The deeper the five of you go into the Lunarian Ruins, the hotter the air becomes. Sweat drips from your brow, your white, cotton shirt sticks to your skin. It's worse for Albert, due to all of that fur on his body. "Ahhhh..."" the bear moans. He collapses against the wall, trying to catch his breath. His body uses less energy in order not to overheat, but he's still exhausted. "Go on without me, you guys. Aghhh."

"Albert, are you alright?" Cadencia walks over to the bear, kneeling down to assist him.
"Do I look like it, Cadencia? Ahhhh." Albert's exaggerating his condition, sure, but it was still getting too hot to proceed forward.
"Uh... Anon, can you keep going forward? I can try and cool down Albert with some magic.."

"Uh.. let me think for a minute."

>Leave Cadencia here to cool down Albert. Leave Brunstault to protect them.

We're no good to anyone if we're heat-stroked ourselves.

Besides, splitting up doesn't sound like a good idea in an ancient unknown facility.

We should find the environmental controls and turn on the AC.
>>
>>20374778 here
Dungeon crawling is best done when everyone is well rested.
>>
No splitting up. Especially no 'groups' of one person.
Especially especially when that one person is getting overheated.
So we stop here for now.

Can we try creating water? Though that would be a broken ability.

"Hey, Gestalt." you take a seat on the other side of the hallway, directly opposite of Albert and Cadencia. "Do you know where we're headed? Any ideas at all?" your breathing is becoming heavier. Damn, the heat was getting to you too.
"Main core. Power supply of facility." that explains the rising in temperature as you keep moving forward. Though the hard part in all of this was thinking of a solution. Well, since this was a facility, it had to have some sort of cool down mechanism, right?

"Hey, Gestalt, is there something like an AC around here? Err.. I mean, a cooling mechanism?" words go in too and out of Gestalt's head. She stares absent-mindedly down the hall, away from the heat and back down the way you came. "Gestalt, hey!" you raise your voice.

"I can go check." Gestalt points back the way you came. It would have been REALLY nice to know what was coming up, but then against Gestalt seems pretty single-minded. That and she's been imprisoned for more than a millenia.

"Alone?"

"I'm capable. I'm strong. I can do it. Trust me." Gestalt doesn't smile, her eyes are half-closed as she's sleep deprived.

"Uh..."

"I don't care how strong you THINK you are, I don't care how strong you ACTUALLY are. No one is going anywhere without at least one other person to help them in case they get into trouble." despite what Gestalt IS, or what she knows, she wasn't leaving the group. Divided we fall, united we stand. That's how it was going to go, even in a situation like this. "Albert, can you stand?"

"Y-yeah, I can manage. As long as we get away from this DAMN heat." the bear stands up with Cadencia's help. Brunstault, with her arms crossed, points deeper into the boiling inferno that was the depths of the facility.
"I doubt we'll find anything of use if we keep going forward. Seems like a raging beast, doesn't it?" the fox was referring to the core itself. You don't get the jist of what she's saying until a second later.
"A monster? Is that how they're powering this place?"
"Look who caught on, Hero." Brunstault laughs to herself. "But it doesn't matter, it'll still be here when we return, so let's be off."

"Right." you take Gestalt's hand, who walks forward to lead the way.

"Come."

"Gestalt, where are you leading us? I thought we were going to a cooling facility." Gestalt just keeps walking down the hallway. She takes a couple of turns, mumbling to herself as she recalls the details of this facility. She places a hand on a scanner, causing a few doors to open. up.
"Left over relic of t-the past." she takes your hand, walking on.
"Left over relic?" Albert is even surprised. "I thought the Lunarians took everything that mattered with the-" he caught his words. That included Gestalt.
"No." Gestalt answers simply as the final doors open up.

The ground shakes. The noise of metal on metal is heard as the final door, as if it was a hangar, opens up. Wait, a hangar? Was there a ship here?

"Here we are." Gestalt points into the darkness. The lights inside the 'hangar' turn on.

To reveal a large, black humanoid figure in the center of the hangar. It stands at around fifteen stories tall. Sleek, black armor and a visor.

It was a mech.

"Phew... a mech? Even after 1500 years, looks like it's still in servicable condition. I'll give the Luanrians credit, they built stuff to last, just like the Romans." you hate to admit it, but you feel a shred of pride in your ancestors. Wait, no you didn't! Get your head on straight. "Why are you showing me this?"

"I did. It's mine. I used it to d-destroy Herious' body. The machine is c-called Varian Star." what Gestalt just said made your mouth come wide open.

"O-okay. So you used this mech to destroy Herious' body, and you couldn't kill his will. Got it, anyway, what's it equipped with?"

"Magitech Barriers. Magitech Swords. Cannons c-capable of destroying a small c-country." Gestault points to the sky. "Floating island go bye-bye." she makes a shooting sound-effect. Cute.. but not really. "Machine guns. Pew. Pew. Pew." This was the best Christmas ever.

Brunstault grins. "Ahh, I'd like to give this thing a whirl!" the fox runs forward, looking up and down at the black goliath.

"What's needed of the two people piloting it? Is it a navigataor/pilot, a pilot/copilot, or just a duel pilot set up?" this was knowledge that you reall HAD TO HAVE before getting in a machine like that.

"It's the l-last one. I handle w-weapon and you p-pilot. P-retty soon we'll be i-in sync. I-It'll be easier after that." Gestalt walks forward, looking up at the machine as if looking at a long lost friend. "Let's go, Varian." Gestalt crouches down and leaps high into the air. Her body is a blur.

"Albert, Brunstault, you can chat with us from there, can't you?" Albert nods, fiddling with the tech.
"Good luck, or whatever."
Cadencia sighs, shaking her head. "I'll be rooting for you from here... I guess?" she acts as though you're going off to the final battle.
You follow Gestalt into the air with a powerful jump of your own. The cockpit opens up and you fall into the back seat. Gestalt leaps down, leans forward and grasps the controls. You take the helm yourself as the visor glistens a deep red.

"Alright, everything is stable! Brun, go ahead and do it!"

Brunstault places a head-set on. Her fingers go to WORK on the keyboard, typing fast then the human eye can even trace. "Ready!... SET.. GO!" the last beep.

The shackles keeping the legs in place break. The arms begin to move, large, blue wings blast out from the machine's upper back. In a burst of nergy, the mech, Varian, races forward and through the hangar. Pass Gate #1, Gate #2, Gate#5, and the last one, Gate #10. "MY GOD THIS IS AMAZING!" you see the sun in the sky. A deep, endless blue sky. Varian's wings flap once. You turn around to see the entire island of Koerken.

"Gestalt, open up the communication channel." Gestalt does as you say. An image of zig-zagging line breaks across the screen. Shortly after, an image of Albert appears on screen. Full video, too.
"How is it up there?" Albert smiles the best he can. This feeling deep inside, almost a tingling sensation. Such excitement!
"It feels amazing! I can see the whole island!"

"Of course you can, you're in the sky. How stupid are you?" Brunstault interjects, appearing right beside Albert on the hud before you. You scoff to the side.

"Whatever, Brunstault." you take the controls, THINKING you know how to perform aerial maneuvers. Much to your satisfaction, you can! Varian flips through the air, perform barrel rolls. This machine was unlike anything you've ever seen. You speed up and bolt through the air. In about thirty seconds, you're on the far end of the island. You turn on a dime, speeding back over the scarred land and back to the Lunarian Temple. Gestalt goes through the weaponry of the dual swords, large magical shields, and the rifles. There's also that cannon on the right arm, but Gestalt warns you NOT to mess with that.

"Alright, that's pretty much it, isn't it?" Gestalt nods.

"Hey Gestalt, I have another question." the white haired girl turns her head to the side, her expression unchanging. "What does this thing run on?"
"Magic. A wizard did it." Gestalt turns around, completely disinterested in the conversation.
"You're going to leave me hanging, aren't you?"
"Betsu ni."
"Wha?"
"It runs o-on what's inside o-of me. Darkwyrm, in a c-contained form. I-It's infinite in p-power. P-plus it's the only t-thing that c-could have k-killed Herious.. b-b-b.." she can't put the words out of her mouth. "I-It was like g-giving him a taste of h-his own medicine." Gestalt REALLY has trouble forming words like that. Is it because the Lunarian language is designed in four increments? You had to ask Albert about that. You go onto ask Gestalt about the sensor systems on the Varian, also about a location system. Gestalt answers that, yes, back at the base they give Varian information about the surrounding area and even the WORLD if you want. It takes advantage of the nature of the Starheaven. It also has thermal imaging, night-vision and even the ability to detect high-concentrations of magical energy and EVEN Darkwyrm, so it could trace Remnants and their locations. However, that's only near the locations that Varian is present in.

With that out of the way...

In due time, both you and Gestalt return to the ruins and seat the mecha snuggly in the hangar. You ask Gestalt on the way back if it has an AI, and the answer is a flat NO. You also ask about a sort of 'sleep' mode, and the answer is also no. Well, Gestalt can pilot the mech on her own but it's combat capability will be reduced significantly. You leap out of the machine, landing in the center of the control portion of the hangar. Gestalt leaps out after you, landing just a few feet ahead.

"How was it?" Cadencia is the first to greet you with a soft smile. A nod of the head and you wave to her.

"It was great, nothing like I've ever felt before."

"Maybe you could take me for a ride sometime?"

"I want to ride it too." from all people, you didn't expect Brunstault to say that. She moves forward, standing beside Cadencia with her hand on her hip.

"Uh..." you were trapped.

...Gestalt latches onto your arm, extends up and kisses you on the cheek. "Denial." she then slaps you across the face. Brunstault sighs, shakes her head and clenches her fist. "Hey, Mr.Harrison." you move into the room to see the brown-haired man shuffling through his papers. He looks up at you from the top of his glasses, smiling earnestly.

"What do you need Candice?"

"I was going to ask you what you thought about the missing students and faculty." you walk forward, hands behind your back.

"I can't really say for sure, but it's tragic, truly so." Mr.Harrison frowns, as if being reminded of some deep pain. "You see, my little brother has vanished, without a trace... so it's.."

"I understand, I understand." you wave a hand forward just to emphasize your point. "We don't have to dwell on it, I was just asking. Also, you're pretty strong dealing with it like this."

"Thank you." the teacher moves back to his desk to finish organizing the papers.

Well that didn't net any results.

Well this guy was of no help. He was sentimental, and you really DIDN'T care about his brother, as much as it is sad. You were always like that. Other people that say "Well that's too bad." or "That's horrible." to other people. They didn't care, they just said they did. Why did they do that, you ask? Comfort. The answer was really that simple. The only reason you've taken this upon yourself was to find out where your brother was. That's it. A couple of steps out of the classrom and you're on your way to the gym. Minutes pass, and you look around. There were people here for basketball practice, and that was it.

You talk with them, converse to see if you can get ANYTHING at all out of them and nothing. Rumors were spreading about how the people that have gone missing are being targeted by a ghost or something.

This investigation was totally going smooth.

Did the police or fire department find the cause of the fire?

Go to the burned down building, there might be leads there.

How old is Candice? So I know how to play her.

>>
>>20377731

She's 16.
>>
>>20377849

Her natural hair color is white, she dyes in black though.
>>
I've gotta say, our sister is pretty cold and cynical.
>>
>>20378120
She misses her brother too much.
>>
>>20378120
Seems like that and a "Only say and do what you really mean" mindset, based on her thoughts of what Harrison said and what she said.

But she is VERY cold.

A few minutes late you find yourself out on the outside of the school grounds. You pass by various people on your way to the scene of the crime. You don't pay them any mind, however. They never mattered to you then, they don't matter to you now. "Hello?" as you arrive, that's the first word that leaves your lips.

No one responds. They just walk on, past the scene of the crime and with their daily lives. The place was still burnt, there were some police cars around here, still examining the cause of the fire.

A sigh leaves your lips.

This was was really something. The air felt 'heavy', so to speak. With that in mind, you look around, hoping to find something or maybe a clue as to the where abouts of your brother.

End of Chapter 13
This one was slow, but I apologize for that.

Even though you didn't ask this time...
Was fun, interesting that we got a mech before we got a handgun.
Can't wait to see the combat capabilities of the Varian.

I presume Candice isn't so cold to her brother, which makes me want to see how they act to each other.

Both sides. Also depends on your definition of 'good'.
