure you aren't hurt while remaining aloof, and your mother's alternating between concerned, exasperated, and pissed looking between the two of you.

>What say?
>>
>>21078735

"HA HA! You hit like a wuss."

More seriously: "Well, your aim's improving. Now we just need to work on your temper."
>>
>>21078735
"What, none for Jenny and the wimp?"
>>
>>21078735
Try and remember exactly how you did that and do it again next time we get attacked by ninjas.
>>
"What?" You ask indignant, "None for Jenny and the wimp?" You try and pull yourself to your feet and fail, until Ari apparently lets the guilt sink in enough to help you. "Seriously though, next time we get attacked by ninjas, just do that. Really. Your aim and timing are fantastic. If we work on your temper a little bit more, we might really have something."

She gives you an angry look. Or is trying to anyway, slowly losing ground to hysterical laughter.

"Something that it's boots anyway, if it remains your weapon of choice. But with results like that, I don't think you NEED another weapon."

That did it. First she lets out a 'snerk' followed by her laughing so hard she needs to lean into you. This proves to be a mistake, as you almost go over again until your mother steps in to catch you.

"Alright, seriously though, I think I need a ride now. The boot to the head knocked me dizzy."

Your sister walks you to the car with your goodie bag, and your mother drives you to the hangar. when you get there, you've recovered enough to walk in.

Ken bumps into you on his way out on a 'booze' run, and tells you that Mooch and his Wife were trying to commit dinner, Laurie was doing something on his computer with Kate, and that he was pretty sure that he saw Elsie watching TV.

I'm really not that good, I'm a very poor drawfag and can only really throw out cartoony shit. if I was to draw a cast pic I would need references, actors people think they look like, pose references and ideas on what they might be wearing, then I would have to draw everybody individually and shoop them together, AND then I would need a tablet to ink it in and do a spiffy background

this would take at least a few weeks and it would still be blown out the water by anything deculture does

You walk up to the kitchen where Mooch and his wife seem to be cooking dinner for everybody.

"So how Much rice did you put in the pot?"

"Eh, I figured a pound should be enough for everybody. It's full of rice and water, so all we need to do is let it cook. How's the stir-fry coming, honey?"

"Well, the pork's marinating in the soy sauce now, so all we need to do is chop some veggies." Morgan hesitates, and looks at the array before her "It's a bit though, cooking for several people."

Mooch shrugs "Just toss 'em in the blender, that ought to chop them nice." Then he notices you. "Hey Alex, sup?"

>Dave.

I have an uncle who was a preacher who went to prison for charges related to child pornography. Before this sounds like a regular 'take that Catholicism' joke, there are two details worth noting: firstly, Uncle Petey isn't a pedophile, secondly he was Lutheran.

Turns out it wasn't HIS child porn, it was his gay BDSM master's that he was holding onto for some reason. I think it was because he needed to go buy drugs in Mexico and didn't want his wife finding them while he was out of town.

Anyway, I don't know how/what/why inspired or made that pic of me, but that's the exact face Uncle Petey gave me when I gave him some soap on a rope for Christmas a couple years ago. It even looks a lot like him.

So you made me look like my least favorite uncle that nobody talks about. I would post a pic so you would have a reference to work with, but my camera's broke and thanks to a combination of bar-fightan' and pink-eye, I look like a diseased raccoon.

I have no idea where I'm going with this, since I've been drinking NyQuil all day to try and head of this fever I got brewing, but I'm pretty sure the moral of the story is 'never trust a ginger'.

You start to wonder if Mooch had a point with his whole 'cyanide capsule in the tooth' thing as you confirm for the third time that the door is in fact, locked.

"So Elsie." Ari asks as she turns to face you from the front seat. "Where do you think we should go first?"

Apparently she's either oblivious or uncaring towards your attempts at escaping at the red lights.

"Shopping?" You respond, hesitantly.

"Your call, Hon." Mrs. Raston responds, turning in the direction of a strip mall.

"What about that big mall over-?" Elsie asks with a gesture.

"Getting renovated after that attack." Morgan responds. "I don't know the details, but Matt said Dervish was involved."

"First Mooch, now Dervish." Mrs Raston comments from the drivers seat. "Does everyone you know have a weird nickname?"

Everyone jokes around for a bit, while you try not to feel so horribly out of place and watch the scenery pass out the window.

Before long, you see that you've pulled into a garage and everyone gets out to walk to the mall. You decide to head to the...

We can lock a roll if its in the first 3.

I say we might as well lock the 20

After a few minutes walking around, something catches you eye. A pair of somethings, in fact.

A pair of books: The Invisible Man, and The War of the Worlds. While you examine them, noting that while they look rather old they're in remarkably good condition, a voice comes from over your shoulder: "Good eye you've got there. there was an estate sale a few weeks ago, and a small library of classic works came onto market. Sadly, I only made off with those two gems."

"What's so special about them?" you inquire trying to play it cool, remembering Alex's birthday is only a couple weeks away.

"Second printings, signed by the author. Most of the collection was like that. Whole lot must've been worth a good ten million dollars all told." With that, you turn and see the man you've been speaking with. He's a well groomed, if somewhat large, individual with a shaved bald head and a small Goatee that immediately strikes you as oddly irritating. "Hi, I'm Rick." He says, extending a hand to shake.

"Elsie." You respond, taking the offered hand.

"You interested in maybe buying these?" he asks, with a slight wave towards the books while watching you closely.

[ ] Yes.
[ ] No.
[ ] Maybe.

We do NOT show him that we want them. We maintain a facade of mild interest. If we show interest, he will eat us alive on the price.

>[X] Maybe.
What's the price?

Also well played AC-Guy well played...
>>
>>21092062
>[x] Maybe.
>time to play it cool
>>
"Maybe. Depends on how much you want for them."

"The Invisible Man isn't quite pristine, and It's a second edition, not a first. That said, it's in great shape and it's signed by H.G. Wells himself. I actually had a handwriting expert certify the two of them as soon as they came into my possession. I'd be willing to let it go for about four grand." he says, looking at the pair. "The other one, The War of the Worlds, is a signed first. Condition's a tad worse, a few dog-eared pages but.... signed first edition of one of the most famous works of fiction ever written. I'd want at least five for that one."

>What say?
>>
>>21092220
"I think I'll pass actually"
This is way more than we should be spending on books right now, even if we could haggle down to half of that.
>>
>>21092220
"Hmmm. I think I'll pass."
While that is a pretty good deal, we don't have the dosh for things like this just yet.
>>
>>21092278
A shame. Wouldve made a great present.
>>
>>21092278
>>21092263

"I think I'll pass for now." You respond. It actually seems like a really good deal, but.... "It sounds like a good price for the item, but a bit much for me right now."

"Hey, it happens." He says with a shrug. "You change your mind or want to ask about anything, just give me a holler."

You thank him, and turn to see Ari staring enraptured by a cherry red Harley from the 60's talking to another man who looks like a greasy stoner who's done a little too well on business seems to be hashing out a price with her. Her Mother's looking over some cool classic rock paraphernalia with an older man in a suit. Morgan's over looking at some antique swords on the wall, pointedly ignoring a third man's attempts to get her attention.

That sounds like Ari getting herself killed.

We need to try and stop that. Maybe subtly, be we should do something about that.

You walk over to where Mrs. Raston's standing looking at guitars. She turns when you approach. "You see that framed guitar over there?"

"Yeah?"

"Same one Jimmy Page used to use in recording sessions."

".... Who?"

She gives you a look, before shaking her head with a sigh. "Find anything interesting?"

"A couple books Alex would like, but not something I'd be comfortable buying."

"Why?"

"Expensive as hell. It's a fair price, but it's a high one."

She nods. "Not sure we're going to be buying anything today." She responds.

"Eh. Ari seems to have fallen in love with a bike over there." you respond with a wave.

"Bike?" She asks as she turns and looks. Her face freezes, and her stare goes distant. She the quietly and purposefully makes her way over to her daughter.
