During the war of the dakka the tau were falling back and at one point abandoning a small colony on a satellite world. The Orks overran the colony where the earth caste members were lodged. Her parents lost in the confusion of the evacuation, a young Tau girl was left alone in her habitation block.

The Orks ignored her, looking for a proper fight, but some snotlings and gretchin eager to prove that they were big and tough orks decided to gang up on her.

She then proceeded to pick up a tau spanner and kick, punch and wallop her way into a corner, fighting off all the snotlings and gretchin in her way. When a mek came (to kick all the snotlings upside the head) he saw the young tau girl. Mistaking it for a blue grot, and noticing it already had a wrench, he picked her up and told her to get back to work.

Thanks to her earth caste upbringing she had a rudimentary knowledge of machines and mechanics, and her ability to help the Meks inventions work made her a utility to the Orks (although really the Mek just thought that she was a lucky charm due to her blueness).

Now the Ork Mek keeps her close and acts to protect her (at least telling other Orks to shove off), while she herself has an added ability to kick some of the smaller orks/grots upside the head if they do cause her trouble.

Her ability to add dakka is also a boon to the orks and "Da Blue Grot" has become somewhat of an endearing name for her.

The warboss stoops down and embraces the snivvelling Tau with his remaining biological arm while unhooking something from the wall with the mechanical one. A gargantuan green paw rests on her tiny shoulder and roughly dries off a tear with the flick of a calloused digit.

because manliness is essentially incompatible with cuteness. The cuter you are, the least manly you are.

Therefore, making her female does not only make her optimally cute, it also avoids thematic contradiction: a male tau growing amongst ork can only die or become badass. But cute is just weird.

>>
>>20114784
There is a Warhammer printed comic where an Ork nob takes a human as a lucky charm because he was covered in green goop and he thought it was a tall grot.

a Tau is more useful and easily more worthy as a lucky charm.

And remember, things are Orky if the boss says they are. As much as alot of big bad Warbosses say, they would all have had their favorite grot of squig sometime!
>>
So, given everything we know about her, how would she work on the tabletop?

Given how blue she is, there's clearly something to do with luck there, and her skill with a spanner would be useful for aiding vehicles.

Mr Squig, her drone, would be good for any attack, as he can zip around and has some (horribly inaccurate) dakka. Plus, if all else fails he can just crash into people with his spikes.

Yeah, it was also shit. The only thing Black Library has done that's worth reading concerning Orks, is Deff Skwadron. Everything (and I do mean EVERYTHING) else is shit. Orks get used more often than not as the 'Go-To Punching Bag Villain'. Stories they're in usually read like -generic bad-guy villain race- renamed to Orks.

QUESTION: Would the fact she is a Tau mean she acts like a moralfag even among the Orks?
>>
>>20114859
There is a short in fear the alien about an ork from his perspective which is readable but sadly they are largely ignored otherwise.

There is mention of orks who don't act like /b/ tards but they are rare and generally stomped by orks that do because they have bigger bands behind them

GW does keep an open policy on their canon though and they do say everything is canon so that their fans can do retarded things like this if we want.

I don't think it would act negatively towards it, I think it just sort of wouldn't be there. So she woudn't add to it, but she wouldn't get rid of it either.

The political behaviour of the Tau is largely dominated by the Ethereals and Water Caste.

They do have tech that shouldn't work aside from them believing it should work because they still do have the gestalt psychic field that makes things work better if enough orks believe in it.

>They do have tech that shouldn't work aside from them believing it should work because they still do have the gestalt psychic field that makes things work better if enough orks believe in it.

No. All their tech works. It's just shoddily built and ill-maintained. The psychic field is not wonder make-believe Force, it's WD-40. It keeps their tech working despite horrific levels of abuse, and otherwise unwieldiness or poor maintenance. All their technology is usable outside their race by other species. It's just more prone to jamming, or misfire.

>After all red ones do go fasta for orks and there is no rational reason for that since they have mention in the codec that two identical vehicles will have different speeds if one is painted red and the other isn't.

The Red Wunz go faster doesn't mean a Trukk with no engine will run. It also doesn't mean a trukk with a cardboard cut-out of an engine will run. It means an otherwise working trukk painted red will go *a little* bit faster. It's a couple points of increase in horsepower. And is also explained (in your same source, btw) that this could be instinctual of the Orks building the vehicle or working on it that if it is red, then it should be upgraded or made to be faster.

The only time Ork tech is ever described as 'having no logical reason for working' in canon fluff, was when a tech-priest looked at it. And we're talking the same order who doesn't understand how Tau tech, or Eldar Tech could possibly work, due to the lack of purity seals, proper prayers, no blessing from the Omnisiah, etc. In short, it's like the Catholic Church saying "iPhones work from the power of belief only", simply because their God didnt tell them how to make it.

Let's not make her a Mary Sue. She doesn't need to be as overpowered as Xeno.
She already has a squig in a drone named "Mr Squig" when Xeno had a scarab that used to be a drone called "Mr Drone". That, and their basic concept, are enough similitudes.
>>
>>20115230
the red ones dont go faster because they are red,
they are red because they go faster.
>>
>>20115308
Except the red ones rule states there is no difference between a red and non red vehicle just the orks make it work better.

It isn't taken to the retarded extremes that tg likes to joke about but they do influence things whether it is because the field pushes things to work better, influences the orks to work harder or plain just makes them luckier.

The 40k setting is one where belief has visible effects. The chaos gods can do things because of the belief they get from their various means lets them do impossible shit, the faith of the sororitas combined with whatever latent psyker ability all humans have let them perform their acts of faith

Just about nothing in 40k follows real rules or makes any sense, orks least of all and that is and has always been a large part of the setting

Like it or not your argument has less grounding in the setting than mine.

>in many cases the only reason it works at all is because of the Orks' minor psychic powers. This means that if enough Orks think it will work, it usually will. Many a Techmarine has opened an Ork slugga to find it to just be a box with bolts and bits of metal in it.

Yeah, Orkz just kind of make shit up and it works because they are magic, green soccer hooligans. Stop pretending they don't.

And you.. Go be a faggot somewhere else. You're being so fucking stupid that its embarrassing.

warhammer 40k wiki is made by people like you who barely read the fluff. Their article on the rainbow warriors is pure /tg/ fanfluff, for example.

Regardless, there is indeed that one example in which a guardsman tried to use a shoota, and it simply fell apart as he pressed the trigger.

Which means that, yes, sometimes, ork tech just doesn't work.

Possibly. Bosses get bigger the more boys they are the boss of - so at least some of orkish physical capability is based on either self-belief or the belief of other orks. Since all orks believe they are the greatest thing to ever krump a git, I'd say having boys that believe in you is one of the key factors

orks growing when they're numerous is not fueled by the belief in that fact. It's simply that the ork metabolism is naturally fueled by the energy of the WAAAGH. It even works on samples of ork cells.

It's as good a source as any, really.
Warhammer apparently has lots of different authors, all of whom ignore and contradict each other entirely, making up new facts and rules that don't make any sense in context to the other fluff, that didn't make much sense either.

I imagine that trying to figure out what is truly cannon and what it actually means is a lot like arguing interpretations of the bible. Inevitably, someone is going to start claiming that one part doesn't count, but another does, and someone is going to disagree and says that one part totally does count..

Jesus fuck you idiot, there's not even a [citation] for that! It's like you happily believe what's on a wiki when there's no source provided.

If you opened an AK-47 and found a jumble of wires, bolts, and multiple firing pins AROUND working components, you'd also probably be butt-frustrated enough to toss it out and say "Hurr it don't work unless by belief!" Make it doubly so if technology is religious dogma to you, and anything made by non-human hands is confusing and declared to not work.

No it's not. It's not even made by the right fans. If you want real Ork fluff, and debunking of the misconceptions, go read the fucking older codices and check out The-Waaagh's forums. Don't go to a fan-site, written mostly by people pulling shit out of their ass based upon the crack-pot fucking theories they read on /tg/ (over and over again).

Once she proved her worth, they didn't much care either way because, hey, more dakka for less work.

dude, you really need to get laid or something. You have a lot of anger.
>>
>>20115495
That analogy is.. really bad.

The example states a techmarine, as in someone who should know how a basic projectile shooting weapon could reasonably be constructed. He opens an Ork shoota and finds a box with bolts in it in nothing else. No spring, no firing pin, no controlled explosive propellant.

Not the same thing as someone who has no idea what they're doing tearing open a device they don't understand.

But, in either case, fan-made wiki, so whatever.
>>
>>20115538
Exactly.

You think they'll just kill one of their best mechanics purely because they eventually she realises she's not a gretchin? Course not.

>>20115468
...so they grow based on psychic energy. Which is belief.
If it's unfocused, why do only the bosses grow? Shouldn't every greenskin be huge in a Waagh if proximity to other orks is all it took?
>>
>>20115560
>The example states a techmarine, as in someone who should know how a basic projectile shooting weapon could reasonably be constructed.

But they don't. They treat technology as a fucking religion. They don't make 'new' tech, they use STCs entirely and refuse to adapt or make changes. In 10,000 years since the herey, they have barely invented a few things to set themselves slightly apart from the renegade legions of the Horus Heresy. And you honestly think these religious nutjobs seriously know how tech built by other races are supposed to work!? Eldar tech is purely psychic. As in 100% so, built from wraithbone. They don't even acknowledge it as being possible. And they don't even consider Tau tech on their level or possibly working by anything other than 'xenos witchcraft' .
>>
>Blue thread devolves into Ork tech argument.
Take it to the Ork thread already, shit.
>>
>>20115623
I always thought that they got bigger and stronger with every fight they've been in. Since Orks probably don't live very long in their extremely violent life style, it isn't likely that they get very big. But I suppose one exceptional ork in a while might get big enough to challenge to become a warboss.

But we're talking about ORKZ.
They aren't revolutionary inventors who create inconceivably complex technology, for fuck's sake. These are big, dumb, angry space barbarians who use slabs of metal with handles on them that they call "choppas"

Any of the other races in the 40k universe could probably figure out the basic mechanisms for Ork weaponry, but would likely find a lot of it useless because of the minor psychic abilities that hold certain parts together.
>>
>>20115627

Nah, now you're talking bullshit. By the time you reach Magos, you know what you are doing, and are in a position to make new tech. Before that? Yeah, you are not being taught why stuff works, but the higher you get up in the hierarchy, the more you actually know about the tech. The religious trappings are a form of information control, because in 40k, where you can accidentally summon a daemon by putting together an innovative new circuitboard design which could improve the efficiency of a Lasgun power pack by 6%, you do not want the unproven dicking about making new things.

The Mechanicus works on new things all the time. They just do so SLOWLY and with great care before any kind of widespread dissemination. And they lose other stuff at the same time, which doesn't help.

Admittedly, "Box of disconnected bolts" dude is talking crap too.

>>20115623
All orks do grow.
But the bigger ones stomp the littler ones and so they grow quicker, then they eventually get beaten by someone who is then the boss and their either die or they stop growing for a time.

>They aren't revolutionary inventors who create inconceivably complex technology, for fuck's sake.

Yes they are. They build Lifta-Droppas, and Shokk Attack Guns, and employ man-packed Force Fields that cover a wider area than any kind of man-packed force-field created by another race. If you go even further back into the era of Rogue Trader, they also build fucking Force-Field Generators AS A WEAPON to encase enemies in and have their weapons reflect back and kill themselves with (also known as "Bubble Chukkas"). For fuck's sake we're talking about the same race that will build a rocket loaded with a powerful (but unstable) Force Field Generator and launch it into the midst of an enemy army to send out force field waves and grind opponents into the ground, or at least scatter them and cause disorder. They call these missiles "Pulsa Rokkits".

Animu restyled orks is one thing, but I just wouldn't want to see an anime full of ORIGINAL CHARACTER DO NOT STEAL orks. I can't see it ever looking all that great. Hell, even the anime styled Sisters just look completely off to me.

But that's just me and I respect your differing opinions.

The Earth Caste's Rail Rifles used to have 'Gets Hot!' when used with Target Locks, though it was because feedback could fry the shooter's brain, rather than the gun actually overheating.

The only thing the Earth Caste engineers cared about when a Firewarrior fried his brains on the testing grounds was that they disappointed the Etherial. The Firewarrior? Fuck 'em.
>>
>>20115902
thats entirely made up
>>
>>20115959
Nope. The White Dwarf's prototype Railrifle Pathfinders did actually get Get Hot if you used their Target Locks, but the Codex version removed that (probably because nobody wanted to buy wannabe sniper rifles that Get Hot).

The Fire Caste Shas'ui overseeing the test got might pissed at the Earth Caste engineer though, until the Etherial calmed him down. Regardless, the engineer was more conscerned about the Etherial's disappointment than the dead Firewarrior.
