Howdy, /tg/! Slim here with good news and bad news. The good news is, I finally got to play a rousing game of Brikwars with a friend, and as such enjoyed a legitimate tactical engagement with fun and fudge rolls all around! The bad news is, I didn't take very many pictures. But I got enough to bring to you and share! So gather 'round and take a gander at everyone's favorite LEGO-centric wargame. Hope you enjoy!
Before we begin, as always;>What is Brikwars?Brikwars is a tabletop wargame using LEGO and other construction toys. You can find the rules, forums, and other such fun at brikwars.com/index. Because I'm rules-averse, I run a cut-down homebrew based on the Quikwars rules, but the ultimate goal is to have fun.Our battle setup; the Alien Anarchists (green team) are laying siege to the BLU Corporation's science facility to rescue their leader. They will win if they can topple the Science Tower at the back of the base, while BLU Corporate Security (blue team) wins if they repel the invaders. At the front, some chest-high walls, a derelict building and a Force Field are in place to slow the invaders' advance. The Blue team also has high ground for their ranged units, giving their gunners extra attack range and protection from melee attacks.
The Green Team, lined up and ready to attack. Their army composition, not including heroes;>1 Chariot Catapult, pulled by 2 Thrasher Warbeasts>1 Mega Catapult, pulled by Headclinger Warbeast>1 Wagon Catapult, pulled by 1 Brainuloid Warbeast>1 Tentacle Warbeast>1 Giant Slurg>7 Slurglings>5 Alien Infantry>2 Alien Phalanx>1 Jeep with Dart Gunner>1 Jeep with Speargun TurretThe overall theme for this army was "militant hippies", hence the animals, human sympathizers and medieval tech.
A close up, featuring the first hero; ZEEBO THE JANITOR."But Slim", you ask, "Didn't he die in the last battle report? And is that a broom-halberd?" The answer to both of these questions is "yes". The nice thing about wargames, and Lego, is that death is a suggestion more than a rule.
A second close-up featuring the second hero; LOOKING STONE, COMANCHE COMMANDO, as well as the alien-hull shields of the Phalanx troopers.
>BRIKWARS BATTLE REPORTYES>The bad news is, I didn't take very many picturesNO
The Blue team, prepared for battle. Their army list, again not including heroes;>3 Heavy Gunners>4 Microdroids>1 Micro Exosuit>1 Giant Exosuit>2 Bladetrons>2 Turretrons>1 MAKO JeepThough less numerous, Blue Team's units are primarily Constructs - which, in the current homebrew rewrite, have 2d6 HP and a minimum of 3 extra lives. After spending more points for Autonomy and Pilot Protection, they become exceptionally fearsome, as they can only be killed by utter destruction - unlike normal vehicles, from which the driver can be removed.Warbeasts, in comparison, have 3d6 HP and only 1 life. Which troop type will fare better? We'll find out.
>smaller picturesyes>cleaner battlefieldYes>windmillYES
The Blue Team's heroes; COMMANDER SHEEPDOG, SPACE MARINE drives the MAKO Jeep, and has enough cool points left over to shoot with his other hand. Cool points aren't really a statistic, that was a figure of speech. Riding daredevil style is CORPORATE NINJABOT, who radiates swag in his fine designer suit.(brief delay; image hiccup?)
And then there's this fucker. There is, in fact, a pilot in there if you look closely.
Holy shit, fucking mechs and everything.
In the Science Tower, a mad professor cackles as his project nears completion - cracking the long-lost code to the alien's energy source! It doesn't really matter, as he'll be up here playing with his monitors all battle.
>>19999738is that... a Lego Dr.Insano?
Meanwhile, inside the compound, Officer Matsumoto enjoys his day off... by making prisoners dig at gunpoint."Firs' meesa hafta talk all blacky-like, now meesa in jail? Das' racist!""Sirence, criminerr scum!"Gungans: Not even once.
>>19999722That looks *amazing.*
>SLIM's BrikWars reportYessss...
Enough dicking around. Onto the (painfully abbreviated) battle!ALIENS TURN 1: The Anarchist forces edge their chariots and vehicles up, contending with the obstructions. The Catapult and Zeebo (with 3d6 attacks, due to being huge and spending a Hero roll respectively) fail to batter down the Force Field.CORP-SEC TURN 1: One of the Bladetrons edges up, much to his detriment...
>>19999787Lego Quest and Riddle of Steel AT THE SAME TIME? And an encroaching 20000000 get?Today is like the best Sunday all year!
>>19999593>those animalsMy God.>>19999806Oh, uh, I wasn't planning on running a game tonight. I'm just in here tripfaggidy-doo-ding.
...as he is soon beset upon.ALIENS TURN 2: After another failed Catapult shot, Zeebo manages to cleave through the Force Field and troops move forward in earnest. Looking Stone, riding atop the Slurg, finds a gap on the far side of the chest-high wall and charges forward to attack the Bladetron! It loses 1 of its 3 lives to a vicious attack, and a second to micro-catapult fire.CORP-SEC TURN 2: Disgusted by this flagrant display of competence, Ninjabot charges forward and uses a Hero Roll to try and kill two Warbeasts at once. He fails, and is rather disappointed.(Though I gave my opponent opportunities to reposition their units at the start, they chose to engage with the melee units first, and reluctantly - a poor tactical choice, but fairly common for first-time players.)
>>19999650I'm jealous of all those big trans-blue panels.
TURN 3Ninjabot and the Bladetron are slain by Warbeasts; Commander Sheepdog avenges them by popping a cap in the Wagon's driver. He is repaid in turn by Slurglings chewing on his wheels en masse, using their Combine attacks to match the damage of better-armed troops. Zeebo uses his turn to release the wagon's Brainuloid, and hitch his own beast to the wagon.Offscreen, Looking Stone takes high ground, while a Bladetron advances.
>>19999894I have only two of them, in my measly LEGO collection. They sure look a lot bigger in that photo.
>>19999894Those were the crown jewel of the small piece of my old collection I managed to snag. I intend to reclaim the rest come Christmas... and then, there will be a reckoning.TURN 4The Giant Slurg and Looking Stone (offscreen) get perforated by the Heavy Gunners' Plasma Ventilators. It was horrible. Zeebo (also offscreen, again, sorry for the pictures) dashes over to try to use Alien Goo Magic to revive him. He fails, but as the roll is a dead tie, he is not revived as a zombie.Commander Sheepdog uses a Hero Roll to scoop up the slain Ninjabot and stunt-drive his damaged car over the fortress' walls to the repair bay. The Giant Exosuit steps in, deciding it has had enough of this shit. A Bladetron slays a Warbeast. One extra rule in this battle was the ability for units to spend an attack to clear rubble, paving the way for movement. The Warbeasts make use of this frequently, and you may notice parts appearing to vanish.
>>19999937I only have the two that came with this set.
>>20000000My penis just became turgid with such force that it rocketed off, breaking the sound barrier.
>>20000000Oops.
>>20000000Welp.
>>20000000Incoming shitstorm. Nice trans-blue. I love translucent lego pieces.>translucent != transparent.
>>20000000>>20000000>>20000000Hell yeah Lego Quest. All my LEGOs are from when I was six, so they're nearly two decades old. I don't know where I got any of them, except for some spring-loaded car-like things that Burger King ran for kids' meals toys one time.
TURN 5oh godoh god what is happeningi don't evenwhyOffscreen, much sparring occurs with no real kill-scoring. The Catapult begins to make attacks against the fortress' main gate, but doesn't break it yet.
>>19999722>jango fett piloting a mech
>>20000041goodnight sweet mech
>>20000000goddammit the entire thread's gonna get derailed now. Feh.CONTINUING THE DAMN REPORT.TURN 6The Micro Exosuit jumps down from the rooftop, securing his de-suited comrade's exit as they duck into the gate. The Infantry squad mans the tower and guns down two of the three Heavy Gunners before abandoning their high ground.Zeebo's second revival attempt fails, melting Looking Stone's body. He sighs, and leads his army on.The warbeast and Bladetron in the bottom of the image continued their sparring for the entire game.
>>20000000This pleases me.
>>20000082Yeahhhh... sorry about that, SLIM.On the plus side, more people reading your thread!
>>20000000
TURN 7The gate is shattered at last! Gunfire flies everywhere, including a fatal shot to Zeebo. Goodnight, sweet janitor. The Speargun Car, after slaying the last Heavy Gunner, is rolled up to the wall and used as an impromptu siege ladder, while the Warbeasts charge in through the freshly-opened gate, rending the Micro Exosuit.Ninjabot attempted to do a flip-attack off the roof following his repair, and promptly faceplanted. The Phalanx made short work of him thereafter.
>>20000103On the minus side, he's about out of pictures.LQ, your challenge, should you accept it: Factor the number 20,000,000 into your next quest session.
>>20000123>LQ, your challenge, should you accept it: Factor the number 20,000,000 into your next quest session.Answer: The Boy-Emperor of the great city has this many gems in his treasure vault. Do you have enough shreep to carry it all away?
>>20000103It's okay. Unavoidable consequence of 4chan, I suppose.TURN 8The Warbeasts waste a turn trying to destroy the roof balcony's supports, chasing one mech pilot to the roof and knocking another back as a jeep is eaten. Two Catapult operators are slain, but the last hurls a Headclinger onto a Mech pilot. He'll be a convert at the start of the next turn, leaving Commander Sheepdog time enough to William Tell it off his head. The siege-ladder team floods over the wall, stealing weapons and deposing Microdroids. All seems lost for the Blue Team...
enjoy
TURN 9 oh god whatAfter a brief bit of more sparring, the Warbeasts make their way to the tender, juicy tower and - despite its 4d6 HP - topple it, ending the mission in an Alien victory. The rest of the base explodes, obviously, but not before the Alien Leader is rescued. Slightly anticlimactic, but this was a two-hour battle, so it felt like a pretty good place to stop. Smashing the base was fun.
>>20000151>shreepOfficially my favorite make-believe animal.
>>20000207What are shreep? Some kind of razor sheep?
The survivors and their prisoners.I'm sorry this Report was shorter, but rest assured the game was a blast! It was so refreshing to have an actual opponent instead of pretending to have Multiple Personality Disorder. It was also nice to have one fight where Matsumoto didn't roll insanely and kirr erryone, but he did shoot the escaping Gungan in the back. JUSTICE.I hope you've enjoyed this brief report, and the momentous GET. Have a wonderful Sunday evening, and heaven help your hangovers tommorrow. Take care!
A few more pictures as long as I have them... The Micro Exosuit, which was strangely absent from the other photos.
And an overhead shot of the base. I just kinda threw random crap in there, expecting the Blue team to use the workers as emergency backup, but the insta-gib on the tower nixed that.
>>20000000And LEGO was the Get, and all was good.
>>20000229They're...well...shreep.

>>20000000I don't know how this board reacts to gets, but if you really didn't want it to ruin the thread, you could have deleted and reposted.sick get anyway, dude
>>20000299>I don't know how this board reacts to gets, but if you really didn't want it to ruin the thread, you could have deleted and reposted.Who the heck does that? That's retarded. That's like winning $50,000 and saying "no thanks, I have enough money already" as your wife and children cry and starve in the background, and then telling the media to sod off when they come to tell your tale and give you cash for interviews.
>>20000188>>20000231>>20000246A rousing romp, SLIM. I love these threads! I am also incredibly jealous of your collection. Much more impressive than mine.
>>20000299Yeah, but who hands a LEGO GET to babyfurs or cis-trolls.>>20000296Their utility is only outstripped by their stupidity.
>>20000313As someone who recently received a get, I can verify that this is exactly what happens.
>>20000316I feign to say that you use yours better. But then, I have always been a fan of the "Tony Stark" approach - I work in a cave with a box of scraps. Even if it's a big damn box. Also, I felt this reaction image needed to be made.
>>20000299Well there were less than ten posts of people gobbing over it before they politely stopped to let slim continue.
>>20000298I'm not sure I made it right, but thanks!
>>20000298This isn't quite the design I used, now that I check the bin of LEGOs containing them. But it's close enough. Works for civilians.
>>20000518Haha. No, the pieces are (mostly) bottom to top. Have the first hinge have concave away from the slope, the other reverse, then arms, then headlight bricks (facing the slope, again). On the headlight bricks, place one pair of the 1x1 rounds on the front, the rest atop, then the antenna. (It is recommended that the 1x1 rounds and antennae be the same translucent color, but not strictly necessary)
This is the first time I've seen one of these threads but after reading it I want to run a game of Brikwars at a convention.
You can use other things than the headlight bricks for the [nospoilersontg]urnqf[/spoilersontg!?], such as a 2x1 with some printed pattern. (hmm, this library says "1x2 with grille pattern". Why would you have the larger dimension SECOND?)
>>20000590This can't be right...
>>20000694Because it goes height x width. So a 2x1 is oriented two high one wide, whereas the printed panels and grilles are typically oriented one high two wide. So 1x2.
>>20000721Success!(I think)
>>20000298>>20000518That's a...a...code? A LEGO build code?Weird.
>>20000747>That's a...a...code? A LEGO build code?>3039x1This is part #3039.
>>20000774I hadn't noticed my pieces being numbered, though. There must be a large catalog online of Lego pieces.
>>20000735Except I mean length and width, where the unstated height is "1". Height goes third on that site.>>20000736Yeah, that. Might wanna slip in a 1x2x1/3 atop the headlights just to force alignment better. But, robot complete with force-antennae, waist, knee, and articulated arms.
>>20000781Most parts are stamped with a number, but they're very small.http://www.peeron.com/inv/parts/3039Peeron is one of the best sites for Lego part catalogs.
>>20000781There seem to be like five. I was using Peeron.
The combat head was 4596 under 3839 (both facing forward)Attaching translucent cones1x1 and/or dishes(inverted, 4740, 3960) or 1x1rounds for energy fire was, of course, the norm.>Most parts are stamped with a number, but they're very small. My 3960s seem to be marked 2-03.
>>20000928I guess I should have said "most of the larger parts", since to my knowledge none of the 1x1 pieces have stamped numbers.
>>200010493960s are 4x4 inverted dish. Loads of space to stamp on.
