A week overdue and still arriving sooner than British Rail, it's AccelQuest III!

Monday morning brings school with it, and you discover that you most certainly aren't a morning person, sleeping through your alarm and thirty minutes of OMNI's pestering. Thankfully the motions of waking up late and rushing to school are well-practiced.
The school isn't a small place, either - it's a big double-decker, all in one building save the gym (which, a cursory glance at a map reveals, has its own pool) - painted in all whites. School emblem is a pretty white dove. Huh.

You get a few hellos as you wander towards homeroom, but they're very cursory and not really interested in you. It's not until you actually reach your desk that you get a genuine comment, as someone drops into the chair behind you.
"Sooo, I heard you got knocked down to the bottom level? Armor of Calamity gig not pay off for you?"

Her tone is so mocking you almost can't help but be offended. Turning around, you find the young lady speaking to be entirely out of uniform - just jeans and a t-shirt, and her incredibly long hair, plus the nasty smirk on her face. "Problem? Pretty much everyone who cares knows by now, you know. I'd watch out between classes; plenty of people might take the opportunity to try and knock you out~" she lilts off into a singsong.

That makes her recoil, looking somewhere between shocked and disgusted. "Well... well... fuck you too, then." she complains, spinning her chair around and slumping back into it, looking moodily out the window. This persists for about thirty seconds before she opens her mouth again, quieter.

>[x] Pay attention to class

Class is... almost interesting. History first thing in the morning, okay. Subject matter is the sudden upheaval the world had 20 years ago with the advent of portable AR; the entire world became closer together and a hell of a lot more peaceful with such an expressive tool that transcended language so easily. Apparently nobody's really sure where the tech came from; it just started happening one day. Interesting choice for a history class.

Out of the corner of your eye, keyed into the school's student message box, you can see the challenge flashing across the school like wildfire - before the lesson is even halfway over it seems like everyone in the school is aware. Even the teacher is giving you a disapproving look, although she can't actually complain about it.
Still, at least you learned something by the time lunch rocks around.

Almost as soon as you're let out, Sami's challenge is flashing in your vision:

You smack the accept button and fall out of the world.

>MOSS GARDEN

You have to admit, the stage is kind of beautiful - a mossed-over bridge and temple ten meters or so above a clear river, burbling quietly in the middle of a forest. You get the impression there are plenty of viewers, too; you'd be surprised if half the school wasn't there.
You curl your fist, still getting used to the weight of your armor and mentally reviewing your personal profile.

"Where are you lookin', Chr - no, Platinum Dragon? I'm over here!"
There she is, on the other side of the bridge. Looks like she wasn't kidding; her avatar is a beast, although it's nowhere near as frightening as the Chrome Disaster was - after seeing that you're not sure if anything will ever scare you again.
She rolls her shoulder back and the claws jutting from her cylindrical arm rotate into a blur with a loud whine.
"So, let's begin. So you know, I have expensive tastes."

Damn amnesia. I assume we have no memories on what she might be able to do. I say we engage her for now but play more defensively and try to goad her into an opening. Let's see what she can do before trying to use the terrain on our side.
>>
>>20542644
Good that means you can pick something nice out for me once I win.

Find a good spot to meet her advance, maybe even set it up as a trap
>>
>"Good. Means you can pick out something nice for me when I win."
Even if you're talking tough, you still start falling back towards the temple walls - maybe you'll have a better chance of setting up in there. She follows you, not rushing, simply stalking forward, leaving a miniature crater in the old bridge with every step.
Naturally, since you're both melee fighters, she doesn't feel the need to rush to engage you; you get the feeling she's treating you like prey.

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20542756
Try and check her advance and push her back on the bridge a little.
If we can damage the bridge enough to make her stumble we can go for a good hit
Don't sacrifice our defence just to try for a big hit this early though
>>
>>20542779
Agreed. We can't afford to get hit. Even if we have to drag it out, go the safe route where we can.
>>
Unfortunately there's not really much to stop her with, unless you want to attack the bridge itself. For now, you hold at the temple gates, sword at the ready; she's content to take her time, so you have plenty of opportunity.
"Hey, what happened to all that smacktalk? You're not *scared*, are you?"
Bitch.

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20542828
"Says the person who challenged someone who's level 1. With the way you're walking here, it's rather clear who's scared."
>>
She responds to your mocking with a snarl, and takes a quick step forward before she catches herself; her breath is audible. "... calm down. I know you beat Grand Jupiter. Even if he was taking it easy, it's hard for a Level 1 to beat a Level 8 fighter. Since you could beat him while he was holding back it stands to reason that you can beat me when I'm not." she talks herself down slowly.
So much for that strategy. There's only a couple of meters between you now.

>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20542916
When she lunges take a swing, go for a diagonal or vertical chop so that if she dodges back we hit the bridge but check the blow so that we won't get our sword stuck
>>
>>20542916
"Huh. Guess all that confidence earlier was fake. Maybe all of you in that club do suck after all."
And that's the last of the taunting at this point. If she doesn't bite this time, let's just bring it to her and aim to stay more defensive.
>>
That gets her. She finally loses it and lunges, stepping forward and bringing one of her massive claws forward, filling the air with a horrible whining sound as it spins, forming to a drilling point.
You cut as she comes in, dragging the blade down across her chest in a flurry of sparks, and in turn she just clips you with her attack.

Grand Jupiter was strong, but the sheer force Navy Blade possesses is overwhelming. Just being clipped knocks you back *through* the temple gates - they splinter as your armored form hits them and you bounce to a halt on the thick marble tiles, quickly scrambling and sliding back to your feet. Navy Blade herself is too big even for those and has to smash her way through the walls, but it doesn't do much to slow her down. Her chest armor *does* have a mark on it, but it's not as pronounced as anything you did to Grand Jupiter.
"I am going to enjoy taking you apart piece by tiny piece. The only downside is that I'm too high a level to knock you out of the game personally."
Looks like you pissed her off.

>>

"Finally. Some spirit. This might get interesting after all."
Dance around and try to use the terrain to create openings. She has to break through the walls and while it's not slowing her down much, perhaps we can use that time to get a hit in.

>[x] Retreat to the roof
Thinking fast, you fling yourself up to the temple roof, standing several meters over her; the acrobatic leap comes easily in spite of your solid armor. Navy Blade looks up at you.
"Are you for real...? Very well, I'll show you something interesting." She draws one arm back and the whine starts up again. Out of the corner of your eye, you see a portion of her meter disappear, and then there's a brilliant flash as the thruster on the reverse end of her claw lights up.

"This is my DEEP IMPACT!"

She strikes the temple dead on and there's a deep *whumph* that reverberates through the air, followed by the temple simply crumbling to pieces beneath you - there's no way to get out of that and when the cave-in is done you find yourself half-buried in it, seriously battered and dented.
Navy Blade stands over you, claws clicking ominously. "Gonna give up?"

Sigh. Damn high level players. Well we're pretty much screwed. 40% of our meter left and we've barely touched her.

As you slump, she raises her hand. "Don't worry, I'll make it quick."
In that moment, you burn your meter to the limit.
The dragon heads on your armor slide back and start venting, unburying you with the sheer release of power, and as her claw comes down you dive to one side, collecting your chainsword on the way and skidding to a halt a meter or two away, lightly battered by debris but not really worried for it.

We can't let this drag. The longer it goes on, the more chance she'll have to use whatever abilities she has. Get that chainsword going and let's aim to take get a solid hit in. If we can disable one of her arms, all the better. We can afford one more graze from her I imagine but hopefully we can dodge at this point.
>>
>>20543402
Charge her then use our boosted agility to dodge once she starts to retaliate and go for a big hit
>>
While she's down, you rev the chainsword and swing in, attacking her free arm - she raises it to block, but this time the blade cuts deep, grinding into the arm. She growls at you and twists, flinging you from her, and you skid to a halt several meters away, sword up and ready for the next attack. Her left arm isn't looking so good; the servos are sparking and it's dripping green fluid.
"... that's quite a finisher you have, Platinum Dragon. You even managed to harm me with a weapon that I'm all but invulnerable to." She admits grudgingly, turning to face you fully. Her meter is just shy of empty now, after that Deep Impact. "So, can you bring me down before you run out of Meter, and without being hit?"

>Meter: 80%
>DIRECT LINK
>>
>>20543599
She'll likely aim to play more defensive now and protect her injured arm. Make it look like we're going to focus on that arm and do a feint - then either get a solid hit on her body or on her other arm. Whichever one we have the best chance on succeeding with.
>>
>>20543599
Why don't we find out?
Push harder and make our next hit aimed at her head / neck area, it may not be fatal in game but it is a great psychological move and if I understand why we dismissed her so easily then it should work
>>
You hurtle in again, targeting her weak arm, and as she moves to intercept, you switch your hand to the chainsword's half grip and shift on your heel, sliding in under her arm instead and slashing up at her face with the blade from point blank.
Navy Blade, instead of trying to defend herself, sets herself so that she isn't knocked backwards - even as you dent in her faceplate and leave a deep gouge on the jutting-forward chest - and then brings both arms in in a bearhug, trapping you against her chest. The impact is astonishingly strong - first from the hit to your back and then slamming against her chest, the proverbial rock and hard place - and then you're struggling to get free before she does something worse to you.

Are our arms completely pinned or do they have some movement?
>>
>>20543819
Very little. Not enough to actually swing unless you can somehow overpower her (which doesn't seem likely).
>>
>>20543831
Well it's a chainsword... Get it active and I assume we can rotate our wrist enough to just saw through her arm or body?

If not... All I can think of is headbutt her and hope it's enough to stun her.
>>
>>20543770
Lean the blade into her face and keep it chewing at her for a moment to distract her then use that to get ourself some breathing room to possibly angle the blade into her damaged arm
>>
It takes some doing, but you manage to lever the blade against her, grinding the spinning blade into her face. The shower of sparks, up close, is blinding, and you hear her grunt and feel her grip loosen slightly - so from there, you twist and smack the biting teeth into her weakened shoulder. For a moment, nothing happens apart from her howling in pain, and then her arm *comes off*, making her twist away as it falls to the floor with a *crunch*.

Then, as part of her twist, she hits you with her free hand, taking advantage of your position to blindside you. You can hear her mutter it through the tears in her eyes.
"Wired Claw!"

Ah. That's what's up with the cylinders. The claws eject, shoving you flying across the temple grounds, extending solidly on a metal wire that runs out from her cylinder-arm; you have just about enough time to realise you're hurtling at the wall before you hit it directly and the world shatters.

It takes you a few moments to come back to reality. Sami rubs at her face; looks like she really felt it when it happened, and she's still rubbing out the tears, so it takes her a few seconds to compose herself. When she does, though...

"Thanks! Now, come with me and we'll see about emptying your wallet."

Goddamnit.

"Navy Blade certainly isn't a weak opponent. In terms of sheer crushing power and defense, she's almost on par with Level 9 fighter. She might even be as strong as me."
"Humble as always. Or is it really Amane Yurina that you're complimenting?"
"Certainly, her new form has an excellent special ability. It will be interesting to see what she does with it. For now, though, she's a lowbie. More importantly than that, however, is the new form itself..."
"... since the System reads your identity and creates something perfectly suited to you. So the only way for a person's avatar to change would be for the person themselves to change."
"Right. I'm going to do some more digging. You, too."
"I will. But you should get some sleep, Habicht."
"Heh, you don't have to call me that. Anyway, I can sleep when I'm dead. For now I'm more interested in seeing what she does. The Armor of Calamity needs to be tracked, too."

Name: Sami D.
Handle: Navy Blade
Legion: Unknown
Role: Frenemy?

Equipment:
(S, Anti-Personnel, 0%) Variable Claw - Multipurpose claw type weapon on each hand. Most of Navy Blade's upgrades went into this equipment. Claws can be spun to function as a drill or spread as a shield, in addition to being wire-mounted and thruster-equipped, allowing for a variety of special attacks. Incredibly powerful, albeit limited in scope without burning meter.
(A, Personal, 0%) Orichalcum Coat - Passive defensive armor. Although the damage reduction it provides is less than some other types of defensive ability, it applies against each hit individually, making it a powerful counter to multi-hit weapons. In addition, improves the user's mobility by 20%.

Special Attacks:
(B, Anti-Personnel, 10%) Deep Impact - Ignites the thrusters on the Variable Claw to deliver an armor-piercing impact with a delayed shockwave effect. Has bonus damage effect against terrain, and an additional chance of breaking the target's armor on a direct hit.
(B, Anti-Personnel, 10%) Wired Claw - Uses the wires present in the Variable Claw to either make a ranged attack or to push the target long-distance. Although the actual damage is lessened, the range is quite long, giving her unusual area of effect for a Blue Avatar, and it can be used to grab and throw a target, or simply to propel them through the environment for additional damage.

Hope so. Also considering that Sami's defensive equipment perfectly counterpicks the chainsword you guys did... really well. The most damning error was leaping on top of something she'd already shown capable of blowing away (although she was dumb enough to use meter as well).

I dunno if that's being too mean, but since the stakes weren't too high (and, in games like this, they can't really be), I figured it would be more interesting to make her actually hard.
>>
>>20544197
She hadn't shown she could blow up the entire building. At that point, the most she had shown was going through walls wasn't a huge issue for her. I wouldn't say it was obvious she could.
