You are Smith Sterling, the Iron Master! Using your squad of robot minions, you have successfully raided Scientology's anti-psychiatry museum, announcing your sinister presence to the city at large. Now, you have put into action the first step of your scheme to usurp control of the Santos Espada gang in Eastside, by modifying one of your bots so that it resembles Santa Muerte, a figure of reverence within the Santos Espada, and claim to be an emissary and avatar of her will. Using this in conjunction with your ability to contact the recently dead, you have arranged a meeting with a high-ranking member of one of the sets belonging to the Santos Espada, and convinced him of the Muerte-bot's divine origin.

Your secret hideout/workshop on Catalina Island, however, was discovered by a group of thugs who are most likely working for the Family, specifically the Morelli Outfit, a set of the Family who've been acting up all across Catalina Island lately. They were chasing a man with a pinstripe suit and an assault rifle they called Julio, but fortunately your bots were able to track them down and capture them. They took some damage and one of them was destroyed outright, but no matter, those things are replaceable.

Interrogate these new thugs with our bots.

See about using the santos for petty crime and pushing out our enemies to supplement our income slightly and take the heat off us.

Rebuild the destroyed bot and see about waterproofing and some reinforcements to avoid them being so vulnerable to bullets

I had to drop out pretty early last thread, would you mind providing an archive link so i can read up on what I've missed?

Oh, doi. I'm forgetting all the obvious things today.

Archives here:

>>20131500

What questions do you plan to ask the thugs?

I don't understand exactly what you're asking of the Santos Espada. What sort of petty crimes did you plan on having them commit, and which enemies did you plan on having them oppose? Or did you just want to make sure they were up for it in general? Also, keep in mind you haven't worked your way up to gang leaders, the guy you're talking to is a street-level leader. Which is still pretty high up in a street gang, but he's not the top of the chain of the command.

Concerning making them less vulnerable to bullets and etc., I'm going to be expanding the list of powers available in Machines to include a couple based on upgrading your minions, but you'll need XP to unlock them. The waterproofing is something you can just do with a Technology check, though.
>>
>>20131674
Well mostly I had thought that we would use them to cover our trails for the most part and maybe they could bring offerings to Santa Muerte that we would pass along.

Do the whole nine yards on the thugs. Find out what gang they belong to, power, structure etc then kill them.

As to the Santos espada I was thinking using the street boss to spread the word of the avatar of Santa Muerte to the others and then they come to us to ask to speak to their dead friends.

Maybe we can see about adding a holo projection system to the robot so it can project the image of the person talking and they can see the people they are talking to.

It woud need to be discreet though

Rolling for waterproofing

Separate the thugs and ask them individually about who they are, what they are after and why they are after it.
>>
You boot up the Muerte-bot again, demanding that the leader arrange for a meeting with all the higher-ups in the name of Santa Muerte. He agrees.

The thugs, meanwhile, deprived of their automatic weapons and free use of hands or feet, are doing their best to shout each other to death. "I hope they rip your guts out and shoves 'em down your throats, you bastards," one of them shouts, "serves you right."

"You traitorous fuck, I'll murder you!" one of the others shouts back.

That's when one of your terminators grabs him by the collar and lifts him off his feet. "Who do you work for?" you ask through the mic, your voice modulated as always.

"I ain't tellin' you nothin', tin can," the thug says back.
>>
>>20132103

The roll for things like waterproofing is 2d6+whatever skill it is (in this case Technology, which is 5, unless something is messing with your AI buddy for some reason, in which case it's 4). I usually roll the unimportant ones myself rather than slow things down asking for a roll, though. It doesn't make a huge difference if it takes you an extra day or two to get the waterproofing right.
>>

If they don't spill their guts, we do it for them.
If they do we give them the gift of a swift death.
>>
>>20132199

Your bot slices open the defiant thug's stomach with a knife, and then drags his intestines out. The other thugs mask their horror with varying degrees of success as they watch him bleed out on the ground.

What are you doing with the Muerte-bot, now? Time to call it back, or do you need to tell the Santos Espada something else?
>>
>>20132372
Get it out. But maybe we should leave them with a way to contact us when their leaders can gather?
>>
>>20132497

You have an untraceable cell that you use for Iron Master stuff, but there's a couple of people in the industry who know it's linked to the Iron Master, even though none of them could connect it back to Smith Sterling. You want to give them that?
>>
>>20132513
Why not just have the gangers to bring the bot with them? have them bring it to a hideout and guard it.

"All I require is a quiet dark place to commune with the spirits. You will provide me this place, for it is Muerte's Will."
>>
>>20132513
Better not.

It gives us benifits and dangers
The prolonged contact with it means that we learn more about them. He's not too high up on the chain, meaning his hideout could come under attack by police or mob elements. If the Muerte-bot is damaged, his technological disguise is useless. We have to let them know that Muerte will only let them speak with spirits not yet passed on to the other side as well.
>>
And dont we still have to capture Julio?
He'll be more willing to give us info for saving his life. Plus it gives us a possible ear to the Family.

Unfortunately you didn't make any bugs in advance, but it will be trivially easy to do so. A gadgets villain like yourself won't even have to roll for it if you're operating out of your workshop. In fact, you could throw one together by remotely operating your terminators (precision work with them gets frustrating fast, but this operation is so quick and routine you can muscle through it if you have to), so you could have the Muerte-bot raid a hardware store itself for the supplies and make them on the spot. Of course, then the Muerte-bot would have to break into a hardware store, and if word about that got out (and it is pretty hard to miss), that might hurt your chances of fooling the Santos Espada. Or not. Santa Muerte is basically the patron saint of criminals, so it might not be seen as too out of character for her avatar to rob a place.
>>
>>20133137
Not that big of a deal for now, but we should kit out our 'bots in the future, including bugs. Good to know.

Are they just using a blade to attack right now?
>>
>>20133137
matter of factly, probably wouldnt be hard to convince them that we can utilize technology as an avatar too.

While the other thugs don't have any ID on them, Julio does, which kind of implies he was the only one who didn't know he'd be committing a felony tonight. The wallet identifies him as Julio Pedone, age 39. Photo and physical attributes on the ID match the guy you've caught, so it's either real or a good fake.

Julio looks a bit reluctant to answer the question, but after a second or two of mulling it over, he says "yeah, alright. It's a bit of a story, but...I been with the Family for twenty-five years. The Family always used to respect someone smart enough to stay in the business that long, but not anymore. They figure, they don't think I'm leadership material and I'm gettin' too old to run and fight like the other guys, so they look for some way to get rid of me, and finally they find one. I mess up some trade with the Goblin Gang, have to drop some drugs. It's no big deal, first operation I messed up in years, it happens, y'know? But it's the excuse they were looking for, so they send me down here to the Morelli Outfit. That's where they send you when they think the concrete shoes would be too slow. So I started branchin' out, thought I'd jump ship. Started talkin' to Chimera, and they caught wind of it and sent these boys after me. Understand me, here, I don't jump ship for just anything. The Family fucked me over first."
>>
>>20133220

They're actually just using their fists, since they have awesome robot fists. The Family thugs had knives as last-ditch close combat weapons which I never mentioned because they didn't get much chance to use them, and cutting the guy open happened with one of those. Your terminators can start using the guns you pulled off the thugs, though, so that gives you two pistols, two SMGs, and an AK-47.
>>
>>20133265
Chimera is unlikely to help you know, too busy trying to find the moles or informents who let slip about you.

You're a smaaaall fish in a big pond Mister Pedone, but you've got something the other guppys dont have in spades. Experience. It may have been fate, dumb luck, or forsight of your own to flee to these tunnels this evening, and now you have a choice. Swear Fealty to The Iron Master."

Refusal means death, cant let our secret hideout location get out afterall, not that we'd tell him that.
>>
>>20133265
>>20133293

I think it would work better if we never used the first person pronouns, especially when talking through bots. Keep us more mysterious, y'know?

"Julio, my boss don't need street thugs. The robots are better than any kid in a fight and are more reliable feet on the pavement. But he does need experienced... coordinators at the moment. His, er, CPU cycles are limited.

So you have a choice. You can work for the IRON MASTER, or you can rot in this room. He can't be letting the word get out, understand? But besides, it sounds like you're on the job hunt already. And my boss can definitely give you good work."

Extend the AK to him as a sign of goodwill.
>>
>>20133357

"Sounds like a deal to me," Julio says, "I'm more than happy to work for someone who still knows the value of loyalty and experience. Criminals in this town used to have class." He seems a little bit nostalgic and bitter when he says the last bit.

Play the jingle, because Julio has become your henchman!

Heh, wonderful.

You have retrieved your Muerte-bot after arranging to have another meeting with the gang leaders in general at the same location next week. Julio has joined your party, and the other thugs have been done away with. Another successful night for the Iron Master!

Tomorrow's a Monday. That means you have work, keeping up your secret identity as an engineer employed by one of the companies that operate out of Long Beach. Fortunately, your exceptional technical ability means that no one really minds when you punch out at 5 to "head out into the San Fernando Valley for some fresh(er) air."

When you arrive in Avalon and start heading towards your hideout to waterproof your bots and get some bugs on them, you notice that the streets seem nearly empty. Because of that bombing, no doubt (granted, it's also Monday in a tourist town)...Damn, the Morelli Outfit's going to make it much harder to go unnoticed while walking through Avalon. It's not all that unusual for someone to spend time at Catalina in their off days, but being known for coming here is one more unnecessary link between Smith Sterling and the Iron Master, especially if someone ever discovers the location of the hideout.
>>
Plus, being one of the only ones out here means that the Avalon Goblins are much, much more likely to mug you, specifically. Which they do. You look up and notice you've got one guy in a scream mask in front of you, and some other tough in a devil mask behind. "Hey, why don't you take a quick walk with us down here?" the ganger in the scream mask says.

What irony, you, THE IRON MASTER, being mugged by common criminals...And regrettably, you don't have any gadgets on you to help fend them off. You could summon your terminators to your aid, as they're still back in your lair. They're already banged up and thinned out from last night, and it will take them a while to get here. On the other hand, these goons would surely be no match for them.

>Wat do?
>Also, are you going to assign Julio to do anything?
>And should Julio change his look to reflect his new employment, or adopt a new alias?
>>
>>20133786
We could use Julio and 'the robot mafia' to organize false flag attacks on the Goblins.

Just take out your wallet, remove your license and health insurance card, and toss it to them. "Dont much feel like getting my ass beaten today, sorry."

Oh, and we can do the same, Robots in Halloween masks, so its not like either side can deny their own actions very well or want to.
>>
>>20133930

The ganger in the scream mask catches the wallet and shrugs, then starts walking past. As he steps past you, he suddenly grabs you by the arm. You tense up a bit, unprepared to respond to any sort of in-person fight. "Good choice, small fry," the ganger says, chuckling a bit at your expression, and then he and his companion walk off. Slightly irate, you head back to your hideout.

It doesn't take long to repair and waterproof the bots once you get back to your hideout. While you're kitting them out, is there anything you'd like to equip them with besides the looted guns and your freshly-made bugs?
>>
sensors for EVERYTHING we can stuff in them considering pschics and magic exists also boost their hacking defenses its gonna suck balls if tech hero or villian uses our own shit against us.
>>
You add in some rudimentary detectors for ghosts, psionics, magic, etc. etc. You'll be able to spot anyone using just about any variety of supernatural power, but you won't be able to detect them until after they've already started using the power. That does mean no one will be able to psych you without your knowing, though.

You make a few modifications to your bots to make them look like Family thugs. You dress them up in trenchcoats and wide hats with the brims pulled low. You haven't yet had time to make them look properly human, but under the dark of night it should be close enough.

Julio doesn't know the details of the Goblins' operations, of course, but he does know crime. Over the next few days, while you're dolling up the bots to look human-ish, he puts out a few feelers out in Avalon. He isn't able to get any explicit information, but he doesn't need it. There's only so many places you can do crime in a town this small, after all, and it's not long before he's found all of them, and figured out where the Goblins' probably have their hideouts on top of it.

Indeed, as your bots drop into the vacant house, secret room in a bar, and little-used building of no apparent purpose whatsoever off a trail ten minutes' walk outside of town, each of them can see a few Goblins hanging about. Outnumbered, they spray bullets blindly at the Goblins and then retreat immediately, escaping unscathed before the Goblins can gather their wits to pursue.

That ought to send a message.
>>
Also, I apologize for taking so long to respond. I grabbed lunch, probably should've mentioned I'd be out for 20 minutes.

That pic is from the w40k comic about the homicidal crusader in the underhive right? Do you by any chance remember what it was called?

Also supporting the robot mafia idea, pinstripe suits, fedoras and tommyguns galore!
I further propose we use these robot mafia terminators to stage false flag assassinations on the goblin leadership. Hopefully making their neighbors use this opportunity to attack goblin territory, letting the Santos use this chance to attack one (or more) of the rival gangs while they are preoccupied with the goblins.

Pic related.
>>
>>20134814

Worth noting that the Avalon Goblins and the Morelli Outfit are both on Catalina Island, which does not appear on that map (though you can see the very tip of it at the very bottom). Though if you want to take revenge by destroying the entire gang, you certainly can.
>>
>>20134635
Good, now we have to flop in the other direction.
Make more, or alter current, terminators to attack Family assets, which Julio would know more about, with Goblin tactics.
>>

>>20134814
Also interrogate all the goblin ghosts we can get a hold off, we want all the intel we can get.
>>
>>20134903
This is not about revenge, although that is nice.
It's my impression that we want to subvert the santos to our cause which means we should work on weakening the other gangs. By turning the other gangs on the goblins we weaken several of the rival gangs while reducing the pressure/giving the santos an opportunity to expand.
>>
You summon up some Goblin ghosts and tell them you want information on the Family to help you get rid of the Morelli Outfit. You leave out the part where you were actually responsible for their deaths. They're able to tell you that the Avalon Goblins are already planning a retaliation against the Morelli Outfit, as well as what their targets are. Some Mafia front businesses over in Two Harbors. Apparently the Family controls every business in that town. All three of them.

Avalon Goblin morale is flagging after the random attacks, though, and the set is on the verge of total collapse. Apparently the only person holding it together is Rica Rivera. One of the Goblin ghosts seems to know something about her, but he won't open up about it.
>>
Real life is happening a bit right now. Will try to keep updated but I might have a delayed response for the next little while.
>>
>>20135545
Talk them into giving it up, Say you'll give them a day of life back.

What? He doesnt know we can do that, he's a thug and we have a machine that lets us talk to him.
>>
>>20135822

You're successfully able to talk the Goblin ghost into revealing his secret with your ploy. He admits that he and some of the others were planning on making peace with the Family by handing Rica over to them. She's the one who killed the two Family thugs and started the war in the first place (claiming they mugged her on Goblin turf, but the only witnesses are dead now, so who knows).
>>
Oh, and obvious follow-up I should have thought of immediately: Julio is able to produce photographs of the Family thugs Rica killed, which you use to summon them up. They being dead and thus unaware that he's left the Family, you have Julio ask them about the circumstances of their deaths, and they confirm that yes, they were trying to mug her in Avalon as a way to put the Goblins in their place. They didn't really think one girl in a goblin mask would be able to take them both. They're kind of embarrassed about it.
>>
The goblins cant flounder now, they need something to give them their piss and vinegar back. So ready the false flag attacks on one or two Very Important Family assets that they wouldn't think the Goblin's would know about.

Julio?
>>
>>20136335

You looking for assets to do with the Morelli Outfit on Catalina Island specifically, or are you also looking for info on the mainland? Julio's mainland info will be a bit dated, and also everything on the mainland is harder (I'm using Catalina as newbie island, basically).
