The elegan/tg/entlemen have spoken, and this thread shall continue! New comers welcome as always, and the previous threads can be found here http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Spriggan IMPORTANT: At the end of this thread and the beginning of the next aquatic Civ thread I have an

announcement to make.

Last post: "When Varien tells Charflesh about his proposition to bolt armor onto the skins of our ghouls, the geomancer is ecstatic. Metal pours from the forges as never before, and we control heavy shock troops in our frint lines. The youngest son of the minotaurs challenges blackblood, and is quickly felled by a

blow to the cranium. The other sons look much fiercer tha that one though, and it would seem that the minotaurs were trying to glean some knowledge about the knights fighting style. A self animating plague is developed through magical practice, courtesy of Varien. This new substance is poured over the city by

reaver and gargoyle alike, and soon a thousand undead march back to the chasm. They are weak, and could be converted into other forms given time and effort, but for now they only swell the legions ranks. The shades return, and 2 more scorpions are held in prison, though no use has come up for them as of yet."

We need some support from a higher power.

Lets take our surplus food and a few spare children and start sacrificing them. We'll call upon the spirits ton deliver unto us the power of war. We'll see who answers our call. Lets infuse the sacrificial bodies with as much magic as possible to give it that extra Omph! across the spectral planes.

I guess this falls under F.

Gargoyles are sent into the city of nazzi, snatching every orphaned child that roams the streets. The victimes are chained, and plagued crops are piled at their feet. The winter winds are blowing dust and sand through the air, and soon winter will be in full force. kobolds are sent to the minotaur camp in the east, where black blood is facing his trial. The minotaurs have called off the next fight until spring, so the only question is what to do in the meantime. ( multiple issues can be adressed in one turn, or they can be ignored.) The offering will be given next turn, do we use the mysterious incantations found in the mysterious book? Or send a message of our own? (flavour text if you so desire.)

Message of our own

"We do not take their golden coin, nor do we guild are books in silver. We clad our bodies in iron, the wraiths of the night, the darkness all consuming. Bring unto us the shadows that fill the gaps between stars, that fill the stones in the furnace. Gods of Black Iron, hear our call, and cast thy shadow!"

Do this while having some acolytes chant the book's stuff in the background or some such.

D) Lets improve our technology to try and create simple machinery. Clockwork or some such. We can apply it later when the time is necessary.
>>
b expansion underground

1E work on the tunnels underground begin creating catacombs basicly expand underground where we can have our spare unneeded undead in stasis. once we have that done we can do some research during the winter.

In preparation for the ritual, Varien finds himself becoming anxious. He finds that sand flows at a fairly regular rate when a small hole is but at the bottom of a container. The same principle is true with water, it would seem. He orders that versions of each be constructed in the forges when weapons and armor cannot be produced. (hour glasses/ water clocks invented.) When the time for the ritual arrives. The children are bombarded with shadow bolts until they lose all sense of reality. They shriek and cackle, even as they are set aflame by Charfleshs' hot pokers. Tge message is delivered. "We do not take their golden coin, nor do we guild are books in silver. We clad our bodies in iron, the wraiths of the night, the darkness all consuming. Bring unto us the shadows that fill the gaps between stars, that fill the stones in the furnace. Gods of Black Iron, hear our call, and cast thy shadow!" Suddenly, the book begins to glow.. It carries a dark purple tint before flying from an acolytes grasp. Our naga recruit is knocked off of her feet as she attempts to grab it from the air. The book enters the flames before being incinerated. The flames die out quickly, leaving bone and ash in their wake. Three shadows emerge from the darkness. Silent as night. How do we approach them?

We should also hint at there will be more sacrifices.

Winter is in full swing, and the kobolds in the chasm and the minotaur camp expand our lairs in the under dark to survive the winter. With some effort, the kobolds could possibly seal the entrance tunnel and appear to vanish before the minotaurs, but they brood on te idea. Meanwhile, Varien approaches the shadows
and offers them our hospitality. The middle of the three speaks, but the sound seems to echo off from every direction. "We are here for the moment, but we have a gift and a word of warning.... Who among you shall recieve it?" The dark forms shift and seem to melt into one another before seperating, objects can be seen faintly through their bodies.

Our greatest forge master shall be the one to receive it. He should bring his tools and a portable forge with at least 3 slave zombies to pump the bellows to the meeting.

Lets improve out clockwork more. I was something automated.
>>
>>20613543
agreed
>>
>>20613543
Also, we should begin construction on a permanent building around the site of the ritual. If we want to keep these new found spirits happy they need a place of worship. Will our food budget be affected if we start making monthly sacrifices? Or do we have enough surplus?
>>
The forge master steps forward, bruns and scars showing on his fore arms. He brings a cart and some coal, proceeding to start a great flame in the chamber. " I'll speak with you, on account of my duty." He speaks to the forms, which are surprisingly cool in comparison to the room. His face is turned to face between two of the shadows, as he cannot see them. The faintest shadow steps forward, its body turning into the shape of a raven. "I am nemain, first queen of war. I shall speak in turn with my sisters, and when we are done you must choose only one gift..." A long rectangular box slides from under her shifting feet. Odd inscriptions cover the surface. "You must go to the south, or you will perish. The frozen lands will protect your future." The second shadow on the far right morphs into a large black jaguar as she steps forward. "I am Babh Catha, second queen of war. You must go east, across the ocean of green. You will find lands ripe for plunder there. here you will find only suffering." An orb of a container falls to her feet and rolls towards the undead. The third announces herself. "I am morrigan, third queen of war. The west is your destined land. where you can fell the humans who banished you, and defeat the spirits which awaken in those lands. This place will only do you harm." A small, hexagonal container slowly descends onto the floor of the chamber. The suddenly dissapear, vanishing into thin air. All that remains is a sapling, rotted in the stone, a melting shard of ice, and a grey stone, lighter than the rock of the chasm.
>>
>>20613667
I move that we follow the word of the third sister when we get the chance, taking the hexagonal cube

Sorry about disregarding clock work. I have to google the technicality of produces it still. Also, the shadows are historical gods. They are the celtic queens of war. The three grim sisters.
>>
>>20613667
The first gift, we shall move onto the frozen lands. The others mentioned only plunder and vengeance. We shall choose a new beginning, the gods do not like mortals who are greedy. We shall take the box, and apply our technology with mechanisms to help create carts to start loading our goods into. When the spring thaw comes we must be prepared to leave this land.

Throw the other two gifts into the fire, and have the zombies pump the bellows until their spirits rise up to greet the other two sisters, so they will know we do them no dishonor.
>>
>>20613667
We should also get to work on more conversion of nazzi, and making the weak undead into armored ghouls, siege horrors, and skeletal monstrosities
>>
>>20613694
That is the path of greed, they are trying to trick us. We need to play it safe and not be drawn in by supposed plunder! The sister's are known for tricking would-be worshippers into killing themselves.
>>
>>20613761
I respect your opinion but I feel it would be far better to return to the verdant lands that bore our young masters, a means of wiping the slate clean, so to speak. I feel this shall give closure and be easier to thrive in than the frozen lands
>>
>>20613778
Additionally, would the path of peace be perceived as the path of weakness and cowardice? this may be our true end, as our minions would not fare well in the frozen wastes of the south
>>
>>20613788
If we go we must be very careful. We must not be drawn into conflicts that outstretch our military strength. We must increase that strength as quickly as possible.

Do you agree though that we should continue to pay homage to all three grim sisters? As to not anger the ones who's gifts we did not choose. After all, all three did answer our call.
>>
>>20613813
That is most assuredly the best course of action in dealing with the three sisters, but when we choose, as we must, we should pay special homage to this sister. The only way to ensure her protection would be in this way, but we should still honor the other two
>>
>>20613807
Ok, we shall take the third sister's offer. Also, let us call upon the forge master when matters of the Three Sister's arrive. He can become our priest and conduit to them.
>>
>>20613813
>>20613807
Can you guys decide on a single choice?
I've written up both options already.
>>
Char flesh turns to Varien, a pained look of confusion on his face. The dark lord whispers "third" into the side of his helm, and the forge master approaches the small box. It appears safe, and he brings it to the lich. When it is opened, two objects are found inside. The first is a black crown, made from some indescribable material. In the center of the box lies an odd disc. It makes and odd ticking noise, and appears to be slowly making rotations using 3 axels. A lone voice penetrates the walls. "9 months, do not fail me." Before the shadow returns, passing through Variens body and seeping through the roof. The winds die down to nothing shortly after, spring is here.

>>
>>20613865
Leave.
>>
>>20613845
Varien should put on the crown. It is his right.

Well then, nine months to go and take our right. As I said before we should apply our knowledge of mechanisms to create some form of cart to carry large amounts of goods in. This winter should be dedicated to getting as much useful material our of the city as possible before the move.

E) practice magic on the carts to create something to power the clockwork driving them. Could just be "magic does it".
>>
>>20613854
I feel that in dealing with the city of Nazzi, we should work on the safest route to reach the interior, perhaps taking the sewers. This would allow us to flood their stores with blighted crops, weakening them, gaining troops, and then letting us jump on them. So... scouting and some recruiting of birds and the like if we can manage
>>
>>20613884
Also we should send scouts west, they should carry supplies and set up hidden emergency cashes in case we meet trouble along the way in our move.
>>
>>20613884
that sounds good too, let's do that first
>>
>>20613894
I have an idea, a gambit. We need to get as many mindless servants as possible. Once they are converted we can simply have them eat each other.

Lets start capturing rats and infect them with the plague of undeath. We start releasing them through the sewers into the city streets. The city is dirty enough and the last time a plague ran through it they were devastated. This one will cause our zombies to walk the streets and infect even more.

We can have them be the simplest of mindless zombies, we can reign them in later for more specific purposes.
>>
>>20613934
perfect application of my clumsy strategy! I defer to you in this situation!
>>
Through the use of simple mechanisms, a device is created which can be powered by moving a lever back and forth. When A stone or pice of metal is placed on the top of the device, charflesh can move the object back and forth, generating mechanical energy. Our horses are also tied to normal wooden carts, which are reinforced with our dwindling iron supply. Meanwhile, our acolytes move in the dead of night, sneaking into the deserted city. They make sure to avoid patorls of moon priests and city guards, making their way to the city center. The naga vampire slithers into the sewers in a market squarre, catching rats and other vermin as she goes. When a horde has been plagued and captured, she releases them into the streets. With the confusion, the vampires are able to gather up and large horde of undead and raise a city gate from the inside. (GAINS: 28 plague rats, 744 zombies.)
>>
>>20613992
Good, I mean to continue this plan and begin the conversion of eak zombie hordes to strong abominations, horrors, and reinforced ghouls if our iron can be spared.

>>
>>20613992
Awesome, we can use these knew zombies to power the carts. All they need to do is push a lever back and forth.

Nazzi should be devastated, paranoia should be rampant in the streets. They'll things the guards somehow let us in. This is the perfect time to launch an offensive. Their stores are already dwindling and their morale is down. They are in no way prepared for a siege.

Convert the simple wagons into battle wagons (lets call them plague carts). Before we head to the west we must prove ourselves in the eyes of the three sisters. Lets destroy us a city.
>>

this
>>
>>20614050
*think the guards, not thing the guards.

Anyway I agree with Nari, we must prepare for war. Have Charflesh prepare and offering to the sisters. Ask them to distill bloodlust into the new rotting corpses, even if it burns through them and destroys the bodies, they only have to work for a few hours.

I have a plan to ransack that city.
>>
>>20614091
Also, have Varien be present during the ritual wearing the crown. I want to see if it has any special affect.
>>
The siege grotesque is awakened, and the hordes pour forth from the Chasm. Our wagons are loaded with supplies, and only a small contigent is left to guard the entrance. Meanwhile, the deathknight and his guards awaken to angry stamping on the surface. The minotaurs musst be searching for him. He lies still and silent, unsure what to do about the situation. (He's buried under a horde of minotaurs and he has no idea what's going on. The living would Shit brix.) The army will reach the city walls next turn, and The Clouds gather, heavy with rain for the first time in memory.

Have one of the carts be loaded with a portable forge with Charflesh standing on top. Ask for the storm to favor us and call upon the spirits of war to empower the zombies for a short time.

Minotaurs descended from the mountains in the west, and we sent the knight to parlay with them. They will only let him leave if he kills all of his sons in battle. So far we have one of four down, and he buried himself for the winter with his guards. Here's the crowing ceremony. "The crown is placed upon the dark lords head before the hordes of undead. Morrigan voice is heard, but it lands only on variens ears. The cheers and cries of his minions falling on deaf ears as he listens. "My champion... Think forward, march forward, claim all that you can see. but watch backwards."

Send a detachment of 300 hundred blood lust filled zombies into the sewers first. We shall use this as a distraction, they will have learned by now that we used that to introduce the rats, and will have added guards. When we send our zombies in they will reinforce it more.

We shall wait until we see their archer's head towards the storm grates and then send the battle wagons in towards the main gate. They would be loaded with archers and our armored ghouls. The horsemen should accompany the plague carts.

The skeletal horrors shall protect the siege grotesque and abomination that follow the carts. Varien shall accompany them as well with Charflesh, who should be preforming rights to the sisters the entire time to curry protection.

>>20614345
Meanwhile, black blood broods on his fate, and the surface grows quieter. He munches on a kobolds arm to pass the time.
>>
>>20614338
Send the battle wagons forward. Along with the horsemen and cavalry. Have the wagons loaded with archers to fire back at those on the battlements.

Stop firing rocks, load the catapults with extra rotting zombies to be hurled into the city. They'll probably not be able to move much after landing, but they'll scare the bloody hell out of the defenders.

Move the horrors, grotesque, Varien, Armored ghouls, and extra corpses forward behind the carts.
>>
Char leads a valian charge around the perimeter and half of the archers on the walls run to keep up with him. Meanwhile, the catapults are loaded with the frailest of zombies, many of whom are missing appendages. These mindless undead are luanched high into the air, some being hit by lightning as it falls to the roof tops of the building. Variens group of horrors and armored ghouls are surrounded by a pack or frantic zombies. Our blood archers are trading with the defenders fairly well, and it soon becomes apperent that they are running out of arrows. Some of them have begun to flee into the city center as they gaze upon the supperior numbers facing them.
>>
>>20614436
I knew those zombies wouldn't do much being launched, but watching them suffer does my heart good.

Have char ride back, and have Varian stand on top of the forge alter with him. Even if we don't get any favor it will steel our soldier's resolve.

Have the siege grotesque start breaking down that wall. They should be ready to defend behind it, so stuff the hole with rotting zombies once it opens. They can soak up the damage.

How's our geomancer doing?
>>
>>20614436
Have char's group move into... the sewers? and crush the opposition there, in an attempt to beat the archers to the city center. Have the main force then move through the city, mopping up resistance as they near the center
>>
>>20614509
scratch that, this>>20614485
>>
>>20614509
The sewers are probably really clogged with zombies right now, we sent enough in to basically fill up the entire thing with bodies.

And sorry for kinda taking over for the battle section >.>
>>
Varien signals to char, and the geomancer turns sharply to ride back to the front. The archers on the wall tire before the reach the gate again. The grotesque charges up to the gate, the ground shaking with every step. Arrows pelt his thick hide, but do little to stop his momentum. Varien and chard join up, and shout war cry's to the legion behind them. With a thousand wails of blood lust, the army begins moving to the walls. Our giant living siege weapon begins to crack and break the stone wall, but a bolt of lightning strikes the top of its head. The large Creature falls on the weakened gate, crushing it. The zombies simply climb over the large body and pour inside.
>>
>>20614548
no need, I value your wisdom over mine in this situation, I'm more big picture anyway ☺
>>
>>20614562
Dammit, I was hoping to keep that thing alive for when we take the keep.

We need to infect as we go, make as many more mindless zombies as possible to replenish the ranks. Though our elite soldiers need to head right up the throat to the city center to mop up their defenses. Have Varien and Char's cart lead the charge.

Have Varien hold up that clock the sister gave us, have him ask for a weapon to carry out her will.
>>
>>20614585
I feel that you have this situation under control, and I must adjourn to my bed for the night. Sorry y'all. I hope that this plan goes well, and that we pillage the town and retrieve our knight. Good night.
>>
>>20614615
Just joining in, so pardon any ignorance of the current situation.

In addition to this suggestion, Ii think we should use our skeletal horrors to strike any knots of resistance as we move into the city. They can support our mindless hordes.
>>
>>20614639
all are welcome. You're probably right, the rotting zombies need some leadership so they don't just wonder off. The skeletal horrors would do great.
>>
Our legions swarm down the streets and into the ramparts. The archers fall quickly to the endless swarm of bodies. Varien follows the carnage, while the acolytes are split into different areas of the city. Our numbers grow as we reach the city centre, at the base of the keep. A square of defenders moves into the gates, many of them dressed in robes. A small group stays outside. ready to give their lives. Battle can be heard from all areas of the city as horrors and ghouls clean up any resistence. The first waves will hit the keeps gates momentarily.
>>
>>20614671
Robes? I don't trust that. Send the counts and geomancer forward to counter what ever magic they try to conjure up.
>>
>>20614671

If the shades are available, we should have them strike from the gate walls (I'm assuming thy're incorporeal?") as our zombies swamp the defenders in front. Ideally targetting any leaders. Our ghouls/horros would seem best used at targetting anyone the zombies can't bury beneath themselves.
>>
>>20614702
Oh and the naga!
>>
The first wave hits the tight mass of soldiers. The counts make their way up along the side of the army. Chanting can be heard from the castle towers, and torches rain down upon our hordes. They break off and move away from the alighted zimbies. The market is covered with spots of flame as the chanting heightens. The flames swirl through the air and a great atronoch of fire is birthed into the world, though the rain is slowly shrinking it down to size. Meanwhile, our grotesque awakens, and rises once again. A roar of gurgling rage exits the creatures mouth. It begins to rampage toward the abandoned hill where the robed preists once worshipped.
>>
>>20614780
Have Varien meet the elemental in single combat. Have him do that thing I mentioned earlier, holding up the clock the sister gave us and asking for a wagon to carry out her will (sorry, I just love meddling gods).

Hopefully our grotesque can fight the elemental too, have any of our guys he is heading towards move out of the way. The thing is way too pissed right now to tell friend from foe.
>>
Varien approaches the flame being. He grabs a robe from one of the acolytes and applies the drenched wool to his body. Our servants clear a path for the grotesque to follow, and soon he stands atop the temple. Varien begins to cast spells at the atronoch, how simply absorbes them. When the ginat undead sees this, he leaps down the hill, landing with suck force that the ground cracks under his weight. The flame creature has little time to prepare itself before the large hulk simply falls on top of it. Sizzling can be heard, and when the grotesque stands once more, all that remains of the atronoch is a seared spot on it's stomach.
>>
>>20614780

We should have our Sky Reavers drop buckets of water on the Atronarch. If the rain is having some effect, more concentrated dumps might weaken it further.
>>
>>20614883
Haha, that works too I guess. Teach me to be clever.
>>
>>20614890
Sorry, i keep posting when you post and i don't seee it in time >.<
>>
>>20614890
>>20614883
Too late, looks like Tubby took care of it for us. Have the grotesque start breaking into the keep.

Have the gargoyles and sky ravers fly over the wall to fight them from the inside. Also the shades should go in as well if what Teddy said is correct.

From here I think the battle is pretty cut and dry, we outnumber them greatly and our numbers continue to grow. Unless they have something big up their sleeve our victory is assured.

(also I just realized that charflesh is both our forge master and geomancer... I'm an idiot)
>>
>>20614924
haha, it's k. I tend to give characters multiple titles to make it sound cooler. though it can get confusing at times.
>>
>>20614924

We should herd any flaming zombies into the gate. There probably isn't a lot of room to escape the press and I imagine robes catch fire as easily as flesh.
>>
The gates fall in on themselves after several bashes by the grotesque. The Undead pour through and the priests yield just as the last of their guards are defeated. They have their king brought forth, who is sick with the plague. Varien kills him with his staff and the body is risen to serve like the rest of the undead. Varien marches to briefly sit atop the old kings throne. The city is still filled with sounds of violence, but the battle is won. The priests are chained and brought before the lich. They all pledge alliegance, but when VArien commands them to kill one of there fellows to join, only a few rise to the challenge. Gains (one acid tearer, 5 acolytes.) And that's all for tonight folks. The announcement i promised at the beginning was this. ... This civilization and the aquatic civilization in the other thread both occupy the same world. I've made sure you're a long ways apart, but if both groups continue to spread an encounter is inevitable. Upon discovering one another, you can decide between cooperation or war. Co-op will lead to the combination of both of the threads into one continued story, while war will be dealt with in a joint thread where both sides will have their own options. (I'll propably have seperate, simultaneous threads for that. I may have to get a friend of mine to do the stat counting while I write. If one side retreats, they will become npcs in the world.
>>
>>20615017
And so now we rule. The city has fallen, and we shall go to the west.
>>
Night, thanks for the Quest!

>>20615055
