Once more into the cogitator!
>>
File: 1343778763707.jpg-(147 KB, 500x400, 1339914430944.jpg)

You are Elesh Phryx, rogue techpriest and leader of a rag-tag group of pirates. From the Sword-class frigate 'Sword of the Omnissiah', you lead your band of misfits as construction of a new station to call 'Home' begins. Speaking of which, you really should give some thought to a proper name for this system. Later, though. At the moment, your friend Athe sits alone with her knees to her chest and her head held low as the lonely planet of your hidden system slowly spins in the observation window before her. Strangely, your digestive tract seems to disagree slightly with your earlier breakfast. Yes, that must be it. Such a sensation has nothing to do with finding Athe here instead of in your bunk this morning. Bad flesh brain, cease undermining the logic of your superior cogitators.

As you stand quietly in the doorway, your XO inhales sharply, prompting a stream of data to pour from your medicae mechadendrite.
[Detecting signs of minor respiratory distress and muscle tremors in subject. Possible early signs of minor illness. Suggest subject increase fluid intake and be taken to medicae deck for full examination.]

>orders?
>Forward to Athe!
>Did she skip breakfast? Clearly she needs breakfast!
>other!
>>
Bring her breakfast and supervise her consumption of it.

That way we'll maintain her efficiency as an organic crew member (that'll make our cogitators happy) and get to show that we care for her (which should satisfy our flesh brain).

We should probably also voice our distress about waking up along, but I doubt our cogitators will allow that.
>>
>>20121353

so you want to return with breakfast? or would you like to relocate her to the mess and have her eat there? (you may easily clear the mess of any prying eyes)
>>
>>20121383
Let our cogitators work out the perfect breakfast based on her past choices of food and the most nutritious items.

Then bring it to her and ensure it is fully consumed so she remains at maximum efficiency.
>>
>>20121383
Clearing the mess of any prying eyes would be inefficient and there's probably a reason why Athe chose this location.

Return with breakfast. Tell the servoskull to inform Athe to remain at this location, in case she attempts to leave while we're away.
>>
>>20121353
This, also it is now the Athe Dominus sector :3
>>
>>20121383
Also, interlace our fingers with hers at some point. To check her vital signs, of course.
>>
Calories. No, comfort. Even your cogitators recognize the content, comforting feeling of a belly filled with digesting caloric intake. Leaving your servo skull to guard the door, you make your way to the officer's mess and order the cook to prepare a meal for Athe. As the crewman vanishes to retrieve a final stash of fruit, you quietly recall Kelly mentioning two small stasis containers being payment by a refugee...

>Stasis containers of 'Strawberries' and 'luxury chocolates' available!
>Break the stasis seals and add some to the food for Athe?
>Leave them pristine, they are valuable trade goods!
>>
>>20121609
Add some of the strawberries, keep the chocolates in stasis. Be sure to extract some of the seeds, so we can grow them on the fertile planet in this system.

If strawberries remain after preparing the food for Athe, add them to our other named character's dinner. They can probably use the morale boost as well.
>>
>>20121609
Save strawbs and chocolate for a nice desert this evening. Not a breakfast food. End of day suprise
>>
>>20121609
>strawberries
Didn't we accidentally erase our memory of what strawberries taste like? We should probably nibble on a few to satisfy our inevitable curiosity about this mysterious fruit.

Also, bringing a bowl of berries to share with Athe would be a good excuse to disturb her mopey contemplation.
>>
>>20121648
Tech-priest Captain Elesh Phryx, "For I Have not Tasted the Fruit"
>>
>>20121648
both containers hold roughly the same volume as a standard cooler (that 1 person can carry)
>>
>>20121714
I must protest. Strawberries are always best at breakfast, preferably served along with a 3-to-1 mix of champagne and fresh squeezed orange juice.

Though I doubt we have either of those at our disposal at the moment.
>>
>>20121751
Well, in that case set up some lottery or whatever idea our officers come up with to use the remaining fruits to increase crew morale.
>>
>>20121759
Strawberries, yes, but not chocolate. The combination is revered by our anestors as most pleasing to the female type (and the male, and anyone else with a mouth. Probs why Tyranids came)
>>
Profit is always on the mind of a pirate. Fortunately, you are a privateer. Profit is expendable at times. Especially when your lo- frie-... Athe's mood might be improved for a minor sacrifice of profit. You'll keep the chocolates sealed for now, though. No need to be too eager to sacrifice profit. Soon enough you've added a dozen of the strange fruits to the growing collection of food for Athe, instructing the crewman to return the resealed container to its proper storage location.

Athe hasn't moved since you left her, though her face is now pressed against her arms as her body is wracked by occasional abdominal spasms.
[Respiratory distress detected! Possible Diaphragm irritation. Possible signs of suicidal mental state! Mental evaluation suggested!]

>orders?
>what say?
>>
>>20121991
Say nothing for now. Just get close to Athe, place our head on her shoulder and begin to gently pat her back.
>>
>>20122017
But in a freindly, non condescending way. if Suicidal depression is diagnosis, have servo skull go grab some Anti depressants
>>
>>20122017
Seconding.

Just come over and sit down beside her and give her a hug.
>>
>privateer quest is back
Fuck yes. Got here before it ended for once.

>>20121991
Go over and check on Athe. A simply "What's wrong?" would probably be good. Preferably said in a way that doesn't suggest we've been lurking in the doorway spying on her for a while.
>>
>>20121991
Approach in a slow manner. Ensure the breakfast tray is held at an optimum angle so that if we were to fall over or be struck by a fist and/or feet the strawberries would not be wasted.

Words. You're not very good with them, really. Even your flesh brain wishes to laugh at some of the words your cogitators muse over, soon joined by the majority of your cogitators as well. With little resistance, your flesh brain seizes control and you move toward Athe. Your XO seems to sense your approach, her body growing tense as you near. Carefully placing the heavy tray of food upon the nearby bench, you lower yourself beside Athe and silently wrap your flesh arm around her shoulder.

In mere moments Athe's face is pressed against your neck, her body twisting to press against your own as moisture begins to bead down your neck. In time her sobbing slows, your flesh hand gently stroking her back. For several thousand cycles there is only the sound of Athe's quiet breathing, her breath hot upon your neck as she clings against your body as if something were trying to tear her from your grasp.

Her lips against that sensitive nook of your neck, lingering as you enjoy the familiar sensation. Higher, the side of your neck, then the lobe of your ear. Her cheek against your own. "Elesh... Thank you."

Food to sustain her body, Elesh's presence to sustain her mind.

"Upon discovering your abscence this morning, my cogitators diagnosed a possible illness. My stomach felt a painful sensation, and I did not feel well.

My cogitators recommend the two of us should get checked for possible diseases. However, my flesh brain is strangely quiet."
>>
>>20122514
Place the food nearby and continue the hugging, pick up a strawberry with a mechadendrite and gently hover it near her mouth.
>>
>>20123074
That's sounds adorable as fuck.

I keep forgetting that we have extra limbs.
>>

>>
"I was concerned by your absence when I awoke. Have you eaten?" Your mechadendrites retrieve the bowl containing the small selection of fruits available, ignoring the grox meat that has long since cooled.

"I... no." Your friend distances her upper body from your own, her green eyes accented by red. One of the red, seeded fruits is quickly presented to her mouth, held firmly by the vibrant green leaves in your mechadendrite's manipulators. A soft hum as she bites into the fruit, her cheeks slowly growing flushed as you watch her eat.

"You're weird, you know that? Watching me eat."

"Your caloric intake is importa-"

"Shhhh," Athe smiles as she presses a berry against your own lips, "At least let me feed you too, Elesh. My lost little techpriest."

Strange, the fruit is tasteless. The texture is strangely luxurious, though. You quite like that. "Perhaps we should attempt to grow these upon the planet."

Athe simply nods, shifting to lean against you as she finishes the last of your offerings to her belly. "It looks nice, too."

Long after the fruit vanishes, Athe finally shatters the serenity of the slowly rotating planet.

"I knew them all, the sisters aboard Aegis Squadron. Five-hundred and twenty of them. More will die, its a war. More always die, its unavoidable. But hunting down a trader dynasty?" Athe pauses, swallowing nervously. "We might lose. I might- I might lose you."

>allow Athe to continue?
>>
>>20123187
Of course. Interlace fingers, but let her continue.
>>
>>20123187
Nonsense, Athe. We will prepare ourselves as we have done before, perhaps call upon allies. Do not worry yourself.

Have you any suggestions for the name of this system?
>>
>>20123187
>allow Athe to continue?
Well, it wouldn't be very polite to interrupt her.

Just listen, and maybe make some little gesture of affection like >>20123233 suggests, if our flesh brain can manage it.
>>

"Don't be silly, Athe. You won't lose me. Not to be morbid, but we're on the same ship; we'll share whatever fate awaits us whether that be good or ill."

I like it, but perhaps Athenia Solarum would be more fitting.

It would seem use a nickname for the star charts.
>>
Your fingers deftly interlace with Athe's, your cogitators quickly noting a healthy rate and strength to her pulse. Your friend's words pause, her eyes searching your own for something as her lower lip is pulled slightly inward. "What is this, Elesh? Us. Just... I want to hear it from you."

>I rolled 3 sets of dice to try to avoid this one for you. It didn't work.

>RESPONSE?
>>
>>20123614
"I'm not good at emotions. If I were better, I could express. I would wish to assist you in all ways possible, as we are mutually compatible. Also, I'm naming this system Athenia Solarus, what do you think?"
>>
>>20123653
A combination of >>20123614 and "It can be whatever you want it to be, Athe."
>>
>>20123614
"You are an efficient officer and combatant. Furthermore, your physical condition is very good to excellent, and your mental state is below average but improving. If we were to work together more closely, sharing our quarters permanently, for example, both of us would benefit from an increase in our psychological and physical performances.

You are the only person I consider compatible enough at this time to entering a working relation with.

Beginning a long-term project to improve each other seems to be the best course of action to me."

You stare at Athe for what feels like ages, your face slowly contorting into a confused look as your flesh brain and cogitators battle for control of your voice. "I'm not... emotion, nuances... excellent physical condition, you - Care, I... compatible. Quarters... proposal- express, could."

Athe's expression hardens as your flesh brain and cogitators fumble for words. Her eyes narrow as her jaw tightens, then relaxes. Concern? Anger? It seems Athe doesn't know what to make of your response.

Finally, your brains cease their battle. "Hi..."

Athe tumbles backward as her laughter reverberates loudly down the nearby passages, her eyes fixated upon the confused look that overcomes your features. Eventually she grows quiet, her chest heaving as she struggles to regain her breath. "You do that on purpose, don't you?" A smile has consumed your friend's face as she looks up at you with... familiarity? No, perhaps fondness. Yes, Fondness. "I needed that."

You simply smile, content that your inner conflict has produced a healthy result and failing to immediately notice limbs pulling you toward your supine XO.

"And now I want this."

Moments before the cold grox steak and other foods are roughly scattered across the floor, Athe's assault pauses. "I love you, Elesh."

Timeskip, Ho!

We'll be time skipping to the point where your space station's repair facilities are functional and 'Sword of the Omnissiah' completes her repairs.

Expected time: 6 Months

Will Elesh assist with station construction and ship repairs or will she spend the time doing other things?
>Assist, time is profit
>We have better things to do! [specify! Craft bionics? Learn to pilot? Troll crew? Purge nutrient paste with fire?]

And for future reference, expect crazy results from -everyone- crit failing fellowship rolls
>>
>>20124550
I'd vote to spending some of our time helping with and overseeing station building and repairs, and splitting the rest of our time between trying to find the courage to actually propose to Athe, overseeing colony setup on the planet below and the planting of strawberries, and maybe learning to pilot one of those fighters; never know when we might need to make a fast escape or some shit, it's a useful skill.
>>
>>20124550
>craft bionics
That sounds like a good plan. I mean, even Advi has been teasing us about how organic we still are.

Perhaps mechanical eyes, or a fourth mechadendrite. Of course, as always, aesthetic perfection is a must for any bionics we implant ourselves with.
>>
>>20124550
We have a huge crew of people to build the station and repair the ship for us. We should limit our personal involvement to occasional inspections to be sure the workmanship is up to standard.

Our efforts would be better devoted to special projects like building bionics (we still need to finish installing gadgets in our bionic arm) and romancing our second in command.

tasks by months, please. [1/2/3/4/5/6/overtime]

on average, it will take a month to craft a Good Quality bionic.

Most other tasks will take a month's time as well, unless its something very quick and needing no oversight/supply management.

Assisting with construction/repairs can only speed things.
>>
>>20124742
Month 1: Oversee Construction and Ground (Space?) Breaking ceremony for space station.

Month 2: Oversee colony construction

Month 3: Work up courage for Athe marriage and poly-amorous proposal.

Month 4-6: Bionics and mechandrite construction.
>>
>>20124742
I would request as much time as needed for outfitting our bionic arm's utility slots. Perhaps a laspistol concealed in the forearm, unless anyone objects.
>>
>>20124788

Month 3's task is not suitable for a timeskip
>>
>>20124849
Put it towards learning to pilot small craft then?

Current arm utilities:
Custom Power Blade (Long Knife)
Multi-tool manipulators
Implanted/Concealed laspistol [you guys never agreed if you wanted it mounted or just hidden in the arm...]
[1 free utility space]

All utilities in the arm are concealed and require a difficult check to locate unless they're previously known.
>>
>>20124891
Ah, I didn't realize we'd already put stuff in the arm. Disregard my earlier suggestion then.

Perhaps we could experiment with building a servitor? Surely there's at least one person on the ship nobody would miss.

1st month: Supervise the construction of our station. Just to make sure everybody does the job they're trusted with well.

2nd month: Begin planting strawberries.

3rd month: See if we have an idea for any fancy bionics. If not, oversee the construction process of the station again.

4th month: Get medicae lessons from the doctor.

5th month: Learn how to pilot small craft / sparring with Julin.

6th month: See if the process on the station is going well.

Come to think of it, sparring with the officers should be something we do regularly. It will increase their combat skills, ours as well, and we get to see them in close-fitting gym clothes.

Currently, Elesh is capable of crafting nearly any bionic limbs or organs up to Good Quality. (organs will be more difficult due to lack of practical experience)

If you like, you may attempt to build replacement parts for your 'starter' bionics (cyber mantle and potentia coil). Both are currently Average Quality, though the reinforcements to your spinal column are of Good Quality due to difficulty of replacing such things. The cyber mantle could also be made to fit into your "Natural" design philosophy, blending a new one into your form instead of the slightly bulky one you currently sport.

You may also simply spend a month crafting 'mass production' bionics for practical experience and possible use in future servitors or wounded NPCs. (NPCs may also receive personalized bionics, if you wish to spend the time)

The next months are a blur of activity as the skeletal form of your station slowly begins to fill the void between the trio of your ships. Your personal attention helps speed the formation of the massive adamantium matrix, straining the abilities of the crews assigned to manage the flow of pre-fabricated structures. With slight regret you leave the familiar setting of red-hot metallic sprays and the penetrating scents of industrial activity, focusing your attentions toward the establishment of a small farming colony upon the fertile planet's surface. Nearly a hundred slaves with varying amounts of agricultural experience quickly accept your offer to become colonists upon the planet, though the lack of available resources for any sort of structures forces them to reside upon 'Zephyr Spirit' and utilize the HL shuttle to maintain their operation.

Dess is shocked as you master basic shuttle piloting in days, preforming your first orbital reentry within sixty hours. Julin and Athe are both more difficult teachers, often leaving your flesh bruised by vicious bouts of melee training as they correct your self-taught skills and mercilessly break you of deadly habits. More often than not, you find Athe supporting you to your now-shared quarters and assisting your exhausted body toward a mercifully soft bunk. The month of studies with Doctor Noble is much kinder upon your body, though the quirky man is often more interested in musing upon the forces of good and evil than ensuring your knowledge is properly advanced.

The final months are more relaxing as you churn out various bionic limbs and organs at your own pace and later spending increasing amounts of time testing prototypes or personal theories for improved function or form.

Days before repairs are completed upon 'Sword of the Omnissiah', you find yourself gazing out a familiar observation window at the functional but incomplete station that holds your ship in a nurturing embrace. As a massive adamantium plate glides across your view, your mind ponders what you'll eat first after months of nutrient paste. Omnissiah, you hate nutrient paste. Perhaps Labado will have something suitable for such a wondrous occasion.

"Elesh!" quick, heavy footsteps chase the echo of Athe's voice toward your location. "Elesh! She's in labor!"

In a blur, you meet a panting Athe at the doorway and share a smile. Together, you hurry toward the medicae deck in search of the first child born upon 'Sword of the Omnissiah' and in this system for millennia.

The shrill wail of the newborn fades as the new mother cradles the bundle of cloth and flesh against her chest, smiling with pride and joy. The father is absent, slain during the escape from Tortuga. "Captain Phryx... would you be so kind as to honor [it] with a name?"

NAME BABY: Castella
>>
>>20131635
I thought about naming the baby in honor of Magos Banks, so either Philipinna, Philippa, or Philippine.

But Castella is neat as well.
>>
>>20131635
I approve. Let's go with this.
>>
>>20131536

"Castella. It is a good name for any path one chooses."

The crew woman looks to her daughter, a finger gently giving the babe's small nose a poke. "Castella, your father would have loved your name. Thank you, Captain."

Moments later the gathered crowd is scattered by an excited Doctor Noble. "Out with you lot! The mother needs her rest and you're all too filthy to be around a newborn! Off with you, shoo!" The man smiles as he runs you off personally with a tiny blue flashlight. "I know what you're thinking, you devilish Captain! Away until the child is older!"

"He's right, Elesh. The child must grow before you can augment her." laughs Athe.

>Will you seek to return to known systems or go exploring?

>each 'grid' between points is 1d5 days of travel
>the lovely thing between Serentus and your system is currently is a suspected warp current, flowing FROM Serentus TOWARD your system.
>travel time WITH current is reduced to 1d3 days per grid square, going AGAINST increases time to 1d8 days per square

Reparations and Reclamation, respectively.

I suppose drifting with the current would be a poor idea, especially given our lack of materials. Time to go back to known space, I guess.
>>

Is the 'Remnants of Justi' system dangerous?
>>
EXPLORE and or get more equipment to help with the space station.
>>
Ok guys, I have good news and bad news.
The good news is, Machine Spirit just mentioned in chat that the Blood Ravens were permanently crippled by backstory stuff (along with most of the space marines, but hey, fuck them, especially Ultramarines & co, who are basically extinct).
The bad news is, the surviving Blood Ravens probably need a lot of hardware to keep fighting. Like, a LOT of hardware. Keep your eyes peeled.
>>
>>20132982
Fuck! BOLT DOWN EVERYTHING!
(At least the repressed marine homolust won't affect our amazon har.. crew.)
>>
Unfortunately, I've been called to work for a few hours. Not sure if I'll be able to continue tonight or if I'll have to call it until tomorrow or TUESDAY @ 7-8:00 PM EST.

>>20132780
According to information gathered by Advi before she traveled to your hidden system, Justi's star went super nova and the system was destroyed. No reports of the aftermath were available at the time.

>>20132982
>>20133006

I can confirm that Blood Ravens are not known to be operating anywhere NEAR the Corgus Sector, nor are any Chapters.

to clarify what >>20132982 said the ultramarine decided "we're
the empirium not you" and with their decendant chapter tried
to take control of the empirium, long story short marcage got
virus bombed and the lamenters are now the biggest chapter
soooo yah no more ultraz and girliman's dead
>>
>>20133162
Ouch, what happened to the black templars?

>>20133152
Thanks, what about Celentis?
>>

>I can confirm that Blood Ravens are not known to be operating anywhere NEAR the Corgus Sector, nor are any Chapters.
Well shit, they've already been "gifted" the element of surprise. By the GM, no less.
>>
>>20133062
No clue how she managed to get S22.
>>
>>20133197
still around I believe but helped beat down the ultra blockade at terra, like most chapter they are now below company strength if you wonder how this they are canonly a SM LEGION weeeell, about 70% of the sm chapter were ultra descendant in that they were following the codex so that A lot of marines even if not all became heretics
>>
>>20134044
of course all I said is to be taken with a grain of salt as it is what -I- understood from the chat
>>
Waitwaitwait, so we're in an alt universe now where most of the marines are dead? Damn, that means the burden on the IG is even heavier.
>>
>>20135169
no we are about 4k in THE FUT~URE
>>
>>20136593
Oh my. How'd THAT happen?
>>
>>20136945
I guess we never asked what year/date it was.
>>
>>20136955
Yeah but you think Advi woulda said "Oh hey btw it's been 4k years" if she was even still alive.
>>
I'm lurking and willing to answer questions, but a bit burned out to run the quest any further tonight.

PQ takes place roughly 4,000 years -after- the official timeline of 40k.

In PQ's timeline, The 'Ultra Heresy' took place roughly 2-3k years BEFORE the events of PQ.

How many people have gone insane over the last months because they had nothing to eat except nutrient paste?
How many starved themselves to death?
>>
>>20137138

None have gone mad or starved themselves.

The crews are weary of nutrient paste in general, though.
>>
>>20137153
I'm actually a bit surprised by that. But all the better.
>>
>>20137105
Ohhh. That would have been nice to know earlier, but still cool. Care to share how the Imperium has changed with the loss of the majority of their supersoldiers?
>>
rolled 3 = 3

>>20137153
Did we farm enough strawberries from our agriculture operation to supplement the rations with a few pieces of the fruit?
