You are a Magical Girl, and until a few moments ago, you had believed that the worst thing about your rather irritating case of selective amnesia was forgetting your own name. Granted, you've gotten over that, and the name you picked for yourself in the few seconds after you've woken up does seem quite the improvement. You could have chosen much more poorly.

Well, Murderface doesn't really count.

You're pretty sure you never came up with that.
>>
>>20475337

That aside, though, you're not too sure what you think about the latest revelation of just how much of a horrific excuse for a human being you are.

Said revelation was so smugly and snidely provided by a white-haired, sharp-faced young man in a labcoat, pointedly standing at the other side of the elevator platform currently bringing you, him and your subordinate back up to the surface of a rather overtly-fortified Research and Development facility in Kamchatka, Siberia.

Said young man being the director of this very facility, and you suspect, the beau of your very attractive and very capable former partner, who in turn - because of some PR disaster you were directly and solely responsible for, in your recent and freshly-forgotten past - was stricken from the active duty roster and exiled here, away from the city, away from her calling.

Now, you're not too sure what it was exactly you did.

But you're sure, at least, that it was horrible enough that your former partner had been made to suffer for it. Stripped of her rank, her very purpose, her very reason of existence. As a Magical Girl yourself, with your life measured in mere moments every time you venture out on a sanctioned assignment - one tends to hold on to such things with a death grip, a drowning man's desperate clawing at flotsam. It is all that is ever left for you, and you cannot imagine having it taken away along with everything else that you've lost.

Just how much have you forgotten? You have forgotten Kharn's existence in your life - six months' worth of memories, gone, just like that. A half-year blank, along with the other gaps in your mind. How can you conveniently forget a friend, after you've all but reduced them to a...a glorified secretary?
>>
>>20475341

Your irritation at your unreliable memory - and the hot, cloying flush of guilt - is only eclipsed by your confusion.

Confusion from the fact that Kharn did not kill you the moment she saw you step down from the chinook's embarkation ramp.

It would have been the very least that you deserved.

You would have done exactly the same. Hell, you probably wouldn't have waited for the damn chinook to land.

Instead, she's greeted you like a long-lost friend. Comrade, she called you. Brought you into the prison she'd been exiled to, gave you lodgings. Gave you food, drink, whatever you needed. Treated you with nothing but a cheerful, polite familiarity and the warmth you've rarely seen coming from anyone else other than your personal goddess of luck and victory.

For someone referred to the Betrayer - for someone who looked like a finely-tuned killing machine than anything else - Kharn seemed to have forgiven you for whatever you've done to her. Forgiven you for ruining her.

You're not too sure why, but she did.

Whatever it is you've done to Valnikov Kharn, you are at least sure that you will never forgive yourself for it.
>>
>>20475354

The rest of the trip resumes in silence - and it feels like an eternity before the grated steel platform underneath your feet rumbles to a halt, various machinery clanking and grinding around you as the heavy doors in front slide open. You squint slightly as the dimly-lit darkness of the elevator is banished by the remaining hours of sunlight reflecting off a snow-buried world it's opened to - and Midori, who is now holding your hand, shivers by your side as she pulls her own jacket tighter around her with her other.

With Souji well out in front - he didn't wait until the doors themselves were fully opened, seemingly loathe to spend another moment in the elevator with you - you follow him out to the base' concrete courtyard.

The bear-hunting, you gather, is being taken very seriously. Quite a few of the winter camo-garbed soldiers stationed around the base are milling about in their gear, some talking rather boisterously with each other while sipping from steaming mugs. Quite a few are gathered around a rather massive tracked vehicle - practically a flat-bed truck on treads - and they are arguing in hushed tones as they crouch over the currently-exposed engine.

Most, if not all of them, seem to be sneaking glances at the very center of the courtyard - where the object of your guilt, Kharn, is loudly and rather feverishly arguing with a jacket-clad Misaka, your arms dealer curiously without her stuffed Terminator toy.
>>
>>20475379

You figure the reason for this is that the real version - that is, the nine-foot tall walking tusked monstrosity with spikes all over - is standing ready beside her, his previously-detached right arm now in the process of being reattached. Tools of varying complexity and outright outlandishness are spread out in an olive drab tarp beside Tiny Pete's massive feet - and it's then that you only see that some of the details in the huge robot's armor is in fact bronze reliefs of screaming demonic faces.

Whoever had built Tiny Pete had quite the sense of taste.

You remove your gaze from a particularly metal relief of a horned god sitting on top of a throne of skulls and focus it on Kharn. Your former partner has also changed her attire - that is, the half-worn cardigan removed fully, with a brown leather hunting jacket worn loosely over her rather curve-accentuating blouse. She also has what looks like the M91/30 variant of a Mosin Nagant slung over her shoulder, carrying it with an almost negligent familiarity.

Both her and Misaka seem to be rather snippy about something, snapping at each other in clipped, venomous Russian. You can faintly catch some terms here and there - trunking, servos and other things - but besides that, they may as well have been fighting over just how much more spikes to add to Tiny Pete's frame. During a particularly-heated exchange, Misaka lifts off her goggles to snap at the taller woman, brandishing a glowing welding torch at Kharn's direction - the latter merely repeating just what she'd said a moment later, in an obviously tense tone.
>>
>>20475394

Souji shakes his head at this, and says something in the local language, his rough voice carrying over the chatter. Both girls look up at him, and you immediately see relief blossom in Kharn's face while a scowling disapproval comes over Misaka's. Misaka is quick to disengage from your former partner as she quickly finishes up with Tiny Pete's arm - before stomping over to her older brother and giving him a solid kick in the shin.

This sends Souji hopping on one foot, grasping his injured shin with the other, and some of the gathered soldiers laugh and jeer at this. More angry russian is spat as Misaka gesticulates wildly, pointing at Kharn, then at Souji, and then crossing her arms together.

"Looks like family trouble, Matsuda-sempai," Midori murmurs beside you, and you can't help but agree. You've decided to stay put a few meters away from them. It wouldn't really do to interrupt something like this.

Souji's attempt for a placating, apologetic tone lasts only for a few moments before he is now in a shouting match with Misaka - and Kharn is worriedly squeezing his arm, murmuring something in a rather contrite tone. A couple more moments of this, and it's then that the Director pulls his arm from Kharn's grasp, throwing both his hands into the air and then turning on his heel to stalk back into the base.

"Don't let her get hurt." He grumbles underneath his breath, his lab coat unfurling behind him as he passes you by.
>>
>>20475403

You murmur to the affirmative, glancing at his retreating back before turning to look at the remains of your little party.

This bear hunting trip is off to a barely-auspicious start.

Well, at least both Kharn and Misaka seem to brighten up as they finally see you. Misaka in particular breaks into a run after exlaiming your name, all smiles, and she nearly tackles you into the snow-covered ground as both you and Midori make your approach.

Kharn offers you a warm smile, her crimson-pinned black eyes glowing from behind her glasses. "Ah, comrade Murderface. I trust your sleep was a peaceful one? I heard from Midori that you seemed to be having a nightmare of some sort. Is everything alright?"

Well, yes, of course. You just dreamed about her tearing you apart with a giant chainsaw, after all.

How do you respond?
>>
"Everything's fine, what's the plan for the hunt?"

We should probably try to confront and apologize to Kharn for the past in private when we get the chance.
>>
>>20475450

This, definitely. Kharn doesn't seem to hold a grudge for whatever we did, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't apologize and ask her forgiveness.
>>
>>20475408
It was a bad dream, but it had a happy ending.

Please call me Chiaki, I don't remember much but I know that Murderface would be incapable of being Warmaster, but maybe Chiaki could handle the responsibility.
>>
>>20475408

"More or less. Might have been something I drank, or didn't drink."

Must be some really tough bears that we're hunting, if it requires three MGs, an escort of soldiers, and Tiny Pete.
>>
>>20475408
"So, what does everyone have? Are we all using hunting rifles or are we bringing bigger guns?"
>>
>>20475482
Wait, what if Kharn has forgotten as well?
>>
>>20475482

Kharn might have retired voluntarily due to some revelation she had upon discovering Murderface. Either she doesn't resent Matsuda's role in her (voluntary?) fall from power, or it's a very cold rage that she's nursing underneath all that warmth.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure Pete is here mostly because Misaka wants to give him test run after repairs.

You manage to work up a small smile of your own, as strange as it feels to do so, before you reply. It must have been something you drank - or didn't drink - and it was nothing really worth worrying about, much less bringing up in conversation. You say this as you reach down and pat Misaka's head, her face still buried in the bulk of your jacket, her arms tight around you. It doesn't feel like she's crying, but with how the jacket itself is thick, you can't be too sure.

You give her another pat on the head just to be sure, and rest your hand there. Physical contact had always been a balm to Misaka's tantrums, but you get the hint that there's more to this than just her usual antics.

"Ah, I see. This I understand." Kharn says after a moment, her smile widening. "And you are still as secretive as ever. Always holding your cards close to chest, even if friends only want a small peek to find out which card to palm to you, eh?" She shakes her head, her long black hair swaying with the motion. "It is good to see that you still have your wits about you, but I would like this time and place for you to be able to relax even a little bit, I think." Its' then that her smile turns into a rather cheeky sort. "Even if you, ah, have been relaxing enough to sleep in the same room as your subordinate."

Midori opens her mouth to indignantly reply, her cheeks crimsoning, before you nudge her into silence with an elbow to her side. Kharn is clearly just ribbing the both of you, after all. If there's anyone who you can trust to not jump at conclusions right away, it's Kharn, making that little jab purely jest and nothing else.

You let Kharn amuse herself before you ask her about the plans for this hunt.

"Ah, yes, of course." Kharn nods, before gesturing with one of her clawed hands towards the massive tracked vehicle that is now being refueled, the smell of diesel stinging your nose. "We will be using this to get to the hunting grounds, which is a few kilometers to the north, into the mountains. I have already sent an advance party to get the horde's blood riled up, as it is. This way, we do not have to wait for the bait to work before we can start killing."

It's a bit amusing how she uses 'killing' instead of 'hunting'. An interesting personality quirk, for someone with black skeletal claws for fingers and metal-plated limbs for legs and feet.

"We will be escorted by a ten-man team - just in case we are overwhelmed, or if we need more bait to work with-" This part she makes it a point to say quite loudly, bringing some hooting from nearby soldiers. "-and after we have killed enough, we will be taking the same route back, with our quarry, on the same vehicle. Or before sunset arrives, whichever comes first." KHarn nods again, with finality. "That is all, I am thinking, unless I am missing something...?" Her sentence ends with a querying note, and it's then that Misaka slowly disengages from you, her eyes slightly red. She scowls up at Kharn, before turning back to you, all smiles once more.

"Tiny Pete will be coming along, too." Misaka says, her voice slightly hoarse, probably from all the yelling earlier. "This one needs to make sure that repairs are taking, and combat routines are uncompromised." She must have seen the look of concern on your face that she blinks up at you, before pulling her goggles down to hide her eyes.

>>20476066

"A-anyway, Murderface, it is okay, isn't it? Misaka can bring along Tiny Pete to your bear hunt?" Three slits of bright green light encased in olive drab resin looks up at you pleadingly. "B-big Brother said that it was supposed to be for you, so...Misaka has to ask if it is okay..."

You blink at this, and Kharn stares pointedly at you before shrugging. Even Tiny Pete, with his tusked helm and crimson eye lenses, is looking at you with expectation. The other troops are looking as well, some of them looking at Tiny Pete with unabashed astonishment and excitement. Boys astonished at seeing a walking robot, even though you're positive that they have bigger ones walking around here somewhere.

What do you reply?

[]Sure, Tiny Pete can come. As long as he piledrives one of the bears for me.

I wonder what Kharn meant by her saying this?
>"Ah, I see. This I understand." Kharn says after a moment, her smile widening. “And you are still as secretive as ever. Always holding your cards close to chest, even if friends only want a small peek to find out which card to palm to you, eh?"

It was just a dream, albeit a disturbing one. And probably one that will make us ask that Misaka and Midori, and others whore are not combat specialists, stay far away during the Gold Weapon training.
Also. You know if Souji has been told about us... I wonder why he's consistently insulted or been hostile to us.

I mean, Kharn was surprised that we didn't shoot his knees out just when he gave his "I'm not impressed" first impression.

What was this guy thinking, mouthing off to somebody who he has only heard stories of violence about?

You smile down at your arms dealer - and despite her strangely-wrought goggles covering half her face, Misaka has never looked more like the child she was. It's easy enough to forget that, considering here ease of handling a rifle twice as long as she is tall, and that she had single-handedly brought something like Tiny Pete to lumbering, demon-smashing life. But she is still a child, a little sister you've never hand.

You ruffle her hair and tell her that yes, Tiny Pete can come along. But only if he performs certain wrestling maneuvers on any bears he comes across during the hunt.

Misaka all but positively beams at this, whooping before jumping up and throwing her arms around your neck in an embrace. "Thank you, Murderface! Misaka will not forget very kind, very pretty, and much BETTER big sister Murderface!" Misaka turns around to glare at Kharn, goggle-slits flaring, and the taller woman blinks at this, looking rather mollified. The arms dealer sticks her tongue at your former partner, before letting go and then fussing around Tiny Pete once more.

You glance towards the huge, walking monstrosity - and you have the strangest feeling that he's looking right back at you. You give it a nod, and after a moment, it nods back, courteously, before turning around to face Misaka as she continues to double-check his systems.

Kharn manages to work up another smile before shaking her head. "Now, this one is surprising. Murderface, you...you will make a good mother, someday. But most likely not right now, as you spoil children far too much." She laughs, slightly, ignoring Misaka grumbling at her from behind Tiny Pete's bulk. "But there is at least a tender side of you. At least you have not forgotten that."

I didn't think we HAD a tender side.

Really, the whole amnesia thing felt like that moment when the Grinch suddenly feels his heart grow 10 sizes and helps save Christmas.

Some of the stuff we've done were examples of incredible personal restraint and tolerance -- such as not shooting Sayaka in the face when literally the first thing she did to us was try to stab us in the back at Mami's house, and then blame us for not having gotten here sooner. (Did she also object to our busting in through the door into the room Mami was fighting the Witch? I can't recall if that happened or not.)

Also, when we had every reason to suspect Sayaka of betrayal (the "bluebird") and being the one responsible for Mami being kidnapped by Kirika. And when Sayaka called it our fault that we didn't do this properly, further blaming us. We had a Golden Weapon in our hand at that time, too. And we ended up sparing her and asking for a truce.

I half-suspect that Sayaka's intention in suggesting to Mami that they warn Kirika, was because Sayaka was hoping that Kirika and Murderface would end up killing each other. So that "You didn't do it properly, Murderface!" comment of her's felt REALLY obnoxious.

...

Really, how has Sayaka not provoked us to murder her, or even shoot her, but ended up with a picture of Butler!Kyoko we had?

And what is it with stupid people constantly mocking or screwing with somebody who had long held a reputation for psychopathy and hyperviolence?

Is it some strange game of Chicken played with Darwin Awards or something?
>>
>>20476860
I think it is more people being overconfident and not expecting that sheer rape we could bring should they push us far enough

And Sayaka has been alternately lucky and actually showed she can avoid being a bitch at times to end up with the butler Kyoko picture
>>
>>20476803

Yeah. She saved our lives against Kirika, and Tiny Pete saved our and Kyoko's lives versus the demon.

Also, Misaka makes some of our weaponry.

Keeping that in mind, a few head pats are simple enough.

And besides, we get to see Tiny Pete wrestle a bear! Who says we're not also indulging *ourselves* here?
>>
>>20476715

>>20476860
Well, we are currently avoiding the shield due to Elder God corruption, so if we want to ballistically implant lead in someone's brain we have to do it the fair way, which sort of neutralizes our biggest advantage over everyone else.
>>
>>20476929
While I agree that we generally should avoid using the shield, because of Pinky, we do need to keep her from getting impatient with us.

I say we use the shield to dispense a random weapon, just to see what sort of fun we can play with the bears.
>>
>>20476715

Tender side. Right. Your tender side usually comes up only to shooting someone in the kneecaps because you don't feel like shooting them in the face. Mostly for convenience's sake than anything else, really.

But as it was, you had no reason to refuse - Misaka had saved your life twice, after all, if you count her providing you with Tiny Pete at your last mission. It'd be quite petty of you to refuse.

"Understandable." Your former partner smiles, nodding. "Now, ah, let us get you kitted out, yes?" She looks you up and down, her crimson-pinned eyes narrowing at your heels. "...Oh, very stylish, Murderface, but I think you will have difficulty treading snow with those, hmm? Come, let Midori attend to Misaka for a while, and let us get you armed and ready for this murder-make. It would be remiss of me to simply let you face the horde without proper gear, after all."

Horde. Why is she calling a bunch of bears a 'horde'? Why would a bunch of fat, meandering piles of fur qualify for such a descriptor?

You ask her this before nodding at Midori, who give you a smile and quickly acquiesces, moving over to Misaka's side but not before bumping fists with Tiny Pete, the terminator returning the gesture. The snow crunches underneath your feet as Kharn leads you around the tracked vehicle, where a table full of high-caliber rifles and ammunition is set up. This, along with equipment that you would expect from anything OTHER than a simple bear hunt, makes you wonder just what sort of bears you'd be facing.

Because, grenades. And C4. And other things you only see in an operator kit.

What are you hunting, a goddamn crime organization made up of bears? A bear mafia?

Actually, that is a good thing. One more person to stop us before we kill Misaka or Kharn.

"Ahaha! Nothing of the sort." Kharn chuckles. "But, ah, the bears here have been...quite difficult to put down, yes? They are multiplying, faster than we can hunt them. And there has been reports of some of them being quite big, big enough to rip a tank in half. And they attack in groups, or as we have started calling them, hordes." She gestures to the table of hardware. "As such, we leave nothing to chance. In any case, you are free to choose to take one - compliments of our base, of course." She winks.

You look down at the table of rifles.

Which one do you choose?

[]A Model M91/30 Mosin Nagant, similar to Kharn's but not as worn-looking.

After a moment's consideration, you pick up the M91/30 Mosin Nagant, mirroring Kharn's choice of rifle, and she is visibly pleased at this. "Ah, an excellent choice, comrade Murderface! I was expecting you to pick this one--" she reaches down to gently place the curved tips of her claws on the bloody stock. "--because, ah, this is the most prudent choice for this hunt. A proper elephant gun, a large caliber that can topple even the biggest bear in this parts with one shot. But where is the challenge there?"

She gives the massive rifle a pat. "This is also Souji's own hunting rifle. As you can see, it is a bit...unused, but I have made sure to maintain it always." Kharn stifles a giggle. "The bloodstains may look rather legendary and heroic, but that is when he broke his nose due to the stock breaking his nose. He was holding it wrong, and did not probably brace himself for the recoil." She shakes her head and sighs. "He gave up hunting after that, which is a pity. He is just as good as his sister in marksmanship, if not better."

You stifle a smile yourself as you sling your new rifle over your shoulder.

If that's the case, then, what does Souji do for amusement here, besides his research?

At that question, your former partner crimsons. "W-well, I...I believe he reads books, a lot. Long, dry books that make you fall aslep at the first page." It's then that she smiles, again. "A-and going on internet forums and proving people wrong. Sometimes he takes a very long time, enough that I have to drag him to bed."

Right. That sounds like something he'd do, the basement-dwelling nerd.

Besides the rifle, Kharn instructs you to take a box of soft-point rounds, amounting to around 50 shots - as well as a headset, tuned to the general frequency. You load five rounds into the scopeless rifle, place the remainder in your inventory, and pull the headset on.

It's at this point that you decide to rack your shield. The rifle's handy, but you'd like something to rely on just in case crowd control became an issue. Sure, you have the Golden Desert Eagle already in your inventory, but...you'd rather not rely on it until your treatment, whatever that was. Your nightmare might have very well been a warning, and one you decide to follow.

What comes out is...a rather oversized pistol that's a bit blockier than most. Unlike the golden, finely-wrought elegance of your golden desert eagle, you get this...sharply-angled, black stubbed monstrosity of a pistol, with a curved magazine jutting out angrily in front of the grip. The polished metal surface is covered with what looks like scripture, written in tiny acid-etched letters - at least, the surfaces not bearing ornate decorations of skulls, eagles, and skulls with eagle wings.

You turn the beastly firearm around in your ands, before pressing what looks the most like a magazine release, and the heavy curved magazine slides away into your other hand. The loaded rounds are not, in any way, recognizable - looking less like bullets and more...miniature rockets.

You shrug at this, before replacing the magazine with a rather satisfying crunch, and then stashing the gun in your inventory. At least it didn't turn out to be another golden weapon. You'd like to enjoy killing bears without worrying about going crazy, this time.

"Have all you need, then, Murderface?" Kharn asks, and you nod before taking another headset for Midori. "If that is the case, then I will have these placed back in the armory. After which I will introduce you to the troops - it is time the realized who they answer to, now."

...Wait. Introduce you to these soldiers? But you're still not Warmaster, not officially! You're still in training!

"Nonsense. In training, yes, but also a Warmaster. The rank itself is official even when you are still learning to be one." Kharn grins claps you on the shoulder, and you could feel the brutal tips of her claws press lightly against your skin through your clothes. "Do not be so shy, Murderface. Relish your rank. Being Warmaster is to be in rarified air - breathe now and breathe deep, for you do not know when you will not be able to, any longer."

...Kharn is the only person you know that can sound reassuring and ominous at the same time.

"Ahahaha! Father has always said it is my best talent!"

After a few more moments of wondering if you should really pack as much C4 as you could into your inventory, it's then that you make your way back to the other three participants in this little hunt - and Midori smiles her thanks as you toss her the headset. She puts it on, while seemingly taking in your new look.

"Nice gear, sempai." The green-haired girl remarks, grinning. "You should probably look into making that your signature weapon, sempai. You kinda look cool with a rifle."

Cool, huh? Maybe you should. Mami's rifles have never failed to add to her style, giving her that extra, uneeded but definitely essential last bit of class whenever she fights.

You stare silently at your subordinate, before making a note about teaching her to shoot today. Maybe a few shots with your supervision. With your work, she would need to be able to shoot just in case you yourself are unable to.

It's then that Midori notices you staring that she herself colors slightly. "W-what is it, sempai? Is there something on my face?"

You blink, and then shake your head. You ask her if she needs anything else, and she shakes her head, holding up her own smartphone.

"Got what I need right here, sempai. I don't really go for guns, so I'll just be taking pictures. Well, at least until the shooting starts, anyway. I don't think I can look at fluffy bears being reduced to hamburger."

There's...really not much else to take photographs of besides the snow and such, but you leave her to her devices. You glance towards Misaka and Tiny Pete - and your arms dealer gives you a thumbs up as she slaps the ceramite armor of the Terminator's right arm, which seems to be finally fixed and ready for action, by the way its massive fingers are easily flexing and crunching into a fist.

You turn to Kharn, and you confirm that your team is ready. She nods at this, before placing a clawed hand on your shoulder and loudly clearing her throat.

The rabble of the soldiers descend into silence, and for a moment, there is no sound except for the wind howling.

"
"Soldiers of Kamchatka," Kharn begisn to address the soldiers, speaking no louder than her usual volume of speaking, and yet it carries easily throughout the entire courtyard. "Allow me to present Chiaki Matsuda, or as I refer and fondly remember her as, Murderface. She is the Officio's current Warmaster - a rank I once held, but no longer."

She pauses for a moment before continuing. "This is not any issue with me, for Murderface here, dearest of all my friends, is much more suited to the role than I will ever be. Please, recognize her now as the highest ranking officer present! Her authority is my authority, and present yourself with the utmost respect in the duration of her stay. Most importantly, conduct yourselves as befitting of soldiers, especially during this hunt. She is joining us, here, along with her own aide and the younger sister of our Director. Try not to make a mockery out of yourselves in their view."

A smile curls Kharn's soft, unpainted lips as the men start to laugh.

"Very well, this is not our first hunt. Remember, never venture out alone, make sure your quarry is suitably dead before even thinking of approaching it..." And it's then that your former partner's smile grows wider. "And if I hear a single bear joke out of anyone, I will kill them with my bear hands."

Even more laughter, this time, and Midori joins in, before clapping a hand over her mouth and looking rather embarrassed.

"Then those chosen to participate in the hunt, let us not waste any more time. The rest shall keep watch, and wait for us to bring home dinner." She claps her unnatural hands, once, the slap of flesh edged with metal slapping together. "You have your orders. Move."

The command is not shouted out but it has the effect of a gunshot, and the entire courtyard bursts into action. Midori and Misaka being assisted into the cab of the treaded vehicle, while the soldiers make to board the flatbed. Tiny Pete, you hear, will be plodding in behind the vehicle.

Letting out a sigh, Kharn turns toward you, a soft smile on her face.

"It will be nice to kill things with you again, comrade Murderface. But, ah, you have been keeping something from me, are you not?" Her crimson-pinned eyes gleam from behind her glasses. "Come on, you can tell Kharn. Let us reveal our feelings before we bond in the act of murder."

Not mandatory, but highly recommended. Sayaka in PMMM was straight and ended up killing three people, one of them being Kyouko.
Meaning lesbian magical girls are often more emotionally stable than straight ones. I don't know if this is true of all magical girls.
>>
>>20479112

One might say that while lesbianism isn't mandatory, such relationships might be a bit more successful in some ways. There are no magical guys, so your partner would invariably be a normal person, and would have a harder time understanding the horrors and stresses of such a job.

Other magical girls, on the other hand, know what you're going through, and it's easier to comfort one another and not expect too much.

On the other hand, if one of them dies, their partner is probably going to go berserk and/or witch out pretty quickly.

The only reference I could find to her getting, or having, a boyfriend in those threads are ambiguous at best.

Yeah, her romantic interest was referred to as "partner", if I remember correctly. It leaves the gender wholly ambiguous.
>>
>>20479274
I believe the whole thing ended with Deculture softly rebuking him via having his character suckerpunched.
>>
>>20479303
So does that mean Mami is single, or a lesbian. Because either one means wholly different things for our ability to procure pancakes.
>>

We have a pancake solution. Continue as current.
>>
>>20479372

Oh, look. Another train. Though I'm quite happy to hop on this one. We need to arrange for an 'accident' to occur to Mami's partner, then convince her that cooking will cheer her up. Then we ride the pancakey comfort train all the way to cheerful oblivion.
>>
>>20478828

As the massive treaded truck rumbles to life and begins to slowly make its way out of the base, some of the soldiers - and Tiny Pete - making to follow it on foot - it's then that you reach up with both hands to lower your headset, pulling the microphone away from your lips. Looking up at your former partner, whose wide, curiously-hued eyes are considering you with equal amounts of kind patience and childlike curiosity.

You clear your throat, breathe deeply, and ask her why.

Wincing inwardly at how weak - how vulnerable - your voice sounds as it trembles with every word.

Why? Why does she treat you like a friend, like a comrade, welcoming you with open arms? With her knowing full well that you are the reason why she has been exiled here, away from her friends, her life in Mitakihara?

Why does she treat you like this, a broken thing that only on the rarest occasions resemble a proper person - what have you done to be treated with so much kindness despite your horrific betrayal? Why does she not hate you, despise you, despite having all the right reasons to?

What did you do?

What did you do to deserve someone like her?

Kharn is silent as she looks at you, a stunned expression on her face. A moment, and it's then that she reaches out with her own brutal hands - and you inwardly flinch at seeing both brutally-clawed, unnaturally-elongated fingers come nearer.

[1/2]
>>
We should, at some point, mount and ride Tiny Pete into battle against the bear hordes.

Also, pancakes are love. It might be more effective to get Midori to learn how to make them...
>>
>>20479552
You do know that once she sees how we look at Mami and her stacks of pancakes I think she'll learn.
>>
>>20479576
She'll never be able to make them as good though.
>>
>>20479589
Of course she won't. But she'll try.
>>
>>20479597
The danger is that she'll independently invent the whiskey pancakes.

I really don't want to see a two-month timeskip where we come out all jittery from having nobody but pinky and a tiny snowman we drew on the wall with syrup to talk to.
>>
>>20479432

You close your eyes as you feel them rest on your shoulders. You open them again to see Kharn smile down at you.

"To see you like this, Murderface, it convinces me that you have truly forgotten. But you did not wish to forget. Something has made you, even when you have held onto your memories like a dying soldier clings to his gun."

Kharn leans in close, and you feel cool, soft lips press upon your forehead in a kiss.

"Perhaps, back then, it would have mattered. It does not matter now. I have long accepted my fate, and wear it as armor. My title as my weapon. Whatever had happened back then is history. If you have forgotten it - then why should I remember?" She draws back to look at you, and shakes your shoulders slightly. "All I will hold onto, Murderface, is how I enjoyed being your partner. You and our dearly departed mutual friend."

You blink at this. You...had forgotten someone else? Someone...who had already died?

Kharn nods after a moment. "It is better to find out now, than later, eh? Ah, but do not worry, she died a peaceful death. Painless. I made sure of it." She taps both your shoulders. "But we should not speak of it, not right now. Later, perhaps, when our bellies are full of vodka and our hearts brimming of regret. Then, I will tell you what I can. For now, we hunt."

You nod numbly at this. You have...forgotten too much. Simply too much.

It's then that you shriek and jump forward as you feel Kharn's cold, steel hands give you a slap on the behind.

[2/3]
>>
>>20479597
>>20479589
Not only will she try, she'll ask us with every attempt.

Or, she'll steal some of Mami's delicious pancakes as a base sample, and invent by her lonesome.

But, since pancakes are love, they'd never come out as good unless she makes them for us.

So, we'll have pancakes forever, or never. Whichever.
>>
>>20479617

"We are being left behind, Murderface!" Kharn's order is laced with laughter, none of the wistful melancholy in her words earlier. "Look, even Misaka's machine is ahead of us! We hunt!"

She runs forward, at the tail end of the hunting party, and it's with a grumbled curse that you give chase.

Your past, as you've found out, are much like pieces of a broken mirror.

You try to pick them up, but you only end up cutting yourself.
>>
>>20479629

Is it just me, or are we giving ourselves a harder time than the people we've screwed over. Apparently we're the reason Kharn lost everything and she's forgiven us.But we still haven't forgiven ourselves for doing things we can't remember.

We need to move on with ourselves and stop living in our past if we want to stop being so self-loathing. Because at this point Chiaki is one hell of a downer to be around.

We would probably get long with people better if we weren't so depressing.

We deserve to be self-loathing. We can't just run from our past or forgive ourself.

We've hurt the people we care about and even though we don't remember how we did it we still need to atone.

If we want to improve who we are in the present we can't ignore who we once were. If we want to be more than just Murderface, if we want to really be Chiaki we can't ignore the past.

>Trust the Betrayer with your life, but no more than that.

>She has been instructed to keep your sarcophagus safe until the time comes for you to carry it again
'Sarcophagus' referring to Chiaki's body, and I doubt 'you' referes to Chiaki. Perhaps Homura?
And that's why she's acting so friendly with us. It is merely an act. She's acting on orders.
>>
>>20479879
It makes sense. Her priorities would be keeping us alive over anybody else.

>>

>>20479818
It hints that we aren't exactly Homura but not that Chiaki wasn't Homura to begin with,
It leans towards the implication that we are simply "borrowing" her body due to us not remembering things thanks to our shield being broken
>>
>>20479879
That's a point. Maybe Chaiki is just keeping Homura's body warm 'til she gets back.
>>
>>20479863
What about KYOKO being the other after that? Kyouko's name is sometimes spelled like that, and if BUENO worked...
>>
I'm not saying that we forget about our past or run from it, just that we need to move forward. We should try to make amends for what we've done, but we shouldn't beat ourselves down with them. We know that we were a less than likeable person in the past, but that shouldn't stop us from becoming somebody new.

From what I understand, Kharn sees this as well. She sees that we are gradually becoming a different, better person. And in order to actually get better Chiaki needs to see that about herself. She needs to realize that while she has done terrible things, she is becoming a different person.
>>
>>20479899

Hm... has ANGEL been tried yet?

Also, the relationship between Homura and Chiaki is starting to seriously confuse. At first I thought they were the same, then a clone, then the same again, now I'm back to thinking clone due Chiaki having soulgem/shield on the wrong hand when compared to Homura.
>>
>>20479934
It doesn't help that Pinky's treatment of Chiaki isn't exactly consistent. First she speaks like Chiaki is a completely different person from Homura, and then she gets all lovey dovey as if she were the real thing.

What if EVERYONE'S priorities are keeping our body warm until Homura returns?
Mami, Sayaka, Kyouko... they are all merely tolerating us because they've been ordered to, knowing they'll get rid of us when Homura comes back.
>>
>>20479949
Well, we killed Kirika, who said that she had pretty frequent conversations with Pinky. So i bet she just got bored without someone to talk to.
>>
>>20479934
Well Chiaki has bad eyesight, something that the original Homura fixed and stayed fixed in the new timeline of the show.
That leads me to believe that Chiaki is a clone.

>>20479953
Paranoia to the max.
>>
>>20479953
That's... that's fucking cold, man.

Fuck you for make me depressed now.
>>
>>20479934
I thought she swapped her soulgem/shield arm because of that one time when she lost it during the fight with Kirika and Kyuubey switched it around for her.
>>
>>20479949

Maybe she's just lovey-dovey with someone who isn't Homura. >:D

>>20479953

...Which could tie into that. Everyone wants Homura back, except for Pinky who likes us as we are.

Our Evil Saviour indeed.
>>
>>20479976
Pinky has explicitly stated that she desperately wishes for us to be the original Homura.
>>
>>20479975

Probably doesn't help that some artists can't keep her shield arm consistent. (And sometimes even have it on the opposite arm of her soul gem.)

(Yes I'm talking about myself.)
>>
>>20479934
>>20479949
A theory I propose says that Homura suffered an extremely traumatic moment that shut down, but didn't destroy, her Soul Gem. Something related to Faust/Madoka.
A 'blank', or a template if wou will, took over it and, by extension, her body, which eventually shaped itself into Murderface.
Then a similar, but not as traumatic event happened, something related to Charlotte. When our Soul Gem was restarted then, the second blank that took over had most of Murderface's quirks and personality, but not her memory.

And somewhere behind all those system resets, lies actual Homura.
>>
>>20479975

Homura has her gem and shield on her left arm. Since thread 1, Chiaki has been described as having hers on her right arm. When Chiaki's arm got lopped off in the fight against Kirika, Kyubey temporarily moved the gem to her left arm. Then when they regenerated the arm, they moved them back to the right arm.

So... Chiaki is like some Homura mirror image with a drinking problem, bad eyesight, no social skills and guilt issues.

Being Meguca is suffering.
>>
rolled 83 = 83

>>20479975

Well, word of god has it that Chiaki has the shield on the opposite arm from Homura. I think the words used were 'mirror image'...
>>
So what if Madoka is the Culexus.

And Kharn witnessed our mutual killing fest.
And Chiaki simply trauma-forgot the incident?
Didn't we see Madoka's picture in QB's room?

And It required so much of the cover-up, Kharn was titled The Betrayer and sent here?

This doesn't even have any sense, right?

The reason why Chiaki is so lost and emotionally stunted is because she literally doesn't have a heart. Retrieving this heart will play an important part in reviving the original Homura!

Alright, how about this: Recall that Kharn is keeping our sarcophagus, a coffin in which a mummy is kept.

The Egyptians believed that a mummified body contained three essential spirits. First was the ka, the "double" of a person, who remained in the tomb and required the offerings there. Next was the ba, the "soul", which was free to fly in and out of the tomb. And then was the akh, the "spirit", which had to travel through the Underworld to be judged before passing on to the Afterlife.

Chiaki('s body) is the "double". We need to return to the tomb (i.e., sarcophagus) in order to initiate the whole process of transcending to the Afterlife, which may or may not represent some sort of spiritual interaction with Pinky. The "soul" is our conscious (personality), which has experienced resets because it is not at all bound to the tomb or our other two spirits. The "spirit" is our missing heart, which we must now retrieve in order to truly reach Pinky's plane.
>>
>>20480144
What if this alternate universe Homura, Chiaki, is in a Quest Thread?
>>
>>20480271

Oh, probably a minor point, but the etymology of sarcophagus is 'sarkophagus', which means "Flesh Eating" in Greek. Coincidence... OR THE FLESH OF FALLEN ANGELS!?!
>>
>>20480304
>>20480271
