Previous thread:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20702555/

You are Gerald DeFlynn. Returning from a successful battle against the Coyotes, you help Eri prepare for her license test. After some last minute coaching, you both head to the ZBC Terminal.
Eri gets cold feet right before the test, but you manage to help her find her confidence. She successfully completes the test with a passing grade.
You celebrate as any couple would, and return to Sidewinder base.

The evening took a much darker tone, however, as you managed to finally get some information about Audrey's former ward.
Later, you coax Vince into telling you how he, Dan, and Kai had got together, and the tragic outcome that followed. You feel it did him a lot of good to get the story off his chest.

The following day, you left for a patrol contract at a nature preserve. The first day passed uneventfully, not so much as sighting the creatures you are charged with protecting.

The second day you finally get a chance to see the endangered animal up close. Risking getting closer on foot, you get some nice shots. Afterwards you flashed a snake(with your camera) and beat feet back to your Red Horn.

You power the zoid back up and continue on your way. The mute pilot in the Gojulas is on radar, but still far behind. Conan's Shield Liger is not currently picking up, he is likely on the opposite side of the preserve.

>What do?
>>
>>20802565
Can we send images remotely? if so beam pics of the cute fluffy rabbits to Eri.

else, see if we can do chess-by-radio with the others on patrol
>>
>>20802587
You unfortunately lack the means to do either
the former because tech is a bit backwards on this planet.
the latter because you do not have a chess kit

continue patrol. I've been thinking about what zoids to get eventually and came up with this list:
Eri: Gun Blaster. (Good long range support option, which seems to fit her personality. We would probably need to add more guns though)
Us: Hyper Fox. (modified Shadow fox, remove the net gun for offensive EW equipment, particularly jammers. Probably more guns too. Dishonorable combat ftw)
Audrey: her pet lion. As an intermediate step we might want to look into copying our mom’s modifications to her zoid.
Vince: Hound Soldier. (Anyone got any good ideas for upgrading this one?)
Seeker: Not really sure, I was thinking he would be our air/water support
Sarah: Not sure here thinking another general combatant. We should rank up, kick her teams butt, then tell her we still have one spot left on our team.
Speaking of ranking up, we should encourage the team to take on individual battles and have a team fight against the sand stingers when we aren’t there, It’ll help give Seeker confidence.
>>
>>20802565
Continue our patrol, keep our eyes on our sensors and around us. Make sure everything is working just fine. Call in occasionally to the others with our location and status to make sure everyone is in the loop.

>>20802621
For Rick I'd like to get him a Raynos if at all possible. It blows the Sinker out of the water in terms of aerial capabilities and how much dakka it caries, it can't swim but that's not a big deal.
>>
>>20802722
I would prefer a battle couger for its ability to also fight on the ground. But yeah, we might want to give him a separate water zoid, like that shark we encountered a while back.

You check in with the station, giving and all clear. You manage to get Conan on the radio.

["Nothing here, Gerald, just a Dontress that went by a few minutes ago."]

"Was it one of the rangers here?"

["Yup, had an identification code and everything."]

"Ever rode one of those?"

["Yes, once. And that was enough."]

Heh. Maybe Jeffry would let you take one for a spin sometime.

You start to say something when you start getting a crackling noise.

["Ah, looks like the signal's getting block by the surrounding hills. Talk to you more later."]

You say goodbye before switching it off. You continue on, occasional stopping to survey with your binoculars. You spot a Dontress heading parallel some distance away from you, but not much else.

>What do?
>>
>>20802931
hail it, make sure it's what we think it is.
>>
>>20802787
Wave, hail it, check its ID numbers and so on. If it's meant to be here it'll talk back, if it's a poacher it might panic.
>>
You sit down and close the canopy. You try to get him on the radio, but see, in the short time you took to do such, he has not only moved out of sight, but off your radar's range as well.
Those things are fast.

You realize that you don't actually know any identification numbers anyway. Still, best call it in.

"This is Gerald, I'm at the Southwest edge of the preserve. Dontress spotted moving Northeast-east. Please advise."

You only get crackling static in response. Are you in a bad spot? Do they not have any towers set up? That seems like a major oversight, but this is a preserve, after all.

>What do?
>>
>>20803116
This is rather strange. I'm suspicious right now.

Follow the Dontress's path, max speed, keep all of our sensors pumped to maximum, keep on trying to regain radio contact, be prepared for hostilities.
>>
>>20803161
this
>>
>>20803161
You try to raise Conan, the Gojulas pilot, anyone really. Nothing but static.

"When communications fail, assume the worst possible scenario." Quoting your father's words, you turn the horn, and making northward..

It's rough going in the horn, but you get on what you believe is the Dontress' path. You head after it steadily, keeping track of your rad-

The radar starts to contort and deform. You can make no sense of it or your map display. You check the radio and are greeted my harsh static screeches. All the signs are layed out for you.

"An EWD."

Something is jamming the area. Possibly an Electronic warfare zoid, or maybe a man portable unit.

Don't follow directly along the path, there's likely to be ambushes. Follow parallel to it, keep our eyes open, don't trust our sensors, keep on looking around, our tremor sensors are likely to be okay so we won't be too bad off. Have guns ready to fire.
>>
>>20802621
Not seeing much disagreement on this.
>>
>>20803441
I want that EWD for reasons...
>>
>>20803492
Finding a Gun Blaster will be hard enough, and it's a bit too slow for my tastes but it's not a bad choice. We'll put it on lower priority.

For us I would like a Shadow Fox or a variant thereof, though a Zeekdober that has been modded to hell and back to make it carry more dakka would work as well. Having a secondary Zoid, something like a Dark Horn would be nice as well. For the times that we need to disregard subtlety and just blow everything to hell.
>>
>>20803536
I'll admit the bit a about it needing more guns was something of a joke...
the zeekdoober might be another option, but it would need more stealth and jamming. Aesthetically I would prefer a panther for a stealth combatant but there aren't any good options. Agree with the dark horn bit.

You realize if you trail him directly, you'll be spotted easily. Hedging south of the trail, you continue down it, occasionally having to search for it if a sudden curve appears.

Advancing deeper into the forest, your Red Horn becomes more and more obstructed. You'll likely not catch up to him, even if he's stopped moving at this point. What you need to do is find out why he headed out this way.

You still have his trail, and with it a general heading. The radio still refuses to work. Hopefully the others realize something is up by this point.

>What do?
>>
>>20803756
Okay, they might not know what's going on and we won't catch up. Fire our cannons into the air, along a trajectory that loosely follows the path and have the shells explode mid air above it if possible, the loudest, flashiest ones we can. We want a fireworks display up there.
>>
>>20803833
You luckily have a Anti air beam cannon that can fire without harming the environment, since the beams are set to dissipate before they can start arcing downward.

You let loose a volley high into the air. You keep it up for a good twenty seconds, even try to spell out words, though that didn't really work. It's a clear day, so no one should have problems seeing it.

The problem is this applies to your quarry as well. They know your on to them now. And if they have any scout type zoids or zoidcraft, they can be on you any moment.

>What do?
>>
>>20803973
Okay, we have other incoming soon, don't follow deeper into the forest, get to a defensible location where we have a good view of the paths to us and hunker down until reinforcements arrive.

Oh fuck yes, Zoid Quest AND Boone Quest? It's like Christmas and my birthday all at once. Rock on ZM.
>>
>>20803973
Right, we're actually not as bad off as we might seem; the Red horn is armed to hell and back and has guns pointing in pretty much all directions. Head for where that Dontress was going and get ready for a fight. I have a feeling we're going to meet our friends from that mine mission thing. You know where they managed to somehow make an entire zoid chop shop disappear in like, an hour. Those dudes.

You decide heading further in now would be a bad idea. So you deviate your course slightly, giving the impression you kept going. You then backpedal, getting to an over crop you passed earlier. Your radar is less then useless, so you'll need to keep a look out the old fashion way.

There are some tall trees close by. You could get a good view from atop one. You could also hide in some bushes on foot and try to jump anyone that goes by.

>What do?
>>
>>20804423
The trees, we have a rifle and we're a good shot, that makes the best use of this. Also we need more info and we won't get that from hiding in a bush.
>>
>>20804452
You get your rifle and pistol, and exit the Horn after making sure it's well concealed. You keep low till you reach the tree, then quickly shimmy up. Tree climbing is not something you have a lot of practice with, but the tree proves generous with its footholds.

Not wanting to make the same mistake twice, you check each branch for snakes, spiders, and any other sort of critters. Thankfully you don't have any problems, just a squirrel scurrying away from you.

You get a steady position with a good view, and wait patiently. You hear him before you see. The Dontress comes zipping down the same path it went. The pilot is having no trouble zipping through the trees on the zoidcraft. You're not sure if you can hit this small of a target going at that speed.

>What do?
>>
>>20804992
Don't bother trying to hit him until we have a sure shot, we'd only be giving away our position. Wait until he stops to look around or slows down.
>>
>>20804992
Don't shoot, it'll reveal our position, won't hit and then he'll just take out the tree we're on or just shoot us.

Try to identify as much about the Dontress as we can in this short time, armaments, size, insignia, pilot skill.

Keep an eye on him, ready to fire if he slows down or otherwise makes an attractive target of himself.
>>
>>20805026
You keep you gun leveled as the zoidcraft draws near. He is about 200 yards away when he slows down, probably looking at your tracks more closely. Still not quite slow enough, though.

The Dontress has no modification to its weapons, just its two claws and beam gun set. You think you see an insignia for the rangers in charge of the preserve, but you don't know how much you can trust it.

The pilot's suit tells the same story, same coloration and insignia. You can't tell if he's got any weapons on his person or not.

It's slowing down further now. You could hit the craft, maybe even the pilot. You think he's noticed your Red Horn further away, though you hid it as best you could.

>What do?
>>
>>20805224
We don't have enough proof that he's a poacher to justify turning his head into a fine red mist.

But it's risky to not do anything and let him find the Horn or continue with whatever he's doing. So aim for the craft, attempt to disable it.
>>
>>20805266
Yeah, could be an actual ranger investigating the ECM field. At this point, I'd say go for the Dontress; if it's a bad dude, he'll be out his primary weapons and we'll have our gun trained on him next. If it's a real ranger, well... easier to ask for forgiveness than get permission, as the saying goes.
>>
>>20805266
>>20805315
You take a deep breath, and aim at the front of the zoid craft, should knock it down at least, and not much chance of injuring the pilot. Provide that suit offers as much protection from falls as it looks.

You squeeze the trigger, just as he backs slightly to move around a rock. The Dontress jerks to a stop, and hurls the rider in a humorous looking arc. You subconsciously lament not having a video camera.

The man and zoid craft tumble separately, the machine shutting down and lying stationary.
You hear the man groan and he picks himself up slowly. He doesn't seem to fully comprehend what just happened.

>What do?
>>
>>20805485
Keep the rifle trained on him, climb down the tree, approach him and hail him. Ask who he is, what he knows, where he's been.
>>
>>20805512
This, but without getting out of the tree. Why should we? He can't win, we have the high ground!
>>
>>20805512
>>20805582

"Hands up!" you bellow from you overlook. He jumps as he connects the dots and raises his hands.

"Hey, hey, easy man!" he frantically pleads. "Don't shoot!"

"I'm still debating that course of action." you dryly inform him. Need to try and confirm their identity before you do anything else.

"Yeah, really."

"What's Jeffry's last name?"

"What?"

"His last name, what is it?"

"It's, uh, Wallace?"

"Stieneback."

"So tell me," you begin.

"-UUUCK!"

"You done?"

He gasps for air raspily. "Hate you so much."

"I gathered. Why do you got a ranger Dontress and uniform, 'Ralph'?"

"Why should I tell you?" he barks back angrily.

"Because," you explain coldly, "This in my hand here? This an number 3 model AZ Imperial. It can punch through even medium sized zoid armor. If I aim it right, I can surgically remove your extremities one by one, starting with your arms."

You pause as he looks up in your direction. His face is covered, but he can't hide his trembling.
"And you know something, Ralph?"

"Y-yeah?"

"I am a very, very good shot."

"Okay, okay! I give!"

"I figured. Start talking."

"We snuck into the station and stole the Dontresses and suits. We set up some traps for those stupid hares, we're gonna come back later and and collect them then bug out."

"Get the hares and the Dontresses." you say thoughtfully. "What's jamming the radio?"

"What?" he stutters, confused.

"Do not say 'what' again, Ralph, what is jamming the radio?"

"I-I don't know, I didn't even know it was jammed."

"How could you not?"

"My radio worked fine earlier.

"...really now."

"Yes sir."

"That was rhetorical."

>What do?
>>
>>20806340
Well, that's bad, with the jamming.

"How many people you got in this outfit of yours? How many Dontresses have you acquired? Where are you centered?

Keep on talking Ralphy boy and I'll just knock you unconscious and tie you up somewhere funny."
>>
>>20806340

"We may have a third party in this group. Your boys may be in as much trouble as I am. Someone is jamming the radio. If its not you, and I know its not me, then we both might be in trouble. Tell me what are your boys packing?" We should point to the gun. "And tell the truth, its much easier to remember."
>>
>>20806374
"I don't know, I never even met any of these guys till today, I was promised easy money. There was only 4 of these things locked up, so three more?"

"When's the last time you used that radio?"

"A few minutes ago." he said. "I told them I was going to look when I saw that light show."

"Very good, Ralph, now turn around. Put your hands on that tree." He complies. "Now, do me a favor and knock yourself out."

"...Huh?"

"Bang your head on the tree till you pass out."

"Why do I-"

You cock the rifle's chamber. "There is always the alternative."

He immediately starts hitting his head against the tree. You chuckle a bit as you begin climbing down, listening to the sound of him hitting his head repeatedly.

Naturally, he doesn't succeed, what with his helmet cushioning the blows. You walk up and relieve him of his toil with a swift but to the back of his head.

You search him and quickly find his radio. As you thought, it's some high grade military model, probably prevents the frequency from being jammed.

>What do?
>>
>>20806628
Run back to the Red Horn, listen to the radio see if we can hear any other communication. Consider using the radio to call the preserves base, although this is risky.
>>
>>20806628
See if we can connect the radio to the Red Horn's system.

See if we can bounce the radio waves as a form of sonar with our equipment to find out where his friends are. The radio device giving us the right frequency.

And if we can't do that just listen in on the radio.
>>
Fuck yes Zoids Quest.
>>
>>20806743
(sorry to disappoint, this is the part where I take an annoyingly long brake. ain't sleep a bitch?)

You head back to the Red Horn with radio in tow. You jurryrig it into the Horn's sensors as best you know how. You get some clarity back, but the display's still distorted.

You key in some commands, and redirected the radar to try and back trace the source of the jamming. It's blurry, but you get something about fifteen miles north east of your position.

"There you are."
You then realize the source is on the move. So it was a zoid after all. You're willing to bet that whoever's in it is the mastermind behind this whole mess.

Time to go save the bunnies.

You decide to move on in the Red Horn. You'll have to play with the Dontress later. Marching forward, you give the downed zoidcraft a stomp for good measure, making sure Ralph isn't going anywhere if he wakes up.

Following the estimate trail of the Dontress, and moving toward the other zoid's position, you close in on it.

After about a half hour of trudging through the forest and occasional grass field, you stumble onto something. A trail cut through the surrounding flora. Everything is dead and eaten away. You see a few animal corpses, halfway dissolved.
"That bastard." you growl. He's using an acid sprayer, designed to act as anti infantry and light fortification weapon. He's turned it on the wildlife, just to make his path easier.

You try to find some elevation. Once you do, you switch on the radio, trying to get in touch with the others.

"This is Gerald. Come in base."

There's some scratchy static, but you start making out some words.

["-er-d. Gerald! Do you hear me?"] Conan says frantically.

"I'm here, Mr Walker."

["What the deuce happened, man? I've been trying to reach you for thirty minutes. And anyone else, for that matter."]

"Sorry man, radio's jammed. I got a special transmitter off of someone. They stole the rangers' gear and zoidcraft. Whoever's behind this has got free reign over the whole preserve."]

["Damn! This is a disaster!"] he blurts out. He takes a breath to regain some composure.
["Gerald, as long as this jamming continues, I can't help you. Can you track the source?"]

"Yeah, he left a nice little trail for me."

["Alright, good man. I'll do what I can from here. Be careful."]

You thank him and recheck the radar and trail. You bound through the trail, hoping to make some use of the destruction, at the very least.

The trail comes to an abrupt halt, far sooner than you expected. He must have stopped when he got wise about you. You reexamine
the radar to get a idea where he is again, and-

"..oh, come on! That's just not fair!"
>>
>>20815264
The signal has been replaced by three. Three separate signals, all in different directions. Did he realize you were tracking him somehow? One of these is him, the other two decoys. False signals to throw you off. Hell, for all you know, they're all fake.

One is north of here, another south, and the last is straight east. You don't have much choice but to pick one.

>North
>East
>South

>>20815288

>>20815402
North heads more into the mountains. He might be using them to hide.

East bring him deeper into the preserve. Nothing of note that distinguishes from your current location. There is a river nearby though.

South takes him closer to the border. Since it borders the desert, things start getting a bit more arid and dry, though still roughly the same as the rest of the preserve. It would put him rather close to the station, though.

You try the radio again. It's a bit clearer now, probably because more focus is being put on confusing you. You manage to get both Jeffry and Conan this time.

"I got a signal some ten miles from the station. It's vague, but can anybody check it out?"

["I'll get over there right now!"] Jeffry shouts back. He sounds livid. ["Club my boys and take our gear, I'll fix 'em!"]

["Jeff, don't do anything reckless, please."] Conan pleads.

["Shaddup! I'm an old man, it's fine to be reckless sometimes."]

["If you say so. I'll try and get to where you are headed."]

Having decided to ignore the southern signal for now, you head east, deeper into the preserve. You try not to make a mess of the environment, but at this point, collateral damage is a given.

Ignoring the radar after you decide the initial heading, you make your way through the trees and hills, trying not to head straight for him in case an ambush has been laid. No obvious trail so far.
You need to find his trail somehow.

>What do?
>>

Hmmm.... I'm not sure what we can do to find his trail, other than looking for broken/bent trees and other signs of passage. Honestly, if we get to where he's been and don't find anything, then it's probable that it was a decoy, since his passage should have left at least some trail. If that's the case then head north.
>>
>>20815988
Look for any broken branches, footprints, signs of concealment, that sort of thing.
>>
>>20816090
You check for any sign of broken tree limbs, overturned stone, fuck off huge prints in the ground, the works. You find none of these.

You curse your luck. You may very well have gone to the wrong signal. You could try and circle around the area, in case he had gone a roundabout way, or just abandon this spot for another.

>What do?
>>
>>20816347
Don't abandon it just yet, if he did take this path and we abandon it we're going to feel like complete dumbasses. Follow the path, check along routes that he could have taken in this direction, circle a bit.
>>

Circle around just in case, but try to do so in a way that brings us closer to the northern signal. Also see if we can get Conan to take the southern one.

You circle around, bearing north. Soon you've covered over half a circle. Still nothing.
Damn it!

You check the radio again.
["The south end was a bust, kid."] Jeffry informs you. ["Heading north now."]

"Heading north on what?"

["My Dontress. I keep my baby locked up separately."]

You'll have a little backup, at least. "Thanks, Jeff, need some coordinates?"

["If you'd feel so obliged."]

You bring up the radar again. Three signals are still visible, one fairly close to you. You check on the north most one and-

The north signal is no longer moving. The other two are still actively changing location, but this one is now still.

Whelp.

After giving him the general coordinates you beat feet towards the northern signal. Even on his Dontress, you'll arrive first. You try to keep an eye out for any traps that he might have set for you, but you still keep at a fairly quick pace.

You reach an overlook just before the mountain base, and take a look over the trees.

You spot two Godos zoids equipped with mining components. They're digging into the mountainside. A little to the side, you spot the source of your aggravation. The Dimetrodon.

These things are rare these days, but they're rather modern, none the less. The arsenal's similar to your own, and the specs aren't far off from a Red Horn's either.

In a straight fight, the advantage should go to you, but you don't know what sort of tricks he might pull. Even your dad never fought against any EW zoids

Two things. First of all, I'm diggin the new stat pic layout. Second, the ECM is provided by the spines on its back, much like the Gordos' sensor arrays. Ergo, I suggest we use a little bit of OOC knowledge and aim for those first, hopefully before he's aware we're here. Fire every forward facing gun we've got at the Dimetrodon's spines, is my suggestion.

I say we err on the side of caution for this and take away his greatest strength first.

So, what's the range on our AZ Rifle?

If this guy is in our range....why not put a round through the canopy?

Dirty? Yes. Effective? Hell yes. Because with a solid hit, you accomplish one of three things.

1) Death of the pilot. Self-explanatory here.

2) Wounding of the pilot. With not only shock and disorientation from the hit, his combat efficiency is going to be severely curtailed.

3) Disorientation of the pilot. An AZ round just smashed through his canopy, possibly grazing him, definitely showering him with debris, and possibly damaging control surfaces. His ability to defend himself is going to be curtailed, and he should be easy pickings.

After all, an AZ rifle that can punch through medium-zoid armor should be more than capable of punching through the canopy of a zoid.

Take a close look at that things cockpit. It's almost as protected as yours. Sadly your rifle wouldn't be able to damage it, save the eye cameras

You take aim, and let loose with a three round burst and a shot from your missile pod for good measure. That fin's a big target, but you took your time and aimed well. You hold your breath in anticipation...

And watch all your shots wiz by the Dimetrodon harmlessly. Your startled by a crackling noise as your com brings up a forced direct channel.

["Seriously?"] a mechanically altered voice taunts. ["Did you seriously think you could just shoot me?"]

Shit, your targeting system! He's even messing with that. You can compensate by shooting manually. It'll be harder to hit anything like that, but it's better than automatically missing every time.

Your thoughts are interrupted by a system warning. Missiles headed your way. At least that still works.

You instinctively get the Red Horn moving even before he finishes his line. They have tracking capabilities, but you get out of the way quickly enough for them to impact on ground harmlessly.

["So the chum has some moves. Alright, I'll play with you a bit."]

You notice something coming up behind you. It's another Dontress, but this one is colored differently.

(I think your confusing your stats with Eri's, she got 2 points a few threads ago, one from coaching, one for leveling up. you all voted to buff her manuv. and crc, Gerald has yet to increase his crc beyond 2)

You let loose as you charge closer, letting loose all your guns. You have to do all the aiming yourself, and while he evades some shots, a missile and linear laser find their mark, knocking the zoid about and cracking his armor.

The Dimetrodon returns fire with its beam cannons, but they mostly glance off your thick armor.

"Use up all your missiles?" you jeer.

["Funny. Get a little closer and see how well you fair."]

"'Kay."

["What?"]

Now in the clearing, you barrel straight for him, horn lowered.

["Wait, what are you doing?"]

"I'd say it's pretty obvious." you smirk, the now open ground allowing you to quickly reach your top speed. He tries to back away, but finds himself cornered by the thick flora to his back.

["No, stop! Stay back!"] he sputters frantically.

"Talk to the horn."

You crash into his side, launching the Dimetrodon into the air, despite it being much heavier than you. The horn cracks open the magnite alloy like a nut shell.
Dino damage.

(Godos are still digging)

You go to finish the job when you are struck by several beams. No damage, but there's quite a few hitting you. You look for the source and see two Dontress heading for you. Their small beams can't hope to pierce the Horn's armor, but those claws might cause some problems.

Before you can decide what to do, though, Jeffry bursts out of the foliage on his red hot zoidcraft. He banks and slides up to ones side and just ...decks the rider with a back hand, knocking him off.
You have to admit that looked pretty damn awesome.
["I got these amateurs. Get the big one!"]

You bring your Tri Linear gun around to do just that. You then see that he has already gotten up.

You attempt to aim at his fin but he clamps down on the side of your frill with his jaws. The Dimetrodon has a surprising amount of power, and pushes your front of the ground. Your aim is spoiled for the moment.

You spray his side with pressurized Sulfuric acid. It cuts into the casing, and milliseconds later, the acid eats through the remaining material. Sparks surge out from the damaged cord.

["What? No, what have you done?"]

You fire your Linear cannon methodically, and bring them both down. That finished, you turn your attention to the Dimetrodon. Asking Jeffry to open the canopy, you watch from the Red Horn, guns trained.

He opens it, releasing some black smoke. He reaches inside, and pulls someone out, laying them on the ground. It's a woman, to your surprise. Her green hair would have been tied in two ponytails, but now they're frizzed into separate charred puffs.

You open the canopy and speak to them directly.
"What do you have to say for yourself?"

"Peh-ah..." your captive answers, a trace of smoke exiting her mouth.

"Jeff, can you do any first aid?"

"A little." he replies, retrieving a canteen from his waist, and plugs it into her mouth. She coughs from the water forced down her throat.
"Got to try and get some of that smoke out of the lungs."

After some choking and gagging, she spits the water out.

You thank him and get a look at your radar. You can't determine what's buried here. You could always get out and look.

You can only see dirt. You go over your sensors again. At fist you get nothing, then you flip on your Infrared. Right in the middle of the crevice is a very pronounced signature.

It's just under the surface. Some kind of material that's giving off a faint energy signature. And there's a whole lot of it.

"True. Don't worry about the guys we caught, I tied em up good."

He starts digging into the dirt with the zoidcraft's claws.

"So what's up with that Clash guy? Is he mute?"

"Not exactly." Jeffry explains. "He can talk, just not over a radio."

"What? Why not?"

"He's got one of those artificial voice boxes." The other man explained, tapping his throat for emphasis. "It let's him speak, but the frequency doesn't get picked up by receivers very well."

"Never met a guy with one of those." you say.

"Not many are lucky enough to live through the injury that'd make it necessary."

A faint glow catches your eye, near the claws of the Dontress.
"Hey, Jeff, stop!" you quickly say. "What is that?"
He quickly halts and moves slightly away. You see a brilliant dark blue glow coming out of the ground.
"Holy crap, is that Zoid Magnite?"

"Up here?" he says, puzzled. "Isn't that stuff always deep underground, or in volcanoes?"

"Might have been forced up to the surface when the asteroids hit."

This is some pretty valuable stuff. Judging by the amount, you could easily make a few zoid cores big enough to power heavy models, maybe even super heavy zoids like an Ultrasaurus.

You notice some movement in the trees opposite of you. You tense for an instant, until you see the Gojulas come into view.

"Hey, Clash." you greet. The zoid waves its claw.

"Well, if the pocket isn't too big, we could go ahead and get it out of the ground, so there won't be a repeat to this." he says as he forces the canopy of a Godos open.
"If not, we'll just have to bury it so no one can r-"

A beam hits the Godus, causing it to erupt into an explosion. Jeffry yells as he's thrown by the blast.

"Jeff! AURG!" you cry out as you are heavily rocked in your seat. You frantically search for who was responsible for the attack when your rear display comes up.

It's the Gojulas. Its fearsome maw is clamped down on your linear cannon.
"Clash, what the hell are you doing?!"

The only answer you get is having your cannon brutally torn off. The shock to the system has your console spark dangerously.

For a fleeting moment, you think you'll be able to right the Red Horn and keep fighting. That moment passes, and the console fails. The Red Horn slumps to the ground. Several beams strike the head of your zoid. You are alarmed, but realize you are unharmed.

You watch him head toward the crevice, turning perpendicular to it. With a mighty swipe of his tail, he smashes part of the stone structure that blocked the magnite deposit.
He faces the ground, and lowers his head, his huge jaw acting as a makeshift industrial scoop.

His jaw tightly shut, he raises up and starts walking away.
"Hey! HEY!" you shout angrily, as you work the console feverishly. He damaged your radio and radar antena. You can't reach Walker.

"Where do you think you're going!?" you shout over the speaker. The Gojulas stops, then faces you. The canopy opens up, and you see a man, old and scared. Half of his lower jaw is missing. He reaches up to a metal plate on his neck.

<I suppose you are confused right now.>

"Damn right, who the hell are you?"

<I am Clash Bedlam, as advertised.> He scratches his chin, thoughtfully.
<It would appear my decoys were not as useful as I hoped. No matter, they lured the biggest threat to me away.>

So that was it. It wasn't about poaching in the first place. He just wanted the Zoid magnite.

<I am feeling, generous, so I will let you live. I've only lost what I've stolen, after all.>

"Hey, don't forget about me!" the girl from the Dimetrodon yells, sitting up in her bonds. "You can't just leave me here!"

He glances to her.
<Indeed, you know a bit more than those idiots running around here. I can't have you being questioned.>
He pulls out a long barreled pistol and holds it up.

"W-what are you doing?" she says with wide eyes.

<Tying up loose ends.> There is no emotion in his mechanical voice, and just as emotionlessly, he pulls the trigger.
Blood spurts from her chest, and she falls over. Without another word, he closes his canopy and moves on.

Motherfucker.

Restart the Red Horn, get our system back online. We need to invest in anti-freezing mechanisms.
>>
Were faster then his shitty zoid. We need to restart the red horn and hunt this fucker down.

Radio in the Liger, if the radio still works.
>>
rolled 48 = 48

use the portable radio we just picked up to call this all in. rush to her first aid then
>>
You remember the portable radio you secured earlier, you switch it on as you rummage for the first aid kit.

"Walker! Do you here me?"

["Gerald?"] he seems to notice the anger in your voice. ["What is it, I'm still tracking that last-"]

"Forget him!" you cut off. "Clash betrayed us. He knocked out my Red Horn and hit Jeff too! He's getting away!"

You open the canopy while he absorbs the information.
["...I'm on my way. Which way did he head?"]

"South east."

["That's toward the river...shit, he can go in the water!"]

"Can you get him?" you ask as you touch the ground.

["I don't really know. I'll try to head him off, but I might not make it. Can you patch your zoid up?"]

"Maybe, first I have some people to patch up."

["Alright, good luck."]

You put the radio away.
"Jeff! You okay?"

"I've...had...worse." he groans some distance away.

"Good man." You sprint to the girl. Blood has pooled on the ground in front of her, though it isn't that big yet.

"Hey, you still with me?"

Her head ever so slightly shifts.
"h-elp..me..." she pleads.

You set your med kit down and start taking out articles you'll need.
"Just hang on."

"don wanna die...don wanna die." she sobs.

(just wanted some description)

You check her back side. The bullet didn't go through, which may actually help her survive.
"You're not going to die." you assure as you take off your shirt and tear it. You bundle the gauze you have and poor some disinfectant on it before pressing it against the hole in her chest.

She winces and stifles a scream. Holding it in place, you wrap your torn shirt around her waist and secure it, wrapping around a few extra times for good measure.

"How's your breathing? Can you breath well?"

"I..think theirs blood in my lung.." she weakly states with a cough.

You attempt to turn her, so she can breath more comfortably. She settles down some, though she is still hysteric.

"I'm getting too old for this shit." Jeffry grumbles behind you. He pulls his helmet off as he nears.

"You sure you're alright?"

"I'm the one who was wearing armor. I radioed for help, should have some paramedics here soonish."
He pulls off his gloves and kneels down. "I'll stay with the girl."

"Thanks, Jeff, you're a hell of a guy."

"Ha! Don't I know it."

You get up and head for the zoids.

Even though the Dontress is faster it couldn't do more than scratch the paint on the Gojulas. The Red Horn ought to catch up and slow the Gojulas down enough. How long should it take to get the Red Horn back online?
>>
how salvageable is the red horn and the Dontress
we need to be able to get the horn going quick enough to catch the godos otherwise we have to use the bug.
>>
>>20831869

Fix up the Red Horn ASAP.

You can fix it enough to move in about ten minutes.
However, he tore off the Linear cannon, and the missile pod on top of that. You are not able to fix that.
It's not really any better armed than the two Godos right now.

The Dontresses around you are not badly damaged.
The Godos that didn't get its head blown off is in decent condition. It has a piledrive fixed to it, as well as its standard fixed guns
>>
>>20832044

Grab the zoid we can fix up faster.
>>
>>20832044
The Dontresses will catch up soon enough, but even it's melee weapon won't do anything to the Gojulas. Same with the Godos. The Red Horn at the very least has the Horn which with 94 tons of raw dino power behind it ought to be able to fuck up the Gojulas.
>>
>>20832125
Seconding- take what can actually be effective. Assuming we have the time, of course. If he can make it away in the time it takes to get the Red Horn online grab something else.
>>
You grab your tools and get to work. Feeling motivated, you work without pause, soon repairing the Red Horn's circuitry. You hop into the cockpit.

You start it up, and it roars fiercely.
"You're angry too, huh? Alright then, let's show that bastard."

To be continued.
>>
>>20832383
Are, are we bonding with our Zoid? We're nowhere near Audrey in that sense but we're bonding. Not all we need to do is introduce that slow ass Gojulas to 94 tons of Dino Power.
>>
>>20832570
You realize he's got roughly 60 tons on you, right?
>>
>>20832637
I thought Gojulases were above 200 tons.

Yeah. It's not a good fight for us, our best guns are gone so our most damaging weapon involves using CQC, which we suck at.

On the bright side we just need to slow him down long enough for 92 tons of Shield Liger to show up, we're faster, and his mouth is occupied.
>>
>>20832637
Our horns a power weapon, we're angry, and we're out for blood. His cockpits getting speared.
