"Uh... well, Zeke, uhm. . " Cassiel's spectre said. "I'm, uh, sorry to say that I don't feel that-"
"Oh man oh god I did *not* mean to do that." Zeke said, taking three steps backward, where he tripped over the edge of the circle. "It's all Ishelda's fault! She's always ruffling people's hair!"
There was a long delay while Kaliel bit her lip, and Raziel tried not to laugh, but then Raziel burst into giggles. Ashamed, Zeke covered his face.

>It starts the same time every day. You could just hide it and move on. Or you could catch up and participate, if you wanted.

You pull Zeke to his feet.
"I did the same thing before I knew what preening implied." You say, and give him a hug. "Sorry for corrupting you."
"That's different." Zeke said. "It doesn't exactly count as much when one form isn't kalak."
Kaliel turned red. "She wasn't always in human form." She mumbled.
"Oh. Oh!" Zeke said.

Cassiel looked from person to person, still standing there silently.

Clear our throat
"Yes, well, I believe there was a plan to get Cassiel back to life. How're we doing with that?"
>>
>>20685407
"Human or Kalak, I'm still the same person.... anyway, Cassiel, we had a certain idea concerning your presence."
Let Raz and Kal explain it to him.
>>
You clear your throat.
"Human or Kalak, I'm still the same person.... anyway, Cassiel, we had a certain idea concerning your presence."
"Oh?" He asked, raising his eyebrows.
"The plan is to bring you back to True Life." Raziel said. "Did a lot of research on it."
"Back to life?" Cassiel asked. "Most of the time, such a thing takes a blood sacrifice, of sorts."
"Yep." Raziel responded. "Stronger if it's the blood of family members."
"But I don't believe we're related by blood, sadly." Cassiel said.
"But you're wrong." Raziel said. "That sort of thing doesn't matter. It may with hereditary power, or the color of someone's plumage... but blood relation doesn't matter. We're still a family, and the ritual will understand that."
"Right." he said. "So, uh, how exactly are we going to be doing this? I'm still, erm, rather lost as to what's going on or what had happened while I was dead."
"First, we need part of your body." Raziel said, motioning to the delicious-yet-horrendous smelling sea serpent flesh in the circle. "Which we have. Next, we need the blood of your family, or a willing participant. Or willing family members. Which we have. Finally, we need two other things. A body for you, which Kaliel will handle, and something a lot harder to get."
"Oh? And what is that?"
"Power." She said. "The totem is to call your spirit, and the blood will help your spirit bind to your form, but you'll just be possessing an empty shell, unless. . unless we get enough power to bring you to True Life."
>>
>>20685380
So... filter it?

>>
>>20685527

>>

"Oooh, that's my part, right? I'd love to help."
>>
"How much power? I have quite a lot, you know. Is that where I come in?"
"I'm not sure." Raziel said. "You're powerful, but, well, it isn't all that reliable. If it goes wrong, then he'll end up consigned to a body that eventually rots away, and his soul will rot away with it. False Life isn't a good thing, and can't be reversed. We can do it any time. . .but be *sure* that you're ready, and if we can find more people to help, that'd be good."
>>
>>20685604
>If I remember correctly, we can't fail at Control Magic as long as we are touching the target.
"Well, I can get a lot of crystals here, and if I can physically touch the body during the ritual it's a much more stable power flow."
>>
>>20685604
"Clearly, we need to prepare a battery of magic to store the necessary power for channeling, check and double-check it for faults, and make sure that there is an excess of power in both the battery and participants of the ritual in the unlikely case of a mishap. It might be wise to call on Azariel for assistance as well."
>>
>>20685604
"If that's the case, we should definitely try to get more help. Just to be sure. I don't want to be responsible for the destruction of a soul. Perhaps Zeke can teach me how to transfer some of my power via wizardry, it seems to be more reliable than my sorcery." Cringe and hug Raziel.
>>
>>20685604
If I just feed you like when Kal made her armor I can give you loads of power, no problem. I can even grab the Jormungandr's power crystals as extra. If I actually have to cast myself, we'll have to find another way. Sometimes I just use all my energy on one simple light spell and I don't think there's a way to avoid that. I heard the Gearworks can bring people back from the dead and we are looking for that anyway.
>>
"If that's the case, we should definitely try to get more help." You say. "Just to be sure. I don't want to be responsible for the destruction of a soul." You say, cringing. "Perhaps Zeke can teach me how to transfer some of my own power via wizardry. It seems to be more reliable than my sorcery."
"That's a rather good idea." Raziel said. "Because when you were helping me make my armor, the power you gave me. . fluctuated."
"It would be wise to call on Azariel for assistance, as well, and prepare a battery of magic." You say.
"I'm not sure that's a good idea." Raziel said. "I'll need to talk to Gehenna about this to be sure, but this sort of ritual doesn't handle. . implements very well. It's all based around life and living things, and to keep tools or undead nearby- even to use them- doesn't sound like a good idea."
"If it's based around life and living things. . ." Zeke said. "We ask Marigold for help."
"... I don't know who that is." Cassiel said. "And Gehenna? You guys are actually talking to him and Ragnarok? I mean, I kept saying we should all make amends, but. . ."
"His brother's dead. Wanderer killed him." Zeke responded.
"Oh. And you didn't bring him back because..."
"Because his spirit was pulled away from us and bound somewhere." Raziel responded. "Probably another necromancer."
"Right."
>>
Oh dear. I hope that 'other necormancer' isn't who I think it is. What he said before he was bound makes me think it is though.
>>
>>20685695
"Marigold is very good at controlling her Talent. Maybe I can channel power into her as she channels it into the body. That should give a consistent flow of powerful life magic."
>>
>>20685695
"I think we definitely need to get you up to speed first, Cassiel."
>>
>>20685717
There is no other necromancer, that's just what Raziel thinks. The Void Queen destroyed his soul.
>>
>>20685695
"Well, in the meantime I'd love to catch you up on what's been happening in the world."

Exa, this is the perfect place to post that full summary of the entire plot you were planning to do, right?
>>
"Marigold is very good at controlling her Talent. Maybe I can channel power into her as she channels it into the body. That should give a consistent flow of powerful life magic." You say.
"Unless you burn her with too much magic power." Kaliel said. "Like what happened to your hands. Training would be best."
"I think we definitely need to get you up to speed first, Cassiel." You say.
"I'd like that, very much." Cassiel responded.
"I can probably start." Zeke said, scratching the back of his head. "And then once we get to where Raz arrived, she can continue from there while I train Ishelda more on wizardry."
He shrugged, and then started.
"So, after you died, I went down to the ship itself, ready to start flinging around fire. . and then a bear got ahold of me."
"A bear?"
"A really, really big bear." Zeke said. "You'll meet him, he's cool. But he tore me apart, and I had to have Azariel put me back together. But anyway, I still thought that Ishelda over here was Uriel..."
He started telling Cassiel everything that had happened, slowly and calmly, about the group as they made their way from the orcish lands, through the elven lands, and all the way south to the lizardman lands.
"... And there, we spoke with Vithriel, and. . Raz showed up, apparently incredibly, incredibly drunk on swamp brew. And here's where I think I can leave off."
>>
>>20685764
I suppose now would be the time to start learning wizardry with Zeke, so let's do that.
>>
>>20685757
>I don't have that summary quite done yet.

"Right." Raziel said, turning to you. "You two have fun while we get him caught up more."
"We will." Zeke said, and the two of you made your way out of the room. "Well, you know that wizardry has multiple schools. But some spells, like the Light spell I taught you, don't exactly fit in any one group. Transferring power is similar to that. It doesn't fit any particular school, and it doesn't have it's own inclinations, like most spells do. Although we should be finding out which schools you're suited for, we can also just teach you a few universal spells and see how you deal with those. It's really up to you."
>>
>>20685764
"I don't think she'll remember much of that. You'll have to get to the point where she's concious again before she can take over."
>>
>>20685825

>>

>>
>>20685825
"Well, since there's a need for it at the moment, I'd like to learn the transfer spell."
>>
"For now, let's just see if I can do the transfer spell."
"Right. That was kind of a given, actually." He said, flipping open his book. "Here's the somatic component- it's pretty simple, and you're only supposed to do it with one hand, pushing your other palm against whoever you want to channel magic to, and here's the words of power.." He says, and you examine the rune that signifies what you're supposed to say, and how to move your hand, as he drones on about control. Finally, you think you understand the concept well enough.

"Now try it on me." He said. "Keep it small, because you have much more stamina than anyone else I can think of, and too much raw magic can cause nasty burns."

You nod, twist your hand into something like a fist with the first two fingers crossed, and touch Zeke with your fingertips.

You bring your magic forth, and speak the word. Your energy, steadily, perfectly controlled with raw force of will, courses down your arm and through your fingertips, pouring into Zeke.

He smiled. "Good, good. Try it again."
You continue to practice the spell, swapping your own magic back and forth between you and Zeke as you play 'pass the spark'. Each and every time you exercise perfect control, until finally Zeke chuckles, and passes your magic back to you.
"You've taken to this like a fish to water. I'm sure you can use it without somatic components or even vocal ones, once you learn how to do that." He said, chuckling.
>>
>>20685938
"Great!" Hug the bird.
>>
"Great!" You say, and give Zeke another hug.
"Well, now. . I have to admit. . I'm curious." He said, quickly flipping through the pages of his book. He opened it, and showed you a strange rune- it looked like the somatic component included covering and closing your eyes, and the vocal component was a singly syllable.
"Try this spell." He said. "While you're on a roll, at least. Even if it goes wrong, it shouldn't hurt anyone."

You close your eyes, just to check. . and you can still see the strange fields, with a ton of. . dark, cold magic emanating from the cistern. You sense that it's necromantic, strangely.
" . . Wow." Zeke said. "I'm surprised. You just casted your first divination spell, and with it.. you can now see magic itself. Like Ell, I suppose, but ell's sight is a lot sharper than anything a spell can emulate. How old were you again?"

>Divination magic is some of the strangest, and the most powerful. Magic has many sides- many instincts, and tendencies. It is a madman with a hundred personalities. If you are lucky, the most wild of those beasts- divination- will obey you, as it did for me.
>>
"Sixteen, now." you say.
"And you can accomplish divination magic." He said. "I'm impressed. Divination is the sort that, as long as you know the somatic and vocal components, you don't need any sort of control with the more basic spells. I wonder why you can even do it..."
He bent back down to the book, and flipped a few more pages.
"But I know why I can use divination. It's because I managed to... intimately understand some of the earliest history in the Orcish tower." You say.
"With sorcery?" He asked, and you nod. "So you experienced hundreds of years, I suppose. Or perhaps you're gifted with divination. Or, perhaps, you've had more experiences, good and bad, than most do."
He shrugged, and flipped the page once more. He tilted his head and listened to the other room, but Raziel was still talking. "Let's move on, then, while they're getting him caught up. This is a basic evocation spell. The hand shape doesn't exactly matter, but your position does. Move your arms like. . .this." He said, and you imitated his shape. "Twist your hand into a claw, and invoke the spell."

Les' GO!
>>
You look down at the paper, and the large, sprawling rune, and then focus your magic into the palm of your hand. You focus. . .and a few sparks burst into being, perfectly suspended in your palm. . and then it winked out.
"Try and put more power into it." He said. "Evocation is the most powerhungry of all schools, for the most part. Abjuration can take as much, but not if you're clever. Anyway, more power."

You twist your arm into that position, and say the word again, putting more force into the spell. A small, levitating orb of fire bursts into being, simmering softly, and perfectly smokeless.
"Throw it, now, at that wall."
You lob it softly. . and it falls immediately to the ground, winking out after a flash of flame.

"You just need a bit more practice." He said.

A few minutes later, you had a perfectly spherical orb in your hand, slowly vibrating.
"Now. Throw it softly, like you did that first time." He said.

You slowly lob the spell-

And it tears out of your palm, increasing as it flies, and slams into the wall, bursting into flame. With a start, you realize- you'd seen this spell before, when Kaliel was using it against the minotaur.
Zeke chuckled. "I probably should have started with basic force spells, because those don't set things aflame or explode... but you can't go wrong with fire."

>>

>>
"I guess you're right about that." You say, and giggle. "I don't need to cast to get fire." You say, and uncoil the soulfire from your arm, where it wiggles through the air, and then pokes him in the shoulder.
"Obviously." He said. "But evocation likes fire, in a way. Fire spells are the easiest. You do need to have a lot of magic to use it, and you can't put too much or too little into it, but if you get that right, it's a lot easier to cast and manipulate the spell."
He put his hand under his beak, thinking. "What else should we do. . "
"Is there any other divination spells I can try?"
"Well, there's the most basic form of scrying." He said. "One second."

Quickly, he ran off. . and then came back, with a small rock clod- it looked like it had been mud, dried and compressed with magic.
He flipped through the pages.
"This one requires a tool, or a focus. Most don't, and a focus is optional, but for this one it's all but required. With that small bit of dirt, you should be able to scry on the area the dirt came from. It has to be somewhere you've seen, too."

You take a look at the rune he's showed you, and the somatic component includes closing your eyes, and putting the focus in both hands. Strange, how most divination spells seem to require closed eyes. Ironic, you suppose.
>>
>>20686459
It's only weaponized if we want it to be. It can also simply be warm, or be used as an extra limb (Which would be the case with poking someone).

You close your eyes, and say the word. .

And nothing happens.

"Hmm. . You have seen marigold's flower garden, right?" He asked, and you nod. ". . Try it again?"

Focusing on that memory, you try it again. . and your arms grow warm, and you feel your magic leaking from them- small amounts, though, like you were only casting a rather minor spell.
"Your silver arm things are sending beams of light to the dirt." Zeke said. "But don't open your eyes, just continue on."

Suddenly. . you can See. Marigold's, looking this way and that in the flower field. You see something move, slightly- and you see that a rather large patch of flowers wasn't flowers at all, but Kell, using the flowers on his back as camoflauge. Marigold bumps into him, and mouths something- you can't seem to hear anything from your vision, but you see Kell get up, give Marigold a hug, and pat her on the head when he sets her back down. The vision fades.

"How was that?" He asked.

"So... so adorable." You say. Zeke chuckled.
"They've been playing hide and seek for the past half hour." Zeke said. "But I don't know if the other divination spells are safe, so you should practice on the two you know now, for now. What other school can you think of. . Alchemy, maybe? No, we should probably get Abjuration, healing, and Enchantment out of the way first. Alchemy is some of the hardest to control."
He flipped backwards through the book, before showing you a. . very, very strange rune. It looked like a circle, with a few curved lines. It didn't show any symbols for somatic components, and it didn't have any words of power.
"This one's a bit different." He said. "Most of the time, enchantment doesn't have any components at all. What you need to do is manipulate your inner magic. . ." He said, and started rambling on about what the curved lines on the rune meant. Finally, he shrugged. "... and then you just enforce your will on the concept." He said. From what you can tell of the rune, it's some kind of communication spell.
"Just try it on me." He said.

You close your eyes, and impress your mind on the ideas those runes signify- that of movement, and thought, focusing on Zeke.

You feel your arms grow warm, and the world slowly starts to swim and your muscles start to ache. . but you feel a Presence in your mind. Or are you the Presence in his?
<I am inside your head.> You say.
<You are.> He thinks back. <This spell is called a Sending, although once the link is established, it goes both ways. There are more powerful versions that let you send memories, or even steal them unwillingly. .. but as it is, this is basically what your rings do.>

He mentally shoved you out, breaking the connection, and then he grinned. "Everyone has trouble with that sort of thing." He says. "Except for Kaliel. She's somewhat of a savant when it comes to not using vocal or somatic components."

"Just invoke the spell." He said. . and then small wisps of flame burst into his hands. "You have five seconds. Go."

And then he readied to throw them at you.

Quickly, you brought up your arm, and invoked the spell. A flickering, stuttering shield of light appeared, and then Zeke wound back- And the shield went out. Panicked, you cast the spell again, while Zeke's spell was in the air. You didn't even have time to examine the shield before the first firebolt slammed into it, bursting into flame.

The second firebolt slammed against the shield, recoil pushing you back slightly. The third one hit it, and the shield cracked, small sparks of light falling from the crack- the spell was starting to fail. The fourth hit, and shattered the shield. The spell fell apart, into sparks.

"Well." He said, wiping his brow. "Did you get burned?"
You shake your head.

"I think I'll have to practice this one." You say. "I can't count the times a magical shield would have been useful."
"Well, if you ever need someone to throw things at you, I'm sure you can ask your loyal citizens." He said, and chuckled. "Nobody *ever* gets to throw rocks at a queen without the risk of losing their heads. They'd jump at the chance."

For a few more minutes, you practiced with the shield spell- not fighting against Zeke's thrown spells, no, but by trying to widen the shield, and make it more solid, before you think you can cast it reliably.
"I think this was enough for me today, sorry." You say. "The last two spells were really exhausting."
"Don't worry about it." He said. "That's why. . I purloined this from Ell." He said, pulling up a strange, crystal sphere. "Actually, I just plain asked him for it, but saying 'purloined' is more fun. Anyway, it's the magic battery from his armor. Try and absorb it with the mana transfer spell I taught you."
You put your hand on it, close your eyes, and say the word, surprised you remember it so readily, and magic power pours back into you- almost too quickly, actually, and the raw magic zaps your hand painfully, making you pull it back, and examine the scorch mark there. You hiss, looking at it.

"Well." He said. "This is a good chance to try healing."
He slid the book in front of you- it was similar to the Light spell, in a way, except you had to focus on a general area- your palm, to be exact.

"Mar makes it look rather easy." You say.
"She does." He says. "Like Ell makes that magic detection spell look easy. . and the way *you* make everything look easy." He said, as you clench your hand. It's slightly stiff, but it doesn't hurt anymore. Almost as good as Fellwind's casting.

"And now, Alchemy." He said, closing the book and putting it away. "When I was first learning, Azariel had me turn some stone into dirt, and back into stone when I was learning. . but there are a few spells from Leon's spellbook I was examining, and they all check out- they're temporary shapeshift forms, and perfectly safe." You eye them, but you can't tell which is which. Instead, you choose a random one- the one with the least complicated somatic component- and get ready to cast.

>>
>>20687060
Then we should only be using the first roll anyways.
>>
Guess we'll keep to sorcery when it comes to transforming things...
>>
>>20687069
No, it's pretty clear Exabyte's been using rolls other than the first for this exercise.
>>
>>20687091
It's pretty clear he's been taking them in order and just keeping practising until we get it, so succeeding the first time should make the other rolls irrelevant. He's totally going to use it though.
>>
>First two rolls were just for the time-sensitive spell.

Raziel walks out of the cistern, into the room.
"Kaliel's explaining what she's been doing for the past two years, and then we'll be done." She said. "What's Ishelda casting now?"
"No clue." Zeke said, and showed her the paper. "This one."
Raziel started giggling as she saw the rune. Not letting her screw up your concentration, you twist your hands, invoke the words, unused to using your pinkies for the spell, and cross your arms, and invoke the spell. Magic rushes through your body. . and then there's a flash of light, and you feel your form twist, ever so subtly, and your hair pulls back into your head. . and Zeke starts laughing.

"So." Raziel said, grinning. She opened up the mirror she was going to use for Sker, and showed you yourself. In it... you see your father.. but younger, much younger. You reach up and touch your face- and the reflection in the mirror does the same.
>>
>>20687116
"This is definitely not what I expected." Giggle. "But I have to show Marigold."
>>
>>20687116
"Wha- but- how-... Why does Leon have that spell? Wait, did it..."
Time to check down our pants.
>>
>>20687116
"Wha-
But-
How long does this last?"
>>
>>20687151
Later. A Queen does not stick her hands down her pants in public. Even if she's a King.
>>
>>20687116
"So, Raz, how do I look?"
>>
>>20687165
Not sticking our hand down there. We probably don't want to be wearing a dress in this form, if you get my drift.
>>
"I think...I think maybe I want to go put some pants on.
Let me know when Kal's done so I can surprise her with this."
>>
>Pants
You mean trousers, laddie.

Fuck I just can't take Scottish Ishelda seriously.
>>
>>20687224
Scottish accent, not vocabulary.
>>
>>20687224
Mostly it just means she doesn't pronounce hard consonants in the middle of a word and draws out the vowels a little.
>>
>>20687232
Oh? And why should she use American vocabulary?

Because if she didn't Exabyte would keep slipping up and using it anyway. But apart from that.
>>
"Wha-but-how-" You say, your voice coming out deep, and clear- You'd think it an attractive voice, suited for calling out orders on a battlefield if it wasn't *yours*. "...Why does Leon have that spell? H-how long does this last?"
Zeke shrugged. "Matters on how much power you put into the spell." He said. "With your amount of power. . it could be days." He shrugged.
"Or you could just ask Zeke to get rid of it." Raziel added.
You take a deep breath. "So, Raz, how do I look?"
"You're still wearing a petticoat. and a dress." She said. "But you're slightly taller, more masculine. . but not very masculine, strangely. No facial hair. Pretty handsome, though." She said, grinning.
"I think..." You say. "I think maybe I want to go put some pants on. Let me know when Kal's done so I can surprise her with this."
"Will do." Zeke said.
You make your way out of the room, up to yours. . and while undressing, you see some things that you should *not* have, and you blush, quickly putting on some trousers, glad that they fit for the most part, and doubly-glad that you thought to purchase more than just dresses and frocks- a warrior queen like yourself needs adventuring clothes, after all. Warrior king, instead, you correct yourself mentally.
You take a deep breath, rub your hand across your face, and examine yourself in the mirror a bit more.

>The world is your oyster, king of new arcturus? Wat Do?
>>
>>20687261
Troll Marigold.
>>
>>20687261
I think our dearest cousin might be interested in this development.
>>
>>20687261
>By "Or you could just ask Zeke to get rid of it."
>I meant "Or you could just ask Kris to get rid of it."
>>
>>20687261
First we need a new name.
Maybe one of Ishelda's male ancestors can lend us his name temporarily.
>What are some ancestor names, Exabyte?
>>
>>20687261
Go surprise Marigold, then Kaliel, then get them both in on tricking Belethor to convince him we're Ishelda's brother.
Possibly by having Kaliel shapeshift into looking like Ishelda normally does and walking by.
>>
>>20687287
Well, I think one of our ancesters was named Some-King. Can't exactly remember the chart.
>>
>>20687261
Go walk. Find people.
>>
First, you think, Marigold would be interested in this development, and you consider teasing her. . .
But first, you need a name. Perhaps one of your ancestors can lend you some names. You don't remember many of them, but you have a long line nobility in your blood. There's Abel, your father, Shem, your grandfather, Cain, your great-grandfather. . and finally, the first king of New Arcturus. King David.

Dave, for short.
>>
>>20687319
Let's go with Cain. Just to break the pattern, if only once.
>>
>>20687319
>New Arcturus
>I meant Arcturus. the old one. Whoops.
>>
>>20687319
Dave for sure.
>>
>>20687319
>Abel, Cain, David
But it's the Kalak who have biblical names.
>>
>>20687338
Kalak have angelic names. Anyone can have biblical names.
>>
>>20687319
I'm fine with everything as long as we avoid Dave
>>
>>20687338
-el at the end of the name is hebrew for 'of god', and is applied to just about every angel there is. Kalak have angelic names, but not all biblical names are angelic.
>>
>>20687319
Voting for Cain. I think we look like a Cain.
>>
Voting for Cain.
>>
>>20687298
do this
>>
Something about the name Dave sets you off. You don't feel like choosing it, strangely- it seems... too common, too normal.
You shrug, give your mirror a smirk to see the way it looks. You were a kalak, and even a wyvern, in the past. Being a man is nothing special.

You, as Cain, stroll out of the room. You're still not quite sure how to walk more properly, as your hips feel much differently shaped- it makes your walk seem more like sauntering, you suppose, and you make your way out of the castle, out to the flower field. Marigold is hiding behind a bush, while Kell is peeking behind the other bushes, as Marigold giggles. She didn't seem to hear you approach behind her.
>>
>>20687388
We look like our father, right? What would he say?
>>
>>20687388
"Excuse me, young lady?"
>>
>>20687388
"Good morning Princess Marigold."
>>
>>20687388
"You there, young lady! I've been told your kisses are lucky, and I'm in need of some luck."
>>
>>20687399
Or evening or whatever is most appropriate.
>>
"Good afternoon, Princess Marigold." You say, and Mar jumps, slightly, befire turning around.
"Oh, good afternoon!" She said, after a slight double-take. She curtseyed to you, and bowed low, giving you a demure smile. "I don't believe I've seen you in the castle before, sir. Are you a visitor? A knight, perhaps?"
>>
>>20687424
"I am a visitor, yes. I've only arrived a few minutes ago, your highness."
>>
>>20687424
"I am indeed a knight, Sir Cain, from Cerulean Province."
>>
>>20687424
Bow in return, "Oh? I don't look familiar to you?" and try to flash her the most panty-soaking smile we can.
>>
>>20687424
"I AM KING CAIN, RULER OF THESE LANDS."
>>
>>20687405
I'm a traveller, and I have come from far away because...
>>
>>20687424
"Not a knight. More of an adventurer, really."
>>

This
>>
You bow in return. "Oh? I don't look familiar to you?" You ask, giving her the most handsome smile you can. She giggles, and her cheeks go red. "I am not a knight, I'm afraid to say. More of an adventurer, really."
<Ishelda! There's someone else here from Arcturus.> Your ring suddenly claimed, connecting with Marigold's. <He has the accent, and he's calling himself 'Cain'. He knew my name. Something's fishy, and he's obviously trying to seduce me.>
"Oh, really? Have you come with the Guild?" She asked, the smile and faded blush on her face telling you nothing about what your ring just said.
>>
>>20687462
>"More of an adventurer, really. My name is Cain."

<Is he succeeding?>
>>
>>20687462

<Oh? Are you sure he's from Arcturus? Keep him busy, I'll see what I can find out.>

" I'm not officially a member, but I was talking with Grandmaster Lewin earlier. I've been travelling for quite some time."
>>
<Oh? Are you sure he's from Arcturus? Keep him busy, I'll see what I can find out.> You respond, using your normal voice. <. . Is he succeeding?>
"Indeed, I've been a member for a short while." You say, softening your accent. Hopefully she'd think it was a trick of her mind. "A freelancer, before then."
<I'm not. . .completely sure. . and, well, maybe a little. Hurry up.>
"A freelancer? Please, I bid you, tell me of your adventures." She said, her eyes widening slightly, as if she was enamored with the idea of learning more about you.
>>
>>20687462
"I'd be happy to." motion her over to a table or bench or something, "I've heard a lot of rumors about a beautiful, mysterious girl who grows flowers I'd love to hear more about too."
>>
>>20687509
"Well, I've slain a few *glance at Kell* regular trolls, but so have almost all of the adventurers. I spent some time exploring the northern islands. I found one in particular that was strangely warm, and it had these strange, flightless birds on it."
>>
>>20687509
"I would love to, your highness. Do you perhaps know a place where we might sit?"
>>
Hm, we don't have Rikar on us, do we? 'cause otherwise the jig is already up, most likely.
>>
>>20687509
I've travelled far across the lands, but I always seem to be in the shadow of someone great. I went to the Orcish lands, but their trolls had been burned already, I went east, to the Elves, but they didn't like visitors. Then I went to talk to the lizardmen. They have some fine women down there.

Regale our own adventures!
>>
>>20687509
"Well I had a bit of an adventure just now, actually. This strange bird gave me a spell to try and it turned me into a man."
<Haha, sorry, I couldn't resist.>
>>
>>20687565
We don't want to seem like a braggart in front of Marigold.
>>
>>20687577
Let's not give it up just yet.
>>
>>20687564
>Nope. You left it with your dress, since you were going incognito.

"I'd love to, your highness." You say, motioning her over to a conveniently placed bench. "I've slain a few. . regular trolls, but so have almost all of the adventurers. I've traveled far across the lands. I spent some time exploring the northern islands. I one found one in particular that was.. strangely warm, and it had these strange, flightless birds on it."
"Really?" She asked, and brushed her hair behind her head. "I've heard of that island, as well. I was told it was beautiful. Can you tell me more about it?"
>>
>>20687598
"It is a wonderous place, and nothing could compare to it. At least until I came to New Arcturus."
>>
>>20687598
Tell her the general description of the island then
"I've heard that you were somewhat of an adventurer yourself, before Her Majesty took the throne."
>>
>>20687591
There is a point where it goes from funny to cruel, and I just want to make sure we don't get near it. There are plenty of other people to do afterwards.

>>20687598
>I've heard of that island, as well. I was told it was beautiful
I swear we went back to that island specifically to show her.
>>
>>20687598
"Well I had thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever see...until I came here. It really is an amazing city."
>>
>>20687619
We did. She's testing us.
>>
>>20687619
She's pretending not to know about it to stall "Cain"
>>
>>20687626
Just checking I wasn't misremembering.
>>
>>20687598
It was one of the most beautiful places I've been, second only to here. Your handiwork is lovely.
>>
"It is a wonderous place, covered in flowers, with brown, cheeping birds, hopping around the island." You say. "I had thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever see...until I came here."
"Oh?" She said, giggling. Under her breath, you hear her say the word 'gareth'. . but she relaxes when nothing seems to happen.
"It really is an amazing city." You say.
"At first I thought you were going to compliment me, not the city. I have to admit, Cain, I'm rather disappointed." She said, her cheeks still pink.
>>
>>20687698
No compliment I could offer so casually would do you justice!
>>
>>20687698
"Now, wouldn it not be unbecoming to try and flatter the princess of New Arcturus just a few minutes after meeting her?"
>>
>>20687698
Grin, "Disappointed?" lean in close to her, to whisper into her ear, mimicking her accent and tone, "But we're cousins, and girls, and it's just wrong!"
>>
>>20687698
"Well, jumping straight to that might be considered rude, and..."
This part is both out loud and over the ring
"<Pfffffhahahaha... Marigold, it's me, Ishelda.>"
>>
>>20687698
"Ah! How rude of me."

>>20687723
Pfahahahaha
>>
>>20687698
"Why would you think that, you ugly bitch?"
>>

>>20687723

>>
>>20687723
>We're cousins, and despite that, we're too young, and both girls. It's wrong!

Let's take the original line she used.
>>
>>20687723
It's forbidden love!

Actually, we should copy exactly what she said when she was teasing us.
>>
>>20687744
Yes, this. I couldn't remember it specifically enough.
>>
>>20687744
>>20687745
We should.
>>
"No compliment I could offer so casually would do you justice!" You say, and lean closer to her. "We're cousins, and despite that, we're too young, and both girls. It's wrong!"

"Wh. . . what?" She asked, rather dazed. "What?"
"<Pfhahahahaha... Marigold, it's me, Ishelda!>" You say, and send through the ring at the same time, and start giggling. The giggling doesn't suit your voice, but you giggle nonetheless
"I. . I uh. . ."

Marigold sighed, and covered her face.
"I should have known!" She wailed into her hands.
>>
>>20687776

>>
>>20687776

We need to fuck with Belethor first.
>>
>>20687776

"I was just too tempted. If you want, I can give you a kiss. Would that make it alright?"

>>
>>20687827
Eh, why not. She's on the list, anyway.
>>
So why does Leon have a shapeshifting spell to make someone into a man. Maybe he is actually a girl. Maybe he likes men and he also likes girls who are turned into men.

We should go mess with him later.

Time to show Kaliel.
>>
>>20687776

"I'm sort of surprised you didn't." You say. "I look just like my dad."
"I was *terrified* of your dad, remember?" She asked, frowning. "I never saw him up close if I could help it."
"Sorry, Mar, it was just too funny." You say, and give her a hug, and a kiss on the cheek. She goes bright red.
"D-don't do that." She said. "It's too weird!"
"I'm sorry, Marigold. 'Zeke and I were practicing wizardry, and he'd borrowed some spells from Leon. It was a shapeshifting spell, we had no idea what it did, and, well... Nuh-uh, vetoing the brother charade. Instead we'll just say we're one of the knights who first found Ishelda and helped to teach her swordsmanship, which is also why we fight with a short sword.

Saying we're the queen's brother is incredibly weak especially against Belethor.
>>
"Right." You say. "Let's go to my room. The good thing about that is that my clothes will fit perfectly, so you can wear whatever you want."
"Okay." She said. The two of you make your way up to your bedroom, and Zeke catches your eye as you take Marigold to your bedroom. He raises his eyebrows. . and you have a feeling that you *really* don't want to dwell on that.
"I think I can emulate the way you talk. . but I'm not sure about the way you move." Marigold said, once the door was closed. "You're very. . . graceful."

How we are a knight who quite fancys ishelda, but she left him behind because danger.
>>
>>20688230
The explanation is that Cain is reclusive. We can probably bullshit something about having been busy doing important research as well. Nobody ever told him about us because it never came up.
>>
>>20688258
Do you want him to think that Cain is such a wimp that he had to be left behind due to "danger"?

"I think the magic can help with that." You say. She nods.
"With sorcery, right? I remember someone talking about that... but I've never been changed by magic before." She said. "So, uh, do it."

You put your hand on her shoulder, and then bring forth your sorcery. The silver lines on your arms burst into existence, and start blazing with color of all sorts, and reach toward Marigold, where the flashes of light make you squint. By the time it's over, you've hardly expended any energy. When you open your eyes again, A woman exactly like you was standing there, embarrassingly holding up the front of her dress, which was too short for her, and the front was almost falling off.

Something. . .happens, with your new... acquisitions, very suddenly. It's... unnatural, and your heart starts beating quickly.

"I uh.." You say, turning promptly around. "I'm not sure what's going on suddenly."
". . .Right. I, uh, forgot you were a man. It's... probably that." She said, in your voice. She'd thickened her accent to sound exactly like you. "Well. . I'll find something. Ooh, I've never seen you in this dress... but it's too fancy to wear while walking around."
For a few very embarrasing moments, you sit down at the foot of your bed, staring resolutely at the wall as you wait for things to return to their natural form, and as Marigold gets dressed.

". . Okay." She said, and you turn around- You- or she, rather- is wearing a forest green tunic with long brown gloves going up her arms, baring her shoulders. "The . .silver lines didn't look right, so I hid them."

"Hmm... this is better than any mirror." You say.
"Except I'm prettier." She said, and stuck out her tongue, and giggled. Then she took a deep breath. "Okay. So. I'm Ishelda. Seriously powerful sorceress queen of New Arcturus, Jewel of Triune's Gift, holder of an artifact sword. . "
She gulped, and opened her eyes. "Speaking of the sword?" She asked, in your voice. "Where *is* Rikar?"
She looks this way and that, and then found and grabbed the sword. . and couldn't lift it.
>>
>>20688628
"Come on Rikar, play nice."
Take it and strap it around her waist ourselves. She probably won't need to draw it.
>>
>>20688628
"Hmm... I don't carry it *everywhere*, so it shouldn't really be a problem. It does what it's wielder wants, so I wonder if it will look different for my disguise."
>>
>>20688628
"Strange. Rikar must not care for you, but why?"
>>
>>20688650
Which is to say, pick it up and see if it looks different.
>>
>>20688614
Seeing as dwarves are around 8 feet tall, no.

And we are going with the knight story though, right? That means we should try and copy Kristoph's accent.
>>
>>20688669
We should just stick with brother. At the very least, we should pretend to be a knight from Old Arcturus, to explain the accent.
>>
>>20688628
>"Except I'm prettier."
"Of course. The princess always has to be prettier than the queen."
>>
>Marigold is a head shorter than you; she's 5'4 or so, while you're closer to 5'8.

"Strange. Rikar must not care for you, but why?"
"I. . don't know." She said, looking rather disturbed. It's eerie to see your expressions on your own face change so swiftly. You pick up the blade, and strap it around her waist. Experimentally, she walks this way and that- and you note that she sways her hips a lot more than you do.
"Rikar doesn't bother me if I'm not trying to draw it, so I can do this." She said. "Okay, I'm Ishelda. I think I can do this. What was your name again?"
"Cain."
"Cain, right." She says. "Try and change your accent. To something more like. . Leon's, I suppose. Something cultured, while still Arcturian."
You say a random few words in your new experimental accent, and Marigold grins. "That's perfect! It's exactly the way the Old Arcturian knights used to speak."
>>
Didn't she pick up Rikar before? It probably doesn't like the deception.

>>20688726
"I think you're swaying your hips too much."
>>
>>20688681
Being the brother sounds retarded and Belethor would guess there's magical hijinks going on. There's too many hole's in the brother disguise
>>
>>20688726
"Good. Now, the general idea is that I was busy doing things here, and that's why I didn't go west. He's never heard of me because I don't like being well known, and try to avoid the spotlight."
>>
>>20688726
"We should try to find out why Rikar doesn't like you. That's really strange."
>>
>>20688784
We never told him about our family. Plus with Ishelda right there, he can think whatever he wants, he's got no way to prove it. We can preempt any attempts to oust us using the communication rings.
>>
>>20688785
No, we were on our own adventure. And we only just got back, which is why he hasn't seen us around.
>>
>>20688726
Put concerned look on

"Maybe the brother angle is a bit odd. How about I'm just a knight from Old Arcturus who arrived while we were West. There was some kind of magical time delay when Arcturus was destroyed and I arrived about two weeks ago."
>>
>>20688815
That works too.
>>
>>20688827
That's just stupid. He'd more likely have heard about a new Arcturian refugee than a reclusive brother. Ishelda would have been talking about it on the ship.
>>
>>20688815
Let's elaborate on the adventure then.

How about we were out east with Lewin's group? Would make a lot more sense.
>>
"Good." You say. "Now, the general idea is that I was busy doing things here, and that's why I didn't go west."
"Like. . sorcery." She says. "If you're Ishelda's brother, you have her sorcery, too. You had to stay here to make sure New Arcturus was safe."
"He's never heard of me because I don't like being well known, and try to avoid the spotlight."
"That will work." She said.
"I. . think you're swaying your hips too much." You say, and she nods.
"Right, sorry." She says, and walks, very deliberately, to the other side of the room and back. It looks much more. .familiar.
"Or maybe I was on my own adventure, and only just got back." You say.
"Where to, though?" Marigold asked. "And from? Maybe we can just chalk that up to. . state secrets."
>>
>>20688852
Not if we arrived when she was out west.
>>
>>20688862
"Or I was just out west with Lewin and his merry band."

>Belethor wasn't there when Lewin got back right?
>>
>>20688862
"State secrets, if he presses we make vague references to espionage, spying, quietly eliminating threats.

We have it look like Ishelda is the shining one who gets the attention and does the public stuff while I deal with the murky underside of things, it's why I don't like attracting attention."
>>
>>20688862
"Any direction except West works. Let's pretend that my sorcery is significantly weaker than Ishelda's."
>>
>>20688884
>East, derp
>>
>>20688862
"Should work. He's polite enough not to pry."
>>
Remember, kaliel knows that Mar is ishelda's only relative on this world (not necessarily true, but I'm pretty sure we told her that). Just don't want to tip her off if she stumbles onto other trollings
>>
>>20688901
That's what the communication rings are for. If anyone who knows better stumbles upon us, we tell them to play along using the rings.
>>
>>20688862
How about Cain's talent be his ability to be completely unnoticed? Like he's very quiet and stuff.

Also, wouldn't Belethor recognize our fighting style? we might want to switch it up with a shortsword and a dagger or something.
>>
"State secrets. He's polite enough not to pry, but if he presses, we make vague references to espionage, spying, quietly eliminating threats." You say. "and let's pretend that my sorcery is significantly weaker than Ishelda's."
"Right." She says, jutting her chin forward, and donning a solemn facial expression. "Are you ready?"
>>
>>20688933
"I think I'm ready, Ishelda."
"...Wow this is weird."
>>
>>20688932
If he asks, say it's an Arcturian style. It's not technically lying, and it explains why they're similar.
>>
Seriously, the brother angle is a bit weird. A knight or attendant or some such makes a lot more sense.
>>
>>20688956
Didn't we tell him we learned to fight from Redglare?
>>
>>20688933
"You should look and see if the corridor is clear. It'll look weird if we both come out of the room together."
>>
>>20688933
"Of course I am Ishelda. This is going to be fun.

If he asks you to do any magic simply say you're exhausted by wizardry practice.

Now let's find Belethor and mess with his head."
>>
>>20688964
We trained with Redglare. Not necessarily learned from him. And Cain could have done the same training anyways.
This brother angle won't work on anyone except Belethor, but the whole point is to mess with Belethor. If we end up messing with anyone else, we should pretend to be a knight from Old Arcturus.
>>
>>20688933
Marigold/Ishelda goes out the door. We go out the window and scale the wall back to the ground.
>>
>>20688986
See, that's the thing, the brother angle works only on Belethor and he's the one who would spot all the holes in the story.

Why didn't Ishelda ever mention a brother? She was very candid about everything else. It seem that this is bound to fail lamely.
>>
>>20689017
Because he never asked.
>>
"This brother angle is a bit weird." You say.
"But only people directly related to the line of nobility gets the hair." Marigold said. "Only people with sorcery, I mean, which is the same as the line of nobility."
"I think I'm ready, Ishelda." You say, and blink. "Wow, this is weird."
"And earlier wasn't weirder, Cain?" She asked.
"... you should look and see if the corridor is clear. It'll look weird if we both come out of the room together."
"Right." She said, and peeked out of the doorway.
<All clear.> She said, through the ring.
<If he asks you to do any magic, simply say you're exhausted by wizardry practice.> you say. <Now let's find Belethor and mess with his head.>
<Right!> She says, and makes her way through the halls. Head drooping, you follow, sauntering behind yourself.

"Pleasant to see you, Ishelda." Belethor says, nodding to her. You note that Marigold's face hardly moves a fraction, and she nodded- is that how you act? He turns to you. "And this is... ? I'm afraid to say that I hardly know many of the people in the castle."
"Belethor, meet prince Cain." Ishelda says. "My brother."
"I. . didn't know you had a brother." Belethor said, his eyes widening a fraction. His eyes darted to you, and back to Ishelda.
"He's very shy." She added, and giggled softly, covering her mouth with her hand.
Belethor bowed to you- he seems to have bought it, for now.

If Mari: <what we actually think of him>
>>
>>20689233
"An interesting young man. I haven't met him, or more precisely he hasn't met me.

He embodies the virtues of knightly honor quite strongly. Very beholden to chivalry. I'm guessing he's planning on one day slaying a dragon and rescuing a princess to get married to her. Hasn't seen all that much of the world yet, he'll likely mellow out as he becomes experienced.

Excellent fighter, unique talent, pretty much a living spellbook, happens to like my sister but it seems more likely that as he and Marigold spend more time together they'll aim for a traditional storybook romance together."

"Sir Leon? We haven't met, and if I went off what Ishy's told me, I'd just be giving you her opinion."

I've heard about you from Ishy, she says you're from Sosaria the only non-Talented member of a royal family characterized by its powerful Talents. You could even say that Sosaria as it is today is built on the royal family.

How does it feel to have had to rely on your wits and cleverness in the company of your brothers? If you could awaken your Talent would you do so?

Also Ishy never asked this but could you give me a basic rundown of your family geneology? Where your mother's side of the family came from?

>>20689391
"That would be appreciated," with a smile.

We're not unused to this body. Just the penis.

Also, we can modify the fighting style by fighting with two weapons at once. We've done it before.

And since when have we always been reliant on Rikar.
>>
>>20689457
Not quite yet. We should build up our persona a bit more, get him more comfortable talking to 'Cain' and then we pop that on it.

>>20689457
Sure this works but minus the "she needs a man in her life." More like his opinion of their relationship.

"Well, it just plain made me feel like I had to make up for it. And I would awaken it...." He said. "But I wouldn't *use* it. It'd be just another tool in my repitoire."
"Also Ishy never asked this, but could you give me a basic rundown of your family geneology? Where your mother's side of the family came from?"
"Well, my father's line is the line of royalty, but my mother's an outlier. They fell in love, despite the fact that she was just a fisherman's daughter." He said, getting a small smile. "Nobody knew she had a talent until it awoke."
"Oh, and a duel, I have heard you fight in a quite interesting fashion. I would quite like a duel." You say.
"I'd love to oblige." He said. "What weapon do you use? I don't see one on you. . Or is it summoned, like Leon's blade?"

"I'm afraid the blade I normally use was rather badly damaged on my latest adventure, and I've left it with a smith for repairs - but I was thinking we could just use training weapons in any case."
>>
>>20689530
"Whatever is at hand, I try not to be picky. Usually short swords of various styles, I might try using two of them today."
>>
rolled 34 = 34

>>20689530
Summon a weapon.

>>20689541
In a way that's obviously sorcery and not what Leon does.
>>
>>20689570
We can even utilize the failure.
"Hah. I didn't actually expect that to work. I'm not nearly as powerful as Ishy is with sorcery."
>>
>>20689549
Then we'll stick to short swords but we haven't always trained with Rikar.

Yes, it's weighed differently, but we still have the innate sense of a form we get from sorcery.
>>
"Whatever is at hand." You say. "I try not to be picky. Short swords are my main style, though."
"Oh, really?" He asked. "That's interesting. Like brother, like sister?"
You quirk your lips, and clench your fist. Mist bursts from your hand, as a ghostly sword appears and vanishes, draining your power. Finally, you sigh, and release the spell.
"Hah, I didn't actually expect that to work." You say. "I'm not nearly as powerful as Ishy is with sorcery."
"Cain." Ishelda said. "If you're duelling him. . you can use Rikar. If it accepts you, at least."
>>
>>20689591
And add "Maybe I ought to try that." TO the beginning.
>>
>>20689530
"Heh. Not quite."
Shit. Shit. IMPROVISE. We can't go with a regular weapon, and we can't summon one. Both would betray us in some way or another.

Presumably we've been taught hand-to-hand combat sans weapon by our various teachers. Grappling, punching, kicking, disarming. Kristoph might've taught us some techniques for the grapple- when you're fighting in plate, it can often come down to managing to stick a knife through the enemies' visor- and some more esoteric sword techniques like the Mordschlag. Redglare probably taught us a Judo analogue for fucking up giant demons when you're separated from your weapon, and the only option is to use their own energy against them. And of course we know a thing or two about bareknuckle brawling from our short time with Jeanne. Plus, we're not a stranger to improvised weapons, namely bricks. Is there a ladder factory nearby? We may need one.
>>
>>20689617
Decline, the Blade will change color if we touch it. and the jig will be up.
>>
>>20689617
Shit, we should have tested this earlier. If it's the same color as normal that might give away that we're the same person. We don't really have a reason to refuse her, so pretend we can't draw it?
>>
>>20689617
"You're the best Ishy."

Give "Ishelda" a brotherly kiss on the cheek as we draw Rikar from her scabbard.

>>20689637
It'll probably be the same color as usual, which we can say is because we're siblings and both sorcerers.
>>
>>20689617
"No thanks Ish, we'll stick to training weapons."
>>
>>20689617
"Now that's an iffy proposition at best."
If she's on our right (Meaning Rikar should be directly next to us) reach over and draw it out upside down, then flip it so it's right side up.
Otherwise "Let me see it then. I'd also like the scabbard, if you don't mind."
>>
>>20689646
But Zeke and Raziel are twins and Zeke isn't even accepted, let alone the same color. It seems to be to do with personality and we're pretending to have a completely different one of those.
>>
>>20689675
With a "Huh. Not really surprising that it came out the same color as when you use it."
>>
Let's pretend to try and draw it, then laugh and act like we didn't actually expect it to come out.
>>
"You're the best, Ishy." you say, and draw Rikar from her scabbard. For a moment, it flashes violet as it accepts you... and then turns a smooth golden color, like a topaz- It senses that you're trying to hide the color. You normally use your left hand for swordfighting, but Kris and Redglare *insisted* that you learn to use your right hand. . so you toss the blade from one hand to the other.

". . I see." Belethor said, grinning. He drew his own blade, and raised a buckler. "You call her 'Ishy'?" He asked.
>>
>>20689716
Grin back.
" I heard that Sir Grayson had called her that, so I couldn't resist doing so myself."
>>
>>20689716
"Yep, Grayson is grand at annoying people, when he wants to."
>>
rolled 65 = 65

>>20689716
>>
>>20689716
"Only when I want to fluster her.

I've also called her Shelda, Elda, Sis, Your Magical Super Hoity Toity Majesty, Shorty, it's my privilege as her brother."
>>
>>20689716
Let's try to use magic to boost our speed and strength a little so that we seem different while fighting.
>>
rolled 36 = 36

>>20689716
Take a fencing stance. Sword hand forward, and left above our head, ready to extend behind us on a thrust as we shuffle forward, right foot leading. He's got the advantage with that buckler, so we'll keep him at a distance and wait for him to misstep- and actually mistep, that is- and poke the buckler to ribbons with Rikar's supernatural sharpness, then disarm him if he gets aggressive, trip him up or give him a good cheap suckerpunch to the gut to get him on the ground, where we can force him into a surrender.
>>
>>20689716
"And why not? Can't I use a nickname for my sister?"
>>
>>20689716
"I'm the only one that can get away with it, I might as well use that privilege. Well I used to be the only one, I heard Grayson started doing it. Maybe I should pick a more annoying name."
>>
rolled 6 = 6

>>20689716
>>
rolled 66 = 66

FUCK THE PO-LICE
>>
rolled 60 = 60

>>20689794
you'd think I'd stop doing that...
>>
>>20689802
The dice seem to support the idea that fencing is a terrible style to use in actual combat.
>>
"Only when I want to fluster her." You say, and grin back. "I've also called her Shelda, Elda, Sis, Your Magical Super Hoity Toity Majesty, Shorty. . I'm the only one that can get away with it, I might as well use that privilege."
Ishelda frowned. You look back to her- and hear a clack as Belethor leaps toward you. You easily parry his strike, and knock it aside. He twirls the blade, but you're used to that by now, leaning out of the way of of the blow. you take the shortsword in your right hand, extending the blade further out than you're used to. You make heavy, cleaving attacks with the short blade, putting much more strength into your blows than normal, focusing on eroding his defense instead of sliding around or underneath it as you usually do. For the most part, he's able to deal with it, his shortsword getting more and more mangled as he parries your blows. Finally, he throws it aside, parrying your next blow with the buckler, and then drew. . a second sword, perfectly identical.
>>
He skipped back, and grinned, and started spinning toward you. Standing resolute, like a pillar, you stand there, scoring deep gashes in his buckler and blade as he tries to attack with them, slowly pushing him further back. His grin starts to fall, and he grits his teeth as you push him further back, until he has his back to the wall. Finally, you hit his sword hard enough to knock it out of his hand, to the ground-

And he glares at you, and becomes a blur. The buckler slams into your face, knocking you back onto the ground. You look up at him, and he's . . flickering, somehow. Blurring
Your head whistles loudly, and everything blurs for a moment. You groan, and close your eyes for a moment. When you open them, Belethor's holding out a hand. Everything blurs again, and you groan. Everything's whistling. . and you can't reach your magic.
"Ishelda!" Ishelda calls, running toward you.
". . wait. What?" Belethor asks, completely confused.
>>
>>20689935
"Dangit Mar, we had him going."
>>
>>20689935
"Wha- why're you calling me 'shelda?"
>>
>>20689956
This but more groggily.
>>
>>20689935
>"Ishelda!" Ishelda calls, running toward you.
<Mar, you're ruining it!>
>>
>>20689935
"Cain!
Wait, why are we doing this?
My head's ringing. You win. How did you do that blurry thing?"
>>
>>20689935
"Damn it Marigold, looks like the jig is up. That was fun Belethor.

I think we may have unlocked your talent."
>>
We can still salvage this!
The explaination is that our "actual" name is incredibly similar to hers, so we took on the name of one of our ancestors, since we didn't want such a similar name.
>>
>>20689935
"You're cheating! No sorcery or talents."
>>
>>20689998
Actually, this might work pretty well.

Of course, this depends on whether or not we want to reveal our selves.
>>
>>20690010
Isheldo? Osheldi? Nah, that's a bit weird.
>>
You try to contact her on the ring, to tell her that she's ruining it, but you can't seem to focus on it.
"Cain!" You cry to her. "Wait, why are we doing this?"
Belethor was silent for a moment, and looked between you and Ishelda.
". . You're Ishelda" He said, finally, and pointed at Ishelda. "And you're Marigold. Nobody else could pull off the accent so well."
>>
>>20690037
Exactly. Which is why we changed it. Clearly he heard her wrong. Wink wink nudge nudge.
>>
>>20690044
"Took you long enough. Mar, why'd you have to panic and break character? It wasn't even that bad of a blow!"
>>
>>20690044
"Damn. Yes. How'd you do that blurry thing? You must have given me another conccussion, I can't reach my magic."
>>
>>20690044
"Eh? No I'm Cain. We have similar accents because we both grew up in Arcturus."
>>
>>20690044
"Haha. We fooled you though. Now stop with the blurry whistly thing."
>>
>>20690044
"Mar, you screwed up."
She really has a tendency to do that. Remind never to rely on her to do anything of importance.
>>
>>20690044
"Heheh, well you are the most perceptive man in the world. I hope you don't take offense to testing my ability to deceive against you.
On the bright side, it also seems to have unlocked your talent.

...also I think I might have a concussion. That was a great hit."
>>
>>20690044
"Nicely done. Took you longer this time. We really had you going for a while. When I came to this world I came alone, it's only through sheer luck that I found Marigold and I haven't found anyone else from Arcturus.

There are two important things that happened, first I'm pretty sure you awoke your talent and went all blurry, second I can't feel my magic but I'm guessing I'll feel better after some rest and a nice cup of tea."
>>
>>20690044
>". . You're Ishelda" He said, finally, and pointed at Ishelda.
Wait, Ishelda as in Marigold Ishelda and he thinks we're Marigold? Because otherwise it would be 'pointed at you'. This is confusing.
>>
"Mar, you screwed up." You say. "How'd you do that blurry thing? You must have given me another concussion. I can't reach my magic."
"Blurry thing?" He asked. "I didn't do any sort of blurry thing. I just winged you with my shield, and you were out like a light for a few seconds. Er. . sorry about that... Ishy." He said.

Marigold- in your form- knelt over you, and white wings burst from her back, pouring life magic into you.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to!" She said, as your grasp of your magic returns.
>>
>>20690113
"You're Ishelda" is referring to us, then he points at Margold disguised as Ishelda, and says the other bit.
>>
>>20690120
Check Belethor out, see how his internal magic is doing, see if his talent is still dormant.
>>
>>20690120
"Ishelda, for you. And you used your talent, it seems."
>>
>>20690120
"You did. You moved so fast I couldn't even see you. Mar, did you see it?"
>>
>>20690120
"Just before you did, you went all... blurry, flickering in place. Perhaps your talent decided to wake up."
>>
>>20690120
"It's fine. We managed to fool him and that's what matters."
>>
>>20690120
"Don't worry about it, Marigold. I'm used to it by now."
>>
"No, you flickered before you did that. I think you might have just awoken your talent."
>>
>>20690120
"Ah, Ah, Ah, that's Ishelda to you. And You probably would have lost if it wasn't for the fact you gained a massive boost in speed right then."
>>
rolled 91 = 91

>>20690120
use magic to see if his talent woke up also what is it?
>>
>>20690120
"Hey, I actually won. I managed to disarm you. That's nice. Even if you cheated towards the end." Grin.
>>
"Ishelda, to you." You say. "And just before you did, you went all... blurry, flickering in place." You say. "Mar, did you see it?"
"I didn't see it." She said.
"Perhaps your talent decided to wake up." you say. "And it's fine, Mar. we managed to fool him, and that's what matters."
"Damn, I can't believe I didn't realize." He said, and chuckled. "A lot better than the 'Adleshi' one. Having a copy of you helped. But I didn't. . do anything special. I just. . moved."

Getting to your feet, you close your eyes, and touch him with your palms, trying to sense for his talent. .
It's bursting at the seams, flickering and blurring, trying to claw it's way out of him, like a maddened, wild tornado, or a cloud of smoke. You faintly hear the sound of the wind, and then you pull away. You have a strong feeling. . that he should have said 'Moved', rather than 'moved'.
>>
>>20690217
"Think fast."

Slash through the air at him and try to get him to use his talent.
>>
>>20690217
"Sorry, but you did. Your talent is most definitely awake now."
>>
>>20690217
"This time I didn't even transform on purpose."
then >>20690234
>>
>>20690217
"Mm, you might not think so, but... get on top of the wall, over there. No tools, and don't climb it. Just do it."
>>
>>20690217
"Belethor, at the very least it's waking up. If you don't mind I'm going tell you what it is because you did use it.

Don't think, just react."
>>
>>20690217
:Yeah, your Talent is active, and it's wind based.
>>
"Sorry, but you did." You say. "Your talent is most definitely awake now. Think fast."
You shrug. . and then slash at him with Rikar. He skids backward, completely apropos of momentum, small trails of smoke skidding from his hands and feet, until he collides with the wall-
-And goes through.

>End of thread!
>Sticking around to answer questions, whee!
>>
>>20690277
>-And goes through.
As in "there's a hole now"?
>>
>>20690277
I hope he's okay.

By go through did he just phase through or is there a Belethor shaped hole in the wall?
>>
>>20690293
>Closer to 'phased through the wall, as if it or he were ethereal'.
>>
>>20690277
So what was it that awakened it? He just really hates losing? That doesn't seem quite right.
>>
>>20690277

Sker
Belethor
Belethor's Brothers
Eidolon
Meta Soldier
VQ
Ell
Kiyara
Kristoph
Leon
The Wanderer

I'll think of more in a bit.
>>
>>20690318
Not necessarily, we don't really know what was going through his mind at the time.
>>

I think it was more 'backed into a corner', maybe.
>>
>>20690342
>Laid, not layed, goddammit.

Also, SMUTFAG! COME HITHER!
>>
>>20690342
Oh god...

>>20690349
Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I don't think it's that but that's what it looked like so what actually was it?
>>
>>20690318
Talents aren't as clear-cut as that. As much as can be explained, it was losing at *something completely mundane*, that he takes pride in, despite all of his determination, focus, and skill. It was, no matter how much he practiced, being shown that there was *someone better*, and realizing that no matter how hard he did work, there always would be. It was being backed into a corner.
>>
>>20690342
Looks like somebody really enjoys question time.

Also, how come we've never gotten a drawfag for any or Exabyte's quests? This must be rectified
>>
>>20690301
Ah, okay. Thank you.

>>20690342
I was about to tell you to get back the mahou shounen, but I noticed there isn't a thread on the archive front page right now. So I'm guessing you're simply going through withdrawal.
>>
>>20690342
I'm pretty sure Kiyara and Ell get laid regularly as they're going out together.

I'd ask about Marigold, Raz and Kal but I'm pretty sure they don't.

Does Zeke get laid? Does he take girls up to his room to show them his art?

Grayson obviously gets laid just as much as he chooses to.
>>
>>20690381
What's Meta-Soldier been up to?

I wonder what's going through his head right now?
>>
>>20690437
"Jesus christ why does the protagonist keep trying to screw people while shapeshifting?"
>>
>>20690400
Ugh, I hate that quest. No, I'm just bored and in need of a good laugh. Exabyte always has something funny to say whenever someone asks a question like that.
>>
>>20690381
Ahaha. So he cheated just like the people he hates who rely on their talent. And then refused to admit it to himself.
Well we sure showed him.

Hmm, if ghost-sex counts then Sker dying a virgin doesn't really answer the question.
>>
>>20690490
"FUCK YOU MAN! I'm just sitting here trying to keep you assholes from messing with my head by getting shit-faced and then you had to go and do that! A man can only do so many things while drunk!"
>>
>>20690470
It's not cheating to use your talent, it's rude to pull them out in the middle of a duel they aren't expected but it wasn't something he did on purpose. Now he has another skill in his repertoire. Now he can duel with Leon neither of them holding back, now we can throw sorcery around during our duels. It'll be fun.

>>20690476
What about Zeke? Redglare?
>>
>>20690523
Sker's not in the ghostlands, he's in Raziel's staff.

>>
>>20690535
Well, well, well. Then he may have died a virgin, but he isn't necessarily a virgin anymore.
>>
>>20690476
Sardriel? Neiriel? Romulus?

Speaking of Romulus, how did Neiriel seduce him? I imagine it wasn't hard but I think it would be pretty funny as an Omake.

Ummm, Lord Sirius? Feegul?
>>
>>20690558
Clearly this is the reason Raz keeps so many burly ogre men in her staff.
>>
>>20690535
Not all the time. The totems just summon his ghost on demand, don't they?
And anyway, it looked like he was going for Raziel so that's hardly a setback.
>>
>>20690470
Yeah, it's going to be fun rubbing that in next thread.
It's not exactly cheating, but a bit unfair. At least.
>>
>>20690502
He died channeling the future into the present, knowing *exactly* what would be required for a scrawny, weak, untrained ogre to take on and kill two minotaurs. If there was a single chance for him to kill both of them and survive, he would have taken it. He died to save his people, to save New Arcturus. . He died a seer, a wizard, even fighting like a legendary fucking ogrish warlord.

>>20690531
>Zeke
Other than leering at human women ever so often, he's much too shy to actually flirt with any of them.
>Redglare
Quite a bit. He's a gentle lover, and women- orcish, mostly- keep coming back for seconds. And thirds. And fourths.

>>20690558
>>20690580
No, Raziel has a completely different staff made for that. It's closer to a rod, actually, and doesn't carry any spectres or enchantments. (She can't figure out a vibration enchantment, and she *definitely* doesn't want to ask Zeke for help.)

>>20690568
>Sardriel
As much as he wants.
>Neiriel
Not so much, any more, but she spent a few long weeks with Romulus.
>Romulus
See Neiriel- and he lets women seduce him, but he doesn't actually persue anyone. So. . every few months or so.
>Lord Sirius
After his wife died, he hasn't had anyone.
>Feegul.
Kobolds all identify as males for the most part, and some kobolds just lay a bunch of eggs ever so often, and the non-egg-layers fertilize them. So they don't get laid, per se.
>>
>>20690476
Hey, what's Romulus's talent?

Nope. She hasn't even considered it, and if she did, they'd have to be willing- not to mention, they're ogre *warriors*. They'd break her.

He's currently having a fling with two of the female councilors (and they don't know about each other).
>Azariel
Before he came to this world, he had his own harem of bird-bitches, met Raz's mom, all sorts of stuff. . but he got too old in prison there before he escaped, and he doesn't feel that sort of desire anymore. And then he died.
>Great Wyrm
There's an entire race of futa-snakegirls who worship him. Some handmaidens feel. . .*very* close to him. Nuff said.
>Bubbles
Nope. He's a robot-artifact-thing.
>Kell
More than any other character in the entire Quest. More than *sardriel*. So much pollen. SO. MUCH. POLLEN. Marigold is his best wingman, by making the flowers bloom.
>Gehenna
He ambles about in human form when he's on break, in Triune's Gift, but everyone thinks he's too humdrum and not very interesting.
>Cassiel
He's younger than Raz and Zeke, and he died on one of his earliest trips out of the tower. Nope.

>>20690852
As for religions, hardly any. some small villiages have small gods they worship, and there's the Cathedral of healers in ursae who semi-worship some presditgious healer from the past, but that's it. I've been avoiding giving it a name, for only the dragons know the world's real name- they're the only natives, and they're all dead.

>>20690867
>Qu'azlith
Being heat-blinded, she got really, really touchy, and that's a turnoff for their kind, so nope.

>>
>>20690925
>not to mention, they're ogre *warriors*. They'd break her.
Doesn't she have any non-ogre totems? Can't she just shapeshift to an ogre herself?
>if she did, they'd have to be willing
Can't she summon them as mindless to just toy with?

Seems a lot better than a shitty non-enchanted rod. Ghost blowjob, woooo wooo!
>>
>>20690969
Something sounds wrong with that, actually- and the other worlds don't particularly matter for the most part, other than for origin stories.

>>20691033
She has a dragon totem.. but that's even worse. And she's wary of shapeshifting now that she has wings- it'd be impossible for her to duplicate the spell exactly without writing it, so trying to make a chimeric form a second time could kill her. Way too much work for a quick schlick.

She already has a lot of qualms using them in their mindless state already, and she can only guide them to 'kill this' or 'fight that'. That's why she uses spectres for combat only, and she has moral issues with giving them minds and then enslaving them. Also, she hasn't even considered it.
>>
>>20691106
There's another non-ogre totem that you're forgetting. Azariel. She can't have her brother so her father's almost as good...
Ok, that's not going to happen. We'll just have to find her a better stick.

That just made me think, we could get Kaliel to make a dildo. Like, a warm living spurting one. And it can be fluffy. And we can call it Dave.

... I remember when the craziest things in these threads was silly bullshit like going full Aquaman on a nat 100. Or writing over-dramatic, hammy tl;dr lines and diplomancing the SHIT out of intended antagonists. Or becoming the Adeptus Mechanicus for giggles. Or making tiny adorable trolls with death metal. Or killing demigods with bricks! Some of these things I did, and some were by fellow posters. Things that were fun for silly high adventure and comedy, in parody cyberpunk or light-hearted fantasy.

I remember when these threads didn't regularly make me cringe with /d/ gittery out of left field, and ruthless shipping, when the posters weren't always so dang hyperactive and foolish in the afterthread, and random namefags who stick around for maybe a thread before disappearing and being replaced with a new random namefag, and... Just plain nonsense like this. I remember when these threads were unabashedly good and entertaining, and not merely okay with the strings attached of severe gittery to sift through, during and after-thread. How have we fallen so low?

I hope we're an asexual being that cannot possibly see the need, value, or rationality behind sexual reproduction. Because otherwise, it doesn't matter, there will SOMEHOW be waifufaggotry. Not romance subplots, but no, this horrific cancer of that which is waifufaggotry. The hideous stain of idiotic focus on such plots, to the exclusion of all else.

In Nearfuture Cyborg Quest, despite our thing with Amy, it wasn't a problem. That was just a romantic subplot and some healthy character development that never took the spotlight.

It first reared its ugly head as a threat in the original Sorceress Quest- it was inevitable, since the idea came from HUHAEUAHE BE THE LITTLE GIRL goits- and you shut that shit down and made something wonderful out of something I thought would go horribly.

In Space Cyborg Quest, it seemed a threat with all the harem gittery, but Dave being Dave, it wasn't a problem, and at least there was precedent in it because Dave was basically a collective avatar of /tg/ inserted into the body of the protagonist of Human Revolution, before being given some distincting personality. There was precedent for harem nonsense.

And now it's here, in full force. "HURF DURF KIZ DE GURL LOLBONER DILDOS WINCEST SLUT QUEEN GOOD END." It's fucking stupid and it's shitting on what was once a nice, lighthearted quest. The shit with Kaliel? That's cool, that developed somewhat naturally. But there is a constant undercurrent of sweaty, neckbeardy intent to shove us towards out-of-character harem idiocy that makes no bloody sense. If the waifufag levels keep increasing at this rate and strangling out all the lighthearted adventure fun, Exabyte, we WILL end up with the next Mahou Shonen Quest. Except it'll be even worse. Because unlike MSQ, there was a time when these quests were good.

>>

Behaving, or acting, like a git.
>>
>>20691724
dude, it's not to be taken seriously, there will be no dildos if Exabyte don't allow it. Don't panic
>>
>>20691748
As said by >>20691759 and >>20691771

Gittery. Verb. To act like or be a git.

Git. Noun. Plural, gits.

1. A contemptible person.
2. A silly, incompetent, stupid, annoying or childish person.
>>
>>20691724
>It's fucking stupid and it's shitting on what was once a nice, lighthearted quest
It's still lighthearted. Only you're not being lighthearted.

>sweaty, neckbeardy intent to shove us towards out-of-character harem idiocy that makes no bloody sense
Exabyte will never take suggestions like those. They're called jokes.
>>
>out-of-character harem idiocy
Just an official ruling, this will *never* happen. Ever. If you guys somehow achieve a harem and resolve all sorts of character issues without people *dying*, you might get one if it fits the characters and the setting.
But if you fail, you'll just piss everyone off and get people leaving New Arcturus forever.
>>
>>20691724
I take full responsibility for starting us down this path. People were starting to get all weird about Raziel, and I wrote something to kinda get that of their systems so they wouldn't bring it into the actual quest.
Frankly, I think you're being a tad overdramatic. Trust Exabyte. He's not a machine that takes in suggestions and spits out quest, he's a person with judgement. He isn't going to take suggestions in the after thread to affect the main quest. He isn't going to take troll suggestions that are going to ruin the game for everyone. He isn't going to turn Sorc Quest into fetishquest, nor has he.

If you're mourning the afterthreads? Blame me, I brought the smut. I'm not going to apologize for that though, because this is the proper time and place for it.
>>
>>20691870
You wrote the first soulfire/raziel story? Why has your writing become so much worse since then?
>>
>>20691790
Ok, I get it now.
But I think they're both nouns. Like idiocy is to idiot. "He's gitterying" sounds stupid.
>>
>>20691850
Aw, man.
>>
>>20691884
Yup. I also did the Dave/Amy/Lucca three way.
I switched up styles because the one I used for the soulfire/raziel took forever and would never get finished. If you tell me what you liked/disliked about the newer ones, I might be able to find more of a happy medium between actually getting it out and making it better.
>>
>>20691974
Your newer stuff reads like a cheap porno movie. It's just generic fucking, you could replace the names of the characters involved, and it would still work for any sci-fi/fantasy with a sorceress or cyborg.
And you really like writing about anal. Too much, imho.
>>
>>20692042
In that case, look forward to the Kal/Ishy I'm working on. The focus is much more focus on feeling and romance than on the actual 'action'.
>>
>>20692089
I like that
>>
>>20692089
I hope so. Otherwise I'll have to write it myself.
>>
I always welcome criticism. Don't hesitate to call me on stuff when I post it.
As to the anal stuff, fair enough, that's my own biases. I'll try to cut back on that.
>>
>>20692221
Hmm, I hate it when people write nothing but "so hot" or "that sucks" in response.
Most people never say why.
>>
>>20692322
Indeed. I also consider criticism to be the best way to improve at something creative, and I'm always looking to improve.
>>
>>20692322
With "that sucks" you should tell them where they went wrong, but do you really expect someone to analyse literary devices and shit while fapping?
>>
>>20692381
Of course.
>>
>>20692381
Oh gosh no, just give me some vague direction about what they didn't like. For example as what said earlier, "too much anal imho". That's something I can change very easily, I just need to be made aware of it.
