You are Shy-chan, an overwhelmingly shy roleplayer. This is your story.

Previous thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20910376/

The two of you wake up. You are on your usual ship, The Peregrine. It is the ship that your company bought originally, but when it went under, you accepted it as compensation. After all, they cant use it anymore, can they?

You are at the edge of Rebel space. You are holding vital information that the Federation requires, far from here.

Friend-kun soon wakes up. He moves to the helm.

"So... where to today?" he asks
>>
Sorry for anybody looking for a thread this weekend. I decided it would be better if I just stick to weekdays. It works for me consistently, and it gives me a downtime so I dont become overloaded.
>>
>>20951125
Ah... this business of Rebels and Federation is leaving me kind of disoriented. Rebels against whom? And are there any other major factions nearby? This is background info that Waitress-chan should be giving us.

But as long as we're waking up alone with Friend-kun, maybe we should brew us some coffee.
>>
For those unsure of what is going on, we are hosting a slumber party with Friend-kun and Waitress-chan. Waitress-chan decided to GM, but she prefers sci-fi, so we are doing that.
>>
>>20951125
Okay, I'm guessing that people know that we have this information so if we want a chance of selling it to the Federation we need to lie low, take the circuitous route there, avoid major government presence.

Plot a course Friend-kun.
>>
>>20951432
They are rebelling against the Federation of course. And the only Faction nearby is the Rebels. Whom would kill you if you tried to turn to them.
>>
>>20951478
Very well. Leave the navigation to Friend-kun and brew us some coffee. Then maybe scan the nearby area to make sure we're alone out here.
>>
You decide that Friend-kun probably knows better than you. He is the navigator and pilot after all. You are really just here because you own the ship.

You start a pot of Joe. You yourself dont drink it, but Friend-kun seems addicted to the stuff. You bought a healthy supply for him.

He plots toward the nearby Engi territory. They are fairly friendly, if not eccentric. You had an Engi on your crew once. He didnt survive very long. This is a dangerous line of work, after all.

Your ship is equip with a light beam gun, and a missile launcher, though you are currently running low on missiles themselves.
>>
>>20951662
And for anybody who thinks this sounds familiar, that is because it does.
>>
You eventually reach Engi controlled space. They dont impede your entrance. You are flying toward the next sector when you receive a distress call. It isnt coming from the direction of a planet, so it must be a nearby ship.

Wat do?
>>
>>20951725
Respond to the call, see who it is, what class of ship they are and what kind of trouble they are in.
>>
>>20951662
>only here because we own the ship
Implications: Waitress-chan is only putting up with us because we live here, and we should sleep with one eye open.

>>20951725
Now what kind of roleplayers would we be if we didn't go for such an obvious plot hook? Investigate. Carefully.
>>
You send a message toward the origin of the signal. You receive no reply.

You go investigate the signal and see a wrecked ship floating around.

Wat do?
>>
>>20951895
Scan the wreckage. If our sensors can detect lifesigns, that's cool and all, but all the life we really care about is on board our own ship. More important is the damage to the wreck. Whether it's salvageable, has any functioning weapons, and whether the damage is typical of space combat or just colliding with a large rock.
>>
>>20951895
Do we have any drones to send over to scout? do we even have drone parts? or just tug on Friend-Kun's sleeve and let him decide of all of the Sci-Fi settings to choose from you chose this one. I love you.
>>
>>20952038
You dont have any drones. Your crew used to be bigger, so you didnt really need any, but the majority of your crew was lost due to... circumstances.

I was lost for a setting and then realized that I have been playing one for the past week and a half straight. It just didnt connect until yesterday.
>>
>>20952038
Sounds like you know this setting more than I do.

>>20952083
Oho, circumstances. I am super amused.
>>
Rolled 95

>>20952083
well in that case "roleplay" someone slightly more brazen than we are and volunteer to explore. preemptive roll? you have amazing tastes in videogames, in addition to amazing creativity [/spoilers]
>>20952138
no worries, you pick it up.
>>
You scan the wreckage. It appears to be from a pirate attack, though it was not recent. The majority of the exterior is scrapped, but there may be something good within. You dont detect any major life signs, but there may still be somebody within, though probably no more than one.

>>20952138
Google the proper nouns if you really care.

>>20952178
Please dont roll until I ask for it. It is one of my personal peeves. I assure you, I will ask specifically when I want you to roll. Which is not yet.
>>
>>20952213
Hmm, I'm thinking this could possibly be a trap. Set out a nice salvageable ship with some disguised or otherwise cloaked people in it. But I think the risk is worth it. Armor up, get our weapons, run all the scans we can and board the ship.
>>
>>20952213
see if the sensors pick up lifeforms on board, if the scans show up negative offer to suit up and fly out to the wreckage
>>
>>20952293
Didnt I already do that? In the post you linked?
>>
>>20952213
Nah, I'll just go with the flow and leave it to more setting-savvy players to keep us from getting space raped.

Speaking of which,
>>20952250
Sounds good to me.
>>
>>20952301
microbial lifeforms, or perhaps see if there are any drones or pirates nearby as >>20952250 stated.
>>
Alright, so one of you will have to stay on the ship. The question is, who will go in and explore, and which of you will stay on the ship to keep watch?
>>
>>20952349
Even if we're too shy to make a move, we should still do the dangerous crap personally and rely on Friend-kun to rescue us if shit goes bad..
>>
>>20952349
Friend-kun is better at piloting than we are so he should be at the helm if shit goes down right?
>>
>>20952349
Well Friend-kun HAS to stay on the ship, he's the pilot.
>>
>>20952349
Friend-kun is the pilot so it falls to us to investigate the ship.

Put on our armor, ready our personal weapons, and prepare to board the ship.
>>
>>20952349
We will. Leaving might mean having to talk with someone.
>>
You decide to personally investigate the wreckage. You put on your suit. It can hold about 20 minutes of air, assuming it doesnt get punctured. Your ship floats near the wreckage and you carefully float inside. It seems the oxygen supply in the ship is no longer working. You detach your lifeline when it reaches its full length and it retracts into the ship.
You now have 20 minutes to explore the ship. Assuming it is a generic ship model, it will probably have an engine room, a shields room, a weapons room, a helm, and several other connecting hallways.

Wat do?
>>
>>20952470
I can't think of any reason not to raid the armory first.
>>
>>20952470
Helm first.
>>
>>20952470
see if we can repair oxygen and door controls followed by the medbay.
>>
>>20952470
Start with the helm, if the computer systems are at all functional we might be able to find the manifest, even if they aren't they might have a paper backup. It also would have any personal trophies of the captain, which would likely have the highest value to weight ratios.

After that we can loot the medbay, medicine is expensive stuff.
>>
>>20952516
>>20952527
I yield to your obviously superior plan. I was just thinking we could use more missiles and stuff.
>>
>>20952527
>>20952509
ugh fuck, oxygen means we can explore for a longer period of time. with that time we can thoroughly take apart the ship.
>>
So where to first? Im seeing Helm, Im seeing Medbay, and Im seeing Oxygen.

There can only be one first place.
>>
>>20952588
Medbay. Anybody who survived having no oxygen will be in there.

oxygen!

Maybe if we're lucky there will be evil aliens that hate oxygen
>>
>>20952588
I didn't even realize helm and oxygen were different places. Oxygen.
>>
>>20952709
It takes quite a bit of equipment to purify oxygen. It needs its own room, if just a small one.

Typing it up
>>
You decide to investigate the oxygen room, with hopes of kickstarting it to stay longer. When you pry open the door, the first thing you notice is the gaping hole in the hull. Oh well, it isnt uncommon for pirate attacks to cause breaches.

The next thing you notice is the body laying on the ground with a strange device pressed its mouth. You check for a pulse and see none, as you had guessed. What seems odd is the device it is holding. It seems to have a respirator attachment. It is not a commonplace item. The actual oxygen purifiers are huge, capable of creating enough air to fill the entire ship quickly. It is a fairly simple machine, if not a large scale, so it is very easy to repair. With those combined factors, portable oxygen is not actually commonly used for more than short periods. But the problem here is that the respirator isnt working. Examining the machinery, it doesnt look like there are actually any problems. Which means that there is no power.

Uh-oh.

The generators that made space travel possible are beyond sturdy. They have a nuclear core, but a corporation managed to make it so stable that the possibility for a large-scale meltdown are astronomically small. They were mass produced due to these advantages that they are extremely common, cheap, and as a result, rarely stolen. These reactors are so sturdy, they always outlast the ship. They just dont break.

So why is there no power?
>>
>>20952869
Very strange. I doubt it was destroyed, either stolen or the connections to and from it were broken.

Take the corpse's oxygen if possible, it'll add some time.

Then visit the reactor room, something is up. How did it manage to send a distress signal if it doesn't have power, maybe the communication stuff is on its own grid.
>>
>>20952924
I smell space rape. We're reporting this stuff to Friend-kun as we go, right?
>>
>>20952972
ahh good idea, maintain contact and report in. investigate the reactor, perhaps if we bring the ship to life we will have another source of firepower.
>>
Examining the corpse closer, you realize that it died an hour ago, slightly after you received the distress message. He was also an Engi, which perhaps explains the unknown apparatus. Engis always had a way with tech.

This whole encounter took about 5 minutes, leaving you with about 15 minutes of oxygen. You report your findings as you walk toward the engine room. The talking apparatus between a suit and a ship is shaky at best, making it difficult to make contact, though there is an emergency system in place that involves boosting the transmitter to max power, often causing a short. It is therefore not recommended but in case of an emergency.

When you reach the engine room, it appears in much worse shape than the oxygen room. It make sense, really. If you are the last survivor of a pirate attack, you would probably go after the vital systems rather than the systems that are really only necessary if you are going to leave.

Another large breach is on the wall. The engine itself is also in disrepair, having been knocked out of its proper position. It would take more manpower than you can muster to repair this. In the hole where the engine would normally rest lies the generator. A hunk of metal that holds the nuclear solution to economic space travel, it doesnt look any different from the one that your own ship has. Some engines may be capable of pumping more power out of it, but every generator is exactly the same. One thing you do notice though is a slight orange hue.
>>
>>20953104
What does our knowledge of engineering, the weird nuclear stuff, and so on tell us about this glow? Is it radioactive? If it is radioactive how bad is it?
>>
>>20953104
in addition to
>>20953132
perhaps we could temporarily siphon some of our ships energy to power some of the systems in the wreckage, maybe we will get lucky and a sys. repair drone will help us out?
>>

>>20953132
agreed. No use getting cancer from rushing in.

also postan in a shy-chan thread.
>>
You dont know why the generator is glowing, but it certainly isnt good. Your generator has been going healthy for nearly two decades and has never looked like that. Even without any sort of maintenance. There is no way to siphon power out of your own generator that you know of. Due to the design, the energy created is very localized. It doesnt create much more than is needed, though it creates plenty to do what it does. The actual generators are extremely small, about the size of a large microwave. The outside is a sealed metallic case. Nobody knows exactly what goes on inside of them aside from their creators, and any attempt to open them to find out have been catastrophic. These are sturdy generators. They dont need maintenance, and you probably shouldn't try to give it to them.
>>
>>20953357
Okay, let's leave it alone then. Don't fuck with the generator. We're low on time so let's hit the helm now.
>>
Sooo...are we still doing real life shy-chan or is this another game?
>>
>>20953499
I explained the plot earlier in the thread.
>>
You decide to make one last pitstop before getting off of here. You go to the helm to discover the epicenter of this disaster. Body after body is piled in the corner. It does not look natural, so you assume it is not. Somebody piled the bodies there. Before you have time to contemplate what, you feel a shake.

"Hey Shy-chan, you there? It seems somebody is here to cause trouble. I can certainly hold off for a while, but Im worried what might happen if the ship you are on takes too much fire. It is enough of a deathtrap as is. Hurry up and get back here."

You give a once more around the helm, grab a disc of the type that is generally used for important documents, such as a captain's log, and turn toward the exit.

Only to find yourself face to face with a Mantis.

Mantises are not known for being particularly friendly. Quite the opposite, really. They are a species adapted to fight ground wars, and the move to space has quite hampered their abilities. They have resigned themselves to manually boarding ships via transportation to defeat any adversaries. Such as you right now, you would guess.

Wat do?

You fire your blaster at the Mantis.

It nimbly sidesteps your fire. It then raises its arm for a counter attack, but the ship shakes suddenly, causing him to stumble.

"You should really get out of there, Shy-kun. It is getting dangerously unstable." Friend-kun advises.

Knowing the combat abilities of these things, you have to agree with him. Taking advantage of the Mantis being off balance, you make a beeline for the exit hatch. This is no time to rush and risk being lost in space however, so you are careful when manipulating yourself toward your own ship.

When you climb into your ship and the airlock finishes pressurizing, the door to the rest of the ship opens, revealing Friend-kun.

"Nice work in there. Looks like you got out just in time. Your air wouldnt have lasted more than another minute or two.

He does not know about the encounter with the Mantis.

Wat do?
>>
>>20954280
Crit and thing above 50 is success so we just critted this SOB.

unless the rules changed
>>
>>20954382
Tell him about the bugger and say there is nothing of value left on the ship.

PS do the Mantis need to breath?
>>
>>20954315
>>20954296
"They are a species adapted to fight ground wars"

These are a combat reliant species. They are naturally good at combat. Not only that, but you have your blaster is not going to be easy to aim at melee range. And, to be honest, it would have taken several shots to kill it.

>>20954384
Crits are 95-100. Then your median has to be above the difficulty, which in this case was 60-65ish. I usually dont set an exact difficulty, because if you are close enough, I will usually go for it. But this wasnt an average situation, and you median was average, so it was a no go.

>>20954409
They do, though less than more biological species. They can hold their breath for about an hour, and their shells are resistant to pressure related damage.
>>
>>20954436
fair enough
>>
>>20954436
So what your saying is the Mantas has been there for under an hour and there could be survivors if they were able to seal off a room?

Looks like we may need to stay a bit longer.
>>
>>20954541
We have important data to get to the Federation with. We should pop the wreck with our ship's puny laser gun and salvage anything of value from the wreckage.
>>
>>20954382

>>
>>20954686
This seems pretty solid
>>
Simic. Come back. Simic. Pls come back.
>>
>>20954436
Blast the wreck for good measure, then GTFO.
>>
You tell Friend-kun to finish destroying the ship so you can salvage anything left inside. He destroys it, sending spreading pieces around. The pirates move in to attack you, but with your added hands to repair and man the weapons system, you quickly deal with that threat as well.

Turning back to the wreckage of the wreckage, you harvest any scraps you could use to repair or modify your own ship. You see the generator float by once again. It appears completely unharmed by the experience. These things are seriously tough. It seems to be glowing a bit brighter now.

You scavenge any useful parts off of the pirate ship as well. It seems these were Mantis pirates, which explains the one found on the wreck.

All in all, you have enough materials to upgrade one system of your ship, or you can try to find a vendor to sell you a new weapon, or perhaps hire a new crewmember.

>>
Oh man this setting. I finally won on Normal for the first time with the Red Tail this morning. The last enemy volley punched holes in everything and started a bunch of fires everywhere with critical hull damage, I managed to pile my last two surviving crew into the helm and vent the entire ship just as my last powered weapon (thank you based halberd beam) finished them off.

I still had O2 and door control halfway online, so my ship presumably lived to fight another day.
>>
>>20954886
Other crew members are just things that can come between us and Friend-kun. We ask him for suggestions, and if he's not dead set on hiring some stranger who might be a rebel spy, we invest in MOAR DAKKA or split the difference.

Although I truly agree with this I will agree to upgrading the ship if it gets the plot moving again. I mean its not like giving the crazies this one little thing will make Shy murder the poor Waitress and chain Friend to her bed where its safe, right?
>>
You search this sector a bit. Eventually, you stumble on a broadcast for a Engi run bazaar, so you stop by. It is a small space station, a neutral grounds of sort. Your weapons are confiscated at the entrance, to be returned when you leave.

Browsing the goods, you see several powerful beam weapons, though your ship is not quite outfitted to hold to many more large guns, so you would probably have to disable your missile launcher. There is also an ion cannon, which can be good for disabling a ship, though it lacks enough firepower to destroy one. There is always the chance of disabling their oxygen, but that doesnt always work out well. Energy weapons take no ammunition.

In another section of the store is the upgrades for your ship. You see a teleporter for boarding enemy ships, though if you are on the ship when it is destroyed, you are out of luck. It also has a cooldown before allowing teleportation again, whether into or out of the ship. There is also a drone station, a necessity if you want to have any sort of automated systems, be it weapons or repair.

You can generate enough power to run two weapons or utilities. You currently have a beam weapon and a missile launcher. The missiles can piece enemy shields, though it uses ammo.
>>
And while you can deliberate that for tomorrow, I think I will call it a night now. We didnt get quite as much done as I would have hoped, but there is really no hurry here. I should stay around for a while.

Ill see you guys again tomorrow at 20:00 4chan time, as always.
>>
>>20955236
I say Ion Cannon because if we take out their oxygen we can let the enemy run out of air and stranded in a useless ship. Next I would go for the missiles because we don't have enough people for an invading away team just yet
>>
>>20955236
Ion cannon.

Lock down enemy weapons and/or shields, pick them apart with beam/missiles.
