Okay so maybe you blew off afternoon classes to play. And by 'maybe', you definitely did. But oh it was worth it. Sure, you only have a few points left, but with the buffs you've been able to purchase, there's no real time to complain about that. Your reputation with the Accel Club seems to have gone up, too... the vibe while you're practicing with them is one of working together rather than trying to take each other apart, and even Sami is a lot happier and energetic than she was this morning, considering her humiliating defeat.

With Platinum Dragon operating as it is now, you feel like you're practically flying. Most of the Accel Club members aren't actually very skilled, so you're able to punch a few levels above where you should be, and more importantly, you're realising that using Dragon Install pretty much instantly levels the playing field, making it a serious ace in the hole.

"Hey, it's time." Sami puts her hand on your shoulder and points to the clock. Certainly, school is up. You stand up and get your bearings; around you, the members of the Accel Club look at you with a cross between expectation and hope.
Good feeling.

Any last things to do, or is it GO TIME?

Platinum Dragon
Points: 70 (Next: 130/200)
Offense: 2
Defense: 2
Agility: 1
Jamming Defense: 1
Speed: 2

Equipment:
(A, Anti-Personnel, 0%) Platinum Blade - Basic chainsword with good reach and a secondary grip that allows it to be used for almost half-swording. Equipped with counter-rotational blade for additional damage and ease of use, making it surprisingly easy to wield.

(C, Personal/Anti-Personnel, 0%) Dragon's Mantle - Red twin scarf mounted on collar. Has trivial morale-boosting effect on allies and intimidating effect on enemies. Has plenty of room for improvement.

Special Attacks:
(A, Anti-Personnel, 5%) Armor Piercer - A specialized attack with the Platinum Blade that penetrates passive defenses like armor effects. In the case of passive effects which improve armor in specific, that effect will be ignored.

(B, Anti-Personnel, 10%) Blade-Breaking Cloth - Weaponizes the Dragon's Mantle, allowing it to briefly come to life and grapple with the target, slowing or even halting their movement temporarily.

(S, Personal, 100%) Dragon Install - Burns meter to drastically improve all parameters. Degree of meter drain proportional to impact of performed maneuvers. Lasts until the super gauge is empty, then causes 50% reduction in all parameters for 30 seconds. Strangely, does not cause Platinum Dragon to pulse red.

You make your way to the gate, finding Perci's name in the school's record and sending her a message to meet you there. Everyone gives you a hell of a wide berth, which seems weird until you look back and realise the entire Accel Club is flanking you; you look like a batch of delinquents.

She actually gets to the gates first, lounging against the brick with arms folded.
"Well, well, I'm surprised you even had the nerve to show up. Well, you can always back out now if you like..."

Here's the previous threads, should you desire to read 'em.

Also, this has nothing to do with anything, but I must point out to you that your style of typing makes me think of you as roughly twelve years old.
>>
Play to our strengths. Try to take her by surprise and play it cautiously, start playing more aggressively as as we charge our meter up.
>>
Once we hit max meter go Install and balls to the wall fucking her shit to the face. Also apply armor debuff.
>>
We need to keep an eye on our meter. We bought the Blade-Breaking Cloth to counter her speed advantage, but we need to have enough meter available to use it, if and when she breaks out her speed abilities. If she does it straight off, of course, we just need to hope that we don't lose before we can charge it and activate it.
>>
So people are aware, I update roughly once every 20 minutes, and once I start typing that's it, so get in quick. Gotta keep the pace up; this is an action movie!

>>20906583
You go hard, quickly crossing the gap across the city street - the new speed and agility you paid out for is really visible, as is the new lightness of the chainsword. As you bring the blade down, though, Bone Mask fires, and the impact of the heavy round smashes into your blade and sends you staggering backwards, with your sword looping high into the air - still in your hand, but briefly out of control.

Even as you're stepping back, there's a white blur that you barely register as her fist coming directly at your face -

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20906794
This too.
>>
>>20906796
Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck. Block her hand with the chain sword. Cut that bitch in half.
>>
>>20906796
Use the momentum of the chainsword to roll back and bring it up in front of us in defence then push back at her

We need to minimize our damage until we can hit install and go nuts on her with the chainsword
>>
>>20906841
This. Also, we need to slow her down, use the scarf as soon as we get an opening.
>>
>>20906796
>>20906841

This. But remain close enough to her to stay outside her cone of fire.
>>
>>20906796
Step to the side, attempt to cut the hand off.
>>
>>20906841
You let your sword carry you, following after it in a quick tuck and roll that takes you back under her punch, letting it whiff through the air above you even as you scramble back to your feet. Her momentum carries her on, of course, and as you come up to one knee you slash at her to push her back.

There's a flicker, and she disappears as your sword's momentum peters out behind you.

"Well, that was a pretty skillful move. You're surprisingly good in spite of your low level." The voice comes from right behind. As you crane over your shoulder, you get to see her:

Standing on the flat of your blade, side on, with her handcannon levelled at your face.
"Look here, smile, and wait for the flash."

>DIRECT LINK

>>
>>20907055
Dodge, grab for the gun. Let's try and dis arm her.
>>
>>20907055
Smile, turn your blade to face up and swing up.

Being near a sword isn't smart.
>>
We can't afford to take this hit. I guess we're nowhere near able to use the cloth technique, though? Her speed advantage is rather devastating. We need to make good use of our chance to nullify it.
>>
You twist your blade up and her shot goes wide, although she lands nimbly on her feet, dancing in even as you start moving towards her. Going for the grapple was a mistake; she hits you in the chest with a rather professional looking clinch knee, leaving you staggering back -

>Health: 90%
>Meter: 20%
>ACCELERATE (10%): - as you stagger back, you use your Mantle, wrapping it around the gun and tugging it free. Otherwise:

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20907317
Tug the gun free, and try and grapple her with it, don't directly grapple her. See if we can get her with Armor Piercer
>>
>>20907317

If we have the chance, we should try to entrap her arm, and take it off with the chainsword. She can pick up a dropped gun, but if we take her arm we do some serious damage, and cripple her ability to fight.
>>
To make this clear: "Accelerate" options expend some of the meter for a specific action. They are exactly as the scope of the passage dictates; conversely, they chew meter and *always work*, so you get your pick of spending meter to get exactly that, or not spending meter but not necessarily having the move work.

Think of it as a QTE.
>>
>>20907317
[x]ACCELERATE (10%): - as you stagger back, you use your Mantle, wrapping it around the gun and tugging it free
this will need a name, I guess.

The gun comes free of her hand as your Mantle comes to life, wrestling it free;
>>20907511
you smash the gun with your blade as it comes in and it hurtles down the street, smashing through the glass front of one of the buildings. It's probably broken, but either way, Bone Mask doesn't seem like she's going after it.

Instead, she simply raises her fists, taking a loose fighting stance; is she planning on fighting you barehanded?
"That was pretty cool. Show me more."

>DIRECT LINK

>>20907565
Start striking her in a balanced combat style. Feints within feints within feints, don't take damage.
>>
She's still a lot faster than us, and she has the speed advantage. And he hits pretty hard, even unarmed. We have a reach advantage given our sword, and we should try to make use of it. Make her pay for trying to get close enough to hit us. This depends a lot on our ability to predict her movements and react, though. Her speed is way beyond ours.
>>
>>20907565
Inb4 she's better with her fists. Oh god we're dead.

>>
>>20907631
>>20907620
As she comes in, you tug your Mantle, throwing it in front of her face so that she can't see and simultaneously fading away, lashing out at her legs. What you aren't expecting is for her to *hop*, coming down on the hilt of your sword with one boot and forcing you down to the ground with her weight.
"When rookies attempt to blind their opponent, they pick only one of two options for their strike: the head, and the legs."
Her knee comes up like a comet, separating you from your blade and planting you on your back in the road a good three meters away with ringing ears.
She steps off the sword and moves towards you slowly. "Since your mantle would went in the way if you went high, consequently you must have attacked my legs. You See?"

>Health: 70%
>Meter: 25%
>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20907838
"Well, I'll just have to attack somewhere else then." Then cover and go for the legs again, she won't expect that.

And if she does then she's bullshit good and there's no point fighting her.
>>
>>20907838
We have the Meter; use the Mantle's grappling ability to snatch the sword and take her legs out from under her.
>>
>>20907969

This is no good. Its an obvious move.

>>20907981

Recovering the sword is smart, but meter matters. And we need to keep in mind that throughout all this, she's building hers too.

But we do need our sword back.

We could swing the mantle, manually this time, a distraction move while we dive for the sword.

Also... I think we need to use the terrain. Get our backs to a wall, or something that stops her coming at us from behind.
>>
I'm >>20907969, forgot the sword got knocked away. >>20907981 is good.
>>
>>20907992
We've barely hurt her, though, so her Meter can't be that high, since it seems to charge up much faster from taking damage than giving damage.
>>
>>20908002

If we keep frittering away our meter, though, we might suffer for it. Its not an imminent danger, but its something to keep in mind.
>>
>>20907992
>stops her coming at us from behind.
what if we deliberately make her come at our back, and strike behind? we could feint by making the same mistake as before...
or grapple her and dive on the sword,,,
>>
>>20908056
She's remarkably fast. We need to counter that somehow. Use the mantle to grapple her maybe, IDK.
>>
We feint like we're going for the sword, then punch with the hand closest to her. If the punch lands and stuns her THEN we go for the sword.
>>
>>20908164
Its a pretty fucked situation, eh.
her weakspots are the enormous ego and low resistance. I don't think there's many ways for us to exploit them...
>>
>>20908260
>If the punch lands and stuns her

>>
>>20908295
No real good options really. She's kicking our teeth in. We can't land a single hit without Dragon Install. I want her on the ground full execution style. This kind of taunting will not stand.
>>
>>20908295
well, >>20908260 sounds the only viable plan for now.
I really can't think about something else in this situation.
>>
You make your move - kipping up onto your feet and breaking to try and get past her. She comes with you, blocking your motion in one fluid step... and as she does, you strike, lashing out with one hand.
She curves her whole body in the same direction as the step, tucking her hand so that you don't even meet her hat - your hand briefly brushes her cape - but in that instant, not only is she in an awkward position, but all her weight and momentum is being forced down onto her left leg.

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20908399
Grab the sword, and if we can fuck her shit up with it while she's still off balance.
>>
>>20908426
It's kind of still a few meters away - she IS still in your way and if you don't actually do something odds are she's going to counterattack you.
>>
>>20908399

Snap kick to the stomach. When you put all of your weight on one leg it isn't vulnerable to being hit and you yourself are in an ideal position to throw a kick with your off leg. She's expecting us to go for the sword and open ourselves up.

Instead what we need to do is kick ourselves as hard as we can and catch her off balance. Going for the sword is a second we can't spare.
>>
>>20908434

>>
>>20908525

>>
>>20908636

*But if so that makes a lot of sense.
>>
>>20908636
Ah, shit, the meter...
>>
>>20908448
>>20908481
As she overbalances, you return the favor and kick her. Hard. There's a distinct *whumph* that is her breath leaving her as the attack folds her over, and then you grab her face, slam her bodily to the ground, and mount her hips, raining down blows until the pavement cracks beneath her.

That's not to say she isn't defending herself - she gets her hand up, deadening your punches and shifting to throw a few off-target, but you're definitely taking a toll here.

Then, as you haul back and come down for one more, she traps your hand, uses it to pull you down against her chest, and quickly half-shifts to one side, wrapping your arm and twisting it out against the elbow in a wonky inverted armbar. Right now it's just painful, but you've got no leverage and if you don't do something soon, she's going to break your arm.

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20908671

I figured something like that might happen, keep the arm bent so it doesn't get hyper extended and go to stand up. Keep wailing on her with the other hand to increase our odds of getting free.

But above all DO NOT hyperextend that elbow.
>>
>>20908692
This one.
>>
>>20908671
Break the arm and punch her face turning 180
>>
>>20908671
Can we grab her with the other arm?
if yes, we should use our superior mass to backdive at maximum strenght and smash her to the ground.
or a wall.
or something else
>>
>>20908799

If we grab her or screw up our balance she's likely to have the freedom to go for us with her legs and gain leverage. That's when she tears our arm off, and that's when we're really hurting.
>>
>>20908799
She's actually still beneath you, she's just trying to submit you from the bottom.
>>
>>20908816
So we wait for the referee to count?
>>
>>20908867

It'd be better to make this a standing game. You can ground and pound, but there's always a degree of danger going to the ground with someone who has a better ground game.

Also when we break free we might want to go for the sword, we'll be in a position to.
>>
>>20908862
What...just fucking stomp her skull like a dog shit. who the fuck cares about a broken arm.
>>
>>20908889

Gives her a big chunk of meter and does a fuck ton of damage. Plus how will we swing a sword when we come apart, we can't keep grappling with one arm.

We end up with one arm we can't grapple, she doesn't stay on the ground, and she picks us apart coming at our weak side because we can't block or swing with that hand. Not worth the risk.
>>
>>20908816
Then fucking headbutt her in the face.
>>
>>20908912

That would mean coming in closer and losing any chance of standing up.
>>
Decision time.
>>
>>20908961

Whatever we do let's not get our elbow bent into that lock. It's up to everyone else what we do.

You bend with her, keeping her from actually getting the lock in, and as you start to power out, she quickly hooks your ankle and twists, throwing you off her. It doesn't actually deal damage, but it does split you up. And while you're both down and in the process of rising, she does something strange:

Instead of pressing the attack on you, she dives after her fedora, which came off during the tussle on the floor.

...I'm tempted to say 'Shred it on the chainblade'

Or, at least threaten to do so. But it might send her berserk. Wearing it as a taunt is probably a better plan. It might make her reckless. If she slips up, we can take advantage of it. And if she prioritises getting the hat back over her own safety, it could even be a path to the win.
>>
Actually, I feel obligated to ask: are we the type of person who would exploit and exacerbate a crippling psychological weakness just to win a match, the type to give the hat back and try to win, or the type to give back the hat in the hopes of a future favor because it will create good will we can exploit?
>>
>>20909319
I dunno, are we?
Thus far, Yu (that's you) has been pretty nice, which is apparently a contrast to before she lost her memory.

Well shucks, I don't feel comfortable being the one to make that call.

>>
>>20909381
Rip it to shreds
>>
>>20909331

Putting it in perspective though, we now know we can go toe to toe with he and what her limits seem to be as well as a crippling weakness we can exploit IF we need to. I don't know that utterly raping her is necessary anymore, because the minute she exposed that flaw in her strategic thinking was the minute she became less of a threat.

Stomping her face into the mud with it might leave her more dangerous and unpredictable next time, and certainly wanting revenge. This is the long game I'm thinking of.
>>
>>20909392

It might be dumb... But yeah, lets play nice. New Yu being a decent person seems a nice angle to play.

My personal instinct is to wear the hat, but I'm not sure it's what the character would do or that it's the best long term option.
>>
>>20909496
However if no one else does I vote we destroy it.
>>
Hmm... What about just tossing it aside? Not back to her (It might give a stat advantage, after all), but out of the combat zone, and thus out of danger. If she goes for it... We can hit her. If she's smart and focuses on the fight, we've been nice and honest.
>>
>>20909483
Don't give it back to her. I like putting it on and giving it back after the match, but tossing it away is good too. If artifacts can be repaired easily, we should probably destroy it as it'll come back.

>Core Impact occurs when the opponent's weak point is successfully exploited, allowing much greater damage than usual. When you see this, go for broke.

Should we bother activating Armour Piercer? On the one hand, it might be overkill, but its also a nice failsafe just in case she has any defensive abilities we haven't seen yet.

We're going for core impact then, swing for the fences full out. If we have a special ability that ups damage use it here.

And now I go for soda for about five minutes.

Go fucking nuts armor abilities damage the whole nine yards fuck her shit up.

And I must go, my planet needs me.

You rev your blade and chase her, hearing it howl as the armor piercing ability kicks in - or is that the air itself being cut apart as your blade passes through? - and bring it down on her unprotected side...!

- and since people are apparently dropping off everywhere, that's it for tonight. Next week I'm going to try something a little different, starting an hour later (as that's when the traffic picks up) and taking a ten-minute update plan to try and pack more into one thread.

I assume it's never that easy.
>>
>>20909840
Well, the point of a cliffhanger is that you don't know.
>>
>>20909868

Indeed. Or is it merely that you don't know that I know what you know that isn't known by us?
>>
>>20909877
Speaking of things I don't know, there are decisions to be mad about allocations of points. The Mantle pump is now canon and non-negotiable, but the speed/agility/J.Def pumps (at 20 points each) can be discussed, since there was no clear consensus there.

Eh, leave them. It is a decent investment. Its a risk, of course, but she's too high level to take us out of the game, and we've gotten enough goodwill from the club that they might help shore us up, even if we lose we've given the bitch a damn good fight.
>>
>>20909904

I have no clue. I feel like some sort of fight hijacker jumping in like this.

Is there by any chance some system this is run by beyond ideas from the anime?
>>
>>20909925
I do some dice rolls back here behind the screen, but it's mostly down to fightan' tactics.
>>
>>20909969

Hrm. I'm almost tempted to build a system just for Accel World.
>>
>>20909981
Legends of the Wulin actually handles it pretty much fine.
>>
>>20909997

I was thinking of Exalted for some reason, but a lot of people port Exalted into Wulin anyhow.
>>
>>20910044
Because Exalted's mechanics are kind of bad.
Even when you get into the nitty gritty stuff - the Incarnate System can either be pure fluff that separates the Xia from the scrubs or it could be a Transcendant style.
As for things like Scarlet Rain's battleship armor... I believe that's called "switching External".
>>
>>20910071

They aren't THAT bad, but the fluff paints the mechanics into a corner without intending to.

There are some abilities that allow for AoE and various external styles that can handle it. Internal styles can mimic the elemental stuff almost perfectly.
