The Brood has witnessed the rebirth of the Xel'Naga, the parents of our Father. They have returned with a fleet of nearly 200 worldships, and have decided to test our claim to Perfection.

We have passed two of their three physical tests. One remains, followed by the psionic and essence tests.

Of course, we have nukes ready, if we decide not to keep dancing.
>>
>>20268058
DANCE! I COMMAND IT! Also let's add the CORE fleet to the "just in case it goes wrong" plan.
>>

You'd like to send more of Cyberbrate's Love Muffins toward the Cube?
>>
Depending on how long it took to move the Nebula, can we (seeing as stalling for time was one of our goals) get some info on what (if any) projects we started in those weeks/months have borne fruit?
Not sure if we ever got consensus for them, but I think the suggestions were:
Messing with arbiter stasis technology to make moon-crackers.
Making Protoss Hybrids.
Armoring a heighliner better or making a few slipspace-capable love-muffins.
Weaponizing emotions and concepts. (Yes, I am serious about that. It's no more unfeasible than an overwhelming sensor lock from a modern battleship is. At least unless CAnon says it is. :P)
>>
>>20268120
I think he meant we should simply remember that we have the option of false-flagging attacks as CORE, Terrans or Protoss, but mainly CORE.
>>
>>20268120
Well, in the general area of, and have then stalk the worldships from a couple of light years away.
>>
This thread would be far more effective if it wasn't leaked 2 years ago that the Zerg end up as space whales floating free and magical through the cosmos.
>>
>>20268137
>Messing with arbiter stasis technology to make moon-crackers.
How would we do that?
>Making Protoss Hybrids.
Labbrate is setting up cloning bays for its Protoss right now. All of its cloned Protoss are integrating perfectly into the Swarm. Nargil still has not solved its giant brain problem.
>Armoring a heighliner better or making a few slipspace-capable love-muffins.
Nobody but you suggested this, and Accountantbrate reminds us that the "slipspace-capable" part is what makes the heighliners so damned expensive to begin with.
>Weaponizing emotions and concepts.
No. I used this as a specific example of why something was impossible. I have no idea how you came to the conclusion that this was a reasonable request.

>>20268196
I don't know what you're talking about at all. Even if that's...somehow the canon ending, which would be retarded, we've disregarded pretty much all of Blizzard's post-Brood War canon entirely, and adapted most of what's left.
>>
>>20268239
I'd say we disregarded Brood War cannon too, What with the UED actually having a fleet, and no pair of crystals that power a planet cleaner.
>>
>>20268239
>Messing with arbiter stasis technology to make moon-crackers.
For example: Stasis-beams that rotate around eachother, tearing a hole through the entire planet (assuming we can stretch the stasis field that far) as the affected area is forced to come to a stop compared to the rest of it.
It's just an example. Now that I think about it, why not just ask Labrate if he can come up with weapons that could feasibly threaten a planet-sized ship.
>Nobody but you suggested this, and Accountantbrate reminds us that the "slipspace-capable" part is what makes the heighliners so damned expensive to begin with.
I didn't say it wasn't a minority-choice. :P (And the expense is why we only make 1-2, as opposed to a full dozen. But seriously, we do need something that doesn't die from a scratch. o.o)
>Weaponizing emotions and concepts.
D'aw... But the Emperor does it, with his emitting of overwhelming awe or simply injecting mind-numbingl fear into enemies. But okay, I'll give it up. x)
Can we use regular psychological warfare psionically? Like obscene amounts of white noise (or the sound of scratching, crawling? I may be taking too many hints from Tyranids, but it feels like this is the kinda stuff we'd be stupid not to do)?
>>
>>20268350
I used the UED, Duran, valkyries, Zakuras, and the shipyards, though. That's got to count for something.

It's kinda funny that we decided to nuke Duran to all holy hell just because it might have made things really really complicated in the future. Well, that and he didn't really have anything useful to offer us aside from "HEY GUYS! I'M GONNA FORM MY OWN INDEPENDENT BROOD! TOTALLY NOT GOING TO BITE YOU GUYS IN THE ASS AFTERWARDS, I SWEAR!"
>>
>>20268516
Yeah, it didn't help that Bernie had just been all uppity.

Of course, Kerrigan has her own Brood, and that hasn't bitten us in the ass...

(If you guys want to ask the Xel'Naga for the next test, we can do that, by the by)
>>

I say we ask them for the last test.
>>
>>20268600
Oh, I thought it was coming already. My bad, I should have said ask for the next test, and hope it's dancing.
>>
>>20268600
Yes, let's do that.
Can we ask Labrate if the stasis-cannon is feasible, or if he can come up with a moon-cracker of his own (maybe something like the NOVA-bomb from the Halo novels that multiplies the power of a number of nukes, or simply a massive yet small-bore yamato cannon capable of cutting through it in no time)?
Can he also prepare a number of theoretical tests and responses for the other tests in the meantime? If he doesn't have the brainpower to spare, can we lease some of our humans (infested or not) to do it?

>>20268812
Mere seconds after the Xel'Naga speaks, craft fall from the skies above Xenta, Yoshus, Umoja, Tarsonis, and Dagobah.

One appears over Moria, but, as has periodically happened since the heighliner incident, the craft came out of warp horribly mangled, and is destroyed by Terran defensive measures before it can reach the atmosphere.

Across our worlds, we feel a foreign presence crawling, squirming in hundreds of thousands of skins...including almost all of our cerebrates, and even ourself.

We have been infected.

Nargil begins its standard immune responses to infection. After about 20 minutes, we still feel sick, and Nargil is very flustered. It tells us that it has encountered hard-to-fight infections in the past, and has a few more extreme measures to try.

Labbrate's culture samples come back with frightening results. The samples have all grown great, hairy green lesions. Labbrate suspects that this disease might begin to cause death in our larvae within the hour, and the smaller Zerg not long after that. It begins work immediately on a cure.

Right...?

Nargil becomes increasingly panicked as its immune responses fail to contain the disease, which it tells us is spreading into the Creep and across all of our colonies on the affected worlds.

Labbrate, on the other hand, has some great success in controlling the infection's growth in the lab, though it hasn't managed to stop it. It continues to work on it samples.

Nargil immediately begins mutating glands that secrete Labbrate's medicines, regardless of how incomplete they are.

"It's magic, I don't gotta explain shit" is stupid no matter how you put it.
If magic is a plot point of a large story, you need at least a basic theory of how it works so that your story doesn't devolve to "why doesn't he wave his fingers and make sh*t happen".

Especially in ANY medium where the protagonists themselves use magic, even more so in a science fiction quest where EVERYTHING that happens has implications beyond the obvious.
.
At the very least you have to explain what they can or can't do. If you just go "it's magic, I don't gotta explain shit" it removes all Willing Suspension of Disbelief, and leaves a very poor story that is hard to get interested in since it consists of nothing save "What Asspull will the writer use to save/wreck the day this time?".

(Note that characters in a medium might have the "Magic is magic, it's not science" (Because it's totally science. EVERYTHING with an effect is science) opinion, but if the author has it, it quickly goes to sh*t.)
>>
>>20269434
>(We probably would have quarantined them, had there been more than about 10 seconds' warning...)
Ah, well, that explanation satisfies me. :3

However, since your time is limited, can we set up a general "Development Community" among our terrans (or even our infested terrans, depending on how much of their minds are still there) that can research everything the same way modern humanity does today?

That way your not-infinite-time doesn't impact the story as much and we can have stuff developed in the background without having to detract from the main narrative (and won't have to fall into pitfalls of "we suck at that because we didn't devote half a thread to it" when there are ridiculously many (hundreds, maybe thousands that even I can see, and I'm the founder of a religion for crazy people. :P) potential research paths we should be pursuing at all times.
>>
>>20269637
I'm pretty sure the Morians are doing just that. Granted they're probably focusing more on resource extraction and industry, and will only tell us what they're working on if we ask them to, but I always assumed that the Morians are trying to be the most useful and productive client state possible. Since, I assume anyway, Sakai is smart enough to know that their continued existence rests solely on how we feel about them.

>a science fiction quest where EVERYTHING that happens has implications beyond the obvious

A matter of perspective. Half the time, I worry my plot twists are too retardedly easy to see coming.

As to the rest, I generally agree, though I hasten to point out that a lot of "I aint gotta explain shit" justifications come from writers who just don't want to spend all their time writing out the complex metaphysical interactions that govern the internal workings of a fictional universe. Is there a good in-universe reason that lightsabers only go out three feet? Sure. Should Lucas have let people define it as a weird diamond-intensified arc welder instead of saying "I aint gotta explain shit"? I think not, because the concept was cool and internally consistent without it, and the explanation merely adds a new layer of questions, like how an arc welder can beat on another arc welder like lightsabers do, which just leads to retarded canon bloat.

Labbrate has a breakthrough. It immediately gives Nargil its cure, and glands develop across our worlds distributing it both to units, and to the Creep. We lost several larvae, more than the Zerg have lost to disease in a millennium, but we have cured this plague and passed our test.

Great, let's ask them what they're up to and seed more humans on other worlds so that we have a large scientific community.
And, as the initial suggestion was, start corporations of our own among them with the aim of military, social and medical superiority for either or both races in mind.

In short: Research the living sh*t out of EVERYTHING!
AT THE SAME TIME!
IN THE BACKGROUND!
OF THE NARRATIVE!
TO BE PULLED OUT AS NEEDED!

>>20269727
Excellent example! No, he doesn't have to explain HOW it works, but he does have to explain WHAT it does (which he did, aka melt through nearly everything in short order save X materials.).
The readers can come up with theories and conclusions of their own from there (X materials have Y and Z in common. Not necessarily correct, but fun and helps build immersion), it's one of the ways a fictional world can really take on a life of its own.
(In fact, I think the Expanded Universe explained somewhere that the name 'Lightsaber' is a bit misleading as they're plasma tubes in electro-magnetic containment fields or something or something like that.)

>Are you prepared, Cerebrate?
Probably not, but let's not tell them that. Would rather spend at least a week more exploring our protoss.
(Actually, since our protoss has far more experience using psionics to affect things rather than communication, can pull some quick science (or maybe we researched in the background) to channel our potential better or potentially allow our infested Protoss to turn into Archons?)

Most of our cerebrates, their Psi Emitters pumping our presence into them, maintain contact, but Warbrate, Accountantbrate, Defensebrate, and Salem Saberhagen all drop out of our minds.

Well yeah, but if something doesn't work I don't want us to have to spend half an hour picking the next thing (We can start sending emitters and rotating our psi-cannons in the meantime while we do other stuff, right? I mean, some of the suggestions only take microseconds while others take seconds, minutes or hours. o.o).
I'll just vote in order of priority. :3
1 Consult Protoss Memories (Nigh-instant?)
2 Ask Labrate and/or Nargil for advice while implementing the others (Nigh-instant?).
3 Psi Cannon that sh*t. (Seconds?)
4 Send moar Emitters. (Minutes-hours?)

(...huh)

Scouring our absorbed memories from the Protoss, we find...nothing of use. Nothing at all. Honestly, we're a little surprised that there wasn't at least something.

(4d25 fortitude roll for our babies, then you can try something else)

Psi-Cannon now, yes?
>>
>>20270853

Oh, I know that. I'm a regular in both quests.

But the /tg/ dice likes to fuck us over at the most vital points, only to offer crits when we're doing the most desperate level of damage control. Although I will admit that the rolls made during the AMG canon session were pretty good when they needed to be.

Now if only we could hijack some of MSQ's luck...
>>
>>20270864

Yes, I think psi-cannons would be a great idea right now.
>>
>>20270853
And it seems we left behind another major antagonist. . .

You have been very very sneaky.

We've come so far, I'm against doing a psi-cannon thing and ruining all the luck we've had passing their tests.
>>

Start charging one ahead of the others, if we get contact from the cerebrate after the first shot/charge/beam, interrupt them. If not, keep firing.
>>
>>20270948
Aren't they all on Xenta, except Salem Saberhagen who I think is on a moon of that one planet that has four resource rich moons. But there is no reason not to try to save everyone as quick as possible, meaning at the same time.
>>
>>20270978
... huh? We're using it to pass their test, which we're currently failing.
>>

Just one cannon.
>>
>>20270987
Warbrate is in space over Yoshus. The troops there not under its control confirm that it's still there. Defensebrate is on Tarsonis. Salem Saberhagen is still on a remote colony, yes.

The only one on Xenta is Accountantbrate.

So, was the Zeratul being alive thing because of me?

Because I'm the one who went "Holy shit, Zeratul probably taught them. Holy shit. He's probably on the ships we just stole right now. Hey MetaOp?"

>No, he's still back home.

The second shot rings true, and Salem Saberhagen's mind rushes back into ours. It asks what took us so long.

That's a good place to stop, before the next psionic test. Looks like we're going to be meeting on the 18th, unless a friend's medical stuff gets out of hand, in which case we'll have to wing it. Gotta be Mr. Helpful and hold hands.
