"GGhhh..." white fills your vision. The cold morning air, the blue sky and the clouds above. It's morning. You try and think back on what happened the previous night, and it all comes flooding back. You went out at night for a walk, talked with Brunstault and came home to see Cadencia in bed. Afterward, both you and Brunstault got into a fight. She won, and you told her about yourself. You let out a yawn, then feel something on your neck.

The two of you fell asleep that night. You fell into Brunstault's lap. She placed her arm around your neck and then fell asleep against the bench.

"Zzzz..." she breathes in and out, a smile on her face. This was new.

You try and think of a way to move without waking Brunstault up.

I want to ask , how this kind of thread game is played??
Any rules or just the OP design everything??
>>
Basically.

OP posts, normally with options at the bottom.
Then people choose something to do.
>>
>>20332933
Really that simple??
I choose >> Just stay like this for a while, you don't know if Brunstault is a morning person!
This seems fun.

You can also put in your own ideas.
You aren't stuck to only the ones OP gives.
>>
>>20332951
There is also the [ ] Other option, where you suggest something else.
We're not a CYOA book; we can still choose an action that's not listed, as long as it has enough support.

Conflict resolution is done by a roll of d100, with certain modifiers to the roll. Higher rolls are better.
Success requires meeting or exceeding a specific Target Number.

You sit there on the bench, drifting between the realm of sleep and awareness. Brunstault's hand felt good fastened itself around your neck as she continued to sleep. Breathing in and out, the noise was almost hypnotic. Your eyes start to close, but you force them open. "Mmmm.." Brunstault stirs in her sleep, then awakens. "Good morning, Hero." the fox girl sits up from the bench, causing you to sit up as a result. The fox girl yawns, stretching her arms up into the air. "Ahhh, good morning. You slept well, yes?"

"Yeah, I did. Good morning Brunstealt."
"How did you sleep?"
"It beats sleeping on the cold, hard ground, if that's what you're asking." Brunstealt smiles. Well, this confirmed that she was a morning person.

"That it does." not that you would honestly know. You reach a hand forward, petting Brunstealt's tail. You touch the fluffy tail. The fox doesn't so much as bat an eye, she actually doesn't even care that you touch it. In response, she wags it back and forth.

"Seems you've recognized my magnificient tail! Go ahead and admire as much as you want." she grins, her teeth showing.

You continue to pet Brunstault's tail, a smile on your face. "So what's on your mind?" you ask the question before standing up. You pet her tail one last time before moving to Cadencia's door. You open it up, and realize that Cadencia is wide awake and already making breakfast.

"Nothing much to discuss." Brunstault places her finger in her mouth and chews. "Ah, breakfast! What are we having, Cadencia?"

"I was making eggs and bacon! Want some?" Cadencia places a single plate down, no, there were three. Did she predict the time you were going to wake up...? No, couldn't be. You walk forward, Brunstault follows you and the three of you sit down.

"So where are you off to today?"

"The Lunarian Ruins this time. Don't worry, I'll make sure to come home as fast as I can."

"Alright, then I'll have dinner ready for you!" Cadencia's smile was so serene.

"How about you come with us? We could use your magic, you know. When we fought those three Remnants, you did amazing!" you compliment Cadencia as you take a bite of the bacon.

"Oh, should I?" Cadencia's head tilts to the side. Both you and Brunstealt nod in unison as the both of you chow down on breakfast. Cadencia takes a moment to consider it, then smiles. "Very well then, you've convinced me." the funny thing was you didn't have to convince her, but you weren't going to jump on her for the use of words.

"So when should we head out, Hero?" Brunstealt speaks up, having already finished her breakfas- wait, it was only ten seconds and she was finished already? Well, that was disturbing.

>"When we're done eating."

>>
>>20334141

>>
>>20334141

Shouldn't we mention those 2 possible remnants?
>>
>>20334212
We will (at least I plan to), but right now is just pleasant conversation.
That is super serious.
>>
>>20334141
"When we're done eating, and everyone is ready to go."

We should tell Cadencia about Adfor and his wife, and how they're likely to become Remnants, before we leave.
>>
>>20334248
It might be pleasant conversation but I think Cadencia might appreciate being warned of two remnants sooner rather than later. Especially since this is kind of our job.
>>
>>20334330
Plus it's possible we may be able to cure or at least stall development of their infection. It's worked for that other remnant.
>>
>>20334330
By 'later' I mean after her responce.
"Ah, before we go to the ruins, there's someone I need to check on. I hope there still okay... This has to do with the Remnants, I'll explain how soon."
Soon in this case being on the walk there or on the way to the ruins.
>>
>>20334391
I think it should be done before we even start going to the ruins. This is the kind of thing that we shouldn't sit on.
>>
>>20334404
My intent is to not push her into anything.
I said 'or on the way to the ruins' in case she doesn't want to come to Adfors house with us, which I was also planning on asking her.

I'm a couple of thoughts ahead of everything and I don't want to bog it all down in one post without a responce from the person.
She says 'no' to one thing and it would all come apart.

"When everyone is prepared and ready." your eyes go from Brunstault to Cadencia. "Anything you need to get?" then your eyes fall on Brunstault once again. "AFTER breakfast... and wow, aren't you a fast one... other poeple like to SAVOUR their food, especially if there's a long travel ahead."

"Anything I need? I just need to put some applicable clothes on and I'll be ready to go... but yes, after breakfast." Cadencia goes to work on her food.

You start eating as well as conversation is cut short after that little exchange. After finishing up breakfast, the three of you stand up from the table. Cadencia puts the dishes away, goes to her room, gets cleaned up and walks on out wearing some fitting travel clothes. "I'm ready!" she says with a smile. Brunstault walks around in a circle, her hands on her head.

"So we're ready then?"

Cadencia nods, Brunstealt says nothing as she makes her way toward the door.

"I guess that's.. that then."

"Hey, guys. I've got something to take care of past the Bast Village and my old Master." you've only known him for two weeks, the man called Adfor the Moonknight. If what Brunstault said was true, about this Darkwyrm Virus, then Adfor's wife was going to transform. You had to do something about it. Brunstault remains quiet, Cadencia however speaks up.

"Are you saying your good byes?" the way she said that made your heart ache.

"Yeah, I guess so." the two of you continue onward to the Bast Village. Through the familiar scenery of the forest, through the library and down another path, you arrive at the Bast Village.

However, it's completely deserted. Brunstault's eyes turn to slits as she examines her surroundings. "Ah, so it's already begun. Degredation."

"I'll ask what you meanin a second, let's get to Adfor's house first! Keep up, Cadencia!" you grab Cadencia's hand and thrust forward, running as fast as you can. The two of you make it through the village, leaving Brunstault in the dust. Brunstault's eyes trace the village and the surrounding area.

"Perhaps not, they've evacuated?" the fox girl follows your pathway up to Adfor's house. You knock on Adfor's front door. There's nothing. You knock again, you don't even hear foot steps.

"Cadencia, do you see anything?"

The Summoner looks through the open window, frowning. "No, I don't see anything." she returns to you, frowning. "This is all strange."

You take in a deep breath and explain the situation, and how Adfor's wife and himself may become Remnants soon. Cadencia's response... is entirely unexpected. "Then we have a job to do." her voice was as cold as steel. Just... what?

"You're right, but remember, they can still be peaceful though. We can still talk." you say so as you stand up, running deeper into the forest behind Adfor's place. Cadencia nods, remembering that of Teijus, and she sprints after you. You wade through the bushes, drawing closer to your target. You could feel it. You were drawing closer and closer still. Then, the image unveils in front of you.

It was lake. "This is where I first met you, Anne." Adfor is in the middle of the scarlet, shallow water with a woman in his hands. "Where we danced, where we kissed..." his voice lacks any sort of emotion. He just keeps talking to himself as if he's the only one in the world. "You remember, right? When we got married." he grabs her lifeless hand and holds it against his cheek. There was no warmth. He kisses it before letting it go. "It's getting close to that time again, our anniversary." Adfor stands up, holding Anne in his arms. "AH, Anon, you've come for her, right? You've come for her, Anne, right?"

You take a step back. Even Cadencia is taken aback by this.

"How is she, Adfor?" your voice is monotone. The man that you've only known for two short weeks. He was in this state, and even then it was hard for you to lay eyes upon him. Cadencia remains silent, observing from afar.

"You call yourself a Guardian and you can't tell the dead from the living." Adfor sets his deceased wife down and into the crimson waters. He then stands up. He draws his own sword. It was soaked in the blood of Anne. "I killed her with my own two hands, boy. I told them to leave the village, a Remnant had appeared and I killed it. That's all they know, that's all they'll ever find out."

"You-"

"I'm not done, boy. There's another Remnant. Ah, right here." Adfor wore a cape over his other arm. He quicly unveiled it. There, an arm with multiple eyes. Red and black tendrils dripped off of the arm and fell into the red water before vanishing. "It took advantage of the darkness in my old heart... and now, it's come to this." Adfor smiles, holding back tears. "It all happened so fast... or no, it wasn't sudden, it was already there and I chose blissful ignorance to the reality of the world and the situation." Adfor laughs, but ceases. "Now you've come to take me to, right? I'm a monster to be defeated..."

Adfor steps forward, his blade revealed. "Let's end this, then." he assumes his stance. He slides one glance to his deceased wife, and smiles. He runs forward with his blade out.

The grieving knight swings his sword horizontally. You maneuver to the side to avoid it. Your blade, embued with blue energy, cuts a straight up, vertically into the heavens. An energy blade flies forward in an attempt to skewer Adfor's head.

He avoids it in the same manner that you avoided his slash. The two of you engange in a dance of steel. Each sword impacts one another, metal on metal. Sparks fly from each blow.

You deliver a powerful slash while Adfor matches it. You both space yourself from one another.

The waltz of death continues.

Water surges through the air as two blades meet. Adfor pushes you back further as he pushes against your own blade. You try to get free and launch more sword projectiles, but Adfor doesn't let you go. He breaks the tug-of-war and lunges forward, slashing down with his sword. You narrowly avoid it, only getting a diagonal cut on your stomach. Blood splashes down, joining the larger body of water below you.

"Gah." despite the pain, you still stand, ready to face the older man again.

He charges in with his sword raised.

There are tears in his eyes.

>What to do?
>>
>>20336842
Really, we need that speed boost.
Also, no giving in. We will not dishonor him now.

I'm not rolling.

Bring up our sword and thrust straight into him.

Blood trickles down from your open wound. You grin and bare it. You flood your body with magical energy to heal the wound as fast as possible. You increase your speed and reaction time in preparation for the next strike. You bring up your sword and thrust it forward. It sails through the air, only to meet nothing. The tip of the sword doesn't connect with Adfor's body. Using the tendrils on his arm, Adfor grabs you from a around five foot away.

The appendages wrap around your neck and draw you in. His blade sinks into your stomach, causing you to cough up blood upon impact. "GAAAaahhh!" Adfor tosses you to the other edge of the lake as if you were a skipping stone.

One, two, three you roll into the ground. Now with two wounds, you lie there in the red lake. You breathe in and out as you gather the strength to stand.

>What to do?
>>
rolled 66 = 66

>>20337027
Channel energy into self-healing and double our speed.
Materialize our zweihander in our hand again, and wait for him to come at us and commit to an attack. Send an energy blast towards him then.
>>
>>20337027
Would it be wrong to take out our gun?
He is using his tendrils.

I say fuck him up with our gun.
>>
rolled 72 = 72

>>20337027
Use our gun. Headshot.
He's using his tendrils, cheater.
>>
>>20337027
Why exactly are we getting into a sword fight with the guy who taught us everything we know when we have a perfectly good assault rifle?
I mean, honor's great and all but we'll look rather stupid if we get ourselves killed when there are better options to take.
Just something to think about.
>>
>>20337103
Distance, mostly.
Depending on how much magic he's pumping into increasing his speed, the distance at which he can effectively engage a person armed with a gun increases.
The normal range is about 17-20 feet. But since he's faster than normal, that range could be increased.
>>
>>20337103
I just got a 72 for a headshot with it.
That was when he was just using his sword. He's not now, so fuck him.
We'll at least hit something.
>>
rolled 66 = 66

>>20337138
You mean we'll get bullrushed the moment we put the sword away and try to take aim?
Well, there ARE probably a couple seconds where we're essentially naked which, coupled with a couple of bade rolls, could end us.

>>20337065
Healing is extremely important.

You could still stand. Energy ripples outward from your body your self-healing increases. You strengthen your body and push the limits of your speed to double. The longsword vanishes in a plume of light, and in its place is the Zweihander. The blade itself casts a white light which reflects itself on the murky surface of the lake water below you. However, you quickly drop the Zweihander and replace it wih he assault rifle. You grip it, take aim, and fire. The tendrils form a barrier as Adfor closes in. You keep firing, trying to get a headshot on the guy. You had to end this quick. The gun dissipates as you leap backward.

What you see next is horrifying. The tendrils have worked their way up Adfor's arm, into his shoulder and his head. He's losing his fight with his own psyche, his own grieving heart. "Adfor." you say so with remorse. You summon up the sword again for another go.

rolled 12 + 15 = 27

>You mean we'll get bullrushed the moment we put the sword away and try to take aim?
That's what I was afraid of. It still takes a second to materialize a weapon.

>>20337248
>Call out to Adfor and attack (1d100 +15)
Launch ourselves at him again, sword aimed at his heart and a barrier up to keep the tentacles away.

"GGgh... sorry Adfor, you wanted a sword duel, but rules change." you drop the sword into the lake. You clench your fist, building up as much energy into it as possible. You reroute everything, besides self-healing and speed, to your fist. "HERE I COME!" you sprint forward with all of you strength. You rip through the air, moving faster than a speeding bullet!

Adfor roars, forming up another guard with his tendril arm. "SCARLET..." you force your fist into the guard. It begins to crack. "ARROW..." the tendril's guard breaks. "ARROW!" your punch plunges through the guard and straight into Adfor's chest. You crush the energy that you pushed into your hand. A large explosion of red and blue radiates from your fist and devours the crimson lake. Adfor's body goes flying through the air. It spins in a corkscrew before landing just near his wife's own body.

What was left of the lake rains down from the sky. You stand there while grabbing your right arm. It hurt like HELL just making that attack equal to that of Brunstault's own, but you did it. Wait, your right arm was now broken in three places. Wonderful, but Cadencia could probably fix that.

We should finish off Adfor before he tries to show us his true form. I've fought too many bosses that transform. We can heal after.

My mind is going. This darkness, this virus is eating me alive. My own ambitions are my downfall, thanks to this sickness, thanks to this godforsaken world. It's nothing, it's all a joke. I've fought to protect that joke, so that makes me a hypocrite. "Hahaha." I chuckle. Even though I lie there dying, I can still laugh at myself.

I am a joke, really. I lied to myself, I lied to Anne and the world. This is a fitting end for me. Oh, I see it. The shimmering silver of a sword is right before my eyes.

Do it, boy. Do it for me, do it for my wife and do it for yourself. Grow as a person and keep running forward. You don't need me and I don't think you ever did.

I close my eyes and welcome the end.

You end his life. The blade dips into his throat, and the old man dies lying there in the lake of blood. The man that taught you how to use a sword in a few weeks. You've known him only for a bit, but the pain of loss was still there. "Dammit." you shake your head from side to side before glancing at Brunstault. She was there beside Cadencia. She watched the whole thing unfold from start to finish. "Brunstault, what were you talking about when you said degredation?"

"Ah, the process in which a Remnant.. er... releases its 'spores', so to speak. The way it multiplies. Adfor must have warned the others in the Bast Village to evacuate because he knew this was going to happen." she says so with a smile on her face.

"I see. I think this island is clean now." you look at the deceased couple who lie beside one another.

There, above Adfor's bloody throat, is a smile.

"Alright, let's get a move on. Albert's probably waiting for us." you turn to walk away from the scene.

Brunstault bites her lip. "What's wrong?" Cadencia says, taking hold of Brunstault's hand.

"Nothing, nothing. Let's mosy!" Brunstault walks forward and then pulls Cadencia further into the thicket and to the Bast Village.

End of Chapter 11

Good aside from the awful /tg/ dice, but that's not your fault.

We should find out what Brunstault's problem is next thread, leaving problems to fester only makes them worse.

...And maybe we can steal more of Brunstault's moves.
>>
>>20337712
Interesting to see this determined side of Cadencia.

We maybe should have set the bodies on fire, though, to get rid of any spores that would carry the virus.

Except for us having a little clusterfuck on weapon choice, but that was the players.

Is it 'Burn' or Brun and 'stealt' or 'stault'?

Making the next thread about Sora's cute loli adventures just because. Wouldn't it be funny if that was true?

Oh right, tomorrow's thread may be a little later in the day at around 3 or 4, depending on circumstances. Check this thread tomorrow for an update or drop by the IRC.

I think I'm going to go with Brunstault because it.. sounds better, I suppose. That and I've grown into the habit of typing that one much more.

I'm still gonna mess with Burgerstealers name from time to time.
It's fun.
