That time again /tg/! Time to venture back in time to a land of fantasy, magic, adventure and... Copper tools. Well, everything starts somewhere. It's Civilization Quest time!

Our previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20711760/
But due to a suggestion in the last thread, here's a link to everything we've achieved so far! http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

The shrine to Groza is at last completed, standing proudly in the ground where the tribe won its first victory. The god of battle will surely be pleased!

The Wise Ones delve more into researching new methods of treating the wounded and sick. Although they as yet make no breakthroughs scientifically, Rina cheerfully reports one day that by praying to Chani and channelling a portion of her power, she is able to cleanse and cure some minor injuries and diseases!

Taking every one of the seeds you gathered last fall, the tribe sows them outside the village, scattering them onto the earth. Maybe this year, the harvest will be good enough to actually provide some food for the village!

The new carts make gathering lumber much easier, especially from the surrounding forest. The tribe manages to clear more and more area, stacking the logs inside the walls. There's so many in the enclosed space, it's hard to keep them out of the way!

The tribe starts working on a crude walkway along the top of the walls and manages to get about halfway. The construction is ramshackle, but it looks like it'll stand up well enough.

The tribe trains before Groza's shrine, a few of them giving offerings to the god. No-one is particularly skilled yet though, especially as everyone also has their mundane lives and concerns. These are not trained soldiers; just tribesfolk with spears.

Your wise ones agree that the tribe's shields could use work and put their minds to the problem. Soon, they have created a prototype that's quickly put into general use. The new shield is slightly lighter, but an animal hide stretched over the frame and slightly improved handles make it easier to wield.

Your scouts set out to investigate the tribe on the other side of the river, but have an unusual encounter on the way...

EVENT
On the way to the enemy village, just a few hours from the river, your party of scouts walk headlong into a group coming in the opposite direction! After a few stunned seconds, the other party lets out a war cry and charges the scouts, sending them running for their lives! The half-dozen scouts are massively out-numbered by roughly forty armed men with the same face-markings as the hostile tribe. For the most part, the enemy look like they're using the same copper axes and spears they were when they attacked the village before. This time however, several of them were carrying large bags that the scouts have no clue what could be inside of.

The scouts manage to out-distance their pursuers and make it back across the river in time! The tribe has maybe an hour or less before they get here! What does the tribe do?
A) Evacuate everyone and head for the forest
B) Send only the elderly and the children away, while the rest fight
C) Head across the river and attack the enemy before they reach the village
D) Pray to the gods (pick one or more) for guidance and strength
>>
>>20736451
[btw, can you give us a map, Brit?]
What the hell could be in those bags? Explosives?

Anyway, is there enough time to pray to Groza and organize an ambush at the river?
>>
>>20736451
B) is the only honorable thing but we did please gonza so D) could really help us out.
>>
>>20736451
D. Pray to them all, but specifically Groza. He foretold of this battle happening when he first entered our village and with his blessing we shall be victorious!

(I am interested as shit to see what Hrunti offers as a blessing, really. We haven't seen his yet.)

Also, dem bags. Please, please, please don't be a horrible way of culling our massive population boost.
>>
>>20736451

D) Hrunti and Groza
then B)
>>
>>20736451
Pray to Groza for strenght, and Chani for swiftness. Then climb up on the wallwalk and ready your bows and spears.
>>
D let's get the blessing from Hunti and Groza.

The kids can resupply the archers and do other errands that need to be done.
>>
>>20736451
B) Send only the elderly and the children away, while the rest fight

It's a little soon, but we've built this place up too much to allow them to burn it to the ground. Have to hope that building up our walls and stuff was worth it.
>>
>>20736509
D) then B) is my vote
>>
>>20736509
Sending the elders and kids out into the forest seems like a bad idea to me, honestly. Last time we held them at the gate and now our walls are slightly more badass. Plus we'd run the risk of the elders and kids getting merc'd.
>>
>>20736534
i don't want to risk the children.
>>
>>20736711
Tribe loses they will get hunted down killed anyway. I would rather them be here to prevent that/have them help as much as possible/die together instead of alone.
>>
Think of the children!
>>
Pray to chani, hrunti and gorza

And

Meet the enemy at the river.

Chani might give us an edge there
>>
>>20736740
The children they are our future
>>
>>20736475
The map really hasn't changed since last time... It was only last thread, or the one before that where I posted it last...

>>20736534
The villagers close the gates that were re-built during the upgrades to the walls, before praying to the gods for aid in the coming fight. There are no immediate signs of the gods' favour, but morale is raised by the act. Rina begins her prayers to Chani and the effect is more noticeable, those around her feeling strong and lithe. Before anything further can be done though, the enemy are at the walls! The tribe rushes to the new ramparts with bows, but the enemy are readying some new kind of weapon. Some of them have brought shields as well, though not as advanced as ours.

The enemy's new weapon appears to be a ball of some kind of tangled vegetation, tethered to a length of cord. Suspicion turns to alarm when the enemy open jars and dip the balls in, drawing them out and setting them ablaze with a torch! Once this is done, they whip it around their heads, spinning it to build up speed, then release and send the whole affair flying through the air! The enemy advance with these weapons and their atlatls, hiding behind their shields to protect from the arrows.

How will the tribe respond? The new weapon seems mostly out of range at this distance, though the atlatls do strike a small handful of the defenders on the walls.
A) Loose arrows at the attackers and try to keep them out of range
B) Charge out and try to take the enemy hand-to-hand
C) Get half the tribe ready to fight fires, while the rest focus on loosing arrows
>>
>>20736763
A) is what I said we should do
>>
>>20736763
I did not see that coming, thought I probably should have. They have a source of pitch somewhere. Shiiit. I'm gonna need to think on this one.
>>

A)
>>
>>20736763
A) Keep loosing arrows until they manage to catch up at least
>>
A but have the women quench fires
>>
>>20736763
A. it is then. In hindsight, better bows was a good idea.
>>
>>20736799
Is there any way we can fight them closer to the river even if we have to push them back.
>>
>>20736763
We must wear them out and prevent their atlatls from getting closer to our walls. We should send out fighters with shields to slow them down while out archers pick them off from our walls. Also, have women to quench out the fires, where they happen
>>
Hold up. There are only 40 attackers, correct? Send out most of our men to attack them head on. That'll draw most of them into hand to hand and thus leave their fire throwers vulnerable to our archers because you can't hold a shield, light and throw fireballs.

We'll lose men, sure enough, but it's better than losing our village to a fire. And hell, while thats going on, why not have the older children and elders attempt to put out fires?
>>
>>20736872
Great idea. I wish I had refreshed a minute before submitting my own idea because now it's just redundant, lol.

>>
>>20736892
To be honest your idea seems better thought out, I completely forgot about their numbers. Since we have more men than they have, your idea is ok
>>
Now what did I tell you guys about bows?
>>
>>20737006
I rather have better shields for the protection in hand to hand combat.
>>
>>20737006
The shields are good too, since they are better than our opponents'. Not to mention their usefulness against the atlatls
>>
The tribe prepares to charge forth, opening the gates and a good number of the warriors leaving by them, clutching spears and shields, eager to come to grips with the enemy.

Seeing the attack coming, the enemy re-aligns. The fire-throwers light up and hurl their charges at the walls. Several bounce straight off, tumbling away. A few lay at the base of the wall, the flames licking at the wood and a handful sail straight over and into the village! As the elder of the children hurry to fight the small blaze the weapons start, the attackers make a full-on retreat for the forest, the men with shields backing up too, though a little slower, staying between the tribe's spearmen and their retreating fire-throwers.

How will the tribe respond?
A) Pull back and focus on the fires
B) Pursue the enemy into the trees
C) Other
>>
If we are fallowing josh's plan then what letter are we voting for?
>>
>>20737063
I wanna get that pitch I say B) peruse ,but it could be a trap.
>>
>>20737063

sounds like a trap
i say we wait for them to come back
>>
>>20737063
Hold our spearmen in positions, as well 1/4 of the archers. The other half should get right on with fighting the fires. The archers that stay on their posts will warn the others in case the enemy comes back.

In case they won't come back in like 30 minutes - 1 hour, send everyone to fight the flames.
>>
Once this battle is over we need to make longbows and murder them from 200 yards away.
>>
>>20737115
Aren't longbows quite the stretch? We're in the copper age after all, the most we can aim for are composite bows
>>
>>20737136
I agree with anon
>>
>>20737063
Do we have a second entrance to our village by chance? I say we attempt to sneak 20 men outside the back way staying hidden in the trees while we have everybody else go back inside and fight fires. Keep the archers on the walls while this is going on.

Those twenty men will hopefully be able to get into a position to block any escape if the enemy decides to attack again. If this is at all possible, I mean.
>>
>>20737112
This is the best course of action.
>>
>>20737136
They have found intact longbows from as far back as 2665 BC. We should be able to make them, the only way our current type of metal affects it is it will take longer to make and will have less penetrating power. Recurve bows could be the step between the bows we have now and longbows.
>>
I think they are going to return in greater numbers.
>>
>>20737218
They might, but unless they reproduce as fast as we do, and they might, 40 sounds like the best they can do considering we killed/captured 40 last time and they only had 80 to 90 people before that.
>>
With that you have been playing longer then I have and you make a good point.
>>20737136 this idea is pretty good I say we do it.
>>
Most of the archers stream down off the walls and help in putting out the few fires in the village. Water is poured down from the walls likewise, to smother those flames at the base of the walls. Before long, the crisis is over, though some houses may need roof repairs.

The enemy warriors do not return and it looks like the day is the tribe's! The 'battle' though can hardly be described as such. Two dead bodies were found of the enemy, with one more wounded and trying to crawl away, before he was captured. On the tribes side, two died, but most were protected by the wall. One of the elders was also killed when a burning roof fell on her.

The wise ones start to work on new and better bows for the tribe, but the progress is slow, They're not sure when they'll have anything to show for their efforts.

The wounded enemy is treated before being hauled off to interrogation by Rina, one of the wise ones and a trio of tribesmen with spears. Using Chani's gift, Rina is able to translate for the tribe, although poorly. She says this is because Chani has only heard a little of their language herself. The hostage seems defiant, unwilling to answer questions.

Torture the fucker, cut one finger for every answer he refuses to give. After we're done with him, kill him.

We need to wipe out the copper tribe, it's clear that they will keep the unprovoked aggression until we cave in. We must not let that happen, the safety of our people is the top priority
>>
>>20737877
Chop off a few fingers. Shouldn't kill him but will hurt like hell and maybe get his tongue wagging.
>>
Off goes one ball. Then a leg. Then an arm. Then an ear. He is half a man and he deserves to appear as one.
>>
>>20737924
finger chopping mind
>>
With all of these violent answers towards this prisoner, I hope to god we completely eradicate his people because they will probably not soon forget this if we don't.
>>
>>20737943
I'd go with this. Others are a bit too extreme for my liking. And we can't patch him up very well yet, so he'll likely die from other forms, unless we beat him with clubs or something.
>>
>>20737992
Can we cauterize wounds? If so, after each chop/slice/whatever we can cauterize the wounds, so they won't get infected AND it hurts like hell.
>>
>>20737951
All on one side
>>
>>20737990
Hell, I don't like the torture either, but we need answers quick and these painted men are dangerous and aggressive, and have been all the time. Not once have they approached us in a peaceful manner. So I'm sad to say the time for negotiation is over, we get what we can from this poor sap and go attack his compatriots, maybe keepca few women for our own.
>>
>>20738035
Prima Nocte! If we can't weed them out, we'll breed them out!
>>
>>20738035
How many prisoners did we have from the last battle, 20? We can take them when we go attack their village and execute them [slice their throats or something] right outside their walls. Just to show we're not playing

>Jesus, I'm such a horrible person
>>
>>20738019
He'll probably pass out from the pain and (somewhat) blood loss, I suspect, getting us no real information. Personally, I think we need to hurt him a bit to get him talking, but not so much as to render him useless.
>>
>>20738055
I believe there were six. So now we have 7. I say we torture one of them and then brutally beat the rest in front of their village to show them we mean business. May even even drive them into an unprepared charge that we could counter and crush. Excellent idea.
>>
>>20738055
That's a bit... Extreme, no? Maybe usethem as human shields? I can't recall us ever taking any more prisoners than this guy though. Didn't we kill off the wounded from the big fight and offer them to Groza?
>>
>>20738080
There is no extreme in tribal warfare, my friend. Every advantage is to be used.

captcha: youtat benefits.

We should also start ritually tattooing our best warriors so as to receive these benefits the almighty captcha speaks of!
>>
>>20738105
but seriously do we want to do that. if you get a kill you get a tattoo but not a tear drop
>>
>>20738119
Never a tear drop. No. But heck, it'd add some culture to our people. Marks of honor and all that. Probably set us off decently towards a warrior caste.
>>
>>20738105
Maybe tattoo a symbol of Groza on our warriors as a blessing? Show them to him for approval?
>>
>>20738119
One of our food sources is deer, so maybe the tattoos should resemble antlers. The bigger they are, the more kills the guy performed.
>>
>>20738140
If they did good hunting then they would get antler tattoos that resemble Hurnti. But if it happened in war then we have to do something that reminds us of Groza.
>>
>>20738140
Add a tine for each kill, maybe?
>>
>>20738157
A spear maybe? That was his weapon, after all.
>>
>>20738157
Yeah, you're right about that. But how could we represent Groza whilst having the art element connected to our daily life? Yes, our warriors may kill someone, but the tattoo should also represent who we are, besides the kill count
>>
>>20738185
Too bad I posted without refreshing. A spear with an antler intertwined around it [like a spiral, or something]?
>>
For every man you slay, you shall receive one spear. Once you have ten spears, you shall receive a shield. Once you have accumulated five spears, you will be marked by Groza himself
>>
>>20738188
I do have a couple friends that are tattoo artist mabey I can ask them to help me come up with something but I am gonna need more information about the gods which I will ask after the game is done.

But back to the problem at hand I think we should take the captive and cut his throat right in front of the village to send a message.
>>
>>20738220
*five shields

Sounds good as well
>>
>>20738220
It should be
>once you have accumulated five shields you shall be marked by Groza himself
>>
What if we.... forcibly tattooed symbols of cowardice and shit on our prisoners/hostages? Just an idea that popped in my noggin
>>
I need to force a consensus here, I'm afraid. This is why I don't usually go with open choice. What is the current plan with the prisoner?
>>
>>20738258
Well, to me it seems that the consensus is that we should quickly try to get answers from the guy and then go out and attack. The rest of the posts were kind of off-topic to the task at hand :D
>>
>>20738258
cut his fingers off and cauterize the wounds.

This. Torture for answers and march to war.

Hey ho, hey ho, it's off to war we go!
>>
The waiting game is never fun.
>>
Ack, soon 4 am here, time to drop off. Go kill some filthy painted men for me, anons.
>>
>>20738444
>dem trips

When I get bored to the waiting I imagine myself DM-ing this. Then I suddenly realize that I'd suck hardcore, and go back to being content :D
>>
>>20738463
I don't mind waiting. It builds antici-
pation.
>>
>>20738463
I was thinking about dming what is a good game to dm on /tg/.

>>20738521
Any civ game. I love them and I think everyone here agrees with me.

> My apologies. Dealt with that delay now.

The enemy captive doesn't seem to want to talk. When threatened, he looks worried, but remains tight-lipped... Until one of the warriors takes out his knife and cuts the man's pinky finger off.

The scream of pain echoes around the village and the man clenches his jaw, desperate to ignore the pain, despite choking on his own sobbing gasp of agony. Cauterising the wound yield another scream and the man starts to cry in impotent fury and rage. When he's asked again, the only response he gives is a screamed diatribe of abuse, insults and fury, with a powerful undercurrent of gut-wrenching fear. When threatened again, he remains resolute, shouting about how his tribe are warriors, they have always been warriors and if you attack, you'll be slaughtered like cattle, that monsters like you deserve no mercy.

Response
A) Patch him up and leave him. Begin the attack
B) Continue interrogation for anything useful
C) Kill him and begin the attack
D) Bring him along for the attack.
>>
>>20738576
D), bring him along and beat the shit out of him in front of his village walls.
>>
>>20738576
I think we should try one more time to get some information from him B)
>>
B
Time for half a man
>>
>>20738576

B)
>>
>>20738576
B. A couple more fingers might help.
>>
The guy that cut the first finger should do it again and he shall be known as the torturer.

Josh you gif isn't very gify
>>

I dare say it's very jpg.gify
>>
>>20738732
I ... no words to explain. But the face, the face is the main point. That would be The Torturer. I mean look at those sick and twisted eyes, you know. Taking pleasure in the dismemberment. It fits!
>>
> You are some sick puppies, you know that? Eh, who am I to judge? I'm on 4chan.

Another finger comes off and the screaming starts again. Try as the torturers might to squeeze information out of the man however, he won't talk. He continues to only scream hatred and threats when a toe is removed from his foot, to make sure his hand does not become numb to the pain. By this point, he breaks down and sobs in pain, cursing the tribe and everyone in it, in between yells of fresh agony and sobbing, begging for the pain to stop. It's at this point that Rina has to run from the room, as well as one of the warriors. Outside, there is the sound of someone being very violently ill.

What will the tribe do?
A) Patch up the prisoner and leave him. Prepare for the attack
B) Kill the prisoner and prepare for the attack
C) Patch up the prisoner and bring him along with the fighters
>>
>>20738781
>"Cut this way."
>"No, this way!"
>>
>>20738802
A.

We might be tribal, but we ain't animals. Have we managed to figure out why these people are trying to kill us? Before we started torturing their warriors I mean.
>>
>>20738802
C) but kill him to mark the start of the fight
>>
>>20738802
B. We've gone... gone too far. Now kill him. We can have no proof of this atrocity.
>>
>>20738818
This, we won't be getting anything out of this guy. We must attack now, before they get to organize their defences properly
>>
>>20738837
Kill as a sacrfice to groza while we get ready for battle.
>>
>>20738855
Yeah, that. That works too.
>>
A little over a hundred of the tribe are ready to march on the enemy village, carrying a mix of copper and flint spears, knives and shields. Trym agrees to march with the warriors, but Rina refuses to join, citing her sudden sickness as making her unable to travel. Carrying food and supplies for such a large force is non-trivial, but with the carts and lots of trips back-and-forth over the river on rafts, it's finally achieved.

The attack force marches on to the top of the hills the supply of copper is found in, where it's easy to overlook the enemy village. It would seem the tribe's approach has been spotted and the village is currently acting like an overturned ant's nest. The prisoner is brought forward and forced to kneel. The warrior who cut off his fingers raises his knife to the sky and calls upon Groza to witness the sacrifice and grant the warriors strength in the coming battle. His knife flashes down and he slits the man's throat, spilling his blood upon the ground. Out of no-where, a spear with a flint head, bones tied to it and rattling as it flies, embeds itself deep in the ground, between the warrior's feet. Groza's voice sounds from no-where. "Bound, unarmed, helpless, wounded and weak, killed without even a chance to hold a weapon and fight. Do not insult me again with such an offering!" A tremor of dread runs through the warriors. It does not seem an auspicious start to the battle.
>>
Aaaand as it's 20 to 4 in the morning here in England, I think we'll leave it on that ominous note. Next time, it's the final battle between the tribes, to decide the fate of everyone. DO NOT miss it!

Next thread will be on TUESDAY at 4:30PM, EST. I hope you all enjoyed tonight and wish you all a pleasant evening. I believe there were questions earlier? I have a little time for them now.
>>
>>20739086
Groza does not like weak sacrifices shit!
>>
>>20739105
It may help if you asked the priests for advice on how to please a god, just sayin'. That is, if Groza HAD a priesthood...
>>
>>20739131
Well, we can always promise Groza that the upcoming battle will bring him tons of offerings, so all's not bad
