Recap: You are ANON, the RED JOKER - Currently visiting your friend, AKIRA, at the KUCHIKI METROPOLITAN HOSPITAL. Unfortunately, after a brief but disturbing power outage, you now find yourself locked in combat with ABYSS CARCHARIAS - A lethal assassin who seems to have been lying in wait for someone else...

Beneath you: Faintly glowing tile-squares, a platform hovering in the middle of the infinite blackness of space. Around you, angular steps wind their way through the eternal night, like the teeth of a fractal dragon - Now cracked and crumbling in place, from the fury of the recent exchanges.

The Tempest Scrander hums to itself, as it recharges - The turbines cycling back up to charge, as you find your feet. You can see Abyss standing atop the blasted steps, brine and ichor oozing from the joints and punctures in his toothed armor - The razor-sharp edge of his serrated sword raised in his good hand, cutting the air in great, disdainful sweeps...Like a conductor's baton, signalling an unseen orchestra.

The black gem at his sword's pommel shines like a dark star, shedding a harsh anti-light; You can feel the void beginning to churn, as curious, malicious intellects - Sensing blood in the water - began to close in, their predatory shapes vast and half-glimpsed, drawn by Abyss's beacon.

Though you've never been comfortable in the red world, this sea of lightless and infinite black...It makes you long for home.

Hello op, I am ready for the sharks.
>>
>>20435582

What sharks? Why are we fighting sharks?
>>
>>20435606

His name is LITERALLY 'Abyss Shark.' Or SPACE SHARK, dohohoho.

>>20435573

Whatever he's summoning, it can't be good. Shoot the fuck out of him, get ready to jump again.
>>
>>20435573
We need to get him off those stairs, fire your vulcans where he's standing and use the interceptor to keep the nasty things in the water away.
>>
>>20435573

Is this guy the uber-swordsman the thief was looking for? Send an interceptor after him, and follow up with a few missiles.
>>
>>20435652
>>20435656

Your remaining Interceptor detaches from your back eyrie, beginning to orbit you in ever-widening circles. Both of your Vulcans spit long, double-helix chains of fire, the barrels blurring in throaty bursts of muzzleflash-

A silver crescent arc blurs before Abyss, as he blocks your incoming shots with his blade; His speed is blindingly fast, though not *quite* as much as before - With one arm limp and useless, you see him judder as the superheated bolts scorch his armor, steam rising from the charring carapace...

When four missiles loft from your Triskelion launchers, barreling through the air in twisting paths, Abyss turns to run; He sprints up the uneven steps with incredible speed, his legs snapping like shears - But the rockets explode in a perfect sphere of destruction, the blast sending him staggering, almost pitching him from the steps ass -

...You Interceptor sparks off *something*, and you hear a CRUNCH. Tortured metal squeals, as your drone is mangled and compressed; The cutting field sparking off-

A great and lightless shape, like some ocean-dwelling behemoth. It's almost invisible, but in that momentary flare of light, you make out the sleek and savage forms coiling towards you, fins slicing through the aetherial void...

Nope, the uber swordsman is dead. It's his sword the thief wants- an interesting thing to note is that when we asked the dude we're fighting now if the anti-light sword he's wielding now is the Fatal Abyss, he responded with "No. Not yet." Implying that it shares similar properties with this fabled superweapon.
>>
>>20435783
Has the Scrander recharged? If not, use the cobalt booster to accelerate and get out of the shark's path, while firing the gatlings.
>>
>>20435783

> A great and lightless shape, like some ocean-dwelling behemoth. It's almost invisible, but in that momentary flare of light, you make out the sleek and savage forms coiling towards you, fins slicing through the aetherial void...

Fuck me, SHARKS.

Tyrant burst at full power, fry everything in front of you.
>>
>>20435783
Right, rev up that scrander because we're getting the fuck out of there. See if you can't aim for a place on the stairs above that isn't ruined to fuckall. Oh, and watch out for that sword on your way up- being halfway through our jump with no additional mid flight assistance is a perfect time for this asshole to cap us.
>>
The Cobalt Booster throbs in your torso - Photonic streams of blue light sizzling through your circuits, supercharging the myomer bundles of your artificial muscles as you hurl yourself to the side...The Tempest Scrander's turbines roaring, the static charge propelling you in a sudden and savage evasion.

You slam into something - Not hard, just a glancing collision - a *something* with a horrid nightmare maw, that snaps at you as you speed past. Teeth rake against your side, drawing sparks - But it can't hold you, and you wrenched free, deep punctures on the surface of your crimson plate.

You land hard, your boots slamming into the tiles underfoot; Even as the Tyrant Burst system glows with motes of gathering light...

The ray-storm blasts that lashes forth - A slicing, carving funnel of hissing ice-white beams, like rods of molten glass. It boils the darkness away; You actually *hear* shrieks of distress, haunting and eerie, as things flinch away from the light - Then the horrible smell of charring flesh and burning blood...

In full light, the predators are horrid, ravenous things; You realize they've been sweeping back and forth, surrounding the battlefield, drawing closer...They're swarming up from *below* you, from the unending void beneath the platform - As scorched shapes fall away like dead leaves, you actually see them turn on each other, the agitated swarm writhing like worms as they wolf the fresh meat down-

(Continued)
>>
>>20435987

You slam into the side of the steps - Hauling yourself up and over, aware of the riling, nightmarish feeding frenzy all around - an instant before a slicing wave of anti-light shears through the stone mere steps before you, the shockwave almost wrenching you free.

As you find your footing, you see Abyss racing towards you - Leaping from platform to platform, each *sweep* of his sword making charged ions crackle in the blackness, slicing forth from him in powerful linear sweeps of distortion. The same surreal glow is surrounding him, now, in a visible haze - He's closing relentlessly, dead eyes locked on you.

Fire the gatlings. Launch three missiles. As he approaches, prepare to use the booster's flash ability to blind him, just in time for a double punch from the plasma caster as we dodge around him.
>>
>>20436019
Disengage the Tempest Scrander and get ready to use it. Now, we're going to be using that last bit of cobalt booster for something a little different:

Force open the magnetic locks from the railgun and boost them so you are fully braced. Let Abyss reach you, at the last second grab the Scrander and slam the business end in his face.

Send him to swim with the sharks.
>>
>>20436055
Seconding this
>>
>>20436104
If his jewel does indeed control the sharks, all this will do is give him our Scrander, and it might possibly lead to him attacking us with a rocket-boosted giant shark.
>>
>>20436104

Fuck, that's an awesome idea. LET'S DO THIS.
>>
>>20436128
But this is what the magnetic locks are for, we're still going to be GRIPPING the Scrander. The point is to spike him down without blowing ourselves away.
>>
The rotary barrels of your Vulcans shred the air with a blaze of plasma, each scorching bolt searing towards Abyss; You hit him once, twice, bursts charring the dead white finish of his armor - He's moving more stiffly, now, the punishment clearly taking a toll on him...But when you launch another missile barrage, his blade sweeps out in a cutting arc - And you actually see the rockets halved, then quartered, by slicing force, before they tumble away and explode.

One final leap will clear the distance to your platform - Carcharis sprints towards the edge, for the *leap*...

-When the Tyrant Burst cannon erupts in light - Eye-searing, blinding - the response is immediate and painful. All four eyes on his mask snap shut, the blinding flash bleaching his form even more - He leaps anyway, but it's poorly judged, graceless, and he slams down onto the steps beneath you, tumbling and rolling towards the edge.

That lightning-fast blade stabs out at you, anyway - He's aiming for sound, as the magnetic locks of your boots dig into the platform underfoot. There's a *shriek* as it stabs through the Scrander's body - You hear a crackling, fitful buzz, as he punctures *something* within it...

His eyes snap open, at the exact moment the pack *fires*.

The Scrander doesn't use fire, but electricity - A powerful electromagnetic charge that *repels* against the surrounding, to launch itself with incredible force. Detached, it hits him like a freight train, right in the torso.

The jump pack literally LEAPS out of your hands - You hear his breastplate splinter, like a stake through a vampire's heart as all that force communicates itself into a terrible impact...

Oh this isn't FAIR. Joker Quest at the same time House Karban comes back after a month long hiatus? And I have to get to sleep? My life is suffering.

By the way, found a possible Black Joker. Same series that the Red Joker I posted last week is from.

Also mean to ask whether the images you were using in the last few threads were from Dengeki Stryker.
>>
>>20436178
All I can think about is how annoyed I will be if we lose the Scrander.
>>
>>20436178

He's hurtles off the step, kicking and flailing - A terrible roar wrenched from his throat. He doesn't quite fall into the abyss, the impact enough to carry him to the lower platform...But he hits it without almost enough force to break him in two, so hard that his limbs twitch in spasm all he sprawls on his back.

The Scrander's still firing fitfully, crackling with sparks as the charge runs down - It caught him utterly by surprise, the tines punching through his torso, and out the other side.

And in the blackness, you can see the hungry shapes draw closer to their twitching prey, malicious curiosity in their pitch-black eyes.

Head down to the lower platform, quickly. Fire into the void to dissuade the sharks from attacking Abyss.
>>

And wait, you aren't using Dengeki Stryker!? Whoa, I could have sworn that's what the images were from.

Now we save him:

Run down there and collect our stuff, and carry him up the stairs. It's time to interrogate him if he can still talk, we need some answers.
>>
>>20436228
The sharks are helping him, he probably summoned them. Hop down; if they converge use an AS Clone to escape. Let's take the Fatal Abyss from him before he finishes dying.
>>
>>20436260
>you can see the hungry shapes draw closer to their twitching prey, malicious curiosity in their pitch-black eyes.

If he's broken enough to have lost the ability to control them, they will probably eat him.
>>

I have a feeling if the sharks kill him we won't get any loot or xp for it.
>>
Without your jump pack, you take the steps two at a time, as quickly as you dare - A quick blurt from your Vulcans scatters the swarming creatures, scorching those too slow to withdraw; But Abyss isn't going anywhere, impaled on the Scrander's arcing spines - The metal tines gouging into the glowing ground below.

He's not dead - Not yet - but he looks mortally stricken, foul-smelling ichor dribbling from the many wounds he's taken. There's a sound, from his throat...A choking, gagging sound of shock, like a low, disbelieving rattle from punctured lungs.

He stinks. He smells like brine and rank effluvium, up close - One gauntlet still clamped around his sword, as if he can't bear to release it.

"beautifuuuuullll-"

The voice rasps from somewhere dark and dire, his gaze orientating slowly on you.

"It was. Was. Going to be-"

"...beautifuuuuulll."

"Honestly, I don't think it would have been."

Take the sword and see if the Amulet of Shark Control or whatever is still around. That'd be a neat trick to have in a fight.
>>
>>20436285
Keep one arm's gatlings fixed on his head, and the other on the nearby sharks, as we question him (assuming he's coherent enough to actually answer).

"Who were you looking for?"
>>
>>20436304
The controller appears to be the jewel in his sword's pommel.
>>
It's something you've always wondered. What happens when you're wounded, in the red world? If you lose a limb, or your head? Does *that* kill you? Or do you only die when your HP is utterly extinguished? It's a morbid thought, but never more appropriate than for a place like this...

-A place that reminds you so very much of the infinite, labyrinth darkness beneath the city. You keep your gatlings trained on him - The whirring barrels fuming with smoke, as the vile ichor he has for blood drains out of him.

They're close, now. Whatever's out there...It's intelligent enough to be kept at bay by your guns, but you feel that you shouldn't linger too long.

> "Honestly, I don't think it would have been."

You reach down for his sword, but it's brittle, crumbling - Like a limb, growing withered and sallow as the host dies. But the gem in the pommel...

It comes free in your hand - A perfect black pearl, the size of a large marble, the murky color of arterial blood. The latent power in it makes you feel sick to the stomach, just holding it in one gauntlet - It makes you want to retch.

The blade snaps under your boot, as you kick it out of reach.

(Continued)
>>
"Hhhhhhcccchhhhh...Kkkkkkk...KaaaaacccHHHH-"

Abyss's mask begins to tremble violently; You see brine oozing out from the raw muscle beneath his helmet. His fingers claw convulsively at the Scrander - He's trying to dislodge it, but the pain is too much.

It's too late, anyway.

> "Who were you looking for?"

He hears you. For one shuddering moment, he's still, and he tries to say-

"Ar. Argent. *Silver*-"

And the rest of it, his soul simply forbids. Abyss's impaled form erupts into swirling green motes of light, drawn to you like fireflies to a lamp - The emerald glow lighting you up from within.

You lay one hand on the Scrander, as the world begins to shimmer and fade out. The black pearl feels like a lodestone in your fist - It's still not too late to discard it, to let it be lost forever.

The *feel* of it - It makes your eyes water, the actinic taste of battery acid in your mouth. It's a singularly unpleasant thing, sour with malice...

It wants to be whole. It knows you're not the one, and it hates you all the more for that. You haven't felt something like this since, since...

-Since Death Calibre's gun.

>>
>>20436414
Engage the Fusion Annihilator. Build up all six charges. Then toss the pearl into the void, and destroy it.
>>
>>20436414
I thought so. But we can hold this one? Here's what we do, exactly like we should have done with the gun: tear off a piece of the Assault Shroud and wrap the gem in it. Then call up the Thief and tell him we've got a lead on his idiot sword.

...Oh hey. Black Joker's building himself alternate forms of the old finalists. One used a gun like Joker, this one uses a sword like Phantom. Might be worthwhile to let the finalists know that Black Joker's making a move.
>>
>>20436414

So the phantom edge is cursed too, I guess? Let's hold on to the pommelstone anyway. The thief clearly wants it. Maybe Hecate can hold it for us?
>>
>>20436414

>-since Death Calibre's gun

FUCK

Unfortunately, the Joker's Memory (if genuine) is probably our best bet for figuring out how to handle the Black Joker problem. Wrap the Abyss core in Assault Shroud fibers to carry, and for later... be prepared to backstab (backgun?) the Thief as soon as the Joker's Memory is with us. It may be in hellaciously bad taste, but we need the Memory, and we also need to make sure Thief doesn't get a Carcharias killing spree on.
>>
>>20436414
Oh shit. OH. SHIT.

FUCK ME. How are we going to evacuate our friends? We need to get back to the room NOW.
>>
>>20436444

> Maybe Hecate can hold it for us?

NO. Do NOT give it to her. We hang on to the thing, but we never whisper a breath of it, until we have some idea what's going on. Don't tell the thief either, just hide it.
>>
>>20436414
>"Ar. Argent. *Silver*-"

Nope.
NOPE.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOPE.

How the fuck is he HERE? How the fuck was sharkman going to assassinate him in the first place? Oh god we left Hecate alone.
>>
>>20436494
No, he was going to say more. Don't assume he's after Argent Silver when he might be after Chrome. Of course if Argent's in the hospital it's a completely different story and we need to GTFO as surreptitiously as possible.
>>
You...hesitate. It's a wretched thing, but it could be of value. You grip the pearl tighter in your gauntleted fist, the anti-light shining briefly around you as...

-You find yourself looking at the steel doors of the elevator.

"...what this is about?" Kazuya is saying - He's panting, slightly, looking winded as he straightens. You're...You're not on the floor you left off on. You're on the ground-level, at the lobby leading to the hospital's internal carpark...A place rather less decorative, all off-white walls and the faint *hiss* of the ventilators, than the one you came from.

Before you, the lift's indicator light is still RED - The elevator car stuck between floors, a victim of the momentary an inexplicable blackout. As you look, though - There's a low *grinding* noise as the system rights itself...Beginning to move again, with a cheery *ding*.

"Hey, Anon-kun; C'mon, man. Why did we just run down...*e-eight* flights of...damn...*stairs*?"

You can feel, in your pocket - A black sphere, a round, hard marble. It's followed you back here, too.

> "Call it a premonition. Something bad's about to happen."

"I don't see..." he begins - But the urgency in your voice must've alerted him, because he sets his jaw...With a nod that means there'll probably be questions later.

Faintly, there's another *ding*. You're already moving towards the stairwell - Wondering *where* the threat might come from, feeling sensation of menace that's gripped your heart in a cold fist...

-Behind you, the lift arrives with a low *crump* of springs. The doors hiss open, with hydraulic grace; Kazuya's right behind you, when he turns, and says - clear surprise in his voice:

"Ebara-san? Boss - Is that you?"

Boss?

You look back. There's only one occupant, inside the elevator - A tall man in a well-tailored business suit, a little frown of concentration on his angular features as he consults his handphone. He looks somewhere in his late thirties, slightly gaunt and a trifle severe - A look only accentuated by his high cheekbones.

It's his eyes, though, that you notice first. They're a pale blue - A shade paler, and they'd be colorless...But like this, they're piercing, mesmerizing, as he looks up.

"Ah, Kazuya - " He says - his voice cultured, friendly...If faintly puzzled. His attention shifts to you, as he blinks, just once. "...I wasn't expecting to see you here. And..."

Kazuya flashes you a slightly sheepish grin, as he descends the steps. "...Right, I forget - You haven't met him yet." He clears his throat, significantly: "Anon - This is Mr. Fumito Ebara; He's the chairman of the Sterling Institute...And also my boss."

"-Technically, I'm in charge of the departments; That makes me his boss's boss." Mr. Ebara corrects...His words softened by an indulgent smile. He has dark hair, prematurely greying - To the point it seems almost blue, with crow's-feet at the corner of his eyes when he smiles. He reminds you, vaguely, of one of the nicer teachers you've had.

He adjusts the - slightly ragged - red scarf he's knotted around his throat, tucking his handphone back into a pocket.

> [X] "Oh, this is your boss Kazuya? I really thought you made up all the stories about actually having a job.
> One of us should call a nurse though. Would you mind doing that, Kaz?"

Kazuya looks like he's about to say something, in return - He settles for a 'Don't fuck this up for me' look at you, as he nods. "Sure, I'll be right back," he offers, with a polite nod to Mr. Ebara - Though he does seem a little rattled by the unexpected meeting.

"Anon, is it?" You didn't think he'd caught that, from Kazuya's brief introduction. He glances in your friend's direction, as the footfalls recede...Offering his hand to you, for a shake, looking slightly amused. "-Kazu's one of my staff. I'm glad to meet a friend of his, at last."

"-I'm not surprised. It's mostly secretarial work; Data-processing, delivering surveys...That kind of thing." Busywork, in other words - That doesn't actually surprise you, to be honest. "Your friend's a hard worker...A conscientious young man like him is hard to find."

"He's taken to it rather well, actually - I'd say he's our charisma." A little laugh, as if at a private joke.

> [X] "...So, what brings you here, Ebara-san?"
> Visiting someone?

"Not so formal, please," he says, "- Mr. 'Fumito' will do."

"-Yes, of course." Ebara sounds grave, the moment of levity extinguished - "I heard about that...tragedy...at your school. Most distressing."

A pause, and he goes on: "Some of the victims were employees of mine - I was most concerned. Fortunately, the doctors have assured me they'll be making a full recovery...And I have every confidence in them."

"But of course." His smile...Becomes more genuine, somehow, as he straightens his suit, with the air of one who's had a great weight off his mind.

> [X] "I think I grasp your meaning. But what I want to know is how the hell everyone keeps figuring this out.

"-It's not actually that difficult. I know you, because we have a...mutual friend." Then, more softly: "We had our differences, but I was very, very sorry to hear that he was gone."

> Unless the Thief told you, in which case I *really* have to have a talk with that stalker."

"...The Thief?" Now Mr. Fumito frowns; "-That's hardly someone you should be on speaking terms with." He takes a slow, thoughtfully breath - "...A while ago, a valuable - And dangerous - project of mine was - shall we say - acquired by him."

"...Imagine my surprise when it resurfaced." His voice is light, but you can tell it's an effort. "I was rather distressed, of course...I'd never meant for it to be used. And in *that* way..."

He might have been referring to that small monster that showed up on the train. The first time we met Chrome Cypher.

We try to mostly act... defensively. Only go after somebody who is actively malicious, or already has a reason to go after us.

In other words: No, we're not a hitman.

... Also, it's complicated.
And I wonder if the "thing" he could be referring to, might be the memories of the Red Joker?
>>

Counting it:

1.) The train.
2.) The big Cthulu thing we killed.
3.) Alecto.

Unless there's something I missed, that makes three.

Oh, right... Also also: the Thief contacted us. The real us. So there's that complication too.

He's got a thing for dead man's triggers. Who knows what he'd have set up IRL, too.

>>20437131
Okay, so he knew Old Joker and supposedly found out about us through that.

[X] "...He's been stealing from you, hasn't he?"
[X] "You can make Relics?"
[X] "...Then, why would you need something like that?"

I'm dreadfully sorry Mr. Fumito but my life is complicated enough without going out of my way to make additional enemies. Should his actions become overly detrimental to myself I will reconsider your hypothetical offer. I hope that this does not put us on bad terms.
>>

We've already kinda gone NOW YOU'VE GONE TOO FAR, THIEF! on the Thief.

2) He's good at having something you really, really want

> [X] "You can make Relics?"

"We all have our gifts," Mr. Ebara demures - Though he's not exactly denying it.

> [X] "...Then, why would you need something like that?"

"-It was a prototype, nothing more; I never meant for the Coffer to be used," he explains, sounding earnest. "Indeed, I'd almost forgotten about it until, well..."

-Until it turned up in Alecto's hands.

"...Be that as it may - Never again." There's the ghost of a smile, on his lips. "It seems the straightforward way is the best one, when it comes to dealing with Correctors."

"-To them, it's just self-defense. After all; When one's made of glass, *everything* looks like a stone." He looks a little sad, just for a moment: "I'm afraid that I'm a bit of a recluse, by the usual standard."

> [X] "-I've been meaning to ask: *Why* do your Players hunt them, anyway?"

"Correctors...Well, to put it simply - Correctors cause disasters. There's no rhythm or reason to their appearances...Not that I know of - But they've always heralded unfortunate events. Hunting them is really a kind of preventive measure - Like pest control, if you would."

He coughs, lightly, as if wondering whether to go on. "Also - It's an alternative to the usual battles. The...third way, I call it. I've always felt that it's a better use of our energies, than the endless intercine fighting."

Close by, there's a faint beeping - Mr. Fumito's eyes widen, slightly, as if recalling an unpleasant duty. "Yes, well...My apologies, young man; Something's come up."

His hand dips into a pocket, and come back with an ivory-white sliver of cardboard; "It was a pleasure speaking with you, all the same - Here's my card. If there's any way I can help - Or if you wish to speak at length - don't hesitate to ask."

"Of course. Take care of yourself, Anon - I expect great things from you." Mr. Fumito walks past you, with a nod of acknowledgement - The door swings shut behind him, but you can still hear him measured footsteps...Then the answering chirp of his car's remote key, as the headlights flash.

It's a Volvo - Finished, of course, in a silver sheen.

You turn the card over in your hand; It's a fairly standard business card, with his office number and title on it, just beneath the (rather abstract) mark of the Sterling Institute.

By the time you head upstairs, your friends are just leaving - You see Natsumi gently close the door behind herself as she steps out into the corridor, Kazuya just a moment behind. The light in the room is off.

"-Ah, you're back~!" Natsumi says - Looking a little surprised by your arrival. "...How did it go?" Kazuya cuts in; He seems faintly anxious, which is fairly understandable.

> [X] "How's he doing?"

"He's sleeping. The nurse said Akira still needs to rest, and he was looking a little tired, so..."

Kazuya leaves the rest unsaid, though a quick glance through the window's enough; You make out a lumpy shape that's probably Akira, the blankets drawn up and over his head like a shroud.

> [X] "Where's Tsukimi?"

"Oh, her?" Natsumi sounds a little lofty - "She said she had to leave, and excused her...Quite abruptly, actually." She pauses, then goes on - A little reluctantly; "She also said that you could meet her at the 'usual place', later..."

...Yes, that sounds like Hecate, all right. Natsumi still doesn't seem entirely happy about that...Though you have a feeling it's not going to change, anytime soon.

"-So, where to?" Kazuya asks, interrupting your train of thought - A wide, familiar grin on his face. "We're about done here, and school's out today...Any plans for the rest of the day?"

"I'll keep *that* in mind," Kazuya laughs - Even as Natsumi colors a little, looking slightly pleased beneath her blush. You part ways at the front gate of the hospital; The sight of the two walking side-by-side, companionably, a reassuring one.

As for you...

It's not a long trip to the Papillion - It's something of a relief, though, to be drawing away from the forbidding edifice of the hospital...A place you've never quite been comfortable with. The pastel-pink colors are a pleasant change from all that whitewash, and the faint smell of antiseptic.

It's still fairly early in the day, though the place seems a bit busier than usual. You don't seem to see Mio around - Or is that Eri, here? - though a cheerful maid greets you with an "Ohayo, Master~!" her voice trailing off into a giggle as she ducks her head in a bow.

"Can I help you, Joker-kun~?" she chirps, still looking positively delighted - As if at a private joke you didn't catch.

"Hai, hai ~ Whatever you say, Joker-kun." Then she's off; Though not without a backward glance, as if wondering what you'd be doing in the room by yourself.

Well, as long as she's not listening at the door.

The room beyond is just as you remember it, though reversed like a mirror-image; The wrap-around couch, a tray of snacks - The inviting *clink* of ice cubes in soft drinks - the flatscreen television...

When you close the door behind you (tucking the key into your pocket, to make sure it's locked) you give the place a once-over, confirming that it's empty...Though not for long. You've just seated yourself with a ice-cold drink, when you hear the soft *scuff* of footsteps behind you...And the feel of slender arms, encircling you from behind.

"-You're all right!" you can hear the relief in Hecate's voice - The soft rustle of her hair, as she hugs you; Her chin nestling in the crook of your shoulder. "I wasn't sure you'd make it out..."

"-I'm all right," Hecate murmurs - "I'm sorry I couldn't *stay*..."

She draws back, slowly...Evidently a little self-conscious at her display. You can't help but notice she's back in her usual costume, as she comes around to your side of the table, seating herself at the couch.

She pauses to consider that - Then shakes her head, slowly. "...No, I couldn't be sure. The other one was too *bright*...I had to leave before he found me - Get as *far away* as possible."

Hecate bites her lip - Clearly still rattled from the close encounter, her green eyes ever-so-slightly narrowed. "...I wish I could help more, but I don't know."

The bright presence you felt was probably Argent, however there was another there.

His name was Abyss Carcharodon. Nasty guy, had shadow sharks everywhere and was trying to recreate Fatal Abyss. After killing him I retrieved the pommel of his sword, which I believe was the first step of him turning his sword into Fatal Abyss, I'm pretty sure it's cursed, it feels wrong. It traveled with me from the Red world to this one.

As for Argent, we seem to have come to an agreement to remain peaceful with each other. One of the few reasonable Players I've met, which probably just makes him all the more dangerous.

Hecate frowns, thoughtfully, thinking things over - It's a lot to consider, apparently, as she's silent for the longest time. "I'm...A little out of my depth here, Joker-kun," she confesses; Leaning forward towards you, slightly, her elbows resting on her knees. She laughs, a shaky little sound. "...I didn't even know there was another one..."

Hecate cups her chin in her palm, at your mention of Argent Prominence - "-I think...I think, but I can't be completely sure...that he'll keep his word. He has no reason *not* to, and he has appearances to keep up..." Hecate smiles, briefly. "...And it sounds like he's interested in seeing what you may do, too."

It's a fleeting smile, as she sobers - "...I think he's lying about the Thief, though. Everything the Thief steals, he *keeps*...I've never heard of him giving his Relics away, or selling them - I don't know what he does with them, but he doesn't share."

> "So. It turns out that Tsukihime wasn't lying to me -- sharks will show up to kill you in the oddest of places, when you least expect them."

She giggles, at that - laughs, actually, the toe of her stocking-sheathed leg nudging your foot. "Be *serious*~! This is important!" Hecate says, sounding mock put-out...Though she doesn't hide the flash of amusement in her eyes.

> I'm pretty sure it's cursed, it feels wrong.

"...Wrong? Wrong, like what?" There's a curious note to her voice - "I've never heard of a *cursed* Relic, before...But yes, some of them can 'cross-over'." As if to accentuate her words, Hecate brushes a slim finger against the silk rose on her wrist, part of her lacy costume.

It's cold, in your hand - The infinite cold of the depths, so cold you're afraid it may burn you. It's actually a relief once you're rid of it, as you place it in Hecate's outstretched hand; She turns it in slim fingers, as she holds it up for a moment...

"...The Fatal Abyss..." Hecate murmurs, to no-one in particular; It doesn't seem to affect, no more than a normal gem. Still, she handles it gingerly, as if eyeing a coiled but lethal viper. "-With something like this, I could almost believe it.."

A gesture, and it vanishes. The oppressive gloom recedes, so quickly as if you've only imagined it; You breathe a little easier, now that it's gone.

"M-me?" She's clearly startled by your frank words - A slow-blooming flush beginning at her pointed ears, spreading beneath her pale skin, sounding delighted and surprised at once.

It's a little different from before: The last time you asked Hecate out, she was rather more playful, in her teasing way - Now, she actually *colors*, as a tentative, slow smile flits across her lips...

-to be replaced by a thoughtful frown, as her gaze rests on you.

"Anon-kun...Are you sure about this?" she asks, tentatively - "It's...I'd love to, but - You're right, you know. Not about the spiders, but..." She pauses, feeling for the best way to put it - Fidgeting slightly, as she reaches for a glass, sets it down again, as if not sure what to do with her hands:

"If we go together - if we're *seen* together - it might make you a target. Not just the Red Joker, but *you*." You've never seen her looking quite this extraordinarily nervous, stealing glances back at you between words.

She's looking away from you, now - There's something unnameable in her voice, something complex and vulnerable...Her eyes averted, not quite able to meet your gaze.

"...Dummy..." Hecate whispers; Her voice low, on the verge edge of hearing - "...Didn't I tell you? It's too soon to say something like *that*..." It almost sounds like she's admonishing herself, utterly and completely embarassed - Her midnight tresses momentarily shrouding her features, as if she's crying.

"Aaah, I really am an idiot, too..."

She's not, actually. She wipes at her eyes, with slim fingers - Fighting to hold back spontaneous, joyous laughter, as she turns back to you at last.

The smile that blossoms on Hecate's elegant features...It's slow and impossibly complex, a melange of emotions - Relief, delight, disbelief - flitting across her face...But it's so sweet, so meltingly-soft, it's like the sun coming up.

"Then...I'll be glad to go you with you, Joker-kun - No, Anon-kun." She giggles, at the sound of your name - Shaking her head, clearly surprised by herself.

"-Once again...Please, take good care of me."

(Thanks for everything, gentlemen - You've been a wonderful audience. Unfortunately, it's really late for me: I'd love to continue, but I have to stop at this point.

I'll run the next instalment on Sunday, or Monday at the same time. Good night, and god bless.)

So adorable!

>>20438996

Until next time then, OP.
>>
>>20438966

So...moe...

HNNNNNGHHHH'D.
>>
>>20438318

From the looks of it, we're not going to have to wait for too long with that.
>>
Why does this have to start so EARLYYY?
I want to play when the threads start, but I have to sleeeep.
>>
>>20439623

Yeah, I totally know what you mean. I've generally settled for lurking on the threads.

Can I also say that I'm not really that keen on hecate's route? It seems we've chosen the girl that's going to bring the MOST trouble down on ourselves.

Maybe I just like poorfag-tan, though.
>>
>>20440020

All the girls are trouble. All of them.

Except maybe asuna, but the poor girl's been kind of sidelined. Our childhood friend has something up with her, mio has her strange emotion-warping ability, and hecate is in deep with the weird game thing.

It's just the kind of trouble we want.

Actually, there is one route that could cause more trouble than all of them combined: Kotone, AKA Black Joker (apparent). Was kind of hoping we'd stumble into that route, but Hecate is adorable too.
>>
You dumbfucks forgot the mark again. Can we just assume we did that the last two times?

Also don't be so sure Kazuya is Cypher, I'll list the reasons for Natsumi again:
>In naginata club, Cypher uses halberd
>Asked if there was anything strange about Hecate
>Also in subway car, and needed a ride from Kazuya during the giant monster thing
>>
>>20440440
That's a really good point. Actually, that's a really good point. We had Argent *right there*, we should have gotten him to confirm which of them it was.

Lot of heavy hitters in the hospital. The Thief, Chrome Cypher, Hecate, the Queen and Argent. I think the Queen was being visited by Hecate and Argent in turn, and the reason that Hecate didn't want to stick around is that she knew Argent was on his way. They related or is this more proof that Argent isn't as shiny as his appearance would lead us to believe?

Might be worth tracking down The Thief, since someone (coughBLACKJOKERcough) was trying to make an evil cursed version of Fatal Abyss.
>>
You colossal idiots, you should have destroyed that pearl immediately. 'oh it'll be useful, we can control sharks'. Fuck no, something like that shouldn't exist. While I'm at it, launching the Scrander at him was a dumb move, albeit one that paid off, and you forgot the mark.

I am immensely buttfrustrated that this quest occurs while I am goddamn asleep. OP pls do this shit earlier.
>>
>>20444523
I don't want it because it'll be useful, I want it because we might be able to trade it to The Thief rather than have to find the real Fatal Abyss. Agree that it's seriously bad juju. And what mark are you guys talking about, the Black Joker's?
>>
>>20444679
The one we carve into the ground after every fight, the Red Joker's symbol.

So you're suggesting giving someone who's already a bit of an antihero an evil sword that burns with hate for all creatures? Even if it was the entire sword and not just one piece, the battle with a dark Thief would more than offset any extra trouble getting the actual Phantom Edge would cause us. And it's just a single piece.
>>
>>20444679
>he doesn't know about the Red Joker's mark
>LaughingCorrectors.jpg
>>
>>20444796
Oh, dammit. It's been so long since we actually used it that it slipped my mind.

>>20444773
If I had to guess, the Fatal Abyss pearl isn't the real Fatal Abyss, but a Relic designed to "grow" into something with similar powers. I suspect the Death Gun was something similar, with a side order of mind control.
>>
>>20445415
Well, whatever it is, can we at least agree it should not be allowed to exist?
>>
>>20445777
Tentative yes, with the qualifier being whether we can use it to get Joker's Memory. If it isn't acceptable in trade we introduce it to the DOOM CANNON.
>>
>>20446415
I still can't see anything good coming of giving it to the Theif. Either he's smart and destroys it himself/refuses it, or he takes it and gets taken over/does evil shit. Pretty much the only reason I can think of is a morality test of sorts. No sane or good person would want that thing, and if he just wants power, he'll go for it. If he's actually a good or perhaps even neutral guy, he'll reject the fuck out of it. So actually, I guess I'm fine with that.
>>
>20440440

Actually that may not be good enough reasons to suspect her. After all we used vulcans and we don't have a background with guns.
>>
>>20440440

Also we heard Chrome Cypher speak without the voice filter. His voice was male.
>>
>>20449696

No, the filter just fucks up his voice even more. He's not necessarily male.
>>
>>20444773

What I'm wondering is WHY he would want the sword. We know it's cursed, but hecate doesn't seem to know that. But if anyone's good at dealing with relics, it's the guy who's carrying a million of the fucking things...

So why does he want it? He doesn't seem stupid, just a bit of a dick. A soul-sucking sword that summons shadow sharks seems like a bad idea for anyone involved.
>>
>>20450439
It wants to be whole, it knows we're not the one. Just because it doesn't like us doesn't mean it'll hate the Thief. The Thief wants to put it back together, it and the Thief would probably get along just fine.

As for the shark summoning that might not have been entirely the sword, the guy's name was Abyss Carcharias, or Abyss Shark, the hordes of shadow sharks was probably him. Though the sword may have enhanced it, it wasn't the root cause of them.
>>
Holy shit, people are still talking about this? I've seen this quest pop up a few times, but I've always wondered what the appeal was.
>>
>>20444523

Giving it to hecate probably wasn't the best idea, ever.
So far the only player we haven't seen is the black cardinal. Correct me if this is wrong:

a) Diamonds - Argent Prominence (1st Gen) - Argent Prominence (2nd Gen), or Chrome Cypher.

b) Spades - Phantom Edge - The Thief (?)

c) Hearts - Chalice Queen - Hecate (?)

d) Clubs - Black Cardinal - ?

e) Joker - Black Joker - Kotone.

f) Joker - Red Joker (1st gen) - Anon. (2nd red joker.)

Is that right?
>>
>>20450517

It seems that at least three out of the six aren't very keen on fighting. We generally only kill in self-defense, argent wants to sit this one out, and hecate is on our side.
>>
Wow, shit, what's with the massive number of downvotes to this one? Is someone spamming downvotes or something? Because this thread is at -4, with TWENTY votes, which is like three times the usual voting turnout.
>>
>>20455038
Probably that one faggot who won't stop bitching about quests.
>>
So, what, we done for the day?
>>
>>20458352
Probably. Not much else to talk about unless you want to discuss Hecate's hypothetical fetishes.
>>
Hecate was worst choice.
>>
>>20458624
And let the waifu wars begin!
