"Hello~ Are you alive~?"

[The Girl clears away the rubble only to reveal what is left of the man's body]

Figures, they're never alive.
Oh?

What's this?
A relic of the past?
An artifact from the Battle?
Or perhaps it's simply a shiny bauble..

Maybe it's edible.
>>
Actually we're the torn-off scrotum (part of it, anyway) of an ancient and powerful dragon.

We won't give you powers if you eat us, though; just a horrible STD.
>>
What's this all about
>>
>>20436835
Doesn't really look edible. But it does look rather snazzy. Put it on as a necklace.
>>
>>20436857
don't be silly, we can't be the girl, we are "you"

"you" is that red thing, perhaps we are an AI or a magical being trapped in that form.

Those are like super rare.
I think. I haven't checked the market for them lately.

>>20436862
W-what? I'm you? That's some trippy stuff right there man.

>>20436875
There is nobody. Haven't seen anyone in... 3 months? Not since the Elementals attacked.
>>
>>20436893
Okay. Just put us around your neck, it's the easiest way to carry us.

We're a bit out of touch with current events so a bit of a sitrep is in order. What are the Elementals? How destroyed is the world? Is not seeing people for 3 months due to you choosing to avoid population or the inability to find anyone? Are there mutants?
>>
>>20436893
You know that the one who wears us is destined to rule the world, right? So put us on around your neck so you don't lose us, and we can be off.

Following on this, you appear to be wearing a gas mask-why?
And how did you manage to get one in snazzy cyan?

Oh wow.. Queen of the World would be a pretty damn sweet title..

[The Girl puts on the Necklace]

Sweet.

>>20436902
I can imagine.. Judging by the how bad the body was you've probably been sleeping since First Encounter.
Basically..

[The Girl leaves the house]

We managed to kill god.
Humanity decided to due away with technology a while ago when we discovered Magic. God didn't like that we found this out so he tried to stop us from advancing it. Kinda like how he kicked us out of that freaking retarded garden? But with Magic we were able to fight back and we killed him. That is known as the First Encounter. The only time we actually saw god. When he died he unleashed a horrible curse on the world.
Then everyone died.
Just like that.
Just, BOOM, CURSED.
Everyone dead.

World's pretty messed up. Central City is, I think, the only place still functioning.

And yeah, there are mutants. Everywhere.
The air isn't good anymore and if you breathe it in too much it's just killer.
Me not seeing 'people' is because most 'people' I see try to kill me. I don't count them.

Man, that's the most I've spoken in a while.
>>
>>20436893
How can there be nobody? What about Bob? what about Joe? What about my friends?
>>
>>20436972
What's your name? How are you still alive, if everyone else died? Why the gasmask? Can you show us your face?
>>
>>20436972
Well I have to say, nicely done on the killing god thing.

Does Magic still work? Are you able to use Magic yourself? Are you a Nomad or do you have a central base? How did you live through it? How long has it been since the First Encounter?
>>
>>20436972
Alright, woman, if humans had enough technology to kill god, then they can clearly make technology that can get rid of his curse.
But, that's none of my concern, now let's find some treasure!
>>
>>20436972
Do you have anyone you care about? Any friends? Any family? Anyone you love?
>>
Everyone is a zombie. Including her. They have to hide the rot to preserve their sanity so that's why the gas mask.
>>
>>20437025
>Humanity decided to due away with technology a while ago when we discovered Magic.
You should read before posting.
>>
>>20436972
What do you mean by "Central City is still functioning"? How did the death spread? Is Central City in a area the curse overtook slowly enough for people to prepare? Is it a smattering of survivors founded after this Gotterdammerung?
>>
>>20436987
The air is seemingly toxic: breathe too much and you die, she said.
>>
...How much do you yourself *know* of magic, miss?
How was a god killed if it could exert enough force
on the universe to simply stifle its advancement?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I cant' remember my name.. I'm sure it wasn't anything cool anyway.
As for 'how' I'm still alive.. Well... I can use Magic. Nothing super special awesome. I just can make myself invisible and move things. Other powers too but they're just basic suvival stuff.. But don't tell anyone. If people find out you can use Magic they kill you off the bat. Drives people insane.
As for the gasmask.. Well, I did mention the air is poison right? If I breathe this in for like an hour I'd be in serious trouble. And no you can't see my face, I'm very ugly.

>>20436973
I'm very sorry for your loss. My family was killed by the Element of Acid so I know how it feels to lose someone.

>>20437007
Oh man so many questions. I don't have a home base right now. Kinda just backpacking. Living off of whatever I happen to find lying around. Almost running out of water that isn't infected. And it's been....... 1 year since the First Encounter? Elemental's finally stopped attacking too.

>>20437044
No.

>>20437065
Basically the dude who runs Central City is a strong enough Magic user that he was able to not only slow the Curse but to stop it altogether. He's probably the only Magic user in the world that people don't kill on sight. Or rather, can't kill on sight.
And while he could stop the Curse there that's about all he could do. Actually you can see Central City behind me. It's about a days walk away.
I try to avoid it though.
Magic user and all that.
>>
>>20437114

>>20437130
Blue is fine. Anyway I'm not really headed anywhere in particular. There's no where to be heading to. The only city in the world would kill me if they knew what I could do.
You have any ideas? We can go on some adventures!
There was a small town nearby that I've yet to scavenge anything from.
Maybe some people will be there.

>>20437182
But they're tiny.
>>
>>20437114
Good to know. Do you have a backpack with supplies with you? What supplies do you have?
>>
>>20437208
Do you have any idea what I am? Or if I have any abilities other than being an exceptional conversationalist? Also am I talking to you telepathically or is actual noise being made?

That town sounds like a plan, you need supplies if you don't want to die, and you being dead would make life very boring.
>>
>>20437208
Let's head to that village. But be careful not to be spotted as you approch, other people probably have the same idea.

How did not human life survive the curse? Are there still trees and plants and critters around?

>>20437230
Well... What I think you are is a Piece of Chaos. And yeah your only known power is to talk to my in my head with many different voices. Most people go crazy holding you. And while you don't have many other powers you have been known to influence things for better or worse. It seems your last host didn't fare too well hehe.

>>20437233
There are still plants and animals but most are mutated beyond recognition. Those that didn't mutate were eaten by those that did. It sucks.
Most people who did survive ran to Central City.
Not sure about the rest of the world. Maybe everyone else is dead but this small city.

[As Blue approaches the city she detects something.
She hides behind a sign as something shuffles past her.]

Ah... See? Mutant.
You can tell from the hands and the big bone-like claws that come out of it.
Those things man.. They carry whatever infects the air too so if you get hit by one too much...

Seems to be gone now.
Wish I had a weapon, can't rely on magic all the time. Too dangerous
>>
>>20437306
Can you summon things like silly hats?
If not open this book and search for something that will allow you to do this.
>>
>>20437337
You do see the sign that says Al's Guns. Granted there's a high chance it's already completely looted or has a mutant hiding in the ceiling to eat your face. Might still be worth investigating, first scoping it from the street, then throwing that handy skull there into see if you can rustle out anything hiding in there.

What do you mean by too dangerous to rely on magic all the time? Is this because of an inherent danger of using it, corrupting effects of it or that you just shouldn't rely on one thing?

I can actually summon any clothing. However it uses up the material around me.
I miss cotton underwear.

>>20437350
A gun would be pretty damn sweet...
Ok, I'll use Magic this time.

[Blue draws from a reserve of power deep within herself and casts a Move spell. The skull rises from the ground and is flung into the store.
Nothing seems to happen.]

Nothing popped out. And my spell didn't backfire.
Magic isn't a natural thing and using it 'can' have a bad effect on our bodies. My upper right chest is pretty not-healthy looking because of a botched Revival spell. For spells like Invisibility I could end up becoming like blind or something if it fails. Or Move could send me flinging instead. The chances are slim for simple spells but it's still there.

Hmm... Still nothing. Should I go in?
>>
>>20437306
We just talk?

Somehow I doubt that. No, wait I know that's wrong.

I know we can see, and listen, we need to try other senses.
>>
>>20437396
Sure. Be ready to make yourself invisible and bug out of there. Also don't expect much, I wouldn't be surprised if someone stripped it already.
>>
>>20437396
Find something to make silly hat with.
You are magician and magicians need silly hats.
>>
>>20437420
This.
>>
>>20437396
So using magic is not ideal? Did you revive yourself or someone else? Does the damage from miscasting heal over time?

You should probably go in, if it's too dark to see you can always light a match.

>>20437455
This is true
>>
>>20437396
Anything like big Trapdoor Spiders exists in this area? If not, move on out.
So, I'm curious about weapons in this day and age- a gun is essentially a one ended tube with a grip, and a mechanism to activate a charge set behind a projectile, yes? nothing more fancy than that?
>>
>>20437455
But a silly hat is simply too emblematic of wizards- those people put to death on detection, see?
She needs something wizardly, but could also pretend is simply practical wear-how about a parka?Or, a duster, if weather's too warm for parkas.

>>20437455
But I have a silly mask. That good enough?

>>20437475
I tried to revive my family.
And no the damage doesn't heal easily over time. I could use Magic to heal it but... Yeah if that fails that'd be even worse then huh?

>>20437481
Giant spiders are a thing. Came right before the Elementals. Very scary. About the size of a large dog. No trapdoor ones I think.

>>20437420
All right..
And.......
Hey there's no one here to kill me!
There's also no guns!

>>20437509
What's a parka? Oh, there 'is' a rug here. I can finally have some clothing if I wanted. Or make it into something useful like a rope.
>>
>>20437455
the problem with silly hats is that they let you peg magicians from a distance.

I wonder if we can read that book. I might tell us the nuances of magical rules, such as if sympathetic magic or antipathetic magic is preferred. Undoubtedly raw energies causes backlash, but perhaps there is a way to focus things so that they are more stable for our needs.

Ponchos are cool. And you can sleep under it as well.

You do still sleep right?

What's that scrap of paper on the floor?
>>
>>20437540
Woah, wait a second. How long have you been running around without a weapon? Why do you suddenly need one now?
>>
>>20437522
Yeah, I'm not surprised. Try looking under things, if there's anything behind counters, under them, if there are any suspiciously loose floorboards. Look under the rug, that's where I'd put something. Also what's that thing on the ground in the far right corner?

I think you need a bitching duster, it'll help protect you from the elements, maybe if you make it out of tough stuff work as light armor, and look cool.

>>20437540
Yeah, that's about how they work.
>>
>>20437522
Are you sure we can't smell? Using a gas mask would greatly inhibit your own ability to smell...

Wait, how do our senses work? Are they our own, or echoes of Blue's? Our sight only activated when she gazed upon us. And our hearing when she talked.

We need to test this, do we feel her? Is it only because she feels our weight upon her warm chest? The easiest way to test this is to have her taste us, by placing us in her mouth we will find out if we taste us or if we taste her upon that senses trigger.

This is quite interesting, but unfortunately I suppose it will have to wait till Blue can take off her mask.
>>
>>20437550
She mostly hides. We are done hiding, we have been hiding for far too long. We need the weapon so we no longer have to hide, so that she doesn't have to hide.
>>
>>20437522
Could you please explain 'Elementals'?
And referring to killing God as the 'First Encounter' implies a Second Encounter. Is that a thing?
>>
>>20437522

[There's nothing on the other side of the paper.
She takes the carpet off the floor.]

Oh! OH! A door! A locked door! That means... That means it might still have it's contents!
And I don't have a key!
DAMMIT!

>>20437578
We shall test this after we are done here. In case you haven't noticed most buildings, the insides at least, have a harder time getting infected air in them. I can survive in one with a door for a while.

I only got this info from my dad's book. He wrote it himself. Anything that he knew, I know. So if there has ever been any more encounters.. Well, I don't know about them.

Now... How the hell do I open this door? I could use Magic to unlock it but.....
Maybe it's worth the risk?
I could also use Magic to find the key. Again, risk.

Or I could just look for the key.
Forgetting about this is not an option.

You could always knock on the door, someone might be home. Or if you really don't want to attract attention, you could hide outside and watch for a while.

Do you have a list of magic spells you can cast? Or do you just make things up as you go?

You could check the rest of the town, see if there's a key hidden somewhere.

I can see pretty well through this. Well enough to know that the note bears no more useful information. Man probably died before he could finish it..
Now, both the spells are fairly simple. The Search on is even easier. If I had to give it a percent..... 95% success rate for the Seach one and 90% for the Unlock one. 1/10 chance of failure is too high for me..

>>20437681

*Ah ha, haaah haahahahaha!
>>
>>20437722
I'm saddened by you not knowing how to pick locks.

I have no clue about the body thing, don't worry I won't try anything like that, it'd be terribly impolite.

I'm an advocate of brute force. See if you can find a bit of metal to use at a chisel or lever and a rock to use to hammer it in. Then force it open. I believe in you.
>>
>>20437722
Good to see you're putting your magic to good use.

How heavy are you? Could you break the lock by jumping on it? I doubt anything you can lift would be heavier.
>>
>>20437722
It's clear you don't want to risk magc; is there any more information about the shop you didn't immiediately notice? If you can find a home address for the owner on a note or something, you've probably found the key's resting place.
>>
>>20437722
I wouldn't worry too much about the filter thing, Unless you have been using this mask for less than a day. Then you should panic, because that's imperative to your survival.

And we wouldn't need to take over your body if we had our own body, Blue.

But aside from that, get a rock, nothing beats rock. In the meantime I will be punching the lock with our mind powers, if we can think at you, maybe we can think at other things, but with more force?

The rock smashes the lock completely.
She opens the now unlocked lid and gasps.]

>>20437995
Smash it on the way out. That'll show it.
>>
>>20438003
Okay, now move fast, move extremely fast. You can do this Blue, we believe in you. Dodge around it and get the fuck out of this building. Follow your shotgun arrow if it doesn't lead you towards more mutants.
>>
>>20438003
Know anything about these mutants? Do they perhaps detect things by hearing movements? There has to be a reason why it's come this way but isn't attacking.

[Once she knows the Mutant is far away Blue runs out of the store.
Using the arrow as her guide she eventually makes her way into another dilapidated house.
Inside she sees that the house has been stripped of it's furniture but still hanging on the wall is an old mounted gun]

Is that the shotgun? Seems... Like it's more for display.
Well at least I'm away from the mutant. And the air in here looks decent.

>>20438032
I'm guessin hearing. As for why it went in there.. Mutants tend to revisit places they once went to. It may have even been the previous owner here.
>>
>>20438059
This place still has AC? Neat!

You might get to sleep in luxury tonight. See if there's a bedroom with a bed.
>>
>>20438003
How finely controlled is your telekinesis? Bump the monster in the leg with the skull-stay hidden behind the counter- and toss it out the window.Ideally, it'll notice the motion of something going out of the shop and chase down and destroy the bone and not feel like killing anything else for an hour or two.Rewarded as a traitor deserves.
>>
>>20438059
Take a look around the area, make sure you aren't missing anything.

Make sure the shotgun isn't attached to the wall as a trap or something like that before you touch it, take a very close look at it and use a long stick or something like that to poke it and remove it before you touch it, just in case.

See if you can find somewhere to rest for a bit in here, a bed, a couch or a easily locked and barricaded room would be preferred. Also this'll give you a chance to take off your gasmask, eat some food, show us your face.
>>
>>20438087
Oh, nevermind I'm late to the party.Scrap that plan.
.
>>
>>20438059

So, tell us more about these mutants. Just WHAT can they do, anyway? Are they all blind?
>>
>>20438059
Time for the Taste-test!

And possible reading!

And maybe loot.

No AC it's just more difficult for the poisoned air to get into homes. It's still there but I could easily stay an entire day in a house without a mask on. Any more then that...

>>20438103
Everything is safely tucked away in my Inventory.

[The girl prods the Shotgun with a stick. After determining it's safe she stores the Possibly Not Good Shotgun in her Inventory.
Blue walks around the house for a bit until she finds an empty bedroom.
She goes inside and closes the door behind her.
Before trying to seal the door with magic she uses the key. To her surprise it locks.]

Well.. This is the first time I've ever been able to just normally lock a door.

[She sits down on the floor and relaxes]

>>20438115
Most of them that I've seen are. There are a few that can see but they're much much bigger and stronger.
Most of the time they just wander around spreading more of that poison.. Their claws can easily rip through flesh.

>take off your gasmask, eat some food, show us your face.

.....
I don't want to.
>>
>>20438211
We can't do a taste test without access to your taste buds.
>>
>>20438211
Blue, I'm an obviously somewhat insane intelligence inside a red gem you're wearing. If you don't eat food and drink water you'll weaken and eventually die, I don't want that to happen.

Besides, do you really think I'm going to judge you based on your face?
>>
>>20438211
You'll need to eat eventually, yes?

Oh wait, you've miscast something else haven't you?

I don't suppose mutants happen if you fail too many spells, and you're worried about us being mean to you because you're half mutant? Don't worry about that. We're stuck with you one way or another, so you can count on us.
>>
>>20438211
Go to sleep when you wake up create silly hat from bed and maybe something else.
Its not like we are going to city.
>>
>>20438230
You are insane, I am quite sane.

Also that mask doesn't work. A proper mask has a filtration system and doesn't allow for gasses (such as smells) to penetrate the seal.
>>
>>20438292
Yep mask is broken.
Change it to silly mask-hat
>>
>>20438292
Magi-tech, my friend.
She wasn't aware gas masks needed filters and yet she's survived 3 months underneath a chemical cloud.
>>
>>20438211
The buildings and living arrangements of your time seem quite spartan- You've been in three buildings we've seen and they've mostly been empty rooms.
The amulet is tied to your perceptions, I think? Are we seeing the world as barren because you're focusing on important or large details?

Or is it, like, most things provided by magic before the plague and elementals?
>>
>>20438292
>>20438348
>>20438331
I think this is one of those things we shouldn't question too loudly, for fear of breaking it by recognising it.

.....

[Blue takes off her glove and lowers a strap on her shirt. The skin on her hand and upper chest are tough and blackened. The fingers on her hand end in sharp bony points]

You guys are smart. I guess it's hard to fool a magical artifact?
I've failed my share of spells. The downsides of messing them up too badly are unsightly.

But
I won't let you see my face. This is as much as you're getting right now.
>>
>>20438378
I am not inteseted in face now
But you should get some magican clothes
>>
>>20438348
My fiendish friendly fellow voice, you are imaginative, but not very keen on subtleties.
Not only are there two masks, but the mask is obviously designed for an attachment that isn't a food/water tube.

>>20437672
>>20437722
>>20438003

There are more clues, but those are the most obvious ones.
>>
>>20438378
Does magic get more reliable when you practice? Maybe if you get lucky, you could heal yourself.

Nevertheless, you still need to eat, right?

I probably see more then you do. Like cobwebs, bits of wood and glass. Unimportant things that I would have to focus on.

Anyway...
I'm actually really hungry.

[Blue covers you up with a cloth. You can still see through a small crack]

Can you see? Good.

I'm going to eat and then just sleep.
I'll see you guys in the morning.

And thanks for all the help.

[And with that she settles down and eats her meal.]

>>
>>20438378
It's Ok Blue, we still love you, or what passes as our love anyway.
I still want to do that taste test though I need to know how linked we are, or if we are linked.
>>
>>20438378
You're very pretty Blue. One day you should lets us have a look at your pretty face.
>>
>>20438409
What sharp teeth you have, my dear.

See you tomorrow!
>>
>>20438409

*cue prophetic dreams*
>>
>>20438409
But you look perfect for silly hat
And you really should get some new clothes
>>
>>20438409
I spy a cute girl~
>>
>>20438409
I'm not sure why you're so worried about letting us see your face. I happen to like your teeth.

Also we need to get this girl a duster. Full coverage to keep any parts you don't want shown hidden, protection from the elements and it might lessen any hits you take by a bit if we reinforce it some.
>>
Interesting quest so far OP.

When will you be running again?
>>
>>20438440

Finding underwear seems to be a priority.
>>
>>20438472
Seconded. Got something like a Twitter to keep us informed?

A twitter? I uh.. Never considered such a thing.
Is that a thing other questers do?
>>
>>20438537
Only if you have to... Twitter terrible.

Just tell us when you'll be back and that's fine.

And archiving might help, since you havn't given us the name of this quest.
>>
>>20438537
Some do. It helps inform people who follow the quest of your schedule. You don't really need one but it can help if your schedule isn't consistent.

When is the next installment of this going to be?
>>
>>20438537
It's helpful if you don't have a consistent schedule or want to organize something outside of the quest, but it's not a necessity in any way.

>>
>>20438552
Also it's been archived under the name Red Sky!
>>
>>20438621
That's also fine, but you might get a radically different set of voices each time. Good luck with your adventures!

Until then~

>>
Try to make it a little sooner? It's nearly 7AM now
>>
>>20438781

>>
>>20438683
Thank you for everything!

>>20438781
I'm not gonna complain, it's not even 4PM here in UTC+1.
>>
>>20438778
We're a girl?

Aw yeah. Now lets find a body.
