The Hive-planet of Albiron is a land of cities, marble and piety. The Rogue Trader Dynasty, The Lancelots, have provided much aid to this Chapter. They rule over the City of Spires in Merlin's absence, taking and spreading the word sent from the mighty Grail Fleets.

Of the fleets, they have been servilely damaged, after being trapped in a Warp Storm of Le Fey's devising. Though Merlin eventually managed to best the Daemon Princess' sorcery, many ships had been lost to the Crown Breakers and now they have had to pause their search for The Grail, in order to rebuild their forces. The Citizens of Albion, in response, have started The Grand Tournament, a event in which aspirants from every Hive-level show their skills in battle, strategy and bravery. Only the greatest champions are chosen to ascend past morality and take their place among The Grail Fleets.

(Might I suggest, The Knights of the Iron Blade?)

This is quickly becoming the most absurdly awesome chapter I've made randomly so far.
>>
>>20827449
In regards to the Chapter's structure, I suggest this:
Squires (The Scouts. They are assigned in groups to a Knight, who teaches them the ways of his Company. Some are made to carry his Weapons or the Company standard [or, if the Knight is famous enough, the Banner telling of his deeds] into battle, while others are thrown right into battle.)
Knights (When a Squire has fully matured, he his inducted as a Knight. He is equipped with his personal Iron Blade, a sword he must forge himself and the weapons of his Company.)
True Knights (Those who have performed a great deed are promoted to such. They are given their own banner in their Battle-Barge's halls, dedicated to their deeds.)
[cont...]
>>
>>20827513
Well, I'd say they would.
>>20827515
Yeah, I think that works well. All in favor?
>>
>>20827515
I like Knights of the Iron Star a little better, but I definitely like the way you think.
>>
>>20827513
I'd say yes. They don't go out of their way to get them for the same reason they don't have apothecaries, their pure flesh must not be tainted. But, they see augments to be acceptable alternatives when a limb is removed and cannot be replaces.

>>20827593
Alright. I'd still like to keep the Iron Blade motif in their somewhere.
>>
Actually, why not have them as Knights of the Iron and have each company have an added word to it, such as Star, Path, Blade, Fist, Staff, showing their speciality?
>>
Is their cook the Iron Chef?
>>
>>20827628
I'm imagining the Merlin having a beard of tiny mechadendrites.
>>20827660
I like this idea as well. Iron Beard is the first company obviously.
>>
So, the Knights of the Iron Blade are melee specialists, breaking their enemies with massive charges, while the Knights of the Iron Star are explorers, mapping the stars in search of the Grail. The Knights of the Iron Path are loners, forging ahead of their brothers in an effort to find the Grail first, with the Iron Beards are the oldest of the Companies, following Merlin's divinations. They were hit hardest during The Crown Breakers most recent attack.

I'd say that their are way more than 10 chapters, but their were badly damaged during Le Fey's assault. Some were even wiped out, such was the Crown Breaker's ferocity.
>>
>>20827752
Also makes sense. Man, this is turning even more awesome.

Knights of Merlin (These are the Knights of the 1st company, the Iron Beards. They are each potent psykers, following Merlin's teachings. Stoic in nature, all Squires showing psychic potential are put under their management, defending their masters while they perform their magics.)
Knight Errant (This is the title given to those who have left the Chapter for one reason or another, some to aid the Lancelots and their allies, or to join the Deathwatch under their request of the Inquisitions. This is seen as a wonderful chance to gain allies in finding the Grail and spread word of The Knights of Iron's quest to the other chapters, while performing mighty deeds.)
Knight of the Grail (The Captains of each of the Companies. These Knights have had visions of the Grail and have made significant progress on discovering it's location. A new company is founded when a Knight has these visions. Merlin is the first of these Knights and is the leader of the 1st company.)

So are these guys in silver metallic armor, but with fancy plumes coming out the top of their helms? The heraldry of their company would be on one pauldron (Crossed Swords for the Iron Blades, a Silver Starburst for the Iron Stars, a Sword and Wheel for the Iron Path, etc.)?

Also, the True Knights could have their personal heraldry on the other pauldron.

Yes, the Iron Crusade has turned it's steel to this world and it's glorious 234th company, the Knights of the Iron Sun, have declared their intentions to wipe the xenos from this realm! And I, Rosencrantz the Bard

Now, I shall recount the deeds of their most honourable member, a Knight true in heart and just in deed, Sir Heradon the Great!

~Oh, there once was a place, not far away, where the sun blazed hot in the night and day-"

"What do you mean, "Heard it"? I wrote that this morning during planet fall! I know that's you Guildenstern, you blaggard!"

"You are the blaggard, Rosencrantz! Your voice is like a Squig being sat upon!"

"Well, I am more acclaimed than you are, so how does that make your singing?"

"Unappreciated! I haven't found the right audience yet!"

"See this, ladies and gentleman? A 34th company Bard, of as little talent as the rest of his masters! Tell me, Guildenstern, when did your masters last slay a Hive Tyrant, hmm?"

"You swine! I'll have your bloody eye!"

don't they have no apothecaries.
couldn't that be due to a belief that by enduring and besting the wounds inflicted upon them in battle they will be rewarded by the grail in the end of their quest and instead healed by it alongside the great primarch to stand beside him in the great crusade he will lead on.

"The Sleeping King rests. His son, our father, the Iron Prince, needs to wake as well. Our hearts and bodies are pure. And the Sleeping King wills it."

I think more "royalty" colors, deep purples and blues each knight having their own color scheme and their squires copying it
>>

They need to have some sort of consistent colors, though. Maybe a nice royal purple and they get to design their own tabard/plumage colors?

I like to think of these guys as the Noblebright knight in shining armor ideal Space Marines were supposed to uphold in theory. The reason their chapter is so small is because they are constantly fighting pitched battles against impossible odds in order to save a few pockets of humanity Lamenters style. They see themselves as that last line of defense between humanity and a very hate galaxy and if they aren't sacrificing their lives for humanity, then they don't deserve to call themselves Space Marines. By this token, they are more willing to team up with xenos if it means taking out a larger threat, and they hate CSMs with a passion because they are selfish cowards who would make deals with daemons to preserve their own worthless lives rather than protect humanity as Space Marines were made to do. They also dont really get into the inter-astartes politics much for very much the same reason: no matter who is right or wrong about whatever, they need to continue being the Paladins of Man. Of course, between this and their bizarre manner of speech, they are often relegated to the fringes of the Imperium and have little contact with the other chapters and are often caught between a rock and a hard place in their search for the legendary Lifegrail.

Kinda like voluntary Lamenters meets the romantic ideal of medieval knights with tavern ships, I guess. Thoughts?

"HAVE AT THEE!!". Brother Sargent Anton struck at the heretic's head, his power sword carving it in two effortlessly, but before the body could fall another traitor threw it aside and lunged towards his head screaming heathen obscenities. Brushing the blade aside Anton raised his bolt pitol under his foes chin and fired turning the heathen's head into a fine mist. the sight of two of their own being dispatched in such a quick manner caused the rest of the heretics to pause giving his brothers the chance to open fire upon them and deal with the threat swiftly. Deactivating his power sword he pondered how such a weak and motley group of heretics had managed to wipe out many of the chapters companies. His post battle musings were interrupted by a crackling in his helmet followed by the sound of Brother Victairus's voice. "Any and all brothers respond we are being overrun the heretic scum are about to break through the gates to the citadel. We have civilians taking shelter inside and don't know how long we can hold the traitors off for." "Hold fast brother" Anton replied "We will be there in just a few more minutes". turning to his squad he nodded to them and upon getting one in return he turned and ran in the direction the Citadel the sounds of battle growing ever louder as he approached.

The Noble Armoury is a unique item utilized by The Iron Crusaders. It is a large harness, inscribed with various pictures of a Knight's deeds, and is worn by Squires. The Squires act as a mobile armoury of the Knight's favoured weapons, allowing his master to adapt to any battlefield situation, or combat. The Squire is expected to attend his Knight at all times and are usually equipped with a Bolter or Spear to defend themselves. It is considered greatly dishonourable to touch a Knights weapon's without express permission, so a Squire may be left fending off waves of Genestealers with only an autogun while carrying mighty relics just over his shoulder.

"A Knight's armoury is his very soul! I would rather die than be seen without Hell's Teeth, my trusty chainsword, or Gorgon's Fury, my most favoured Heavy Bolter!" - Sir Kelreach, Knight of the Iron Forge

"To think I carry weapons of such renown, but will forfeit my life if I so much as caress anything other than my shock maul. Let us hope I do not encounter anything bigger than a Grot!" - Unknown Squire

The Knights of the Iron Forge are the armourers of the Iron Crusade. They work tirelessly to create new weapons for themselves and their allies. With good ties to the Mechanicus, their Forge-Barges allow them to produce an near endless supply of armaments. A True Knight of this Order gains his status by forging a particularly potent weapon and putting it to good use, whether it is a mighty chainsword capable of cleaving a Traitor Marine in two or a modified round for a bolt pistol which fills the enemy with deadly poison. Their sign is a silver anvil being stuck by a hammer.

(May I suggest that all Order symbols are silver, to represent their ties to the Chapter?)

Yep.

Perhaps the Knights of the Iron Claws are a bit more bloodthirsty than their fellows and would get on well with the Blood Jaguars. The Iron Blades act like chivalrous warriors, the Iron Claws act like furious crusaders.

I'm interested.
>>
So, is someone going to make a 1d4chan page?
>>
>>20837371
Nice to know.

Well, the thread is Archived. This really doesn't need a 1d4chan page.

A quick summary of the Iron Crusaders:
A fleet based crusading chapter, descended from the Iron Hands. It is lead by Merlin, who acts as both chapter master and chief librarian. They disregard the Codex, instead being comprised of several "Orders", companies filled with Knights of the Iron. Each is lead by a Master of the Order, who has had a vision of The Grail, a mysterious object that the Chapter searches for in order to bring back their beloved Primarch Ferrus Manus and The Emperor, who they commonly refer to as The Sleeping King.

They are proud of the purity of their gene-seed and thus do not allow any Apothecaries into their ranks. While each order has it's own style of operation (The Knights of the Iron Blade are chivalrous warriors, while the Knights of the Iron Path are grand explorers) they subscribe to Shock and Awe tactics, crushing their enemies quickly, so they can continue their quest with great haste.

Their mortal enemies are the Crown Breakers, Traitor Marine Servants of the Daemon Princess of Tzeentch Morgan Le Fey, Merlin's nemesis. Recently, her sorcery cause the Chapter to be decimated, as combined with sudden Warp Storms and combined attacks led to many Orders being badly damaged or destroyed outright. Merlin now seeks the Grail with greater haste, lest Le Fey return to strike again.

The Chapter hails from Albion, a forested Hive City ruled over by their Rogue Trader allies, The Lancelot Dynasty. Merlin sends decrees and orders, the Lancelot's enforce them.

Oh, and for those who don't have it, Honor the Chapter

And Rites of Battle

This is an excellent summary.

Yes!

These are the kind of Space Marines I imagine standing on the prows of their battleships, capes fluttering in the nonexistent wind as they prepare to board a space hulk for some good ol fashioned dungeon crawling.

So we need to determine how they go about fixing the injured and making new marines without an apothecarium.

I assume each brother is trained and at least minimally equipped to collect gene-seed (I always thought this made more sense than having one guy do it).

Maybe the specialty of the Librarium is biomancy? And all their medical needs are handled psychically? Seems dangerous, but interesting.

If the flesh is too weak to mend itself, then we shall replace it with steel! Nothing shall stop the Iron Crusade!
>>
I think it's not that there isn't any apothecarians, but no point to desegnate anyone specifically as such.
Part of their vows would probably include helping the sick and downtroden when and how ever possible. Which would include healing peoples basic injuries.
How to handle the geneseed problem, I don't know.

Just my ideas.

Damn it, I missed the vote! Four was my personal favorite, but three was the runner up. I still don't like red and black, though. Its too overdone.
>>
>>20838497
Fits with Merlin's shapeshifting abilities in Arthurian lore as well. Librarian Apothicaries sounds pretty awesome.
>>
>>20838729
I see it as more of a red and gunmetal.
>>
>>20838765
Battle Clerics!
>>
>>20838765
Agreed! Their stable gene-seed would make this a more viable option as well. And if the injury can't be treated effectively....replace it with iron! They are the succesors of the Iron Hands after all...
>>
>>20838783
Its still a bit too dark and broody looking for a chapter all about being noble swordsmen. They need to have bright, vibrant colors heralding their charge from a distance.

That and it looks to similar to the Black Locks.

Oh shit, almost forgot. If you guys want to play this chapter in DW, you'll need Solo & Squad mode, and a chapter advance tables.

Considering the fluff so far:

SOLO MODE: This Chapter has been trained to spot minute disturbances of the warp pressing in on realspace. This attunement to the empyrean grants the character the Psyniscience Skill as a Trained Skill. The Battle-Brother may also re-roll any failed Willpower Tests to resist a psychic power.

SQUAD, ATTACK PATTERN
Oath of Vengeance, found on pg 33 of Rites of Battle

SQUAD, DEFENSIVE STANCE
Only in Death... pg 33 of Rites of Battle

For Custom Advances, I think Strength of Arms is the best fit., found on page 40 of Rites of Battle
>>
>This Chapter should be called:
The Questors.

I think the Iron Crusade implies questing and adventure pretty strongly.
