I'm sorry, but I follow Nagi's orders." you tell her.
"... kill joy."

You sat there on the stool, not moving a muscle as you watched Maria clean the dishes.
After a few more minutes, she finishes and walks over to you.
"Are you sure you're feeling all right Hayate?" She asks, a hand on your forehead.
"I'm fine Maria-san..."
"Nagi did this didn't she?"
"Yes."
"NAGI!" she calls out into the hallway.

You hear the girls scrambling to get away, thier small feet tip-tapping down the long corridor.
"NAGI, GET BACK HERE THIS INSTANT!" Maria shouts again.

A moment later and your sorry looking mistress comes back, eyes downcast, unable to meet Marias glare.
"Why did you do this to Hayate?"
"We... We were bored."
"And you think that this is right?" Maria asks
"N-no..."
"Exactly! We both know that red isn't his color, it should be blue."
Maria grabs your arm and Nagi does the same to the other one.
"Now, let me show you that thing I was sewing the other night..."

-------------------------------------------------

The next day, after an evening of being a dress-up doll for 4 energetic girls, you took Nagi and Izumi to Hakuou and then escorted Sakuya to her own school.

"See ya butler-boy," the energetic one says in Kansai-ben. "I'll come around and play again next time."
"You are more than welcome to miss Sakuya."
"Oh, and Hayate-han..." She adds a bit softly as you walked away, "sorry if we we're a bit too hard on ya last night."
"It's nothing Sakuya." you tell her as you head off.

Nagi has not given you any orders other than take Sakuya to school, that meant that you're free to do anything you wish until lunch when you'll have to tend to your mistress' meal.

The neighborhood you were in was familiar, it's near where you lived before you ran away and went into hiding.

You decide to check out your old house, maybe you could find some clues there.
The old apartment block is still as dreary as you left it.
The stairs leading up to the second floor still creaking like they could collapse at any minute.

The old apartment you shared with those two, the man and woman that called themselves your parents, was the farthest one down the hall, room number 204.
The door still bore the numerous boot marks that "nice men" left there when trying to collect debt payments from those two.

You grab the knob and turn it.

The door opens roughly as you remember it to have always done, no amount of oiling of it's hinges ever fixed it, and you head on inside.

The apartment, a small 2ldk, is surprising clean.
It's still bare and gloomy, but clean.
You look around and find the kitchen still as bare as you left it, the livingroom only occupied by that one broken kotatsu.

Those two's bedroom was dusty and smelled like mold, completely untouched unlike the rest of the house.
Your old room on the other hand was cleaned recently.

The futon was folded up neatly, and stashed in a corner, the pillows and covers stored in the otherwise empty closet.

Someone has been here, that's obvious.
That certain someone even taking the time to tidy up the place.
And you think you know who it is.

Finding nothing, you head to the living room and pull out a pad of paper and a pen to leave a note.

[x]Look for Susan
Look at the local convenience stores; Susan would be easily able to find a part-time job at them to acquire funds while looking for an exit, and eating expired food before throwing them out is a damn sight better than dumpster diving for meals like we used to have to do.

Thinking that Susan just might be close-by, you head to the nearest familiar location to look for her.

It's your old school, the one you attended for the past 2 years before you were forced to run and hide.

Jumping the walls easily, and sneaking in behind the pool, you decide to take your time and look for her slowly, starting with the classrooms.

Checking the 2nd year classrooms one by one from the roof of the middle school's building, you try and find Susan.

You fail to find her and end up looking into your class' windows longer than you should have.
This was your first mistake.

Inside, a certain twin-tailed girl, bored with classic literature, was nibbling on her pen and day dreaming while looking out the window.

She spots you, your black suit standing out of the drab grey rooftop.
A look of recognition washes over her face and she bolts upright in her seat pointing at you.
"Ah! HAYATE!" She calls out as she flung open the window, effectively disturbing class.

You instead opt to give her a quick wave before walking away and out of her line of sight.

She's also the only person in our past who we spent considerable time with, asides from A-tan (who Canonically acts like she's never met us).

There is some merit in speaking with her, but I wouldn't get my hopes up that she's the key.

You search the school, hoping to find anything that might lead you to Susan.
The library was empty, the gymnasium too.
The other classrooms, even the middle school ones, providing nothing that you could use.

Almost giving up, you decide to head to the cafeteria.

It's empty as you expected, what with classes still going on.
After a quick peek there, and thus confirming that there's nothing to be had, you head on out and prepared to leave.

As you were about to head towards the pools to climb out the way you went in, you hear someone call out.

"HEY YOU! STOP!"
You turn around to find your homeroom teacher, mr.Yamazaki, accompanied by Nishizawa.
"I told you I saw him..." she tells him, panting after running back and forth through the school searching for you.
