You are Redbeard the Cleanshaven. You and your crew are in Newport, for supplies and repairs. You have bought a number of upgrades to your ship and likely will have to remain here while they are fitted, for another two days at least.

You are currently sitting in the lounge area of a moderately expensive steakhouse. Your meal with Safiya ended well, after a few minor issues involving the raven-haired serving girl and getting your food on time. You've had a drink and she's finished the bottle, then started on a second. A few minutes ago her tail wrapped itself around your leg, and she is beginning to get rather touchy.

You should probably end this before it goes somewhere you really can't afford to let it go.

You toss the last of your drink back and turn to the lamia.
"Let's go back to the ship Charles," she says with a lustful look in her eyes, "I want to show you something."
>>
Well shit. Did you mention you're actually a girl? Well you are, and if your crew were to find out your life will start to fall apart again. Your harpies will be the first to leave, probably as soon as they can take to the air. Your catgirls will thin out soon after, only the uninformed and particularly dim ones remain. Without a crew you'd have nobody to run the ship, Emma would have to look for work elsewhere. Illandra would leave the moment she thought there wouldn't be any more gold. Within a week it would be just you and Lasciel, if she hasn't murdered you for wasting all she's done.

"Charles." Safiya's face is only inches away from yours now.

Oh snap, think fast.

[ ]"I've got to start this recruiting thing before it gets too late, sorry."
[ ]"Oh shit, look at the time. I'm late for that meeting about where we're going to earn out next meal." <Emergency call to Illandra to organise said meeting.>

Kiss her on the forehead.

"Saf, you know how much I care for Lasciel and the potential fallout if anything actually happened between us. I'm sorry but this isn't going to happen.

I'm glad I was able to show you a good time, and I care about your happiness, and I know that you won't be able to be happy with me. I'm sorry.

Now I've got to do some recruiting, but I'll happily escort a fine lady like yourself back to the ship."

"Nonsense Charles, I don't know much about magic, but I do know that curses don't work that way. If they did then this plague wouldn't be such an issue, would it?"

"Look, I'd love to, but responsibilities call, I'm afraid. I've got to start this recruiting thing before it gets too late."
"Oh but I thought-, Oh." Her eyes start to tear up a little and you manage to extricate your leg as her tail loosens.
"I'll meet you back on the ship."
As you leave you see her slink up to the bar.

When you get back to the ship you find Illandra waiting. "Ah, Captain, I've had the catgirls out posting flyers and spreading the word. I even managed to find us a bar that'll give us a free drink for every 4 that our recruits end up buying. We should be able to get mighty smashed!"
>>
>>21063357
We have seriously got to figure out a way with Lasciel that we can get around this 'being a girl' thing without losing our crew.

The bar is on the other side of town, a huge re-purposed warehouse that often hosts functions like this. You take Illandra and Emma with you and head there. On the way Emma goes over the current roster and supply counts. 30 days until you start running short, but you do have a bit of spare money, if you wanted to pay out of pocket.

As you pass the market district you catch sight of Lasciel through a crowd. She is wandering away from you with a small sack in one hand and a dagger in the other.

"What sort of crew were we looking for today?" Emma asks.

>More 'girls means more shares of the plunder, and hence less loot per mission you take for yourself.

>Mechanics:
>Roll a die, if you get 4 or above, it's a success.
>Different monstergirls roll different dice, ranging from the dragon's mighty d20 to a catgirl's pitiful >d4.
>Most girls will have specialities, and roll better dice when they stick to what they know.
>Rolling a 1 is bad. 'girls may get injured, killed, desert from your crew, or simply be distracted by a ball of yarn if they roll a 1.
>Any named girl rolls 2 dice, and is generally a lot more resistant to injury or desertion.
>>
>>21063619
We needed an Engineer, IIRC.
What Monstergirl would be suited to that task?
>>
>>21063619
Engineering help to start with, anything that is better than the catgirls we currently have
>>
>>21063619
Engineering is the highest priority. We need someone to take the load off of Kie.

Some more specialists and troops would be useful as well.
>>
>>21063619
We need a competent engineer, and perhaps some assistants to go with.
Also, can we browse? I'd like to see what other types of 'girls are around.

"Engineering is the highest priority. We need someone to take the load off of Kie. "
"Yes, that's probably for the best, we can save on some maintance costs that way." Illandra chimes in.
"It wouldn't hurt to get some competent gunners too, even just one for each cannon, to ensure that the catgirls don't set fire to anything. But we could skip that if we took safer jobs, or ones that don't require ship to ship combat."

You enter the bar and a murmur ripples around it. Illandra walks to the bar to order a first round of drinks and you head to the back, where some chairs are arranged in a semicircle around a small table. Embedded in the table is a cutlass, which you hang you hat on. Upon seeing this ancient sign of a captain requiring crew, the atmosphere in the hall changes. Several patrons leave, a few order another drink and some send their catgirls out with messages.

You have a look around the room. There's the usual sort for a town like this; dockworkers, merchants, sailors, human and monster alike drink here. One of the staff behind the bar looks familiar. It takes you a moment to place her, but the glare that she gives Illandra after pouring her drinks is enough for you to place her: it's the serving girl from the restaurant earlier.

Get all the Nymphs and Goblins, 4 of the weresharks, all of the centaurs, and 8 of the elves.
Give preference to chocolate elves because we're racist like that.

>>21063945
Will Goblins and Nymphs work together, or will they fight?
Are there any potential racial conflicts we should know about?
>>
>>21063967
I can't really argue with this, though I'm not too sure about the centaurs, though I can't really say why i'm not.
>>
>>21063945
Get some Gobs for maintenance, Nymphs for magic shit, a few harpies to supplement our existing force.

Elves as ranged supplements to our Lizardwomen, maybe 10 of them, chocolate is preferred but vanilla is acceptable. Given the fact that in a lot of fantasy stuff Elves hate Orcs I would hold off on Orks unless they're cool together.
>>
>>21063945
>Humans
Boooring. No boat for you.
>Elves
Hire a bunch. 10, 12, something like that.
Oh yeah, and prioritise delicious chocolate.
>Orcs
Nah, we got lizards for that.
>Centaur
Dunno how useful they'd be. Will they let someone ride them to bolster close combat? Maybe hire a pair.
>Weresharks
Two of them.

Into the pile with you all.
>Goblins
Hire 4. Choose by whoever brings us the most interesting gizmos in the next half hour. They can't leave the room, though.

You show your list to Illandra.
"Centaurs? On an airship? If you've lots of ground work planned ahead I can understand that, but they're not very suited to hand to hand combat on ships, the corridors are too narrow. We can roster the elves, excellent taste. Goblins and Nymphs don't usually get along." she glances up at Emma who, even while sitting, towers over both of you.
"I'm sure I can get them to work together, I've dealt with worse." The minotaur cracks her knuckles.
"Harpies are fine, this flock seemed quite social."
Your dragon leans closer to you, "But the weresharks? What will you do, throw them overboard for a week every month?"

Fack you, acquire green muscles. I bet theyre more resilient, too.
>>
>>21064240
Yes, simply because we want to be flexible. At the very least, the centaurs will be able to clear the deck while the others go belowdecks.
>>
>>21064240
The centaurs would make for excellent deck fighting. Hell, they could probably just fucking JUMP across the gap from one ship to another. Not to mention how much crap they can carry when we're loading and unloading.
The weresharks I'm not sure about. How much/often do they need water?
>>
>>21064240
"Mmm, you're right, the 'sharks are probably too much hassle. Still not really sure about the centaurs, to be honest."
>>
>>21064240
We should probably take her advice. Aim for centaurs and weresharks in the long term, but don't hire any right now.
>>
>>21064232
She was here before us. She doesn't seem to like monstergirls in general.
Her loss~
>>21064240
The centaurs were a suggestion. We could just keep them on deck or something.
As for the sharks, an entire week? No way. If it was just a day or two we could put them in a holding tank or something, but to have them out of action for a full quarter of the time they're on board? Not gonna happen.
>>
>>21064342
>centaurs and weresharks in the long term
Why? We're not likely to be in a scenario that could fully utilize centaur, and the weresharks will require significant down time, even if we were to go through expensive conversions to keep them on the ship during that time.
>>
>>21064240
No to the weresharks and centaurs. We're air pirates, not sea pirates or land bandits.

If we ever take a job that makes those specialties useful we can contract them out.
>>
>>21064398
Some of us seemed to want them, and they'd at least be more useful than catgirls. Should we just drop the idea entirely?

It's late into the evening when you finish arranging lodgings and contracts. Everyone around is happily sloshed, and Illandra, Emma and yourself are mildly tipsy. You've avoided drinking too much, and it's no easy feat to get a dragon or minotaur drunk.

Your discussion is interrupted by a voice from the other side of the table, "You're Redbeard, yes?" You turn to see the black haired human standing, "Have you got room for a REAL girl on you crew?"

You've been in her shoes, you know how hard it can be.

Illandra signs up the charter and you tell her to meet you on the ship tomorrow.

You leave the werehouse distract and take the long road back to your ship. One of the catgirls posting flyers managed to get herself stuck in a fence, so you have to get her out. Illandra is talking to the catgirl who told you, and Emma is arguing with a street stall over the price of a kebab.

"Well if it isn't Redbeard the Angelthief." An angry voice calls from an alley. At the door stands a very well built man, easily twice your weight. He wears high quality clothes, but they are dirty, as if they haven't been washed in too many weeks. On his chest is an emblem of the local governor. He glares at you across the establishment with a mix of rage and fury. "You dare show your face in the upper city after what you've done?" He brings his fist into his other hand with a muffled thump.

You suddenly notice the half-dozen burly friends he's brought with him. 2 humans, 3 orcs and a sea giant.

>The humans are male, the rest female.

>Sushi is your blind, stupid and mostly mute catgirl. She took a nasty blow for you, and never quite recovered. She can make it about halfway through a 'Nyaa~' before choking off.

You back away as he advances out of the dim alley, silently wishing Lasciel were here to help you out. "It wasn't exactly theft, I prefer the term borrowing, or forced passage. As you well know she is no longer on my ship."
"But you stopped her from arriving."

Illandra sees what is happening and sends the catgirl to fetch Emma.

"Please, if it wasn't for me you all would've been waiting another full week for her arrival. I saw the engines on the airship that she started on: puny."
"No. No, it's because of you that she was late. It's because of you Emilia-" He cuts off abruptly with a howl and charges at you, and his friends follow suit.

Almost before you can react Illandra rushes past you, ducking under the sea giants arms and tripping her over with a swift kick.

The man swings a hook at you, but you dodge to the left. Years of actual fighting have made you good at not being in harms way, and this man doesn't appear to be much of a fighter, for all his size and bravado.

You twist in a rising uppercut, and land it square on his jaw. The man lifts off the ground half an inch and stumbles backwards before falling on his hands. "Emilia, why?" he sobs.

Meanwhile, Emma squares off with two of the orcs, neither game enough to get within her reach.

One of the orcs grabs a metal pole from a nearby stall, but your attention is pulled away when the last orc jumps through the fire and tackles you to the ground. There is a loud thud behind you as Emma's unconscious body lands heavily on the cobblestones. You roll aside as the orc brings down her fists to where you head was only a moment ago. You start to stand up, but a boot to the small of your back forces you back down again.

Illandra wings flare as she darts past the pair of orcs and grabs them, one in each hand. She lifts them off their feet as she jumps onto a rooftop.

"If it weren't for you," the man above you gasps for breath between waves of tears, "she'd still be here."

In the distance you can hear shouts, looks like your catgirl has run off to get some help.

You throw an arm up and catch his wrist as he clumsily swings down. He pauses for a moment and you use the opportunity to twist his hand, forcing the dagger out of his grasp. Then with a wrench you pull him down and yourself up. He goes sprawling face first into the dirt.

Illandra jumps in a lazy arc from the rooftop and lands elbow first on the sea giant, knocking her out cold.

"You're a goddamn fool. Do you really think this is what your precious wife would want you to be doing right now? Risking your life fighting pirates because you're just so fucking pathetic without her? Grow some balls, and do something constructive with your life to honour her memory you ungrateful shit."

He tries to push himself up, but his right arm collapses underneath him. He bursts into tears, battering the ground with his other fist.
"My poor Emilia, why did you leave me?"

Everyone else seems to have run away.
