So I encountered a rather interesting and Hilarious situation in Deathwatch last night. I was running an adventure for my players, a Space Wolve Tactical, a Salamander Devastator, and a Storm Warden Tactical in Scout armour. The storm warden player role-plays as incredibly stereotypical scottish, carrying around bagpipes, and talking in an outrageous accent. His Characters name is Dougie McIsaac.

Anyways, mild silliness aside, at the end of this adventure they encounter a Khorne Chaos Lord in Terminator Armour, who precedes to fuck the shit out of them. Space Woof gets decapitated and has to burn a fate point, Salamander has his Heavy Flamer destroyed, and he is knocked unconscious.
The Chaos Lord charges Dougie who has his combat knife and bolt pistol out. He swings three times, and Dougie dodges to the side, and the other 2 miss. Then this happens.

"So, I'm behind/beside him, right?"
"Yep"
"Ok, I activate Feat of Strength, and I lift him"
"Ok, roll Grapple"
"No no, I lift him"
"you can't LIFT terminator armour"
He then shows me the rules, and his with Unnatural S (x3) and T (2x), he can, in fact lift THREE terminators at once.
"Uh, alright, I guess you lift him"
"Now, I Caber toss him"
>Lolwut
"Ah'll see ya later, Laddie"
He rolls on his Strength, getting 09, which is 6 degrees of success (S 60 +10 for feat), plus Unnatural (x3) for 9 degrees, and then he spends 4 fate points, for 13 degrees of success total. The Khorne Lord in Full Terminator armour is fucking tossed 195 meters away, crashing to the ground, and taking 37 wounds with no armour, which is enough to finish him off. Had to end the session after that, because no one could breathe properly from laughing too hard.
I let him get away with it once, but this seems a wee bit broken, considered a max level marine in power level could theoretically JUGGLE Terminators.
>>
I'd let the Terminator get at the very least a free hit on the player tossing him with no defence possible unless grapple roll taken

Otherwise I'd laugh my ass off and say go for it.
>>
Well, you (wisely) disregarded that you can only spend 1 fate point on a test at a time.
That said, the unnatural stats as originally printed were wildly unbalancing, and this is just an (amusing) example of it.
Also, don't marines weigh some 450 kilos in armor? Terminators need to weigh at least 1.6 that.

Holy shit!

That is the most amusing thing I have read all night.

I now have an urge to write a Scottish accented, whiskey drinking, bag-pipe playing, woad painted, hammer wielding nutter. Sort of a Highlands Duke Nukem.
>>
>>20582751
Terminator weighs 400 in the Corebook, and a standard Marine weighs like 250-300
>>
So you're running a fluff-accurate Deathwatch campaign?
>>
>>20582762
Yeah, he's a joy to have in the group. Plays it really well, and doesn't make it annoying. Drinks booze with the Space Wolf, raises Imperial Guard spirits with his Performer (Musician).
All the better that his Scottish Accent is ATROCIOUS
>>
Okay, that's awesome, not to mention ballsy, enough that I'd let him get away with it.
>>
What's this i've been hearing about marines weighing literally a ton before putting armor on
>>
>>20582767
Yeah, I don't usually go for over the top silly shit, but in this case I just let him be touched by the emperor because it was so awesome, and technically RAW
>>
I think in the RPGs, Termie armour itself weighs that much, and a space marine himself should logically not weigh more than 200 kilograms...
>>
>>20582693
>space marines can lift terminators
This is why you should never play Deathwatch "seriously."

Marines can do some pretty silly shit.
I once played a game where the entire party was caught without armor at a feral world human wedding party for some important person and they all caught fire.

Each of them at this point in the game had a raw toughness bonus of at least 5 (one of them had 6). After Unnatural Toughness, that becomes a TB of 10.

They spent 7-8 turns, each of them, just passing their WP tests, taking NO DAMAGE AT ALL (1d10 with 10 damage soak means they're not getting hurt), killing the would be flamer-assassins and being firemen. While on fire.

Before they fainted from taking Fatigue levels up to their TB.

Then they ate all the fucking hors d'oeuvres while the humans were figuring out what the fuck happened in the last minute in-game. Fires out but still smouldering.

Life as a space marine must be equal parts hilarity and fighting.

I've heard Deathwatch being described as Space Marines suplexing Carnifexes through tables. At the time, I thought it was hyperbole. This thread has given me pause to reconsider.
>>
Hmm, so the trend of increases in lift weight so far on the table going to 20, is
112
113
225
225
450
450
450
So, I'd probably lock it at 450
meaning that a level 8 marine with 70 strength and toughness, the Armour history that gives him +10 strength, +20 for armour, and feat of strength gives him a total of 45, which, if the table never increases, lets him lift 13500 kg. Lifting weight is double, so he can lift 27000kg. Jesus.

PFFAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>
>>20582869
It's hilarious at that point that he can actually overpower a Tech-marine's servo-arm.
>>
>>20582812

Fire damage ignores TB. This isn't the game being silly - it's you not knowing the rules.
>>
>>20582894
Fire damage ignores ARMOR, not toughness bonus.
It is you who doesn't know the game's rules, sir.
>>
>>20582894
It ignores armor, and wasn't up-regulated for the horrendous natural damage soak of Deathwatch. Toughness ablation is still okay.
CRB p.26-something.
Read harder.
>>
>>20582869
Wait, wait wait. And if he rolls a Strength test, and gets say, less then 10. Thats 9 degrees of success, Plus 4 more of Unnatural, and then spend a fate point, for 14 total. Thats another 11,700 kg. This Marine can total lift 38,700 kg, or 38.7 tons. A Rhino APC weighs 30 tons. Your Rhino breaks down in the middle of a battle. Fuck this shit, this marine can CARRY IT FOR YOU.
>>
>>20582802
It's not RAW - he'd have to grapple him before lifting, as it's a combat action he's trying to do. The Chaos Lord would also have a chance to dodge it.
>>
>>20582948
Suddenly MC's ability to flip a vehicle over is starting to seem less impressive.
>>
Well, we made the Imperium's fastest space marine once, now we just do the same thing for strength.
>>
>>20582883
But, what about arm-wrestling? If the tech-marine and said super-strength marine were arm-wrestling, and the super-strength marine let the tech-marine use one actual arm and a servo-arm, would he still win?
>>
>>20582948

How do we assault enemy position? We get a squad of guardsmen into Rhino and let the Space Marine carry it to the enemies.

A traitor warband largely formed from tank regiments of the Imperial Guard.

Suddenly 200 space marines sprint across the battle field flipping all their tanks upside down before running off laughing.
>>

If your Rhino is broken, then it stops being useful, because it's so easy to repair. Just leave it.

Such a marine can carry THE PARTY and then some to where they need to go.

>>
Where's the /tg/ seal of approval when you need it?
>>
>>20582948
Lets take this to the next level, by combining it with FLASH MARINE.
So an Assault Marine, level 8, carrying a dilation field. He also has 70 agility, +5 for his chapter, and corvus armour, giving him 80 total.
AB is 8
So, -1 for encumbered, but +1 for hulking.
Jetpack doubles it,
16
Dilation field gives unnatural Ag and Speed.
32 speed.
Lets give him Sprint
64
Running, this marine can travel 384 meters in a round, which is 5 seconds.
This is 276 Kph.

Now he jumps.
He gets +30 for running, for a total of 110 on his test.

They are FFGs own chapter. They are recruited from a planet called Sacris where pretty much Braveheart gets acted out 24/7.
They all use big claymores, talk about honour, and have scottish names.

They do sometimes duel [each other, and the enemy] with claymores, though.

>>
>"Sir, Abbadon has breached the walls, and destroyed all out super heavy tanks, and our Chimaeras are retreating. What do we do?"

Can you imagine? You have finally defeated the hated fortress world of Cadia. Standing proud atop a mountain of Guard and Loyalist Dog Astartes. Vast legions of Chaos cheer and bow to you. Greater daemons are submitting to your power.
Life is good.

Suddenly a commotion from the ruins of the Imperial guard Stronghold. A bone chilling cry of rage echoes forth, and what appears to be a chimaera begins ploughing through your army going much faster then it should.

Supermarine takes a fucking leap of legend, coasting through the air, before smashing the entire tank down on Lord Abbadon's head, before legions of stunned daemons.

I don't play the game so i don't know the mechanics, but could you do a called shot or something and hit them at an upward 45 degree angle to the chin so knock back becomes airborn?

As a GM, I'm all for player creativity, but I would never allow the stuff going on in this thread to happen. However, if a player wanted to say, knock someone off their feet with an attack, I'd let them if say, they preformed and all out attack, and then succeeded on an opposed strength vs agility and like -20 to them

My Scottish Blood approves of this

Not entirely unheard of. Space Wolves had a hero who picked up a fucking land raider to save his unit from the orks.

CANON AND DUBS SUPPORTED, THE CODEX ASTARTES APPROVES
>>
We should create a home-brew chapter of Scottish caber-tossing marines, which only become marines if they can throw a large enough weight far enough, and they hone their skills until they can toss tanks.

Dougie McIsaac should be the chapter master, and his feat is tossing a Titan.

I support this action.

>Well, we made the Imperium's fastest space marine once, now we just do the same thing for strength.
That was a fun thread.

>Hey guys, if we paint him red he would go even faster!
>He's a blood angel, it's covered!
>SCIENCE!
