You can tell she's yelling at you from the way she moves her body.
She?
She's wearing armor, you can't tell her gender. Still, she.
The words don't reach you; the roaring sound in your ears sees to that. Why's she tilted ninety degrees -
- right, you're lying down. Did you faint?
Your armor clinks as you twist to see why you're on the ground. Maybe that silver th
Ę̴̀͟͟N̡̢É̀͟͏̢M̧͘͞Y͢
the pain that shoots through your head does a real good job of discontinuing that line of thought and jolts you into thinking clearly.

You're on the ground in the middy of a grassy field under a blue sky. Or maybe it used to be grassy; right now it's so torn up that you'd swear an earthquake hit it. The others are blotted out of your mind; the only other thing you can see is the silver demon staring you down - 'silver' might not be the word, maybe 'chrome' is better. Hulking thing, twelve feet tall and made out of armored muscle, black ichor dripping over ivory fangs - then there's what you take to be its eye, a single, unblinking crimson eye centered in its forehead; it throws aside its latest kill and howls inaudibly. The headache intensifies.

Kill or be killed.

You plant your hand on the ground and hear a sound, realize you've grabbed something, twist your head to look as you rise...

> [ ] ... A blade, humming gently with promise.

I'm perversely curious about what a 'bust weapon' is, but let's go with something that's not a firearm.
>>
(Guh. It was meant to be "buster" and my fingers failed me. Like a pilebunker.)
>[x] ... A blade, humming gently with promise.

You come to your feet, hefting the blade. It's a long weapon, almost the length of your body, but in your hands it's light and familiar. The blade actually vibrates in the air, creating a low-pitched whine; all you have to do is twist the grip to make it blur at a frequency that will cut metal like butter.

As the beast approaches, you catch sight of yourself in its armor,

Similar. Joker's form of execution is good, though, so I'm borrowing it.

> [X] heavily armored, built to shrug off anything
- so when it clashes with you, you step back and barely feel the impact.
The sudden crash seems to clog your ears free; now you can hear - hear your blade whining, hear this *thing* snarling in your face, and you can hear that girl in the purple armor yelling to you from behind, too -
"- are you stupid? Stick to the plan and get out of there before it eats you, idiot!"

Oh mama, what the fuck? Back away from this thing until we get our bearings.
>>

Oh boy. Chrome Disaster is bad juju, why are we even fighting him?

I say we stick to the plan and stage a fighting retreat. Try to walk away backwards or sideways but never take your eyes from the enemy. Chrome Disaster should be fast as hell, we always need to be able to position a blade between him and us asap if he attacks

You bring your blade up fast, smashing it across the face as it closes, which doesn't injure it so much as surprise it, and you start backing away as quickly as you can, albeit the weight of your armor slightly slows your retreat. You can hear a very hurried conversation behind you -

"Look at Chrome Bringer's level."
"- no way, she dropped to Level 1? But she was -"
"Remind me to never fight against you."
"I didn't do *that* -!"

- and you back off a little faster since whatever they're talking about definitely doesn't sound good. On closer inspection, your blade did leave a cut on the Disaster's face, but it's already healing over.
The second voice, the dusky one, calls over to you.
"Just keep going back!"

Dudes, i happen to know the Light Novel this is based on. We do not want to kill Chrome Disaster, he is the settings equivalent of Lucius the Eternal. If you kill him you get his Armor, which corrupts your thought processes until you become a monster. Even loosing to him is preferable to defeating him since loosing the game in Accel World only means you cannot use Burst powers anymore and are exempt from the Game. Not much harm done.

Take any info i give you with a grain of salt, its been a while since i read the Novel and i did not read the whole series

Wait, are we female? Holy shit, we gotta look down. Do we have boobs?
>>
You glance down - hard to tell anything under armor - and keep retreating, to the point that you almost bump into the purple one who told you to retreat in the first place. Her partner, in sleek all-black armor and a metallic duster, steps in front of you, speaking calmly as Chrome Disaster advances.
"Delayed Impact."
The ground ahead of you explodes upwards as the Disaster steps forward, both stunning it and obscuring the field in dust. You feel the purple one put her arm around you.
"We are getting out of here."

"Based on", I took some advice from the interest-drum thread and took the "based on" route rather than just straight up doing it, since that lets me both tweak it to be easier to access and because, you know, the novels aren't translated and the anime isn't complete.

The world falls away around you, digitizing and coming away at the seams - is it falling away, or are you?

You 'land' on a soft couch, lying flat. Creamy walls, nothing like where you were.
"Well, *that* didn't go as planned." Purple's voice. You don't react yet; your body feels sluggish, like it's disconnected from you. There's an open window across from you - it's night, so you can see a plainish teenage girl staring back at you. You blink. So does she. Your reflection doesn't seem to be much more connected to the world than you, though.
"... you okay?"
You feel something shake you and start to move, not quite responding yet. Purple's voice goes into concern mode.
"Hey - hello, anyone in there? Uh..." you tell her that yes, you can see that she's holding up two fingers in front of your face (even if you can't see her yet), and she moves on. "Okay, let's try something more complex..."

"Can you tell me your name?"

Best of both worlds:
You mumble out "Amane Yurina" and finally convince your body to move for you so that you can sit up. The room is a fairly nice loungeroom, mostly dominated by books and electronics; the girl speaking to you is on the couch opposite, leaning over curiously.
"You sure you're okay? I mean, that was... very, very strange."
Yeah, this is Purple. You're surprised that someone in such waspish armor is so dressed-down and mostly legs.

"What happened indeed... just sit for a minute and I'll get you some painkillers." she stands up - her shirt is several sizes too large which probably contributes towards her decision to not bother with including shorts in her evil-fighting kit today - and moves to a mini-fridge in the corner. Come to think of it, the lounge is a mess; it's covered with books, mostly about programming.

>[x] "I didn't catch your name...?"

Her eyes gleam, which makes you feel uncomfortable, like she's examining you. Maybe 'dissecting' would be a better term. She starts musing, although she remembers to hand you the bottle at least (where are those painkillers anyway?).
"System shock...? But there's been no recorded cases of that... and there's no way something that dangerous wouldn't be picked up in The System's test runs... assuming they *did* any... but the game is so glitch-free that they had to... unless it's a side effect of splitting you from the Armor of Calamity, but that shouldn't have this kind of repercussion in reality..." she trails off into self-conversation that is far, far too technical for you to have any hope of following.

>[x] "Um, can I get an answer as to what actually happened?"

"Huh - oh." Holly shakes her head. "Simple, really; you contacted us to see if you could get rid of... well, in the game, I'm Amethyst Divide; my special ability is to separate my target from their Enhanced Armament. Since you came down with a bad case of the Armor of Calamity, you wanted me to, well, Divide it from you..."
She realises the whole 'Armor of Calamity; thing isn't clicking.
"The Armor of Calamity is a found-only Enhanced Armament that gives the wielder great power at the cost of a loss of control. The idea was that I'd separate you from it, rather than disabling you and dragging you to your Master to be Executed and booted from The System, but I have no idea what happened... the Armor shouldn't be able to move on its own, and then there's what's happened to you now..."

Your head is all but spinning at this point, trying to assimilate what happened.
So... you somehow *were* that thing, and then Holly separated you from it, except now you don't remember anything and it's still walking around?

She's very distracting to watch as she enters, graceful to the last and wearing an ensemble of stockings, miniskirt, and tank top, although she somewhat ruins the effect by adding in a green hoodie slumped around her shoulders. This must be the one who performed that strange blasting technique.

As she listens, she looks progressively more disturbed, like someone in the throes of a flashback. She glances at Holly. "Isn't this -"
"No, of course not. That was a freak occurrence caused by an outside event; it will never happen again." Holly assures her cheerily.

"The System is the name of an online game played through the neuralnet uplink. The game reads your personality and generates an Avatar for you based on what it decides is fitting for you. Strictly speaking the game has no end goal, but the rumor is that whoever reaches Level 10 - that is, experience level 10 - will be in a position to decide the direction the world is going in. However, at the moment, the few Level 9 players there are have each declared a truce, as they can't come to a decision on who should have that position. Even then, the general media follows the System, and quite a few of the high-level players are celebrities in their own right." she looks at you to ask where you want to go next.

"You're Chrome Bringer. Or you were. You used to be a Level 8 player, but for some reason your Level has been reduced to 1 and it looks like you lost basically all of your customized equipment." she notes. "The System uses a color chart," a window opens within your field of vision, as a shared pop-up, "which determines where your ability lies. An Avatar has both a color and a descriptor as their name. The two exceptions are Metals, and Faint Colors, like you and me; Metal Avatars frequently have good defensive abilities and physical augments, while Faint Colors have exotic abilities that don't fit properly on the chart."

>[x] "What level are you two?"
She smirks. "We're both Level 8. Although we're actually a lot stronger than our level implies."

>[x] "I'm still confused about how that Armament of Calamity thingy factors in."
"I'm sure Holly explained this already, but the *Armor* of Calamity is a strange Enhanced Armament that causes an Avatar to run wild. Previously it's been subdued and Executed, but that's never stopped it coming back. - and when it runs wild like that, we call it Chrome Disaster. That your color is identical caused a lot of fuss, let me tell you."
>>
>>20264567
>[x] "But isn't it just a video game...?"
Habicht considers this. "Yes and no. In a manner of speaking it's a very serious mental sport, and a lot of people play it with that mindset. For some people, they spend a lot of time in the game because they're playing with friends or people they've met. A select few want to get to Level 10 and take that prize, but they've always been crushed by the Kings before. So you're aware, if a Level 9 is defeated by another Level 9 player, then the System will no longer be useable to them."

>[x] "How do you play?"
"The game itself is played through the neurolinker everyone has that lets them access the Augment Reality Network, but since it literally operates as fast as your brain does, you can spend hours in the game in only a few seconds of reality. The caveats are this: there is a Pointbuy system. However, accessing certain portions of the game cost Points on their own, and losing will dock you points. Humor me and open up your stat window."

It takes you a little to find it, but you do, sharing it openly. She wrinkles her nose. "Holly?"
"Ohh this is bad, Captain." Holly mutters. "She's been nerfed to the point where she's effectively a starting character. In fact, she *is*. No special ability, one offensive and defensive item, and completely basic stats with the offensive and defensive +1s for being a Metal type." she makes a frustrated sound. "Sorry, this is something I should have fores-"
Habichte raises a hand to shut her up. "Relax, nobody could have. Okay: when you play, you gamble an amount of points equal to your level by ten. So a level 1 can, at most, lose 10 points per battle. Further, if the opponent is at least three levels higher than you, you can't lose enough points to get knocked out. You can buy stats, to a maximum of your level times two, by dropping the new total times ten on the stat - so upgrading to 2 in a stat, which is the Level 1 maximum, would cost you 20 points. Equipment is something you don't need to worry about until you Level Up again, so I won't clog the explanation with it."

She nods. "That's it."

Can I look into it?" she asks Habicht for permission, and she thinks about it before she agrees.
"Yes... that shouldn't be a problem as long as you're careful."

Specific memories are gone, but judging by the way you can still use your AugReality interface just fine, all the functional memories are intact.

>[x] "Legion?"
"A Legion is a faction of players who function as an army. Each of the strongest Level 9 players leads a Legion, and there are some smaller ones. For example, Holly and I comprise a Legion called Chase The Light. Legions have a few advantages, such as having a social network, and you can compete in the regional battles too to win territory for your Legion. One other thing is that a Legion Master has the ability to Execute a member of their Legion - to erase their Avatar and prevent them from ever playing in the System again."
"We think it was a failsafe for things like Chrome Disaster." Holly chimes in.

>[x] "How about you guys?"
"Nah, not really." Habicht shakes her head. "I have in the past, but not in the System. I guess we have some infamy among the Legions as being too strong for our Level, but not with the media."

>"Ok. If i was that much of a Loner why would you go up against that scary Disaster Monster to get the Armor off me? Did i know you or what?"
Holly fields this one. "Not beyond being idle acquaintances, but Chrome Disaster's reawakening is basically the in-game equivalent of a natural disaster... because Chrome Disaster possesses the ability to Execute those it devours. Legion lines don't matter at that point; pretty much everyone will be willing to work together just to get rid of it. So it's not surprising that you'd come to someone whose special ability might be useful to you."

Truth be told, now that you're out of the warmth of her apartment, the fear starts settling in - nothing you can't handle, of course, but it definitely makes you walk faster and shrink in on yourself.

Are you going for Japan school system where there is school on saturdays or is it the weekend and we are in the clear?
>>
>>20265593
No, it's the weekend, you're in the clear.
>>
>>20265641
I think we're waiting on you to bring us home then so we can see if there's anything there for us.
>>
Your feet seem to know where you're going, and home isn't really that far away - only a few blocks, really. Although you're not as lucky; as opposed to an apartment complex, you're stuck in a student doghouse - two room and bathroom affair where each 'room' is maybe a third the size of an actual one.

Still, it's home.
And still, it's very nearly empty - certainly nothing personal that you can see, just necessities.
You flop onto your bed, both tired and scared.
Who the hell *are* you? If anybody went looking they'd never be able to find out.

Making the sudden transition from 'scared and tired' to 'utterly exhausted', you crawl under the covers and curl into a ball, hoping that by the time you wake up your memories will be back in your head.
Or anyone's memories.
Any memories at all.
The blackness of sleep is almost a welcome reprieve.

Almost.

(Well, that shook the cobwebs off... next week I'll probably start earlier. I'm more out of practice than I thought; sorry.)

Any idea on time you're gonna aim to start? Same day?
>>
>>20265813
Likely. I purposely picked this gap since I knew Joker wasn't going to be running tonight.

It was pretty good. Your writing style isnt bad. I'd like to see a fight though in the next installement. Cheers OP, and thanks.

Aiming for.

Indeed, definitely interested to see some combat. Although it is odd that this character has almost no social life it seems. Hope I can catch this next week - looking forward to it.

Curioser and curioser I hope...
I'm going to go to bed now as I've been up literally all night, but if the thread is still up when I wake up I'll answer any questions or whatever (within reason).

Did anyone archive this?
>>
>>20266593

Not yet. But Sup/tg/ is only a couple of clicks away.
>>
>>20266661
It's been done then.
>>
>>20265942
Might be a decent idea to just dump a general idea of what the main character does remember about her past.
>>
>>20267680
And ruin the next thread's opening sequence -!?
