ON THE LAST THREAD you talked to the grizzly bear who's also a historian and got some SWEET SWEET information regarding the world around you. Now with that knowledge, you go to bed for the night!

------------------------------------

"Hey, you up yet!" knock knock. You hear someone knocking on your door. You merely sigh at the racket. "Hey, ****, are you up for school yet?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm coming." your name was ****. Late teens, last year of high-school. Everything was average. Two little sisters, an older brother. A hard working father and a worry-wort of a mother. A life you were satisfied with. "Alright, now I have to-"

Then you realize it.

You're not home. You're on the second floor of the Vernegard Inn, who knows how far away from home. "Right, right." the image of the small, black-haired girl at the doorway vanishes. It was your own memories haunting you again. "School.. right." you shake the memories away. You stand up, stretching your arms into the air and cracking your neck.

You do the necessities. You clean yourself, go to the restroom and put your clothes on...

Oh god, please let Abner have at least introduced indoor plumbing, toilets, and toilet paper before he died.

Or this world developed magic toilets that work like mystic versions of those techno-toilets from Japan.

If we have to use a chamberpot, introducing toilets is the first thing we do, before the mechanical sliderule magic calculator.

That little girl's face. Your younger sister, Candy or Candice. The former was the nick name you gave her. "Ghk.. you're a bastard, you know that?" you were of course referring to your own mind. It keeps betraying you with stuff that isn't there, just pushing you to the edge of insanity. Despite your discontent, you move out the door and make your way to the first floor of the bar. There were people already having drinks, having discussion, having a good time. You look around for the familiar grizzly bear Bast Albert, but he is nowhere to be found. With your second objective in mind, you don't waste any time leaving the bar.

...

You knock on Cadencia's door twice. You don't receive a response so you knock again. And again. Still nothing. You grit your teeth in frustration and punch it. "WAKE UP!"

You hear a thud. In the next second you hear foot steps coming close and closer still. The door unlocks, "Hiiiiiiii." Cadencia lets out an exaggerated greeting.

Your Summoner, the lovely cadencia, has her blonde hair sprawled out in strange curls and patterns. Beneath her eyes are large bags that spell out the night she had. She was either drunk, or she stayed up the entire night for something. "Come in, come in." you take her invitation and walk on in.

"You're not looking too well. Rough night?" you take a seat in a chair near the window. It overlooks Cadencia's backyard which consists of very tall grass and a birdhouse. Nothing that really catches the eye out there.

"Y-yeah. I was doing research and working on the spell to send you home all night. I didn't fall asleep until uh... I can't remember." Cadencia speaks as she grabs a comb nearby. She runs it through her hair to straighten it out. The young summoner takes a seat right beside you as she yawns.

"Anyway, you were going to talk with the king of Lancastle, right? You need me to be there?"

"No, I can handle it myself and you need to be here to protect Vernegard." she yawns again, causing you to do it yourself.

"AAaahhh.. alright.. now I should really get some combat instruction. I'm no soldier, right now."

"Right, right, you can go talk to Grandpa about that. I couldn't arrange anything due to my... circumstances. Maybe you should go ask around the Knight Barracks? I'm sure someone can help you out."

"Thanks alot..." you shake your head from side to side.

>What to do?

"Alright. I'll ask around. Maybe you should get some more sleep before heading out; wouldn't look good to show up looking that."

So, head to the Castle, ask the King about training with the Knights.

Maybe read up more on magic, try to understand basics.

We've got maybe two weeks before the next Remnant comes nosing around.

"Alright, I'll ask around. Maybe you should get some more sleep before heading out; wouldn't look good to show up looking like that." you stand up from the chair, walking toward the door. "I'm going to head to the castle. Good luck, alright?" you move out, grab the door and open it. Before long, you find you're on your way to the Castle.

Cadencia nods slowly and falls back asleep. You had to let her get some rest, or otherwise she'd look bad in front of the King of Lancastle. Now, you make it to the King and ask your questions. The King told you to go to the barracks and try and find something, as when you walked in on him he was busy. Some LONG conversation that was. You give up and do as he said. You make your way to the knight's barracks and ask around. They were training, getting everything in order. Most of them ignored you because of their own business.

"Tch... I appreciate the help, guys."

"Get out of the way." a large man, black hair, silver armor, bumps into you and pushes you out of the way as company of around ten knights make their way through. You were the Guardian, you didn't have to put up with that kind of shit.

"Excuse me, sir." you reach out your hand and take hold of the knights arm. "I may be new here, but you owe me an apology. If you would rather not, then we can settle this outside." your eyes turn to slits. Your social skills were still at the equivalent of a slab of rock.

"Oh, you're our Guardian now, right?" the man immediately deduces your identity just by your clothes. "You're going to protect us? Hahaha..hahaha." he chuckles to himself as if it's a joke. "Fine, fine, I can humor you."

Without much delay, the two of you walk outside. Your opponent, who's the Captain of the Knight's, wields a long sword and a shield. You, however, wield a Zweihander with ONE hand. The captain, who's name is Drei, stares straight at you. A two handed weapon user, he thinks. You have more reach ,but he thinks you'll be slowed using a weapon like that. As the gong sounds, the man moves forward to attack you. He's quick, using some type of magic to increase his movement. You immediately recognize the style as Zelfine. He moves forward in for a stabbing motion. He raises his shield to prepare for a counter attack!

You see the blade coming. You adjust your stance and ready the Zweihander. You move one foot back in an attempt to dodge the sword but... you're too late.

"HAH!" the shield comes flying in, smashing you in the head. Your unable to react. He sped up at the last minute to deliver the blow.

"Tch..." you stumble back a few feet before regaining your footing. You raise your own sword up and grin. The second wave was coming, you had to be prepared. Drei races forward, his shield held out toward you and the blade to the side. You try and predict what he's going to do and strike...!

You have to think on your feet! You quickly lower yourself to the ground and swing the Zweihander to force him to jump. You don't confirm the hit as you prepare so see an airborn Knight Captain. Instead... he leaps back to completely dodge it. Your body, unable to react, is assaulted by the shield yet again. He was so fast, a blur. Normally your eyes could keep up with it, but while you were low to the ground, you couldn't redirect your body's momentum.

Bonk. Your hit in the face and you stumble back. Roll, roll, thud. "Gghkk.." you pull yourself up to your feet with all of your strength. Your nose is bleeding, your face hurts. Yeah, this was going well.

The knight comes in for the third go. Different stance with his sword out, his shield to the side...

He was still coming, but you could do something. You grip the Zweihander as hard as you can. You maneuver your body backward and then let it go in one, violent swing. "HAAAAH!"

The large weapon spins. It flies forward. Drei bends down to the ground and leaps over the sword. Unknown to him, you were running behind the sword as soon as he leaps. You throw your fist forward, Drei raises his shield. The strength of your punch and the force in which the shield was thrust forward almost equalize.

A loud BANG is heard. You fall toward the ground, landing on your feet. Drei lands back first onto the ground before rolling to get up.

You have first strike now!

You could do this now! You run as fast as you can forwar, in a blur with your gauntlets at the ready. You throw the first punch. Drei dodges to the side. However, you raise your other hand and punch him in the stomach. The armor dents and you contact skin.

"GGHKkk.." Drei winces in pain. He drops his shield, raises his hand and thrust his hand forward. Bam, his fist connects to your stomach. You stumble backward with a wry smile. You bring your hand back. You connect your fist with his stomach again. The knight stumbles back, coughing. The battle was finally turning in your favor.

The shield was now gone, but the sword remained. That was good enough, at least for now. You couldn't pin him on the ground either, but things were heating up!

It was time to end this. Blue energy rises from your body. In an instant, you race forward to meet your opponent in the center of the battlefield. The knights around you were watching. Most rooting for Drei, but some were rooting for the 'underdog', you. Drei himself infuses his body with white energy. Both of you meet in the middle. "HAH!" you raise your fist back. Drei swings his sword down. You move to the side and grab his arm, throwing him over your shoulder to disarm him. The blade flies into the sky and sticks into the ground a couple feet away. Drei looks to it with clenched teeth.

"What's wrong, can't fight without your sword? This is my turf, bring it on!" you get into a boxing stance and smile through your bleeding mouth. Drei smiles, accomadating the challenge. He throws a punch. You dodge to the side, throwing one of your own. You smash Drei in the face. He stumbles back, shaking his head to relieve the shock.

"That all you GOT?" Drei meets you blow for blow.

One punch, two, three. Blood rains upon the ground. Four, five, six more blows.

"HAH!" you yell in synch, getting caught in a cross-counter. "GGhkk.." you stumble back, wiping your lips. "BRING IT ON!" you fire yourself up and move forward with new resolve.

You hit Drei in the face, Drei hits you in the stomach. Another cross-counter. The two of you stumble back, losing energy little by little. You don't have time to think about injuries. With the crowd cheering both Drei and your name, you grin.

"You done already?" through exhausted breathing, you speak up. Drei merely shakes his head as he stands tall. "I'm going to end this right NOW!" you run as fast as you can forward. Your body shimmers with the same blue light from before. In contrast, Drei's radiates with a merky, white light.

You put all of your energy into your right hand, mustering as much 'magic' as you can. Drei does the same with his left hand. You both swing your arms forward to hit each other. The final cross-counter that causes the very foundation of the barracks to shake. Wait, no...

It wasn't a cross counter! You moved your head out of the way at the last second. However, your punch lands against Drei's own face. "Ghkk.." he cringes in pain. Now, for the final follow up! "THIS IS..." you crouch low to the ground, taking advantage of Drei's stunned state. "...IS THE END!" using that same hand infused with energy, you smash it into Drei's lower chin. It explodes in a blue flame and sends the knight captain into the air. He falls in an arc, landing nearby where his sword did when you disarmed him.

"OHHH!" the crowd is in awe at the display of power. You crack your knuckles, making sure your hand is alright. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to discard the gauntlets...oh well.

"The Moonknight Adfor was my instructor but... I haven't seen him in a long time."

"No, it was just some old legend. I forget most of it but, anyway, he was the one who taught me how to use magic and fight. He lives in the Vernegard Forest, in a house beyond the Bast village. Think he loves it out there. Lives with his wife. I even went to visit them last month." Drei leans on the wall. The crowd that formed around you is now gone. It's just you two talking.

Drei nods and places a hand on your shoulder. "Huh... well, Adfor is kind of old fashioned. And he's a coot, but he's a nice guy, just remember that anything he does he does for a reason."

"Got it. I'll be on my way then." after that, the conversation is cut short. With this new information, you move from the barracks back to Cadencia's house. Through a distorted version of her own language, you write a small letter detailing your situation and set it on her desk. Afterward, you set out for Vernegard Forest, past the Bast Village and to Adfor's shack.

You were one step closer to gettin stronger!
