Good evening /tg/! It's time, once again, for the civilization quest! Unfortunately, with the worst sense of timing in the world, dinner just finished cooking, so tonight will be a little late. Still, if you're ready to roll, just say as much here and I'll be back as soon as possible!

Previous thread is archived here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20597759/

Theme music for this evening is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cHasR3ftpUM&feature=plcp
>>
Awesome, this and Sprigg's undead civ thread are by far my favorites. Can't wait to do something fun.
>>
Yesss.

Just want you to know I went back and read every single one of these since I found them so intrested.

I am now ready to begin.
>>
>>20623878
Do you like the idea we had at the end of the last thread? Search for a war god and up our military strength?
>>

Oh yeah! Civilization thread!
>>
>>20623900
To be honest the Gods seem very impartical and since they threw the first attack it seems more likely to support them. At least that's what I think.

If you ask me, we should try learn how to turn leather and wood into shields. Might be good at bollocking the javelins.z
>>
>>20623940
Well, we haven't exactly been praising the gods so far. If we throw them a sacrifice I would think they'd be more likely to support our claim. Military tech is also a good idea, but we need immediate strength. That's why I think upping our herbalore would be good. We can upgrade it to potion craft and dope our warriors for the battle field.
>>
And I'm back. Thanks for the kind words, folks. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. The only downsides to this thread are a) I have little time to run games with my in-person group, but oh well; and b) I really wish I could spoiler things for you folks, but I know I mustn't! Anyway, without further ado...

Your Wise Ones return to studying the copper and a way to use it as protective clothing. Through long experimentation and trial, they believe they are on the edge of a breakthrough!

Your hunters head out from the village, filling the surrounding area with so many traps, it's actually rather hazardous to walk around outside the village walls!

Problem with doped warriors is they're not exactly always friendly after they've killed everyone we point them at.

Plus shields are easy to make, basically just hard wood with some leather around them to make sure they don't crack on impact.

Also, shouldn't be too hard to add a copper rim, though right now we need to defeat these guys and try find some tin.
>>
D) Armor again
G) More training for warriors!
>>
>>20624456
D: work on shields.
A: can we send scouts up to the mountain to see if they find anything on the way? Hoping for tin.
>>
>>20624456
D) Lets have them finish up that armor breakthrough.
E) Lets hold a cultural event, use one of our food units to sacrifice to the spirits in an attempt to draw out a warrior one to help us out.

(I am willing to not do the E one if someone really disagrees with it)
>>
>>20624467
That's why we make sure that we use them like Night Goblin Fanatics. Keep them chained until we point them in the right directions, and then run like hell. We can collect them after they're done slaughtering everyone around and the drugs wear off.
>>
>>20624548
Maybe do this after we slaughter the enemies? We can experiment on prisoners.
>>
>>20624591
Sounds good, and the failed experiments will make excellent sacrifices to the gods.
>>
rolled 1 = 1

Alright, the votes are in. One action will be researching copper armour, the other needs a tie-breaker. The mountain is visible, but only from the very outer edge of our scouts range, so I'm going to disregard that suggestion.
1-3 Have the village train more as warriors
4-6 Hold a cultural event and call upon a spirit of war
>>
The wise ones finally have a couple of ideas for protection using the copper! Although it uses a vast amount of the precious metal, the wise ones present a jacket of deer skin, but with over-lapping copper scales, like a snake skin. The tribe is stunned by the bright coat of scales, immediately seeing its value!

Inspired by the new discovery, the tribespeople push themselves in their training even harder! Morale is running high, with the tribe making their own weapons from flint and wood, lacking sufficient supplies of copper.

Hell, if they don't attack soon, we may have to take the initiative, I'm sick of cowering in the village.
>>
>>20625178
If they try to attack they are at a disadvantage. We've rigged the entire area around the village with traps.
>>
>>20625378
Yea, but right now we only cower in our village and can't get to the juicy copper. If we want to stop this and they don't attack us, there is no other way. Especially it will be dangerous if we go out foraging or hunting as we will be vulnerable then
>>
>>20625408
Our military strength at the moment isn't strong enough to take them out unless we get some serious batman gambits going.
>>
>>20625425
We don't really know, do we? We don't know about their numbers yet.
And well, we are in a bad spot. We don't have access to push our weapon/armor situation, and if we go out hunting or whatever we are more vulnerable. So that becomes a problem especially when our food runs out.
>>
>>20625571
We should provoke them to attack us. And then use traps and wall as advantage.
>>
Urged on by their success with the scale jacket, the wise ones look into other forms of protection for the tribe. They hit upon the idea of carrying lengths of wood with them as protection. The initial models are crude and heavy however, being little more than large length of wood with crude strips of hide attached.

The scouts set out from the village, aiming to scout the strangers camp and discover their intentions. They only take a few days worth of supplies, given the limited distance, arming themselves lightly.

Your scouts report back after a little over a week. The enemy does not seem to have suffered unduly over winter, however their approach was slightly more difficult than the last time they scouted out the camp. The enemy had small groups of men patrolling the surroundings, making the scouts spying work somewhat difficult. The enemy still looks to have somewhere in the region of eighty adults, both male and female, as well as youngsters and elders. Their tools and weapons all seem to be comprised of copper and wood, however they don't use bows. One thing of note is the huge beasts the scouts saw in their village. Walking on four legs and brown in colour, like huge deer, with none of the beasts' litheness. They seemed peaceful, staying near the village, eating grass and being watched by some of the older children.

EVENT
Some of the tribe note that the plants discovered previously growing from the dung pile have spread, their green shoots appearing in a slightly larger radius around the original growths.

Guys, maybe we should look into the plants also. We may just be able to make booze with them, but it's a start into agriculture, and it might be a good idea to start having another food source in the village for safety reasons.

Sorry it took so long. Here is the land your scouts have currently explored. The mountains are a fair distance away, it is worth noting. Any scouts you send that way won't be back for a while.
>>
>>20626085

I do not want to search for ants.

>>
I'll say
D) Look into growing the plants and spreading them, also about harvesting them.
No second vote though
>>
>>20626306
I offer scouting to the south in search of natural caves as our second choice.
>>
Your scouts head to the south, crossing the river and skirting the edge of the plains. Although they explore as far as their provisions can take them, they sadly find no new resources for the tribe. They do discover that the grasslands stretch for a good distance however. Clearly, the enemy must have a history of roaming even greater than yours!

The wise ones examine the plants and make a somewhat startling discovery. Although very young, they are the same kind of plants that the scouts ate the seeds of, while exploring the plains. The full ramifications of this will need more work, but the wise ones believe they have stumbled onto something momentous.

Let's ask the elders. No real idea what would be a good action now.
Maybe ask the other friendly tribe if they have met the bad tribe yet?

A) This time scout North in search of caves as well. Give them extra provisions so they can stay for a more thorough search. They do not have to search a large area, just search them extensively.

The Elders are starting to get a little worried about the tribe's food reserves, although there's not an outright concern yet. They believe a major hunting trip may soon be in order.

There's a very great discussion over the hostile tribe, among the elders. No-one can seem to agree if an attack is a good idea or not. Some want the threat removed, saying the longer the tribe delays, the stronger the enemy will become. Others consider the odds too even and want to wait for a better opportunity. All seem to agree that, although the villagers may think they are prepared, the tribe isn't ready to fight the enemy head-on yet.
>>
>>20626437
She doing it Firday at 20:00 4chan time. We had just finished taking the city when Sprig ended it. WHen we start the next thread I suggest we spend 2 turns converting the whole populations of the city into undead, and then we can head west.
>>
>>20626500
Oh yeah, and we took all their priests and turned them into Acolytes (and one other unit, I can't remember). So we have a lot more magic punch.
>>
>>20626445
Hmm maybe we could do some guerilla action then? Spoiling their food, burning their huts. Maybe poisoning or some disease even?
>>
>>20626547
We should not agitate them until we know we could best them in a defensive battle. I do not want to gamble the tribes fate on this. I say we set up better defenses then go into hit and run tactics until we provoke them into attacking us.
>>
>>20626570
Well, we have a wall, a watchtower, pitfall traps and on top of that bows which have a superior range (i think) over their throwing spears. Is there much more we could do?
>>
>>20626597
True, but if they go in for a siege we'll need enough supplies to outlast them. Also we should reinforce the wall.
>>
>>20626597
Develop atl-atls?
>>
>>20626645
It's worth noting that the enemy tribe DO have atl-atls, I'll give you that one for free. All their throwing spearmen carry a curved piece of wood that lets them throw those spears with deadly range, force and accuracy.

Okay, now the advise has been delivered and digested, you can change your votes, or keep them as-is. Either way, please say so; I think I lost count somewhere...

The tribe's hunters set out, as the fishermen take to the river. Due to the threat of attack from the far bank, the fishermen cannot stray out too far and the hunters report that the herds are starting to dwindle a little, although it has yet to become a serious shortage.

The wise ones discover that the new plants in fact seem to have grown from the seeds that fell last fall, taking root in the compost they lay in. The implications of this are immediately apparent.

>>20626915
I know this might be controversal but I feel we should get some bowmen and a few spearman and draw most of their warriors out towards our village, where we can have them run through the traps, then ambush them and slaughter them.

Anyone agree?
>>
>>20626989
Lets wait a bit longer before war. They don't seem to be attacking us yet.
>>
>>20626989

could work, they might kill off our warriors before they get back to the traps though
>>
Best way to win is a night time attack. Throw some fire on there houses then fire arrows like mad at anyone still alive.
>>
>>20627071
They already attacked us before. Before they figure out armour we need to attack them.

>>20627079
THIS, even better. Have some resin wrapped arrows and then shoot them at the houses. Draw them out, pepper them a bit with flint arrows then lead them out. We can have a few more guys to hide in the trees around the village so when they get to the traps we can have a few people they come up behind them and slaughter them.
We send our faster archers. Only a small number but enough to draw a FEW out.

>>20627120
>>
> Military tactics and strategy will be entirely dependent upon the players and the votes. There are other factors, but doubtless you will discover them in time.

Laden down with supplies, the scouts leave for the north-east, aiming for the mountain range they glimpsed previously. Soon however, they encounter a problem. The vast amount of provisions they brought is actually slowing them down to the extent that they can reach no further than the tree edge they previously achieved. Less supplies and they can't go as far, more supplies and they are slowed down. It seems, unless a more efficient method of travel and transport can be found, you have reached the limits of your range.

The tribe sets to work, clearing space and turning the earth, ready to plant the seeds the plants will shed in fall. There is not enough room for the field inside the village walls however, meaning it has to be built outside. Soon, a small field is cleared, ready for the crops.
>>
>>20627170
Fine, we shall go to war. But lets have a plan ready in case we loose. If we do they'll come after us, and we'll have to get everyone else ready for a siege.
>>
>>20627199
We need to breed deer into giant ridable creatues like in Princess Monoke. That's what we should after this war.

Either way, I vote we train for nighttime battles for one action, and plant traps for another,
>>
>>20627199
Well, lets go to war. In terms of strategy a night attack by a smaller strike force would be best. We can have our main force farther out waiting for smoke. They'll be able to avoid the patrols and sneak close enough to the village to light the buildings on fire. Once that is done our main force (which are hiding in the trees or some such) should rush into start volleying arrows at those fleeing the buildings.

Our heavier warriors, those using armors, form a phalanx to protect our archers. The new shields should be able to survive a spear or two.

Let us take as many prisoners as possible, they will prove useful as test subjects and sacrifices to the gods later. Also the cows need to be kept alive.
>>
EVENT
One day, while checking the traps around the perimeter of the village, the tribe discovers a man at the bottom of one of the spiked pit traps! He is very much dead, a sharpened stake clean through his chest, but the stripes on his cheeks are visible, as he stares blankly up at the sky with disbelieving eyes; he is one of the hostile tribe.

The stranger's copper spear lies nearby, broken and bent. A handful of footprints lead back into the forest and from there, to the river. There is no sign of anyone else. Many of the tribe grasp what this must mean though - the man was part of a scouting party.

> And on that ominous note, I think it's time to leave it for tonight! I hope you all enjoyed it. The next thread will start at 4:30PM, EST on SATURDAY, barring any delay or mishap. Have a good time of it and I hope to see you all then! Archiving this thread for great justice.

>>
>>20627248
