Civilization Game thread soon, fellow villagers!

In our last episode, we found all sorts of cool stuff, and some changes were made to the system. This is also the first time I have an archive of the previous thread! http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/20194842/

Game will start in a few minutes, gotta get myself a drink and a snack, and give it some time for people to get in here, and be ready to decide the fate of our village.

The leaves have begun to change colors.

Our researchers are trying to figure out what copper is, and what to do with it.

Hunters report a scarcity of wildlife for hunting.

Men are currently building a palisade'd farmland for potatoes and onions.

A new apple tree has grown near our village and begun baring fruit. Very mild decrease to food consumption.

We can perform three of the following this month:

A) Send some men to explore (specify location).
B) Send hunters to hunt game, and fishermen to fish.
C) Send some men to gather berries and apples.
D) Send some men to gather wild onions and potatoes.
E) Acquire resources (specify one).

>>
Can You summarized last thread?
>>
>>20209745

This.
>>
>>20209745
A few kids became adults, and a few elderly died.

We found wild potatoes and onions growing in the south, and figured out that A) They are edible, and B) We can grow them.

Researchers figured out how to make jams, jellies, and preserves.

We planted berry bushes in the village, providing a small amount of food every month.

Their was a festival to honor our three deities, and then, their was another festival where everybody showed off how strong/good at things they were.

Also, we found some copper deposits, in the west, but currently lack the tools to excavate it.
>>
We are still low on clay and obsydian?
>>
>>20209745
It's archived you know. Still on the front page of the achrives in sup/tg/.

I'm actually astonished by the way. When we found those copper deposits, it was reddish, not green! It must have been VERY recently exposed by something. Maybe a rainfall washed the topsoil away? No, no, it'd still be green. It's a mystery!

D - AGRICULTURE! RAWR! We have an issue though. Although we don't know it In-Character, you can't keep planting potatos in the same soil, else it'll be totally depleted and useless. Worse, the potatos become suceptable to blight!

K - Send some traders over to the friendly village with some our pots, booze and musical instruments. It never hurts to do some trading. Let's see what they've got! Some more of that insence would be grand.

C - Oh good, the berries and apples are out. Thought it was too early for that. Let's get gathering!

>Captcha - Progress

Captcha knows how it is.
>>
>>20209925
Yes, we are.

By the way, is 4chan running slow for anyone, or just me?
>>
>>20210012
The mystery is that I failed my Knowledge (Geology) roll.
>>
Villagers set out, equipped with crude backpacks, to the north and south of the village to gather fruits and vegetables, respectively.

A small group of soldiers go with the traders to protect them (2 spearmen, 2 archers, an attack wolf). It will take them some time to reach the Friendly Village.
>>
>>20210032
Hah! Fair enough, we all make mistake. Right! Where's the rest of the sorry lot?
>>
D- Fuck yeah potatos!
E- Find some obsydian
K- Sell some pots, instruments and booze.
>>
We drank all the booze during the strength festival. But we do have the jars and flutes.

The traders and guards arrive at the Friendly Village. We have 42 items we can trade. Bartering can be done on a 1-for-1 basis.

The following goods are available:

16 - handfuls of Colorful Feathers
4 - long length of coarse rope, made from hair.
22 - Round, large orange fruit
12 - Obsidian rings
3 - black and white four legged animal (We don't know what these are or what they do yet)
2 - brown haired four legged animal (we don't know what these are or what they do yet)
Additionally, it is possible to trade one of our technologies (or 40 goods) for a technology from the following list:
Crude mining gear, candle making, wooden walkways (for the palisade), cattle (what they are, how to raise them), horses (what they are, how to raise them).

We can currently trade the following technologies:
crude wooden wheels, fruit preservation.
>>
>>20210289
Trade our techs for cattle and horse knowlege, IF that includes where to find them. It's not like chariots will be much good in a forest anyway and besides, this village is our friend.

Then trade 40 goods for Crude Mining Gear (presumably only suitable for surface mining) and two more for a male and female of the black and white things. Pots and instruments for cattle at 1-to-1?! That's the best price you'll ever see anywhere!

Wow, we really need to trade more. How'd they get this far more advanced than us?
>>
>>20210336
A lack of predators and competition. It allows for a lot more time for thinking and doing stuff.

And yes, that is pretty cheap for the animals, but they have a lot. This village has full fledged horse and cattle ranches.

Knowledge does include where these animals are, what kind of environments they prefer, but these areas are currently out of our village's effective gathering range.
>>
>>20210369
Could we possibly set up an outpost that is closer to them?
>>
>>20210393
I will have to put some thought into how to handle that, but, I don't see why not. It'll just take some time for me to work things out. Meanwhile, we're about to enter Fall... by the time we get through the Winter, I should have it all figured out how I want to handle that.

It will take some time for your men to share the information they have, and receive the requested wisdom. They remain in the friendly village as guests of the chief.

The potato/onion farm, and its protective wall, are constructed without incident.

Meanwhile, the color of the trees change, and the days are getting cooler. Fall is upon us.

An event has occurred.

One of the craftsmen of our village comes before the Chief one day, saying that he has been inspired by the Earth Mother to create something that will bring them her attention, and make her look even more favorably upon us.

He says he will need a lot of clay for this undertaking, and requires many men to help him. (This will use up one of our three turns in the next month if we go with it).

How do we respond?
A) Agree,
B) Ask him to make something for one of the other deities,
C) Ask him to do one of all three deities (Will take up all three turns)
D) Deny his request.
D) Other. Please specify.

Our hunters set out. They take a cart with them to help bring back more animals.

Our men set out to gather wild vegetables. They take crude backpacks with them to help them carry more.

Our men work diligently, first to gather the clay, then to shape up. Eventually, an idol to the Earth Mother is sitting in the temple.
>>
>>20210773
C and D - Food gathering time, what with winter getting closer and all! We'd better give the heards some time to recover. We hunt them to extinction, we are FUCKED.

I'd propose building a cowshed, but our craftspeople are busy and the traders aren't back yet.

On another note, keep in mind we needn't fence everything in, people. It's just not practical to do it. Real castles and cities didn't fence all their fields and pastures, after all.
>>
Our hunters were unsuccessful. They only caught enough game to feed the wolves. They report a complete lack of deer.

Our fishermen did fairly well, however.

The men return from the south, loaded down with plenty of wild vegetables.

An opportunity arises.

It occurs to the Shaman, whom shares it with the chief, that we have the opportunity to turn the creation of the Earth Mother Statue into a festival. This would boost morale, and the worship will surely draw the Earth Mother's attention to them.

Do we go through with it, and if so, what offering, if any, do we make to the Earth Mother?
>>
>>20210959
Offer her some vegetables, because they come from the earth

Also, we should probably make idols of the other gods
>>
Offer her our prayers and songs. We alredy building statue for her!
>>
>>20210959
Let's make it a festival. 4/10 morale is terrible (I still think this year's been stupidly short and there's not been enough time to recover from LAST winter. We should have 9 turns between winters and I swear it's only been 5). Offer baskets with the new foods to the Earth Mother and give prayers to Sister Moon and Brother Sun. If we could have got some more of that insence from the other village, that would have been great. Nothing pleases the gods like that stuff.
>>
>>20211005
Thank you! Without them we will be cursed
>>
>>20211027
This is the seventh turn. It just became Fall. We've got two more turns of Fall, then three turns of Winter. Each turn is a month, I've equally divided the seasons into groups of 3 months.

Their is a large celebration in the temple. The villagers offer a frugal amount of vegetables to the Earth Mother, while giving prayers and thanks to Sister Moon and Brother Sun.

Our men have returned from the Friendly Village, bringing with them new wonders!
>>
>>20211032
We've offered the other gods plenty over time. One little bit of neglect won't result in the wrath of heaven being brought crashing down on the heads of our clansfolk.

The newly bought animals are placed in the small pen, which is expanded to accommodate them, with the small white feathered, noisy thing, which we still know little about.

farmers report a bumper crop! Their are many onions, the potatoes are fat, and the berries are plump and particularly juicy. The apples, too, seem to be inordinately large.

Perhaps this is the thanks of the Earth Mother.

With the new technology we have, we can now craft crude mining gear, which will help in harvesting the surface amounts of copper and hematite.

Our soldiers are becoming weaker, and less disciplined, due to a lack of training.

Balls. Well, we can train the soldiers up again during winter.

C - More berries and apples! They make good, healthy eating during winter and the berry liquor will be handing in keeping spirits up (no pun intended)

J - We need a coop and cowshed built before winter. We do NOT need our animals dying in the cold!

E - Have some men (and women) with a small escort take one of the carts out to that copper and mine up as much of it as they can. I'm unsure if learning about Crude Mining Gear came with any start-up tools, or if we'll need to craft them. If it's the latter, consider this action another crafting choice.

Further, I have said this time and again, WE WILL FAIL at trying to work iron, without figuring out easier-to-work metals, like COPPER and bronze first.

Are the fruits we gather automatically preserved? I hope so, otherwise it really wastes an action...

B - Oh gods, I hope we haven't killed off the herds for good. Fishing's good though; it can be smoked to last all winter long.

D - No actual option to gather crops we've grown, so I'll put it here. Good times!

E - Right before winter hits, let's get some copper in. Take the tools and both the carts, along with a small escort. Copper working will put us on TOP, until we get better metals. Also, we can work on mastering it all winter.

Yeah, but how would we test the bastards?

>>20211676
Hey, GM! I call shenanagins! There were two votes to one in favour of skill over discipline! I mean, both are good, but still.

Also, how far are we until figuring out how to properly smelt copper? This'll effect my votes for this turn, so I kinda need to know.
>>
>>20211752
I apologize for the error. I'll boost skill anyway, so as not to punish you guys for my mistake.

As of this month, we know how to smelt copper and shape it into tools and weapons. However, we also don't have enough copper to do anything.
>>
H) Ignore rafts for now, learn ice fishing, so we can get food during winter months.

I'll leave other things for other people to decide
>>
>>20211836
I agree, ice fishing sounds good for now.
>>
>>20211776
What? Oh damn. I sent both carts out, didn't I? Oh wait, I was too slow. Damn my fingers!

G - Train whatever it was we DIDN'T train last month. See? It all evens out in the end.

H - I've had enough of being cooped up in here all though winter. Let's put some research into snow shoes and better cold-weather gear. That way we can actually get some mobility in the colder times.

G - More skill, why not? I get the feeling that, come spring, we'll have to deal with the final part of the Heart Eaters. I doubt we'll get away with a duel this time! We killed their champion and they'll be out for blood! At least that one who tried to leave was swayed to stay. He can give us some info on their way of war, closer to the time.
>>
Our men begin work on finding ways to cut through the ice, so we can try to fish during the winter.

Our warriors train themselves, becoming more skilled at individual combat.

Our warriors train themselves, becoming better at group tactics and remaining calm.

New wolves have been born! Their are five pups. What should we do with them?
A) Train them (specify how many hunters/how many attackers)
B) Kill them
C) Release them into the wild.
D) Other. specify.
>>
>>20211922
A) Train all 5 into attack/guard wolves for protecting the village.
>>
Two attackers three hunters
>>
>>20211922
PUPPIES!

A - Two hunters, two killers, I'd say. We may need them in the spring.

If only they were born later, we could have given them to the friendlies as a gift, or in trade. Ah well. Lemons and lemonaide and all that.
>>
Give me a few moments, folks. Ten to fifteen. An issue away from my computer has come up and needs to be resolved.
>>
>>20211956
I agree with this anon.

Two attack and guard dogs, bringing us up to 11 total there, and the other three into hunting so come spring we'll be able to hunt for more game to replenish our food stocks.
>>
>>20212059
Sounds like a plan. My only concern is that the herds of deer won't have recovered enough by then. Better only start hunting again in fall. And this time, we only take older stags. Leave the young bucks and the does alone

...

I hope OP's okay.
>>
>>20212059
We have 5 attack/guard wolves, not 9. And 4 hunting wolves. I don't really see point in getting more hunting wolves because it seems that there's not enough game as it is.
>>
>>20212094
Your GM reports a successful diplomacy mission with neighbor. Also, a muffin! BEHOLD.

Three attack wolves are trained. Two are trained to hunt.

The snow has stopped. The days are getting longer. Soon, the world will be green again... but not yet.

The muffin of justice! Our GM returns in triumph!

J - We'd better get to crafting! Pots and suchlike always fetch a good price with the friendlies. We want to make sure we have plenty to trade in the spring.

G - Train up some more skill in the warriors. Can't be too careful, after all! Speaking of, I thought we trained those javelin throwers out of existance and made them into archers! Speaking of which...

J - Longbows > shortbows. Let's make sure we have plenty of both them and arrows for our archers and hunters.

No winter festival this year. Don't worry; we'll have the flower viewing as usual in the spring.

Oh and once AGAIN, I'm going to ask, as I NEVER GOT A RESPONSE:

Will out researching new technology and advancing our culture raise the cap on our abilities at all ever? I never got an answer to this and even though it would make sense, I would like it confirmed one way or the bally other!
>>
>>20212275
We trained the dart throwers into archers, not the javelin throwers.

And yes, it will raise the cap. I believe i said as much in the last thread.
>>
So did we learn how to fish during winter?

still being researched

Thank you. Phew. I trawled that thread and honestly could not see any mention of that. Perhaps I missed it.

Our researchers report success in figuring out how to ice fish! Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until the next Winter to actually do that.

Our men continue to diligently train themselves. Each man, on his own, is an absolutely terrifying warrior.

We produce 4 clay jars, and 2 mini Earth Mother statues. We have run out of clay.

Our craftsmen have made many more obsidian tipped arrows. We are now out of obsidian.

Our craftsmen report it will take three cart loads of copper to fully switch over from obsidian tools and weapons to copper. Such an undertaking would take two months.

With only two carts, we can only gather two cart loads of copper a month. (bending realism, I know, but it's for the sake of game balance).

We can perform three of the following this month:

A) Send some men to explore (specify location).
B) Send fishermen to fish.
C) Send some men to gather berries and apples.
D) Send some men to gather wild onions and potatoes.

I - Drink and offer the blackberry liquour to the gods, but especially the Earth Mother. Stuff's had all winter to ferment, so we should be good. I don't care about the rest, we are not missing the spring flower-viewing. We must treasure such a sight while it lasts.

A - Send some scouts north to investigate the signs we spotted before the snows hit. Better we get warning ASAP.

E - Let's get started on the copper! The warriors and their weapons get first priority. Bringing copper into a fight with stone weapons is almost ridiculously unfair. Both carts go out and with a small group of warriors to defend them.

Next turn, we get a forge and start production of weapons! We should probably get some more food then as well, but we'll keep for this turn.

We didn't get around to make any liquor. I don't believe anyone even suggested that.

Men depart the village to gather copper. They take both of the carts with them. They have guards come with them.

Some men depart to the south, hoping to find some wild vegetables. It is early in the season, however.

Trading can not be done without a cart to carry the goods.

Our craftsmen begin working on a cart.

What? Oh bugger! Well, there ceremony can still go on. We have two turns left of spring, so we can make some alcohol next turn and hold the festival at the end of spring. Highly irregular, but that'll have to do. The gods must be honoured, after all. Besides, there's a chance of getting our hands on some insence this way. Perhaps that will make up for our gaffe.

A - Scouts NORTH. Find out what is going on with the hostile clan.

J - Blackberry liqour. Like hell are we letting spring slip by without a proper flower-viewing.

J - Most importantly, start work on a forge and a proper copper-smelter.
>>
HELL yes, actually got my suggestions in first. Now for the explainations:

We need to see exactly what the enemy's movements are. If it's another raiding party, they're a) dumb as a sack of rocks and b) easy(ish) to deal with. If it's the whole damn village, we're going to have issues.

Do I even need to freaking explain about the flower-viewing? Next turn, we'll trade with the friendlies in the hopes of insence and hold the festival at the end of the turn.

We need a forge before we can start properly forging copper tools and weapons. Given how we may soon have to fight again, the warriors will get the first new pieces forged here. Copper speartips and axeheads are absolutely deadly, against an opponent with just stone weapons and leather armour at best. This time, we'll out-class the Heart-Eaters in every area.

Also, if this is the last turn, that's fine. Gives me a chance for some writefaggotry before tomorrow's game. Any march to war needs a rousing speech, after all!
>>
Our craftsmen begin building a dedicated workshop for the smelting of ores and creation of equipment. Our clan prepares to move out of the stone age...

As I live in the EST zone I can hopefully be on. Has anyone mentioned purposefully sending the shaman out to look for better medical herbs?
